You will be challenged with identifying innovative ideas and proof of concept to deliver against the existing and future needs of our customers. \n\nResponsibilities \n\n Serving as a core member of an agile team that drives user story analysis and elaboration, designs and develops software applications, and builds automation tools for testing. \n Owning all technical aspects of software development for assigned applications; Performing hands-on architecture, design, and development of systems \n Performing hands-on software and strategy development, typically spending about 50% of time actually writing code, , conducting code reviews and testing in ongoing sprints, doing proof of concepts \n Driving consistent development practices - tools and common components; Developing deep understanding of tie-ins with other systems and platforms within the supported domains \n Working with technical product managers contributing to blueprints, and assisting with annual planning of feature sets \n Identifying exciting opportunities for adopting new technology to solve existing needs and predicting future challenges \n Mentoring other Software Engineers, may have management responsibilities over 2-3 Software Engineers \n Manage your own time, and work well both independently and as part of a team. \n Work closely with product managers, back-end and other front-end engineers to implement versatile solutions to tricky web development problems \n Quickly generate and updating HTML prototypes from UI concepts for testing and team feedback \n Finalizing HTML prototypes into Web Applications by integrating with back-end services and functionality \n Embrace emerging standards while promoting best practices in order to push the limits of what a browser can do. \n\nQualifications\nThis high energy Senior Software Engineer: \n 6+ years of software development experience and preferably a BS or MS degree in computer science, computer engineering, or other technical discipline \n Demonstrated experience in Agile development, application design, software development, and testing \n Thorough understanding of XML, JSON, Web Service technologies, and data structure fundamentals \n Experience with Java applications design and development in an Enterprise setting using J2EE, Spring, SQL DBMSs desired \n Expertise in Objected Oriented Analysis and Design across a variety of platforms \n A proven hunger to learn new technologies and translate them into working software \n Ability to effectively communicate to internal and external business partners on solution design \n Experience with HTML/XHTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Software Version Control Systems (such as svn, git) required \n Experience with JavaScript Libraries (such as jQuery, GWT, Dojo, AngularJS), Social Media (Twitter, Facebook, Google+) APIs, Search Engine Optimization, Web Page Optimization strategies desired \n Experience with adaptive and responsive techniques \n Internationalization (I18N) and Localization (L10N) experience is a plus \n Experience with a broad range of software languages and payments technologies is a plus \n\n\nAmerican Express is an equal opportunity employer and makes employment decisions without regard to race, color religion, sex, gender identity, national origin, sexual orientation, protected veteran status, disability status, or any other status protected by law.
