As VP of Product, you’ll report directly to our CEO and work closely with other members of our Leadership Team. You will create a vision of what our next-generation products will look like, build a world-class product team and develop and execute on a multi-year product roadmap. The products you conceive and create will produce incredible (measurable) results and you’ll be able to see first-hand the impact you have on our students’ lives.

Front Row is a small, lean, early stage (series A), tight-knit education technology company of about 15 people that has a history of hiring folks who are able to get a lot done with few resources. In just a few years we went from one classroom to being used in 30% of US schools by over 3 million students. Our mission is important to us, and we're looking to hire competent, professional and driven self-starters to join our team.

We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer, responsible for designing and developing applications and distributed systems for the Front Row ecosystem in Haskell, Flow, ReactJS, PostgreSQL, Ansible and many others. The role would involve bringing best practices to Front Row engineering, mentoring junior developers, and the option to move into a Tech Lead position (if you’re interested).

We're one of the few companies in the world built on a purely functional stack and, as an engineer here, you will get to work on your deliverable end-to-end, from the UX to the deployment logic. We’re also a major steward of the Haskell open source community, shaping the direction of the language and the up-and-coming ecosystem for years to come.

OpenCraft is looking for an Executive Assistant. We are a remote company, a team of ten developers working remotely from Europe, North America, Asia and Australia - so you would be able to work remotely from where you want, as long as you have a good internet connexion. : ) As an Executive Assistant you would work directly with the CEO, the CTO, and other team members to assist in the day to day management process and handling of clients.
This is a long-term position, preferably full time, but part time would also be considered.

We are an open source development studio, specialized in online courses (MOOC) and working on the free software project Open edX, used by many universities and companies to run online courses. See edx.org, lagunita.stanford.edu or fun-mooc.fr for examples of Open edX instances.

We are proud of producing quality work which actually matters - without the project, many wouldn’t be able to access the education materials MOOC freely provide. We also like to be part of a movement imagining the future of education. And because we work on open source projects, we don’t just work for our clients, but also for the project’s community or students and teachers, as a whole.

You would arrive at a critical moment, as we scale up to handle a strong growth. Our clients list/references include several Harvard schools, edX themselves, the French government, NGOs, McKinsey, and many universities and companies creating courses with it.

Responsibilities:

  • Writing, editing and management of materials such as communications, presentations, quotes, reports - including deciding on or recommending content.
  • Client and community relations, research and outreach
  • Task tracking and follow-ups
  • Travel arrangements, calendar management, meeting coordination and note taking
  • Invoice management and reconciliation
  • Ad hoc duties as assigned

    Skills & Requirements

    Basic requirements:
  • “Can do” attitude, affinity with learning and ability to sort out any situation
  • Strong organizational and task management skills
  • Strong empathy and expert social skills
  • Ability to work both independently, as well as to play a leadership role in building a cohesive team
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Very detail oriented and highly accountable
  • Administrative experience
  • Proficiency with computers - even geeky tools don’t scare you

Optional requirements (would be nice, but not mandatory):

  • Background in the education or academic sectors
  • Fluent in German or French
  • Experience with contributing to free software projects, and communicating within a free software community (though not necessarily in technical roles - contributing articles on Wikipedia, or organizing events count, too!)

Wonder (askwonder.com) is hiring individuals with exceptional online research skills to join our community of paid researchers. Wonder is a personal research service for entrepreneurs and business professionals -- our clients post questions about various topics in economics, business, technology, product recommendations and more. Your job is to efficiently track down the highest quality resources across the Web and explain the results in a personable, human way.

You can work whenever you want, as often as you want, and from wherever you want. You also have complete choice over which questions to answer -- pick the ones that are interesting to you.

Here are some example questions our clients ask us:

  • Who is currently deeply pursuing the consumer internet of things and who is primed to lead Industrial Revolution 4.0?
  • What impact will self-driving car technology have on global economies?
  • How fragmented (or consolidated) are companies in the used OEM auto parts industry?
  • What did the French colonial troops do when they were sent to China during the Boxer Rebellion - were they engaged in combat? Did they serve as a peacekeeping force?

Questions get posted to a central dashboard, from which you can choose to claim whichever seem most interesting to you. For each search you claim, you'll be tasked with finding 5+ links to high-quality sources, and writing a rich summary directly answering the user’s query while adding any insights you gleaned along the way.

    PAYMENT
At Wonder you work on your own schedule. To give you the most flexibility, we pay per research task you complete. The price of each research task depends on the difficulty of the question, but you'll always know how much each question is worth in advance and you have full discretion over which questions you work on. Active researches can earn $2,000 or more per month. Or work casually in your spare time -- once a week or throughout the day.

    PERKS
  • Work from anywhere
  • Research in your free time and as often as you'd like
  • Build up a certified portfolio of high-level research and analysis you can share anywhere
  • Learn about new industries, fields, and research methods
  • Work with a global community of researchers
  • Join a high growth startup and build with us from the ground up

    QUALIFICATIONS
The best researchers will have a wide breadth of knowledge and specific expertise in several subjects, with an equal penchant for diving into uncharted territory and swiftly becoming an authority. Because many of our users depend on hard data to make decisions, quantitative proficiency is preferred. You not only know how to extract and validate hard stats, but can calculate some of your own on the fly if need be. Previous experience working in a research-intensive role is a definite plus, though not required. Most of all, our researchers are all problem solvers with a sense of imagination that helps them dig deep and find meaningful intelligence. Some characteristics we’re looking for:
  • A discerning eye for quality content
  • Strong general knowledge paired with several areas of expertise
  • Command of the English language and strong/grammatical writing a must
  • Ability to create lean, high-level, often quantitative summaries directly answering users’ questions
  • Critical analysis, logical reasoning skills
  • Keen attention to details
  • Understanding of basic economics (knowledge of markets a huge plus)
  • Bonus: those with a narrow, deep understanding of a STEM field/prior study in a technical subject are also encouraged to apply

Overview
Exploration Summer Programs is seeking creative and experienced educators to serve as Pre-Season Curriculum Advisors (PCAs) during the winter and spring for our summer enrichment courses. Over the course of a six-week development cycle, PCAs communicate with course instructors via phone and email to help them transform their ideas into creative lesson plans for a three-week enrichment course that will be taught during the summer. Each summer, Exploration offers more than 150 unique courses and more than 90 unique workshops in a wide array of academic disciplines. (See our website, www.explo.org, for a sample of the kinds of courses we offer.) These enrichment courses are hands-on, not-for-
credit, and ungraded. They are taught by summer instructors who are passionate about the fields in which they are teaching, but who are primarily undergraduate and graduate students with little or no teaching experience. The primary responsibility of the PCA is to mentor these young teachers in the development of student-centered, activity-based curriculum that will encourage our summer students to challenge themselves, discover the world of people and ideas, and experience the joy of learning.
Position Details
A brief online training for PCAs takes place in early winter. Curriculum advising takes place between January and May 15. Most PCAs advise between one and six courses. PCAs coordinate an advising schedule with instructors, such that the advising process for a single course or workshop is completed in a six-week period (of your choosing).

Monetary Compensation + Graduate Credit
PCAs may elect to receive either monetary compensation or graduate credit (or a mixture of the two) for their work as PCAs. PCAs are compensated $200 per full-course and $100 per workshop advised to completion. Exploration is a Professional Development Provider and, as such, can award recertification points for this work.

Application Process
Please apply online at http://www.explo.org/faculty/pre_season_advisors. For questions, please contact Barb Trainor, Director of Curriculum and Instruction at btrainor@explo.org.

About Exploration
Exploration Summer Programs is an international leader in summer academic enrichment. Each year, Exploration runs programs for more than 3000 boarding and day students who hail from more than 40 states and countries. The Program was founded in 1977. Explo at Wheaton enrolls rising 4th through 7th graders at Wheaton College in Norton, MA. Explo at Wellesley enrolls rising 8th and 9th graders at Wellesley College. Explo at Yale enrolls rising 10th through 12th graders at Yale University. Students attend either one or two three-week sessions and enroll in academic enrichment courses (and one or two workshops) per session. Thirty-five people work 10.5 months a year in Exploration’s main office located in Norwood, MA. During the summer, the staff/faculty increases to more than 350 and operations move to the summer sites.
Additional Summer Curriculum Opportunities
In addition to hiring PCAs, Exploration also hires several Curriculum Advisors (CAs) who live and work on the campuses of our Programs during the summer. Summer CAs help coach new teachers in the development of their teaching skills through formal and informal observations, oral and written feedback, goal-setting, reflection, and one-on-one problem-solving sessions. Additional information and the online application is available at http://www.explo.org/faculty/curriculum_advisors.

  • You are familiar with the IWT philosophy and share a similar approach to online business and copywriting.
  • You are a great teacher and communicator. You are a master at breaking down complex topics into simple concepts, and can communicate them in a way that beginners can understand.

Key Responsibilities

Security and DevOps Ninja in Training

If you need to be making an impact instead of just keeping the lights on, if you thrive on being constantly challenged, and if you soak up tech knowledge and certifications like a sponge, then read on…

At Cloud Quarterback we provide devops and security services and the security part of the business is expanding. As part of the company growth, we need someone who in the next year can do this:

  • Quickly learn and adapt to client systems and processes

  • Provide backend / 2nd level application and devops support to clients across the country

  • Write slick back end and automation code

  • Make servers and applications dance using configuration management and automation tools

  • Provide a friendly, outstanding client experience

  • Interface directly with clients in a co-operative and constructive way

  • Solve problems every day

  • Get involved in implementing security controls

  • Get involved in writing technical and security policy documents

  • Contribute ideas and feedback on new products and services

  • Be certified to at least one industry security certification

  • Implement technical solutions

While you could be anyone, we realistically need someone with a systems or programming / devops background who has a keen interest in all things relating to security and privacy. You’ll have to be able to do a few of those things day one, but not all of them. As an example this might be you:

  • Bachelor's degree

  • Proven success in a client facing role such as sales, support, or customer service experience

  • Previously described as something similar to a “Tech Swiss Army Knife” by awestruck co-workers or friends

  • Excellent Google-Fu

  • Passion for security

  • You could be a bit of an introvert but still like to be sociable, you're definitely not a misanthrope, and you're positive and friendly by default.

  • You have the ability to work on projects with others and complete tasks solo when required

  • You like learning and getting things done way more than you like reading Reddit or watching cats dance

  • Highly flexible and adaptable

  • Comfortable with thinking laterally and prefer to either jump right in or read the barest amount of documentation to get started.

  • Working in consulting means chaos, you can adapt, respond, and negotiate with everyone - clients and coworkers alike - with a clear head

  • You probably know at least one programming or scripting language really well (eg. Powershell / Ruby / Python)

  • You wonder why most programmers can’t understand systems and why so many sysadmins can’t code

  • You’re operating system agnostic

We’re 100% remote workers and catch up in person twice a year (once at BlackHat), and encourage access to a local co-working environment in order to maximize your success. We also offer health insurance and retirement savings

You can be anywhere as long as you’re in the USA, although it would be preferable if you were on the West Coast or able to work a similar timezone to PST.

The Giant Hairy Problem You’ll Be Solving

We've got a pretty big vision for what we want to accomplish. We're building multiple premium brands, have an audience of millions of people, and what to push the quality of our design for every touch point with our users. Our work should set the benchmark for everyone else.

We're building a mission-based team with designers, engineers, and marketers all working together to a make this vision a reality. It's a small, tight-knit team that moves fast and has a lot of autonomy to make an impact. We've got an opening for a designer on this team. That’s where you come in.

You’re not just another body that makes things “pretty”. We need a much larger commitment from you. You’ll be responsible for the UX of the Growth team. For every campaign, app, and test, you’ll push to give our users a world-class experience that delights them at every step. The hard part? We need to delight users while driving measurable growth across the business. You'll find the sweet-spot between giving people an amazing experience while driving measurable growth.

And this is your giant hairy problem. How do we meet the goals of the business while over-delivering on value to our users? You’ll tackle this head-on and find the perfect blend between the two. You’ll push the limits of your design craft to meet the needs of our users and the business.

You’ll Learn More In 3 Months Than You Did All Of Last Year

We’re not here to follow mediocre best practices. We want to deeply understand what drives a business forward. Which variables matter? How do we persuade people to take action? Which levers and projects drive the most value for the business?

We have a simple goal on the Growth team: learn faster than anyone else in the industry. The faster we learn, the faster we grow the company. You'll be in the middle of everything. You'll see how the entire business works and it'll be your ideas that help us make it even more effective. You'll learn exactly how to build a world-class growth machine.

We reach this depth of understanding by operating at an incredibly high tempo. Our iteration and feedback loops happen at a blistering pace. Testing combined with an intense tempo means you’ll learn faster than any of your peers.

You’ll work on projects like:
  • Variants for A/B testing across every step of our funnels.
  • Launching new landing pages for campaigns.
  • Working with our engineers to build light-weight freemium tools for our audience.
  • Improving our student apps to show them the value of living a Rich Life.
  • Building new funnels and signup flows.
  • Other marketing odds and ends (social profiles, PPC ads, email designs, etc).

What We're Looking For:
  • Design skills that drive conversions and actions. This is not a branding team, this is an acquisition team.
  • Can start with just an idea, turn it into a polished design, and handle most of the front-end. We have engineers that can handle the heavy lifting and back-end but the closer you can get your work ready for production, the more projects we'll ship, and the larger your impact will be.
  • This is not an entry-level design position, you'll need to know how to drive projects and hold our team to a high design standard.
  • Growth projects are HIGHLY iterative. Many ideas won’t work. This means you’ll put your heart and soul into projects which will flop on a regular basis. That’s the nature of the work. But you need to be able to tackle the next iteration with as much gusto and passion as you did the first time. The magic doesn’t happen on launch day, it happens in the countless iterations that follow.
  • You should love design but you should love results more.
  • Our team moves at an exceptionally high tempo, you'll be shipping weekly if not daily. You'll need to find that perfect balance between high quality design and getting a project shipped.
  • Comfortable de-scoping to meet deadlines. Short deadlines and a high tempo mean we can't do everything. You'll need to instantly see the most valuable piece of any project, make it as lean as possible, and find a way to get it shipped so we can see if it had any impact.
  • Must be based in the US.
  • This is a 100% remote position, work from anywhere you like.

The Opportunity
At IWT, we take pride in creating some of the best online programs in the world, from Zero to Launch, to Find Your Dream Job, to Earn1K, and many more. And we’re just getting started. As a Product Developer, you will take ideas and transform them into finished products that make a huge impact on thousands of students around the world. You’ll be working with a world-class product development team and will learn more about human psychology in 3 months than you have in your entire career. We’ll teach you proprietary product development techniques that you won’t learn anywhere else. Most importantly, you’ll see first hand how your work helps thousands of people live better, richer lives.

You will own the entire product development lifecycle, from initial research, to content creation, to user experience and seeing it through to product launch. Some of your day to day work will include the following:
Product Ideas
You will collaborate with your product development peers and brainstorm big product ideas to pursue. You’ll be an integral part in deciding which ideas have the potential to impact thousands of students.

Research
You’ll not only be performing market and competitive research, you’ll also talk to our students and learn how we dig deep to discover their deepest hopes, fears and dreams.

Scoping & Positioning
Working closely with the team, you’ll develop a product vision, define what our product is/is not, and work with designers and marketers to create the product name & logo.

Content Creation
Each product will bear the mark of your creativity and dedication. You’ll own the creation of the program including developing course outline, video scripts, presentations, case studies and customer emails that are read by hundreds of thousands of students.

Product Improvement
We are constantly updating our material to make sure we only deliver the best to our students. You will analyze customer feedback and make corresponding product improvement recommendations.

What We're Looking For
Product Development Experience

  • You are an exceptional copywriter. When it comes to copywriting, you’re second to none. You have a proven track record of taking on the appropriate voice and style to write compelling content, scripts and pitch copy. You understand that this is a very writing-intensive role and you are thrilled about it.
  • You have prior and relevant product development experience and know what it takes to bring a product from concept to market. You’re no noob to the product development lifecycle. You LOVE digging deep and are passionate about researching your customers. You have an impressive portfolio demonstrating your expertise, understanding of your customers, and products you’ve brought to life.
  • You have deep experience, interest and knowledge of IWT material. Preference will be given to those who have signed up for several IWT courses and know them inside and out.
Empathetic, Detail-Oriented and Passionate

  • You are highly empathetic. You understand people inside out and know how to get inside a customer’s head.
  • You are obsessed with getting it right. You’re known as the perfectionist and are willing to try something 100 different ways just to get it right.
  • You are a great teacher and communicator. Not only are you a master at breaking down complex topics into simple concepts, and communicate them in a way that beginners can understand, but you also do it in a way that’s 100X more valuable than what’s already out there.
  • You are passionate about online business. You may even have direct experience in online sales and conversion optimization (huge plus!).
This is a full-time, 100% remote position.
If you’re excited about this, we’d love to talk to you. Use the “Apply Now” button below to get in touch with us.

DESCRIPTION
Seeking an experienced Software Engineer to join a fast-growing education startup transforming the way 3+ million K-8 students learn Math and English. This role will report directly to the CTO.

You’ll have an immense impact on our company, product, and culture; a ton of autonomy and responsibility; and equity to match the weight of this role. If you're looking for an opportunity to both grow and do meaningful work, surrounded and supported by like-minded professionals, this is THE place for you.

Our mission is important to us, and we want it to be important to you as well: millions of students learn math using Front Row every month. Our early results show students improve twice as much while using Front Row than their peers who aren’t using the program. Front Row is growing at a rocketship pace, and is projected to make a massive impact on the world of education in the next few years.

In addition to being mission-driven, Front Row is a bastion of engineering best practices and a pioneer in the Functional Programming community: we're one of the very few companies in the world to use Haskell in production at scale, for all of our systems. We're active contributors of the open source community and regular hosts of Haskell meetups around the Bay. If you've ever written Haskell for the web, then you have used tools our engineers wrote. We combine advanced tooling and theory to support a vast range of products with a minimal team. Our competitors are regularly bewildered when they learn that we ship more than they do at 1/10th their size. Even our ops is type-safe.

Remote employees are welcome assuming BOTH of the conditions below can be met:

  • you're located in the continental US timezones
  • you are looking for an Individual Contributor-only position. We need you to be onsite in order to transition to the Dev Lead role

What you will be doing
  • Architect, design and develop new web applications, tools and distributed systems for the Front Row ecosystem in Haskell, Flow, PostgreSQL, Ansible and many others. You will get to work on your deliverable end-to-end, from the UX to the deployment logic.
  • Potential to advance to Dev Lead and oversee the success of your team
  • Mentor and support more junior developers in the organization
  • Create, improve and refine workflows and processes for delivering quality software on time and without incurring debt
  • Work closely with Front Row educators, product managers, customer support representatives and account executives to help the business move fast and efficiently through relentless automation.

As a result, in a world of $10 ebooks and $20 video courses, our students spend thousands of dollars on our courses and continue coming back for more.

If you had a budget, staff, and time to create the best, what kind of products would you create? What would they look like and what kind of results would they produce for the people who use them?

Do you enjoy working on a small team where you can have a significant impact? Are you willing to maintain a legacy .NET software stack in exchange for our open-mindedness on the best technologies to use for new initiatives going forward? Do you do your best work in an environment with sane timelines, a stable roadmap, and business owners who will seek out and appreciate your input? If so, we'd love to hear from you.

We have a smooth-running application built in the .NET framework which runs every aspect of our education business. Our 'Compass Points' web-based data management system connects office staff, tutors, and clients in a paperless environment, handling client intake, communication, billing, testing, and feedback. Instructors have an online center for lesson scheduling, notes, timesheets, and payroll.  We need a seasoned developer who can help to maintain the system and complete essential updates and extensions within the current framework. Our goal is to thoughtfully refactor and modernize this system over time.

We also seek to build out new functionality, including mobile-optimized sites for our instructors and clients as well as integrating and white-labeling tools to continue improving our delivery of web-based tutoring services.  These new initiatives are typically best served with different technology, so we seek someone who enjoys, and has experience with, weighing options and discussing such decisions. Recent modernization efforts include upgrading a smaller .NET application to Express and a pending migration to cloud infrastructure.

A good estimate is 25% of your time would be spent on the legacy .NET platform and 75% on new initiatives. You would be part of a small full-time team on the development side, collaborating regularly with the business owners and leaders of our operations, product/curricula, and marketing teams. We are growing our team and its capabilities at a steady, deliberate pace.

    ----

    REQUIREMENTS

  • A track record of working in, or leading, teams that rapidly ship high quality web-based software that provides great value to users and purchasers
  • Exceptional emotional intelligence and people skills
  • Understanding of Agile-flavored development processes and the balance between discipline and agility
  • Must be extremely organized and meticulous about details, while still being able to focus on the big picture of the product
  • A ton of startup hustle

    ----

    BENEFITS

  • Competitive compensation + benefits (medical, dental, vision)
  • A lot of flexibility: while we all work towards the same goals, you’ll have a lot of autonomy in what you work on; option to work from home up to one day a week.
  • Catered lunch & dinner 4 days a week + snacks on snacks
  • Convenient office in SF right next to the Powell station
  • Awesome monthly team events + smaller get-togethers (board game nights, trivia, etc)

We are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity at our company. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.

DESCRIPTION

Canopy Education Inc. is looking for a product-focused full-stack developer to help engineer the democratization of the college admissions process and higher education attainment.

There aren't many industries left that haven't been significantly disrupted by technology in some way, but you're reading about one right here! You will find many opportunities to apply high-leverage computer science (think machine learning, probabilistic reasoning, etc.) as well as plenty of opportunities for the more human side of the problem, as the current admissions process is a huge source of stress and confusion for students and parents alike. If we execute correctly, your work will impact the entire next generation of college graduates-to-be.

You will join a company whose culture centers around authenticity, excellence, and balance. You'll find that everyone likes to keep things simple and transparent. You'll find everyone to be goal-oriented and hands-off as long as you are a self-starter. And you'll feel right at home if you don't like sitting in front of a computer all day for hours on end.

But for those times we do sit in front of a computer, we are a polyglot functional programming shop, with emphasis on Haskell and Purescript, yet open to almost any high-level functional programming language used in industry. Our infrastructure and non-mission-critical tooling tends to be in whatever works best: sometimes Ruby, sometimes JavaScript, never PHP. We're functional pragmatists, basically, so bring your own.

We have a distributed company culture, so this position can be remote for the right person. You will be provided a setup stipend to help kit your home to your specifications, or you can get a co-working membership on us. Every quarter, we vote on a choice destination in the US and you get a travel stipend to physically gather under the Canopy with the rest of us. Once a year, we vote on a bigger destination (think Maui, Stockholm, Thailand, New Zealand, etc.) and work from there instead for a week or two while enjoying our lives.

----

REQUIREMENTS

You know you are right for this position if:

  • You have at least five years of professional software engineering experience, and at least two years of preference for a high-level programming language that's used in industry, like Haskell, Purescript, Elm, Clojure/Clojurescript, OCaml, Erlang, F#.
  • You are a self-starter and internally motivated, with a strong desire to be part of a successful team that shares your high standards.
  • You have great written communication skills and are comfortable with making big decisions over digital presence (e.g. video chat).
  • You have polyglot experience along several axes (dynamic/static, imperative/functional, lazy/strict, weird/not-weird).
  • ES6 + React ecosystem are bonuses.
  • You are comfortable with PaaS like heroku. Or even BaaS like Firebase. Your preferred db is postgres. You have basic but passable sysadmin skills.
  • You are fluent with git.
  • You instrument before you optimize. You test before you ship. You listen before you conclude. You measure before you cut. Twice.
  • You have good remote-work discipline and can stick to a schedule that we agree to ahead of time. You can have weird hours outside of our daytime core hours—they just have to be predictable and well communicated.
  • You don’t mind going to awesome places (usually warm and sunny) for a week or two every few months. You're ok with a bit of travel hacking to make it all work out.

    ----

    BENEFITS

We offer a competitive salary and a full suite of benefits, some of them unconventional, but awesome for the right person:

  • Medical, dental, vision insurance and 401k
  • Flexible hours with a 4-hour core (5-hour wall-clock) - plan the rest of your workday as you wish, just give us the majority of your most productive hours
  • Goal-based environment (as opposed to grind-based or decree-based environment; work smarter, not harder). We collaborate on setting goals, but you set your own process for accomplishing those goals. You will be entrusted with a lot of responsibility and you might even experience fulfillment and self-actualization as a result.
  • Daily physical activity/mindfulness break + stipend (take an hour and the company's money to make yourself more awesome by using it for yoga, tap-dance lessons, a new bike, massage, a surfboard - use your imagination! Just don’t sit at a computer all day!) Come back to work more relaxed and productive and share your joy with the rest of the team!
  • Equipment/setup budget so you can tool up the way you want. A brand new 15" MBP is standard issue if you have no strong opinions.
  • Quarterly travel stipend, as explained above. Short version: four quarterly trips per year = three smaller ones in US + one big one somewhere else.

Remember: We’re a startup. You’re an early employee. We face challenges. We have to ship. Your ideas matter. You will make a difference.

There aren't many industries left that haven't been significantly disrupted by technology in some way, but you're reading about one right here! You will find many opportunities on the front end, as the current admissions process is a huge source of stress and confusion for students and parents alike.

--

REQUIREMENTS

You know you are right for this position if:

  • You have at least five years of professional software engineering experience, and at least two years of front-end experience.
  • You are a self-starter and internally motivated, with a strong desire to be part of a successful team that shares your high standards.
  • You are familiar with modern JS in the form of ES6 and Purescript, and have extensive experience with the React ecosystem.
  • You have great written communication skills and are comfortable with making big decisions over digital presence (e.g. video chat).

Description

Panorama is on a mission to radically improve student outcomes by helping educators act on data. Our engineers are changing history way beyond git rebase -i. Our platform reaches thousands of schools serving millions of students and helps educators collect and analyze data to improve their practice. The engineering team is involved in every step of the product cycle, working closely with many other teams (and our users!) to brainstorm and build solutions to education’s toughest problems.

Sure, we have strong technical chops, but we make sure to constantly challenge ourselves and grow. From lunchtime guest talks and weekly book clubs to hackathons and open-source projects (both in the office and outside it), we try to improve ourselves as we help schools around the world do the same.

In this role, you will:

  • Work on fascinating and challenging problems, like:

    • Learning recommendation engines that correlate educator data with community-generated content.

The giant hairy problem you’ll be solving:

We’ve got some pretty aggressive goals for growing our business and we’re building a fully functional team to drive growth forward. Engineers, marketers, and designers all the same team with a single goal in mind: drive as much growth in as short of a time as possible.

We already have a world-class team in place. But how much faster can we go? 10X? 100X? This is where you come in. You’ll work with us to find every possible source of growth.

Standard marketing strategies aren't going to cut it. We need to blend marketing with engineering in order to scale our funnels by an order of magnitude. We aggressively A/B test all of our ideas, try every hack we can think of for scaling acquisition, and wrestle with untested channels that no one else has tapped yet.

The caliber of talent on this team is high. You’ll be pushed to your limits and on the cutting edge.

You’ll learn more in 3 months than you did all of last year.

We’re not here to follow mediocre best practices. We want to deeply understand what drives a business forward. Which variables have all the leverage? How do we persuade people to take action? How can we scale beyond our wildest expectations?

We have a simple goal on the Growth team: learn faster than anyone else in the industry. The faster we learn, the faster we grow the company. You’ll be right in the thick of it. There’s no ego on this team so your ideas will have a chance to prove themselves just like everyone else. We force ourselves to constantly evolve our understanding of what actually drives growth.

We reach this depth of understanding by operating at an incredibly high tempo. Our iteration and feedback loops happen at a blistering pace. Testing combined with an intense tempo means you’ll learn faster than any of your peers.

You'll spend your time:

  • Running back-to-back A/B tests on every part of our business.

  • Building the front-end for campaigns that bend the internet to our will.

  • Experimenting with freemium tools and viral loops.

  • Finding ways to hack channels to acquire traffic and users in ways no one has thought of before.

  • Building internal tools and infrastructure for our data and testing.

The Giant Hairy Problem You’ll Be Solving

We’ve got some pretty aggressive goals for growing our business and we’re building a fully functional team to drive growth forward. We’ve already got world-class marketers and engineers on our Growth team. But there’s an absolutely critical skill-set missing: design. That’s where you come in.

You’re not just another body that makes things “pretty”. We need a much larger commitment from you. You’ll be responsible for the UX of the Growth team. For every campaign, app, and test, you’ll push to give our users a world-class experience that delights them at every step.

Which design variables matter? How do we persuade people to take action? When have we truly delivered the value that we’ve promised to our users?

We have a simple goal on the Growth team: learn faster than anyone else in the industry. The faster we learn, the faster we grow the company. You’ll be right in the thick of it. Your ideas will have a chance to prove themselves just like the rest of the team. Some of our ideas will shock us with their results. Maybe they totally crash and burn. Or maybe a random, boring idea throws us into an entirely new level. Either way, we force ourselves to constantly evolve our understanding of what actually drives growth.

We reach this depth of understanding by operating at an incredibly high tempo. Our iteration and feedback loops happen at a blistering pace. Testing combined with an intense tempo means you’ll learn more about what actually impacts customers than any previous project you’ve worked on.

Do you want to spend your design career following best practices or do you want to see what truly impacts people?

You’ll work on projects like:

  • Variants for A/B testing.
  • Launching new landing pages for campaigns.
  • Working with our engineers to build light-weight freemium tools for our audience.
  • Improving our student apps to show them the value of living a Rich Life.
  • New funnels and signup flows.
  • Other marketing odds and ends (social profiles, PPC ads, email designs, etc).

What We're Looking For:

  • Design skills that drive conversions and actions. This is not a branding team, this is an acquisition team.
  • Can take an idea all the way to coding by hand in HTML/CSS and JavaScript. Even better if you can do final front-end review and get the project shipped.
  • This is not an entry-level design position, you’ll need to know how to drive projects and hold our team to a high design standard.
  • Our team moves at an exceptionally high tempo, you’ll be shipping weekly if not daily. You’ll need to find that perfect balance between high quality design and getting a project shipped.
  • Comfortable descoping to meet deadlines. Short deadlines and a high tempo mean we can’t do everything. You’ll need to instantly see the most valuable piece of any project, make it as lean as possible, and find a way to get it shipped so we can see if it had any impact.
  • This is a 100% remote position, work from anywhere you like.

We are a team of distributed software developers focusing on exciting challenges of voice, video and text: real-time communications. We are Mojo Lingo: Voice Applications that Work Like Magic.

At Mojo Lingo, the focus of everything we do is communications. Communications underlie everything humans do: every new idea that spread, every magnificent cathedral built, every successful revolution happened because the team behind it communicated effectively. Our mission is to bring seamless, contextual, powerful communications to the world.

We seek an experienced Voice & Messaging Engineer to join our team creating these applications. As a remote position, you will be largely autonomous, and depend on conferencing, instant messaging and screen sharing for collaboration. Your strong problem-solving skills and love for a challenge will be brought to bear delivering ambitious features and vanquishing complex bugs. Each person on our team is empowered to make decisions and enjoys great latitude in choosing the right tools and method for the job, and so will you.

You should have experience developing, deploying, supporting, troubleshooting services that support voice & messaging. Ideally, this will include Voice over IP (such as SIP) and/or Instant Messaging (such as XMPP). You should be familiar with popular open source options, and even better if you know about commercial ones too. You also should not be afraid of pulling out tools like Wireshark and wrangling gigabytes of logfiles.

From the beginning we have been a distributed team, with headquarters in Atlanta, but our team members are located around North America, South America, and Europe. We build tools that enable people to communicate fluidly across a wide range of devices, technologies and physical spaces. We are known as application developers and often use technology like speech recognition, text-to-speech, Voice over IP (telephony and non-telephony), instant messaging/text chat and everything to do with the Web.

If you enjoy delighting people by making computers do unexpected things, all while solving complex, technical challenges in a unique industry, come join us!

Summary Requirements

Must Haves - Soft Skills

  • Curiosity and aptitude for learning complex systems
  • Excellent communication skills - since this is remote work, strong communication by phone/IM/email is critical
  • A commitment to deliver quality work on time
  • Mid-level developer with history of successful projects

    Must Haves - Technical Skills

  • 4+ years relevant experience
  • Experience developing and deploying voice or messaging applications
  • Experience troubleshooting voice or messaging services

  • Experience with any of the following: Asterisk, FreeSWITCH, ejabberd
  • Familiarity with SIP/SDP/RTP or similar media signalling protocols

    Duties and Responsibilities

  • Join our daily standup calls to report status to the team
  • Take feedback from testers and users to identify and resolve application problems
  • Make recommendations on additional features or functionality
  • Communicate with clients to understand requirements and report regularly on progress

About Patchman, the product

Our customers comprise of large web hosting providers all around the globe. Security is – obviously – extremely important to them. However, there’s one layer of the security stack they have little or no control over: the code of their end users. Most websites use standard software as a foundation. Did you know that about 30% of the web is running on WordPress, Joomla or Drupal? Hackers continuously exploit security vulnerabilities in these foundations to upload and execute malware. Effectively, this allows hackers to run any malicious code they want. For example: to send spam, launch DDoS attacks or inflict far worse damage.

Patchman comes to the rescue! We offer web hosting providers a fully automated SaaS solution to index security vulnerabilities/risks and resolve them by automatically applying safe backported patches and by defusing malware. On top of that, we offer a web app that helps all stakeholders (including security officers, system administrators, helpdesk employees and end users) to operate Patchman and keep the web secure.

Your role:

As a Linux Security R&D Software Engineer you play a critical role in the organization. You will have full autonomy and responsibility in doing research and development for our product in two major areas: 1) our agent software that is running on our customer’s web hosting servers and 2) innovative methodologies to more efficiently and effectively perform scans, resolve security vulnerabilities and clean up malware. You need to have a deep understanding of Linux, C/C++ and security. Your work directly impacts the safety and workings of millions of websites around the world, so attention to detail and a high quality standard for your work are extremely important skills that we are looking for in evaluating our candidates.

Your responsibilities:

  • Design, build and deploy new features for our Linux agent software.
  • Achieve maximum performance and effectiveness by utilizing and developing the Linux kernel, Linux subsystems, Linux ecosystem and low level optimizations.
  • Research and develop innovative methodologies to mitigate security risks and issues.
  • Review and iterate architecture to ensure scale along with our incredible growth.
  • Review and iterate architecture to ensure sensitive data is stored securely at all times.
  • Review and iterate implementation of Linux agent software to ensure maximum performance and low resource usage along with our increasingly complex methodologies.
  • Work with external firms on security audits.

    Our requirements:

  • You have a true passion for the security field.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or an equivalent professional education.
  • For Dutch candidates: Master’s degree in Kerckhoffs Institute for Computer Security is +1.
  • Several years of relevant work experience as a Software Engineer.
  • Advanced proficiency with C/C++.
  • Deep understanding and knowledge of the Linux kernel, its ecosystem and subsystems.
  • Deep understanding and knowledge of security.
  • Must be comfortable with customer-facing roles including support and documentation.
  • Self-driven work ethic. You need to love taking initiative and seeing things through to completion.

  • Comfortable working remotely.
  • Ability to get things done as a “self-starter,” i.e., without micromanagement.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States.
  • We prefer the Eastern timezone for this position, but are open to any for the right candidate.

This is a full-time position. If you’re interested and think you fit the description, send us an email at accountopsq32015@buysellads.com with your resume. Tell us about yourself, what you do, and why you want to work with us.

Additionally, you will be a technical leader for the customer facing teams at Mixpanel. You will be expected to help the rest of the organization “level up” by providing both formal and informal training and tutelage to folks at Mixpanel who want to become more technical.

For this role, we are interested in candidates who live in Europe, the Middle East, or Africa who want to working remotely, helping our customers in those time zones. • Confidence-inspiring when discussing internet security concepts

  • Mixpanel has been profitable since Feb, 2012.
  • We've raised $12M from: Andreessen Horowitz, Sequoia Capital, Max Levchin, Michael/Xochi Birch, Keith Rabois, Marc Benioff, and David Sacks.

    Culture

Throughout the interview process, a common question we get is: "So, what's Mixpanel's culture like?"

  • Data driven - we're an analytics company and so we live and breathe by what the numbers tell us. We try to measure everything - it's who we are!
  • Transparency - we strive to be really open and upfront with how we build our company. For example, the whole company knows how much revenue we make at any time.
  • Speed is really important at Mixpanel. Being fast is an essential part of every experience at Mixpanel: from building products to finding solutions to customer problems to responding to potential new hires.
  • Customer experience - our hope is to have the best customer support experience in the world. We'll do anything for our customers.
  • Geeky - we're geeky people so don't be surprised when you come in.
  • Education - we believe a big reason people quit their jobs is because they've stopped learning. Our goal is to provide resources for people in our company to keep challenging themselves and to be able to learn new things every day.

As our primary member support advocate, you will work with our members one-on-one through email, member forums, and social media channels. You will answer questions about the program, our recipes, cooking, the meal plans, and assist with technical issues.

Real HQ

2yr

Apply

Hello! We’re Real HQ and we’re five years old. Since 2010, we’ve grown to 37 employees, maintained profitability, and significantly expanded our customer base. We have an office in Austin, TX but pride ourselves in being a remote company—more than half of our team is spread across the United States.

Our Product team consists of two senior-level Rails developers and one frontend developer/designer. We maintain a custom-built, in-house CRM—creatively named Contacts—that supports our consumer-facing service, Agent Pronto.

Over the next few months, we plan to expand our product line and add new services. In order to do that more quickly and efficiently, we’re hoping to round our three-person dev team up to an even four.

Who You Are *fingers crossed*

You’re a seasoned Ruby on Rails developer who thrives in a flexible, self-directed environment. You have a history of delivering quality, scalable Ruby on Rails applications. You know what it’s like to be interrupted throughout your day and are excited to work with people that value the maker’s schedule. You transcend the left-brained developer stereotype, have an eye for design, and incorporate UX understanding into the things you build. Additionally:

  • You’re self-motivated to learn and incorporate new technologies and keep up with best practices.
  • You’re as comfortable writing code for the browser as you are code for the server.
  • You’re proficient with MySQL (database and query optimization is a plus).
  • You believe in the value of testing and rarely ship code without automated tests in place.
  • You have strong communication skills and are receptive to constructive feedback.
  • You have the ability to thoroughly, yet simply, explain features to everyday users.
  • You can clearly articulate your thoughts and feelings through writing.
  • You’re comfortable working on your own and are able to set ego aside when collaborating on features.
  • You’re not afraid to ask for help.

    How We Make

We don’t separate “product” from “engineering”. Our dev team is the Product team, and we all take responsibility for defining features, collaborating on their design and implementation, and finally, announcing them to the team.

We build our products using the following tools and languages, and we’ll expect you to be proficient in each:

  • Ruby, Ruby on Rails
  • HTML (Haml)
  • CSS (Sass)
  • Javascript (jQuery, CoffeeScript, Ajax)
  • Data stores (MySQL, Redis, Memcached)
  • Testing tools (RSpec, Capybara)
  • Continuous integration and deployment
  • Linux
  • Git
  • Nice-to-haves: Bootstrap, Backbone.js

We communicate using Slack, Basecamp, Github, and Google Hangouts. Occasionally, we pair-code with Screenhero.

    Some Specifics

We’re looking to hire immediately for a full-time, salaried position. You can expect to be paid a competitive market rate and work around 40 hours per week. We request that you reside in the United States, but once hired, you’ll have the flexibility to work from anywhere. You can choose when to start and end work each day (though, we request at least some overlap with a 9-5 CST schedule). You’ll also be provided with the following perks and benefits:

  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage. We pay 100% of your premiums and 50% for your dependents.
  • Unlimited vacation.
  • Up to 12 weeks of paid maternity / paternity leave.
  • Laptop and phone upgrades every three years. We’ll also pay your monthly phone bill.
  • Ongoing education stipend to use toward conferences, seminars, etc.
  • Fringe benefits (books, software, etc.)

We understand that working remotely can get a bit lonely, so we’re happy to provide an office or coworking space near you. You’ll also be invited to attend departmental meetups and our annual company retreat, Real Life. Last year, we spent the week in Boulder, CO. This year, we’re flying everyone to South Lake Tahoe for a relaxing week of working and hanging out.

We are seeking an experienced Web Front End Developer to join our team creating these applications. As a remote position, you will be largely autonomous, and depend on instant messaging and screen sharing for collaboration. In particular, we’re looking for someone who is a strong problem-solver and relishes a challenge in wrangling ambitious features and vanquishing complex bugs. Each person on our team is empowered to make decisions and enjoys great latitude in choosing the right tools and method for the job.

When we say “Front End” we are primarily looking for someone who can use the great power of JavaScript and Ruby on Rails to create interactive and ultimately usable web applications. The skills we think you’ll need the most are JavaScript (experience with frameworks like React, Angular, Ember or similar is required, but we’re looking for someone who is flexible), as well as experience delivering applications with Ruby on Rails. Obviously you should also be strong with HTML and CSS. If you’re not a great designer, not to worry. We’re more concerned about someone who can deliver the function over the form.

Front End Developer - Rails & JavaScript

Must Haves - Soft Skills:

  • Curiosity and aptitude for learning complex systems
  • Excellent communication skills - since this is remote work, strong communication by phone/IM/email is critical
  • A commitment to deliver quality work on time
  • Mid-level developer with history of successful projects

    Must Haves - Technical Skills:

  • 2-5 years relevant experience
  • Experience developing web applications with Rails
  • Experience developing Single-Page Applications and other complex JavaScript-powered interactions
  • Strong understanding of HTML & CSS
  • Experience with Bootstrap and jQuery
  • Experience with at least one front-end JavaScript framework: React, Angular, Ember
  • Strong grasp of software engineering fundamentals

    Nice-to-Have - Bonus Skills:

  • Experience with WebRTC
  • Experience with XMPP or other instant messaging systems
  • Experience with multiple JS frameworks
  • Basic design abilities

    Duties and Responsibilities

Drive development of important, customer-facing projects

  • Work on stories as described in our agile project management tool (Pivotal Tracker or Sprintly)
  • Join our daily standup calls to report status to the team
  • Take feedback from testers and users to identify and resolve application problems
  • Make recommendations on additional features or functionality
  • Diagnose failures in staging and production environments, understand the underlying issues, and resolve them
  • Maintain knowledge of JavaScript & Rails developer tools and best practices
  • Communicate with clients to understand requirements and report regularly on progress
  • Be self-sufficient delivering assigned tasks - we work as a team, but we expect the members of that team to pull their own weight and contribute independently

    Technology

This is some of the technology we use on projects with our clients. Not every project uses every technology, but we get to apply a diverse range of technology to solve the problems.

  • Version control: Git (Github)
  • Web backend: Rails
  • Web frontend: jQuery, Bootstrap, Candy
  • Asynchronous workers: Resque, Sidekiq
  • Development project management: Pivotal Tracker
  • Database: MySQL, PostgreSQL, Redis, LDAP, ElasticSearch
  • Telephony: Adhearsion, Asterisk, FreeSWITCH
  • Messaging & PubSub: XMPP (ejabberd), Redis

    Education and Experience

  • 2-5 years of relevant industry experience, majority with Ruby
  • Proven track record of delivering projects
  • Experience working on small teams preferred

    Location

Live wherever you like! This is a remote position. Of course, if you happen to be in the Atlanta area, you’re welcome to work out of our offices downtown. If you’re not in Atlanta, please be within 5 hours of US Eastern Timezone.

Overview:

We have offices in Ithaca, NY and Madison, WI — but will consider remote employees when there is a strong match of skills and experience. Please reference job # SWD15-01.

Want to do innovative work on innovative projects? Develop tools that help real people improve real software? Be a smart person on a smart team, where everyone brings their A game every day?

At GrammaTech, you will be part of an engineering team with a proven record of turning cutting-edge research into commercial products. You'll be part of every phase of the development lifecycle from design through release (and back around).

You:

  • Want to work on projects that are truly interesting and useful
  • Get satisfaction out of shipping a release or a research prototype, and out of pointing at aspects of it and saying "that's mine."
  • Create software development tools that you would love to use yourself
  • Are rock-solid on the fundamentals
  • Can convince others when you're right, and learn when you're wrong

    We:

  • Make static-analysis tools that are used worldwide by Fortune 500 companies, educational institutions, startups, and government agencies
  • Have a research arm that explores new horizons in software analysis, and a product arm that brings the research to market
  • Are software experts. All the way to the top of the company
  • Are located within a couple of miles of major universities in both Ithaca (Cornell University) and Madison (University of Wisconsin), and collaborate with both

    Qualifications:

  • At least a BS in computer science or equivalent experience. MS is great. PhD is extra-great
  • Advanced software application development skills in Java. It's not just about our own code, it's about taking other people's software apart and showing them what makes it tick
  • Experience: At least three years of industrial experience or graduate-level work is highly desirable, but good new graduates are welcome and encouraged to apply

    Bonus Skills:

Know one or more of these? So much the better.

  • Compiler design or static analysis, especially Java analyses such as control-flow analysis, points-to analysis, information-flow analysis, slicing and taint analysis
  • Knowledge of general Java-analysis frameworks, such as Soot or WALA is a big plus
  • C, C++, Scheme, Python, or JavaScript
  • Machine code, especially x86, PowerPC, or ARM
  • System-administration experience

We're hiring another iOS developer to help us build great native apps for Basecamp on all Apple platforms. You'll join an existing iOS team at Basecamp that's currently hard at work building a next-generation native app, but you'll also help keep our legacy catalogue of apps humming.

It's an offering for an experienced developer. You should have multiple shipped iOS apps under your belt (or one amazing one). You should be well-versed in iOS frameworks and APIs, but also be comfortable going off the golden path when necessary.

Our native development approach at Basecamp is hybrid (https://signalvnoise.com/posts/3743-hybrid-sweet-spot-native-navigation-web-content). We combine great native navigation around WebViews and ground-up native features to get the best of both worlds: Productivity through shared codebases on the web, and great fidelity through native.

So while the bulk of the work is in ObjC/Swift, you should also be reasonably comfortable with both JavaScript and Ruby. Enhancing a Rails application to extend the API or tinkering with Turbolinks (https://github.com/rails/turbolinks) to make it work with a native-JavaScript bridge shouldn't scare you.

It's a great time to join Basecamp and our iOS team. We've recently gone all-in on Basecamp (http://37signals.com). Millions of people have used Basecamp, and our iOS apps are both well-liked and growing rapidly as the way people use the system. The latest work we've been doing, and that you'll help us finish, will make that even more so the case.

We're looking for someone who's ready to do the best work of their career – without risking their health, sanity, or life outside of work. Basecamp is here for the long term. We've been in business for 16 years (5 before Basecamp, 11 since Basecamp), and we've been profitable the whole time. We're not beholden to or on any venture capitalist timeline. Private and profitable allows us to set our own course given what's best for our customers and employees.

We believe in taking great care of our incredible team (https://basecamp.com/team), most of whom have been with us for a long time. This means lovely benefits to help you be the best you possible: fitness and massage allowances, fresh fruit/vegetable subsidies, helping out with continued education, matching charity donations, and of course great healthcare and retirement assistance (401k match in the US). When you've been here for a year, you're also in on Fridays off in the Summer. It's a great package that's part of creating a great scene (https://signalvnoise.com/posts/1164-average-environments-beget-average-work).

Since we literally wrote the book on working remotely (http://37signals.com/remote/), we're of course also open to applicants from both the Americas and Europe (any further away is tough to get enough timezone overlap). We do, whoever, expect your proficiency with English to be at or close to a native speaker. If you happen to be in Chicago, we have a lovely office (http://37signals.com/office) for you to work from as you please. If not, we'll pay for co-working space or help you outfit a great home office.

Apply

Want to use your design skills to help people in a meaningful way? The Iron Yard is hiring a UI Designer to join its product development team. As the first designer on our product team, your design abilities will have lasting impact on students as we build tools to help teachers teach and students learn.

The product team at the Iron Yard will be focused on helping students learn both in the classroom and on an ongoing basis once they’ve completed their program. We want to help students find a career they love and then grow in it for the rest of their lives.

The ideal designer will need to have a broad set of skills and be ready to dig in and do what it takes to launch a new web application. We’ll look to this person to help us determine how best to build the design team as our needs grow.

What the role and responsibilities look like:

  • User Interface Design: You’ll be designing and building the UI for a new web application, but will also be designing the visual framework with which we grow that application. You’ll work closely with our Creative Director to adhere to and advance our brand as it relates to UI.
  • Look & Feel: UI design is about more than solving usability challenges - the interface sets the tone for the user experience. We're looking for someone who has a deep understanding of design principles and can consistently carry over the personality of The Iron Yard brand into the development of beautiful web applications.
  • Front End: We need a UI designer who can write the HTML and CSS for the interfaces they design. You won’t be on your own, though. We have a team of experienced developers that you’ll work with each day.
  • Focus on education: While you won’t be teaching students directly, the interfaces you build will be used to educate, so you’ll need to be ready and willing to grow your knowledge of education. You’ve got to commit, above all else, to helping our students learn through the interfaces you design.
  • Collaboration: We’re a team that works very collaboratively and that is willing to hear anyone out. The ideal UI Designer for our team will take others’ opinions into account, and also clearly explain their own opinions.

    Your qualities and experience:

  • Self-starter who takes ownership of your role
  • Expertise (and lots of experience) in HTML5 and CSS3; familiarity with JavaScript and interacting with the DOM
  • A passion for design and for creating amazing products
  • Really care about the mission of filling the gigantic developer shortfall happening in our industry
  • A good sense of humor
  • Big fan of open source work and building the dev community in general
  • Bonus: great at finding epic gifs

    About The Iron Yard:

The Iron Yard is a solution at the juncture of supply, demand, and a broken education system. We are committed to training the highest-quality developers in the world, both in skill and in character. Our mission is to find people who want to pursue the craft and life-long adventure of programming, teach them the tools of the trade, teach them how to teach themselves, and then release them into the world with the drive and capability to make a difference. We believe that passionate, talented people who love what they do will create great families, jobs, companies, and solutions to the world’s problems.

We want to accomplish this alongside talented, passionate people who share our vision, love what they do, and want to have a whole lot of fun along the way.

The Iron Yard exists to create exceptional value for people and their ideas through code education. We offer a fun, laid-back working environment, competitive salary and 100% employer-paid benefits.

    Location:

We welcome teammates to join us in Greenville, SC where we are headquartered. However, this position may work remotely.

    Compensation and benefits:

  • Competitive full-time salary
  • 100% paid medical insurance with a health savings account. We deposit your deductible into your account each year so your out-of-pocket expenses in-network expenses are removed. We also cover your dental insurance premiums and offer very generous paid time off.

Sound like a dream come true?

We'd love to have a chat. Fill out an application and we'll start a conversation.

Some of your ideas will shock us with their results.

Facebook Advertising Specialist for MeetEdgar.com

keywords: facebook fb ads, online acquisition, social media advertising, ppc, paid acquisition

We’re looking for one amazing human (or several dogs in a trenchcoat) to oversee and execute our Edgar Facebook advertising strategy. Facebook has already been a super successful channel for us, and we’re looking to ramp up our budget and use it to get even MORE customers. You’re the one to make it happen!

Edgar launched one year ago, and we already have thousands of happy, paying, fabulous customers - and we know there are thousands more out there just waiting to discover us via YOUR brilliant ads! Right now, we’re growing ~20% month over month, and we bet you can help make that number even more awesome. (No pressure, right?)

Who You Are

You are an expert-level Facebook advertiser. You love spending all day with your nose in a spreadsheet digging through details and crunching numbers like a big ol’ nerd. You are the best out there at data-driven decision making. You know when to test something, when to stick with what you’ve got, and when to start over entirely. You get a not-so-secret thrill from driving down our CAC - why, just thinking about it makes you get all tingly!

You have at least two years experience in Facebook specifically. (Well, in Facebook ads. Not just in liking funny cat videos. Though that’s valuable in its own right.)

Your Resources

You will have full control over our FB ad strategy and execution. No one will be overseeing or telling you what to do - if you prefer someone breathing down your neck, this probably isn’t for you. You’ll have a designer and writer to support you in creative. Our ad budget is currently about $35k/mo., and you’ll have full liberty to grow that as long as it’s profitable! Seriously, you just focus on being awesome and we’ll make it rain all over that budget.

You’re not just brainstorming the ads - you’re also the one in the trenches setting up, managing, and evaluating them. That means you need to love getting your hands dirty in the nitty-gritty details. Facebook ads will be YOUR baby, and you get to control the workflow, the process, and the outcomes. You’re a control freak? GOOD.

We will bow to you as our resident Facebook ad expert, and bestow upon you fame and glory. You’ll even help us expand our paid acquisition team in 2015 and add more people as amazing are you are! (If any such people exist. Because come ON, right?)

About Us

You can check out http://meetedgar.com/careers/ to learn more about us, but here’s the CliffsNotes version:

We’re a small team of 10 people, all working remotely across the US. We do a lot of collaborating and meme-swapping on Slack, along with virtual team meetings on the regular and a twice-annual meetup week where we work together on cool projects all day and generally make fools of ourselves all night.

We’re proudly bootstrapped and profitable, which means we get to turn down VC money a lot and keep doing things the way we like. We’re big fans of Chet Holmes. We’re also big fans of doughnuts.

Benefits

We cover 75% of health insurance for you and your family. We do 401k matching. We’re really into ongoing education, so of course we’ll cover any education materials you need to enhance your mad skills. We don’t have a fancy espresso machine or free beer on Fridays. We will pay you enough to be able to buy all the beer and espresso you like.

Requirements

  • You would call yourself an expert in Facebook ads and have at least two years experience
  • You live anywhere in the USA, Canada, or an International Space Station that operates in these time zones
  • You are a data-driven thinker
  • You are passionate about making everyone jealous of how much business we drive from our Facebook ads
  • An awesome company culture is really important to you in deciding where to work (spoiler alert: we have one!)

At Envato, we value people who can roll up their sleeves and get things done while keeping the big goals in sight. As a Development Operations Engineer you’ll be working in a hands on capacity as part of the delivery team to make sure our software and infrastructure work as a single, seamless system.

Responsibilities

  • In a partnership with the Web Infrastructure Architect and the development team, ensure the creation, configuration and maintenance of our infrastructure is automated and managed in a repeatable way with modern tooling such as Puppet or Chef
  • Working closely with the entire delivery team to ensure we’re building systems that solve our customers needs
  • Help build and manage the monitoring of our live systems focusing on stability, performance and business effectiveness
  • Diagnose and fix performance issues on the marketplace no matter which part of the stack they appear in
  • Communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical members of the Marketplace team about proposed changes, their impact, how and when these changes may be delivered.

    Desired Skills and Experience

You will have built and managed large scale, web facing systems serving millions of pageviews a month while still supporting many deploys a day. You understand that configuring and managing this scale of infrastructure requires a fully-automated infrastructure provisioning toolset. You need to have a broad knowledge of system administration, networking, databases, security, storage and performance and have a deep technical expertise in at least one of these disciplines.

You align with the goals of the DevOps movement in improving collaboration between the development and operations disciplines.

    Essential Requirements

  • Be a nice person
  • Have an advanced level of unix operating systems management knowledge
  • Has used tools and frameworks for automating infrastructure in a previous role
  • Have managed public and private cloud-hosted infrastructure
  • Know how to manage and maintain relational database management systems
  • Know how to select or build monitoring and logging tools
  • Have implemented infrastructure to support a public facing web site handling millions of pageviews per month.
  • Have proven experience scaling other high volume/scale web apps
  • Communicate well in person and in writing
  • Be a curious person committed to continual learning
  • Be a natural coach who is able to develop your teammates to reach their potential
  • Be on values with Envato’s passionate and supportive culture

    Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Previous experience designing a system to be robust in a disaster situation
  • The ability to provide security and risk assessment and actions for a large e-Commerce site
  • Has participated in a culture of shared responsibility between software developers and infrastructure specialists.
  • Contribute to Open Source projects
  • Past experience in other agile environments
  • Network architecture
  • Experience with AWS and Rackspace

    What we offer

    A great set of sites

We now have 8 marketplaces, with over 6.4 million items for sale, and 5 million users. Our biggest marketplace is ThemeForest, which is the clear leader in its space. Our users are engaged and passionate, with our forums generating 20,000 posts a month.

The challenge of scale and speed of change

As a Development Operations Engineer you’ll be working in an environment which is unique in its scale and pace of change in Australia. The core application (written in Ruby on Rails) peaks at around 20,000 requests a minute and handles around 25 million application requests a day. Our development team will typically deploy the entire application 10-15 times per day and we are deploying software-defined infrastructure updates many times a week. Our traffic is 24/7 so there no “quiet periods” for maintenance. All this combined means you are unlikely to find a more challenging role of this kind in Australia.

    A great team and culture

  • We’re careful about hiring, and have built a team of great devs
  • Developers are responsible for features from inception through to them being in the hands of customers. The devs talk directly to customers about what they’re working on
  • We do continuous delivery properly: any team member can deploy, and we regularly do several deploys a day
  • We publish portions of our code as open source, and contribute back to open source projects we use
  • We run weekly retro and education sessions, and constantly encourage our team to improve their craft
  • We have a low politics-to-actual-work ratio
  • A fantastic culture of creatively minded, hard working people who are passionate about Envato and being part of its growth and success
  • Flexible working conditions – we want you to love your work but also your life outside of Envato
  • We actively work on creating a safe, inclusive environment free from discrimination
  • A fast paced and progressive environment where everyone has regular interaction with teammates and Envato community members from all over the world!
  • Read more from our staff about why they love working at Envato by visiting www.envato.com/careers/top-5 and www.jobadvisor.com.au/envato

    Who should apply?

We care deeply about diversity at Envato, and welcome applicants of all types, and from all backgrounds. If you think you have the skills and experience needed for this role then we'd like to hear from you. Work in our head office or remote, Australia-wide.
