Can you help us automate our infrastructure and help us build our first SaaS product?

We like to build stuff… sometimes complicated stuff… for Non Profits, Charities and Art Galleries. We’re on the lookout for a confident and ambitious Devops / Sysadmin to join our fast growing startup to help us automate our development processes and build our first SaaS product.

We do things a little differently, basing all our solutions on open source products offer a great work-life balance with flexible working hours and a real team mentality.

Our work covers web design, app development and branding for Charities and non-profit organisations across the country. Our clients include Charities such as Wikimedia and Farm Africa, art galleries such as the Photographers Gallery and Craft Central but also companies, trade associations and government bodies. We mainly work on the Drupal platform, but someone with a wide range of interests would be favourable.

We are looking for someone to join the team with the vision to help us automate our infrastructure so that everything runs like clockwork. That will involve:

  • Automating tasks such as security and deployment releases, site updates and server maintenance using tools such as Jenkins, Chef, Puppet, Ansible etc

  • Be the key architect in helping us to develop a robust SaaS platform for a really significant Drupal project for the not for profit sector that we are currently working on.

  • Integrating with Hipchat and developing an inhouse Hubot (or similar).

  • Develop command line tools to simplify developer tasks such as cloning client sites to local environments.

  • There will also be the opportunity to get involved with data migration, data integration, database tuning and management and the ideal candidate would have existing MySQL (or similar) experience.

If you live and breath Linux and love reconfiguring Web servers for the LEMP/LAMP stack until they are as secure as a rock but would also enjoy the challenge of developing a new SaaS platform on AWS then we would love to hear from you.

Key skills we are looking for:

    – Excellent Linux administration skills.
    – Some Web server experience (NGINX preferable, Apache useful).
    – Some DB admin experience (Mysql or equivalent).
    – Some experience with cloud technologies AWS/Open stack.
    – Previous experience with CI/DevOps tools platforms (i.e. Jenkins, Chef, Puppet, Ansible).
    – Good Git skills (comfortable preparing release branches).
    – Previous PHP deployment automation desirable.
    – Some experience/Knowledge in monitoring tools.
    – Strong collaboration, written and verbal skills.

What were looking for is someone who can grasp concepts quickly, has great attention to detail, and most importantly loves a tech challenge. In short, we’re a team of self confessed geeks who love tinkering and tweaking until something is just right and are looking for someone who thinks and acts like us.

We’re looking for a cloud engineer that is comfortable working with developers, has good feeling with modern application-stacks, knows a thing or two about working in the cloud and has a thing for keeping things running smooth.

Amazon Web Services, Ubuntu, Puppet, Nagios/Icinga, Apache, Nginx, Varnish, TerraForm, Vagrant, Jenkins, CouchDB, Redis, Elasticsearch, MongoDB, MySQL, Node.JS, PHP, Ruby, Python, Java, ...

You’ll have the opportunity to play with these technologies. If some of these are new to you, that’s totally cool. We’ve all learned on the job, we’re looking for people who can pick up any technology quickly. And off course, there are cool conferences and external experts to learn from as well.

For this position we are looking for somebody who has quite some operational experience in running production workloads. Somebody who knows what boxes need to be ticked to make sure everything is covered.

At Canonical it is our mission to make open source software available to people everywhere. We believe the best way to fuel innovation is to give the innovators the technology they need. As a Systems Reliability Engineer (SRE) for the Information Services (IS) team you'll play a key role in driving this mission and helping to define the future of free software.

SREs work closely with development teams to build and maintain the extraordinary infrastructure required to run all of Canonical and Ubuntu’s systems and services. The scope of our responsibility combined with the overall size of our environment means that our SREs face new challenges every day. From developing automated processes for faster, more reliable deployments to building large and scalable cloud environments, every day at Canonical is an opportunity to learn something new and collaborate with some of the most talented technical minds in the industry.

IS supports and maintains all of Canonical’s production services and IS team members use real-life operational experiences to contribute to product improvements. As an SRE you’ll be in a unique position that will allow you to provide critical feedback to developers by writing code, submitting bugs, and working with others within the company to ensure that Canonical products are as good as they can be. You will also be able to develop and submit fixes and enhancements directly.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES

SREs rotate through three roles:

  1. Maintaining all core services, networks, and infrastructure (including public and private clouds). The ability to work under pressure and demonstrate sound problem solving skills in a fast-paced and complex environment are key here.

  2. Working directly with a variety of development teams within Canonical in a devops role to test, deploy, monitor and maintain services running on our production clouds. This will require an overlap of development and administration skills, as you help write and review code you will then use to deploy and maintain services using Canonical's cloud products.

  3. Larger project work, currently focused on large scale cloud deployments and overall process improvements. This role gives SREs the ability to utilize development and architecting skills in a focused manner that is unique to Canonical.

    REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

You have prior experience working in a large highly available environment
You are willing to be flexible and adaptable with the ability to learn new things quickly.
You have strong development skills (Python, Go, Ruby, etc.) with experience writing code.
You are heavily focused on automation preferably with experience in building and maintaining self-service tools.
You have authoritative understanding and experience with the administration of infrastructure services such as DNS, DHCP, SSH, Apache/Nginx, HAProxy, Squid/Varnish, PostgreSQL/MySQL etc.
You have practical knowledge of IP networking and routing
You have a strong security focus including knowledge of network, operating system and application level practices
You have familiarity with software development and code review practices, including use of DVCS (e.g. git or bzr)
You have experience deploying, administering and maintaining services in a cloud computing environment
You are able to communicate clearly in English, especially using email and IRC
You have a college degree in a relevant technical field or equivalent experience.
You are are self-driven and able to troubleshoot, ask others when
    appropriate and find answers
You are motivated, organised, and willing and able to work well remotely within a distributed team
You are able to participate in our weekend on call rotation approximately 1 weekend every 18 weeks

    DESIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

You have prior experience administering OpenStack
You have familiarity with Juju and MAAS
You have familiarity with Ubuntu or Debian
You have prior experience with configuration management tools (Puppet, Chef, CFEngine, etc.)
You have prior experience maintaining and configuring routers and firewalls (Cisco, iptables)

  • You Haven’t Met a Problem You Can’t Solve -

That’s the thing about being a senior systems administrator: there’s no one to pass an issue off to. You know the systems inside out: all major Linux distros, cPanel, LiteSpeed, OnApp, etc. You know how to tackle tough design challenges, how to fix misbehaving systems, and how to stop security threats in their tracks.

    That’s why we want you.

We need someone that lives and breathes technology.

We’re looking to massively grow our hosting businesses over the next 1-2 years, and we need someone that can help us do that smoothly and effectively. We have a lot of new capabilities we’d like to bring online, but we’re missing some of the expertise and resources to make it happen.

But look, it’s not good enough to just be an expert at the tech side. We need someone that is capable of thinking bigger than the usual. Someone that can approach problems from a different angle.

We’re looking to bring something fresh and new to market; we want to provide unique value to our customers that they can’t get elsewhere. Sometimes that means we ask difficult things. You aren’t going to be able to just grab the solution off the shelf and drop it in. Maybe the solution doesn’t exist and we need you to produce it out of thin air.

  • Why You’ll Love Conseev -

We’re a fun, fast-moving team who believes in working hard and playing hard. We love to accomplish cool things, and do it faster and better than most people believe is possible.

Because we focus on delivering results, much of what you’d find at other companies doesn’t apply. Some people like to work during the day. That’s fine. Other people work better at night. That’s fine, too. In our case, one person’s night is another’s day because you never know where your coworkers might be.

Want to change countries next week? You won’t be the first. Or the second or third. We consider the world our playground, and couldn’t care less where you decide to call home (as long as there’s reliable Internet, of course), or how often you change your mind.

We like to take on big challenges, and are always looking forward to the next one. When we win, we love to celebrate success, and we like having the whole team share in it.

My name is Boris Mordkovich. I am a co-founder of a small, but growing, NYC-based electric bike company - EVELO (www.evelo.com).

Our company is focused on developing ways to make cycling more accessible to a wider range of the population by removing barriers that keep people from cycling in the first place (hills, age, fitness levels or even arriving to work sweaty).

We are very focused on delivering a wonderful customer experience to everybody who comes in touch with our company, as we believe that a friendly, personal and emphatic customer service is really what makes the customers happy and companies achieve greatness.

We have a team of about 10 awesome, friendly people right now - all of whom work remotely. We are growing quickly and so we are looking for a perfect candidate to fill a dual-role position of an Order/Shipping Coordinator + Receptionist.

=== What's The Job? ===

The job consists of two core responsibilities:

Role #1) As an order/shipping coordinator, you will be tasked with:

  • Reviewing incoming orders from individual customers and dealers
  • Coordinating shipment of each order with warehouse
  • Discussing alternative options with customer if their preferred color, configuration, model is out of stock
  • Coordinating and managing returns (with customer and our refurbishing center)
  • Overseeing current inventory and producing a monthly report for the team
  • Handling problems with FedEx/UPS/etc. or our warehouse when they arise
  • Coordinating parts shipments with the rest of the team for warranty issues
  • Managing billing issues and changes (Layaways, Financing, etc.)
  • Handling custom orders, such as Financing, Layaways and such.

This position is crucial to our operations running smoothly, so we're looking for someone with who has attention to detail, cares about things getting done right and on time, and doesn't get too stressed out when things get busy and hectic!

Role #2) As a Receptionist, you will be the first line of response on all inbound phone calls.

We have a team of 4 (and growing) customer service agents who are able to handle any service or sales issue.

Once you identify what the issue is, you'd need to take down the caller's information, check to see what Customer Service Manager is available at that particular time, and transfer the call to them.

This position includes (but not limited to):

  • Accepting all inbound phone calls and routing them appropriately.
  • Helping prepare several weekly and monthly reports for our team.
  • Assisting with other tasks, as they may come up.

    === The Logistics: ===

Location: Our current team is spread out all over United States, Canada and Argentina - so we are well adept with working with a remote-based team.

You can choose to work remotely or from our office in New York or Seattle (opening soon).

Hours: Ideally, we're looking for somebody that can do 10.00am to 7.00pm EST or 9.00am to 6.00pm EST.

Your impact

As a dedicated Site Reliability Engineer you will help us define the best practices, tools and automation to ensure our fast growing SaaS provides best in class high availability while increasing engineering velocity. Your work will empower more than 7,000 businesses around the world to deliver a great customer support experience. This is a critical role that will influence every engineer in the company and directly impact our customer's satisfaction. No matter how elegant our product is, it means little if customers can't always access our site with great performance.

ABOUT THE ROLE
  • We are looking for an experienced Site Reliability Engineer to build sophisticated continuous delivery and test automation to keep our AWS-based services highly available and fast while increasing the engineering team's velocity.
  • Help Scout engineering is 24 full time engineers organized into 6 teams. You will be a member of a small team with one engineer focused on continuous delivery (CD) pipelines, and 3 engineers focused on our AWS infrastructure and operations. Working with your team, you will partner with our feature delivery teams to build any automation they need to improve site reliability and velocity.
  • You will be responsible for working on our three biggest site reliability priorities: four 9s high availability, continuous delivery and test automation. You will own the implementation and roadmap planning for improvements to our automation, tools and tests to support these priorities. The majority of your time will be spent building or implementing continuous delivery, test and self-healing automation and supporting tools. You will be a key internal champion for any and all changes to make our production environments more resilient, scalable, and performant.
  • Your potential projects will include expanding our CI pipeline across all teams, testing and implementing auto-scaling groups, expanding our test automation (smoke, stress, chaos monkey, etc), and enhancing the velocity of our CI pipeline (parallel tasks, containers, etc).
  • This is not a primary on-call position. However you should expect to be called upon if services you own such as CD pipelines or test automation fail and primary on-call team members can't resolve the issue.
  • Our 100% remote engineering team spends most of their time in Slack and Github. Engineers can focus for long stretches with typically only 2 scheduled meetings a week (one with your team and one with your manager). Engineers write their own automated unit and integration tests, and use our CI pipeline to release code to production several times a day. You can read more about our culture and how our remote team stays agile at https://www.helpscout.net/blog/agile-remote-teams/

REQUIREMENTS

About You
  • You love building test automation that finds site reliability problems before they hit production while allowing software engineering teams to continuously deliver new capabilities.
  • You have worked extensively with a wide range of Amazon Web Services (EC2, ELB, EBS, RDS, VPCs, CloudFormation, etc) and are familiar with the benefits and challenges of their offerings. You know how to design systems for failure and how to autoscale and recover systems on AWS to ensure high availability.

Engineers can focus for long stretches with typically only 2 scheduled meetings a week (one with your team and one with your manager). Engineers write their own automated unit and integration tests, and use our CI pipeline to release code to production several times a day. The Apache Software Foundation (ASF) seeks to fill an Infrastructure Systems Administrator/Architect position. You will be responsible for working with the existing technical infrastructure team, and VP of Infrastructure at the Apache Software Foundation. The ASF manages a world-wide network of open source software which includes more than 750 software code repositories, a worldwide distribution and mirroring system for software; change management, issue tracking, and software management for 300+ Open Source initiatives and more than 11,000 contributors around the world.

Applicants should have a strong background in Computer and Information Science, and should be familiar with modern Dev/Ops environments. Applicants must demonstrate the ability to work in a remote team environment alongside others working in diverse locations around the world and in different timezones. The successful applicant will work with the existing Infrastructure team and VP, Infrastructure to manage the ASF's critical infrastructure and resources. Infrastructure team members are expected to work an on-call rotation with the rest of the team.

Familiarity with Puppet (or a similar configuration management tool) Linux (Debian-based), Virtual Machines, Subversion/Git and full development environment stacks are a requirement. Further, the candidate should possess great documentation skills and should be well versed in not only developing and assisting in technical solutions, but in documenting them.

Familiarity with how open source communities work is a plus.

English as a spoken and written language is required in order to facilitate team collaboration.

This is a remote work position, the ASF does not require nor provide office locations. Travel required for conferences and general team meetups.

We do have some performance issues
We need a general analysis of the environment and a recommendation on how to optimize it.
We need someone to create an overview of AS IS situation in the BO environment and some suggestion for the TO BE environment. Maybe different TO BE options with different prices.
We need a check of the system
Upgrades, new installations
It appears that we are paying for a 3 tier landscape, but only production is working right now (this should be changed, so that we have a real 3-tier landscape).
Help with specifying and sizing the BO environments
Right now it is old all of it, it is not scalable, it is a Windows 2008 standard server. It is running on virtual servers
We think that the production server should be a physical server, we probably need an enterprise server.
We don't know how many licenses are used compared to what are we paying for. We fear we are using more licenses that we have. And maybe we haven't entered the license keys correctly.
The BW warehouse is running on IBM Power database . It is only BO that we have issues with. We have the expertise we need in BW and other SAP modules.
BO was installed some years ago - maybe around 4-5 years old
We use version 4.1 right now with service pack service pack 2.
We need to get an estimate on how we could proceed - and what is the cost.
It seems that we bought a lot of licenses, but maybe not using them.
One of the SAP basis people is doing SAP license review, but he doesn’t have the knowledge to do it on BO.
We would like to have a dashboard where we can see what BO licenses we are using.
I think that there is a few hundred of users registered, we don’t know if they are using it. We have some concurrent user licenses (175 or something like that)
We use it for Financial Dashboard, 10-20 users and some other reports
You will be working together with infrastructure people and BO developers from the company.
We need everything in the BO platform documented - and knowledge handed over to us.
Maybe also some maintenance manuals for our installation needs to be created.

Instructure was founded to define, develop, and deploy superior, easy-to-use software. (And that’s what we did / do / will keep on doing.) We are dedicated to the fight against iffy, mothbally, shoddy software. We make better, more usable tools for teaching and learning (you know, stuff people will actually use). A better connected and more open edtech ecosystem. And more effective ways for everyone everywhere to access education, make discoveries, share knowledge, be inspired, and do big things. We accomplish all this by giving smart, creative, passionate people opportunities to create awesome. So here’s your opportunity.

Do you dream in SQL? When someone says CRUD, do you instantly think in terms of data manipulation? If you were given a Mongo book for your birthday, would you immediately trade it in for a book by Michael Stonebraker? If so, then we have a opportunity that you can not refuse. Come join a team that is making software to make people smarter, and who have a real chance to change the world.

We need someone who can:

  • Explain why databases are one of the most difficult layers of the stack to work with, and how to overcome their special challenges.

  • Comfortably work in a SQL prompt on production systems.

  • Thrive while working autonomously.

  • Be a point of contact for questions, both from technical engineers and less technical members of the company.

  • Be on top of problems before they become problems.

  • Be part of an on-call team.

  • Have the knowledge to respond to database problems at 3am.

  • Be able to automate stuff so that there aren't database problems at 3am.

Job Description

WalletHub is a high-growth start-up based in Washington, D.C. that is looking for talented, hard-working individuals to help us disrupt personal finance.

More specifically, we are harnessing the power of data analytics and artificial intelligence to build the brain of a smart financial advisor, whose services we’re offering to everyone for free. The WalletHub brain enables users to make better financial decisions in a fraction of the time with three unique features:

  1. Customized Credit-Improvement Tips: WalletHub identifies improvement opportunities and guides you through the necessary corrections.

  2. Personalized Money-Saving Advice: WalletHub’s savings brain constantly scours the market for load-lightening opportunities, bringing you only the best deals.

  3. Wallet Surveillance: Personal finance isn’t as scary with 24/7 credit monitoring providing backup, notifying you of important credit-report changes.

In addition to the valuable intelligence the brain provides, WalletHub is the first and only service to offer free credit scores and full credit reports that are updated on a daily basis absent of user interaction, rather than weekly or monthly and only when a user logs in. Some other services hang their hats on free credit scores and reports, yet they’re still inferior to what WalletHub considers minor pieces to a much larger puzzle.

Responsibilities include:

  • Ensure proper security, monitoring, alerting and reporting for the infrastructure and be the on-call for production servers

  • Develop security monitoring and other tools to ensure the integrity and availability of our applications, server resources, reviewing system and application logs

  • Work with the incident team to diagnose and recover from hardware or software failures working with or as the Incident Commander to coordinate and communicate with our internal customers

  • Assist project teams with technical issues during development efforts

  • Gather system requirements and support several project teams in evolving, testing and rolling-out new products and services, then transitioning the site or product to post launch operations activities throughout life of the product or service

  • Work with the application development team and other systems engineers to make improvements to current isfrastructure

  • Document processes and procedures and follow a formal change management procedure

Note: This position does not have a location requirement and can be performed either remotely or from WalletHub’s offices in downtown Washington, D.C. (preferred). Can be either part-time or full-time, but let us know what you prefer when you apply.

You probably haven’t run into a company like Olark before.

We are 39 people distributed around the globe working together to fundamentally change the way people communicate with businesses. We care deeply about customer service which is reflected in our All Hands Support model. Our passion and dedication for our over 10,000 customers is a direct result of our people centric org model.

You will play a pivotal role in helping define our engineering culture by contributing to our positive organization and fulfilling our company goals of providing the best possible experience to our customers. We do this by architecting and maintaining infrastructure to help thousands of people build stronger connections with their customers via real-time web chat.

Your primary responsibilities will be:
  • Automate Server and Application Provisioning: As part of the engineering team, you will help automate server and application provisioning using configuration management systems on a large scale to support our applications.
  • Build Scalable Infrastructure: You will architect scalable systems to support running our applications. These systems should be resilient to high loads of traffic and hardware failure.
  • Ensure high service availability: You will work towards maximizing the availability of our services to our customers. You will implement and maintain monitoring systems that will ease failure detection and recovery. You will also have primary emergency response responsibilities when infrastructure issues are escalated.
  • Customer Support: Every member of our team spends at least one day per month supporting our customers via Olark chat itself. You'll get a chance to talk directly to our customers and get a first hand experience using the product you'll build!

You will help us solve key engineering challenges:
Our backend infrastructure is composed of hundreds of virtual machines running on Rackspace’s public cloud. We maintain this configuration with Puppet and attempt to minimize busy work by implementing automation as we develop our infrastructure. We’re constantly thinking about how to grow while improving reliability via automation, monitoring, alerting, and self-healing systems. Some of the challenges you will help us solve are:

  • How do we effectively apply Software Engineering principles to infrastructure and operational challenges?
  • How do we build and deploy software that enables minimum latency for real-time messaging on a large scale?
  • How can we architect a distributed backend infrastructure that can serve hundreds of thousands of customers and is resilient to different types failure?
  • How do we design systems that are able to heal themselves after unexpected failures with minimum human interaction?
  • How do we reliably store terabytes of transcripts and customer interactions?
  • How do we maintain real time state across mobile, desktop, and web?
  • How do we engineer systems that allow users with sub-standard network connections have a good real-time chat experience?

You:
  • Your technical background and experience: You are a software developer with excellent Python skills. You have a solid understanding of different concurrency paradigms and have applied them in the past. You are very familiar with web technologies and patterns for scaling software like message queues, caching, and load balancing.
  • You are a strong software developer with an eye for automation opportunities: You have a strong desire to reduce manual, error-prone tasks by automating them through solid engineering practices.
  • Solid understanding of network programming and configuration: You’ve used command line tools to debug networking issues and have an understanding of different networking protocols. You also know about the challenges of building software in the cloud and are familiar with tools to manage infrastructure.
  • Self-directed, but open to collaboration: You are happy to work independently, but know when to ask for help. You know how to give and receive direct feedback. You are a team player and comfortable contributing to projects as well as open to leading projects. You deal well with ambiguity and realize it is an opportunity to experiment.
  • Excellent communicator: You are able to clearly communicate your thoughts, especially in text based communication to both technical and non-technical audiences. You know when a conversation should be in chat, skype, or face-to-face.
  • Empathetic: You realize listening is just as important as speaking your mind. You assume good faith of your teammates when there is conflict and are curious about understanding their perspectives.
  • Comfortable with or open to working remotely: The majority of your team will be distributed and you’ll communicate via remote tools: Slack, email, video conferencing, etc.
  • Meticulous attention to detail: You should be able to review code written by other engineers and find room for improvement. You should be able to write test suites for your code that exercise complicated code paths and prevent production mishaps.  Every time we push out new code is an opportunity to delight thousands of customers (or a risk of making a bad day for them).
  • Write good code: You should have examples of code you have written that is easy to read, maintainable, and testable. You should be able to decompose complicated problems into elegant solutions anyone on the engineering team can understand.
  • Always learning: You are a curious individual who is constantly learning about new technologies and enjoys sharing what you've learned with your teammates.
  • Significant production experience: You have 2+ years of experience shipping and maintaining production code that is used by 1000s of people. You have run into the edge cases of operating at scale, and can teach us how to avoid them.

You can expect a lot from us:
First off, make sure to read about our team culture at olark.com/jobs, and our values at olark.com/values. You can also get a sense of our history at olark.com/10000. Beyond what you see there, as a member of the engineering team you can expect:
  • A great remote culture and team: Even though we’re geographically dispersed, our team makes the effort to connect to one another and we provide in person opportunities to further enhance that bond. We genuinely like each other.
  • A life outside of work: Olarkers generally work 40 hour weeks. Work is a marathon, not a sprint. We are building a company for the long haul.
  • Quality-driven culture: we strive to automate testing and heavily monitor our production system. Our goal is ensuring that any end-user issues are short-lived and limited in scope.
  • One weekly required engineering meeting and team wide sync - we are also very conscious of providing the time to keep ourselves focused.

Olark is committed to diversity in its workforce. Olark is an equal employment opportunity employer and considers qualified applicants without regard to gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, race, veteran or disability status.

We do things a little differently, basing all our solutions on open source products, having flexible working hours and real team mentality.

- Automating tasks such as security and deployment releases, site updates and server maintenance using tools such as Jenkins, Chef, Puppet, Ansible etc

- Be the key architect in helping us to develop a robust SaaS platform for a really significant Drupal project for the not for profit sector that we are currently working on.

- Integrating with Hipchat and developing an inhouse Hubot (or similar).

- Develop command line tools to simplify developer tasks such as cloning client sites to local environments.

- There will also be the opportunity to get involved with data migration, data integration, database tuning and management and the ideal candidate would have existing MySQL (or similar) experience.

If you live and breath Linux and love reconfiguring Web servers for the LEMP/LAMP stack until they are as secure as a rock but would also enjoy the challenge of developing a new SaaS platform on AWS then we would love to hear from you.

To apply please send your CV through to us with a short covering letter explaining what got you interested and why you think you will fit in.

Please keep our production systems alive whilst our regular guy is on his honeymoon!

We're looking for a competent system admin or developer (with DevOps experience) who is after a bit of extra cash over the holiday season. You'll be paid to remain on-call from December 20th until January 21st. Our setup is quite stable and we don't expect you'll even be called-up – but it would be irresponsible of us to leave our services unmanned!

No surprises, $4000 just for taking the contract + $50/hr if you get called up.

You'll be responsible for keeping an eye on one production Linux (Ubuntu) host and the Docker containers that are running on it. You won't be required to write any code; ideally just reboot services or execute some pre-canned scripts if something goes wrong. You should however have good familiarity with Linux infrastructure in case something unforeseen goes wrong.

As part of the contract we'll spend 1-2 days (at your discretion) setting up access and giving you a run through on a non-production instance. You must be available for at least 4-6 hours on a week day prior to December 16th for this to take place.

All our apps are “Twelve Factor” (http://12factor.net/) and can be deployed or restarted in one command!

About Us

We’re an intentionally small, fully-remote team focussed on building a nationwide network of crowdsourced commercial real estate databases. Our wild start-up days are behind us – we're all grown up and profitable now with a 14-year track record and tens of thousands of clients that love us. Growth has been accelerating lately, and we could use some help wrangling our systems.

We're not dogmatic about our tools/technologies – we use whatever best suits the task at hand. Our current stack: SaltStack for automation, Wildfly/JBoss (serving up Java and ReactJS), MongoDB, MySQL, Apache Storm, the ELK stack, OpenGeo for geospatial (PostGIS, Geoserver, etc).

We're in the process of transitioning from a colocated environment to AWS (mostly EC2 with CentOS or Ubuntu, RDS, S3, etc). It's going well, but taking longer than we'd like.

About You

  • You have experience supporting and scaling complex web applications hosted via AWS.
  • You're reachable, communicative, and functional at 3am when the sky is falling.
  • You once improvised a hypervisor with a snorkel, a paperclip, and some chewing gum.
  • Like us, you value stability, work/life balance, group decisions, and working with people that are good-natured, interesting, hard-working, and self-motivated.
  • You hate both the corporate bureaucracy of a big company and the uncertainty of a start-up. You like having reasonable hours and knowing that your job will be around next week.

This is a full-time, 40 hours per week, remote, W2 position with benefits (health/dental/vision/401k).

To apply: Send a note to paul@catylist.com explaining why you're a fit for our team. Include a resume and anything else that will help us understand how 1337 you are.
