Millions of people discover nature with our apps: We help our users find great places and the best routes for cycling and hiking. To help us continue to do so, we are looking for a passionate backend engineer to build the future of outdoor guides with us—and to inspire people to explore more of the great outdoors every day.\nAs a lean startup, we aim for impact and look for pragmatic solutions based on the latest infrastructure and platforms. As komoot’s next backend engineer, you know the importance of self-healing and scaling systems, you build your software stack accordingly—and you always find simple solutions to complex problems.\n**Your key responsibilities**\n- Implement new features closely together with our web and mobile developers, designers, copywriters and product managers.\n- Keep our system state-of-the-art and resilient as load and features increase.\n- Join the challenge of operating an auto-scaling fleet of 50+ EC2 instances, SQS, DynamoDb, Lambda, Kinesis and more, all within the AWS universe.\n- Build new and improve existing micro-services, primarily in Java or Kotlin.\n**Why you will love it**\n- You’ll work on a global product that inspires millions of users.\n- You’ll get system access on your first day as we know you are a smart and responsible engineer.\n- You’ll take ownership over your projects from day one (from concept to implementation; testing, deployment and monitoring).\n- You’ll be offered ample opportunity to consistently improve your skills and stay up-to-date with the latest technologies.\n- You’ll work with komoot’s entire backend team on the full system: You’ll constantly contribute to the big picture rather than just a subsystem\n- We believe good ideas count more than hierarchies.\n- You’ll work together with enthusiastic engineers, hikers and cyclists.\n- We let you work from wherever you want, be it a beach, the mountains, our headquarters in Potsdam or anywhere that lies between the time zones UTC-1 and UTC+3\n**You will be successful in this position if you**\n- Are highly self-driven, responsible and keen to learn and improve.\n- Know your toolkit: git, ssh, bash, junit, jenkins, docker and AWS.\n- Have deep experience (4+ years) in developing distributed and resilient web applications.\n- Are fluent in Kotlin or Java and interested in other languages, such as Python or JavaScript.\n- Know which pattern, framework and infrastructure can best solve your problem.\n- Live and breathe DevOps and believe in automated testing, infrastructure as code, immutable infrastructure, continuous deployment, monitoring and open communication\n**Sound like you?**\nThen send us the following:\n- Your CV\n- Why you are interested in working at komoot\n- Examples of your work (e.g. GitHub, PDFs, Slideshare, etc.)\n- A little extra information about you, be it your OpenStreetMap contributions, your Twitter, Tumblr or Flickr profile, or your website. We want to see what you’re interested in!

SaleHoo.com is a New Zealand-based company creating online tools and training for people looking to start their own online businesses. We’re based in Christchurch, but the majority of our team work remotely from various places around the world. (Living in the future FTW!)\n\nWe're looking for a talented individual to join us in writing content for our popular drop ship and wholesale directory.\n\nOur directory contains an educational section covering topics including eBay selling, Amazon selling, what products sell well online, how to market physical products online, importing and shipping and so on. \n\nWe're looking for someone with experience with these topics and industry to help us write lessons, scripts and blog posts (and whatever else turns up!).\n* You should be experienced in at least several aspects of this industry: For instance, online selling, wholesale sourcing, marketing physical products. \n* You must be able to break a task down and get right to the heart of it: No lessons full of fluff, no beating around the bush. Our users want clear-as-day, step-by-step, hype-free lessons.\n* You should be a clear thinker: Able to objectively analyse a piece and ask yourself whether it is truly succeeding in what it's trying to do, and not afraid to overhaul something that isn't working.\n* You must be good at paying attention to detail and checking facts (things change rapidly in this industry!)\n* And obviously, your technical grasp of English must be good and things you write must be readable and make sense. The "making sense" part is the most important. We can handle the odd erroneously-placed apostrophe, so long as the heart and structure of the writing is A-OK!\n\nThis is a great opportunity to flex your writing muscles. While a lot of the content can be reasonably technical, the way we write the content has to be friendly, entertaining, personable and accessible to a wide audience.\n\nWhile qualifications or experience in writing or journalism would be valuable, we're more interested in industry knowledge and your ability to write with clarity. If you think you've got the spark we're after... then we want to hear from you.\n\nNeat things about working with us:\n* Flexible hours (we are happy to discuss full-time, part-time, contracting for the role). \n* Work from home (or from our Christchurch office)\n* Relaxed, ego-free, family-friendly work culture

\nAre you ready to write code for millions of customers? Would you like to point to customer-facing features on one of the most popular websites in the world and say, “I built and shipped that” after your first few weeks on the job? As a Software Developer on the Amazon Answers team you will envision and create features that touch every Amazon customer and transform the online shopping experience.\n \n Who you’ll work with: The Amazon Answers team is a small, scrappy team that employs lean agile development. We work in two-week iterations and ship code daily. We hate building stuff that customers don’t want, so before we invest in large production systems we quickly validate our hypotheses with small tests. We are incredibly close to customers: as an engineer on our team, you will regularly call customers to learn more about their experiences with our program. When we do build out systems for scale, they must handle a blistering number of transactions per second. We take pride in owning our entire code stack, from how fast our templates render in the customer’s browser through to our service layer and down to the underlying data model. We are a diverse team from a variety of backgrounds and interests who love dreaming up, validating, and shipping features that deliver big customer impact.\n \n The problems you’ll work on: You will build software that engages the Amazon community to get answers to customer product questions as quickly as possible. Our problem space provides a unique blend of challenges: you will build social features to connect customers to one another, you will play with large datasets, you will analyze customer-submitted content using natural language processing techniques and you will build distributed systems to make this content available in real time to our customers.\n \n Some example challenges that face our engineering team every day:\n\n\n* How would you help a customer who is shopping for a new camera lens find the right information? What if the website doesn’t have the information? How would you determine who in the Amazon community we should direct this question to?\n\n* What are the most important questions to a customer before making a purchase? How would you automatically answer these questions before the customer even knows what to ask?\n\n* Everyone on the team is a product owner. How can you continuously improve the Amazon Answers experience for customers every day? What are your ideas to change the shopping experience? How do you make them a reality for millions of customers?\n\n\n\n\n*LI-LW2\n\n\n* Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field, or 4+ year relevant work experience\n\n* 8+ years professional experience in software development\n\n* Computer Science fundamentals in object-oriented design\n\n* Computer Science fundamentals in data structures\n\n* Computer Science fundamentals in algorithm design, problem solving, and complexity analysis\n\n* Proficiency in at least one modern programming language such as C, C++, Java\n\n\n\n\n\n* Experience building complex software systems that have been successfully delivered to customers\n\n* Knowledge of professional software engineering practices & best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations\n\n* Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and management to collect requirements, describe software product features, and technical designs\n\n* Ability to take a project from scoping requirements through launch\n\n* Familiarity with front-end Javascript libraries, like Ajax and JQuery\n\n* Proficiency with SQL, and SQL databases\n\n* Understanding of distributed data storage and caching\n\n\n
