We are doing internet media buying (banners, emails, ...) in different interfaces.

Each interface we have to 'hack' if we want to become really profitable.

Build our robots track for example time when conversions (sales) happened and then we get statistics - when is it affordable to have our ads shown and when it isn't... so we setup day parting properly on our ads.  Or that we adjust bids (price willing to pay accordingly).

Really, PHP thing I can see if you can do or not, but statistics if you don't understand it, nobody can teach you that you need to compare apples to apples to get meaningful data.

You can be located anywhere but I need perfect English so you understand interfaces.

This is fulltime position and I need you to think with your head.  We are a small but cool team and you become a member of it -- we expect a lot from you, but also once we accept you, you're one of us -- 'smart hackers' outsmarting marketing competitors with technology and brains.

If interested, please answer this when applying:

1) what was your last company you worked for and how long you worked for and why you quit or what happened.

2) how good is your experience with php

3) how your day looks like, what are your hobbies

4) how often you’re online

5) does it make big difference for you whether it’s Thursday or Sunday?

6) If you need to get an expensive software for the project and you find the same on torrent site - are you going to download it and save the costs or do what is legal and spend money?

7) do you work out?

8) what salary you’re happy with per month?

9) any relevant experiences?

We are a largely virtual company with major efforts in Austin, TX.

You’ll be reporting to our lead developer and working with our whole team. We’re all about information marketing so you’ll be working with some of the best in the industry. You’ll be responsible for making sure that our content is delivered to our clients and fast and effectively as possible.

This is a work-from-home position, and you will be expected to work about 20-40 hours a week. *We only hire top talent*, and have high expectations... so if you thrive around intelligent, driven people (and just as importantly, you're fun and optimistic) then you'll fit in great here.

Here are some things that we'll expect of you:

- Develop web pages based on set specifications

- Test your pages in different browsers supported by tools(e.g. crossbrowsertesting.com) and provide a self-test report for each

- Coordinate end-to-end tests with Lead Developer and QA team

- Run tests on a sequence of pages to check validity of analytics, conversion tracking pixels, etc. and document test results

- Review work to find bugs and problems

- Reviewing test protocols and improving them

- Setting up Wordpress installations and Wordpress themes

- Adapting Wordpress themes to our needs

- Create and follow a Style Guide to bring consistency to the suite of sites we run

- Replicate the functionality of other sites we send you and reproduce on our own sites.

- Convert PSDs to pixel perfect HTML

As for your working personality, we expect that...

- You deliver very clean, high quality code

- You like to keep your edge sharp and keep up to date with technology trends and the fast-moving world of web technologies

- You have a broad understanding of how HTML/CSS/jQuery works

- You get the Full Stack and can work with your back-end system peers

- You're able to work on tasks with a quick turnaround time

- You're detail-oriented

- You're regularly available during EST/EDT working hours via Skype

...and most important, that you actually think about and review what you've developed. We've worked with far too many developers who send us work that's full of obvious errors in formatting, artwork placement, spacing, and so on. We don't expect you to be a mind-reader, but we expect you to have an eye for making things look 'right'.

Apply

Marketade, an 8-person distributed digital agency, is looking for a senior user experience researcher and designer to join our team.

This is a new, flexible role driven by an expanding client workload. It's a great fit if you're looking for big impact, constant learning, and project/skill diversity.

We're particularly interested in UX unicorns who can 1) do both research and design, 2) bring Lean UX methods to enterprise projects, and 3) mentor, train and lead others.

Job basics:

Full-time hours
About half our team and clients are in the greater DC area, so we have some preference for candidates in DC/MD/VA. That said, our workflow is almost entirely remote, and we’re very open to candidates from anywhere in the US.
You should generally be available during our core working hours of 10am to 4pm ET
Hourly rate pay structure

You should have in-depth experience with:

All major qualitative and quantitative UX research methods, including usability testing, card sorts, tree tests, interviews, personas, heuristic evaluations, field studies, surveys and A/B testing
Identifying the most important research questions and the best research methods to answer them
Sketching, wireframing and prototyping across a wide range of industries and platforms — including plenty of mobile projects
Information architecture and interaction design
Developing UX strategies that align with business goals and KPIs
You should also have some experience — or at least interest — in other UX unicorn facets like visual design, content strategy, and front-end coding.

Beyond UX, we do lots of work in SEO/SEM, conversion rate optimization, and web analytics — and we take a holistic approach that connects these to our UX work. Bonus points if you have experience in these related areas.

In this role you will:

Focus on about 3 projects at a time yet gain exposure to all 10+ of our ongoing client projects — across travel, financial services, e-commerce, non-profit and health care
Define UX strategies and help identify the best research methods and tactics to support them; communicate frequently with clients and gain buy-in
Roll up your sleeves and do research and design for our biggest clients and most challenging projects
Give feedback and guidance on most of our UX research and design work — from recruiting screeners to card sort analysis to visual mocks
Collaborate daily with our project manager, other UXers, and marketers

Your 12-month performance review could look like this:

You increased by 75% the number of successful A/B experiments we run each month by integrating Lean UX techniques.
You created 12 best practice guides and led training sessions for clients on a variety of UX topics, from personas to IA research to mobile form usability.
You implemented a quarterly test-measure-iterate cycle for 5 clients, that combines research, design, A/B testing and analytics; this led to 8 great case studies.
You became an active, visible member of the UX community. You published in respected blogs and spoke at industry conferences and meetups. This led to 2 exciting new enterprise clients.
You helped overhaul our research and design workflows by introducing more collaborative techniques.

About us:

Our mission is to use software and analytics to bring transparency to the opaque world of jewelry, a $80b and growing market.

We acquired the domain name (Ice.com) a year ago (it is unrelated to the previous company).  What makes us unique vs. other jewelry e-commerce companies is that we're a marketplace - which means our capital goes towards building IP and acquiring/retaining users.

A few reasons why you should be interested in this opportunity:

  • The jewelry industry is a fragmented, $80B market (in the US alone), growing at 5%+ annually, that software has yet to disrupt.

  • You will be joining an awesome team led by Brandon Proctor (founding CMO of one of the largest e-commerce retailers, Build.com) and Justin Yoshimura (3x exits).

  • We are extremely data driven and technology/software is in our DNA. You won't be a second class citizen here, guaranteed.

  • We don't have time for assholes or politics.

  • Competitive compensation package including stock options in a high growth VC backed start-up (Crosslink, Maveron, Khosla, Quest, Polaris).

  • Small (17 person) and agile team.

What you'll be doing:

  • Owning front-end product design and development.

  • Writing clean, efficient, and well-documented code in HTML, CSS, Javascript.

  • A/B testing design changes to make sure the changes are not just beautiful, but also functional.

  • Learning and owning much of the a/b testing and targeting environment using Adobe target (best in class enterprise solution).

Skills and Requirements:

  • 2+ years of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and AJAX experience. Familiarity with Django preferred but not necessary.

  • Passionate about design.

  • Agile and experiment-driven.

  • Experience in design best practices but understanding that best practices don't always convert.

About You

You are a mature, intrinsically-motivated, well-rounded systems/data engineer, with a deep understanding of how to make infrastructure resilient and how to scalably process terabytes of data.

You have about 5 years of experience, possibly spanning both software development and systems engineering. You’re comfortable with Linux, managing public or private cloud infrastructure (e.g., AWS or Openstack), working with databases (e.g., MySQL or MongoDB), and processing reams of data with Hadoop (and associated tools around like Impala, Pig, Hive, or Oozie).

You love learning, and sharing what you’ve learned with others. You may have presented at a meetup or conference on some of the technologies listed above, or have contributed to an open source project.

About Next Big Sound

Launched in 2009, Next Big Sound is the leading provider of analytics and insights for the music industry. We merge tens of billions of data points (social media, press coverage, events) for hundreds of thousands of artists with our customers' proprietary sales and streaming data. We cover the majority of the global recorded music industry and use our data to forecast the next big selling artist. Next Big Sound powers the Social 50 and Next Big Sound charts for Billboard. As of July 2015, NBS is part of Pandora Media, Inc.

Curious about our interview process? We’ve open-sourced it.

Here's an overview of our technical architecture. We also regularly post what we’re working on on our blog and on Next Big Sound Labs.

Finally, here’s a fun video of our NYC office featuring some of your future Next Big Sound colleagues.

Mixpanel is the most advanced analytics platform for mobile & web. Our mission is to help the world learn from its data. We currently analyze over 30 billion actions every single month from our customers.

We are looking for a Senior Support Engineer who will take on the the trickiest technical issues our customers can come up with and delight them with her response. Our team is smart, bold, full of energy, and extremely passionate about genuinely helping people get their problems solved.

Mixpanel support isn’t your typical support organization. We see it as an engine of growth - every time a customer writes into support it is our job to make them absolutely nuts about our product. To achieve this we have built a team of smart, and high-energy people that are passionate about genuinely helping people to get their problems solved.

In the Senior Support Engineer Role, not only do you spend your day on interesting problems; you spend your day with interesting people. Your day-to-day includes working with our customers’ development teams to troubleshoot and solve thorny Mixpanel technical issues. These will be escalated to you by customer success managers, sales engineers, and account executives. Your job isn’t just to solve the problem, but to make sure the customer is delighted with your solution.

Additionally, you will be a technical leader for the customer facing teams at Mixpanel. You will be expected to help the rest of the organization “level up” by providing both formal and informal training and tutelage to folks at Mixpanel who want to become more technical.

For this role, we are interested in candidates who live in Europe, the Middle East, or Africa who want to working remotely, helping our customers in those time zones. Please note that we have a strong preference for this person to work from our European headquarters when it opens. As part of your training, you will initially be required to spend up to three months at our headquarters in San Francisco.

Expectations:

  • Graduated from college or university
  • Strong quantitative thinker who learns quickly
  • Proficient in at least one programming language (Python, Perl, PHP, bash, etc.)
  • Have built your own web or mobile app (success of the app is less important than the fact that you built it!)
  • Deep understanding of core web and mobile technologies, including JavaScript, HTML and HTTP
  • Good troubleshooting instincts and fearless when encountering new languages and frameworks.
  • Comfortable with ad hoc data manipulation
  • Confidence-inspiring when discussing internet security concepts
  • Proficient with at least one version control system, git of course is preferred
  • Have excellent writing skills - your friends tell you that you write well
  • You're extroverted and love talking to people - you're not shy to help our thousands of customers

    Financial Considerations:

  • Mixpanel has been profitable since Feb, 2012.
  • We've raised $12M from: Andreessen Horowitz, Sequoia Capital, Max Levchin, Michael/Xochi Birch, Keith Rabois, Marc Benioff, and David Sacks.

    Culture

Throughout the interview process, a common question we get is: "So, what's Mixpanel's culture like?"

  • Data driven - we're an analytics company and so we live and breathe by what the numbers tell us. We try to measure everything - it's who we are!
  • Transparency - we strive to be really open and upfront with how we build our company. For example, the whole company knows how much revenue we make at any time.
  • Speed is really important at Mixpanel. Being fast is an essential part of every experience at Mixpanel: from building products to finding solutions to customer problems to responding to potential new hires.
  • Customer experience - our hope is to have the best customer support experience in the world. We'll do anything for our customers.
  • Geeky - we're geeky people so don't be surprised when you come in.
  • Education - we believe a big reason people quit their jobs is because they've stopped learning. Our goal is to provide resources for people in our company to keep challenging themselves and to be able to learn new things every day.

Mixpanel is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer supporting workforce diversity.

A note on robustness. The code should properly handle changes in design, layout or structure on any of the sources. In other words, it should work properly when and if any of the websites above completely change their design. For example, if Airbnb chooses not to break down their jobs by departments but display all of them on one page. Or, otherwise, if Snapchat chooses to have a separate URL for each team. Even minor errors are not acceptable. All the fields should be properly identified.
A note on scalability. The system should be easily scalable and should handle millions of job postings without any bugs or slowdown in performance.
If interested, please, respond with:
  1. Total project cost and following breakdowns:
    1. Project cost if only job boards are used for scraping (corporate job websites are not used)
    2. Project cost without tagging
    3. Project cost without checking for duplicates (but using both job boards and corporate websites)
    4. And other variables that you think are relevant and influence the cost
  2. Proposed payment terms
  3. Proposed timelines and milestones
  4. Any other additional information that is needed on our end
  5. Examples of relevant previous projects

VERY IMPORTANT: To separate you from the spammers, please write I AM REAL as the first line of your bid. We will delete all bids that do not start with this phrase, since most bidders never read the requirements. Thank you for being one who does.

Clearly communicate complex technical and product issues to non-technical team members, clients, etc.
  • Bonus points for experience implementing machine learning algos on GPU's or other hardware acceleration!

Our stack combines leading commercial and open source technologies with numerous home-grown innovations, including:

About us:

Our mission is to use software and analytics to bring transparency to the opaque world of jewelry, a $80b and growing market.

We acquired the domain name (Ice.com) a year ago (it is unrelated to the previous company).  We also don't take any inventory because we're a marketplace - which means our capital goes towards building IP and acquiring/retaining users.

What we'd like to see:

  • True, full-stack engineers with 2+ years of production experience in Python/Django or Node.js strongly preferred.
  • Strong foundation in computer science, with competencies in data structures, algorithms, databases, software design and dev ops.
  • Work experience with relational databases and SQL.
  • Experience with agile development process in collaborative environment.
  • BS in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or Physics OR 4 years of relevant work experience.
  • Good understanding of performance tradeoffs.

Bonus Points:

  • We are currently using Magento, an open source e-commerce platform built in Zend PHP - yuck), but we are building a new, badass e-commerce platform in Django, Angular.js, Node.js and integrating it with Netsuite's order management tools (no need to re-invent the entire wheel, after all). Related experience is a plus.
  • if you have an awesome Github repo, open source contributions, or a cool project you can demo, please cut to the front of the line...

Responsibilities:

As a member of our small but seriously talented engineering team, you will play a key role in both shaping and building our technologies. Your scope will be broad, ranging from user-facing features to server-side components and libraries. We are looking for a generalist who enjoys learning and working with different technologies. And of course you will be expected to commit code on your first day.

*This job description is not meant to be an all-inclusive list of duties and responsibilities, but constitutes a general definition of the position's scope and function in the company.

About the Position:

The ideal candidate will be familiar with working in a Linux environment (and able to use the appropriate tools), needs to be fluent with C++ (C++03 is great; familiarity with C++11/14 is a bonus) and have experience with test-driven development. Familiarity with Python and other web API technologies would be a bonus.

We are constantly innovating new features that require analysis of petabytes of data. That requires us to think of distributed scalable solutions, so we are always looking for those candidates who can think outside the box but still understand the inherent costs and complexities of distributed systems.

We are also working on different ways of visualizing (via the browser) the state of the overall system to help analyze failure scenarios and develop tools to preemptively spot potential problem states before they become critical.

The team as a whole is actively involved in development on HBase and Hadoop and feed patches back to the community. There are potential opportunities to become involved in this core work on this bleeding edge technology stack.

About the System:

There are four parts to our main indexing service:

  1. Sorting and prioritizing 200 billion URLs into a schedule
  2. Crawling the generated schedule and processing individual pages
  3. Processing the crawled pages and building and inverse link graph: 1,000,000,000,000 links
  4. Serving the inverse link graph via an API

Each of these systems is a distributed parallel system running in the cloud (We had to throw "cloud" in here somewhere :-) ) that runs on multiple nodes: 10 nodes for part 1, 20 nodes for part 2, 40 Nodes for part 3, and 8 nodes for part 4. We use a custom-built DB as the interface between these four systems.

The code is written in C++ (Parts 1-3) and Python (Part 4), with a deployment system built with Bash.

    Qualifications:

    Required:

    • BS in Computer Science
    • Or a great reason for not having one, and believe us, there are plenty
    • Experience with Linux/Unix environment (you can handle the shell, preferably bash)
    • Experience with C++03
    • Experience with Python
    • At least 2 years of relevant industry experience

      Nice to Have:

    • MSc/PhD in Computer Science
    • Experience with Java
    • Experience with scripting languages Ruby/Node/Bash
    • Experience with C++11 or C++14
    • More than 5 years of relevant industry experience
    • Experience debugging multi-threaded/multi-process/distributed applications
    • Experience using one or more DB technologies in a production environment
    • SQL is nice
    • NoSQL is very nice
    • Knowledge of web services; experience utilizing and creating APIs
    • Knowledge of BigTable/Hadoop/HBase

We are looking for a positive, independent, self-starting, Internet-loving people-person to join our Help Team as the first Helpster in the UK! Do your customers rave about how awesome your help is? Can you work from anywhere on your own and be more productive than Wall-E? Could you explain the Theory of Relativity to 5th graders? Whether you’re a tabletop junkie or you run your own knitting circle online, you just might be the right geek for the job!

About the position:

The Seattle based Moz Help Team needs an operative in the UK (the CIA and MI6 have always worked closely)! Your primary role involves using email and chat to answer customers’ questions about everything from billing problems to product features. You’ll be a lone wolf across the Atlantic, so you’ll need to be comfortable flying solo and able to work from home (or anywhere you feel most productive!). You’ll need to communicate with your stateside team via email, chat, or self destructive message. You’ll also spend a lot of time problem-solving for customers by reproducing their bugs and writing up reports about them for our engineering and product teams.

Requirements:

  • While you’ll be collaborating with your team overseas you’re independent, and are able to work alone and get a ton done.
  • You don’t need to be micromanaged. You work with your manager to cook up projects, set your deadlines, and do exceptional work without close oversight. Rather than waiting for someone else to take action, you do what it takes to get customer’s issues resolved. You learn things as you go and are open to constantly changing as our tools and business operations evolve.
  • You’ll be our only Helpster in the UK, so you’ll need to have excellent written communication skills to communicate with the rest of the Team here in Seattle via email, or chat!
You will never be bored. By understanding our customers’ needs and working closely with the engineering, product, and marketing teams, you will help us build high quality, delightful products. Shiny!
  • You'll be working across many different platforms: Firefox, Chrome, Safari, IE, Windows and OSX.
  • You will help drive strategy to make the customer service team more efficient and scalable as our customer base continues to grow.
  • You are creative and passionate about analyzing trends and optimizing business processes.
  • Experience in customer service and/or technical support roles is imperative
  • Lastly, you’re the type of person that doesn’t get easily discouraged. The glass is always half full, and despite tough times and hard problems, you never let customer pain get you down. If you can have hard conversations with customers, spend an hour researching and replicating a nasty bug, and still have a smile on your face at the end of the day, we’re made for each other!

    Responsibilities:

  • Provide support to our customers and prospective customers via email, live chat, webinars, forums, etc.
  • Advocate for our customers by thoroughly documenting their issues and sending reports to our engineering and product teams.
  • Identify and propose ways we can make our company better, our customers happier, and our jobs easier.
  • Create joy and happiness for everyone involved with Moz, including team members, vendors, and customers.
  • Communicate with team members in the Seattle office via email, chat, and phone.
  • Use your HTML, CSS, programming, copywriting, or other unique skills to initiate projects that improve the customer experience.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills. There will be a test!
  • Infectious positive attitude with other team members and customers.
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve conflicts quickly and creatively.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Independent thinker with the ability to recognize where processes can be improved and who to collaborate with to improve them.
  • Superior analytical skills and problem-solving ability.
  • Experience writing bug reports or other technical documents.
  • Intermediate knowledge of inbound marketing, search engine optimization and HTML.
  • Passionate about technology and the Internet.
  • Experience with customer service software like Intercom, Zendesk, Zuora, Authorize.net, Google Apps, MS Office, Box.net, Docusign, and/or similar applications is a plus.
  • Experience with Google Analytics, any CMS, and other web/production/analysis tools a big plus.

Front End Designer Developer

UpHex

2yr

Apply

UpHex is a tiny, nascent SaaS company that helps marketing agencies monitor analytics for their clients.

We're completely bootstrapped with a current runway of about 18 months, though we plan to seek seed funding at some point. In August 2014 we also won a $50,000 grant from the state of Virginia's Commonwealth Research and Commercialization Fund. We don't yet charge our users anything during this trial phase, but we'd like to do so (very) soon.

We're currently in the middle of a pilot with a few hundred brave customers. In total, they're sending us about 1,250,000 data points per day across a number of connected Twitter, Shopify, Facebook, and Google Analytics accounts. At the moment, we can effectively use only a fraction of that data. We need to make the interface we expose to users more usable before we can do some of the things we want to do.

That's where you come in.

About the role

We're looking for a front-end designer to help us build this platform. We're looking for someone who has a passion for software development, loves making things work well, and who thrives in a high-impact, low-ceremony startup environment.

In general, you would be responsible for:

designing and building component-based, reusable, modular designs for web, mobile, and e-mail user-agents
constructing new components and helping us solve difficult design problems
presenting information in a clear, effective, and straightforward way
writing SCSS, Haml, and very occasionally JavaScript
The initial project is to redesign our prototype administrative backend and to develop a design vocabulary of components we can use in other contexts on our site. From there, we'd like to work further with you on a number of other projects -- designing new interfaces for features we want to build, implementing ways of showing large amounts of relevant information, and others in the pipeline.

This is a contract position that pays US$450 per day. Generally we'd expect you to work 2-3 weekdays per week and to have some time overlap with US ET (UTC-4/-5), but we otherwise care much more about the results you deliver than the hours you spend. We prefer that people work when they want to, not when a clock tells them to, so you don't need to keep track of your time other than to tell us how many days you worked in a particular week.

Our technology

We generally place a high premium on architectural and code simplicity, and try to minimize complexity at all levels.

Our styles are a small custom theme built on top of Bootstrap 3 and Flatty, written in SCSS; the pages are in Haml and pipelines to HTML.

We run a Padrino stack on Cloud66 and DigitalOcean. ActiveRecord 4 is used for the small number of models that interact with the database directly. The datastore is Postgresql 9.3; we also use Redis to store jobs for Resque.

The architecture is likewise fairly simple: there's one load balancer, two web servers, one process server, and one Postgresql database. Our codebase is small right now, clocking in at around 1,500 lines including all models, controllers, and services.

You can run all the tests (RSpec and Rubocop) with a single command, and you can deploy to production or any other environment with a single command.

About you

You:

  • are comfortable working with a remote team
  • are comfortable using tools like Google Hangout and Flowdock to collaborate with teammates
  • enjoy one of XKCD, SMBC, Model View Culture, or PBF
  • are a fan of DRY, STTCPW, and YAGNI

Your technical experience includes most or all of the following:

  • proficiency with SCSS, Haml, CSS3, and JavaScript
  • fluency and experience with writing modular, composable, reusable (S)CSS
  • ability to leverage your design experience in the context of an information-heavy application
  • constructing interactive components, controls, or interface elements
  • you understand and can use git to make commits on topic branches

    Bonus points if:

  • you can point to public commits you've made on a project you like
  • you have written an interesting technical blog post, essay, rant, etc. that you can link to
  • you have worked at a startup before

    How to apply

If you think you'd be a good fit, we'd love to hear from you! (Please, no recruiters or agencies -- individuals only.) To apply, send an e-mail to tech-team+github@uphex.com that includes the following info:

  • the URLs for two companies or projects that you've previously worked on, along with a short description of what you did there and when
  • the URL of the most interesting thing you've read, listened to, or watched lately, along with a short description of why it's interesting to you
  • the URL of a commit that you made to a public project, or a commit that you think is particularly interesting

Please also include at least two of:

  • any public web presence (blog, portfolio site, Dribbble profile, et cetera)
  • your GitHub or Bitbucket account URL
  • your StackOverflow user profile URL
  • your LinkedIn profile URL
  • your Twitter handle

    Please don't send a resume. We're not hiring a PDF -- we're hiring you!

We promise to be in touch within one business day. If you have any questions, we invite you to talk directly to John Feminella, our CTO. His e-mail is @uphex.com (but use tech-team+github@uphex.com once you're ready to apply).

We look forward to hearing from you!

Who You Are

We're looking for a full-time backend Rails developer to help build and maintain our social media management tool, Edgar. Edgar launched less than a year ago and has thousands of paying customers that will use the features you build every day. We’re growing ~20% month on month. (No pressure, right?)

You’ll be working on big, exciting projects like optimizing our Sidekiq queuing system to work JIT, creating an intelligent scheduler (analyze users’ data and figure out when they should be sending social media updates out), and migrating our customer analytics code to use a middle layer like segment.io. You’ll also have shared responsibility for choosing and mentoring a junior dev or two, Obi-Wan Kenobi-style.

(We have a dedicated, amazing, devilishly handsome front end Rails dev on the team - who totally didn’t write this listing or anything - so it’s ok if you’re not super comfortable with the front end stuff. You’ll be the go-to person for the backend stories, with the confidence and experience to back that up.)

Our stack is Rails 4, Ruby 2.1, Heroku, Postgres, Sidekiq + Redis, HAML, Coffeescript and React.js.

Our Dev Process

We do a fair amount of pair programming and a lot of code reviews, we love solid tests and CI, and we’re moving toward CD as quickly as we can. Basically? We’re constantly improving our process so we can create an ideal developer environment - low overheads, high transparency, and as flat as we can be. Estimates were inaccurate and irrelevant, so we dropped ‘em. Artificial deadlines weren’t doing it for us, so we switched from scrum to pure kanban and never looked back. When something isn’t working, we’re not afraid to throw it out and try something new - so if you have exciting ideas about the dev process and how to make your own job even easier, you’ll fit right in.

We’re striving for a flat organisation, so you’ll be choosing your own priorities from incoming stories (with support from customer service, marketing, and the rest of the company, of course). You’ll also have final responsibility for features, from inception all the way through to delivery, so your teammates know exactly who to shower with praise when you score a big win.

Benefits

We cover 75% of your health insurance for you and your family. We do 401k matching. We’re really into ongoing education, so of course we’ll cover any education materials you need to enhance your mad skills. (Right now we’re looking into using airplay.com to get some external pair programming in, too, so that’s cool.) We don’t have a fancy espresso machine or free beer on Fridays. We will pay you enough to be able to buy all the beer and espresso you like.

About Us

We’re a small team of 10 people, all working remotely across the US. We do a lot of collaborating and meme-swapping on HipChat, along with virtual team meetings on the regular and a twice-annual meetup week where we work together on cool projects all day and generally make fools of ourselves all night. We’re proudly bootstrapped and profitable, which means we get to turn down VC money a lot and keep doing things the way we like. We’re big fans of the Thoughbot Playbook. Oh, and doughnuts! We love those, too, man.

Requirements

  • You have senior level backend Rails skills and 3 years+ experience
  • You live anywhere in the USA or Canada
  • You love Ruby and you love Rails
  • You are passionate about improving the dev process and recognize the value of an awesome company culture

Recently, the world has figured out what we at Joyent have known for a long time: that operating system containers are the future of elastic infrastructure. While this future has become clear to many, its essential implication remains elusive: that in an all-container world, the old abstraction of the virtual machine becomes prohibitively confining -- a suffocating skeuomorph that incarcerates infrastructure in the past.

At Joyent, we believe in containers to our marrow -- and that the transition to native container infrastructure presents opportunities to fundamentally rethink computing, networking and storage systems. We are looking for more people like us: systems generalists who love to cut code -- software engineers who are afraid of neither the biggest of problems nor the grittiest details, who are comfortable in every stage of the software design and implementation process, and who find gratification in seeing their work available as open source. We're seeking engineers who are able to move up and down the stack: at any given time, we may find ourselves debugging a nasty device firmware bug, rewriting a portion of the operating system kernel, instrumenting the networking stack, debugging a virtual machine or interpreter, or developing code for a distributed system to allow containers to be understood or managed -- perhaps all in the same day or as part of the same problem. We expect that you have detailed knowledge of a favorite language, tool or system, but that you are also able to quickly pick up new ones as needed. And while implementation experience is essential, enthusiasm and interest can trump experience; we are willing to take a chance on someone who wants to step up.

We have immediate job opportunities in both downtown San Francisco and Vancouver (both close to mass transit) -- and we are remote-friendly in the US and Canada for those who have a track record of contributing to our open source communities (or who otherwise have a proven ability to work remotely). We are a growing company that appreciates the value of talent -- in terms of things both big (we offer highly competitive salary and excellent benefits) and small (your ACM membership dues are on the house). Join us in forging the containerized future of elastic infrastructure!

7 Cups of Tea (S 2013) is looking for a Lead Product/UI/UX Designer. In this role, you will lead our team in creating simple and intuitive interfaces for our Web and mobile products.

About 7 Cups

Mental health is in a state of crisis. One in four adults suffers from mental illness in a given year, and it is the leading cause of disability in the United States. Sadly, many people never seek help due to the stigma and expense surrounding therapy and other forms of care.

7 Cups of Tea (7 Cups) addresses this problem by using technology to bring compassion and a loving, listening ear into our communities:

  • 7 Cups graduated from the Y Combinator incubator in Silicon Valley in 2013. We are a peer to peer emotional support system. Whenever someone is feeling depressed or lonely, they can get anonymous emotional support from trained active listeners on 7 Cups to feel better. They can use it whenever they want—it’s available on-demand, 24/7, worldwide.
  • Over 100,000 people from 158 countries (in 130 different languages) use the platform each week. We have helped over 2,000,000 people.
  • 7 Cups has partnered with Active Minds, Tumblr, and other high profile companies and non-profits.
  • 7 Cups is backed by the best and brightest investors (firms and many Y Combinator partners).

    About the Position

Our work environment is one where you will experience autonomy, mastery, and purpose. We need your big brain engaged, challenged, and solving hard user experience problems. Your work will directly impact the emotional well-being of millions of people. Please read these app reviews and ask yourself if you’d like to play a key role in helping us create the future of mental health.

For consideration, you should have an outstanding portfolio of successful products that highlight UX, UI, and IA skills.

    REQUIREMENTS

  • Exceptional visual and user-focused design skills with an eye for detail
  • 3+ years of experience designing simple and intuitive user interfaces
  • Ability to transform design and interaction ideas into wireframes and pixel-perfect Photoshop mockups
  • Keen sense of typography, color, imagery, and graphics
  • Expertise with analytics tools like mixpanel. Ability to formulate hypotheses and daily track data to see if hypotheses are confirmed or disconfirmed.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop UX processes, deliverables, and standards.

  • Conceptualize, design, and prototype new features and products
  • Work directly with our engineers to bring products from idea to executional

  • Customer experience - our hope is to have the best customer support experience in the world. We'll do anything for our customers.
  • Geeky - we're geeky people so don't be surprised when you come in.
  • Education - we believe a big reason people quit their jobs is because they've stopped learning. Our goal is to provide resources for people in our company to keep challenging themselves and to be able to learn new things every day.

Technology isn’t the answer to questions of poverty, public health, education, and the environment, but it shouldn’t be the problem. The current landscape is disjointed and it’s prohibitively difficult for most NGOs to turn promising technologies into better decisions. We’re building an AppStore and data-integration platform that helps social-impact organizations find, connect, and successfully implement key technologies. openFn is a non-profit, open-source project that's funded both by forward thinking foundations and revenue from our integration product.
