About Collage.com

Collage.com's mission is to make custom products easy for everyone. We strive to do this by providing superior software and excellent customer service.Collage.com is a 100% employee-owned, profitable, bootstrapped company with about 50 employees that has rapidly grown from $0 to $25 million in annual revenue since 2013.  We sell an expanding variety of photo and home products, including photo blankets, photo books, canvases, pillows, and more. Collage.com has appeared more than a dozen times on ABC's 'Good Morning America' and three times on 'The View.' We've also appeared multiple times on the 'TODAY Show,' along with mentions in BuzzFeedMashableAARP: The Magazine, the Associated Press, and more. We are seeking ambitious, nice individuals to join us in our quest to bring great custom products to the world.

Our development team is set up to empower individuals. The less time you spend dealing with cumbersome processes and inefficient systems, the more time you have to solve problems and make an impact. We believe in staying at the forefront of best practices so that we can focus on work that matters. We pass almost all of The Joel Test (we only fix high-priority bugs before writing new code, but hey, we're a start-up), follow the best practices for continuous deployment (anything that is merged following a pull request goes straight to production), and have implemented a declarative unidirectional data flow system (like Flux, but on steroids) for our most complex logic. Difficult projects with extensive cascading data dependencies take days instead of months, allowing us to provide best-in-class design tools and iterate more quickly than our competitors with much larger development teams. Learn more about developing software at Collage.com.

We're 100% remote

Collage.com is a 100% remote company, with employees working together in states across the country. Last year, our remote work culture was profiled in a case study by the Harvard Business School (we are the first all-remote company they profiled). The entire company meets together in person twice a year in Ann Arbor, Michigan (all expenses paid) to get to know each other and work on strategy. Learn more in an op-ed our co-founder Kevin Borders wrote for MLive.com.

The Job

We are seeking a senior-level front-end software engineer who can independently implement complex front end features by writing clean, simple code. Join us as we create software that helps customers design and purchase custom products with ease. You'll be part of a small team of engineers who are passionate about building a great product and constantly challenging themselves to improve. Our lean approach to software development means your work will have a large impact on the business.

Responsibilities

  • Write and maintain front end JavaScript code. Implement new responsive UIs, iterate on existing features, fix bugs, and refactor code when appropriate.
  • Write technical specifications that describe, at an appropriate level, how you will implement new features in our code base.
  • Review code written by other engineers.
  • Review technical specifications written by other engineers.
  • Help other developers, especially junior developers, when you are able.
  • Communicate effectively with product managers and other engineers.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years professional web application development experience
  • Experience working with and independently implementing advanced JavaScript code, including asynchronous logic and object-oriented design patterns
  • Practical experience with MV* architecture  (such as Backbone, React + Flux / Redux, etc.), unidirectional data flow, and minimal class/object interfaces
  • Spatial/geometric reasoning ability -- for basic rendering, animation, and image manipulation
  • Ability to quickly understand and work with code having a high degree of inherent complexity
  • Strong communication skills are essential for this remote work position

Benefits and Perks

  • Working from home makes it easier to focus on results and develop professionally while spending less time commuting. (See our opinion piece on perks and work-life balance at mlive.com.)
  • 401(k) plan, home internet reimbursement, and $3,000 / year in free Collage.com products plus employee discount for friends and family.
  • Collage.com pays 100% of the premium for full health, vision and dental insurance coverage for you and your family in a high-quality Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO plan.
  • Flexible work schedule and unlimited vacation policy (work hard and take time when you need it).
  • We'll pay for any computer and home office equipment (within reason) that will help you work better.

The Interview Process

We are committed to providing a transparent interview process and making offers to qualified people who will be a great fit for our team. We've found that the best way to identify qualified candidates is to ask people to demonstrate their skills directly.

All interviews are conducted over the phone. Here's what to expect from each step of the interview process:

  1. Application questionnaire - Your answers to the questions in this application matter! The team lead screens all applications and reads every answer carefully.
  2. Screening interview (30 min to 1 hour) - You will speak with an engineer who will ask you to write some code that is typical of the work we do on a daily basis. You will also have the opportunity to ask any questions you have about the team and the company.
  3. Take-home assignment - This replaces an on-site interview. You will be given a 3 to 4 hour take-home assignment reflective of actual work in this position, which you can work on at your reasonable convenience. The assignment will be reviewed by a senior engineer.
  4. Second interview (1 hour) - General interview with the team lead.
  5. Third interview (1 hour) - General interview with another senior engineer on the team.
  6. Fourth interview (1 hour) - You will speak with Kevin Borders, co-founder and co-CEO.
  7. Fifth interview (1 hour) - You will speak with Joe Golden, co-founder and co-CEO.

We move candidates through the interview process as expeditiously as possible.

About the role

We’re looking for a designer to take a leadership role in our company, instilling a design culture in our business and setting a high bar for design across our products. You’ll have broad responsibility for UI across our current and future products.
Things you’ll do along the way:
  • Design intuitive, beautiful interfaces for web and mobile
  • Work with product managers to shape ideas and set direction for the company
  • Work with a multidisciplinary team including another designer, user researchers, developers, and product managers to deliver the best possible experience for our customers
  • Build an updated visual language for Collage.com including web, email, and advertising
  • Share and revise your designs based on UX research and peer feedback
  • Ensure the Collage.com Design Team is staying up-to-date on best practices and evolving with latest design trends

About you

Must haves
  • This is a senior role. You have 6+ years of industry experience.
  • You’ve navigated difficult trade-offs to ship stuff you’re proud of.
  • Proficiency with current design tools - Sketch, Illustrator, Photoshop, whatever. We don’t care what you use, but you do.
  • You’re driven and proactive. We’re 100% remote and small enough that everyone has a lot of responsibility. We need folks that can be do their best work in this environment.
  • Focus on outcomes. A successful design isn’t something that just looks pretty - it’s something that accomplishes a goal. You don’t consider something done until you’ve seen its impact.

Nice to have
  • Leadership experience. Strength in leading, mentoring, and coaching an interface and product design team - we’re growing quickly and look for folks that can step up into leadership roles.
  • Ecommerce fluency
  • Able to implement your designs with expert-level HTML and CSS knowledge (we use SASS, handlebars and a lot of canvas)
  • A knack for words - you can tell a joke and write the copy used in your designs
  • Not a jerk. Leave your ego at the door. Just kidding, this isn’t optional.

About us

Our mission at Collage.com is to make custom products easy for everyone. We sell an expanding variety of printed products ranging from photo books and canvas prints to pillows and phone cases. We’ll sell you a blanket with your face on it if that’s what you’re into.

Collage.com is a four year old success story. Bootstrapped and still 100% employee owned, we’ve grown to over 25MM in annual revenue since 2013 and we’re still growing rapidly. We’re still scrappy, but we’re stable enough to provide benefits like a great health plan and 401K program.

We’re 100% remote. We’re pretty great at using Slack and do our best to keep folks connected with twice-annual company retreats. That said, working remote isn’t for everyone. If you haven’t worked remotely and are unsure if it’s for you, we’d be open to a contract-to-hire arrangement.

We don’t take ourselves too seriously. You’re not going to have to deal with politics or other nonsense. Ain’t nobody got time for that.

How to apply

Fill out the application linked below. It’s pretty straightforward and hopefully fun. Applications without portfolios will not be considered.

What to expect:

  • If we like your portfolio, we’ll set up a call. (We’ll get back to you within a week either way.)
  • Screening interview (30min - 1 hour) - you’ll speak with a senior member of the team to assess general fit and mutual interest
  • A take-home assignment that isn’t asking for free work
  • Several online interviews with people you’ll be working with, including our CEO

Let’s chat.

  • Engage in dynamic working environments to connect with Wikimedia colleagues throughout the world.

  • Other duties as needed.

Deliverables:

  • Regular coordination with the Communications & Outreach Project Manager and Community Engagement team members.

Hi there. We are Fieldboom. Nice to meet you. We create beautifully simple software that helps marketers collect, organize and manage feedback and leads.

Right now we’re looking for a talented senior frontend developer to join our small, distributed team as a 40-hour-per-week contractor with the potential to move into a full-time, salaried role in about 12 months. You’ll be one of the first 10 people to join our company and you’ll work directly with our founders to have a direct hand in how our product is designed and built.

We are bootstrapped, love building beautiful software and everyone who works on the product has years (and years) of experience building their own software companies - so we know what it takes to 1) build great software, 2) communicate effectively and 3) create an amazing company culture.

While our team is small, we don’t wing it. We write tests, perform code reviews and also pair program regularly. We write elegant, self-documenting code, because we know that one day someone else might need to update our code - and we want to make their job easy.

We manage everything using Trello and don’t use burn down charts to estimate our workload (we prefer t-shirt sizing - it’s more accurate). We keep process and overhead to an absolute minimum so you can do more of what you love - building great software.

You’ll have end-to-end responsibility for everything you create, so you should be self-organized and self-motivated. There are zero micro managers here.

Our product was built as an API-first SaaS platform on Amazon, so you should also be very familiar consuming a RESTful API on the frontend.

Additionally, you should have:

- 3+ years of solid experience as a frontend developer
- Previous experience creating Single-Page Applications (SPA)
- Professional experience with React + Redux
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience working as a part of a team either as a freelancer or remote employee
- A positive mindset and an insatiable desire to keep learning and improving
- SCSS, Jest and Docker are optional but a huge plus

Why you’ll love it here:

- Help us build software that will positively impact hundreds of thousands of people in the future
- Work from wherever you want (4 hour timezone overlap with west coast is all we ask)
- We use tools you love, like Slack, Trello and Github and avoid email like the plague
- Join a team of seasoned SaaS founders with 20+ years combined experience
- We invest in your learning to keep you growing as both a person and developer
- Our culture is a combination of hard work but is also fun/goofy (we use a lot of giphys)
- We are bootstrapped and never have to answer to investors or shareholders

Our Product

We are building an address book for the 21st century. Digital address books are broken. Just like old paper versions, in 2017 everyone still manages their own contact list. When friends change their numbers, you have to update them on your phone. When you change your phone number you have to manually tell everyone. If you are travelling and have a temporary SIM card you may be uncontactable. If you're like us, you have lots of numbers in your address book and can't remember exactly who they belong to. You have no idea who has your contact information.

About Us

We are a stealth mode startup working on solving these problems. Our aim is to launch our first product in the summer of 2017. We are funded by a successful serial entrepreneur. We are working remotely with team members based in Cambridge, UK and Berlin, Germany.

The Role

You will join our team as our first Product Designer. You will take the lead in crafting the user experience, working collaboratively with the rest of the team to deliver a quality product.

This is a remote role, and you will need to be available during European working hours. There may be some occasional travel to London. Initially this role is a contract/freelance position, with the possibility of becoming full time later this year. We are open to candidates who can work between 3 and 5 days per week.

What We're Looking For

  • A proven track record of user interface design, across a number of products that have been used by different demographics
  • Experience with prototyping and taking a product from the idea stage through to launch and beyond
  • Experience working with agile methodologies and collaborating with a software development team to release regularly and iterate on your designs
  • Ability to take the product's mission, user research and analytics data and translate into clear, simple UIs
  • Tenacity and the willingness to change your design based on learnings from real users
  • Strong knowledge of current UX best practices, including user research and accessibility across mobile and web

How do you apply?

Who Are We?

MemberSuite, Inc. is a web-based, enterprise Software Service (SaaS) company based in Atlanta, GA. With over 20 modules, our software powers the back office processes for more than 100 medium and large associations and non-profits, providing order processing, member self-service, and e-marketing. We believe firmly in the future of cloud computing and it’s inevitability; we believe every enterprise software market will be disrupted by a well architected, service-oriented, extensible SaaS solution, and the world’s market of 3.8 million non-profits are no exception.  We believe in world domination – or go home.

What Do We Need?

We are looking for extremely bright, experienced engineers who love the idea of building something new! We are on the cutting edge, utilizing the Amazon Web Services platform along with the Angular2 framework to redesign our entire interface from scratch. We're giving it a modern makeover based on user testing and feedback. If that excites you – if the ability to build the industry’s first app store, or to build a mobile platform from the ground up gets you all warm and fuzzy – then you’re in the right place.

Requirements:

  • Familiar with one of the following JS frameworks (ie. Angular 2, AngularJS, React, Knockout, Ember, Node)

  • Passionate about working with new tools (Slack, Zeplin, High Five, your favorite plugins, etc) and spreading knowledge about new ones to make life easier

Nice to haves

  • 5+ years of software development on a single page app/with JS frameworks

  • Experience building an app from scratch

  • Angular 2!!

  • Node/Lambda

  • Experience with mobile first design through a framework like bootstrap/foundation

  • Test driven development with karma jasmine mocha protractor

  • Experience with Rest API

  • Experience working closely with UX

What makes you, the ideal candidate; the right person to join our company?

You see, the right candidate – that candidate that will have a blast at our company – hates working on legacy systems, or being pigeon-holed into maintenance type jobs. The right candidate loves the opportunity to try out a new technology, or to work on a new feature, and then to be able to see how that features helps customers. The right candidate doesn’t want to be a cog in a machine; they want to drive the business forward. They want a stake in the company so that they can benefit from their hard work. They want to create something that didn’t exist before them, and feel the pride that comes from real people using it to make their jobs easier.

What You Will Get In Return

  • Catered lunches

  • Unlimited vacation days

  • Cool Equipment in house (3D printer, Segway, etc)

  • Ability to work from home

  • Casual dress all day, everyday

  • Unlimited snacks and drinks

Apply

Alley Interactive is a team of experienced developers, designers, and user experience architects who tackle the most complex challenges facing publishers, news organizations, and large-scale non-profit institutions.

As a User Experience (UX) Developer at Alley Interactive, you will be at the intersection of design, information architecture, and web development. You will work closely with our design team to translate the wireframes and visual palettes they produce into responsive prototypes in the browser, putting you on the front lines of an exciting and dynamic process of web product development.

Successful candidates should share our excitement about learning new tools, code and otherwise, for streamlining the design-to-development process and be passionate about sharing knowledge with collaborators, whether at Alley or on the open web. For this position, a desire to work on a team and move fluidly between interactions with designers, developers, and clients is essential. In addition, candidates will demonstrate strong skills in a range of front-end technologies and be knowledgeable concerning the processes of designing and developing for the responsive and semantic web. They will have a clear understanding of the importance and significance of component-based front-end architecture, and ability to implement, scale, and refactor front-end code based on that model.

Qualifications

  • You have a well-earned expert knowledge of semantic HTML5, and have dealt with related concerns like machine readability and accessibility.

  • You are fluent in CSS, and are comfortable with CSS preprocessors and front-end build systems like webpack or grunt (and with learning a new one when you need to).

  • You have a strong grasp on the underlying concepts in front-end development, such as the DOM and the box model, and like to think theoretically about human-computer interactions.

  • You believe in separating presentation and business logic, and you love creating clean, organized front-end templates to do it (in a variety of templating systems).

  • You know JavaScript and can build DOM manipulations using browser-native JS. You’re also comfortable with the ES6 standard and understand transpilers and deployment for it.

  • You’re familiar with front-end speed and performance concerns and you know common strategies to alleviate them.

  • You’re used to dealing with compatibility on a variety of devices, and checking your work systematically at different widths and breakpoints.

  • You should feel comfortable at a Unix command line, even if you aren't an expert.

  • You must know your way around git and understand version control well, and be able to carry out typical operations with it, including branching, merging, submitting code for peer review, and reviewing your peers’ code yourself.

  • We apply Scrum as a development methodology, and broadly endorse Agile as a philosophy. You should be open to working this way as well, and significant experience doing so before is a plus.

  • You should also have very strong written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to wield them with both team members and clients.

  • Discipline concerning delivery dates, stylistic appreciation of what makes code good and readable, and a positive attitude about documentation, tickets, and issue tracking, are all very important 'soft skills' for our developers to have.

Important: In order to be considered for the position, your application must include samples of code that you’ve written. With your code samples, explain the problems or goals the code was addressing, and describe how the code reflects your abilities and experience. We cannot consider applications without code samples.

When submitting your code, please provide links to specific files on GitHub/Bitbucket/GitLab/etc. or upload files using the application form. In your explanation, be sure to call attention to specific parts of the files if they are especially lengthy.

About Alley Interactive

We offer competitive salaries and company subsidized medical, dental and vision benefits. We also offer 401(k) with company matching, a profit sharing plan, and transportation and lunch benefits programs.

We have no set hours and do not limit vacation or sick time (but we require everyone to take a minimum of two weeks off). We trust our team members to get their work done and take the time off they need to recharge.

Alley Interactive was born in New York City, and we have an office in the Flatiron District of Manhattan. Our team members are free to work from the office, or out of their homes or a local coworking space. About a third of our team lives in the New York area, and the rest are spread around 18 other states and provinces (and counting).

At Xpand IT, everyone has a special talent. We value everyone’s talent in all fields. These are the people that are part of Xpand IT.

ABOUT THE JOB

We are looking for a superb Front-end Developer. But, more than just a Developer, we seek a Ninja Engineer in advanced Rich Interfaces.

We are looking for someone who is able to use agile methodologies to deliver high-quality and high-performance web application. Almost anyone can program with javascript but few are the ones that use it correctly in a structured manner. We don’t pretend to reinvent the wheel, so it’s important to know already some of the mainstream frameworks that already do some of the “hard stuff” such as Angular.js or React. It’s important to have some knowledge and concern about the final User experience (so many times neglected).

A typical day of a Frontend Developer will go from build component oriented and responsive web applications and, as a team member, work with designers and software engineers to ship highly visual products. The technical skills are important, but he should also value the soft skills. Present a proof of concept, discuss requirements with the team, set priorities and appropriate delivery time, being able to share knowledge with the team and produce quality documentation are skills we expect but we will also help to develop.

ABOUT THE POSITION

We’re looking for an experienced front-end developer who loves working on open-source projects, enjoys interacting with a community, and is capable of being the driving force behind some of our key open-source projects at Netlify.

You should love building tools for other developers, and enjoy the balance between polishing every little piece of UI on the one hand, and shipping at startup speed on the other.

Our core tools at Netlify are React and Redux with a dash of Webpack and a whiff of Babel, but it’s more important that you have a solid foundation as a developer and a good sense of architecture and clean code. Frameworks and tools come and go, but the fundamentals stay the same.

We’re based in San Francisco, and are looking for someone local, but we’re also open to remote employment for the right candidate.

OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE

  • Has a strong grasp of multiple programming languages, with a focus on modern JavaScript and its ecosystem
  • Has experience with React and Redux
  • Loves a Git-centric workflow with continuous deployment and solid tooling
  • Understands the internals of Git (how trees, commits, blobs, and references work and relate to one another)
  • Is unafraid of digging into new tools, frameworks, and platforms
  • Thrives in an environment where experimentation and failure are celebrated
  • Gives and receives feedback with regard for both emotional and technical concerns

    ABOUT THE COMPANY

The traditional approach to making websites is being disrupted by new technologies. Static site generators, build automation tools, and Git are leading the way.

Netlify has rolled all the services needed to take your code, build it, and host it on our CDN into a single automated platform. Creating modern, high performance websites and applications is simpler, cheaper, and more secure than ever.

We are devoted to building a team of people with different backgrounds and lifestyles. We eagerly invite applications from people of all kinds. We don’t discriminate against employees or applicants based on gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, religion, age, race, citizenship, pregnancy status, or any other differences whatsoever that folks imagine to discriminate against one another. If you have a disability, please do let us know what we can do to better accommodate you in our hiring process.

    WE OFFER

  • Equity
  • Competitive salary
  • Benefits for you and your dependents
  • Lunch, snacks, and drinks at the office
  • Your choice of equipment
  • A strong founding team with backgrounds at GitHub, Docker, Yelp, and more
  • A great office space in San Francisco’s Dogpatch
  • The opportunity to help us change the fundamental way sites have been made for the last 15 years

Imagine a place where your solutions make an impact on others on a daily basis, where you really like the people you work with, you love the projects you are working on (most days!), you are paid well, and are challenged to make things better not faster. Best of all you’ll have flexibility in your day so you can actually live your life. That is what you’ll find here. Come join us.

The right candidate will join a team of talented developers, creatives and marketers as we bring our subscription, cloud-based services to our customers.

From Times Square, to large shopping centers, gas pumps, retail locations and more screens are popping up everywhere you look.  Screenfeed is a highly thought of expert in delivering dynamic content that is displayed in these public screens. We need your help to continue leading this industry with innovation.

You will be asked to help us deliver engaging content built with HTML, Javascript and CSS to digital screens in these public places all over the world, including the Minneapolis light rail system.  You'll take animated designs from our creative team and bring them to life with Javascript while incorporating dynamic data.  A recent example is some content that runs on the streets of Chicago that plays a different message and animation based on if the Cubs won or lost, or a large screen in a mall putting a holiday theme on a photo a shopper uploaded to the screen.

To accomplish these projects you’ll need to have experience with many of the following:

  • Angular JS

  • JavaScript

  • Greensock

  • Konva

  • CSS

  • HTML

We are one of the fastest-growing private companies in Minnesota (#35 on MN Fast 50) and in the country (listed for 3 years on Inc 5000). Our client list includes the legendary Prince, MN Twins, Best Buy, Play It Again Sports, Six Flags theme parks, Wells Fargo, the Pentagon and many other small businesses we love.

Learn more about our company at http://screenfeed.com/careers

We’re searching for the best developer we can find and thus are open to various experience levels and salary ranges. If the above sounds wonderful to you, please contact us and tell us how you’d be able to help our company.

Other things you may find interesting…

  • After your first year we offer two airline tickets to someplace you have not been - every year!

  • We have a Segway and bikes you can take on the greenway to lunch

Bigscreen is powered by a traditional web tech stack. In fact, the Bigscreen UI is actually built with HTML, CSS, and Javascript (here's an example of the Bigscreen VR UI) using frameworks like Bootstrap and jQuery. If you've worked on web front-ends, you’ll feel right at home at Bigscreen.

As a front-end developer, you'll work on both 2D user interfaces as well as cutting-edge VR user interfaces. Much of the VR interface reuses these HTML UI components, but some are native UI elements built in Unity.

We're looking for front-end web developers with strong programming skills and a strong design background.

Prior experience with VR and Unity3D is not required.

About Bigscreen

Founded in 2014, Bigscreen is a California-based technology company creating an immersive virtual reality telepresence platform that aims to revolutionize the way people work, play, hangout, and collaborate. Since its beta launch in March 2016, it has become one of the most popular and highly rated VR apps. Power users spend 20-30 hours per week in Bigscreen, making it one of the most widely used "killer apps" in the industry.

Join us and help design the future of computing and collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Prototype, design, and develop front-end UI (HTML/CSS/JS) for new features in the Bigscreen app
  • Prototype and iterate on new VR UI (Unity, C#) in order to make Bigscreen the best collaborative, productive, and immersive computing application
  • Work on user-facing web, mobile, and desktop apps to allow users on more platforms to interact and communicate with others in Bigscreen, just as Slack/Skype/Discord have apps on every major platform

    Required Skills

  • Several years of experience designing and developing web or mobile products
  • Strong background in UI/mobile/web design and development
  • Several years of experience with front-end development (HTML, CSS, Javascript) using Bootstrap, jQuery and/or React
  • Several years of experience with design tools (Photoshop, Sketch, etc.)
  • Experience with web backends, HTTP REST APIs, and real time & reactive web apps
  • Good communication skills in English
  • Good project management skills
  • Great at working independently and collaboratively on small teams

    Bonus Skills

  • Experience building and designing VR apps, games, and interaction design
  • Experience designing and developing in Unity and C#
  • Some experience building and designing Android apps

    Location is Remote

We're currently in Berkeley, California (UTC-8) so ideally you live in North America or South America. We prefer if you live in a timezone that is less than 4 hours different from UTC-8 / Pacific Time.

The answers to these pressing questions can be obtained through the innovative use of satellite imagery and Earth data, and the private sector has to be part of the solution. We aim to be a big part of that story. TellusLabs thrives thanks to an interdisciplinary approach that combines, machine learning, statistics, remote sensing, and geospatial sciences. About SurveyMonkey

SurveyMonkey is the world's leading provider of web-based survey solutions, and we’re looking to transform the way people make decisions. We're a smart, passionate group of people who work hard to deliver the best survey experiences on the planet, period. We believe everyone deserves easy access to the information and insights they need to make great decisions.

We're also proud to admit that despite our incredible growth over the past 17 years, we refuse to grow up. We stay curious. We believe in good ol’ roll-up-your-sleeves scrappiness. Everyone plays an impactful role, because we’re here to make a difference. And when we say good ideas can come from anyone, we mean it.

SurveyMonkey is trusted by millions of customers, including 99% of the Fortune 500, as well as other businesses, academic institutions and organizations of all shapes and sizes. We collect over 3 million survey responses daily from people in all countries around the world.

Our Team

Our 8-person team is responsible for a key part of SurveyMonkey’s business strategy: it’s our job to build SurveyMonkey’s portfolio of SaaS business solutions and make them great. It’s challenging, exciting, and rewarding.

We have a unique and successful content-creation product (TechValidate), a brand-new product for measuring customer happiness (SurveyMonkey CX), and more on the drawing board (all built on Ruby on Rails, btw). We also create the marketing websites for our products. Working on our team feels like being part of a startup (without the 80-hour weeks) but backed by the resources of a larger profitable company.

Our team is geographically distributed (5 in the Bay Area, 3 elsewhere), and this is a remote-friendly position.

We strive for excellence in our work, but with all the opportunities on our plate, product and UX design have become bottlenecks. That’s where you come in.

The Opportunity

We’re looking for a talented senior UX/product designer who enjoys working on small teams. If you have experience designing SaaS applications, like working closely with developers, and relish designing how a product should work just as much as you enjoy designing what it looks like, we should talk.'

As mentioned above, we have an exciting roadmap for our two existing products, but we also have another product on the drawing board for 2017. Depending on your interest and abilities, you'll be able to either contribute across our product line, or focus on one of our products as the lead designer and de-facto product manager. There are no dedicated product managers on our team – we all contribute to defining what our products are and how they will work. As a designer, you will have an outsized influence in this process. More specifically, you will:

  • Collaborate closely with our Director of Design, engineers, and stakeholders in an iterative and feedback-driven process.
  • Design beautiful and engaging user interfaces according to user needs, business requirements and technical constraints.
  • Develop wireframes, mockups, and prototypes
  • Write UI copy
  • Potentially manage and mentor junior designers
  • Potentially contribute to our CSS framework

This position has the opportunity to work remote -- those of us who are in the Bay Area work in the office one day per week, but we also have team members who are fully remote.

    Requirements:

  • A minimum of 4 years experience as a professional designer
  • Experience designing desktop and mobile SaaS interfaces
  • Experience in front-end development (HTML, CSS, basic JavaScript). You don’t have to implement in this role, but you should be technically grounded.
  • A eye for detail and a real passion for great usability and aesthetics.
  • You’re not overly attached to your own designs – you are open to feedback from all team members to find the best solution.
  • A strong portfolio featuring relevant work examples
  • You know Sketch like the back of your hand
  • Fluent in English with excellent written and verbal communication skills

    How We Work

Some of our team is fully remote, but those of us who are in the SF bay area meet once a week at the TechValidate office in Emeryville. If you are also in the SF bay area, you can work out of the office as frequently as you like.

At SurveyMonkey, we offer competitive salaries, medical/dental benefits, PTO, 401k, paid holidays, and equity compensation.

SurveyMonkey is an equal opportunity employer.

How We Work

There is no Bandcamp office. Our team is sprinkled throughout the world, with arms, cells, pods, what-have-yous in San Francisco, Brooklyn, Montreal, British Columbia, the British Isles, Los Angeles, the Carolinas, Pittsburgh, Vermont, Mexico City and Berlin. We get together all day and night on Slack, design and document everything on a wiki, do a short daily hangout that is exactly like the start of Hill Street Blues, and meet in person a few times a year for strategizing, working head-to-head, and laser bowling. If you do not have a strong social structure outside of work then employment at Bandcamp will likely lead to heart disease and an early death.

----

Designer

Bandcamp is seeking a mind-bogglingly talented individual for our design team to help us create new products and features, improve existing ones and make our site and mobile apps shining beacons of wonder for all who gaze upon them. You will design. You will code. You will have a positive impact on the lives of hundreds of thousands of artists and their millions of fans each and every day. You will feel good. You will feel as good as I do right now.

  • You are a user-experience/interaction designer and visual designer.
  • You will be able to take your ideas from sketches to mockups to production-ready HTML/CSS.
  • You understand that design is how a product looks and how it works.
  • You love digging into a problem, discovering the underlying issues, crafting solutions and measuring the results.
  • Your work exhibits a refined, clean, contemporary visual aesthetic.
  • You know about typography and how to best use it across mediums.
  • You can’t understand why a job posting would list HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Sketch, Principle, Photoshop, Illustrator and Dreamweaver as requirements when that’s already obvious. We are joking about Dreamweaver.

Are you UI/UX Designer with strong Front End Development skills? Are you a Front-End Developer who is passionate about User Experience Design? If so, we’d love to hear from you. InFlight is growing and we need a UI Designer/Developer to help build and implement cutting-edge user experience design across our entire solution and product line.

This is a role for someone who can leverage graphic design fundamentals to create beautiful interfaces and can also open a code editor and build interactive prototypes using HTML5, CSS, and Javascript without breaking a sweat. You will help design our growing portfolio of enterprise responsive web applications and turn requirements into demos in under 8 hours.

Knowledge of common design patterns for desktop and mobile is a must. You should also know how to build accessible web pages and run usability tests. You are an avid and continual learner who is on top of modern web libraries and frameworks because last year’s trends might as well be last century’s.

If this sounds like you, join our rapidly growing company and take your design career to the next level.

What we do:

InFlight brings the user experience of aging enterprise applications into the future. We do things with legacy enterprise software that no one thought possible.

Our approach to modernization is so simple, yet so sophisticated, it dissolves all the technical and organizational hurdles that enterprises usually face during IT projects.

We enable blue chip brands to:

  • Enhance online and mobile service delivery to create emotional impact and engagement
  • Step outside disruptive and expensive cycle of software upgrades and migrations
  • Deliver a perpetually fresh user experience for the least cost

InFlight is a small software company that’s been able to transcend the hype usually associated with the industry. We’ve got all the perks and opportunities that start-ups have, plus all the advantages of being an established and profitable business.

    What’s in it for you?

  • Make a difference: Every day you will build interfaces that save people time and radically improve the experience they have using their enterprise applications.
  • Impact: InFlight is driving change across multiple industries and affecting the work lives of millions of end-users. Every day you will see the fruits of your labour.
  • Work and learn with the best: You will work alongside a growing team of designers and front-end developers who are talented and passionate about what they do.
  • Career growth: The work you do here will extend and deepen your skills. You will create an impressive portfolio of work that is yours to take.
  • Mentorship: You will be working under the direction of our Senior Designer, Stefan Regehr - https://www.linkedin.com/in/sregehr.

So what do we need? Someone who wants to:

  • Leverage a wide range of visual design skills, user experience principles and processes, and front-end development skills to build user interfaces that people love to use.
  • Work with clients to understand user and business needs, build prototypes, gather feedback, iterate designs and implement production-ready solutions.
  • Work with our sales team, marketing and engagement managers to identify customer pain points and new business opportunities.
  • Create mockups and prototypes that showcase InFlight solutions to prospective clients.
  • Design and develop customer solutions for a growing list of clients across many different markets/sectors.
  • Contribute to the direction of our product portfolio’s visual design aesthetic, interaction design patterns and guidelines, and front-end processes and framework.

You may be the person we’re looking for if you have:

  • A passion for design. You may or may not be classically trained but you’ve got proven experience, talent and keen interest in designing great user experiences. Your portfolio speaks volumes, demonstrating your design thinking, development skills and communication skills.
  • A true interest in people, solutions and technology. The ability to present a solution that will change the everyday lives of customers is personally and professionally satisfying to you.
  • A sense of urgency. The ability to analyze an existing legacy application or process and quickly prototype a modern, responsive re-imagination of that app.
  • A designer’s mindset and a developer’s toolbox. You care about the who and why as much as the what and the how. You are just as comfortable mocking something up in a code editor as you are on a whiteboard.
  • A designer’s eye combined with technical experience. You should have experience building websites and/or applications using HTML5, CSS (including pre-processors such as Less/Sass/Stylus) and JavaScript/jQuery. You should also have experience building web pages using templating libraries such as Handlebars, and some experience and/or familiarity of modern web frameworks such as Angular, Vue.js or React.
  • A desire to be a champion. You want to work collaboratively to impress our customers with easy-to-use solutions with a unique interface and experience that delights them.

Want to learn more about what it’s like to work at InFlight?

Visit our Careers page (www.inflightintegration.com/jobs) to learn more about our perks, culture and values.

Does this sound good? Apply now!

If you’re ready to make an impact on how the world’s biggest brands work, we’d love to hear from you.

tl;dr
====

=======================================

This is a part-time role to start although continued demonstration of required skills and on-time deliveries may lead to a full-time offer (part time is approx 20 hours per week of effort although this is negotiable). Initially, we will start by issuing small discrete work packages which can be done in isolation and then later integrated into a larger solution. These tasks will require experience making REST'ful calls for graphs of data, storage in the client, and fairly nuanced/fluid visualization of data to allow users to interact with. Final deliveries will require integration into a React framework but other supporting technology choices may be open for discussion. These projects will also require knowledge of formula's relating to lending, money management, interest calculations, etc... (Ex. calculate loan interest, APRs, etc...) This will also include calculation of amortization schedules, and similar methods to visualize financial relationships for customers. Candidate Guidance:

1- This job can be done remotely, however we prefer someone who is based in Europe, North America, or South America.

2 - This a part-time / Project based freelance role.  This is not a full-time position.

3- Please do NOT apply if you you do not have a growing list of Web SaaS product design / artifacts in your portfolio that you can share.

4-We ALREADY have a talented UX team... what we need more of are folks skilled in reading through detailed user interviews and extracting key product design requirements and then translating those into artifacts that can be used by UX and Front End Developers.

Project Brief:
We are designing a modern Web SaaS application for Enterprise customers designed to radically improve alignment, innovation, and organizational performance.  This product is NOT a task management system or project management system.. it is a system inspired by several goal setting methodologies, but is in it's own right a complete re-invention of how to foster goal alignment and achievement in large companies.  We are not building a tool for just tracking goals, but a platform for fostering rich learning  interactions designed to accelerate a companies bottom line while also helping employees succeed at work.

We have conducted 12-15 intense design research sessions to uncover a new approach to goal setting and alignment that overcomes the ways large companies typically organize and make decisions.

Each of these design sessions has produced documented conversations approaching 15,000-20,000 words each.  These notes informally document a wide ranging set of features and micro-interactions as well as UX and business rules that need to be captured in a more formal set of design artifacts we can share with developers.

Deliverable's Required
We seek a VERY savvy Product / BA /  System designer who both understands and is highly skilled in capturing product and system level requirements in a variety of forms including:  User Stories, Use Cases, Wire Frames, User Flows, etc.

The ideal candidate will be comfortable working MAINLY with our transcripts and powerpoint deck.  From this informal documentation we want you to extract all the critical information required to develop a complete set of product design artifacts.  This will include you helping us write detailed user stories in collaboration with our UX/UI team so that our Front-End developers can work at maximum speed and effectiveness.

About Us

We’re a small, fully-remote team focussed on building great products for an industry (commercial real estate) that’s still largely undisrupted by technology. Our wild start-up days are behind us – we're all grown up and profitable now with a 15-year track record and users who love us. We launched a new product last year that's driving a lot of growth, and we could really use some help.

  • Our team is mainly full-stack, Java developers, but we've been using ReactJS for most new development for the past couple years (with Java on the server-side).
  • We use a microservices architecture, practice continuous integration, and host everything from AWS.
  • We're not dogmatic about our tools/technologies – we use whatever best suits the task at hand.
  • We communicate mainly via Slack and GitLab, but get everybody together for face-time at least twice a year.

About You

  • You're an expert with JavaScript, loving the good parts and understanding the bad.
  • You have a good amount of experience with ReactJS, and have (at least) built something non-trivial with it.
  • You're comfortable with a command line.
  • You're a quick study, stay up with the latest-and-greatest ideas and processes, and consciously work to become a better developer every day.
  • You understand that working as part of a small team means wearing lots of different hats.
  • You value stability, work/life balance, group decision-making, and working with people that are good-natured, interesting, hard-working, and self-motivated.

Catylist is for you if...

  • You hate the corporate bureaucracy of a big company.
  • You're over the chaos and uncertainty of a start-up. You like having reasonable hours and knowing that your job will be around next week.
  • You enjoy maintaining and improving the products you've built rather than handing them off and moving on to the next thing.

This is a full-time, 40 hours per week, remote, W2 position with benefits (health/dental/vision/401k).

To apply: Send a note to paul@catylist.com explaining why you're a fit for our team. Please include your resume, GitHub link, and anything else that will help us avoid clicking "Archive" on your submission :)

ABOUT YOU

You’ve built sophisticated SPAs using one or more mainstream frameworks like Angular, Knockout, Backbone, Meteor, React, etc.; and you’re chomping at the bit to try another. You’ve built backends in one or more mainstream frameworks using Java, .NET, nodejs, etc. You think in REST and always notice when your CSS is off by a pixel. Modeling the databases and building the engines behind UIs gets your gears turning just as much as animating a button. You know the difference between call() and apply(), but you also know it usually doesn’t matter. Apps that react as fast as you can click have you opening up the source code. Working with more junior developers gets you excited for the coaching opportunities, and more senior developers for the learning. Groking the business requirements is second-nature. You own what you wrote and jump in to help your team support the product when there’s a fire, and when the smoke clears you’re one of the first to say “ok, how can we make sure that doesn’t happen again?”. You’re passionate and opinionated about great user experience; and most importantly, you love building real, working apps that surprise and delight your customers.

WHAT YOU’D BE DOING

Under general supervision of the Engineering Manager, the Promotions B2B Engineer is a full-stack engineer with a bent for hard front-end problems, performing assignments in one or more of the following areas: providing technical guidance and direction to other staff members; participating in project planning and requirements definition; system/application design, system/application development, unit testing, support during QA and User Acceptance Testing, implementation and integration; customer support for and technical expertise in end-user decision support software tools and end-user computing technology; conducting all activities in accordance with standards and procedures.

MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design, develop, test, deploy, and support new software solutions and changes to existing software solutions

  • Troubleshoot technical issues in a variety of application environments

  • Mentor team members and provide thoughtful discussion on tactics and strategies as they are selected

  • Translate business requirements and product specifications into components of complex, loosely-coupled, distributed systems

  • Maintain a focus on rapid delivery of new features to market while maintaining stability and uptime

  • Maintain familiarity with the evolving trends in software development

Apply

We’re looking for a Mid / Senior Frontend Developer, with great communication skills and a passion to help customers. If you’re always on top of the latest technologies, have a keen eye for design and you love helping customers make the best of the product you’ve built - read along! :)

Our tech stack:

We always strive to use the most suitable tool for the job, so our stack is constantly evolving. We write our frontend code in Typescript using ES6 modules. Our main stack is built using React with Redux, and vanilla Javascript. We have several applications that are yet to build so you'll have the opportunity to choose the technology that will best fit each project.
We’re not afraid to challenge our choices, we love open source and above all, we’re a product driven company so technology is at the core of everything we do. You can check out our full stack on StackShare (http://stackshare.io/findify)

Our development culture:

We are a small team that moves fast and iterates. We do weekly sprints, code reviews, testing, and once your code is submitted it gets pushed to production through our continuous deployment infrastructure (using Jenkins). We put a lot of emphasis on code style, cleanliness and robustness. You will get to work with a dedicated UX designer, and amazing engineers specializing in machine learning and distributed systems.

What you can expect from us:
As an early engineer in a small team, you’ll have the opportunity to make a real impact on the product, company vision and culture. You will get to work with the latest technologies out there, without being bound to any legacy. Have the opportunity to solve real-life problems using machine learning. We will never limit your creativity, never shut down ideas before testing them with customers and we will never be boring! it's going to be an exciting ride!

Compensation:

Your annual compensation will be between 20,000 and 36,000 EUR pre-tax ( about $22,500 - $40,000), based on your experience and qualifications, plus equity.

If this sounds like a company you’d love be a part of building, and you’ve got the skill set, we’d love to hear from you!

What we're looking for:

The most important thing we are looking for in a candidate is proven passion for programming and problem solving: a Github/Stackoverflow account, an interesting project you can share, or a blog you write will go a long way.
We are a distributed team, so you can work from anywhere you want, as long as it's 2 hours +/- from GMT+2. (The timezone is an important requirement for us at this stage)
It’s really important to us that you have the ability to adapt to the company’s work processes using the agile-scrum methodology, and using tools such as Jira and Slack. Not only because of our remote working culture, but even more so because of this, you need to be really awesome at communicating, and to be organized and self-driven.
Oh, and you need to want to have fun.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have solid experience with HTML5, CSS3, SASS, React and Redux
  • Have strong Typescript and ES6 skills, and able to deliver Interface based design
  • Think with responsive design
  • Have an eye for good design
  • Be proficient with modern frontend build tools and the ability to create build processes
  • Understand the core principles of functional programming and immutable state handling (and can write a .reduce function without stackOverflow :D)
  • Be good at explaining complex technological topics - for sharing knowledge within the team and being able to provide advanced support to our top merchants
  • Work with Git

Beyond the basics (what would really impress us):

  • Experience with functional programming.
  • Experience with full-stack development (Express, child process management, fs)
  • Experience with AWS management

DESCRIPTION

About Veeqo

Veeqo is an award winning high growth tech startup company which has customers around the world and an ambition to become the best software platform for online retailers to manage their business. It helps online retailers sync their stock between their website, retail stores and marketplaces like eBay and Amazon.

Veeqo is growing at an astonishing 300% per year and is expanding globally. Joining Veeqo is a unique opportunity to get involved in a world class start up. Our company is based in London and Swansea and is expanding internationally rapidly ( US, Germany …)

Our position

Because our frontend was fragmented and carries some legacy, the team recently started to make things right: never write new code without tests, practice modularity, devote time to do technical debt, etc. We need someone smarter than us who will lead this movement in frontend.

Job location

We have offices in London, Swansea and shortly Cardiff but some of our team prefer to work remote, which we fully support.

Our team

Less than a dozen developers, five of which are frontend/fullstack. Our workflow and practices are based on shared culture rather than on red tape, which means that you will be also responsible for keeping, maintaining and conducting the culture. We are still a relatively small team, so your contribution will be significant.

Our frontend technology stack

  • Marionette.js, Backbone.js, CoffeeScript, JavaScript, SCSS, Rails assets pipeline
  • Some legacy plain Backbone javascript parts and even several legacy rendered Rails views
  • Jasmine, Sinon and Capybara are used for testing
  • RESTful RoR-based backend API (you can consider it a blackbox if you wish)

    ----

    REQUIREMENTS

    Required experience

  • Building and maintaining large frontend applications
  • Writing and maintaining unit, integration and functional tests for frontend behaviour
  • Keeping technical debt low
  • Leading [at least a small] team of frontenders
  • Working in a distributed team, being absolutely comfortable working with remote teammates

Technical skills required for this job

  • Perfect knowledge and experience in Marionette.js, CoffeeScript
  • Perfect SCSS skills
  • Profound knowledge of Backbone.js
  • Good TDD skills with Jasmine or Mocha, Sinon
  • Good skills in writing tests with Capybara or similar tool
  • Good OOD skills, knowledge of OOP patterns
  • Familiarity with BEM approach

    We expect that you will:

  • Come up with a strategy of gradual improvement of our frontend codebase
  • Deliver new features as a part of our usual iteration workflow
  • Judge many trade-offs: advantages of a hot technology vs adoption cost, perfection of code vs speed of development, etc.
  • Support existing code and perform refactoring gradually making architectural improvements
  • Share your knowledge and experience with the rest of the team and significantly contribute into the developer's’ culture
  • Implement best frontend development practices
  • Give and receive a lot of code review

    Who are you ?

  • You're a person who writes clean code that not only works, but is also maintainable and easy to change
  • You’re self-organized
  • You want to make the best UI for great experience of our customers
  • You have a patience and strong will to invigorate teammates
  • You want to build a career in a global company
  • You thrive in a fast-growing, always-changing environment
  • You want to be challenged every day

What do we (as a development team) practice:

  • TDD (obviously)
  • Continuous integration
  • Continuous delivery
  • Infrastructure as code
  • Well-defined planning process
  • Regular team retrospectives
  • Non-blocking code reviews

In short, we do our best to shorten feedback loops from any change of the system.

    ----

    BENEFITS

  • Be part of a fast growth start-up and make a difference.
  • Our company highly supports personal and professional growth so it’s a great opportunity to became a team lead
  • We have an open business culture, so you’ll be able to see all aspects of the start-up growth
  • Work in a friendly, cross-functional team, with people who aim to be the best and love to tackle problems
  • Remote first - we believe in quality of work, not sitting in an office for 8 hours
  • Explicitly allocated time every week to learn new technologies and hacking
  • “The No Asshole” rule is applied
  • Annual budget for going to conferences or training in Europe
  • Spotify Premium, Private GP and Gym Membership
  • Share option

DESCRIPTION

Travis CI is looking for a user interface and experience designer in US and EU timezones.

Travis CI is a continuous integration product that helps developers test and deploy their software with confidence. We are headquartered in Berlin, Germany with over half the company working remotely. As a company we are committed to openness, diversity, collaboration, and empathy.

As a designer at Travis CI, you will work closely with our Lead Designer and with our product team members, helping them create usable and engaging designs and user experiences. As part of our Platform Development team you’ll learn the challenges we face creating an environment for users to get their jobs done with our product. Using your experience as a designer, you’ll work with developers to make changes and add features to our product UI.

More about Travis CI:

Travis CI is a continuous integration platform: We run people's tests, deploy their code and help them be confident about their work.

We have strong roots in open source, both in our community and how Travis CI was built. We continue to support the open source community wherever we can.

Travis CI is run as a hosted service, free for open source, and a paid product for private code. It's also available as an on-premises version (Travis CI Enterprise).

We're a small, bootstrapped business headquartered in Berlin, Germany, with a team distributed across Europe and the Americas. Our goal is to help people build better software. Travis CI is profitable, and we're building a sustainable business for the long run.

Our team values working at a healthy pace and a normal working day over working extreme hours. We encourage self-care and personal time to be taken. Empathy is one of our core values as a team and company, towards each other, and our customers.

We foster a culture of continuous improvement and learning. If something's worth fixing or improving, it should be fixed or improved. Making mistakes is part of what we do, and we make sure we have each other's backs and learn from them. At Travis CI, we value diversity in all aspects of our team. We value everyone's questions, insights and feedback. We devote time to help our customers, the open source community, diversity in software development and to help our local communities. Most importantly, we thrive to help and support each other.

Travis CI seeks to increase the ratio of women in software engineering and development, and we encourage women and people from underrepresented groups to apply for this position.

Travis CI is striving to be a diverse team, made of and built by people with different backgrounds and lifestyles. We don't discriminate based on race, gender, sexual orientation, marital status, disability, age, religion, color, or any other group.

----

REQUIREMENTS

At Travis CI we treat our users with empathy and care. We’re passionate about building and maintaining a tool that helps people work efficiently and would expect you to have these qualities as well. We encourage cross-team collaboration and this role will require someone who loves teamwork and is willing to work closely with different stakeholders.

We’re looking for someone who loves crafting purpose driven, clean designs. This individual would ideally have experience in and passion for user experience. The role of this designer position will need someone with the ability to solve problems creatively and effectively, with empathy of our diverse user base.

Qualifications:

You enjoy working in a team and brainstorming with others. You are able to see the big picture of the product and work towards finding creative solutions to improve it. You’ve had at least two years of professional experience in UX/UI design. Creating wireframes, user flows/stories, process flows, is already part of your personal toolkit. Ideally you are proficient in Adobe Illustrator and other Adobe Suite programs.

A BFA or MFA degree in art or design related fields such as: Ad Graph, Interactive, and New Media design would be a nice-to-have, but no must-have. We rely on tools like GitHub and InvisionApp to keep our work transparent and accessible to others in the company, and it would be great if you had experience using those programs. Since more than half of our company is working remotely, we’d like you to have experience working with distributed teams. Though our workdays can be flexible, this position requires overlapping hours with US/EU timezones (extra bonus points if you’re located somewhere in The Americas). You must be fluent in English for this position.

Most of all we’re looking for someone who understands that design isn’t about making things pretty on the surface. We want someone who knows design is about making products easier to use and functional for a broad range of users.

----

BENEFITS

Being a distributed team, you can work from wherever you want. You don’t have to go to Berlin, but we’re happy to fly you in to meet and work with the team.

You choose your working hours. We understand life comes with responsibilities and complications. We have families and personal lives and we encourage all our builders to spend time tending to them.

Minimum paid leave per year is 25 days.

Your health insurance is partially covered by Travis CI. We’ll generally split about 50/50 between employer and employee, no matter where you are. US based employees are offered a generous benefits package which includes healthcare, 401k, commuter, and other pre-tax benefits through the co-employment organization we partner with.

We’ll ship you a Kindle and give you a book allowance so you can take time off and read.

You’ll learn and grow at conferences, we’ll pay for travel and ticket costs.

Frontend Software Developer

About LaterPay
We want to change the way people buy and sell digital content on the Internet. Why? Because we believe paying for digital content should be fast, convenient, and fair. And because we think you should be able to buy the exact piece of content you want.

We want to create a great software product that influences and changes the way people use paid content of any kind on the Internet. Consuming paid content should be as easy and convenient as going out to dinner: you are served first and you pay later. We want to build a user-centric product that makes users feel smart. It should represent the simplest, most secure way to buy digital goods. We want to change the way people regard paid content, turning it into a great experience. We want to enable businesses to offer “paid content as a service”, assuring users of their content’s value instead of forcing them to pay before actually getting the content.

What we have

English is our language, Slack is our “office” (though we also rent an office in Munich), GitHub’s where we keep our code, and AWS is where our stuff runs (plus some machines in a Munich DC, but we’re winding that down).

We’ve got a bunch of web UIs: newer ones built with React and Webpack and deployed to AWS S3, plus some older ones based around Django-templated HTML and jQuery. Behind them sit various services, mostly Python/Django providing REST-y APIs.

How we work

As a distributed team, we’re not too bothered by when and where you work. That said, most of us work Monday - Friday from 9ish UTC to 6ish UTC, and ideally you’d overlap heavily with that.

We try to be as asynchronous as possible, but still feel that we need some “synchronicity” to work well.

  • Based in UTC+4 and want to work “normal hours”? Sure
  • Based in UTC–8 and want to time-shift your days to overlap with “Team UTC”? If that works for you, sure
  • Hobbies, family, pets etc. that require you to take time out of your day? Assuming you can maintain a reasonable amount of overlap with the rest of the team, sure
We care more about what you do and how you work with the rest of the team, than we do about your ability to be at a chair at a desk at 9am every day.

What we’re looking for

Good command of written English

This is probably the most important quality. Communication is vital, especially as a distributed team, where most tools we use don’t communicate tone or body language.

Anecdata suggests that your English is probably better than you think it is.

A desire to fix problems “properly” (not just paper over them) AND an understanding that you often can’t fix problems properly

We want you to want to build good-quality well-engineered solutions, but to know that sometimes you just need to “hack it in”. There are always tradeoffs to be made.

Experience and drive

You don’t need to be a Senior X or Chief Y, but you do need to be capable of taking a task and owning it.

That doesn’t mean you necessarily do all the work, but it does mean you take on responsibility for completion, and asking for help and advice as appropriate.

Specifics

Knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript and the DOM is essential and you know what a browser is capable of and what’s available to you. Knowing how to build and debug complex applications is important, as well as ensuring they perform well. You understand how to test frontend applications, and how to choose and evaluate tools to help you better do your job. Oh, and having an eye for UX can be very valuable too.

Familiarity with React and its ecosystem is important - we need you to be able to hit the ground running with our existing React-based UIs. Knowledge of the Flux Application Architecture is also important. Familiarity with Redux is useful, though not mandatory.

A solid surface/contextual-level understanding of “the full web stack” is massively useful - we don’t expect you to know the mechanics of a DNS SOA record or the inner workings of Postgres’s HStore, but knowing the right sort of tool to use for a given task is important, as is knowing enough words to start asking helpful questions / googling the right things

Experience with Python would definitely be useful to be able to poke the underlying services

Closing date

We will be taking applications until 10 January 2017. All screens and interviews will be arranged after the closing date.

APPLY

If this sounds interesting, but you're not sure you're quite the right fit, *apply*, and let us know what you bring to the table. We're not just looking for "Computer Science degree and X years of experience with language Y".

Salary

36k-65kEUR / year

For consumers, our products will provide the place to find locally sourced, owned, and loved restaurants. Travelling? Taking your relatives or a date out for dinner? Localvore Today can tell you which restaurants and businesses support the local economy you’re in. We’ll even tell you which farms your food comes from and which other merchants provide their products.

Our merchants will have access to customers who want their products and a suite of tools which make it simple and affordable to market directly to those customers. Once a customer is engaged, we’ll provide the ability to engage with them directly, receive their praise and address any concerns they may have. We’ll also simplify merchants’ lives by propagating their hours, menu, and location changes to the entire internet. Our long term vision includes facilitating complete local economies with features such as supply-chain management.

We are currently a B-certified corp and are moving toward becoming a certified B-corp. It is in our mission to benefit the public at large and socially conscious businesses that are mindful of their impact on the environment, economy, and local community.

The Job

Our frontend applications are built using React, Redux, Bootstrap 4 and SCSS. You should be able to work with these technologies on day one, but also be on the lookout for how to do things better. As our first senior engineer focused on the frontend, your opinions will help define our stack going forward.

Among other things, you’ll be responsible for:

  • Turning provided SCSS/HTML into fully functional applications with data provided by our JSON:API endpoints and Algolia powered search indices
  • Providing occasional front-end support for JavaScript issues
  • Interviewing, mentoring and leading junior team members
  • Reviewing pull requests to ensure adherence to quality and design standards
  • Collaborating in the creation of clean, straight-forward, innovative user interfaces
  • Being the user-advocate by subjecting early-stage designs to usability testing and offering implementation suggestions from a user-centered perspective

You can work remotely or out of our HQ in Burlington, VT where we have Kombucha and Beer on tap. Regardless of where you work, we have generous benefits and perks available.

About You

You are a Localvore who loves amazing local food and is a US resident or citizen. You want to empower small businesses to compete with national and global chains. You’re passionate about frontend tech, play well with others, can lead and be led and can help define and complete detail oriented work. You have big ideas, know you’re amazing and operate with a tiny ego. From time to time your passion extends to side / pet projects that further enhance your skills.

  • 5+ years of professional software development experience
  • Experience with modern frameworks like React and Redux
  • A proven track record of delivering products inside of a remote team (if remote)
  • Tolerance for others and any viewpoints they have that may run counter to your own
  • Experience working on an Agile team
  • Mastery of ES5, ES6, HTML5 & CSS
  • Experience implementing real-time technologies
  • Significant knowledge of and experience with RESTful APIs

Bonus points if you:

  • have implemented on top of JSON:API
  • have open source contributions that show off what you can do
  • know Elixir, Erlang, Ruby or PHP

To apply: If you’re an awesome person with amazing skills and want a place where you can excel, impact national (and eventually international) commerce, work when and where you want, and have an ownership stake in the farm to table, local economy, contact Dan at danm@localvoretoday.com.
