Full Stack Ruby On Rails Developer
Remote

Job description
(This position accepts remote candidates, as well as on-site for our Jacksonville office)

Who We Are:

* Helpjuice empowers large and small companies (such as Hertz, US Government, and thousands of others) to deliver instant support

* We're a smaller, yet growing software company, where everyone wears multiple hats. It's a team of excellent people, who are all willing to help each other, because it's the way we work / our culture

* We care about our customers, and are a very transparent company in how we build software (e.g.: our product roadmap is public & customer-driven)

Who We're Looking For:

* You want to learn from a founder who has launched multiple companies and see a job not just as a way to write code and get paid for it, but as a great learning opportunity

* You value a team that works both hard and smart - who are obsessed with helping customers and honing their craft more than anything

* You actually want to love your job, the people you work with and the software you help create, instead of simply tolerating them

* You’re looking for a career, not just another job

* You know, like and agree with most of the views shared by the Basecamp guys

Requirements

* You have 3+ years in Rails, ideally 1+ year in Rails 5

* You've worked with a monolith code base and understand that 'micro-services' are not a solution for every scenario

* You can write beautiful JavaScript code, and prefer instantaneous JavaScript apps. Apps that refresh are in the past

* You're a damn good communicator, and don't make excuses. "It works on my computer" isn't a valid response why our app is down

Are you up for the challenge?
Apply now via the application form. For more information about our organization, visit www.helpjuice.com.

Estately makes it easier to find and buy a home online and we need your help.

What you'll do:

You'll collaborate to build, maintain, and streamline our large application, working with Ruby, Rails, Postgres, and more. Some examples of the work you'll be doing include the following:

* Working closely with product and design to define and implement new features
* Continually improving our fetching code, which grabs data on millions of properties throughout each day
* Integrating various APIs to give our customers even more info about homes
* Making our website a more delightful experience

You'll have both the opportunity and the independence to tackle all kinds of challenges: some days you'll work on refactoring a legacy part of the app to make it do something new, and on others, you'll build a brand new, greenfield feature.

You

* You have experience architecting, building, and maintaining reliable web applications that serve hundreds of requests per second.
* You care about maintaining a clean, readable, well tested codebase.
* We work extensively with Ruby, Rails, Postgres, React, and Sass. You have experience with most of these technologies, and are eager to learn new ones.
* You communicate well and collaborate with the whole team, be it to clarify product specifications or work through tough code problems.
* You enjoy mentoring fellow team members in areas where you have expertise – and graciously accept mentorship in areas where you have an opportunity to grow.

About Us:

* We're a small team focused on opening up the old school real estate world.
* Our goal is to build the best place for people to browse, shop for, and buy homes.
* We employ an iterative approach to building products and deploy multiple times a day.
* We have a big vision.
* We believe in hiring smart people and giving them the support and flexibility to succeed.

If you work locally, you'll be in a relaxed and fun office in the Belltown neighborhood.
We're looking to hire the best people wherever they are in the world. If you don't want to relocate to beautiful Seattle, you should be awesome at working from home and available to join our daily standup at 9:30am Pacific Time. Some developers live in Seattle and come into the Estately office, while others live and work remotely, including from outside of the United States. We've had remote developers since 2011, and are seasoned veterans of working with a distributed team, across multiple time zones.

Our Hiring Process

We believe in collaborative interviews where we work with you to solve realistic problems. We interview for practical skills in a one-on-one setting, and strive to use your preferred editor and tools whenever possible. Great candidates don’t usually write code on white boards, or implement basic data structures from scratch, so we won’t ask you to do that. We want our recruiting process to be transparent to you. It roughly consists of the following steps:

An initial call between you and a member of our team

We'll tell you more about the work that you'd be doing, and why we think Estately is a great place to work. You'll have the opportunity to ask us lots of questions, too. We'll ask you about your experience and some technical questions, mostly to get a feel for where you're at as we move forward with the process.

     Individual Exercise

We have a few practical challenges to assess technical knowledge. Over the course of a few hours, you'll be fixing a bug in our app (that we've previously fixed), so we can see how you approach solving a realistic problem.

Pairing on a Few Potential Features

During the pairing exercises you'll pair with one of our developers to implement an (existing) feature in the app. This will take a couple hours or so, and will mostly consist of discussion about approach, with some coding in the midst of it.

Discussion with representatives from our Product and Design teams

As a small team, all of our developers work very closely with product and design. These short sessions will give you a chance to meet and speak with the product and design folks that you would be working with on a regular basis.

Diversity

Estately seeks to increase the ratio of women and underrepresented minorities in software engineering and development, we encourage women and people from underrepresented groups to apply for this position.

Estately is striving to be a diverse team, made of and built by people with different backgrounds and lifestyles. We don't discriminate based on race, gender, sexual orientation, marital status, disability, age, religion, color, or any other group.

Job description

We’re a year-old startup that’s initially grown with a licensed tech solution that includes customer and admin mobile/web apps. We now need to incrementally build out our own stack and therefore need an experienced, hands on dev to kick start and grow our tech team.

You’ll be working directly with the CEO (me) and the growth team to plan and incrementally build out our tech stack. I’ve built out software and data-science teams, am a Rails dev/geek and (I hope) not a dick so we should get along well.

We’ll work on delivering value quickly without skipping on important stuff like good test coverage, thoughtfully refactored code and a CI suite. My plan is to quickly grow the tech team as we prove value to the board. You’ll have the opportunity to grow into a management position (although the CTO will probably need to be Sydney based) or just keep your head down cutting code.

Skills

* Experience professionally developing software in Rails

* In a senior role at a startup

* Working fullstack

* An understanding and appreciation of

* User-friendly software

* Delivering value (customer, business)

* Experience integrating with other tech: CRMs, ERPs etc

* A range of front-end technologies

* The foundations: various DBs, DevOps, TDD, Queuing, REST APIs etc etc

* The ability to think architecturally: build or SaaS, monolith or services, when to spike vs when to ensure quality

* Open-source experience and an understanding of growth marketing a plus.

Remote & flexible

We’re based in Sydney but the team’s scattered around Au and NZ so we constantly interact with each other remotely. The hours are flexible. It doesn’t matter if you work best first thing in the morning after some tai-chi or at 3am after 5 Red Bulls - as long as you put out quality work.

Keen?

Shoot me a response with your experience and why you think you’re right for the job. It doesn’t need to be War and Peace - your experience should speak for itself.

Since 2005, over 300,000 websites have used Crazy Egg to understand how their audience experiences their website and their product. We are pioneers in data visualization, in conversion rate optimization, and in helping small and medium businesses get immense value quickly and accurately from incredibly large data sets. That's what we love to do. We are looking for a Full Stack Engineer to help build on that foundation and improve our product, and the tools, technology and platform we use to help our customers.

You will be joining a small, but passionate Crazy Egg team as a Senior Full Stack Engineer and assist us in scaling our systems and move us towards a service oriented architecture.

Here's what that looks like at Crazy Egg, and here are the values you’d be excited to stand behind:

**As a team we strive for:**
- Direct, undeniable, customer impact. We have incredible customers that we're grateful for and we believe the best teammates are the ones who, regardless of function or discipline, are eager and excited to find a way to connect their work directly to customers.
- Trusted independence with interdependence. You are fully trusted as a full owner of the work you do; self-determined, responsible, accountable, and celebrated. With that freedom, you acknowledge, a broader social context. We work together, we partner, we collaborate, and we make sure the work we take on and hand off is done thoughtfully and with care.
- Assume positive intent. All outcomes may not be what we desired, what we expected, or what we needed. But they happened because people take chances and are willing to make decisions. We assume people try their hardest and try their best, we assume their actions started with the most positive of intentions. Every conversation, assessment, piece of feedback, starts with that assumption, on both sides. This ensures our team is built on a foundation of trust.
- Care and inclusion; sincerely. We work at Crazy Egg because we believe in the opportunity, we believe in the vision, we believe in our people, and we believe in our ability to build something wonderful. It is those beliefs that also mean we care about the market, we care about the vision, we care about each other, and we care about building something wonderful. When all of this falls into place, our customers are able to build better businesses and succeed.

**As an engineer what we hope you strive for:**
- The ability to work independently and with other engineers to develop new user experience-focused web applications, or provide support for existing systems.
- Have the ability to work on multiple parts of a web application, from internal backend APIs to dynamic frontend interfaces.
- Collaborate with designers, front-end specialists, other engineers, stakeholders, and clients to understand business goals, analyze requirements, formulate solutions, and ensure the successful execution and delivery of the end product using the best technologies.
- Assist in scoping, estimating, and planning of projects.
- Participate in code review, pairing, and other forms of knowledge sharing.
- Support of production applications may be required on some projects.
- Mentoring and helping others grow and make an impact

**Experience and Skills we are looking for:**
- Prior experience in developing single page/reactive applications - We use Ember.js.
- Prior experience developing web applications using web frameworks - We use Ruby on Rails.
- An excellent "system intuition". We have many complex systems which requires a strong ability to debug and quickly understand what is going on.
- Excellent planning, communication and collaboration skills.
- Understanding of best practices for web development, software design, and devops principles.
- You've had 3+ years of experience running past applications in production, ideally with several thousands of users.

**Nice to have, but not fully required experience:**
- Previous remote working experience
- Prior client services, consulting, or freelancing experience
- Working in a startup environment

Our software leverages machine learning, search, and other techniques to extract corporate content into meaningful segments that can be repurposed to accelerate document creation. As a motivated full-stack developer in a startup environment, you will have tremendous say in the work you do and the direction of our product.

Our target stack is Kotlin, JavaScript ES6 with React and GraphQL, SQL, graph database, and ElasticSearch backends, running on Linux with Docker and Kubernetes.

On being a Fullstack Engineer at resin.io

We maintain a service infrastructure for IoT devices, and this is where we have quite a bit of our engineering talent. You will be actively working on one or more of these core components, fixing bugs, solving complex technical problems, and implementing user-facing features across the resin.io stack. While resin.io focuses on IoT, the majority of our engineers don't require embedded programming expertise.

People who are successful engineers are well-rounded generalists and great communicators. They are eager to take responsibility for a project, and are able to make good decisions about the project because they have the context of what's important.

We don't require engineers to be already familiar with the technologies we use. We are happy to invest in people that showcase a strong understanding of the challenges of building secure distributed systems.

Responsibilities

* Actively invest back in our own technology, libraries, and frameworks

* Understand security best practices and strive to apply them in your work

* Be highly motivated to produce great code

* Evaluate customer requirements and other inputs to determine the scope and timing of new functionality

* Design, architect, and own the execution of your projects

* Ensure the architecture of our distributed system remains cohesive

* Collaborate, brainstorm, and coordinate work with other resineers

* Understand the high-level goals, and thus know how to prioritize your work

* Challenge orthodoxy when that will help the product evolve

* Work efficiently with a certain amount of ambiguity in the tasks you're executing

REQUIREMENTS

Need to have:

* Desire to make yourself and others more effective. You'd be bothered by an inefficient process

* Good understanding of software engineering practices and how to apply them

* Excellent written communication skills, and fluency in English

* Self-discipline to take on a project and push it to completion without too much management. You also know when to ask for help

* Strong problem-solving abilities. You know how to split a complex problem into incremental pieces

* Experience with backend and frontend technologies

Nice to have:

* A sample of your work (URL or attached sample)

* Contributions to OSS projects (please include a URL)

* Having worked remotely before

* Experience with Resin.io as a user

* Experience with embedded GNU/Linux, anything ranging from personal projects with a Raspberry Pi to commercial or industrial scenarios with custom devices

* Experience with React, Node.js, Docker, PostgreSQL, or Kubernetes

* Experience with embedded development and microprocessors

* Experience with the Electron framework and cross-platform development

* Experience leading software projects in the open source world

Make sure to let us know if any of these items apply to you!

Helpjuice is a SaaS product with large Enterprise customers such as Hertz, US Government, Nginx and others. We help many companies with their help center / knowledge base via our product: Helpjuice.com
We're a smaller, yet growing software company, where everyone wears multiple hats. It's a team of excellent people, who are all willing to help each other, because it's the way we work / our culture.
We're currently seeking a Senior Rails developer, with great English, and even better Rails skills. You should be really good with English -- almost excellent! :-)
Here's what we're looking for:
- Great English. Seriously, don't waste your time if your English isn't good enough to write/read/talk with it daily, with all of our team.
- Really good in Rails (backend) + Javascript (Frontend). Rails alone won't get you much, and you know that -- thats why you need JS to build high performance fast web apps in 2018..
- Cool person. We'll be working a lot together, we want you to enjoy it, just like we do!
Here's what we offer:
- Well paid salary. We don't monkey around, we pay well if we think you're great.
- Smart team. Expect to learn...a LOT. Not just in development, but in other areas aswell, as you'll be working w/ other team mates (support, sales, product management)
- Interesting product to work on. Imagine a product that thousands of businesses rely on, and that's entirely bootstrapped -- Yes, you'll for sure learn a lot, and have fun...and be a bit stressed at times :-)
- Flexible hours/management. I'm the CEO - and I'm writing this job post. I'm very hands off with my team, because we have a great team -- everyone is great, which is why I can just rely on them to do their job and NOT micromanage. TLDR; It's a fun work environment :-)
How To Apply?
Fill out ALL the questions in our application form -- if you don't want to share code samples, we totally get it, but we believe no good developer has 0 public repos on their Github (you may argue with us, but this is our policy).

* Communicating: You’re a skilled and fearless communicator -- clear, direct, and to the point, no matter whom you’re communicating with. You recognize that quality of  communication is what makes the difference between a good developer and a great one. Why we do what we do:
Logikcull’s mission is to democratize discovery. And make no mistake, our mission is hard! The costs and risks associated with complex data projects like e-discovery, responding to FOIA requests, and conducting internal investigations are skyrocketing as the amount of data increases. Logikcull is transforming these processes so they can be done in minutes, not days -- by anyone, anywhere. As a result, our customers -- solo attorneys to massive law firms, Fortune 500 companies to leading non-profits -- can find and use important information quickly so they can focus on their important work, whether it’s pursuing a better democracy or saving the Earth.

Who we are:
Based in San Francisco, Logikcull is the leading provider of discovery automation. Its secure cloud-based platform is trusted by hundreds of organizations, including the US Government, Fortune 500 and Am Law 200, who use it to efficiently solve the complex data challenges associated with electronic discovery, internal investigations, subpoena response, FOIA, claims processing and more.

Our current stack includes: Rails, Backbone + Marionette, MySQL, MongoDB, and Elasticsearch, all running in AWS.

You have the ability to learn and move within the organization as wanted. If you're interested in infrastructure/backend development, site-ops, security, microservices, mobile development etc. we want to keep you interested in your job and help you achieve personal growth

The features you build will have a massive impact into our rapidly growing user base. We build features based on the JTDB (Jobs To Be Done) framework. Every feature is well thought out before we commit to building it. Some of the features we’ve created have saved our users hundreds of wasted hours from doing manual processes. And other features have saved people millions of dollars in unnecessary litigation expenses. Talk about having an impact!

Are you prepared to take charge of maturing and expanding an entire web platform? We're looking for an excellent Ruby developer to build out Baymard's custom-built Rails-based web platform.

**The Job**
In this position, you will have a lot of influence on the technical direction of the company since all Baymard employees are e-commerce UX researchers except one (Jamie, co-founder of the business, and the person you’ll be working most closely together with). It’s an opportunity to help envision and build the technical platform of a research company that, while it works with tech, isn't yet another app or web service. (Because of this we’re also more than happy to open-source our internal code and scripts because we don't make our money from code.)

**Requirements**
\- We're looking for someone with strong programming skills since we want you to take charge / ownership of our tech platform.
\- Since all of our current infrastructure is written in Ruby, it's a major plus if that's your choice of language too.
\- Familiarity with JavaScript and CSS are a bonus, but not required.

_Note: you must be fluent in English, comfortable working remotely via digital platforms and willing to do a few yearly travels for team meetups (expect 2-4 weeks of travel each year)._

**Are We A Good Fit?**
If you’re looking for a chance to work on long-term goals rather than chasing monthly user growth targets, this will be a good match. We’re a business that has been profitable from day one and we really don’t care about temporarily spiking our user metrics in order to flip the company or impress VC investors. We’re much more interested in steady and sustainable improvements to our business – continually increasing the value we deliver to our customers (from which sustained increases in profitability organically follow). Since all of Baymard’s research is delivered through its website, your work will have an immediate and tangible impact on the company.

We want to work with the smartest and most dedicated people around the world, and all of our positions are therefore open to full-time remote work. In other words, you are welcome to work with us from any location you prefer (which many of our employees do). If you want to, you’re of course also welcome to work in our Copenhagen-based office.

**About Baymard**
Baymard Institute is a small independent web usability research organization, specialized in conducting large-scale generic usability studies of e-commerce sites. These studies are published as industry reports and benchmark databases at baymard.com (this site is a big part of the web platform you’ll be working on) – which is being used by thousands of web professionals, all the way from the independent freelance web designer to the UX Director of a Fortune 500 company.

You'll be working with a team of dedicated usability researchers conducting cutting-edge e-commerce research used by UX teams at some of the biggest brands in the world (clients include Nike, Lenovo, Etsy, etc.)?

**Apply**
If you’re interested in this position, please send the following to jamie+job@baymard.com (listed in order of importance):

\- Samples of back-end code you’ve written.
\- Samples of front-end code you’ve written (optional).
\- Other information you find relevant (hobbies, interests, work experience, CV, ..).

_Note: All applications and materials are kept strictly confidential. That said, open-source contributions are perfectly fine as code samples too – just send along / point us towards whatever “work” you feel best represents your skills._

### Who we are

Boords is a bootstrapped, self-funded SaaS company on a mission to make storyboarding simple. We've been running for just under 2 years and in that time have gone from an idea on the back of a napkin to a profitable, fast growing company. Boords is a web-based storyboarding tool, which makes it easy to add, remove, reorder and replace content to make the perfect storyboard quickly and easily. We’ve been keeping storyboarding simple since 2015.

We’re a small team who share an office in Old Street with our sister company Animade (award winning animation studio), so you’ll be working with a tight-knit group and have the opportunity to make a real impact.

### What's the job?

We're looking for a Full Stack Developer with experience using ReactJS and Rails to help us take Boords to the next level. We place emphasis on high quality code, great design and a great company culture. From a technical perspective, Boords is a Rails application with a ReactJS frontend, and a couple of Golang microservices thrown in for good measure.

Both of our founders are from a design & technical background, and we're fully committed to making something great over the long term.

### Requirements

Initially we are looking for someone to join us on a 3-month contract, with a view to extending to full time if we find the right fit. You should have solid experience working on production applications using ReactJS and Rails, and believe in writing well formatted, testable code.

Being a remote role, great written and verbal communication skills are particularly important. Initiative, self-motivation and good time management skills are also a must.

### Benefits

We understand that developers are in high demand - there's a lot of jobs out there for people who can write great code. However a lot of those jobs are at larger companies where you'll spend your time sitting in meetings, working on archaic code or otherwise not getting your ideas heard. We believe working at Boords offers the opportunity to make a real impact on a growing product in within a great company culture.

Working with use, you can expect:

- Great work/life balance
- Pension scheme
- Profit share scheme
- All you can drink Nespresso
- Foosball table
- Team away days and trips. Last year we hired a villa in Tuscany!
- Monthly team building activities organised by our ‘culture captains’
- Incredible team spirit
- Boords hoodie 🙂

Salary will depend on experience. If you want to work in a small, passionate team pushing code into production several times a week, get in touch.

Salary: £40k – £55k (according to location and exp.)
Holidays: 34 days (incl. bank holidays)
Location: 100% remote, UK resident
Benefits: Bupa, bonuses and much more…

We are a top ten UK media publisher, with a website loved by millions: a technology company at heart with industry-leading success metrics propelled by a highly experienced multi-disciplinary engineering team that can afford to run lean. Which means today, we offer all the excitement and agility of a start-up, but with the stability and benefits of an established business — we’re still a company where everyone gets to make a massive impact!

Our ethos and news product are well proven, but we’ve huge plans to fulfil our mission to be the best and fastest website for news from all the angles.

That’s why we’re expanding and now looking for permanent full stack developers, who will work on a wide array of challenges across our entire tech stack.

**About the role**

You will join our highly-experienced and multi-disciplinary product development and engineering team, enhancing the functionality of the website and improving our codebase and infrastructure through both client-side and server-side development. Some of our biggest challenges for 2017 include:

- Implementing our 'mobile first' roadmap.
- Native advertising integration.
- Auxiliary content integration.

At NewsNow, product development is a team sport. So you'll also be invited to collaborate with other members of our product development and engineering team in conceiving development efforts, researching and specifying planned product enhancements.

**You and your skills**

We want to hear from you if you are confident that you can learn what you need to know quickly and are keen to master new methods and discover new approaches. On-the-job training on the specifics of our systems, and even on the programming languages we use, will be provided.

For this role you will need:

- Prowess in HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript/ES5, jQuery and responsive design.
- OOP experience in a high-level language like JavaScript, PHP, Ruby, Python, Go, Java, Go or Perl.
- MySQL/SQL
- Basic skills in image manipulation using e.g. PhotoShop / Illustrator / GIMP.
- A keen eye for detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- An understanding of the principles behind great software design, allowing you to write code that’s clean, fast and scalable.
- A track record of remote working or working with remote team members.

In addition, one or more of these would be great to have:

- ES6, JSX.
- SEO.
- Database design, and/or query optimisation skills
- Familiarity with the Linux command line, bash, and Git
- Layer 2+3 networking
- HTTP, Apache2.
- Amazon AWS and/or Google Cloud.
- Copywriting.
- Android / iOS development.

You’re also someone who:

- Is open to new technologies, but isn’t a slave to them: you relish crafting elegant solutions to hard technical and business problems, using whatever is the best tool for the job.

- Thrives in a small, open and collaborative team, where the best ideas can come from anyone. You’re confident and articulate about what you know and what you don’t.

- Is passionate about any area of news or sport, or creating the best product for people who are.

- Lives within a reasonable distance of our London offices, or is comfortable working 100% remotely.

**About the company**

NewsNow is the UK’s largest independent free-to-web real-time news aggregator. A one-stop shop for news for 15m unique monthly visitors, we aim to be the best site on the web for those seeking news from all the angles. Running stably and profitably since our start in 1997, since 2009 we’ve been experiencing even greater commercial success as an industry leader in programmatic advertising technologies. In February, The Guardian ranked NewsNow among the top ten UK media publishers for news consumed by British people online.

We are always looking for new ways to reward the loyalty of our massive fan-base, and to grow our reach to new people seeking news from all the angles. We are a driver of quality in the news media and today set editorial standards for much of the content we link to.

Our highly experienced multi-disciplinary engineering team can afford to run lean. Our compact set-up lets us keep hierarchy and bureaucracy to a minimum. Which means today, we're still a company where everyone who joins us gets to make a massive impact. In short, we offer all the excitement and agility of a start-up, but with the stability and benefits of an established business.

We run a LAMP stack, which employs mostly OO code in Perl 5, ES5, NodeJS (ES5+ES6), Go, with some C running on Debian Linux, deployed on co-located raw metal and in the cloud. We do our client-side development in HTML5, CSS3, OO JavaScript and jQuery.

NewsNow is also very proud to be the first digital member of the DEC charity’s Rapid Response Network, which helps alert the UK public efficiently to its vital emergency fundraising appeals.

**Benefits**

- Fully paid Bupa private health insurance
- 34 days paid annual leave (incl. bank holidays)
- Childcare voucher scheme
- NEST pension scheme
- Competitive salary + bonuses
- MacBook
- Fully remote: work from home 100% of the time!
- Social activities
- Sabbatical proposals considered

_Contract position, 2-4 months, possibility of extension_
_40 hours / week_
_Remote/NYC_

The internet has a people problem.

Many online communities are fragile, toxic spaces. Some people have given up on engaging altogether. But we believe that healthy online communities can exist, given the right systems and tools – and that the future of journalism depends on strong online relationships.

That’s why Mozilla, The New York Times, and The Washington Post have come together as The Coral Project. We build industry-leading open source software that brings journalists and the communities they serve closer together.

We’re looking for a full-stack developer to join our team on a contract basis for at least the next 2-4 months, to help us create amazing user experiences on our open-source comment platform.

You have strong background in developing Node applications that are secure, scale, play well with other apps and are a pleasure to extend and maintain (or as close to pleasurable as maintenance can be.)

You’ll architect and implement features, and also have the opportunity to work with teams in newsrooms across the world who are integrating our platform onto their sites. You’ll work either from New York, inside the New York Times, or remotely.

This is a contractor role beginning asap.

What you have:

• Passion for improving the state of comments/community around journalism
• Strong Node JS application development experience
• Experience with MongoDB, especially aggregation pipelines
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work remotely

What you might have that would be great:

• Experience with GraphQL
• Use of the Apollo GraphQL client
• Experience with React and Redux
• Open Source experience

What you will do:

• Work in a delivery-based, agile environment, with a supportive, open, and diverse team that is primarily remote
• Work closely with product and tech stakeholders to deliver on stories, give feedback to team members via code reviews and architectural reviews, and contribute to making the product secure, solid, and user-friendly
• Participate in video team meetings, such as daily scrums/standups, sprint planning, and estimation sessions
• Contribute to the architecture of the application, with the goal of making it easy for open source contributors to build plugins and code that make the product sustainable in the long-term

Help us make the internet a better place for everyone!

If you’re deeply interested in working on full-stack development and have relevant skills and experience, please consider applying even if your background doesn’t perfectly match our ideal credentials. We are committed to diversity and especially encourage members of underrepresented communities to apply.

The initial contract will run through October 1st. There is a strong possibility of continuing with the project beyond that date.

HigherEducation.com partners with many of the most recognizable names in the online education industry to help them build their programs and expand student bases with our 75M annual site visitors. We also love to use cutting edge technologies to make developer life enjoyable and more productive.

We’re looking for an experienced, hands-on hybrid role of JavaScript Engineer and data scientist to join a major initiative at a critical point in our company’s growth. The ideal candidate (which means you, right?) will be responsible for debugging existing code bases and innovating new solutions through data science research. Other duties include enhancing & maintaining the core product, creating & maintaining the tests for various code repositories,

The position requires:
- Possess a rock-solid background in Computer Science (minimum BS in Comp Sci or related field) or at least 5 years of development experience in a challenging, fast paced environment.
- Demonstrated advanced proficiency in one or more of the following fields: Natural Language -
Processing, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Recommendation Systems.
- Server-side JavaScript (e.g. Node.js - Express, Koa, Hapi).
- Client-side JavaScript (e.g. React, MobX, Redux).
- Build tools (e.g. Gulp, Grunt, Browserify, Webpack).
- Exposure to AWS or other cloud platforms a plus.

Desired qualifications include experience with:
- Advanced degree is a plus but you're not just an academic -- you have hands-on software engineering experience applying complex algorithms to real-world problems at scale.
- Work effectively in agile teams; get stuff done with minimal guidance and zero BS, help others and know when to ask for help. Clearly communicate complex technical and product issues to non-technical team members, clients, etc.
- Bonus points for experience implementing machine learning algos on GPU's or other hardware acceleration!

What it's like

Last year, we had a blast. We personally enjoy getting rid of legacy code & turning servers off in favor of clean, new, tested services.

Each project is fairly small in scope with a large amount of flexibility and freedom to discuss & find the best architecture for the job and for the team. Usually, a single person heads up a project, collaborates with another for architecture & solutions, and eagerly looks forward to launching (rather than endlessly polishing).

- Slack for conversations.
- Asana for project tracking & deliverables.
- Github for code collaboration.
- DroneCI for CI & CD.

Being in a USA timezone is highly desirable.

For example...

In 2016 we...

- Built and deployed a central platform for managing monetization across our portfolio.
- Broke up an old monolith into smaller Docker services running on Rancher and got a solid, always-deploying CI/CD pipeline.
- Established a lightweight Agile process to aid developer efficiency from initiative to initiative.
- Worked with in house teams to conduct research in the frame of Recommendation Systems with a working prototype.

In 2017 we're...

- Building applications to expand the business into areas of organic growth.
- Refactoring and simplifying our micro-services ecosystem.
- Doubling down in a robust product recommendation approach to better serve our users.

Human Environment

- Centrally located in downtown Houston, free employee parking.
- Coed work environment, casual dress code.
- Cool office perks (e.g. sodas & coffee, happy hours, etc.).
- Generous salary considerations & full benefits.
- 6% 401k matching
- 100% health / vision / dental for you & subsidies for the rest of your family
- 15 vacation & sick days / yr.
- Gym membership reimbursement up to $100/mo

What We Value

We love to work as a team but office hours are flexible. Producing is more important than meeting a 9 to 5 schedule. We understand there are moments when you need to isolate yourself to concentrate so working from home is permitted and encouraged.

We like to have a good time and minimize stress with good in-office coffee, ping pong, lounge/reading time and regular happy hours. We work hard and meet realistic deadlines. What good is delivering a poor product early?

We also understand that family is important, so time-shifting (and sometimes day-shifting) is necessary to deliver for both the team & your family.

The esports space is booming, and we're in the middle of it, working with some of the largest teams in the world to help them create better rosters, and work more efficiently with their sponsors. Also, we're funded by some of the largest VCs in the world, and others that are the largest in Canada.

We build SaaS apps, and you'll be leading the development of one of our offerings. You'll have a complete static mockup along with front end assets, including a UI/UX team to help you make changes on the fly. This means we don't need you to worry about design & UI/UX. You'll have a very experienced DevOps team to help you with deployment. You'll also work with a product manager who can help you translate mockup into functioning code.

You'll build a tool that interfaces with some of the world's largest social networks. You'll be consuming many social APIs (including our own!), and use the resulting content to make the lives of esports teams better.

Our team is remote and experienced. We need you to be OK with the first attribute, and come loaded with the second. We love to play PC games during (solo) and outside of (group) working hours. Finally, you will not be micro managed. If you need that level of management, you're not the right fit.

Responsibilities:
Build and maintain a SaaS product used by the largest esports teams in the world.

Work with product management team to refine the product spec, and translate those specs into actual code.

Work with the UI/UX lead to translate static mockup into working front end code.

Implement custom analytics to help you understand how user cohorts are using the product you've developed, and then optimize for user experience accordingly.

Qualifications:
2+ years of experience working in tech startups. 3+ years of experience as a developer. The roller coaster is something you're comfortable with.

Able to build a SaaS app from the ground up with minimal supervision using a modern web framework (Django, Express, etc.)

Hands-on experience in web services (REST, OAuth etc.), API Development, and gateways/proxies.

Intermediate knowledge and experience with MySQL

Strong knowledge of client-side JS frameworks (Vue.js, React) and front-end tooling (Webpack, Gulp)

Skills:

- Frameworks

- APIs

- esports

- MySQL

- JavaScript

Additional Information:
Work with people who have done this before, including world class VCs.

A competitive startup salary

Stock options - a part of this company can be yours

If you apply for the job, mention any Twitch emotes somewhere in your application so we know you actually read this. If you don't, we'll just throw your app away (kappa).

First, allow me to tell you why you SHOULDN'T want to work for Flinks:
1. You're not driven by challenges.
2. You don't want to become financially independent.
3. You need to be babysat by a boss.

If you're the opposite of that, namely:
1. You're ready and willing to double the effort when the burndown is not going according to plan, and you realize the sprint is in jeopardy.
2. You aspire to build equity for yourself and want to work towards financial freedom.
3. You're a self-motivated team player that values autonomy.
Then, you might just be at the right place.

We are looking for an experienced Full Stack Developer to join our engineering team, either remote or in our Montréal Office, located at WeWork L’Avenue. This is a hands on coding position which will let you take part in building the Flinks.io platform and shaping its future.

What you'll do

You'll collaborate to build, maintain and streamline our large application, working with Ruby, Rails, Postgres and more. Some examples of the work you'll be doing include the following:

continually improving our fetching code, which grabs information about millions of properties throughout each day
integrating against a new REST api to give our customers even more info about a house
making our mobile website a more pleasant experience
rewriting a SQL query to be 100x faster
You'll have both the opportunity and the independence to tackle all kinds of challenges: some days you'll work on refactoring a legacy part of the app to make it do something new, and on others, you'll build a brand new, greenfield feature.
You

You care about both building and maintaining a clean, readable, well tested codebase. We're looking for someone with Ruby experience. We do Ruby, Rails, Postgres, plus JavaScript, CSS and HTML on the front end. We don't require you to know all of those, but you should be comfortable in Ruby, and familiar with Rails. You communicate and collaborate with the whole team, be it to work through tough code problems or clarify product specifications.

About Us
We're a small team focused on opening up the old school real estate world.
Our goal is to build the best place for people to browse, shop for, and buy homes.
We employ an iterative approach to building products and deploy multiple times a day.
We have a big vision.
We believe in hiring smart people and giving them the support and flexibility to succeed.
If you work locally, you'll be in a relaxed and fun office in the Belltown neighborhood.
We're looking to hire the best people wherever they are in the world. If you don't want to relocate to beautiful Seattle, you should be awesome at working from home and available to join our daily standup at 10am Pacific. Some developers live in Seattle and come into the Estately office, but the majority live and work remotely, including several who live outside of the United States. We've had remote developers since 2011, and are seasoned veterans of working with a distributed team, across multiple timezones.

Our Hiring Process

We don't believe in algorithmic interviews under hostile conditions. We'll never ask you to invert a binary tree on a whiteboard or interview you with five interviewers at the same time. We like our recruiting process to be transparent to you.

Finally, during the pairing exercises you'll pair with one of our developers to implement an (existing) feature in the app. This will take a couple hours or so, and will mostly consist of discussion about approach, with some coding in the midst of it.

**Wanted: Brilliant full-stack developer, long-term position, exciting company**

Hi there,

My name’s Kathryn. I work with entrepreneurs Till H. Gross and Edward Druce of Course Concierge.

Course Concierge is an online course publishing company that creates industry-leading online courses for NYT best-selling authors, TED speakers and YouTubers with millions of subscribers.

Our clients include YouTubers with 100,000,000+ views, one of the most hotly-followed health experts on Instagram, and a coach to NFL athletes, NBA players and U.S. special forces.

We’ve run over a dozen launches the past year alone, and we’re doing very well.

Check us out here: http://courseconcierge.com

For the right person, this is a Dream Opportunity — and dream company.

We’re one-year-old and growing, and we’re looking for a second developer to join our team of 12.

**If you are someone who…**

- Wants to excel in your career and take pride in active and stimulating work
- Is looking for a shot to prove yourself
- Gets excited at the prospect of learning a tremendous amount, with fast-paced and varied demands
- Has the ability to work within tight deadlines and juggle multiple tasks with poise
…this could be the opportunity you’ve been looking for.

**We’re a great company to join. Here’s why…**

- We’re young (just a year old) and you will be getting in at the ground level
- We have an unbelievably engaged team, with world-class people in every department (from video production to research to copywriting and design)
- Our clients are fantastic. We only take on a handful and are incredibly selective in who we work with
- We’re a remote company and you’ve the freedom to work from anywhere in the US.
- We’re going places.

**This position is the right fit for you if…**

- You are someone who completely understands how WordPress works at the code level. You have built your own custom themes/plugins and you know how to extend WordPress core.
- You understand how REST APIs work and you are comfortable consuming RESTful web services, either via the client (AJAX) or the server (PHP).
- You like finding smart and elegant solutions to coding problems, in line with WordPress coding and security best practices. Your code is clean, understandable and well commented.
- You have solid knowledge of PHP, MySQL, HTML, Javascript/JQuery, CSS. Experience on any kind of front-end framework (i.e. Bootstrap) or Javascript framework (React, Vue) is a plus.
- You are competent with version control systems (Git) and having experience with modern web development workflows and tools (Yarn, Gulp, Sass) is a plus.

**You need to…**

- Like a big workload and be comfortable working quickly. We like to get a lot done in a day and you will be pushed
- Welcome revisions and embrace our perfectionist tendencies (as well as our clients’)
- Help us refine our technical processes
- Be a clear and capable communicator. As a company we take writing seriously. Great English and attention to detail are essential.
- Be someone we love working with! Fit comes first, above everything else for us. If you don’t ‘spark joy’ for the team, no matter how good you are, we won’t take you.

Nearly all of our communication is written (we use Basecamp 3 and are big fans of it), but we’d like you to be comfortable getting on the occasional call too.

**You will be needed for the following…**

Throughout each project, we have five core needs for development.

**1. Lay the foundation**

Setup of a client’s domain and hosting, and integration of a payment gateway, membership plugin, affiliate plugin and email platform.
As a team, we consider ourselves ‘mixed online course artists’.
Most clients already have websites, hosting and email platforms. Whatever platforms they’re using, we need to be able to get on with them and have them work well together (minimising migrations as much as possible).
The one exception to this is we do everything on WordPress.

**2. Create a stunning email capture page**

Here are two examples from some of our clients…
https://theweekendwoodworker.com/
https://artofcoaching.com/

From our design team’s PSDs, everything you create needs to be wonderfully responsive, and no stone (from the thank you page to a nicely formatted confirmation email) left unturned.

**3. Build a long-form sales page**

Our designers make sales pages that are many thousands of words digestible and enticing to read. We need you to do their work justice.

**4. Creation of membership area**

Pick a favourite WordPress membership plugin and create a layout that houses a course with clear and simple navigation.
We always look to enhance the user experience for clients’ customers and deliver the best learning environment possible.

**5. Checkout page**

Making sure payments are taken, membership entitlements are correct and segments are created in a newsletter platform for buyers.
You know where we can get free SSLs and best practices for security.

*

The position will start at 20-25 hours per week, with a view to becoming near enough full-time in a matter of months. Pay will be set at a competitive hourly rate, fixed.

**To apply…**

Please write to kathryn@courseconcierge.com with ONE example of a responsive page you have coded, along with a brief pitch on why you think you’d be a great fit.

Do not send more than one link or your entry will be disqualified.

Do not apply through our website or your entry will be disqualified.

Also, please do not send a resume, CV or attachment of any kind. We don’t care where you went to college (or that you even went at all) — all that matters is whether you can do it.

We won’t be able to get back to everyone, but for those who stand out, we will send a list of interview questions in writing, then, for the few we like best, set up a brief call to discuss the opportunity.

The deadline for submissions is June 10, though those who apply sooner have an advantage.

We will pick two candidates from interviews to begin a paid two-week trial (to assess on-the-job performance and cultural fit). One person will then be chosen for the ongoing role.

Thank you for reading. Best of luck, and I look forward to hearing from you!

Kathryn
