Leveraged by millions of user every day, EMS Software manages some of the highest profile spaces in the world (including the NASDAQ bell). We are consistently delivering new features to our suite of products. We want tackle bigger challenges and accomplish some truly amazing things. Our team is always improving our codebase and operations footprint and we have amassed a sizeable backlog of interesting challenges and product initiatives. Our team needs to grow to enable even greater success in our industry, and that is where you come in.

This year

HEADLINE: STARTUP CHANGING WORLD SEEKS AWESOME HUMAN BEINGS WHO KNOW FREQUENT FLYER TRAVEL AND HUSTLE.

We're looking for a smart, dedicated operations associate with deep experience and passion for reward travel. Our ideal candidate dreams about the best current credit card offers and knows United Airlines' award chart off the top of their head.

Maybe you've worked at a startup - but maybe not. You're diligent, hard-working, and you learn quickly. You can think strategically, but understand that much of the work at this stage is in the details.

About us:

Jane on Main St. has an ever tightening budget and 19,000 miles orphaned across United and American Airlines frequent flyer accounts. Free reward travel is tremendously exciting - yet impossibly complicated, due to an ever-changing ecosystem of multiple programs and offers, airline alliances, and award redemption charts.

SlingShot is here to make it easy. We collect Jane's preferred destinations, spending patterns, credit info and more across 20+ data points, then turn it into a custom-tailored, actionable plan to get her where she wants to go - for free, by applying for the most relevant, effective credit card out of a sea of hundreds.

We don't stop there - after her first trip, we continue to help her optimize her personal finance and travel throughout the customer lifecycle, so that when she thinks travel, she thinks free travel, and when she thinks free travel, she thinks SlingShot.

We’re on a mission to help more people visit more places, expanding on a $30bn TAM as we show America that responsible use of credit can open the door to traveling the world.

We deeply believe that in an increasingly disconnected world, bridging cultures through travel is the path towards a more inclusive, peaceful world.

About our team:

SlingShot's team is completely remote. We subscribe to Buffer's ideology around transparency, culture, and location independence. We expect our folks to be the best, regardless of where they are and when they work.

What you'll do:

As an early stage startup employee, you'll have access to all parts of the business. Your primary responsibility will be putting together comprehensive plans for our users and consulting with them to answer any questions - this is where you will spend 90% of your time. But it doesn't stop there - candidates who show strategic thinking and attention to detail will have input into operational processes, marketing campaigns, and more.

We use a full suite of tools and web apps to serve our clients - you'll quickly learn the ins and outs of each platform, and come up with new suggestions to streamline systems.

About the position:

This position currently pays $15 an hour and starts part-time. The right candidate may have an opportunity for a full-time position within three to six months, depending on business needs and their skill set.

Extra tags: operations, marketing, hustle, GSD

The Kickback Support Team handles more than 1,000 requests per day and is available 24/7. We're opening an office in Las Vegas and looking to fill it up!

The Opportunity

At Litmus we build cutting edge tools to help email marketers. We're used by over 100,000 email marketers all around the world and have partnerships with the best in the industry including MailChimp, Campaign Monitor, Experian and more.

We’re bootstrapped, profitable and proud. You’ll be working with our team of developers and operations engineers building cool stuff, with amazing people.

As our environment grows, we're looking for a sysadmin to manage the day to day running of our infrastructure.

You have:

  • Natural troubleshooting skills: comfortable investigating any problem, knowing when to ask for help
  • Strong analytical skills: identifying and predicting problems, collecting data to support your conclusions
  • Solid knowledge of Windows and TCP/IP networking
  • Experience running a production environment on AWS
  • Experience with Active Directory design and implementation
  • A level of comfort with Linux
  • Decent PowerShell chops

It would be helpful, but not essential, to have a familiarity with Ansible, C# .NET, and/or Ruby

    You would:

  • Interface with hosting provider(s)
  • Monitor servers and services, ensuring they are fault tolerant and up-to-date, including log reporting & visualization, applying OS upgrades, security patches
  • Managing our configuration automation and server deployment (Ansible)
  • Tune production environment performance (.NET, IIS, Redis, MySQL).
  • Recommend and apply best practices where sensible
  • Manage SSL certificates, domain renewals, DNS changes, firewall / iptable updates, MySQL database maintenance (users, privileges)
  • Participate in 24x7 on-call rotation for the infrastructure with the engineering team

    Why should I choose Litmus?

We offer everything you'd expect from a successful and profitable startup, except we've been going strong for eight years.

  • Great salary, comprehensive health care benefits, 28 days paid vacation (yes, on top of public holidays!)
  • The technology - it's always the latest stuff and very diverse
  • The best tools money can buy. Every sysadmin has gets the equipment they need to be awesome
  • When in town, our office space is amazing. It includes killer views of MIT, Harvard and Boston, an Xbox with Kinect, beer fridge and Sonos sound system. We also provide a catered lunch.
  • If you're remote, we'll fly you out to Boston regularly and you can stay in our wonderfully furnished company apartment.

Here’s what some of our crew have to say about Litmus:

“Everyone. Gives. A. Shit. (about the tech, the products, the customers, each other). Trust and ownership are important here. We build products that scratch our own itch. We experiment, we celebrate (big things (like throwing a launch party), and small (beers at the end of the week)). Oh, and there’s no red tape, bullshit posturing, timecards or org charts!”

    Eddie, Lead Ruby Developer

“Aside from software architecture and syntax, there hasn’t been a task that I have begun that I have known how to do. It is a constant learning experience and we often times find ourselves building things that have never been built before.”

    Justin, C# Developer

“We’re in charge of our own future and aren’t beholden by a board, investors or anyone else. I feel like the people I work for care more for our customers and their employees than most other companies do.”

    Justine, Marketing

“Super cool office! – Our office is amazing and we do a lot of cool things here. Kinect + beer fridays + fun :) It’s also easy to get to and a great location.”

    Danielle, Support Manager

“The founders are in the thick of it. Also, the collective responsibility, I feel like I could rely on any team member for help.“

    James, Account Manager

If you live near Cambridge then we’d love to welcome you to the office, if you want to relocate to beautiful Boston then that’s wonderful as well (provided you can already legally work in the USA). If you don’t live nearby then that’s ok too. We already have remote members of the team and are happy to speak to great folks wherever they are in the world.

    We don't work with recruiters.

Part-time contract position with room to grow, 25-30 hours/week

We're on the hunt for the perfect ops assistant who can help keep our amazing crew of remote workers happy, productive, and totally gruntled. You'll be working with our Ops Advocate to help us grow the team behind Edgar, our social media management tool!

ABOUT YOU

Nothing makes you happier at work than an efficiently-run business doing its thing! (Well, nothing except maybe doughnuts.) Your inner nerd takes profound joy in all the obscure details that need to be managed to keep metaphorical wheels turning smoothly - and you LOVE being the person pulling strings behind the scenes to make it all come together. “Puppetmaster” has kind of a negative connotation, but you get it.
You're super interested in how companies shape and define awesome employee experiences, and you’re ready to put your People Ops skills to work shaping the future of Edgar’s already-pretty-rad remote work culture. You're a people person who can work with everybody on the team, from helping them get situated when they first join the company to fielding questions about benefits, paperwork, and whether they can expense a weekly session with Sven, their private masseuse. (The answer: Nej!)

You find the idea of sorting out employment rules for different states exhilarating, not exhausting - in fact, you wanna collect team members from all 50 someday! You're a master of following up, 'cause you know that an email today could save us 126 hours on the phone with the state of New Jersey six months from now (you know what you did, NJ). And since we're a remote company, you're comfortable with learning new technologies and computer-ing of all kinds - your Google Fu is strong, and you can adjust the clock on even the most confusing of microwaves.

Out there in the world, you're the one your friends and family count on to organize the most epic family reunions, summer road trips, and backyard barbecues of all time - you make sure all the vital details are covered, from finding the best deals on activities to making sure nobody gets lost, confused, or accidentally left behind at a roadside diner, never to be seen again.

Like Wonder Woman’s handbag, you’re super clutch. Getting things done is your jam, even though it doesn’t go all that well with peanut butter. Basically, you love people, and want to be one of the big reasons their life is just as fulfilling between the hours of 9 and 5 as it is outside.

JOB DEETS CHEAT SHEET

  • You live somewhere in the USA (or North America)
  • You're available 25-30 hours per week and will work a regular schedule within normal (North American) business hours
  • Responsibilities would include helping our Ops Advocate with things like onboarding new team members, planning our twice-annual team retreats, coordinating other fun team activities, admin assistance, and managing our small (but mighty) menu of perks
  • You = detail-oriented, super good at planning and follow-up, proactive, creative, self-motivated
  • Edgar = great team, great perks, super productive and fun work environment, octopus with glasses

ABOUT US

We’re a small team of 16 people, all working remotely across the US & Canada. We do a lot of collaborating and meme-swapping on Slack, along with virtual team meetings and super-futuristic video calls. We also do a twice-annual meetup week where we work together on cool projects all day and rock the karaoke mic all night.

We’re proudly bootstrapped and profitable, which means we get to turn down VC money a lot and keep doing things the way we like. We’re pretty serious about building and maintaining an awesome, positive company culture, so, you know, no jerks.

We'll probably get along if you’re someone who wants to be creative, have a pretty-serious-but-not-inhuman amount of responsibility, and work with people who make going to work not suck. (And be one of those people yourself. We like those people.)

You can find out more at http://meetedgar.com/careers/ and by watching this video (please watch, it was mad expensive): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvU3P43b0rQ

PERKS

  • Work from home (or wherever there’s strong wifi)
  • Monthly cleaning service for your home - not that we don't have total faith in you
  • Paid home Internet service or coworking space/coffee shop working expenses
  • Books, conferences, and other educational resources to help you be even more amazing at what you do!
  • An extra paid day off per quarter so you can volunteer in your community (awww)
  • Twice-annual company retreats (that you’d get to help plan!)

About the Position

Nothing lifts a company’s growth more than amazing customer operations. When one of our customers reaches out to us, they need to be connected not just with someone who can understand the details of their problem and find a solution, but someone smart who uses both sides of their brain. Someone who can quickly get up to speed on their business, figure out the fundamental reasons they are having their problem in the first place, and be an educator who can use the operations question as an opportunity to improve the customer’s fundamental MemSQL knowledge.

If you are that person, we need to talk.

MemSQL is an in-memory, distributed database with absolutely jaw dropping performance. Our customers, who generate some of the most interesting data in the world, are pushing boundaries with MemSQL every day, and it will be your job to support them. It almost goes without saying that is no ordinary support job. Most problems that come in do not have an existing playbook, and so to be successful you’ll need to think outside the box, be a great technical problem solver, instantly master systems you’ve never seen before, and knock aside all the technical barriers keeping a customer from being successful.

Technical Requirements

  • A solid dev-ops / sysadmin skillset. That means you are hands-on with Linux. You know three ways to find a file, resize a partition, measure network throughput or any other Linux task.
  • You’ve reached distributed systems nirvana. You’ve figured out how to deploy and maintain distributed applications and services across multiple machines without painful repetition. You also know how to analyze them for performance bottlenecks and to remove single points of failure
  • You script for fun and profit. Whether it’s Python, BASH, Perl, or even Erlang, you should have a go-to solution for quick and dirty problem solving.
  • Experience with SQL Query Optimization. You should be familiar enough with at least one commercial or open source database to decipher its EXPLAINS and tune queries to improve performance.

General Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in any field
  • Delightful written and verbal communication
  • Experience building great process around support. Ticket triage, escalation, and reporting business metrics back to the organization.
  • Passion for what a great customer engineering organization can do

We are looking for someone who can work PST or EST shifts from 9am - 6pm. Your actual location is unimportant :)

About You

You come from a professional services background (PwC, Bain, JWT) and understand staffing, utilization, budget / pipeline forecasting activities, and customer satisfaction.

You love complex logistics and get excited about managing consultant's schedules as complex as those involved in a NASA space launch.

You bring rigorous analysis to financial modeling in order to scale logistics and operations in innovative ways. You enjoy improving things, but can live with ambiguity and a fast-paced environment where not everything ticks & ties.

You can develop strategic plans and are comfortable mapping overall resource requirements.

You’re an ace with ad hoc analysis; you can hone in on the levers that affect a decision and code them in a Google spreadsheet. You’re comfortable delivering bad news and contrarian opinions because you know the true value of critical reports and strategic recommendations.

You are a change agent. You don’t shy away from "the new" and can implement processes and systems with ease. You prosper in chaos!

About Clevertech

15 years developing apps has taught us this: Build people, then products.

We’re aware that solid engineering practices and our love of Agile principles aren’t enough to ensure that we translate our clients’ dreams into software that shapes the world.

Our team of nearly 100 developers and designers are what make it possible.

They’ve rejected offers from Google and Twitter. They’re parents, travelers, or aspiring entrepreneurs. Some are in the planning stages of launching their own startups. Here’s what they have in common:

Here’s how it works:

  • Schedules are flexible—you work when you're in flow, from wherever you wish
  • You focus on one client at a time; when you're finished with one, we provide another

Overview

Brief Description

Azavea is a civic technology firm that uses geospatial data to build software and data analytics for the web.  We’re excited about what we do, we're growing, and we hope you will join us.

Azavea is based in Philadelphia, and we are looking to grow our Operations team to support new cloud computing operations capacity.  Azavea both builds custom web apps and SaaS in several civic domains, including:  climate change, urban ecosystem management, public safety, watersheds, and elections.

We are looking for

We’re looking for an Operations Engineer (devops) who enjoys the intricacies of deploying and scaling an application as much as building it.  We are looking for a person that is passionate about building and operating software that will have a positive impact –someone interested in public service, but not necessarily in working for a government or a non-profit organization, and someone who enjoys working in a variety of technology environments.

Skills & Requirements

Who we are and what we’re doing

As a B Corporation, we’re committed to working on projects that have social and civic impact and advancing the state-of-the-art through research.  Most of our customers are local governments, non-profit organizations and academic or federal research projects.  We build custom apps; perform geospatial analysis; manage several open source civic software projects (DistrictBuilder, OpenTreeMap and others); and develop an open source, high performance computing framework, GeoTrellis, that enables us to build fast analytical applications by distributing the geospatial data processing.  Our developers work across the technology stack, from the server to the database to the front-end.

Half of our colleagues are software engineers and most of the rest are fairly technical, so we don’t have a lot of traditional IT support requirements, but much of our work is increasingly based on Amazon Web Services cloud infrastructure, and we believe that investments made in automated deployment and management processes are important to improving productivity, software quality and user experience.  In addition, over the past year we have deployed three new SaaS products, OpenTreeMap, Cicero, and HunchLab, that are based on AWS.  These new products rely on auto-scaling, EC2, VPC, S3, SWF, RDS and other services and APIs.  While our software developers are all experienced with AWS, as more of our customers rely on these new SaaS products, we are interested in expanding our capacity to research, monitor, optimize, and adapt our infrastructure to changing conditions.

What you’ll do:

  • Work with our software teams and the Director of Operations to build out and maintain our IT infrastructure, particularly as it relates to Amazon Web Services.

  • Engage in multidisciplinary work that applies an agile process to system architecture, software development, testing and deployment.

  • Optimize database, server and client performance to create applications with both functional and responsive user experiences.

  • Contribute to both a growing company and to the open source communities that support our work.

You should:

  • Know your way around Linux systems.

  • Experience architecting solutions based on Amazon Web Services, Rackspace or Google Compute Engine.

  • Demonstrate experience with automated deployment, continuous integration, and source control.

  • Know how to build and support scalable web applications in a variety of languages (Python, Scala, Go).

  • Demonstrate familiarity with networking and security concepts.

  • Be interested in working with a small, collaborative team on meaningful projects.

  • Get excited about a diversity of both projects and technologies.

You get extra points for:

  • Demonstrating your open source or other community service contributions

  • Experience with core web technologies (HTML/CSS/JS) and contemporary frameworks like jQuery, Angular, Backbone, and Bootstrap.

  • A good understanding of MVC architecture and RESTful design patterns

  • Experience with configuration management tooling (Chef, Ansible, Puppet) and application containerization techniques.

  • Familiarity with web and AWS security best practices.

You’ll notice that we don’t say “X-Y years of experience” or “M.S. in Computer Science.”  Formal credentials like these are not irrelevant, but we are primarily looking for people who have had experience successfully building sophisticated web applications.  You might have had these kinds of experiences without a college degree.  Or you may be just out of school but worked your way through school and had some great co-op experiences.  Or you might have a math or humanities background but a have a great head for software development.  These are all potentially great backgrounds, and we’d be interested in hearing from you.

Office and Benefits

Our Philadelphia office is located in a brightly lit office on the 4th floor of a converted factory building in the Callowhill neighborhood, a short walk from Center City, the Reading Terminal Market and SEPTA subway and regional rail stations.  For bicyclists, we have in-house bike parking, a shower and lockers.  It’s an open office plan with several smaller rooms for team meetings, private space and concentration time.  You get a top-end Linux workstation, Mac or Windows laptop with a pile of memory for VMs and extra monitors.  We have flex-time to deal with personal stuff, and most people work a 40 – 45 hour week on a regular schedule.  After the first six months, our developers can also spend up to 10% of their time on a geospatial open source, professional development, or R&D project.  For example, some of our colleagues are contributors to the PostGIS, OpenLayers, GDAL and GeoTrellis projects.  Other research projects have included improving dev ops tool chains; using FFT for fast kernel density estimation; working with Spark to develop machine learning tools; and hijacking GPUs for raster data processing.  Once a quarter, we all get together to share our research and learning with our colleagues.

We offer a salary commensurate with skills and experience and a benefits package that includes:

  • Fully subsidized health care, dental, prescription plan, including for spouse/partner and children

  • Medical reimbursement plan to cover what the health insurance does not

  • Retirement plan with matching percentage

  • Almost 4 weeks paid vacation plus sick/personal time off

  • Family and medical leave

  • Flexible work schedule

  • Paid maternity and paternity leave

  • Paid time off for voting and volunteering

  • Education assistance plan

  • Student loan assistance

  • Public transit and biking reimbursement plans

  • Monthly lunches on the house

  • 10% time for Research or Training Projects

  • Profit-sharing bonus plan

  • Financial transparency through an open book policy

  • Supremely awesome colleagues

We welcome qualified candidates from all walks of life and value diversity in our company, and we prohibit discrimination based on race, color, religion, ancestry, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, veteran status, military service, disability unrelated to job requirements, marital status, or domestic partner status.

You'll be managing a team of top-notch developers, liaising with our customers to gather requirements for discussion, and planning future sprints/releases. Translating between the languages of the developer and the customer, while keeping communications smooth will be your number one skill!

Feature development/release, maintenance, operations and support will be coordinated, efficient and of a high quality. While the role doesn't include testing or UAT, you'll fully understand and review releases to maximise customer happiness.

Since we all work remotely, your written communication must be excellent! Besides Trello discussions with customers, you'll put together epic release notes and a brief 'achievements' presentation for our sprint retrospectives.

We all get involved in helping out with support, improving documentation and so on, plus we automate wherever we can. That means you'll always be on the lookout for new ideas to suggest/discuss/implement with the team.

You'll report to the managing director, and be expected to contribute in key discussions around long-term product development and vision, as well as goals for business growth.

Work from home, or wherever you like really

We love working remotely, so above all, you need to be comfortable in that environment or be willing to try something new. This means you get to choose where you work, providing you're suitably drenched in wi-fi and in reach of Trello/Slack. We're all about the output, and trust you to do a great job wherever you are.

That said, a lot of the team live in Leicester so usually meet up in person every week or two with lunch on us, just because it's nice to do so. And we work closely with our customers, so it's likely you'll need to say hello to them in person a couple of times a year too.

With great power, comes great responsibility

Attention to detail, clear written skills and the ability to work in a team are essential.

Since we're not usually all in the same room, you absolutely must be able to communicate well, and share progress often. That doesn't mean we interrupt/distract each other though, as we're firm believers in being approachable through asynchronous working.

We'll expect you to be constantly learning and developing your skills, and to be fully involved in sprint planning, retros and daily scrums along with all the developers and our project manager.

WE’RE HIRING AN OPERATIONS NINJA

Do you love travel and spreadsheets?

If you’re obsessed with travel, ridiculously detail oriented (a perfectionist to a fault), and passionate about systems and processes, you may be the perfect fit for our globally-distributed team!

A DREAM JOB FOR THE RIGHT PERSON

This is an amazing opportunity for someone who is smart, ambitious, and incredibly organized.
Join a fun and dynamic company, work from nearly anywhere in the world, and live and breathe travel.

Know someone that’s perfect for the job? Please share this post with them!

WHO ARE WE?

We are a fast growing travel company that specializes in crafting bespoke journeys for savvy travelers from around the world.

Apart from the unique experiences we offer our clients, it is our extreme attention to detail that helps us ensure that each of our travelers has an amazing trip.

As part of your job, you’ll be working closely with one of our founders on our core company (and possibly on a new venture we are launching), as well as with our lovely travelers and suppliers.

We love what we do, and get to work with fascinating people from around the world.

We’d love for you to join us!

WHO ARE YOU?

We are hiring an Operations Ninja to join our team and help us “level up” our operational and support sophistication.

Travel industry operations experience is a plus, but not a requirement.

Your primary mission – should you choose to accept it – is to provide our travelers with a seamless, worry-free and wonderful experience, from the moment a trip is booked, until after our clients have returned home from their trip.

You’ll be responsible for communicating with our travelers and suppliers throughout this process, and for all the behind-the-scenes work that ensures they have an amazing trip.

Superlative speaking and writing skills (including spelling and grammar) are essential. Expertise in over-the-top Zappos-style customer service is a huge plus.

The position requires an obsessive attention to the smallest details, and the ability to think well outside the box. It is painstaking work that requires a ninja-like, almost superhuman ability to focus on tiny details.

WHAT TO EXPECT

You’ll spend the first few weeks with us learning about our business, beginning to master all of your tasks and responsibilities, and providing our customers and suppliers with amazing service.

After you have mastered these skills you will embark on the greater mission: finding and developing ways to improve our systems and processes, so they are more efficient, easier to execute, and – most importantly – increasingly better for our clients.

A huge part of your job will be to continually discover and fix operational weaknesses, and you must have a proven track record of being able to manage yourself.

Even if you have no travel industry experience at all, if you have relevant experience and can convince us that you are perfect for this job, we want to hear from you.

Know someone that’s perfect for the job? Please share this post with them!

TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Here is a sampling of the types of tasks and responsibilities you’ll be in charge of. If these tasks don’t make sense to you yet, don’t worry. After joining our team, you’ll be trained in a broad range of skills, including the following and more:

  • Preparing, revising and proofreading detailed trip itineraries (in our business, the details are everything)
  • Helping our clients enjoy memorable and stress-free travels by arming them with important trip details, essential pre-departure information, and answering pre-trip questions
  • Communicating extensively with suppliers (e.g., hotels, guides, etc.) to coordinate services
  • Staying on top of continually evolving client support tasks, and ensuring nothing falls through the cracks
  • Following detailed SOPs (standard operating procedures) to complete tasks with total accuracy – and, most importantly, updating SOPs as processes evolve
  • Identifying and fixing operational weaknesses so that our systems and processes continually evolve to be more efficient, easier to execute, and increasingly better for our clients

Expertise in the following is a plus but not required:

  • Asana and/or Trello
  • Google Apps
  • SOPs
  • Spreadsheets
  • Zapier

There is a lot of room for growth in this position, and depending on your skills and the circumstances, you will probably also have the opportunity to work in other areas of our business – one of the many pluses of joining a small and dynamic team.

    IMPORTANT DETAILS

This is not an easy job, and you will be working full time. But you won’t be working from a cubicle (unless cubicles are your thing), because the position is remote, i.e., location-independent.

    YOUR LOCATION

With a headquarters in California, our company is US-based but location-independent, which means that you can work from almost anywhere in the world you please – provided you have infallible Internet.

Don’t think this means you’ll be on vacation: whether you’re working from Tokyo, Perth, Barcelona or elsewhere, you will be working hard and tackling difficult but invigorating challenges.

It will be up to you where to set up base.

As a close-knit team, we will speak often by Skype, Slack and email – and meet in person when possible. But if you have a feeling that working remotely might not work for you, you may be right. Many people prefer the structure and interaction of in-person office positions, and remote work can be lonely and challenging – it’s definitely not for everyone.

    YOUR SCHEDULE

This is a full-time job with a fairly flexible schedule.

We are extremely results oriented, and while we will provide a lot of guidance and support (we want you to succeed!), you must have a proven track record of being able to successfully manage yourself.

While we are generally not as concerned about which hours you work (you won’t be clocking in and out), you will have daily, weekly and other regular deliverables that must be completed on time.

You will also need to coordinate your schedule to speak in real time with the rest of the team (via Skype and Slack), which – depending on your location – may require flexible time zone coordination on your part. Particularly at the beginning, we will speak in real time several days a week and often daily.

Know someone that’s perfect for the job? Please share this post with them!

    COMPENSATION

Pay will be dependent on experience and skills.

Working hard and thinking outside the box pays off here, and there is a lot of room for growth.
For the right person there will be many opportunities to increase your level of responsibility and compensation.

I’M READY TO APPLY! WHAT ARE THE NEXT STEPS?

This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the right person.

Applications are due by September 15th – however, we are looking to fill the position as soon as possible, so don’t wait until the due date to apply.

To get the process started please begin by sending us the requested application info.

If you’re thinking about applying but worried you might not have enough ____ (insert random excuse here) – don’t worry. You’re probably better than you think.

Even if you’re not applying, if you think this sounds like an amazing opportunity please share it through email, Facebook, Twitter and/or Instagram!

Rocana's infrastructure engineering team designs, builds, and tests distributed data collection, storage, and processing systems. The systems we build handle billions of events per day, and underpin some of the most demanding applications. Engineers who are interested in high throughput, concurrent, data management systems will feel at home thinking about data durability and consistency, serialization, storage formats, failure scenarios, reducing operational complexity, and building systems that function in practice as well as theory.

Some of the technology we use:

  • Java, Go, C/C++
  • Hadoop, Solr, Kafka, Impala, Hive, Spark
  • AWS, Jenkins, Github, JIRA

All teams at Rocana care about developing customer empathy, people over technology, consensus over competition, team success over personal, allowing failure and supporting success, listening before talking, open decision making, and diversity and inclusiveness.

The initial thrust of this position is to ensure compatibility between Java APIs with different Distros. In addition, this infrastructure engineer will be contributing to our core product.

    You:

  • Have experience managing different versions of the same API for various distributions of Hadoop
  • Experience with class loaders, and building Java apps servers or building out the Spring framework is highly desirable.
  • Understand hardware and OS fundamentals. You know what cache lines and context switches are. You can describe how IO works in Linux, and what syscalls like madvise() do.
  • Can describe the Java memory model, synchronization and concurrency primitives, and GC behavior under normal and pathological conditions. Oh, and you can write code too.
  • Have a working knowledge of the internals of databases, file-systems, messaging systems, and other data infrastructure.
  • Have a working knowledge of common data management, data warehousing, ETL, and stream processing theory.
  • Have a working knowledge of network protocols and standards.
  • Can easily put your ideas in writing.
  • Aren’t afraid to learn/switch programming languages based on the task.
  • Aren’t afraid to say, “I don’t know, but let’s find out!”
  • Seek feedback from everyone, especially those with whom you disagree.
  • Seek to understand prior to debate, and know when to stop debating.
  • Don’t always have to be right.
  • Are a smart person who’s passionate about helping others.
  • Take pride in your teams' accomplishments.
  • Are willing to take risks and overcome failures.

    We:

  • Are a distributed company, and as such require self-driven, high output people.
  • Care about creating a company, culture, and product we all love.
  • Focus on how to help customers be successful, and on what we achieve as a team.
  • Know that if you are happy and engaged, you’ll be/do your best.
  • Want to help you achieve your ambitions, so we can achieve ours.
  • Want you to develop skills and grow professionally, but we do not tolerate politics.
  • Use titles to reflect responsibility, not status.
  • Distribute authority and decisions as much as possible.

Solve Hard Problems With a Team of Infrastructure Pros

NSONE is based in New York City with offices in San Francisco and Singapore. We’re a world class team of internet infrastructure experts, working on deep solutions to real world traffic management problems, and operating a large global delivery infrastructure powered by bleeding edge technology.

Tight-knit, customer focused, driven by innovation

NSONE is not a sprawling, hierarchy addled behemoth. We are lean and fast, and there’s a tight loop among our entire team. We’re all about automation, intelligent distributed systems, and quick iteration.

The role

We’re looking to add a new core member to our small but fast growing engineering team: an experienced DevOps engineer who can dive in to our extensively automated network of global infrastructure, summoning their deep technical background to drive new innovation in the tools and systems that run our cutting edge traffic management platform.

We’re looking for an autodidact who can immerse themselves in our globally distributed infrastructure immediately, leveraging existing technical strengths and teaching themselves the systems that are new to them. You should have broad knowledge of the technologies in modern infrastructure operations and automation, offering constructive advice for improvements, while being able to use and scale the systems in our existing platform. You’ll take responsibility for the quality of your code, and your daily work will have an immediate company-wide impact.

Some stuff you’ll work on:

  • Deployment automation
  • Monitoring, metrics collection and alerting
  • Continuous build and testing systems
  • Linux system maintenance and platform security
  • Traffic load balancing, filtering, and DDoS mitigation tools
  • Messaging, persistent DB and caching systems

    Technologies

We like to find the right tool for the job, and we’ll expect your sage advice to help make future decisions on which technologies should power our platform (and why they are best). Whatever the technology, we strive for provably maintainable, scalable, and secure systems.

We run a custom stack in a very distributed network with infrastructure in various environments around the globe. Some tools we’re currently using to tie it all together include:

  • Ansible
  • Redis
  • Linux
  • MongoDB
  • Vagrant
  • RabbitMQ
  • Python (Twisted)
  • Hadoop/HDFS/OpenTSDB
  • Grafana
  • BPF and packet analysis

    Working @ NSONE

We’re a small, well funded startup with a casual work environment and strong work ethic. There’s a lot to do so we keep meetings and process to a minimum. We’re headquartered in NYC’s Financial District. We like to have fun, but skip most of the fancy startup gimmicks (fresh beer yes, gourmet chef and afternoon yoga no). We prefer candidates local to NYC or SFO, but will happily consider well qualified remote employees.

    We offer:

  • competitive compensation (salary and stock options)
  • medical, dental, and vision
  • commuter benefits
  • 401k
  • flexible hours and time off

NSONE is an equal opportunity employer.

Job Responsibilities

  • Make sure our infrastructure stays up and running 24/7.

  • Repair nodes as they fail and deploy new hardware as we scale our infrastructure.

  • Perform task related to deploying new software, managing DNS, maintaining OS security patches, etc.

  • We have an existing infrastructure that you will be managing for the next 90 days as we transition to our new stack.

  • Deploy new systems and scale our infrastructure as we expand our capacity for more content and customers.

Ideal Candidate

This position can be located anywhere in the world with ideally at least a 4 hour overlap with the Pacific Standard Time Zone (PST / UTC-8). We're based out of San Francisco but are migrating to the international level. If you don't have a natural time overlap with UTC-8 you should be willing to work evenings to be able to communicate easily with the rest of the team.

Culturally, we’re a remote company and want to embrace it as a way to reward our employees. We are fine with you working in remote locations as long as you’re generally available for communication and are productive.

The plan is to transfer all operations management to you, including being on call for outages, and knowing our operations tasks including bringing up new machines, dealing with failures, etc.

We want someone to come in full time as a contractor role. I suspect we will need about 40 hours from you per week.

Architecture:

Our infrastructure consists of Java on Linux (Debian/Ubuntu) with the stack running on ActiveMQ, Cassandra, Zookeeper, and Jetty. We use Ansible to manage our boxes. We have a full-text search engine based on Elasticsearch and store our firehose API data within Cassandra.

We have a totally new stack and infrastructure at this point. We recently did a full-stack rewrite and moved all the old code to our new infrastructure. This means we have very little legacy cruft to deal with.

Here's all the cool stuff you get to play with:

  • Large Linux / Ubuntu cluster running with the OS versioned using both Ansible and our own debian packages for software distribution.

  • Massive amount of data indexed from the web and social media.  We index from 5-20TB of data per month and want to expand to 100TB of data per month.

  • Large Cassandra install on SSD.

  • SOLR / Elastic Search migration / install.  We’re experimenting with bringing this up now so it would be valuable to get your feedback.

Compensation:

  • Salary based on experience. We're willing to be competitive and a great company to work for.

  • Ability to work remotely at home. Live work balance is a must.

As a Site Reliability Engineer at ReactiveOps, your primary goal will be to ensure our client’s applications are available, fast, and secure. Our clients need the best service, support, and products, and we need you to help us deliver.

JOB DESCRIPTION

At ReactiveOps, we offer two main products: DevOps consulting and managed operations. Through DevOps consulting, we write infrastructure automation, migrate to high-availability solutions, and craft Docker/CoreOS microservices architectures for our clients. You’ll work directly with clients to ensure their goals are met through automation, analysis, and infrastructure configuration.

Via managed operations, we act as our client's “outsourced, in-house DevOps team”, on top of AWS and other cloud vendors, as best meets our client’s needs. You’ll manage globally load balanced AWS installations, cross-datacenter replication on different vendors, or within client’s data-centers.

No matter the product, we take a DevOps-centric approach with our clients - we believe that we provide amazing service and our clients get the best value when we work closely together. We integrate task trackers (Pivotal, Trello, Asana), chat (Slack, Hipchat), and source control (github) into our own workflow through careful and clever use of automation, giving our clients the ability to contact us like they would with an internal DevOps team but without an operational burden on us.

You’ll work with virtualization and container technologies like Docker, CoreOS, Kubernetes, OpenStack, Vagrant, and Ansible. You will setup and automate high availability data clusters (MySQL Galera, PostgreSQL replication, Redis cluster, ElasticSearch clustering, Memcached, MongoDB etc.), application instances for technologies like Ruby-on-Rails, Django, Node, and Scala (to name a few). You'll engineer management, orchestration, monitoring, and alerting for fleets of instances. If you’ve ever wanted to work at a scale that few companies do, you’ll find the right challenge here at ReactiveOps!

We all work from home and have a “Remote First” culture. We are a Results-Only Work Environment, have a transparent and public technical ladder, minimum vacation policy and unlimited time off, and require healthy work-life balance. We pay 100% of individual and family health insurance premiums, participate in 401k match and have been bootstrapped and profitable since our founding. All employees participate in quarterly profit sharing, and we all get together for periodic all-expenses-paid retreats.

We're hiring across experience bands from mid to senior levels.

We are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity at our company. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform DevOps-focused consulting work for diverse clients
  • Create and maintain system architecture, design, and automation
  • Pair with other SRE/SAs, mentor junior staff
  • Release and maintain open-source software and projects
  • Author blog posts and participate in the community by going to meetups, conferences, etc. as a ReactiveOps representative
  • Manage availability and performance problems for clients; automate resolution to prevent re-occurrence

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proficient in Ruby, Python, or JavaScript
  • Significant experience with config management or automation frameworks like Chef, Puppet, or Ansible
  • 4 years maintaining production infrastructure on a Linux environment
  • Intermediate Ubuntu system administration skills
  • Strong DevOps experience and client service skills
  • Ability to participate in on-call/pager rotation as necessary

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5-8 years maintaining high volume, distributed production infrastructure and microservices/Docker architectures
  • Superior DevOps mentality and client service skills
  • Strong Ubuntu system administration skills
  • Deep experience debugging, profiling, upgrading Ruby on Rails, NodeJS, or Python applications and application servers
  • Previous database administration experience
  • Demonstrated public accomplishments via open source, speaking, blogging, etc.

Who we are

With LaterPay, we want to change the way people buy and sell digital content on the Internet. Why? Because we believe paying for digital content should be fast, convenient, and fair. And because we think you should be able to buy the exact piece of content you want.

We want to create a great software product which influences and changes the way people use paid content of any kind on the Internet. The usage of paid content should be as easy and convenient as going out to dinner: you are served first and pay later. We want to build a user-centric product that makes users feel smart. It should represent the simplest, most secure way to buy digital goods. We want to change the way people regard paid content, turning it into a great experience. We want to enable businesses to offer "paid content as a service", convincing users of their content's value instead of forcing them to pay before actually getting the content.

We want to create an environment of excellence in which performance meets comfort and fun. We have an office, located in the center of Munich next to the Isar River, but around half of the company works remotely, meeting up together every few months.

About You

After joining the ops team at LaterPay, you will often work independently to help take our current automated infrastructure to the cloud. Your responsibilities would involve a very proactive approach to successfully planning, building and maintaining our platform into the future.

Here at LaterPay we believe that work is about doing something you enjoy and that it should be self motivating. This is a hands-on position where you will lead by example, oversee project and architecture decisions and help others build the next big thing.

You will implement best practises in security, manage operations and implement seamless upgrades with the team.

What we have

We're primarily built around Python/Django, deployed as RPMs by Jenkins to a handful of CentOS boxen in a local datacentre, configured with Puppet.

We've got PostgreSQL, we've got Redis, we've got a Cassandra cluster.

Right now, we're looking at moving that to AWS.

We'll want you to help with that.

Slack, JIRA, and GitHub are our working tools.

Icinga, Graphite and ELK help us know what's going on.

Things we're particularly looking for

  • Demonstrated previous responsibility for maintaining high-availability systems
  • Experience using Puppet, especially around testing and deployment
  • Experience with AWS - particularly Elastic Beanstalk, DynamoDB and VPCs and related services
  • Familiarity with the "Twelve-Factor App" principles (http://12factor.net/)
  • A penchant for multitasking when needed
  • Capacity and forecast planning
  • Experience in ensuring PCI-DSS compliance

We need crafty engineers to help build the Compose Platform. The platform team is responsible for building and enhancing our database operations platform, which means fun systems problems — container orchestration, distributed computing, high volume data sync. If you're interested in creating powerful data wrangling tools for thousands of developer teams worldwide, we want to talk to you. You'll do best here if you can work without much oversight, reason about complex systems, and break big problems down into manageable pieces. Our infrastructure is primarily Ruby and Golang, though we don't think you necessarily need experience with either language and are happy to let you learn as you go (assuming you're good at all the important stuff).

What we hope you're good at

  • Distributed systems
  • Self-managing. We don't have managers ... product management is up to the engineers
  • Can coordinate with other groups (marketing, support, and writers) along the way
  • Like databases of all flavors (if you look down on the word "NoSQL", that's good)

    Tooting of horns

We do things different and have fun in the process. We work in the open, with honesty, and free from debbie downers (except memes). Ideas are always welcomed, best of all, you can explore an idea without the need to "run it by the boss". We work remotely, always have, always will. For us, it's about working with others who are just as passionate as we are regardless of location or timezone.

We've got BIG plans (not Big Data) for the next generation of applications and developers. It's going to be challenging, sometimes-stressful, and incredibly rewarding.

    Company Benefits

We offer the standard suite of benefits, along with some unique perks. You can choose to work out of one of our two offices (do you like amazing weather? or amazing BBQ?), or work from home.

  • Competitive salary
  • Amazing benefits
  • Working with the smartest team in town (especially if you work remote!)
  • Easy access to public transit (or, work at home)
  • Dog-friendly (crocodile friendly if you work from home)
  • Office Locations

Our two main offices are located in San Mateo, California and Birmingham, Alabama, with a remote employees in South Africa, Canada and many places in between.

DESCRIPTION

Who we are:

We’re in the business of delivering awesome meals to your home.
We build and run a superb website, suite of mobile apps, and a fleet of drivers, all so you can order from real restaurants, to your doorstep.

We work with hundreds of the UK's best loved restaurants (Carluccio's, GBK, Nando's, Rossopomodoro, many top quality independents) to deliver their meals to homes and offices everywhere. Our customers are as passionate about great food as we are — and we satisfy them in just 32 minutes on average!

What we do:

As a logistics company, our software is used to transport physical goods and solve real-world problems. We handle rapid decisions about dispatching drivers in real-time and remove slow human think-time and inefficient information discovery from every interchange point in the order processing workflow so food deliveries can be fulfilled as quickly as possibly. Our current total order fulfillment time from the time that the customer submits an order until they receive their meal is, on average, 32 minutes, although we know we can do better.

You:

Our product team needs to grow, quickly: our breackneck-paced growth comes with many challenges, from our dispatch backend to excellence in front-end UX, and from software architecture to highly usable mobile applications.

We're uncompromising though: we're like smart, ambitious software engineers, designers, and product managers to join us, and help us build and scale this lovable (and loved!) product.

We are looking for like-minded developers who truly love the craft of software engineering. We value a job well done rather than unreasonably long hours. We encourage engineer to be curious, put time into studying software development (learn new languages, study design patterns or algorithms, experiment with new open source frameworks, etc) and to continue to develop new skills.

As a Software Engineer (backend) on our team, you will:

  • Work with great product people, like Greg (our CTO), Simon (Head of design), Marty (full-stack engineer), or Julien (backend engineer).
  • Be exposed to the whole business, in an environment where your ideas counts.
  • Work with teams from the entire company to design and deliver features for a rapidly growing suite of products
  • Design, build, ship and maintain software features across one or more parts of our stack — from operations, backend, and APIs to highly interactive front-ends and mission-critical mobile applications.
  • Contribute to a learning organisation: you'll help defining how we work together, and how we build a great product.
  • Report to the CTO.

    REQUIREMENTS

  • Pride in readable, well-designed, well-tested software.
  • Professional experience with Ruby and Ruby on Rails (2+ years)
  • We'll still consider you if you have done some Ruby on the side, and have worked with similar environment (Python/Django, Perl/Catalyst, PHP/Laravel, Groovy/Grails).
  • Experience with relational databases (PostGreSQL, MySQL) and key-value stores (Memcache, Redis)
  • A relentless desire to satisfy every customer's palate.
  • A sense of humour.
  • A stash of Kangaroo GIFs (Cat GIFs tolerated).

    Nice-to-haves:

  • Experience with PostGIS, or any geography-heavy applications.
  • Experience with "NoSQL" data backends (Redis, MongoDB, ElasticSearch).
  • Experience with Go.
  • Experience with logistics.

    BENEFITS

  • Work where you want.
  • As long as you have a great internet connection, and you're happy to come see us regularly of course!
  • Top-notch kit. Bring your own or we'll get you a shiny new Macbook and stuff.
  • Eat great food.
    • If you're remote, that's a good reason to come to the office regularly!
    • If not, watch that waistline ^_^
  • Tech and food events with the team.
  • Gym membership (if in London). Probably important in a food company.
  • Swag! You'd better like kangaroos though.

Help us plan, build and maintain the infrastructure behind our services layer.

We're already handling hundreds of millions of requests, and are expect significant growth in the coming months as we roll out our product set and continue to evolve and build out platforms for our key clients.

Everyone in our engineering team helps solve interesting problems with scaling, machine learning, data visualisation, our API architecture and core development framework. To date this has included our core infrastructure in AWS, the Google Cloud and other platforms. We're not at a size where we need to split out responsibilties in this area.

This is a ground floor opportunity for the right engineer to take the reins of a young, exciting and growing infrastructure, to plan for and support our rapid growth, and to build an opperations team that meets the needs of the wider business.

Why DADI+?

Early on we realised that, to attract the best people, we had to be flexible. We had to look outside the M25 and trust our people to work however suits them.

We think it makes DADI+ a pretty special place to work.

Our principles at work:

  • Work asynchronously. Individual team members more or less works at their own pace, with collaboration and agreement being handled by asynchronous mechanisms
  • No 9 to 5. Get the job done on time (and don't upset the client) and you can work the hours you want
  • Work at your own pace. We handle things like collaboration and sign off through the best tools for the job, all in support of asynchronous working
  • Minimal meetings. Unless we really need to powwow in person, we keep in touch using cloud-based tools like Slack (much more efficient, believe us)
  • Work where you want. Yes, be diligent, stick to deadlines and do great work. But where and how you do it is up to you

Find out more about how we work.

    What we're looking for:

We are looking for a driven and focused individual with a proven record of delivering large-scale infrastructure and supporting multiple products for a global audience.

In terms of skill set, you will have:

  • Significant experience with AWS, including EC2, Route 53, S3, Cloudfront and ElastiCache
  • Deep understand and proven experience working with Ubuntu
  • Experience with Redis, Node JS and MongoDB
  • Experience wotrking with APIs and with JSON
  • A proven understanding of the fundamentals of digital technology
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience managing and reporting against budgets
