From major enterprises like ING to multi-billion dollar software companies like Zillow, TaskRouter powers the core logic of their customer experience. We're looking for a Sr. Software Engineer/Lead to join our team and help us architect and scale the system in excess of that growth rate while maintaining a highly available mission critical service.

About the job:

You will be a key member of the TaskRouter team working with the senior leads on the team to evolve and scale existing services with points of presence globally. In addition you will also work on the creation of new services that would provide powerful additional capabilities to developers on top of existing API’s and will require experience working with distributed SQL, NoSQL databases and caches.

Responsibilities:

  • Write high quality, maintainable code with extensive test coverage.
  • Own, operate, and maintain your team’s services in a distributed production environment. Employ Agile methodologies to continuously deliver value to customers.
  • Tackle some of the most challenging problems you can face developing highly available services in a distributed cloud environment that needs to scale.
  • Excel as an engineer and be a productive member of the team where leadership is a behavioral trait, not a title.

    Requirements:

The TaskRouter team believes in versatility and complementing proficiencies being key to forming the best team. We are looking for senior-level talent with a variety of skills and specializations. You should have at least 3 to 4 of the proficiencies below to be considered for the role:

You can design and develop horizontally scalable, resilient and high performance REST services. You’re familiar with distributed datagrids like Hazelcast.
    3. Databases. You’re comfortable with SQL databases and replication schemes to enable high availability with failover. You have expert level experience with traditional RDBMS databases.
    4. Cloud. You are proficient in cloud technologies and are hands-on in at least one cloud platform: AWS, Azure or GCC. You are able to both design and develop cloud-based systems and operate them in an automated fashion.
    5. Testing. You are passionate about quality and can engineer it at all stages of software development. You are able to design and develop a quality pipeline requiring as little human intervention as possible.
    6. Security. You are able to design secure distributed systems and assure operational processes around security. You understand fitness for purpose of security techniques.
    7. Agile. You are an expert in practical aspects of running Scrum (or other agile methodologies) within a team and in a distributed cross-team environment. You know how to ship rapidly and frequently.

      Bonus points:

  • Sound understanding of CI/CD build and deployment toolchains.
  • Experience working with Dropwizard.
  • Experience working with Node/React framework.
  • Experience with NoSQL databases.
  • Experience working in a DevOps environment.

Ideal Candidate
We're interested in someone comfortable with a generalist and devops role. You should be knowledgeable of standard system administration tasks and have a firm understanding of the role of load balancers and cluster architecture. It's 100x harder to write code if you don't know how the underlying operating system works.
We're looking for someone with a legitimate passion for technology, big data, and analyzing vast amounts of content.
We are also looking for people outside of the U.S. and Canada to maximize our time zone distribution. Ideally there should be least a 4 hour overlap with the Pacific Standard Time Zone (PST / UTC-8). We're based out of San Francisco but are migrating to the international level. If you don't have a natural time overlap with UTC-8 you should be willing to work evenings to be able to communicate easily with the rest of the team.
Culturally, we’re a remote company and want to embrace it as a way to reward our employees. We are fine with you working in remote locations as long as you’re generally available for communication and are productive.
We want someone to come in full time in a contractor role. We will need about 40 hours from you per week.
Job Responsibilities:
Understanding our crawler infrastructure and ensuring top quality metadata for our customers. There's a significant batch job component to analyze the output from the crawl to ensure top quality data.
Making sure our infrastructure is fast, reliable, fault tolerant, etc. At times this may involve diving into the source of tools like ActiveMQ, Cassandra and understand how the internals work. We contribute a LOT to Open Source development if our changes need to be given back to the community.
Building out new products and technology that will directly interface with customers. This includes cool features like full text search, analytics, etc. It's extremely rewarding to build something from ground up and push it to customers directly.
Architecture:
Our infrastructure consists of Java on Linux (Debian/Ubuntu) with the stack running on ActiveMQ, Cassandra, Zookeeper, and Jetty. We use Ansible to manage our boxes. We have a full-text search engine based on Elasticsearch, and store our firehose API data within Cassandra.
We have a totally new stack and infrastructure at this point. We recently did a full-stack rewrite and moved all the old code to our new infrastructure. This means we have very little legacy cruft to deal with.
Here's all the cool stuff you get to play with:
Large Linux / Ubuntu cluster running with the OS versioned using both Ansible and our own debian packages for software distribution.
Massive amount of data indexed from the web and social media. We index from 5-20TB of data per month and want to expand to 100TB of data per month.
Large Cassandra install on SSD.
SOLR / Elasticsearch migration / install. We’re experimenting with bringing this up now so it would be valuable to get your feedback.
Technical Skills:
Here's where you shine! we're looking for someone with a number of the following requirements:
Linux. Linux. Linux. Did I say Linux? We like Linux.
Experience in modern Java development and associated tools.
Maven, IntelliJ IDEA, Guice (dependency injection)
A passion for testing, continuous integration, and continuous delivery.
Cassandra. Stores content indexed by our crawler.
ActiveMQ. Powers our queue server for scheduling crawl work.
A general understanding and passion for distributed systems.
Ansible or equivalent experience with configuration management.
Standard web API use and design. (HTTP, JSON, XML, HTML, etc).
Cultural Fit:
We’re a lean startup and very driven by our interaction with customers, as well as their happiness and satisfaction. Our philosophy is that you shouldn’t be afraid to throw away a week's worth of work if our customers aren’t interested in moving in that direction.
We hold the position that our customers are 1000x smarter than we are and we try to listen to them intently, and consistently.
Proficiency in English is a requirement. Since you will have colleagues in various countries with various primary language skills we all need to use English as our common company language. You must also be able to work with email, draft proposals, etc. Internally we work as a large distributed Open Source project and use tools like traditional email, Slack, Google Hangouts, and Skype.
Familiarity working with a remote team and ability (and desire) to work for a virtual company.
Should have a home workstation, fast Internet access, etc.
Must be able to manage your own time and your own projects.
Self-motivated employees will fit in well with the rest of the team.
It goes without saying but being friendly and a team player is very important.

Repable powers data-informed decision making for streamers and eSports athletes. Our passion is gaming, and we're constantly flipping back and forth between hard work and quick bursts of Overwatch, Hearthstone, League & other games. We usually have Azubu, Twitch or YouTube live streaming in the background. Our expertise is in analytics & data, and we're pooling on that knowledge to change the way the gaming industry operates.

Ideally, you have experience working with startups and/or with analytics companies. You'll be working with a rounded team of individuals, including a product manager, a front-end developer and a dedicated UI/UX designer. Given that the team is small, you'll be able to dabble into many parts of the development process, while keeping a strong focus on our back-end services.

We’re a small team based out of Toronto, ON but are looking for like-minded individuals to grow with us within North America. You don't need to live in Canada to be eligible for this position, but we'd prefer it if you were.

  • You’ll help the company stay real, by showing us solutions that will give us 80% of what we need for 20% of the cost.

    Requirements:

  • Mastery of web scraping and consuming information from third party APIs are a must. You'll have shown a track record of doing this in the past.
  • A thorough understanding of Amazon Web Services and competing suites of products.
  • Extensive experience in your front-end language of choice. No, really. We’re agnostic at this point, but we do have opinions.
  • You’ve successfully led or substantially participated in the development and deployment of a client-facing SaaS app.
  • You’re comfortable with product development and web operations. You can easily interact with product managers, designers, engineers, web operators and BI / analytics teams.
  • You can tell us during our initial meetings all about SaaS apps and what particular challenges they bring, and how you’ve overcome some of them.
  • You’ll temper dreams and be able to propose solutions that will give the company 80% of what it needs for 20% of the cost.

    Qualifications:

Experience: 1 to 5 years experience in a similar role.

    Skills:

System Architecture, Web Operations, Amazon Web Services (AWS), API consumption, Web Scraping, Backend Development

    Perks:

  • Work with people who have done this before
  • A competitive startup salary
  • Stock options - a part of this company could be yours
  • Grow the early stage of a company

Hi there!

We're looking for someone to join the engineering team at Zapier. Interested in creating a simple product that allows anyone to do complex, incredible things with the world's APIs? Then read on…

About You

You love building and learning new things.

Most of what you'll do day-to-day will involve working with our frontend, design and UX teams to create amazing and intuitive experiences that make it effortless to connect different apps together. We use some pretty cool tech - we're transitioning our Backbone.js frontend to a modern React + Redux architecture and having a lot of fun with it. We love ES6 and are embracing a functional approach to problem solving.

You've worked with teams before on large single-page apps - the frontend framework or language doesn't matter much to us - instead, you understand how to manage complexity and balance technical limitations with product requirements. Simple and sustainable code, performance and correctness are all top of mind for you.

You love working with customers to help understand their needs and translate a product spec into functional, production ready code.

You love doing things efficiently. At Zapier, the work you do will have a disproportionate impact on the business. We believe in systems and processes that let us scale our impact to be larger than ourselves.

You love learning. Engineering is an ever-evolving world. You enjoy playing with new tech and exploring areas that you might not have experience with yet.

You love to set your own course. At Zapier, we have one team meeting each week and one-on-one meetings every month and then we go make things happen.

Things You Might Do

Zapier is a startup, so you'll likely get experience on many different projects across the organization. Here are some things you'll get a taste of:

  • Build and maintain new user facing features or overhaul existing ones.
  • Research, guide and execute broad frontend architecture changes.
  • Work with complex and varied data structures (APIs be crazy!).
  • Ship to hundreds of thousands of users every day.
  • Work and ship product independently.
  • Share what you know and learn either one-on-one or with lightning talks to the group.
  • Give back to the community via open source and blog posts.
  • Help customers via support to ensure they have the best experience possible.

    About Zapier

For the past four years, Zapier has been helping people across the world automate the boring and tedious parts of their job. We do that by helping everyone connect the web applications they already use and love.

We believe that there are jobs a computer is best at doing and that there are jobs a human is best at doing. We want to empower businesses to create processes and systems that let computers do what they are best at doing and let humans do what they are best at doing.

We believe that with the right tools, you can have big impact with less hassle.

We believe in small teams. Small teams are fast and nimble. Small teams mean less bureaucracy and less management and more getting things done.

We believe that credentials don't say everything. Our CTO has a finance degree. Our CEO has an engineering degree. Our CPO has a mechanical engineering degree. What you love doing is way more important than the credentials you have.

This will not be an easy job.

The tasks will be difficult.

We want someone to build the best possible API for our computer vision backend. We can also give you deep vision tasks in your free time if you're in to that.

You'll talk directly to customers about what they want, and then build it. We expect high quality, you'll have full responsibility for what gets built.

We'll give a high salary to whoever's good enough. Benefits are currently up in the air as we're still setting up the company, but you can give us input on what you want. And of course, it's completely remote :) You can work whenever you want, but need to be available for regular standups and show consistent progress.

---

Must:
Be able to build an API
Be able to write tests
Know git
Be able to endure the incredible pain of learning quickly

Nice to have:
Experience with Node
Experience with Kubernetes or cloud deployments
React and React Native
UX skillz

If you want to really impress, send us a github project of a Koa API to a Postgres database that's deployed to Google Cloud with Kubernetes. Bonus points if it has tests.

If you've never done any of that, and you learn how to do it (or fake it) in two weeks or whatever, even better.

---

Shoot us a github with your recent projects, and maybe one-sheet at max of your resume/past accomplishments.

The initial interview will be pretty short. Then we'll give you a small real-world task to complete (~2 hours), and we'll talk about that. If that's good, we'll start you on a difficult 3 month trial. If you pass that, you can be on the team.

Codeable

Full Time - Backend/API Engineer - Ruby (on And Off Rails)

Codeable

ruby

api

engineer

backend

ruby

api

engineer

backend

1yr

Apply

How is this job different?

Well, it's not that different, but people working at Codeable are.
We're a bunch of proud nerds - be it tech, design or business wise - we have good sense of humor and also manage to get work done.

What do you even do?

We're a startup (we'll be 3 years old on 7th of January 2016) but we're profitable. We have been called a leading outsourcing platform in the WordPress market.

So what we are is a premium outsourcing platform for all your WordPress needs. Think UpWork, Elance or oDesk but as a Mercedes-Benz (great quality and very reliable). We actually interview people (freelancers) who want to work for us because we actually care about quality.

Codeable is all about quality and we're well known for our awesome customer support. Just in case you don't believe us, here is a quote from one of our customers: "Great job by another very talented Codeable tech! I'll definitely be back.".

We currently have around 8 permanently involved people (programmers, marketing, ...) and a few working for us part time (UX, Design). That said, we are currently lacking power in the backend "department".

What am I going to do?

The thing you do best. We believe that we can get the best out of our people if we focus on the things they do best.

If chosen, you will have a month (or two) long testing period where we see how you fit in the team and how you perform at your work.

Proactive approach is most wanted since we're not a big company and we don't have a development/programming department. Meaning if you see something that should be fixed or made better and you can do it, then you do it.

If you know you can improve something, just do it.

Now to the real business...

Our backend code needs a bit of a face-lift and some speed optimizations and at the same time we decided to rethink a bit how we are building our application.

We are very keen on approaches that would allow us to extract some (if not most) of the code from Rails so we could manage it better and at the same time speed up our tests.

We're not aiming for the "big rewrite". What we have in mind is a gradual approach to improving our code.

So if terms like DDD, Hexagonal, Rails engines, Test driven and OO don't scare you or even better, they get you excited, you might be the chosen one!

Follow the white rabbit (or just scroll down, whatever is easier).

What do I need?

  • Solid knowledge or Ruby
  • Solid knowledge or Rails
  • Solid knowledge of CI and continuous deployment
  • Solid understanding of REST
  • Solid experience in designing APIs
  • Solid knowledge of GIT (we use feature branches)
  • Solid knowledge of refactoring code
  • Curious gene (you have to love testing new stuff and doubting and improving old)
  • Love & hate relationship with Rails
  • Openness to other platforms and approaches/methodologies. Rails is not a religion for us.

Your responsibilities a bit more detailed

  • Developing new and maintaining old features
  • Designing and shaping the new version of API (v1 is getting old and with new frontend app coming we need v2)
  • Designing, shaping and integrating services in good OO manner
  • Collaborating with frontend developers to find the best solution for improvements or new features
  • Some manual (DB, console, ...) number crunching work to satisfy our spreadsheet gods
  • Helping us all develop a good programming/development culture (freedom of choice and sense of responsibilities/ownership )
  • Participation on dailies (every working day at 10AM (GMT+1)

What am I going to get?

  • An option to work remotely (duh!).
  • Freedom of choice => right tool for the job (but own it - if it breaks it's your responsibility).
  • Flexible working hours => only 10am daily is mandatory - can be skipped on occasions if requested.
  • Competitive salary => If you are that good, then you deserve it!
  • Team building/meetings => Since we're all working remotely we have the need for human touch once in a while, this is when we meet together, eat some nice food, do some cool activities (last time we went sky diving!), talk and work together.
  • Working environment where people care about what they do
  • Attractive bonus/reward program (we are currently working on it)

To apply: Send a resume to: matjaz@codeable.io

Come work at WeaveUp - a company that is bringing the power of technology to the world of fabric and design! We’re looking for self-motivated people who take a great deal of pride of ownership in their work, and are driven to build something amazing. Our roots are from one of the best fabric companies in the world, and our destiny is to be an amazing technology company. We’re looking for good developers and great people, not brogrammers, rock stars or ninjas (Note: If you are not a mercenary in feudal Japan, you are not a ninja). We are based in the Raleigh/Durham area of North Carolina, but open to working with great people wherever we can find them.

WeaveUp is seeking an experienced backend-focused Rails developer to build and improve our REST API, and to be a foundational member of our company. Our technology stack is an Angular frontend talking to a Rails API backend, and you’ll be focusing on making the API as flexible and robust as it can be!

What You’ll Be Doing

You’ll be helping us bring our development in-house - our product has been around two years, and was developed by a North Carolina consulting operation. They have given us a great start, now it’s time for us to take it and run with it. We’ll be continuing to grow our API to support new uses of WeaveUp, and to add new ways for our customers to express themselves in the physical world.

Things That Are Pretty Important To Us

  • Experience with Ruby and Rails, since that’s what our backend is (#logic).
  • An ability to build and improve a REST/JSON API.
  • Big ideas and a tiny ego - come in with your best ideas, but don’t take it personally if another idea is better.
  • A customer-first focus, and a willingness to step and hustle to make us a success. There is no “that’s not my job” at WeaveUp.
  • Integration with third-party APIs, even things like (GASP!) SOAP.
  • A high degree of pragmatism about the difference between “good” and “perfect,” with a bias toward shipping.
  • Testing experience, hopefully with RSpec.

Things That Would Be Nice To Have

  • Experience or interest in AngularJS, for that full-stack flavor.
  • Ability to debug front-end clients to your API, specifically Angular/Javascript and iOS.
  • Strong Giphy-fu to post amusing GIFs into the engineering Slack channel.
  • Enough DevOps to understand how a Rails app runs and what might break.
  • Knowledge about image processing, color matching and RMagick.
  • Strength in Postgres-flavored SQL and query tuning.

    Why WeaveUp?

  • Work on a product that has demonstrated value for customers, and help us take it to the next level!
  • A culture that values productivity, accountability and communication over politics, capital-P Process and micromanagement.
  • Seriously, we’ll treat you like an actual adult.
  • A collaborative environment where you’re encouraged to think and contribute outside of your prescribed role.
  • Management that is committed to supporting you as a person and a professional, and to building a diverse and respectful team that makes all of us stronger.
  • Take-it-when-you-need-it vacation policy and work-location flexibility.
  • Competitive salary and benefits, and the opportunity to get in early on an exciting product.

WeaveUp, Inc. is a vibrant design marketplace that encourages users to customize designs with our groundbreaking rendering technologies, and then order fabric and home décor products to create the perfect look for their apartment, home or office. Founded by proven leaders in the textile industry, WeaveUp features an extensive library of crowd-sourced designs from artists, designers and users. WeaveUp’s products are digitally printed and proudly made-to-order in the U.S.A.

Hello there!

Zapier is looking for an engineer to join the platform team at Zapier and help grow and maintain our fleet of API integrations. If you think APIs will define the future of the web, read on…

About You

You love APIs, even when they don't always love you back. You've written APIs before and you consume them with ease. You are persistent at sniffing out issues - especially useful when APIs get weird and break. Your friends might call you Sherlock Holmes or Nancy Drew when it comes to APIs.

You know the HTTP spec inside and out and have opinions on API design, but are pragmatic, sympathetic and understand that APIs are only useful when they're shipped. Done is better than perfect.

In addition to digging into API specs and solving problems using code, you also enjoy working with people. Communicating with partners and developers over email or chat is something that you'd enjoy doing. You are able to empathize with developers of all levels and backgrounds, in order to help them get things done.

You love to set your own course. At Zapier, we have one team meeting each week and one-on-one meetings every month and then we go make things happen.

About SupportBee

SupportBee helps companies manage their customer support emails. We provide them with the tools to effectively collaborate on their emails and deliver great customer support. As you can imagine, every company has a unique workflow when it comes to support. To keep SupportBee simple to get started with, we relentlessly apply the 80/20 rule. We focus on features that are going to be useful to 80% of the customers. At the same time, we embrace the challenge of giving companies a way to customize their workflow and truly make SupportBee work for them.

About our API & App Platform

That's why we launched with a fully featured API. In fact, our own JS interface uses the public API. We also support webhooks to know of events (like new tickets) in realtime. Checkout our docs at https://developers.supportbee.com/api

We love our API but there is no denying the fact that APIs are hard to consume. You need to worry about hosting, authentication, latency, and storage. To tackle this, a few months after our public launch, we rolled out a hosted app platform. It let’s you create and publish apps that any SupportBee customer can use using Ruby & Javascript. Oh and it's open source! - https://github.com/SupportBee/SupportBee-Apps

There are over 30 different apps published on the platform. It takes about an hour to write an integration with a CRM system like highrise. Checkout the code for Highrise at https://github.com/SupportBee/SupportBee-Apps/blob/master/apps/highrise_crm/highrise_crm.rb

About the Job

What we have is a good start but we want you to take it to the next level. This involves

  • Working on new apps and improving the existing ones. You'll be coding in Ruby & Javascript
  • Adding more capabilities to the app platform (ex: reports, cron)
  • Improving the developer console
  • Helping customers with API questions and improving the docs
  • Evangelizing the API/Platform by writing blogs and participating in events
  • Better API & Platform monitoring

It’s a challenging and exciting role. Being our first full-time hire to work on Apps and API, you will be walking an unpaved road. To excel in this role, you should enjoy defining and then solving problems. You will be talking to customers to understand their workflows and find ways to improve their lives with apps and platform features. You will be working with dozens of other software and their APIs so you must love exploration!

    Our Work Culture

We a small (and effective) 4 people team working from India, Mexico and United States. We have good processes and tools setup to ship high quality software remotely. We work 40 hours a week and encourage everyone to live a healthy and balanced life. Happy people do great work and we want you to be happy and productive. SupportBee is bootstrapped, profitable and hungry for growth! Oh and we just turned 3 - https://blog.supportbee.com/2015/09/28/three-years/ :)

Your main focus will be on developing new features, building enhancements and supporting/maintaining our PHP5.6 (and getting ready for 7!) application within GitHub.

You'll work with HTML5/CSS3, appreciate a clean/simple UI and be all "OMG!!!1 RESTful JSON API, jQuery, handlebarise all the things!" and know what that means!

We work with some chunky MySQL databases, so profiling and optimising experience is essential.

You'll have a good understanding, and be able to take advantage of, the broader technologies we use and rely upon such as Vagrant/Puppet, Composer, Redis, LAMP/SSL, AWS S3, DNS, SSH /SFTP, PHPUnit and Behat.

We're big believers in "Done is better than Perfect", so when you come across code that isn't quite MVC and hasn't seen a unit test, you're still able to quickly carry on with the task at hand while concocting a cunning plan for improvement.

You'll join in with your fair share of evening/weekend on-call support for which you're paid extra on top of salary. This is only used for rare emergencies (2–3 times/year) but provides vital reassurance for our customers.

Work from home, or wherever you like really

We love working remotely, so above all, you need to be comfortable in that environment or be willing to try something new. This means you get to choose where you work, providing you're suitably drenched in wi-fi and in reach of Trello/Slack. We're all about the output, and trust you to do a great job wherever you are.

That said, a lot of the team live in Leicester so usually meet up in person every week or two with lunch on us, just because it's nice to do so. And we work closely with our customers, so it's likely you'll need to say hello to them in person a couple of times a year too.

With great power, comes great responsibility

Attention to detail, clear written skills and the ability to work in a team are essential.

Since we're not usually all in the same room, you absolutely must be able to communicate well, and share progress often. That doesn't mean we interrupt/distract each other though, as we're firm believers in being approachable through asynchronous working.

We'll expect you to be constantly learning and developing your skills, and to be fully involved in sprint planning, retros and daily scrums along with all the developers and our project manager.

The Zotero team is looking for a full-time, contract developer to work on the Zotero website, joining a major redesign of zotero.org and helping to shape the Zotero ecosystem going forward. You’ll work with both front- and back-end technologies, including the latest standards and tools for building rich client-side web applications, which you’ll help choose. (Think we should use ES6 via Babel or build something with React? Let’s do it.) While you’ll be primarily responsible for the Zotero website, you might also pitch in with other parts of the project, helping to extend the Zotero web API, optimize the AWS infrastructure, or build back-end services to power new features. As part of a small team, you’ll have responsibility over core components of the project and the freedom to experiment and find creative solutions to tough problems. Most importantly, you’ll participate in a vibrant global open-source community with amazing community developers and passionate users.

The core Zotero development team meets periodically in person (conference room in Virginia, falafel joint in Paris, cafe in New York City), but you’ll primarily be working remotely, communicating with Zotero developers and users via chat rooms, forums, mailing lists, and GitHub. We have a highly collaborative but asynchronous workflow, and you’ll be in control of your own schedule. Our hours are flexible and variable: we might be debating a new feature at 1 p.m. or deploying a major upgrade at 1 a.m.

Rocana's infrastructure engineering team designs, builds, and tests distributed data collection, storage, and processing systems. The systems we build handle billions of events per day, and underpin some of the most demanding applications. Engineers who are interested in high throughput, concurrent, data management systems will feel at home thinking about data durability and consistency, serialization, storage formats, failure scenarios, reducing operational complexity, and building systems that function in practice as well as theory.

Some of the technology we use:

  • Java, Go, C/C++
  • Hadoop, Solr, Kafka, Impala, Hive, Spark
  • AWS, Jenkins, Github, JIRA

All teams at Rocana care about developing customer empathy, people over technology, consensus over competition, team success over personal, allowing failure and supporting success, listening before talking, open decision making, and diversity and inclusiveness.

The initial thrust of this position is to ensure compatibility between Java APIs with different Distros. In addition, this infrastructure engineer will be contributing to our core product.

    You:

  • Have experience managing different versions of the same API for various distributions of Hadoop
  • Experience with class loaders, and building Java apps servers or building out the Spring framework is highly desirable.
  • Understand hardware and OS fundamentals. You know what cache lines and context switches are. You can describe how IO works in Linux, and what syscalls like madvise() do.
  • Can describe the Java memory model, synchronization and concurrency primitives, and GC behavior under normal and pathological conditions. Oh, and you can write code too.
  • Have a working knowledge of the internals of databases, file-systems, messaging systems, and other data infrastructure.
  • Have a working knowledge of common data management, data warehousing, ETL, and stream processing theory.
  • Have a working knowledge of network protocols and standards.
  • Can easily put your ideas in writing.
  • Aren’t afraid to learn/switch programming languages based on the task.
  • Aren’t afraid to say, “I don’t know, but let’s find out!”
  • Seek feedback from everyone, especially those with whom you disagree.
  • Seek to understand prior to debate, and know when to stop debating.
  • Don’t always have to be right.
  • Are a smart person who’s passionate about helping others.
  • Take pride in your teams' accomplishments.
  • Are willing to take risks and overcome failures.

    We:

  • Are a distributed company, and as such require self-driven, high output people.
  • Care about creating a company, culture, and product we all love.
  • Focus on how to help customers be successful, and on what we achieve as a team.
  • Know that if you are happy and engaged, you’ll be/do your best.
  • Want to help you achieve your ambitions, so we can achieve ours.
  • Want you to develop skills and grow professionally, but we do not tolerate politics.
  • Use titles to reflect responsibility, not status.
  • Distribute authority and decisions as much as possible.

Requisition Number 15-0087

Job Description

The successful candidate will join our developer's team supporting a large infrastructure that supplies precision agriculture API, web, and mobile app services. We focus on increasing how many API calls/second we can support, reducing the latency of each API call, and of course on availability. The predominance of this work will be in cloud infrastructure providers such as Amazon EC2 and others.

A strong candidate will have experience with building automated and scalable management systems that can rapidly deploy systems in response to changing demands. We want people who would rather work with configuration management and automated deployment tools than execute the same command time and time again. We are firm believers of using and customizing automated tools.

Members of the developer team enjoy flexibility. On-call responsibilities are shared with the rest of the developers team for full 24x7x52 coverage. The team self-schedules on-call coverage. We strongly believe in fixing the root of the problem to prevent it from happening again, rather than simply dealing with the symptom. The position can either be in any of the Iteris offices around the country or a work from home position. For remote workers some additional travel will be required for multi-day team meetings.

Qualifications Required

Once A Month Meals (OAMM) believes that family and health shouldn’t come at the cost of your work, time or hobbies. Sitting around the dinner table, eating with those you care about and enjoying a meal full of nutritional value is paramount to our mission. We began and continue to operate, creating patent-pending software, that empowers individuals to bring back family dinner time without sacrificing the little spare time they have available; giving you time for what matters most.

OAMM is the premier site for everything busy people need to make freezer cooking easy. Since 2012, OAMM has operated under a paid subscription model that now offers members access to our patent pending menu building software and custom built user management database. OAMM is committed to steady growth, self-funding, and evolving our product in an effort to better serve our customers.

OAMM’s technology stack consists of three apps written in Ruby on Rails, Ember.js, and WordPress. We have a proven business model and a growing membership that is heavily supported by APIs built on Rails that will continue to evolve.

    Technology Stack:

    • Ruby on Rails
    • Ember.js
    • Coffeescript
    • MySQL
    • Postgres
    • Solr
    • WordPress
    • Sass

      Our Ideal Candidate:

OAMM is looking to add to its technology team by hiring an Experienced Ruby Developer.

We’re looking for a friendly developer who can work well with our remote team, have fun on Slack, and write maintainable, scalable, test driven code for our two Rails apps. As part of the OAMM technology team, you’ll gain experience in freezer cooking, “cooking math,” ecommerce, and more. You’ll need to be comfortable with SQL databases like MySQL or Postgres, and either understand (or be able to come up to speed quickly on) Solr. Experience designing, building, and supporting HTTP APIs with authentication is important, because we leverage a number of third party APIs for crucial aspects of our systems. It is also important that this person understands how to design and code for scalability as we have a very large audience and some unique traffic patterns.

Your primary role will be Rails development, but we’d love for you to have some frontend stack chops as well. Coffeescript, Sass, and HTML should be familiar to you. And, if you’re willing to learn, we can provide opportunities for training.

You’ll report directly to our Technical Director, but don’t be surprised if you interact with all our lovely full-time staffers in a typical day. Sparkbox will continue to be our agency for design and development consulting, and you will work closely with OAMM’s Technical Director and the Sparkbox team.

Because we are a distributed team, we’d love for you to have experience working remotely. Distributed teams have their advantages and disadvantages, and we’d love for you to already know what those are. And being remote requires a certain level of communication—so we’re in need of someone who can communicate very well.

If this sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you!

Do you want to work in cyber security? How about being able to work anywhere on the Planet? On a beach in Hawaii, or taking your lunch break fly fishing a stream in Alaska.

We are one of the fastest growing cyber security companies in the World. You will be working for us remotely full-time, with full benefits including medical, dental, 401K and a generous stock options package.

We are a team of four full-time employees and a handful of contractors. We're fast moving, nimble, self managing and work in a relaxed atmosphere with a sense of humor. Rather than working for a mega-corp, you will be working in a company where your work has real impact in the fun high-growth stages of our evolution.

We use apps like Slack, Fogbugz and Dropbox for our workflow. Each team member is World-class at what they do. We have flexible working hours and we are a diverse team ranging in age and location from Maine to Redmond to Knoxville to Florida.

All permanent positions will involve a trial period of approximately 1 month with a minimum commitment of 10 hours per week. You will be paid for this time and it will be used to evaluate whether both parties want to pursue a permanent position.

Here are some of the core skills we look for in team members:

    • A willingness to grab whatever task is required of you and run with it. This may include work outside of your core tasks. We are a small team and everyone needs to pitch in.
    • A high level of productivity and self-management.
    • Must be comfortable working remotely and interfacing with other team members using Slack and other remote tools.
    • Excellent analytical ability and problem solving skills.
    • A strong work ethic.
    • Effective communication skills. This is critical for remote workers and we can't emphasize this enough. You will spend a significant amount of time interfacing with our customers and/or other team members through your keyboard and it's critically important that you can effectively convey your thoughts.

      REQUIREMENTS

    • PHP including object oriented PHP. You need to write clean, high performance and maintainable code.
    • Knowledge of subversion a requirement.
    • MySQL including the ability to write well performing SQL, ability to design schemas and an understanding of MySQL data types and performance.
    • Apache knowledge a requirement.

    JOB DESCRIPTION

Do you have 3-5 years experience as a full stack dev (Ruby or Python) working on tough problems in a fast-paced commercial environment?

Are you a natural leader? Does it seem like you always end up running things, whether you have the formal authority to or not?

Do you dream of having the authority to make critical decisions that affect the outcome of the project you are working on?

If you answered yes to all of these questions, please reach out to connect with us! We are a small team of technical experts looking for our very first project lead. As project lead, you will own a combination of “hands-on” coding and project management responsibilities in order to take the lead on a large software development project. You will work closely with a small team of senior engineers that will look to you in order to ensure that their technical efforts are aligned with the needs of the project.

    SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS

Ideally, you should have 3 years commercial full stack development and have worked on large-scale web applications, ideally within a startup environment. As a developer, you should be comfortable autonomously driving your own high quality / high velocity contributions using a range of technologies.

You should be motivated to work remotely as part of a 100% remote team.

Most importantly, you should have the leadership and communication skills necessary to take ownership of a large software development project. This includes taking part in everything from requirements tracking to coding to QA.

    Our current technical stacks include:

    • Rails / Python
    • MySQL / PostgreSQL / Redis
    • Agile collaboration tools: Github, Trello, Flowdock, Chef, Ansible, Vagrant, etc
    • Modern software techniques: RESTful APIs, SOA, PaaS, etc

At Analytics Fire we find, win, and keep the best of the best devs -- we work on fun problems, and are flexible about when and how you contribute. We are currently going through a very exciting and interesting evolution of our platform. We are moving from a traditional RoR architecture to a modern "single page application", exposing our application as a set of hypermedia API's consumed by an Ember front-end to provide a rich interactive experience.

We are now looking to add to our team to accelerate the creation and rollout of this change. To do this we are looking to hire 2 people to join our team. These 2 positions should be able to contribute across the entire development stack. However, we are looking for one of the new hires to have strong experience in building and rolling out SPAs. Ideally, with experience using Ember to do this.

    Skills & Requirements

    • 2 to 5 years experience developing web applications
    • Experience with programming languages Ruby and Javascript preferred but good programmers always welcomed
    • Strong understanding of front-end technologies: JavaScript, HTML5, SASS, Ember or any other MV* framework
    • Strong programming skills with focus on clean design, well refactored code and automated testing
    • Comfortable working as part of a remote team
    • Related to remote working a working knowledge of English is required

      Technologies we use

    • Ruby on Rails
    • Yaks, https://github.com/plexus/yaks, open source project created from the core hypermedia technology we use to build our * API

      • we track and upgrade to Ember regularly

    • GitHub for source code management and process support
    • Travis / TeamCity for continuous integration

      How we work

We run a lightweight process that focuses on feature based delivery on a weekly basis. Our co-ordination and communication is largely through daily 'catch-up meetings' and use of appropriate tools such as Trello for backlog management, Slack for communication and Git(GitHub) for source control and feature deployment through PR's and Milestones.

From a coding perspective we place a strong emphasis on clean, minimal, well refactored code backed up by strong suite of automated tests. We make use of peer review for all design and development work.

In general we strive for an approach that empowers and trusts individuals to 'do the right thing' and as a team we try and keep each other true to this.

      Remote working

Our development team works as a remote team with members in Berlin, Malmö and Barcelona. Our wider organisation has people based in United Kingdom and Dublin. Dublin is our headquarters and only office space - with core Support team and Sales and Marketing team.

Remote working has become part of our company DNA. We believe that it offers a lot of advantages to both Ticketsolve and employees. We expect that our new hires will likely be remote working. This means that you should be comfortable working as part of a remote team. If this is new to you, don't worry, it was for us at the beginning as well. We now have lots of experience helping people settle in - so keep an open mind and imagine a working day with no daily commute ;)

Pathgather is an enterprise learning platform that - unlike traditional learning systems forced on employees - is one you'll actually enjoy using. We’re solving a big problem felt by almost all large companies: how to continuously train and educate your workforce with modern/relevant content. More than 75% of all companies use a Learning Management System (LMS) for this, but their > 60% dissatisfaction rate shows these systems simply don’t work. We’re changing that.

One way we're doing that is through the flexibility in our platform. Modern enterprises use a great number of disparate systems to meet their training needs, including LMSs, CMSs, cloud storage services, and 3rd-party content vendors. Pathgather is a unifying interface for all these disconnected tools, which means we deal with APIs...lots and lots of APIs. We also offer our own APIs to customers (see docs.pathgather.com) so they can integrate internal systems into Pathgather and power our web/mobile clients via in-house APIs.

We're looking for an API-experienced, back-end engineer to join our small but growing team. You'll own the API we provide to companies like Qualcomm, Walmart, and Twitter, and you'll help standardize and expand our suite of 3rd party integrations. You'll have significant impact on every customer deployment, the opportunity to interface with the talented engineers consuming our APIs, and the ability to influence our development lifecycle.

    DESCRIPTION

    Who we are:

We’re in the business of delivering awesome meals to your home.
We build and run a superb website, suite of mobile apps, and a fleet of drivers, all so you can order from real restaurants, to your doorstep.

We work with hundreds of the UK's best loved restaurants (Carluccio's, GBK, Nando's, Rossopomodoro, many top quality independents) to deliver their meals to homes and offices everywhere. Our customers are as passionate about great food as we are — and we satisfy them in just 32 minutes on average!

    What we do:

As a logistics company, our software is used to transport physical goods and solve real-world problems. We handle rapid decisions about dispatching drivers in real-time and remove slow human think-time and inefficient information discovery from every interchange point in the order processing workflow so food deliveries can be fulfilled as quickly as possibly. Our current total order fulfillment time from the time that the customer submits an order until they receive their meal is, on average, 32 minutes, although we know we can do better.

    You:

Our product team needs to grow, quickly: our breackneck-paced growth comes with many challenges, from our dispatch backend to excellence in front-end UX, and from software architecture to highly usable mobile applications.

We're uncompromising though: we're like smart, ambitious software engineers, designers, and product managers to join us, and help us build and scale this lovable (and loved!) product.

We are looking for like-minded developers who truly love the craft of software engineering. We value a job well done rather than unreasonably long hours. We encourage engineer to be curious, put time into studying software development (learn new languages, study design patterns or algorithms, experiment with new open source frameworks, etc) and to continue to develop new skills.

As a Software Engineer (backend) on our team, you will:

    • Work with great product people, like Greg (our CTO), Simon (Head of design), Marty (full-stack engineer), or Julien (backend engineer).
    • Be exposed to the whole business, in an environment where your ideas counts.
    • Work with teams from the entire company to design and deliver features for a rapidly growing suite of products
    • Design, build, ship and maintain software features across one or more parts of our stack — from operations, backend, and APIs to highly interactive front-ends and mission-critical mobile applications.
    • Contribute to a learning organisation: you'll help defining how we work together, and how we build a great product.
    • Report to the CTO.

      REQUIREMENTS

    • Pride in readable, well-designed, well-tested software.
    • Professional experience with Ruby and Ruby on Rails (2+ years)
    • We'll still consider you if you have done some Ruby on the side, and have worked with similar environment (Python/Django, Perl/Catalyst, PHP/Laravel, Groovy/Grails).
    • Experience with relational databases (PostGreSQL, MySQL) and key-value stores (Memcache, Redis)
    • A relentless desire to satisfy every customer's palate.
    • A sense of humour.
    • A stash of Kangaroo GIFs (Cat GIFs tolerated).

We are looking for engineers that are looking to make a difference and define a new industry. Our product team is pioneering a new way for canna-businesses to run. Our goal is to provide the most efficient and profitable way to run a canna-business while simplifying legal compliance.

Since being founded by an experienced team in June of 2014, we have already taken 50% of the Washington retail space and are rapidly growing into new markets.

We are constantly solving tough and interesting problems -- like how to provide a single
experience for customers in different states, keeping them compliant with all the local laws,
and interacting with each state’s traceability systems.

Our engineering team has a strong focus on operating as efficiently as possible and automating
everything that could help us move faster. We rely heavily on continuous deployment and constantly ship small, incremental changes. We also have been built from the beginning as a remote-friendly team with over half of the team currently working remotely.

    Requirements

Delivering product at a large scale

Since we are running a product that is the backbone of a retail business, we do not believe downtime is acceptable and will constantly remain focused on how to minimize this possibility. We are looking for engineers who strive for this goal in a modern application and will have an obsessive passion for removing the risk while keep the team moving quickly and efficiently.

    Focus on agility

We are a small team and need to remain on our toes when it comes to what our customers need. We are looking for team members that thrive in a changing environment and are willing to do what it takes to ensure our customers are successful.

    Great communication skills

Since we are primarily a remote team, most of our communication is done through Slack, email, and video calls. This makes your ability to have discussions and communicate with others through text effectively is very important.

    Courageous

We encourage debate in our team. We want to be sure we are always working on the right things and discuss this often. The most important thing is our customers, not our egos, so we need team members that are not afraid to speak up if they believe we are working on the wrong things.

    Technology

We don’t require that you know any of the technologies we work with; the best people will be able to learn quickly.

Our stack runs entirely in AWS, and we utilize their services as much as we can but will also build what we need to deliver a great customer experience. We use Ruby on Rails for our API, Objective-C and Swift for our iOS apps, and Ember.JS for our web applications. We use MySQL for our database and Memcached for caching.

At Gitter we're growing a communication network for developers and people who create software. We are home to thousands of open source software communities and help private teams communicate better.

Our small team is rapidly growing and are looking for great people in any corner of the world to help us build a better product.

    About the role

You'll be at the core of Gitter, building messaging, search and social-graph APIs for internal and external use (wherever possible, we use the same APIs that our API-users do).

    Requirements

You'll have proven, real world experience with:

    Building and running node.js services
MongoDB, including profiling and optimisation techniques
Redis -- not just as a cache but as a transactional datastore -- preferably with Lua scripting experience too
Elasticsearch or similar text search tools

    You'll have a solid, first-class knowledge of:

    Posix command-line tools
Algorithmic complexity and how to reduce it
    Building modular, testable code
    Deploying maintainable and monitorable systems
HTTP, including security, caching semantics, conditional requests, TLS, websockets, load-balancing
Cloud-based infrastructure, AWS, Google Cloud, Rackspace, etc

Additionally, experience with any of the following technologies would be a bonus:

    Front-end Javascript development
    Micro-service architectures
    Message-queueing using RabbitMQ, NSQ, etc
    Zero-downtime application deployment techniques
    Devops technologies, particularly Ansible

    Open Source

Not only does Gitter host tens-of-thousands of open source communities, but we're passionate about using, and contributing back to, open source projects. We've open sourced our IRC bridge, our desktop clients, many libraries and have plans to open source a great deal more of our code-base. Wherever possible, we reject Not-Built-Here syndrome in favour of using -- and improving through contributions -- existing open-source projects.

GitHub is not your CV, but the ideal candidate will have a demonstrable experience with contributing to open source through commits, pull-requests, issues or comments.

    Interesting challenges

Our stack is based around node.js, express.js, MongoDB, Redis, Elasticsearch, Marionette.js, LESS, Faye running on Ubuntu Linux on AWS Cloud infrastructure, orchestrated with Ansible and it's evolving all the time with our product. There's also iOS and Android pieces built on a hybrid HTML/native model.

Although we're a small company, you'll be growing past the boundaries of current state of the art of technology as far as as you would be in almost any (non-research) startup out there. For example, we've worked with Amazon as we've been the first to discover and isolate some unique serious issues in Amazon Webservice's ELB.

You'll be working in an open environment, where everyone's ideas are equally welcome and all new features are brainstormed together by the whole team.

We're looking for people who are accomplished, but not arrogant; experienced but hungry to learn; perfectionists, but pragmatic; passionate, but personable; we're looking for balanced individuals.

    Great users

Your role will be as a software developer, developing software for software developers. It's the ultimate dog-fooding and you will empathise with our users needs, frustrations and desires. In fact, Gitter was built using Gitter from day one.

    Remote working

We have a great little office in London, but wherever you are most comfortable working, that's fine by us. If you do happen to come into the office, we get Graze snacks sent in every week and work just around the corner from one of London's best street-food markets, Whitecross Street Market, where we get our lunch together almost every day.

We will always be flexible on hours and if you have a family, we understand that they will always be your number one priority.

    Stock Plan

We have a generous employee stock plan - and have allocated 20% of our shares to the employee pool (most startups are closer to 10-15%).

We'd like you to join our development team and help us build delightful civic technologies for hundreds of cities across North America.

As a web developer, you'll help design and implement our web platform, including our ReCollect web widgets and admin backend. You'll use some of the latest technologies, you'll share your experiences and wisdom building usable tools, and you'll get your hands dirty as we maintain existing tools and build new ones.

You'll have great peers to work with - folks who will understand the challenges we face and will help you grow and get where we need to be. Our development team is geographically distributed, and has many, many years of telecommute experience and working on drama-free, highly productive teams.

This listing is for a full-time position, based out of Vancouver, BC or working remotely from anywhere in North America.

    What we are looking for:

The right person for this job will have several years experience in building and maintaining usable, modern web applications. You'll have hard won lessons and experience working with older browsers, and will be comfortable hacking out Javascript applications.

You'll be a polyglot - someone comfortable in several languages - who is comfortable hacking out some browser code, or updating our asset build systems. You won't be scared off by the need to explore a large code base to fix bugs and learn how things work.

Ideally, you'll have experience working on an entirely distributed team. You'll understand how to keep yourself productive, happy and healthy while working from your home-office or co-working space. When we get together a couple times a year for all-hands face-to-face, you'll value the time with your awesome peers!

You'll have a lot to share and teach, and also a desire to learn and grow. We are all about learning and getting smarter as we build ReCollect! By the end of your (hopefully long) career at ReCollect, you will be happy, healthy and have lots of new lessons and learnings to share.

You must be prepared for hard work with our small team, as we continue to explore new markets and customer segments. You will need to be comfortable with ambiguity and making decisions to keep our future options as open as possible. You should also be prepared to occasionally carry the weight for others and take on tasks outside of your typical responsibilities when needed.

    We will support you with:

A stable and drama-free development process and team. (Regular blame-free retrospectives, little-a agile, kanban)
A clear vision of where we want and need to get to. (Stable strategic priorities, no giant swings in the idea du jour)
A delightful coding environment and tools. (This is my dev-env. There are many like it but this one is mine.)
Documentation on how existing systems work. (Confluence, Google Docs, code commenting. Not perfect but always improving)
A modest but growing test automation system. (Unit & integration testing, lots of Selenium experience on the team)
Excellent communication & dev tools. (Slack, Github, Pivotal Tracker, ScreenHero, Join.me, Hangouts, GNU Screen, Sauce Labs, ...)
Peers with many years of development experience.

You will have experience with these or similar technologies:

    • Javascript / Coffeescript
    • jQuery / Bootstrap
    • RESTful HTTP APIs
    • Browsers - old and new
    • Dynamic languages (Ruby, Python, Perl, PHP, Bash)

      And will have:

    • Strong written communication skills
    • A sense of humor with our team and customers
    • Opportunity to do some of the best work of your life
    • An interest in the future of civic technology

Our customers are mostly local government organizations, and you'll get to interact with them and help provide the legendary customer service that we have become known for.

Most importantly, we want you to be bright and fun. We also want you to care about a greener planet, happy citizens, and more efficient governments.

If this sounds like a good fit for your skills, and you are up for a challenge in the civic technology space... please contact us and tell us why you are uniquely qualified to join our team.

    Summary

PHP runs a lot of what we do here at Help Scout. It drives most new features, integrations and all our back-end admin tools. We have ambitious plans for the future and are looking for customer-driven engineers to help us craft a wonderful product experience. You’ll be joining three other senior level engineers on our Platform team to create software used by over 4,000 (and growing!) companies around the world.

    Tools We Use

    • PHP - the test-driven, object-oriented kind
    • Backbone.js, Marionette and jQuery
    • Node.js
    • RabbitMQ
    • Java (APIs)
    • MySQL and MongoDB
    • Git + Github
    • AWS

      About the Role

    • The engineering team currently has about fourteen people, three of whom will be your teammates on the Platform team. On a typical day you may help a customer with an issue, add a feature to our back-end admin tool or start work on a third party integration.
    • The Help Scout front-end is built with Backbone.js and Marionette, so you’ll be writing JavaScript as well. Building something new usually involves pulling in data from a Java API endpoint, creating a PHP passthrough and implementing the front-end components in JavaScript.
    • Your team works in two-week sprints and communicates mostly via Slack. When you finish a project and send a pull request, your teammates review the code and test cases (often over a screen-sharing session) before pushing to production. You’ll work autonomously for the most part and we trust you to get work done when/where you can be productive.
    • The Platform team is the first line of engineering support when a question can’t be answered by our in-house support team. We’ll get you up-to-speed with engineering support so you can help us craft a customer experience that’s always getting better.

      About You

    • You are very experienced with modern PHP development practices and open source frameworks. You’ve worked on these sorts of projects at scale and feel confident solving complex problems.
    • You have created Backbone (or similar framework) apps before and can write JavaScript from scratch to implement a feature. Marionette experience is a bonus, but not required. We can help you pick it up.
    • Your code is not only reliable and performant for customers, but can be read, maintained and understood easily by other engineers on your team. You can also speak and write in terms that non-geeks understand. Clear communication is super important in a remote culture like ours.

Help us plan, build and maintain the infrastructure behind our services layer.

We're already handling hundreds of millions of requests, and are expect significant growth in the coming months as we roll out our product set and continue to evolve and build out platforms for our key clients.

Everyone in our engineering team helps solve interesting problems with scaling, machine learning, data visualisation, our API architecture and core development framework. To date this has included our core infrastructure in AWS, the Google Cloud and other platforms. We're not at a size where we need to split out responsibilties in this area.

This is a ground floor opportunity for the right engineer to take the reins of a young, exciting and growing infrastructure, to plan for and support our rapid growth, and to build an opperations team that meets the needs of the wider business.

    Why DADI+?

Early on we realised that, to attract the best people, we had to be flexible. We had to look outside the M25 and trust our people to work however suits them.

We think it makes DADI+ a pretty special place to work.

    Our principles at work:

    • Work asynchronously. Individual team members more or less works at their own pace, with collaboration and agreement being handled by asynchronous mechanisms
    • No 9 to 5. Get the job done on time (and don't upset the client) and you can work the hours you want
    • Work at your own pace. We handle things like collaboration and sign off through the best tools for the job, all in support of asynchronous working
    • Minimal meetings. Unless we really need to powwow in person, we keep in touch using cloud-based tools like Slack (much more efficient, believe us)
    • Work where you want. Yes, be diligent, stick to deadlines and do great work. But where and how you do it is up to you

Find out more about how we work.

      What we're looking for:

We are looking for a driven and focused individual with a proven record of delivering large-scale infrastructure and supporting multiple products for a global audience.

In terms of skill set, you will have:

    • Significant experience with AWS, including EC2, Route 53, S3, Cloudfront and ElastiCache
    • Deep understand and proven experience working with Ubuntu
    • Experience with Redis, Node JS and MongoDB
    • Experience wotrking with APIs and with JSON
    • A proven understanding of the fundamentals of digital technology
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Experience managing and reporting against budgets
    • Ability to multi-task, prioritise and motivate teams

We are looking for someone who loves cyber security, machine learning, and big data, and at the same time appreciates a polished product with beautiful UI and developer-friendly API:s.

You will be building models for verifying users based on their browsing behavior, mouse movements, keystroke dynamics, location changes and device properties – i.e. primarily unsupervised learning and anomaly detection. One of the major challenges is to follow users between desktop and mobile devices, as well as distinguishing between two individuals even though they're using the same device.

You will also be responsible for architecting our streaming machine learning platform using open-source tools such as Spark, Kafka, Hadoop, Cassandra, etc.

The rest of the product is built primarily in Ruby, Rails, and JavaScript with AngularJS for the client dashboard. We use several storage technologies, including PostgreSQL and Redis. We deploy our Unicorns with Ansible to AWS, manage source and issues on GitHub and plan our daily tasks in Trello. Most importantly we post images of what we have for lunch in #watercooler on Slack. We all work on MacBooks (though most of us come from a Linux background).

Experience with information security or fraud prevention is a big plus.

    Work environment

    • We have no specific business hours, nor do we track number of hours worked. We don’t fiddle with sick leave or fixed vacation days. Employees are judged entirely on the results they produce and otherwise are free to work whenever they see fit.
    • We work from home, or coffee shops, or co-working spaces, or (hypothetically) a swimming pool in Brazil
    • We default to transparency and honesty. You will have deep visibility into how decisions are made and the financial status of the company.

      Product

Castle uses state-of-the-art machine learning to protect web and mobile apps from user account fraud. Users are profiled based on their typing patterns, mouse movements, device characteristics, browsing patterns, and hundreds of other signals. When something suspicious occurs, both the administrator and the user are alerted and can immediately take appropriate action, such as locking the account or having to go through additional verification.

      Why us?

Every line of code that you write will have a great impact. Every suggestion you make that can make our product perform better (ms, ROC, UX or $) has the potential to take the company a huge step forward. You will make a difference!

We're still a small company staying under the radar. Our vision is to transform the security industry in a way similar to how Stripe revolutionized payments – replacing the traditional sales-driven process with a five minute JavaScript snippet.

When it comes to company culture, building a diverse and inclusive team is at the heart of Castle. We look for voices unlike our own because they help us learn and expand our perspective. It's depressing to see inequality and exclusion as the defaults of the security industry. Without intentional effort, we will inherit those failings and worsen the problem.
