=======================================

ABOUT VECTR

For graphic designers (both newbies and pros) who are unhappy with Adobe’s bloated products, Vectr is a graphic design platform with a low learning curve and built-in collaboration. Unlike PhotoShop or Adobe Illustrator, Vectr is easy to learn and use. Collaboration works just like Google-docs, and you can use Vectr as both a web app or downloadable desktop app.

We’re a young company and this is an opportunity to join us at the earliest stages. We’re still in beta, our product has plenty of rough edges, and we’re looking for someone ambitious to help us shape what Vectr will become. You’ll be helping make design possible for people like Sarah: https://vectr.com/blog/vectr-meet-sarah/

This job is located in Taipei, Taiwan. We’ll take care of your work visa, and we’ll help you relocate - you don’t need to worry about any of that. Although we all live in Taipei, we work remotely during the week, which is why we wanted to post this here in remoteOK.

INTERFACE DESIGNER (WITH HTML/CSS SKILLS)

We’re looking for a designer to help us make Vectr the most beautiful designed, and most importantly the most usable editor there is. This includes working on the design of the app, as well as the vectr.com website, our HTML emails, and any other branding.

Your HTML/CSS skills should be good enough to get your designs into a fully coded static prototype. Basic JavaScript skills would be a nice bonus, but not required.

More than just a good eye for design, you’ll be responsible for measuring and optimizing Vectr’s usability. We take usability very seriously, and it’ll be your responsability to make sure that Vectr’s usability is always better this week than it was last. We’ll buy you a copy of some usability testing software, then set you loose interviewing users.

COMPANY CULTURE / HOW WE WORK

We’ve got a unique company culture. We all live in the same city - Taipei, Taiwan! - but we actually work remotely. Typically we’ll meet up twice a week, each Tuesday afternoon, in an awesome cafe.

Our work process is a (very simplified) version of Scrum, in two week sprints. During the two week sprint we’ll have two Tuesday meetings; one at the half-way mark, and the other at the sprint’s end. During the first meeting we just take the opportunity to work in the same room for a day. it’s a great chance to ask questions or get some help. During the second meeting we’ll test and deploy work from the previous sprint, then prepare for the next sprint. After that meeting is over, we all go get a beer to celebrate a sprint well done!

Between these Tuesday meetings each team member works independently, from coffee shops around the city.

WHO'S BACKING US

We’re backed by investment from Resolute Ventures (http://resolute.vc/), Interaction Ventures (http://www.interaction.vc/), Hedgewood Capital (http://www.hedgewood.com/), iNovia Capital (http://inovia.vc/), Michael Lints (http://www.michaellints.com/), and Guillermo Rauch (https://github.com/rauchg).

These investors include the man who built WordPress’ business-side, the lead investor in WordPress’ first round of funding, a number of practicing entrepreneurs, extremely successful former entrepreneurs, and some top developer talent.

Besides being an investor, Guillermo Rauch is also an advisor. Guillermo is the creator of socket.io, the author of Smashing Node.js: JavaScript Everywhere, and CTO of CloudUp (now WordPress).

The founder of Pixlr, Ola Sevandersson, is also an advisor. Ola single-handed built, designed, and grew Pixlr part-time before the company was acquired by Autodesk.

Ideal Candidate
We're interested in someone comfortable with a generalist and devops role. You should be knowledgeable of standard system administration tasks and have a firm understanding of the role of load balancers and cluster architecture. It's 100x harder to write code if you don't know how the underlying operating system works.
We're looking for someone with a legitimate passion for technology, big data, and analyzing vast amounts of content.
We are also looking for people outside of the U.S. and Canada to maximize our time zone distribution. Ideally there should be least a 4 hour overlap with the Pacific Standard Time Zone (PST / UTC-8). We're based out of San Francisco but are migrating to the international level. If you don't have a natural time overlap with UTC-8 you should be willing to work evenings to be able to communicate easily with the rest of the team.
Culturally, we’re a remote company and want to embrace it as a way to reward our employees. We are fine with you working in remote locations as long as you’re generally available for communication and are productive.
We want someone to come in full time in a contractor role. We will need about 40 hours from you per week.
Job Responsibilities:
Understanding our crawler infrastructure and ensuring top quality metadata for our customers. There's a significant batch job component to analyze the output from the crawl to ensure top quality data.
Making sure our infrastructure is fast, reliable, fault tolerant, etc. At times this may involve diving into the source of tools like ActiveMQ, Cassandra and understand how the internals work. We contribute a LOT to Open Source development if our changes need to be given back to the community.
Building out new products and technology that will directly interface with customers. This includes cool features like full text search, analytics, etc. It's extremely rewarding to build something from ground up and push it to customers directly.
Architecture:
Our infrastructure consists of Java on Linux (Debian/Ubuntu) with the stack running on ActiveMQ, Cassandra, Zookeeper, and Jetty. We use Ansible to manage our boxes. We have a full-text search engine based on Elasticsearch, and store our firehose API data within Cassandra.
We have a totally new stack and infrastructure at this point. We recently did a full-stack rewrite and moved all the old code to our new infrastructure. This means we have very little legacy cruft to deal with.
Here's all the cool stuff you get to play with:
Large Linux / Ubuntu cluster running with the OS versioned using both Ansible and our own debian packages for software distribution.
Massive amount of data indexed from the web and social media. We index from 5-20TB of data per month and want to expand to 100TB of data per month.
Large Cassandra install on SSD.
SOLR / Elasticsearch migration / install. We’re experimenting with bringing this up now so it would be valuable to get your feedback.
Technical Skills:
Here's where you shine! we're looking for someone with a number of the following requirements:
Linux. Linux. Linux. Did I say Linux? We like Linux.
Experience in modern Java development and associated tools.
Maven, IntelliJ IDEA, Guice (dependency injection)
A passion for testing, continuous integration, and continuous delivery.
Cassandra. Stores content indexed by our crawler.
ActiveMQ. Powers our queue server for scheduling crawl work.
A general understanding and passion for distributed systems.
Ansible or equivalent experience with configuration management.
Standard web API use and design. (HTTP, JSON, XML, HTML, etc).
Cultural Fit:
We’re a lean startup and very driven by our interaction with customers, as well as their happiness and satisfaction. Our philosophy is that you shouldn’t be afraid to throw away a week's worth of work if our customers aren’t interested in moving in that direction.
We hold the position that our customers are 1000x smarter than we are and we try to listen to them intently, and consistently.
Proficiency in English is a requirement. Since you will have colleagues in various countries with various primary language skills we all need to use English as our common company language. You must also be able to work with email, draft proposals, etc. Internally we work as a large distributed Open Source project and use tools like traditional email, Slack, Google Hangouts, and Skype.
Familiarity working with a remote team and ability (and desire) to work for a virtual company.
Should have a home workstation, fast Internet access, etc.
Must be able to manage your own time and your own projects.
Self-motivated employees will fit in well with the rest of the team.
It goes without saying but being friendly and a team player is very important.

Do you thrive on high-quality code?

8-) is a danish company, that currently consists of a few different projects, all developed in PHP and as WordPress plugins. We currently have two main projects that we’re building, and we love testing out new solutions and playing around with new technologies.

Our Projects

Affiliate Plug.in

Affiliate Plug.in is the oldest project. It’s a project that has been running since 2011, where the initial development began. The core features are creating price comparisons, by scraping webshops, primarily within the affiliate marketing industry.

The plugin is currently in it’s second version, but the development of v3 has begun, and is a rewrite from scratch, where the initial architecture has been defined.

Currently, Affiliate Plug.in only operates in Denmark, but the international potential is there, and with v3 we’re going all-in on the international approach.

TTF

TTF is the other main project of 8-). The development has just begun a month ago, and the initial thoughts about the architecture has just begun.

The project is essentially an analysis-platform, that calculates a set of results based on a lot of user input, through a formula created on a WordPress site.

The system is a bit unusual in the WordPress sense, since we’re using MongoDB as our data storage.

So far the project is still in it’s initial phase, so you’ll have great opportunities to impact the actual architecture and development in the future.

The skill set of the ideal candidate

We’re looking for a person to assist and take a leading role in developing the projects, alongside our current developer (and co-founder).

The requirements for this position are:

  • PHP, ninja-level
  • Git
  • HTML
  • CSS
  • JavaScript
  • WordPress

You do not have to be a WordPress export, but some knowledge about how WP is build, would be preferable.

As a bonus, but not a requirement, we’d love for you to have some experience with:

  • MongoDB
  • LESS/SCSS
  • Building WP Plugins/Themes
  • AngularJS

    The Team

Currently we are a team of 4 people. Lars is the original founder and developer of Affiliate Plug.in. Lasse teamed up with Lars and they founded 8-) together. Lasse has a background with online marketing.

On a daily basis, they’re working at DuGlemmerDetAldrig.dk, a danish startup which Lasse founded in 2012. Currently DGDA is a team of 11 people, whereas Lars, Leo and Jonathan are the developers and form the ‘technical team’.

Both Leo and Jonathan are also working on the TTF project at the moment, and you will be working with all 4 (Lars, Lasse, Leo and Jonathan) in your work with both Affiliate Plug.in and TTF.

Extra tags: wordpress, php, javascript, html, css, less, architecture, crawling

Repable powers data-informed decision making for streamers and eSports athletes. Our passion is gaming, and we're constantly flipping back and forth between hard work and quick bursts of Overwatch, Hearthstone, League & other games. We usually have Azubu, Twitch or YouTube live streaming in the background. Our expertise is in analytics & data, and we're pooling on that knowledge to change the way the gaming industry operates.

This is a front-end development position, working closely with the back-end, product management and UI/UX design team members. Your will primarily be creating and developing user interfaces for gamers using our platform. They'll rely on the UI to make decisions about their weekly gameplay, and will make those decisions based on how you present data to them. We want someone passionate about UI/UX, who understands that development is a series of problem solving exercises to fulfill user goals.

This position requires prior experience. You're ideally not straight out of a programming boot camp, unless you were among the best in your class. You may need to create assets from time to time, but you'll be focusing largely on the development side of our user experience, onboarding and dashboards.

We’re a small team based out of Toronto, ON but are looking for like-minded individuals to grow with us within North America. You don't need to live in Canada to be eligible for this position, but we'd prefer it if you were.

What your first year will look like:

  • You'll be constantly working with our UI/UX designer to iterate on and implement design concepts. As such, you won't need to spend a lot of time in asset-creation land (unless you want to), but rather in the code itself.
  • You'll guide the front-end vision of the company by choosing the languages and frameworks that we use, and make sure that they can scale with us appropriately.
  • You'll be making data-informed decisions, and will share tasks in the artful balance between putting your code out in the wild and tracking it to understand if it's working as intended.
  • You'll hit your head against the limitations of beautiful email mail-outs. More on that during the interview.

    Requirements:

  • The standard stuff you'd expect to see in any front-end position. CSS, HTML, frameworks, etc. You know what those things are and how to use them.
  • You understand how to present data to users, and the technical ramifications of your methods. This is a VERY vast topic, and you'll be expected to speak intelligently about it.
  • Worked in startups before. You understand the intricacies of working with a small team, and are ready to do it all over again.

    Qualifications:

Experience: 1 to 4 years experience in a similar role.
    Language: English
  • We substantially prefer experience over academia.

    Skills:

User Interface, Design User Experience, Data Visualization, Analytics, HTML, CSS

    Perks:

  • Work with people who have done this before
  • A competitive startup salary
  • Stock options - a part of this company could be yours
  • Grow the early stage of a company

Extra tags: User Interface Design, User Experience, Data Visualization, HTML , CSS

Reposting as our last post had a broken link.

We are a group of freelancers who were sick of searching for PHP freelance jobs. So instead we made Hacker Leads. We send you 50-70 PHP jobs a month, straight to your inbox. Check it out and give us feedback!

We are looking for a designer/developer who will have two main goals:

  1. Brainstorm creative changes to our sites that improve traffic and performance, and then...
  2. Make those ideas happen.

He or she must be able to continually imagine new strategies — everything from the obvious to the insane — and then design them, build them, test them, report on them, and finally make them live.

    Skills & experience…

Web development. Proficient in JS, HTML, CSS, WordPress, and PHP (optional but preferred).

A/B testing. You know how to set up and track A/B tests that measure whether users are doing what you are predicting they do.

Design. Proficient in the major design softwares. UX-driven.

Comfortable in Google Analytics. You know what questions to ask regarding the effectiveness of your tests and you know where to look to get the data.

Data-driven aesthetics. You have your design ideals, sure, but you’ll shut them down as soon as you see the numbers pointing toward a different aesthetic. If the data shows that Papyrus is the font people click on more, we use it. It hurts, we know…but it works.

Familiarity with the viral web. You understand that even though this corner of the web is all about happy and heartwarming content, really it’s a strategy and numbers game. And you want to win.

Self-motivated. You care enough to do something crazy. We don’t want to ask for your ideas every day. We want to tell you to chill out because you have too many ideas on your own. And when you’ve been given the green light on an idea, you drive the project forward with little need for oversight.

Cunning. You push every boundary except ethical ones in your creative attempts to grow traffic and improve performance.

Self-learner. When you need to know something that you don’t already, you figure it out.

Confident and personable. You can interact well with the team, pitch your ideas, and convince the rest of us to try your crazy plans.

Idea-generation. “Brainstorm” is too mild of a word for the insane rush of creative thought spinning around in your mind.

    This role’s constant workflow…

    • Have a new idea for how traffic and site performance might improve.
    • Design and develop this innovation.
    • Create and track A/B tests to see if your new idea is effective.
    • Analyze data and create a report based on the results.
    • Present the results to the team.
    • Decide with the team whether to implement the new idea.
    • Implement the proven idea on the site.
    • Manage meticulous QA.
    • Start over at step 1.

Company

Nomad List wants to propel the remote work revolution. It provides services that try to make the life of digital nomads easier. It helps digital nomads find the best places to live and work, gives them the information to make better travel choices and connects them with other travelers through its community platforms like #nomads and the Digital Nomad Forum.

Position

You will help us build out the platform that future remote workers will use.

You will build new features, refactor and improve old code and connect different sites/platforms together.

You will primarily work on PHP back-end code, shell scripts, administering the NGINX server and manage scheduled workers with crontab (and in the future RabbitMQ). Secondary, you'll help draft designs of new features in CSS. The code is most important, but if you can also design as well, that's a great plus.

You will help maintain, update and secure the server, therefore having some DevOps experience is a great plus.

We don't use any frameworks, just plain code. It's a very big plus, if you understand conceptually why frameworks can be a bad idea for a large site/app and if you're able to write great code yourself without them.

You will ship very fast. The time from a new feature idea to shipping is very short. And it's fine if bugs happen, as long as they're worked out in the long-term.

This position requires you to have a great comprehension of PHP and JavaScript, and secondary HTML, CSS and basic modern web design principles.

Your main focus will be on developing new features, building enhancements and supporting/maintaining our PHP5.6 (and getting ready for 7!) application within GitHub.

You'll work with HTML5/CSS3, appreciate a clean/simple UI and be all "OMG!!!1 RESTful JSON API, jQuery, handlebarise all the things!" and know what that means!

We work with some chunky MySQL databases, so profiling and optimising experience is essential.

You'll have a good understanding, and be able to take advantage of, the broader technologies we use and rely upon such as Vagrant/Puppet, Composer, Redis, LAMP/SSL, AWS S3, DNS, SSH /SFTP, PHPUnit and Behat.

We're big believers in "Done is better than Perfect", so when you come across code that isn't quite MVC and hasn't seen a unit test, you're still able to quickly carry on with the task at hand while concocting a cunning plan for improvement.

You'll join in with your fair share of evening/weekend on-call support for which you're paid extra on top of salary. This is only used for rare emergencies (2–3 times/year) but provides vital reassurance for our customers.

Work from home, or wherever you like really

We love working remotely, so above all, you need to be comfortable in that environment or be willing to try something new. This means you get to choose where you work, providing you're suitably drenched in wi-fi and in reach of Trello/Slack. We're all about the output, and trust you to do a great job wherever you are.

That said, a lot of the team live in Leicester so usually meet up in person every week or two with lunch on us, just because it's nice to do so. And we work closely with our customers, so it's likely you'll need to say hello to them in person a couple of times a year too.

With great power, comes great responsibility

Attention to detail, clear written skills and the ability to work in a team are essential.

Since we're not usually all in the same room, you absolutely must be able to communicate well, and share progress often. That doesn't mean we interrupt/distract each other though, as we're firm believers in being approachable through asynchronous working.

We'll expect you to be constantly learning and developing your skills, and to be fully involved in sprint planning, retros and daily scrums along with all the developers and our project manager.

DESCRIPTION

From experience we know that design and development must be closely aligned for a project to succeed, and that every project will be more efficient with a tightly integrated team. As technology shifts and allows us to update our design process to be more efficient and streamlined we take advantage of it.

We don’t build websites, we design creative solutions using technology and design to solve our client’s issues and pain points. We implement design to make the world more beautiful as well as more functional, and we need you to help.

Our company culture:

  • We’re based in Santa Fe, NM but most of our team works remotely
  • We have flexible schedules as long as the work is getting done
  • If you have an idea to make your life better, or the rest of the team’s lives better, we’re all ears
  • If you just have good ideas, we’re all ears
  • We want you to be the best, at whatever it is you want to be the best at
  • We’re looking for front end developers to join us remotely, developing web sites and apps for great clients and on fun projects, the likes of which you can see here www.dsire.com

We see you handling the front end aspects of a project with our amazing team of designers and developers. The workload will sometimes be hectic, but the atmosphere is cheerful and positive. We want to put you in a position to write and deploy the best solutions that you can. Schedules are flexible as long as we are meeting our client’s needs.

We’re looking for intelligent people who have an eagerness to learn new things, and the communication skills to be able to explain them to humans including our project managers and clients. Daily we live on HipChat, InVisionapp.com and in Teamwork.com for internal communication and collaboration

As well as the technical knowledge, we need people who can figure things out by themselves but know when to ask for help. Cutting down and simplifying complex problems with interfaces which make them straightforward and usable.

The more pressing needs definitely require familiarity and comfort with PHP frameworks, Laravel and ImpressPages

If you’re interested please reply with some examples of your work and what specifically you were responsible for in developing the projects. Doesn’t need to be a long list - just choose the top 3 or 4 projects you are the most proud of, and anything else you think we should know. We do work remotely but it’s always nice to work with people in the same time zone and close to home.

    SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS

You should probably know a bit about:

  • Architecting and developing complex JavaScript-powered applications
  • Working closely with backend developers and UX designers
  • Comfort applying themes to typical CMS' and frameworks like Drupal and Laravel
  • Enjoy semantically marked up HTML
  • CSS, including SASS

The Zotero team is looking for a full-time, contract product designer to work on all user-facing aspects of the Zotero ecosystem. You’ll develop a unified visual identity for use across Zotero’s products and then spearhead a major redesign of zotero.org and Zotero’s desktop apps to create the best web, desktop, and mobile experiences possible. We’re looking for someone with UI, UX, and HTML/CSS skills — your job will be to design interfaces that are as easy to use as they are beautiful and then to dive into the code to help implement those designs, assisted by Zotero’s developers.

Zotero is a powerful tool used by a wide range of people, to collect, organize, and share everything from recipes to historical documents to climate science studies, and one of your challenges will be to design interfaces that can accommodate this diverse range of uses and make Zotero’s advanced functionality accessible to new users. As part of a small team, you’ll have a great deal of autonomy and the freedom to experiment. Most importantly, you’ll participate in a vibrant global open-source community with amazing community developers and passionate users.

The core Zotero development team meets periodically in person (conference room in Virginia, falafel joint in Paris, cafe in New York City), but you’ll primarily be working remotely, communicating with Zotero developers and users via chat rooms, forums, and GitHub. We have a highly collaborative but asynchronous workflow, and you’ll be in control of your own schedule.

Requirements

  • Extensive product design experience, preferably on consumer-facing software and/or websites, with a portfolio of work
  • Solid understanding of current HTML/CSS standards
  • Awareness of accessibility issues and techniques
  • Strong communication skills — we discuss and debate nearly everything we do, so it’s critical that you can (and want to!) take part in that

    Bonus Points

  • Previous remote work experience

    About Zotero

Zotero is an open-source project that develops software and web services to help people collect, organize, cite, and share their research. We are a largely virtual company with major efforts in Austin, TX.

You’ll be reporting to our lead developer and working with our whole team. We’re all about information marketing so you’ll be working with some of the best in the industry. You’ll be responsible for making sure that our content is delivered to our clients and fast and effectively as possible.

This is a work-from-home position, and you will be expected to work about 20-40 hours a week. *We only hire top talent*, and have high expectations... so if you thrive around intelligent, driven people (and just as importantly, you're fun and optimistic) then you'll fit in great here.

Here are some things that we'll expect of you:

- Develop web pages based on set specifications

- Test your pages in different browsers supported by tools(e.g. crossbrowsertesting.com) and provide a self-test report for each

- Coordinate end-to-end tests with Lead Developer and QA team

- Run tests on a sequence of pages to check validity of analytics, conversion tracking pixels, etc. and document test results

- Review work to find bugs and problems

- Reviewing test protocols and improving them

- Setting up Wordpress installations and Wordpress themes

- Adapting Wordpress themes to our needs

- Create and follow a Style Guide to bring consistency to the suite of sites we run

- Replicate the functionality of other sites we send you and reproduce on our own sites.

- Convert PSDs to pixel perfect HTML

As for your working personality, we expect that...

- You deliver very clean, high quality code

- You like to keep your edge sharp and keep up to date with technology trends and the fast-moving world of web technologies

- You have a broad understanding of how HTML/CSS/jQuery works

- You get the Full Stack and can work with your back-end system peers

- You're able to work on tasks with a quick turnaround time

- You're detail-oriented

- You're regularly available during EST/EDT working hours via Skype

...and most important, that you actually think about and review what you've developed. We've worked with far too many developers who send us work that's full of obvious errors in formatting, artwork placement, spacing, and so on. We don't expect you to be a mind-reader, but we expect you to have an eye for making things look 'right'.

About Us

We’re a small, fully-remote team focussed on building great products for an industry (commercial real estate) that’s still largely undisrupted by technology. Our wild start-up days are behind us – we're all grown up and profitable now with a 14-year track record and users that love us. We’re working on some big things and could really use some help.

As our design lead, you'll be doing a little bit of everything:

  • Helping with the UX and overall product design
  • Designing and implementing responsive interfaces with HTML, CSS, and some JS, working alongside developers, pushing code daily
  • If you’re up for it, occasionally lending a hand with marketing, brand management, content strategy, and print design

    About You

  • Usability is very important to you, and empathy is one of your defining characteristics.
  • You aren't afraid of JavaScript (maybe you’ve even dabbled in some frameworks like Backbone or React), and the command line doesn’t freak you out.
  • You stay up with the latest-and-greatest ideas and processes, and consciously work to become a better designer every day.
  • Like us, you value stability, work/life balance, group decisions, and working with people that are good-natured, interesting, hard-working, and self-motivated.

    Catylist is for you if...

  • You feel lost and unappreciated in the corporate bureaucracy of a big company.
  • You're so over the chaos and uncertainty of a start-up. You like having reasonable hours and knowing that your job will be around next week.
  • Freelance work is not your bag. You prefer to focus on solving large, complex design problems rather than wrangling clients.

This is a full-time (40 hours per week), remote, W2 position with benefits (health/dental/vision/401k).

Once A Month Meals (OAMM) believes that family and health shouldn’t come at the cost of your work, time or hobbies. Sitting around the dinner table, eating with those you care about and enjoying a meal full of nutritional value is paramount to our mission. We began and continue to operate, creating patent-pending software, that empowers individuals to bring back family dinner time without sacrificing the little spare time they have available; giving you time for what matters most.

OAMM is the premier site for everything busy people need to make freezer cooking easy. Since 2012, OAMM has operated under a paid subscription model that now offers members access to our patent pending menu building software and custom built user management database. OAMM is committed to steady growth, self-funding, and evolving our product in an effort to better serve our customers.

OAMM’s technology stack consists of three apps written in Ruby on Rails, Ember.js, and WordPress. We have a proven business model and a growing membership that is heavily supported by APIs built on Rails that will continue to evolve.

Technology Stack:

  • Ruby on Rails
  • Ember.js
  • Coffeescript
  • MySQL
  • Postgres
  • Solr
  • WordPress
  • Sass

    Our Ideal Candidate:

OAMM is looking to add to its technology team by hiring an Experienced Ruby Developer.

We’re looking for a friendly developer who can work well with our remote team, have fun on Slack, and write maintainable, scalable, test driven code for our two Rails apps. As part of the OAMM technology team, you’ll gain experience in freezer cooking, “cooking math,” ecommerce, and more. You’ll need to be comfortable with SQL databases like MySQL or Postgres, and either understand (or be able to come up to speed quickly on) Solr. Experience designing, building, and supporting HTTP APIs with authentication is important, because we leverage a number of third party APIs for crucial aspects of our systems. It is also important that this person understands how to design and code for scalability as we have a very large audience and some unique traffic patterns.

Your primary role will be Rails development, but we’d love for you to have some frontend stack chops as well. Coffeescript, Sass, and HTML should be familiar to you. And, if you’re willing to learn, we can provide opportunities for training.

You’ll report directly to our Technical Director, but don’t be surprised if you interact with all our lovely full-time staffers in a typical day. Sparkbox will continue to be our agency for design and development consulting, and you will work closely with OAMM’s Technical Director and the Sparkbox team.

Because we are a distributed team, we’d love for you to have experience working remotely. Distributed teams have their advantages and disadvantages, and we’d love for you to already know what those are. And being remote requires a certain level of communication—so we’re in need of someone who can communicate very well.

If this sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you!

Who we are

With LaterPay, we want to change the way people buy and sell digital content on the Internet. Why? Because we believe paying for digital content should be fast, convenient, and fair. And because we think you should be able to buy the exact piece of content you want.

We want to create a great software product which influences and changes the way people use paid content of any kind on the Internet. The usage of paid content should be as easy and convenient as going out to dinner: you are served first and pay later.
We want to build a user-centric product that makes users feel smart. It should represent the simplest, most secure way to buy digital goods. We want to change the way people regard paid content, turning it into a great experience. We want to enable businesses to offer "paid content as a service", convincing users of their content's value instead of forcing them to pay before actually getting the content.

We want to create an environment of excellence in which performance meets comfort and fun. We have an office, located in the center of Munich next to the Isar River, but around half of the company works remotely, meeting up together every few months.

What we have

Our back-end stack is primarily built around Python/Django, so some of our services use the Django Templating Language for HTML.

Out front-end stack varies from project to project but we primarily use these technologies:

  • Gulp
  • NPM for dependency management
  • The inuit.css Framework
  • CommonJS modules used with browserify
  • React.js

Slack, JIRA, and GitHub are our working tools for communication and code.

    Things we’re particularly looking for

  • Knowledge of creating high performance websites and web-apps
  • Experience writing component-based CSS and JavaScript (following CommonJS)
  • Knowing how to configure Gulp and extend the toolchain if necessary
  • Ideally, you have some experience with building widgets or web components
