  • Writing tests and making your code readable to others in case you get eaten by a yeti
  • Setting up A/B tests to investigate how we can accelerate our growth
  • Sharing what you’re doing and any problems you’re having in the daily engineering standup
  • Going to meetups and conferences to represent appear.in

    About you

  • You get to work with modern development tools like GitHub, Terraform, Amazon AWS, Slack.
  • You will become part of a tightly knit team of highly passionate people who aim to create the best possible user experience. We are not afraid of challenging status quo and aim for radical simplicity in everything we do.

  • We have awesome team building trips!

DESCRIPTION

We're running an Exclusive Hiring Event on April 14th to hire VP's of Technical Product Management (USD $200K/yr).

This event will include all testing for the role. Upon grading the deliverables from the event, we will set up qualified candidates with an interview with the hiring manager. This is a 100% remote, full-time role.

You can see more details about this role here: https://www.crossover.com/vpproductmanagement?utm_campaign=Apr14Tournament

The VP of Technical Product Management position is responsible for making the most fundamental design and architecture decisions across a broad portfolio of products. Their primary deliverables are highly technical product specs that make the Important Technical Decisions (ITDs) for a product.

Unfortunately, most companies do a terrible job at this. They do not do the hard work up front and they start coding too early. They don’t invest in developing expertise and innovation, they build roadmaps based on what competitors are already delivering or on the tactical needs of the sales team. Their technical product managers focus on UIs and mockups instead of the product’s core data structures and algorithms.

As a VP of TPM, you will own critical decisions across a range of products. You will work on brand new products as well as existing products and a wide range of technologies in between.

Candidate Requirements:

  • BS in CompSci, CompE, or EE

  • 5+ years of hands-on production code development in Java or C#

  • 3+ years experience making the core technical design decisions that were then implemented by other developers

  • Able to identify and articulate patterns in unstructured and unorganized content

  • Excellent written communication skills including architecture diagrams, data flows, and system component diagrams

  • A passion for creating work in a process-driven way and working with team members to continuously improve that process

We recommend that you attend the event instead of applying online, as our Saturday event process will be much faster.

Register at the green button, Webinar address and test platform link will be sent to confirmed candidates.

Collegevine

Elm Developer

Collegevine

dev

digital nomad

dev

3d

Apply

CollegeVine is seeking an Elm or PureScript developer to help engineer inviting front-end experiences that have real social impact.

At CollegeVine, our mission is to level the playing field of higher education attainment, regardless of socioeconomic status. To do this, we intend to make virtual guidance services available and affordable for all through a combination of near-peer mentorship and technology. We have an unending list of interesting problems to solve: how to predict if someone will be a good mentor for a given student; how to manage tens of thousands of high-quality, ongoing human relationships simultaneously; how to ingest thousands of applications requirements and produce an optimal plan of attack—just to name a few.

Our ideal candidate for this role satisfies three requirements:

  1. You have proven experience in Elm or PureScript (or even Haskell, F#, or OCaml, but want to apply your talents to the front-end) and want to get even better.
  2. You have a product-focused mindset; this means you prioritize business value and project delivery above academic interests related to the language.
  3. You are discerning about engineering culture. Some keywords for ours are growth-oriented, genuine, self-aware, pragmatic, autonomous, mindful, and remote-friendly.

Note: We may have a more junior role available in the near future, but this one is not it! If you'd like to be considered for that role when it opens up, please apply for this one and note in your cover letter that you are interested in a junior role. We will add your resume to our database for future consideration.

    Your first month

    • Onboard rapidly in a pre-existing codebase. We loved the ideas behind Elm but felt that we could do it better in PureScript (we started off as a bunch of senior Haskell devs), so we made our own Elm-ish framework. It works almost exactly like Elm, except in (our opinion) a more powerful language.
    • Begin building a relationship with your manager in a weekly one-on-one. We'll discuss who you are, how you got here, what's important to you, how you want to grow, and anything else that matters to you.
    • Pair program with some of the senior devs on the team who have been doing FP for many years
    • Ship code to production within your first week

      Your third month

    • Become autonomous in our codebase, having completed at least one small feature on your own and on your way to delivering a much larger one with much more business value.
    • Develop a deeper intuition for our various product lines. Begin having ideas about how you might impact their success.
    • Receive detailed feedback on your progress relative to our expectations. Give detailed feedback on our progress relative to your expectations.
    • If you are remote, have visited HQ at least once by now and joined us for our regular course of company social events.

      Your first year

    • Build deep expertise in one or more areas of the code.
    • Try your hand at a few full-stack problems. If you know Elm and PureScript, Haskell is just a short hop away. And all the other languages are basically easy at this point.
    • Develop a reputation for shipping and delivering business value early while also pushing code quality forward along the axes that you care about.
    • Stay accountable to your personal development goals that you have discussed with your manager.
    • Gain clarity on where you want to go next in your career. We'll help you get there.

      Other considerations

    • This position can be remote for the right person. Please be aware that the interview process may be slightly more drawn out for remote candidates if you are only able to do full-time right away. If you are able to contract with us first, we are much less risk-averse. Please mention your relevant situation in your cover letter.
    • We are pragmatically polyglot. Here's what we are serving in production: Haskell, PureScript, JS, Ruby, Python, Bash, PHP (don't worry - custom Wordpress blog plugin that we wrote long ago and never touched since), R, SQL.
    • Old-school ed-tech user experiences are not acceptable to us. Our software must impress and work for a wide audience since we serve students and their families. On any given day, your code will be run by high schoolers, college students, young professionals, guidance counselors, parents, and grandparents from all walks of life.
    • Please submit a cover letter. We read them carefully and it forms our first impression of you.

      Benefits

    • Medical, dental, and vision insurance with a generous employer contribution.
    • Regular team dinners and company outings.
    • A culture of mentorship. Become the near-peer mentor for one (or more!) of our consultants or program managers and be the help you wish you had when you were in college.
    • Flexible hours with a 4-hour core - plan the rest of your workday as you wish, just give us the majority of your most creative hours. Productivity ideas: avoid traffic, never wait in line at the grocery store, wake up without an alarm clock, be around for your family.
    • Goal-based environment (as opposed to grind-based or decree-based environment; work smarter, not harder; intelligently, not mindlessly). We collaborate on setting goals, but you set your own process for accomplishing those goals. You will be entrusted with a lot of responsibility and you might even experience fulfillment and self-actualization as a result.
    • Join an engineering culture that celebrates mindfulness and takes the quality of your attention seriously. We don't spam our slack channels; your manager will not come tap you on the shoulder asking for pointless things; we write things down after we discuss them in person; we try to minimize meetings.

Expect autonomy in exchange for transparency and results. Since you are well-read, curious, and self-aware, we will treat you like the awesome, interesting adult that you are. We have core hours and a goal-based environment; we understand mindfulness and the value of deep focus. We're chasing a big idea and we need every good teammate we can find.

Scott's Cheap Flights is the world's leading flight deal alert platform.

We're obsessed with helping people travel more often and discover new destinations by finding unpublished sales, mistake fares and incredible deals on international flights.

We live for the moments when we uncover deals on routes like San Francisco to Hawaii for $177 round-trip (usually $900) or New York to New Zealand for $245 (usually $1,500).

Since opening up our platform to the public in 2015, we've grown to over 1,000,000 subscribers around the world, in large part by word of mouth.

Join us and do the best work of you life:

We’re looking for a Senior Backend Developer to join our fully-remote team and take a leadership role in building our next set of products and features.

If you're happiest and do your best work working remotely, alongside a small team of developers with a ton of ownership, autonomy and room for growth, Scott's Cheap Flights might be a great fit.

Curious to learn more? Check out Scott's $1,000 round-the-world journey: https://vimeo.com/241553169

As a Senior Backend Developer at Scott's Cheap Flights you will:

  • Build apps, features and tools for our 1,500,000+ subscribers, as well as our internal teams (Flight Search, Customer Advocacy, etc.).

  • Take concepts, wireframes, and designs from idea to prototype or product and everything in between.

  • Work closely with the growth team to design and run experiments, as well as implement tools and services to help us maximize the effectiveness of our website.

  • Design and develop REST APIs.

  • Ensure our systems scale and can support our rapid growth.

  • Collaborate with other team members and foster a culture of creativity and technical excellence in our engineering team.

Required skills & experience:

  • You love getting your hands dirty and taking ownership and responsibility for the products you're working on.

  • You have extensive experience developing websites, apps, APIs and tools from scratch using Ruby and Ruby on Rails and Javascript (ES6).

  • You have a solid understanding of performance and scalability of Ruby, Rails and web apps.

  • You’re experienced writing automated unit tests (integrated and functional test experience is a valuable bonus).

  • You have strong relational database modeling skills and can drop into SQL queries generated by an ORM to troubleshoot.

  • You’re comfortable and effective working autonomously on a fully-remote team primarily during US-timezones.

  • You’re an exceptional communicator, both verbally and through writing (we’re a remote team and frequently work asynchronously).

Our company values:

  • Be a team player.

  • Embrace change.

  • Advocate for subscribers.

  • Communicate clearly.

Perks and benefits:

  • 100% remote company -- no soul crushing commute required.

  • Competitive salary and equity.

  • Unlimited time off: We are a travel company, after all!

  • Health insurance (for US-based employees).

  • Equipment: We'll make sure you have the hardware you need to do your best work.

  • Family leave: 3-months paid time off to take care of your new baby.

We're a 100% remote team:

  • Our team is distributed around the globe and as a remote-only company we have all of the infrastructure in place to work well both synchronously and asynchronously including Slack, Zoom, Google Team Drive, Geekbot, etc.

  • Since we don't have any offices, nobody accidentally gets left out while the rest of the team huddles in a conference room or water cooler.

Sound like a good fit? We look forward to receiving your application.

*Please note that while we are a remote team, we are looking for candidates who are available to work during USA timezones.

ABOUT YOU
You are a passionate developer that understands a developer’s needs. You have practical
experience building sophisticated applications on-premise and in-cloud (e.g. AWS). You think of servers as ephemeral in nature – you can replicate an entire application stack on any
infrastructure, on-premises or in-cloud. Your role as a developer is not just writing code, but
shipping and running it fully and be responsible for uptime in production. You pick a language,
runtime, library, framework that makes most sense to the solve the problem at hand – yes that
might mean Haskell or Go language in some cases. You strive continuously to improve the
quality, reliability, availability of the product/service, yet balance that with speed to deliver. You
are not afraid of calling out the obvious, though your opinion might be in the minority. Your
communication style is to continuously follow-up and seek feedback to make progress.

WHAT YOU’D BE DOING
Under general supervision of the engineering manager, the software Engineer is a full-stack
engineer designing, developing, deploying and supporting applications built in the cloud. The
applications might be legacy applications, being replatformed or brand new applications that are built from scratch. As a full-stack engineer, some of your work will involve database, some
building API and yet some others involved in writing front-end code spanning across a plethora of application types – Transaction systems, analytical systems, tools and scripts automating processes, data-automation, building visualizations and so on.

This month

Millions of people experience real-life adventures with our apps. We help users all over the world discover the best hiking and biking routes, working to empower everybody to explore more of the great outdoors. And we’re good at what we do: Google and Apple have listed us as one of their Apps of the Year numerous times—and we are consistently ranked amongst the highest-grossing apps in both Google Play and the App Store.

One key driving factor to our growth has always been our understanding that a technological approach can provide an outdoor experience far beyond the possibilities of traditional services. On the one side, we collect, combine and process various open data sources (such as OSM and Wikipedia) and turn raw data into easily accessible information and understandable products, such as our easy-to-use outdoor route planner. On the other, we leverage the wisdom of our vast user base and use crowdsourced data for personalized, local outdoor recommendations. Now, with your strong analytical skills and your passion for building well-crafted and tested code, we’ll leave traditional, standard solutions even further behind—and we’ll truly change the way people explore.

Your key responsibilities

  • Implement new features closely together with our web and mobile developers, designers, copywriters and product managers.
  • Develop and tune algorithms to leverage our content recommendation, rankings, content analyses and product smartness.
  • Build new and improve existing micro-services, primarily in Java/Kotlin and Python.
  • Use the AWS ecosystem to build resilient and high-performing systems.

    Why you will love it

  • You’ll work on a global product that inspires millions of users.
  • You’ll get system access on your first day, as we know you are a smart and responsible engineer.
  • You’ll take ownership over your projects from day one (from concept to implementation; testing, deployment and monitoring).
  • Your challenging tasks will keep improving your skills and keep you up-to-date with the latest technologies.
  • We have a wide range of diverse challenges, in particular in the GIS domain.
  • We believe good ideas count more than hierarchies.
  • You’ll work together with enthusiastic engineers, hikers and cyclists.
  • You’ll travel together with our team to amazing outdoor places several times a year to exchange ideas, learnings and go for hikes and rides.
  • We let you work from wherever you want, be it a beach, the mountains, our headquarters in Potsdam or anywhere else that lies between the time zones UTC-1 and UTC+3.

You will be successful in this position if you

  • Are highly self-driven, responsible and keen to learn and improve.
  • Know your toolkit: git, ssh, bash, junit, jenkins and docker.
  • Have deep experience (4+ years) in developing software running under high load
  • Possess professional experience in Java and Python.
  • Have demonstrable knowledge of common algorithms within the machine learning and statistics space.
  • Have strong analytical skills.
  • Love to tune, test, simulate and evaluate solutions to unusual problems.
  • Live and breathe DevOps and believe in automated testing, infrastructure as code, continuous deployment, monitoring and open communication.

    Sound like you?
    Then send us the following:

  • Your CV.
  • A write-up explaining who you are and why you are interested in working at komoot.
  • Examples of your work (e.g. GitHub, PDFs, Slideshare, etc.).
  • Something that shows us a little more about what you’re interested in, be it your Twitter/Instagram account or your blog.
  • As we love people that go the extra mile, you’ll get bonus points for doing something creative with komoot.

How do you apply?

Please apply through our website with a resume and cover letter.

Help fix the legal industry!

The way legal transactions are done is filled with inefficiencies, which leads to ridiculously high legal fees. We're fixing this by building software that automates and streamlines the process.

We're profitable and growing sustainably. We're the most popular way for high-growth technology startups to incorporate. Y Combinator and other top accelerators use our software to handle their investment paperwork. Our product is used by tons of top tier startups and investors.

We're a quiet leader in the legal technology space - if you are interested in changing the legal industry, this is arguably the best place to be.

Notes on our stack and process:

  • Our backend is mostly in Ruby on Rails, with very small amounts of Scala and Go as well.
  • Our front-end is mostly in Ember.
  • We use CI extensively for linting, tests, visual diffs, and deployment.
  • We're not religious about any particular technology - we believe in using the right tool for a given problem.

This is a great fit if you want to work:

  • ... at a product-driven company bringing an old-fashioned industry into the future
  • ... on a complex product, with a ton of engineering challenges
  • ... on a well-loved product with a lot of usage and visibility in the startup community
  • ... in a company that strongly values good software development practices
  • ... at a financially sound company
  • ... with bright people who are extremely passionate about their work
  • ... where you'll be a key early software engineer

As a junior software engineer at Clerky, you will:

  • Maintain and add features to our Middleman and Gitbook sites
  • Maintain our builds and continuous integration setups
  • Investigate bugs and sporadic test failures
  • Implement features and fix bugs in our main application
  • Work with top-notch senior engineers (all of us have 10+ years experience)

    Firm requirements:

  • Strong ability to learn on your own. You will receive some mentorship and guidance from our senior software engineers, but you should expect to learn mostly on your own.
  • Discipline and patience to write clean code and use best practices. We are unlike most startups and write code to last - we do not rapidly iterate on prototypes.

This position is 100% remote. We are happy to support an H-1B visa application after 2 years of employment.

YOUR IMPACT

As a Senior Support Engineer at CircleCI you will have an impact every day by working directly with our customers to help them get the best from the CircleCI platform. You’ll be working directly with developers (both customers and CircleCI engineers) to help shape and improve the the product and customer experience.

As a Senior Support Engineer you’ll focus on technical ‘deep-dives’ to get to the bottom of problems and create solutions. We’d rather you spent a day solving a tricky problem for an important customer than running through 30 easy tickets. You’ll be writing scripts, suggesting configuration enhancements and automating processes for customers and our internal tooling. Writing bug reports and escalations for the product and engineering teams is an important part of the role. You’ll be given plenty of autonomy to do what’s right and in the best interests of our customers.

We’ve raised $59.5M in venture capital from Industry Ventures, Top Tier Capital, Scale Venture Partners, DFJ, Harrison Metal Capital, and Baseline Ventures.

Requirements:

  • To apply for this role you should be located in an APAC equivalent timezone - UTC +13 to UTC +8 so you do not need to work far outside of normal business hours where you live.

  • You have strong Linux / Unix based operating system knowledge with at least two years professional experience using command line tools on a daily basis. Bash and shell scripting skills are required.
  • You have some professional experience developing web and / or mobile applications.
  • You’ve written code in more than one language such as Ruby, Python, PHP, JavaScript, or Java
  • You’re familiar with the ecosystems around the web application stacks for some of these languages (their frameworks, dependency management tools and deployment options).
  • You’re familiar with relational and non-relational databases and their configuration options.
  • You’re experienced with Git and GitHub / Bitbucket.
  • You’ve worked with Docker and container based technologies.
  • You’re comfortable searching and reading log files to locate the source of problems.

  • You’re patient and resilient, with an excellent sense of humor.
  • You have determination and take initiative and ownership to see things through to completion. If it needs doing, you do it.
  • You are self-sufficient and love the challenge of solving problems and learning new things (especially about computing and programming).

    1. We get an idea of what’s happening via Analytics and Data Science, (Find more about Analytics and data science)
    2. We improve their sales using CRO techniques (Find more about CRO)
    3. We get more people on the site using Paid Search (aka AdWords), SEO, content marketing, and PR (Find more about Search)

We are picky about the clients we bring on-board.
We won’t engage with a firm unless we believe we can make a difference to their business and help them Get Stuff Done.

This stops us from taking on board demoralising projects and having us hating our jobs and our clients.
We have sacked clients a few times not because we were not making money but because we were not making a difference and they were taking too much headspace for nothing.

The current agency model is broken, and we believe we can build a better alternative. But we need great people to help make this happen and that where you come in.

      Our Core Values

      Drive & GSD
  • Questions that reflect this value: Am I looking at Outcome or I am just satisfied with Output or even worse Input?
  • Statement that reflects this value: Done is Better than Perfect.
    Curious & Creative
  • Questions that reflect this value: Does it have to be this way?
  • Statement that reflects this value: OK, let me see if there is a better solution to solve this problem
    Dependability & Independence
  • Questions that reflect this value: Can I count on you?
  • Statement that reflects this value: Yep, I got this! Not sure exactly how but I'll figure it out
    Humility & Honesty
  • Questions that reflect this value: Is this the right thing to do? I am new to this, can you teach me?
  • Statement that reflects this value: Oh man... the more I learn about [topic], the less I feel like I know what I am talking about

Career progression is based on your ability to deliver and drive ideas and difference for both client and the company, not your ability to play politics or by the cut of your suit.
(in fact, we have a no pinstripe suit policy, we are not Accenture)

    The Practical Bits

We work with a lot of freelancers/digital nomads so we put together our policies to fit their needs.

  • We agree on a price (per day, per hour, per article, per project) early on and try to stick to it.
We prefer price per article or per project as it is output/outcome driven rather than input driven.
For per project/article price, we review within the first 1-2 months to make sure estimates on both sides are correct.
  • We pay on a weekly basis. We ask invoice to be raised in advanced so the account manager can validate and approve it with finance. We transfer to whatever currency or PayPal account you need
  • For ongoing work or long-term projects, we ask folks to track their time and workload using Teamwork (our project management tool similar to asana, trello, Basecamp).
  • We always have an account/project manager for each project. They are there to make sure everything works smoothly, clear obstacles, obtain extra resources when needed and keep the client happy and informed.
  • Our onboarding process is quite robust and we make sure you know how we work and what’s happening from the day 1
  • We provide regular feedback (weekly or monthly) and measure progression against areas of improvement

    How we work with clients

We like clarity and quantifiable objectives, even with PR and outreach.

We usually agree with the client on a number of mentions or links per quarter
We break that down per month and allow a degree of flexibility on a monthly basis.
For PR/Link projects, we like to start small, safe projects likely to yield a modest number of mentions but more like to hit our targets.
We thrive to have initial projects done with as little oversight/work from the client.
These elements help us win our client trust that we can do the work. From there we expand into more interesting ambitious projects.

We need a QA Engineer with test automation skills

We truly believe that hiring the best people and giving them the tools they need is the biggest key to success.  We're currently building a small development team and looking for friendly, talented folks to join the team.  We're well-funded and (we think) fun to work with.
A key part of moving fast is making sure our product meets a high quality bar. (People get very nervous if the company to which they're entrusting their financial future can't make their own website work right.)

We need a QA engineer who's comfortable at every part of the job: manual UI testing, black/white box acceptance testing, exploratory testing, test automation, and continuous integration. We've made a big investment in test automation, but we need to take that - and our quality bar in general - to the next level. Another way to put it: you need to be able to read and write code as well as you can write and execute test plans.

If you have a background in insurance that is a definite plus!

If you're interested, reach out!

At Form.io, we build the world’s best combined form and API platform anywhere. But we’re even prouder of the fact that we’re a platform that serves developers, and we’re helping them build their own complex business process applications that require extensive forms and APIs to support them. No other platform provides developers the tools that we provide them.

We are growing rapidly, and have more work and opportunities than we have people to accomplish them. That’s where you come in!

If you’re the one we’re looking for, you have extensive experience with Javascript on *both* the front end and the back end. You’re excited about all the new technologies coming down the pike like typescript, angular 5, vue, ES2018 and are a super quick study. This isn’t your first rodeo. You’ve got 5 or more years of experience, and can point to multiple apps or sites you have helped ship.

That’s a really quick intro of what we are looking for but first you need to know what it is like working for us.

A little about us

We’re an early-stage company that provides our customers a powerful and unique combined Form and API platform designed specifically for developers! We have something that no-one else has, and we’ve achieved significant traction in the market and adoption byenterprises all over the world, ranging from startups, SMBs, to large enterprises, who operate in a wide range of business verticals including healthcare, education, government agencies, insurance, banking and financial services, legal, online retail, industrial, compliance, agricultural, software agencies, and many others. We are fully funded, have been cash flow positive for a while, and are rapidly growing our MRR revenue without needing to search for new investment capital.

We love building tools that make data collection and management easier for developers building web apps. As part of that we’ve developed tons of front end and back end components and tools in many frameworks and technologies.

Who you’d be working with

Our team is is small, tightly knit, and highly collaborative group of contributors. We are headquartered in Dallas, TX, but we have several remote developers as well, and we work very well over remote by utilizing conference and chatroom tools.

Travis - the founding father and CTO of Form.io leads the team with technology insight and vision, combined with the powerful ability to roll up his sleeves and dive deep into the code with any issue. Travis is known within the company, and by our customers, for solving insanely complex problems over a weekend that would take a normal developer a month. Travis has a strong presence and following in the developer community, and much of his work can be found on Github and YouTube. Travis spends his free time with his wife and kids.

Randall - our Lead Architect and sometimes described as “The most interesting developer in the world” due to his extensive worldwide traveling, and his tendency to tell crazy stories. . When not doing home improvement work on his house, or going to his daughters’ ballet classes, he’s resolving conflicting bug fixes and designing our next generation platform. If you have a problem, Randall can solve it, just don't get him started telling a story or you'll never get away.

And the rest of our extremely talented team including Gary Denise , Angel, Jeriah, Robert, Edwin, Rakesh, Yury and Alena.

How you’ll work at Form.io

We’re a group of dedicated and talented people - the kind you’d be excited to work with. Here’s what that looks like.

Live where you want - We’re mostly located in the Dallas area but we do have very productive members of our team elsewhere. We all work from home a portion of the time, so we’re very good at using tools that enable remote work. Due to market demands and activities, and time zone overlaps we're currently looking specifically for new team members in the US and also in Australia, (but of course we’re also open to attracting exceptional talent from other regions too!)

No crazy hours - We’re a startup but we realize that overworking our developers doesn’t make the process faster or better. We’re more interested in you developing great code and solving problems than working crazy hours.

We’re all adults - There’s no need to punch a clock, or ask for permission to take off early one afternoon to go see the doctor. We look at what you’re accomplishing, not how long you sit in front of a computer.

World class tools - We want you firing on all cylinders so we’ll set you up with a shiny new computer (probably a mac) and replace it every three years.

Solve important problems - We’re constantly doing hard things that are fun and helping companies work. We spend a lot of time designing new systems and solutioning problems for our customers.

Learn new things - We’re built on latest generation technology and are always on the lookout for what’s new. Be prepared to constantly be learning promising new technologies and figuring out how they can make our company better.

Testing is not a dirty word - We believe in automated testing. Bug fixes as well as new features should come with automated tests to ensure they work and make sure they don’t break in the future.

Now, back to you, our new Javascript Developer…

You’re a javascript developer with over 5 years of experience. You’ve done work with both the frontend (angular, react, vue, etc) and the backend (nodejs). You understand what makes javascript javascript with concepts like asynchronous functions, promises, scoping and prototypical inheritance. You also stay on top of the latest ES6 features like classes, arrow functions, destructuring and typescript. You know how to write east-to-maintain code, documentation while getting things done under pressure.

You’ll help us continue building out our platform, client apps and develop new functionality. There are always a ton of new client requests coming in as well as helping them set up their projects and learn how to build with our tools. In addition, there are the new features and functionality. We have a roadmap full of exciting new features such as form workflow, payment gateways, 3rd party platform integrations, and new framework support.

You’re the one we’re looking for if you:

  • Are an excellent developer who doesn’t write only so that the computer can understand your code, but also so other developers can understand it too.
  • Are a fast learner of new technologies and keep on top of new trends.
  • Are a top notch debugger. You can find problems quickly and understand how to fix them without breaking other functionality.
  • Are self motivated and take responsibility for fixing problems like:
    • “The form is too slow if you configure it like …”
    • "Add paypal integration to this app”
    • "We need to allow international versions of the phone field”
  • Are excited to work across multiple frameworks with different technologies.
  • Have experience with
    • React/Vue/Angular/AngularJS
    • Nodejs/Express
    • Mongodb
    • Docker
    • ES2015/Typescript
  • Have shipped or helped ship at least one app in one of the above frameworks.
  • Are a senior developer who can point to strong experience where you’ve exemplified the bullet points above.
  • Bonus - You already use form.io!

Form.io is an equal opportunity employer. All are encouraged to apply as we continue to build and expand a smart, hard-working team that loves working together to build something exciting and relevant.

If you know Python, Perl, or Tcl you've probably heard of ActiveState's language distros. Now we’re building an ambitious language distribution platform so that no engineer ever has to suffer dependency hell again, and we need your help to do it!

This position is open to full-time telecommuters anywhere in North America. You can also choose to work from our headquarters in beautiful Vancouver, BC.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

As a Senior Developer on the Languages Team, you will be helping us build a highly scalable, 100% automated build system for multiple languages across multiple platforms. We’re also creating microservice APIs for other teams to code against as we build our big new thing.

Our day to day work practices are centered around GitHub, pull requests, code review, CI for testing, and agile development with Pivotal Tracker as our project management tool. We’re always looking to improve our practices and we expect you to help us to do so.

We’re a polyglot company building our system using Golang, Docker, Kubernetes, DCOS, CircleCI, and other modern tools. Quality is as important as speed. We’re building for the long run, so you’ll need to enjoy writing tests and documentation too.

Our team is scattered around the US and Canada, so we coordinate with each other and the rest of the company using Slack for chat, Highfive for video calls and screen sharing, Pivotal Tracker, and Google Drive.

We like to use open source software whenever possible, and we also like to contribute back to the open source ecosystem. We embrace open sourcing both libraries and tools developed in-house as long as those are not mission-critical code.

WORKING AT ACTIVESTATE

ActiveState has a collaborative, respectful, and professional culture. We make the world's most powerful ergonomic keyboard, the ErgoDox EZ. You will be helping us vastly improve our configurator, a Rails 5/React 16 app.
You will be introducing sane state management, re-architecting the data models, upping test coverage, as well as introducing some great new features once all of this tech debt has been dealt with. You're not a rockstar, nor a ninja. Hopefully you're simply a nice human being who wants to make solid software together.

We're a tiny company. You'd be working with me (Erez Zukerman, the CEO, who's also a Rails/React dev). We'd be using simple, low-ceremony tools like Trello, daily standups, and some lightweight scrum (nothing crazy).

As part of the job, you will of course be getting one of our keyboards, fully specced out to your liking. Actually, bonus points if you already happen to have one. ;)

So the laundry list:

  • A mastery of React
  • Great frontend skills (CSSNext FTW)
  • Jest is our testing framework of choice
  • Bonus points if you know some Capybara
  • A liking of MobX (I do prefer it over Redux and have experience in both)
  • A liking of Rails (you don't have to be a Rails rockstar though)
  • Pay: $60k/yr initially, then we can ramp up based on performance and reach $90-100k.

I've been working remotely for 17 years now, so I get the culture. This is not about the hours -- it's about producing some great work together and making a sizable dent in the universe of mechanical keyboards.

How do you apply?

Don't send me a boring CV, please. Send me a great email answering the following:

  • What are the first three features you'd add to the configurator, and why
  • Why do you prefer mobX over Redux (or, why am I wrong to prefer it)
  • What is the thing you like least about agile?
  • Some examples of your work

Not all emails will get a reply -- my apologies in advance for that. On the plus side, I (Erez) will personally be reading your email, not some recruiter or an AI bot trying to filter you out. :)

We value diversity — in backgrounds and in experiences. Healthcare is a universal concern, and we need people from all backgrounds to help build the future of healthcare. Our data science team is deliberate and self-reflective about the kind of data team and culture that we are building, seeking data scientists and engineers that are not only strong in their own aptitudes but care deeply about supporting each other's growth. We have one of the richest healthcare datasets in the world, and our team brings a diverse set of technical and cultural backgrounds.

Doximity’s social network has over 70% of US doctors as members and 40M connections among them. We currently are looking for a data scientist to lead a team of other data scientists, data engineers and data analysts with the goal of utilizing this medical graph to better connect and promote discussion among our clinician members.

How you’ll make an impact:

-Build link prediction models to recommend colleagues for our members to connect and engage with (the “people you may know” problem) to increase user engagement across Doximity’s platforms.
-Leverage data from Doximity’s social graph to improve the user personalization models that recommend medical and social content to our clinician members.
-Discover trends and new business opportunities from physician’s medical claims and referral networks.
-Provide technical leadership to other data scientists and data engineers working on our growth and colleaguing product teams.

What we’re looking for:

-4+ years of industry experience and M.S./Ph.D. in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, or other relevant technical field.
-4+ years experience with various machine learning methods (classification, clustering, natural language processing, ensemble methods) and parameters that affect their performance.
-Experience applying graph theory, analytics, and processing to industry problems.
-Solid engineering skills to build scalable solutions and help automate data processing challenges.
-Desire to provide technical leadership and mentorship to other data team members.
-Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to connect data science work to product impacts.
-Fluent in SQL and Python; experience using Apache Spark (pyspark)
-Experience working with relational and non-relational databases.

Nice to have:

-Experience with neo4j and either Spark GraphX or GraphFrames for performing graph analytics
