At Petal, we’re bringing together exceptional talent from across disciplines and industries to shape the future of financial services and improve the lives of our customers in a meaningful way.

We're looking for a talented engineer to join the team and continue making the vision reality.

Things You'll Do

  • Improve our origination platform, payments platform, and lending operations while fighting fraud along the way.
  • Build frameworks and products which will be used by other engineering teams at Petal.
  • Create data pipelines to integrate data from many sources (including our production database, production logs, partners, marketing channels, and data warehouse).
  • Write and optimize ETL jobs and pipelines core to the functionality and financial health of the business including: Marketing Funnel Optimization Analysis, Underwriting Model Training, Debt Funds Management / Optimization, Risk / Portfolio Analysis, and many others.
  • Write tests and constantly seek to improve code quality and reliability.
  • Design and implement products that help make data available to other members of the team including Risk / Analytics, Data Science / Model Development, Marketing, Business Operations, and Product.

    Experience and Qualifications

  • Proficiency in a common language (preferably Python).
  • You demand high-quality code of yourself and others.
  • You love trying new tools, technologies, and frameworks, but are pragmatic—you get stuff done with what solves the problem you’re facing.
  • You love shipping new things rapidly, and iterating based on real user behavior. You have a knack for finding and eliminating inefficiency in your users’ workflows.
  • You’re enthusiastic about unit testing and performance, and knowing how to communicate the value of technical excellence to non-technical teammates.
  • You’re a great listener, but are willing to speak up when you see something that needs to be fixed. You ask questions when something isn’t clear.

    Nice-to-Haves

  • Experience shipping production grade code.
  • Love of immutable state.
  • Love of idempotent operations.

    Technologies We Use

  • Airflow

  • Redis
  • Redshift

    Our Mission

At Petal, we’re using fresh thinking and cutting-edge technology to make credit honest, simple and accessible. We use machine learning to analyze more data in our credit decisions, which means more people qualify, even if they’ve never had credit before. And we use behavioral science and smart, intuitive design to offer a simple, customer-centric product that’s engineered to achieve better financial outcomes, with straightforward terms and no fees whatsoever. The result is an exciting new approach to credit that has the potential to radically expand credit access and improve the lives of millions of consumers, shaking up a trillion dollar industry in the process.

Petal is an equal opportunity employer, and we are committed to building a team culture that celebrates diversity and inclusion. We’re proud to be different, together.

About Us:

Kindly Care helps families find, hire, and manage private caregivers so that their elderly loved ones can age in their homes rather having to move into assisted living facilities. We take pride in the fact that we’re working on one of the most pressing problems in our society: ensuring that our seniors are taken care of despite seemingly endless challenges caused by fiscal and labor shortages.

We’re a geographically distributed company, with 6 team members working out of our office in San Francisco and about 50 others working from all over the US, Canada, Mexico and a number of other countries. We have built all products and processes to equally accommodate on-site and remote team members, and we highly value this ability to attract the best talent from across the world.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with all 6 Department Directors and plan/build enhancements in our Salesforce app
  • Be in charge of the product and make/defend high-level decisions
  • Keep an eye on the metrics and make data-informed decisions

About This Role:

We are looking for two full-stack engineers to help us build fully featured web experiences, enabling both sides of our caregiver marketplace to connect and communicate. You will be reporting to the CTO, but will be expected to work mostly autonomously.

Our current workflows often involve live call center agents, who assist our clients in all the necessary steps from specifying their needs to hiring their caregivers. With our steadily increasing lead volume, we have had to 10x the size of our call center in a short amount of time, so we’re now looking for ways to productize as many parts of the client journey as possible.

We just closed a Series A in January 2018, and have raised a total of $9.5m to date from some of the Valley’s top investors. To find out more about Kindly Care, check out our (slightly outdated) Techcrunch coverage.

Responsibilities

  • Identify manual workflows that can be replaced with automation or consumer-directed product solutions
  • Leverage our design resources, but ultimately be in charge of the product and make/defend high-level decisions
  • Keep an eye on the metrics and make data-informed decisions
  • Find the right balance between building ambitious products and moving fast

    Qualifications

  • Experience building rich single-page applications with JavaScript, CSS3, and HTML5
  • Experience with React, AngularJS, jQuery (or similar) libraries/frameworks
  • Previous full stack developer experience
  • Expert at building high-performance RESTful APIs
  • Comprehensive experience working with AWS, including EC2, RDS, ELB, VPC, and S3
  • Database administration and performance tuning (ideally PostgreSQL)
  • Prefer candidate with strong background in NodeJS/Express or StrongLoop/LoopBack

Last but not least, you need to have the leadership skills that will help you motivate your teams and energize them to do the best work of their lives.

We've built a microservice architecture that allows us to rapidly scale to accommodate ever-increasing user needs. Your job is to build new services that enhance the customer experience or our internal tooling while maintaining our standards of performance and robustness.

You'll collaborate closely with our CEO, CTO, DevOps, and Front End engineers to build across our tech stack and deliver best-in-class insurance technology.

As with all of our engineers, you will test, QA, deploy, and maintain your own code within our continuous integration framework. That means pushing a change to production on your first day, and continuing to improve our services from then on. As you learn, you'll be able to keep the team informed on emerging best practices, and champion ideas you believe in.

We pay competitive salaries. We're serious about remote work and flexible hours. Equity and benefits included. All negotiable.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Experience building and maintaining distributed systems
  • Fundamentals in data structures, algorithm design, problem solving, and complexity analysis
  • Demonstrated debugging and troubleshooting skills
  • Advanced knowledge of C++ or Java
  • Experience with Git or another distributed version control system

    IDEAL CANDIDATE

  • 5+ years of engineering experience
  • Excited to work in a rigorous CI environment that favors robust, performant code vs. quick hacks
  • Contributions to open source projects
  • Advanced knowledge of JavaScript
  • Proficient with Git/Github and Jenkins
  • Deeply motivated to build things that make a real difference to everyday lives

    Working at Hugo

Whether you're an engineer, a designer, or an adjuster, every position at Hugo requires three things: estimating how much work a given task will take, when you will be finished with it, and what it means for our members. These three things let us work flexibly because we are consistently improving our forecasting ability and staying motivated to deliver for our members.

What does that mean for the day-to-day? It means a single team check-in at 9AM PT where you discuss your tasks for the day and any help you will need. Then, you're free to complete that task at your own pace and on your own schedule. We do a weekly retrospective to assess team performance, and a bi-weekly sprint planner.

Every team seeks to get something out into the wild every day - whether it's a paper prototype or a full deployment to production.

We take your personal development seriously - the better you are, the better we can deliver for our members and community. As part of your onboarding, we'll discuss your development goals and how we can contribute. That includes everything from blog posts to conferences and sponsored meet-ups.

Hugo is an EEO employer that actively pursues and hires a diverse workforce, and will consider for employment qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records. Our salaries, perks, and benefits are all negotiable. We don’t judge people based on schools or degrees.

    Our application process

Our goal is to take as little of your time as possible - and be transparent throughout.

Every candidate answers 3 relevant entry-level questions. Technical and design hires submit 2 portfolio pieces. Please do not send a resume or "about me".

If things work out, we will invite you to a 30 minute call where we will discuss your prior experience and future goals, and roles you've enjoyed or found frustrating.

If that call goes well, we will invite you to a 30 minute call to discuss your area of expertise and work habits.

From there, you will be provided an area-specific problem to solve in your own time (with as much or as little support from us as desired), followed by a two-on-one review and debrief call. We then check references and prepare to make an offer!

  • You’ll get system access on your first day, as we know you are a smart and responsible engineer.
  • You’ll take ownership over your projects from day one (from concept to implementation; testing, deployment and monitoring).
  • Your challenging tasks will keep improving your skills and keep you up-to-date with the latest technologies.
  • We have a wide range of diverse challenges, in particular in the GIS domain.
  • We believe good ideas count more than hierarchies.

  • We believe good ideas count more than hierarchies.
  • You’ll work together with enthusiastic engineers, hikers and cyclists.
  • We let you work from wherever you want, be it a beach, the mountains, our headquarters in Potsdam or anywhere that lies between the time zones UTC-1 and UTC+3

    ----

Millions of people experience real-life adventures with our apps. We help users all over the world discover the best hiking and biking routes, working to empower everybody to explore more of the great outdoors. And we’re good at what we do: Google and Apple have listed us as one of their Apps of the Year numerous times—and we are consistently ranked amongst the highest-grossing apps in both Google Play and the App Store.

One key driving factor to our growth has always been our understanding that a technological approach can provide an outdoor experience far beyond the possibilities of traditional services. On the one side, we collect, combine and process various open data sources (such as OSM and Wikipedia) and turn raw data into easily accessible information and understandable products, such as our easy-to-use outdoor route planner. On the other, we leverage the wisdom of our vast user base and use crowdsourced data for personalized, local outdoor recommendations. Now, with your strong analytical skills and your passion for building well-crafted and tested code, we’ll leave traditional, standard solutions even further behind—and we’ll truly change the way people explore.

Your key responsibilities

  • Implement new features closely together with our web and mobile developers, designers, copywriters and product managers.
  • Develop and tune algorithms to leverage our content recommendation, rankings, content analyses and product smartness.
  • Build new and improve existing micro-services, primarily in Java/Kotlin and Python.
  • Use the AWS ecosystem to build resilient and high-performing systems.

    Why you will love it

  • You’ll work on a global product that inspires millions of users.
  • You’ll work together with enthusiastic engineers, hikers and cyclists.
  • You’ll travel together with our team to amazing outdoor places several times a year to exchange ideas, learnings and go for hikes and rides.
  • We let you work from wherever you want, be it a beach, the mountains, our headquarters in Potsdam or anywhere else that lies between the time zones UTC-1 and UTC+3.

You will be successful in this position if you

  • Are highly self-driven, responsible and keen to learn and improve.
  • Know your toolkit: git, ssh, bash, junit, jenkins and docker.
  • Have deep experience (4+ years) in developing software running under high load
  • Possess professional experience in Java and Python.
  • Have demonstrable knowledge of common algorithms within the machine learning and statistics space.
  • Have strong analytical skills.
  • Love to tune, test, simulate and evaluate solutions to unusual problems.
  • Live and breathe DevOps and believe in automated testing, infrastructure as code, continuous deployment, monitoring and open communication.

    Sound like you?
    Then send us the following:

  • Your CV.
  • A write-up explaining who you are and why you are interested in working at komoot.
  • Examples of your work (e.g. GitHub, PDFs, Slideshare, etc.).
  • Something that shows us a little more about what you’re interested in, be it your Twitter/Instagram account or your blog.
  • As we love people that go the extra mile, you’ll get bonus points for doing something creative with komoot.

How do you apply?

Please apply through our website with a CV and cover letter.

Software Craftsman / Craftswoman

YOU ARE ...a smart security practitioner with experience building and auditing security features in large scale systems. You understand the importance of testing and documentation, and common pitfalls in developing secure web applications. You must have a passion for the WMF mission. You will be joining a team responsible for ensuring the security and integrity of applications written in PHP, Python, Ruby, Lua, Perl, JavaScript (Node.js) among others, using both relational and key-value data storage mechanisms. (Don't worry, you don't need to have had experience with all of those technologies.)

As an Application Security Engineer, we’d like you to do these things:

  • Triage and remediate reported security issues

  • Work with Security team members to build and maintain security features

  • Review and deploy features developed by the Foundation and community members

  • Work with other development teams to ensure that they make safe architectural and implementation choices

  • Constantly poke and abuse our software to find bugs before attackers do

We’d like you to have these skills:

The right person is better than the right set of experiences, these are the traits we’ve identified make great additions to our team so far.

  • Two or more years of application security experience, including thorough understanding of issues documented in the OWASP Top Ten and CWE Top 25

  • Strong understanding of modern, object-oriented PHP development

  • Demonstrated ability to exploit and mitigate application-level vulnerabilities

  • Experience conducting software security reviews using a combination of source code inspection, manual testing, and automated scanning

  • Patience in explaining security issues and their implications on privacy to non-technical audiences

  • Sensitivity to the security challenges faced by participants in a large, international project

  • Strong understanding of cryptography as applied to web application security (encryption, hashing, PKI management), including analysis and implementation

  • Strong knowledge of the use of a scripting language for system administration and automation

  • Experience using Linux/Unix at the command line for tasks related to web application development and deployment ("DevOps")

  • Ability to maintain focus when working remotely

And it would be even more awesome if you have this:

In addition to the basic skills needed for being successful these skills could set you apart from the pack!

  • Experience as a contributor in the Wikipedia or Wikimedia project communities

  • Experience contributing to a consensus-based open source project

  • Experience developing, maintaining, or administering authentication systems

  • In-depth experience developing or auditing client-side JavaScript

  • Experience with both relational and NoSQL/key-value data storage mechanisms

About us

Estately makes it easier to find and buy a home online and we need your help.

What you'll do:

You'll collaborate to build, maintain and streamline our large application, working with Ruby, Rails, Postgres and more. Some examples of the work you'll be doing include the following:

  • Continually improving our fetching code, which grabs information about millions of properties throughout each day
  • Integrating against a new REST api to give our customers even more info about a house
  • Making our mobile website a more pleasant experience
  • Rewriting a SQL query to be 100x faster

You'll have both the opportunity and the independence to tackle all kinds of challenges: some days you'll work on refactoring a legacy part of the app to make it do something new, and on others, you'll build a brand new, greenfield feature.

    About You:

You care about both building and maintaining a clean, readable, well tested codebase. We're looking for someone with Ruby experience. We mostly work with Ruby, Rails, Postgres, React, and SCSS. We don't require you to know all of these, but you should be experienced in Ruby, comfortable with Rails, and eager to learn new technologies. You communicate well and collaborate with the whole team, be it to work through tough code problems or clarify product specifications.

    About Us

  • We're a small team focused on opening up the old school real estate world.
  • Our goal is to build the best place for people to browse, shop for, and buy homes.
  • We employ an iterative approach to building products and deploy multiple times a day.
  • We have a big vision.
  • We believe in hiring smart people and giving them the support and flexibility to succeed.
  • If you work locally, you'll be in a relaxed and fun office in the Belltown neighborhood.

We're looking to hire the best people wherever they are in the world. If you don't want to relocate to beautiful Seattle, you should be awesome at working from home and available to join our daily standup at 10am Pacific. Some developers live in Seattle and come into the Estately office, but the majority live and work remotely, including several who live outside of the United States. We've had remote developers since 2011, and are seasoned veterans of working with a distributed team, across multiple time zones.

    Our Hiring Process

We believe in collaborative interviews where we work with you to solve realistic problems. We interview for practical skills in a one-on-one setting, and strive to use your preferred editor and tools whenever possible. Great candidates don't usually write code on white boards, or implement basic data structures from scratch, so we won't ask you to do that. We want our recruiting process to be transparent to you. It roughly consists of the following steps:

  • An initial call between you and a member of our team: We'll tell you more about the work that you'd be doing, and why we think Estately is a great place to work. You'll have the opportunity to ask us lots of questions, too. We'll ask you about your experience and some technical questions, mostly to get a feel for where you're at as we move forward with the process.

  • Individual Exercise: We have a few practical challenges to assess technical knowledge. Over the course of a few hours, you'll be fixing a bug in our app (that we've previously fixed), so we can see how you approach solving a realistic problem.

  • Pairing on a Few Potential Features: During the pairing exercises you'll pair with one of our developers to implement an (existing) feature in the app. This will take a couple hours or so, and will mostly consist of discussion about approach, with some coding in the midst of it.

  • Discussion with representatives from our Product and Design teams: As a small team, all of our developers work very closely with product and design. These short sessions will give you a chance to meet and speak with the product and design folks that you would be working with on a regular basis.

    Diversity

Estately seeks to increase the ratio of women and underrepresented minorities in software engineering and development, we encourage women and people from underrepresented groups to apply for this position.

Estately is striving to be a diverse team, made of and built by people with different backgrounds and lifestyles. We don't discriminate based on race, gender, sexual orientation, marital status, disability, age, religion, color, or any other group.

ABOUT US

We cherish empowerment of our collaborators, so as a company we provide a working environment that allows each and everyone to contribute in their best way.

Our purpose: we want to simplify DevOps and Cloud adoption, empower people (dev, ops, project manager, CTO) to focus on what matters.

Our goal is to simplify the work of people who have some unbelievable challenges ahead.

Cycloid team works on three connected activities:

  • we develop cycloid.io: a DevOps platform which integrates a service catalogue, a continuous integration, continuous delivery container pipeline, logs centralisation and tracking price.
  • we provide services on AWS as your DevOps team: Design / Audit / Build / Migrate / Managed Services / DevOps As A Service
  • we co-develop Cloud-ready application on GO / Vuejs with our customers.

We are splitting the work between people who have the same skills because to break the monotony, share the knowledge and avoid that we get bored when we have to work on non-fancy things.

We develop and test our code, we don’t have people dedicated to writing tests, we believe that the same people who implement features, fix bugs, etc, must implement the tests. We do code reviews, we don’t merge into mainstream any substantial code without being reviewed and approved.

For all the above reasons we are a teal organization. What does it mean?

Everyone at Cycloid meets once every quarter at our headquarter in France to define collectively the strategy/road map/features for the coming quarter. Then, everyone defines their own agenda and priorities that to achieve his own goal.

We are fully transparent on revenues, salaries and believe that everybody should have the same variable plan.

We have signed millions since our creation in April 2015, we are 100% self-funded and have neither external investors nor bank credits.

We take the time that we need to build useful products and provide great services.

    SKILLS

You are a passionate software engineer, which is the most important, with several years of experience crafting software, would be better, and with:

  • at least one year of experience in web frontend development and with a good understanding of the architecture of the web applications, Javascript and DOM API. Our current development is with VueJS, but we believe that if you understand the web and you have experience developing web applications, you should be able familiar with it without any problem in a few weeks.
  • broad experience in back-end development and HTTP APIs. Preferably, you have some experience with Go or it doesn't look weird to you, knowledge of distributed systems and simplicity and familiar with the UNIX philosophy.

We are splitting the work 50% Frontend 50% Backend to break the monotony.

But what is really important is that we are looking for more than just a developer.

We are looking for a person who can build with us new features, can bring some new ideas on what could be a great DevOps dashboard/pipeline to simplify the work of users. If you don't have any ideas, it will be a challenge because we don't have a product manager and we are trying to work without it due to our culture. We want to empower people.

You are, of course, a team player and know how to work in remote even if you can work at Cycloid office in Paris if you are in Paris. You can decide to work on remote wherever you are located but all the organization is in an asynchronous manner, keeping a good team culture through Slack and conference meetings.

You have adequate written and oral communication skills in English, any others languages would be a plus.

Cycloid is committed to having equality between women and men. In that way, we strongly encourage women's application.

What do we expect that you send to us?

Your CV or a LinkedIn profile or a personal website where we can know more about your professional experience. If you have relevant public open source contributions, then you have a huge plus; your contributions to open source projects, created by you or by others, are very important for us, however because you may have quite a few contributions, send us a selection of them, linking the repositories of the projects, the relevant issues and pull/merge requests that you have contributed implementing, reporting, commenting and/or reviewing.

The Opportunity

At Manifold, we’re an ambitious and well-funded startup, making it compelling for developers like you to break your deployments free from the closed ecosystems of cloud providers. We connect applications, wherever they are hosted, to independent cloud services made by developers who care.

We are looking for an experienced, collaborative front-end engineer to inspire us, teach us, and bring our React architecture and coding forward.

Our partially distributed engineering team is fun-loving, knowledgeable, and extremely productive. We’re organized to let you explore and grow a variety of skills and capabilities, with many opportunities to make a significant impact. Many of us have strong ties to the open-source world, and have experience building tools at companies like Heroku, Red Hat, and Canonical.

We value diversity and supporting a distributed culture. Gender diversity is currently about one quarter. About half of the company work outside of the home Halifax, Canada office, including the product and engineering leaders.

What you'll do

Responsibilities

  • Help lead a friendly, supportive engineering culture that encourages you and the entire company to improve as engineers, teams, and people.
  • Be a model and mentor for building well-architected, performant, well-tested, and understandable code.
  • Prevent and manage technical debt. Help us find the right corners to cut for speed, and the right problems to invest in for maintainability.
  • Be passionate about our mission, and help us imagine Manifold’s future. Work closely with design and product in short design-first iteration.
  • Be curious. Learn, practice, share, and improve our knowledge and best practices in technologies, security, engineering, design and collaboration.

    What you'll need

    Qualifications

  • Strong communication skills with a team centric approach to discussion and decision making. Empathy and respect for others.
  • Experience deploying and operating server-side code that could have used a service like Manifold.
  • Expertise in Javascript, REST APIs, React and managing state. Knowledge of Redux, Redux-Saga, GraphQL, and other parts of the React ecosystem is also very valuable.
  • Full command of Git, GitHub, the terminal, continuous deployment and integration, and other modern fundamentals.
  • Experience working in a distributed team is very nice to have.
  • Our backend and CLI are written in Go; Go experience is nice to have.

    We're looking for

    Core Skills

  • Guidance and mentorship
  • JavaScript
  • Technical Leadership
  • React

    A little bit about us

    Manifold

At Manifold, we help developers discover and use innovative tools and technologies; so you can focus on building, not managing, your applications. Each new cloud service we use today introduces complexity in the form of another bill, account to manage, credential to secure, and code to deploy.

Manifold allows you to build and offer cloud services to developers without having to worry about billing, identity, and credential distribution (An example of one such service: JawsDB).

We're a small, remote-friendly venture-backed company based in Halifax, Canada with teams in Toronto and San Francisco. With a shared passion for making developers lives easier and our backgrounds reflect that, having worked at the likes of Red Hat, Heroku, and Salesforce.

    Are you interested?

    Work With Us

We believe in having people work from where they are most productive. If that happens to be in our offices in Halifax, Canada, or in San Francisco, welcome! We'd love to have you. If you are remote, you are also welcome! We strongly prefer candidates who are in a timezone roughly within 4 hours of the Eastern time zone.

We offer competitive compensation, equity opportunities, and excellent health care options, with additional perks such as a yearly professional development allowance.
