\nWe’re looking for a developer who wants to build software that transforms the way public radio delivers its core asset - audio.\n\nSome of the biggest names in public radio - NPR, KPCC, WNYC, and WHYY - are partnering to build a system that simplifies the workflow and delivery of on-demand and podcast audio. Our goal is to create the platform that many public radio stations use to power their digital audio operations. If you love podcasts and public radio, this is a unique opportunity to have an impact on the future of the industry.\n\nAs an audio-focused Applications Developer on this project, you'll be responsible for building the core systems and services around on-demand audio upload, management and delivery. You will work as a part of KPCC's small, dedicated product team. Our mission is to build durable platforms for publishing journalism, give audiences new ways to interact with audio (both streaming and podcasting), and help public radio build new digital revenue models.\n\nWe do a lot of cool stuff with audio tech, and you’ll take ownership of the audio management parts of our codebase. Most of our software is built on Rails, Node.js, and the Elastic stack.\n\nHow we work\n\nAt KPCC, developers work alongside designers and product managers as part of a unified team, and there's shared ownership over the direction of our products . We are strong believers in tests and continuous integration. All of our code is hosted on Github, and your work on this project will be open sourced for the benefit of the public radio and podcast ecosystem.\n\nWe use Slack to stay connected to each other, our code and our systems. We build iteratively and ship often, but also strongly value software quality. We’re a hardworking team who sets ambitious goals.\n\nWhy KPCC\n\nKPCC is trying to redefine how public service journalism can serve a diverse metropolis. KPCC is part of Southern California Public Radio, a member-supported public media organization. We reach more than 700,000 listeners every week, and over 1 million people with our digital products. We've partnered with NPR, WNYC and WHYY on a two-year project to apply our collective knowledge around digital audio to build tools that will benefit the entire public radio system.\n\nYou’ll come in every day and work on meaningful challenges and interesting apps with a crew of smart, friendly, creative people. You’ll get to work in a small, fast-moving team that has a big impact on the future of public radio. You can come to work at the Mohn Broadcast Center, our beautiful office in the heart of sunny Pasadena, but we're also remote-friendly. We offer competitive benefits and salary, a true life/work balance, and support a diverse and inclusive work environment.
