Our technology is already installed in hundreds of hotels worldwide, on six continents and categorises more than 1 billion data points.\n\nWe are a growing team of exceptional people split across engineering, product and commercial that have built a fantastic, remote-but-far-from-distant community.\n\nWhere is Impala going?\n\nWe’re supported by some of the best investors in the business, the early stage backers behind Deliveroo, PillPack, SecretEscapes, Zoopla, Trivago and more. They’re on board because of our vision - revolutionizing a $1.6 trillion dollar market that’s been out-of-date for 20 years.\n\nWithin the next two years, 25% of hotel bookings worldwide will flow through Impala technology and the product that we’re building will empower the entire ecosystem of travel technology (we already have over a thousand companies signed up).\n\nAnyone travelling anywhere will interact with products powered by Impala and to achieve this we’re growing the team to 50 people within the next year. So now is the most exciting time to be joining Impala as we go through a large push to scale up!\n\nA brief overview of what you’ll be up to in this role:\n\nAs chief architect, you will act as the technical authority in a top-tier engineering team, ensuring that our technology can meet both immediate and future needs. You will report to (and work alongside) our VP of Engineering. \n\nTechnology sits at the heart of our business, which makes this a pivotal role with key responsibilities: \n\n\n* You will lead on technology strategy & prioritization, managing short term technical risks and long term investment in our stack\n\n* You will be accountable for technical quality at Impala, including the reliability, security, and extensibility of our services and data \n\n* You will ensure that monitoring, metrics and SRE practices are in place across all teams and services, to measure and meet high service SLA’s / expectations \n\n* You will be the direct leader of an enablement group, which provides specialist  technical/DevOps/SecOps support to our development teams\n\n* You will provide technical direction and mentorship across teams to support the development of individuals \n\n\n\n\nYou should join us if: \n\n\n* You have 10+ years of relevant and diverse product and engineering experience, with a period of executive-level responsibility at an organization with a strong engineering culture\n\n* You are an expert in the architectural design, development, and operation of large scale, high availability services \n\n* You have demonstrated experience with modern web services, distributed service-oriented architectures and services that handle large quantities of data, across multiple different stacks. \n\n* You aren’t afraid to get hands-on when necessary to demonstrate an approach / principle \n\n* You are comfortable leading and mentoring teams and individuals\n\n\n\n\nWhere in the world will you be working?\n\nThis is a remote position. This means you can work from anywhere +/- 2 Hours of London, timezone wise (and less than a 3 hour flight).We are a remote-first company, our whole engineering team is fully distributed! This was a very deliberate choice to prioritise work-life balance and ensure we’re able to accommodate the best people in Europe. So now is the most exciting time to be joining Impala as we go through a large push to scale up!\n\nA brief overview of what you will be doing here:\n\n\n* Be the technical authority and core contributor for our data pipelines & services, including significant greenfield projects.\n\n* Ensure the quality and integrity of data served through our API.\n\n* Ideate, develop and iterate new features with other teams, enabling our technology partners to add value to hotels and travellers.\n\n* Lead and mentor data engineers, instilling best practice and supporting on career growth.\n\n* Work directly with stakeholders, part and parcel of working in an autonomous, metric-driven development team.\n\n\n\n\nYou should join us if: \n\n\n* You have experience designing, planning and leading the development of data pipelines to meet business needs.\n\n* You have experience managing data services that handle the transfer and storage of large quantities of data, adhering to strict SLA’s.\n\n* You know how to build and manage data models and large datasets, ensuring data integrity/quality.\n\n* You have strong experience with more than one data pipeline toolset & language, able to select the right tool for the job\n\n* You feel comfortable working closely with product owners, designers, and other stakeholders\n\n* You are extremely collaborative, Impala’s engineering team is not political, everyone has great ideas and should be open to input. \nImpala is looking to hire a Node/Javascript engineer on a permanent full time basis to help us build the technology that powers smart hotels. You'll be joining a small but extremely ambitious team, that has achieved our first year sales targets two months after demonstrating our beta.\n\nYou'll be working directly on building new functionality into the product as well as working on existing features. We've had more interest than we ever anticipated we're hiring early to maintain and expand the quality of Impala.\n\nA Node/Javascript Engineer at Impala:\n\n\n* Takes ownership of features.\n\n* Wants to create great APIs for other developers to work with.\n\n* Spends time working on tooling to fix our common problems. In the past this has involved building chrome extensions and open source libraries.\n\n* Has a direct input in the formulation of functionality.\n\n\n\n\nWe are accepting fully remote applicants as well as London based (or relocatable) applicants.\n\nRemote employees are required to come to London on a monthly basis.
