\nHelp us build UrbanFootprint!\n\nGeospatial data is at the core of UrbanFootprint. We enable urban planners to model the impact of land use decisions by providing relevant data “out of the box” that typically takes days, weeks, or months to gather. In many cases this level of data insight us simply out of reach for most planning professionals and projects.\n\nWe are looking for an experienced data engineer to advance the data pipeline and analytics which power UrbanFootprint. You should have specific expertise with data pipelines, ETL processes, performance optimization, and all of the tooling that is required along the way. You’ll be an integral part of our growing team, bridging the gap between our Platform and Analysis teams. The ideal candidate will also have some data science and statistical experience.\n\nYou will:\n\n\n* Be a critical member of a well-funded and fast-moving team.\n\n* Design and develop the next generation of our data pipeline for ingesting geospatial datasets. This will likely involve leading the evaluation of existing solutions and assessing the pros/cons of each.\n\n* Identify bottlenecks and recommend software and hardware solutions to solve issues.\n\n* Track key performance metrics over time to ensure we are constantly improving.\n\n* Create systems to validate input and ensure data consistency. Detect, debug, and fix data quality issues. Write tests to assert data quality. \n\n* Work with data scientists and software engineers to provide fast access to the data they need.\n\n\n\n\nSkills and Requirements:\n\n\n* Proficiency with Python, SQL, and other programming languages commonly used as glue in data pipelines.\n\n* Experience with distributed data processing and storage systems.\n\n* Experience building solutions on AWS, including understanding when to use a hosted solution vs. managing our own.\n\n* Ability to assess and recommend performance improvements via parallelism, reevaluating existing algorithms/processes, evaluate tradeoffs of compute vs. storage, etc.\n\n\n\n\nBonus Qualifications:\n\n\n* Experience working with geospatial data, particularly using open source tools such as PostGIS, OpenStreetMap, and Geopandas.\n\n* DevOps experience.\n\n* Working knowledge of common GIS platforms.\n\n* Focus and interest on cities and sustainability.\n\n\n

\nHelp us build UrbanFootprint!\n\nWe believe that a beautiful, engaging experience will allow for smarter, more sustainable cities in the future. UrbanFootprint combines challenges of 2D and 3D map interaction, data visualization, and comparative analytics. Our users have a wide range of technical abilities, from small city planners with minimal geospatial experience to data-hungry power users at large architecture and engineering firms. Other geospatial products are feature rich and often hard to use, but ours is tailored to the planning process.\n\nThe UF app is a single-page, data-rich, map-centric interface. The frontend is built with React, Redux, and MapboxGL, talking to a Python-based API server. We're looking for developers with experience using modern JS libraries to streamline our development in the browser (e.g. React/Redux, lodash, D3, etc) as well as our team workflow (e.g. Webpack, SASS, etc).\n\nWe are funded by top-tier VC, have existing product/services revenue, and are making our first major moves into the market. We are seeking intelligent, hard-working, mission-driven team members to join us in building and scaling UrbanFootprint to serve users across the US and the world.\n\nCheck out more information at https://urbanfootprint.io/\n\nYou will:\n\n\n* Be a critical member of a well-funded and fast-moving team.\n\n* Use React+Redux to build a cutting edge geospatial single page application.\n\n* Design and implement mission critical greenfield features.\n\n* Provide architectural guidance for the team and establish solid, reusable patterns.\n\n* Work with a designer and product manager to scope features.\n\n* Define and consume internal and public APIs.\n\n* Confidently deploy your own code to production on a regular basis.\n\n\n\n\nSkills and Requirements:\n\n\n* 4+ years of on-the-job JavaScript experience. Additional dynamic language experience (Python, Ruby, etc) is a plus.\n\n* Command of CSS (and preprocessors) for creating beautiful and maintainable sites.\n\n* Specific job experience with modern front end frameworks such as React, Ember or Angular, and have an opinion about more than one.\n\n* Familiarity with performance and scaling techniques - from profiling, to knowing when to use (and not use) the DOM.\n\n\n\n\nBonus Qualifications:\n\n\n* Experience with mapping in the browser and/or GIS.\n\n* Additional dynamic programming language experience.\n\n\n
