Your team depends upon your input and guidance.\n \nยท Ensure that you understand the vision, are held accountable, meet commitments, consider choices for high-performance and resilient software, and have strong software engineering discipline (test-driven design, unit test code coverage, automation, staying on top of OSS compliance and vulnerabilities, monitoring focused, secure coding practices, etc.).\n \nยท Mentor other engineers and continue to develop command over all aspects of delivering high-quality software (design, documentation, unit tests, code reviews, security, deployment, monitoring, maintenance, etc.) built on top of microservices architecture (both containerized and serverless) using misc. relational (SQL / MySQL / Postgres etc.) and NoSQL (Elasticsearch / OpenSearch / Document DB / DynamoDB etc.) database technologies.\n \nยท Uphold our standards and maturity levels of running world class security services in cloud by designing more secure, reliable, and scalable cloud managed security services (architecture and infrastructure wise).\n \nยท Maintain an open environment of collaboration, transparency, innovation, and fun for positive teamwork.\n\n\nA Typical โDay in the Life of a Senior Software Engineerโ in WatchGuard:\n\n\nThe Senior Software Engineer is seen at WatchGuard as a motivated, creative, and curious developer with strong engineering discipline who is always willing to learn modern technologies and techniques. The Senior Software Engineer takes ownership of the development process and collaborates with other junior engineers to mentor and guide them. \nCode Switch, the nationโs signature podcast and reporting team on race and identity, seeks a creative, passionate, detail-driven supervising editor who will shape those stories and bring those voices to our rapidly growing podcast and radio audience. Weโre re-imagining our future โ exploring how we can go to new places and tell new stories while preserving the distinctive voice that has made Code Switch a โmust-listenโ for so many people. And weโre committed to staying grounded in the highest levels of journalism.\n\nThe Supervising Editor will serve as a key leader on the team, helping set the editorial agenda and format of the show in collaboration with Executive Producer and other stakeholders. They will empower, motivate, and encourage the production staff to create a best in class podcast and to achieve their editorial and professional goals, creatively removing obstacles along the way.\n\nAs a Supervising Editor, you must have strong editorial judgment and will define areas of coverage, sharpen ideas, push past surface takes, seek opportunities to expand the showโs audio footprint, and be equally focused on the big picture and the minutiae. This role is based out of our Washington, DC office but the employee may choose to work on a remote basis from a location that NPR approves.\n\n\n\n\nREQUIRED SKILLS\n\n\n* Experience in leading and motivating a team, aiding in the professional development of junior staff, maintaining high morale, infusing the values of diversity, equity, inclusion and creativity into every aspect of the editorial process.\n\n* Experience in creating and overseeing successful production flow and systems would be highly desirable.\n\n* Experience in editing and structuring longer-form content, including interviews, scripted and narrative pieces.\n\n* Familiarity with Code Switchโs voices and tone.\n\n* Proven ability to communicate clearly and effectively in challenging situations.\n\n* Demonstrated subject matter expertise on issues and stories on race and identity.\n\n* Minimum of 8 yearsโ broadcast or audio experience, in roles of increasing responsibility.\n\n* Minimum of 5 yearsโ experience editing the work of others.\n\n* At least 3-5 years of experience managing, mentoring staff and managing projects. \n\n* Proven experience working on deadline, while maintaining high journalistic. \n\n* Cultivate and support an inclusive and equitable workplace culture.\n\n\n\n\nPREFERRED SKILLS\n\n\n* Deep understanding of NPR programming across platforms.\n\n* Experience collaborating on large scale projects with other teams and divisions.\n\n\n\n\nJOB TYPE\n\nThis is a temporary (6-month) full time position.\n\nCOMPENSATION\n\nHourly Rate: The U.S. based anticipated hourly rate for this opportunity is $69.18 plus benefits. The hourly rate displayed reflects the minimum and maximum rate NPR expects to provide for new hires for the position across all US locations.\n\nBenefits: NPR offers access to comprehensive benefits for employees and dependents.
