\n\n\nDescription\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPuzzl's (Y Combinator S19) Payroll API enables companies to create a custom end-to-end payroll experience, fully automate their back-office operations, and helps workers get access to their entire paycheck the same-day.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe are looking to hire students that are interested in taking a gap year for the 2020-2021 year. Preference will be given to candidates who are located in the SF Bay Area, although the position can be a remote role.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn our current world:\n\n\n* \n50% of Americans live paycheck-to-paycheck and still have to turn to overdrafts, payday loans, and credit card debt because of a delay in payment.\n\n* \nPowerful companies in the gig-economy will be required to transition their workforce to W2 employee status for compliance reasons, and are lacking the proper tools to create compliant speed-of-payout processes.\n\n* Enterprises have to hire lots of back-office personnel to do menial data-work to process payroll for their workforce.\n\n* This procedure is time-consuming, expensive, and results in a lot of processing errors, especially for industries with a high volume of shifts and workers.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPuzzl's Solution\n\n\n* Stripe-like API that automates payroll processing\n\n* Workers get their entire payroll the same day, for free\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nYou should join Puzzl if\n\n\n* You've previously built web products and can share your portfolio or personal website with us\n\n* You're an expert in: React, NodeJS, AWS\n\n* You want to be on the forefront of shaping the world's payment infrastructure and care about the problems we're trying to solve.\n\n* You think you can beat us in a game of Catan.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin us!\nYou could be the missing piece in our Puzzl.\n\n#Location\nSan Francisco, CA / Remote

\n\n\nWhat is Cortex?\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCortex (https://www.getcortexapp.com/) is a tool that lets engineering teams understand and improve their service oriented architecture. You'd be given a ton of ownership and opportunities to really make an outsized impact on our team. We have several interesting engineering and product challenges to solve, and your input will directly influence the direction of our product.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat is the role?\nWe're an early stage (YC and Sequoia backed) company, so you'll be working on a little bit of everything.\n\n\n* Building integrations with third party data sources (e.g. SonarQube, Datadog, Confluence)\n\n* Building out a live graph of services and their dependencies\n\n* Adding new functionality to our app (React + Typescript)\n\n* Exposing third party data in our REST API (Kotlin)\n\n* Adding functionality to our rules engine (ANTLR grammar for language, kotlin evaluator)\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat's our stack?\n\n\n* Kotlin + Spring Boot\n\n* Postgres\n\n* Typescript + React + Bootstrap\n\n* Kubernetes (GKE)\n\n\n\n\n#Location\nSF / Remote

\n\n\nSo, what will you do as a Founding Engineer at Index?\n\n\n* \nBuild new product features: everything from start to finish including conception, research, shipping, maintenance, and polish. For example, you will build new integrations, a dark mode option, a way to improve the UI via keyboard shortcuts, etc.\n\n* \nImprove reliability and performance: for example, help us decrease load time of our blocks.\n\n* \nImprove internal processes: help us use build internal dashboards (ideally with Index 🙂 ) that increase our leverage as a team. For example, a way to monitor and respond to new applicants quickly.\n\n* \nShape the future of work space: if you're interested having an impact in this industry we believe that Index is one of the places to do so. If you want to become more well known in the community we're happy to introduce you to other engineers working on similar problems. We also encourage you to write about what you learn as you build Index (e.g. blog posts, twitter threads, newsletter series, etc.). We will try to amplify your message as much as possible.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“If ease of use was the only requirement, everybody would still be riding tricycles” — Doug Engelbart\n\nThis might be for you if you're a...\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRapid Learner: you can pick up most technologies as you go and you proactively seek the best solution/implementation even if it's not what we're currently using. To you, using the right technology is a means to an end rather than a question of ideology.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTeam Builder: you're excited about joining the founding team growing the team by interviewing and coaching new hires.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nProduct Tinkerer: you can translate sketches from Figma or a napkin into components with little guidance while being mindful of how this fits with the rest of the product and what's best for the user. You also enjoy shaping our product direction by participating in user interviews, roadmap planning and feature brainstorms.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHolistic Thinker: you care deeply about shipping features that will move the needle for our users and the company. You're constantly trying to find the balance between speed, craft and revenue.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJavascript Fanatic: you're fluent with Typescript, React, and NodeJS.\nIdeally you..\n\n\n\n* Have 2 - 10 years of experience as an individual contributor with modern programming languages/technologies like Typescript, React, NodeJS, PostgreSQL, GraphQL etc.\n\n* \nBonus: You have experience w/ GCP.\n\n* \nBonus: You have experience with Docker and Kubernetes.\n\n* \nBonus: you've spent meaningful time as a senior engineer or tech lead (no management experience necessary). This means that you've thought about building application architectures from scratch and have experience scaling these.\n\n\n\nFAQ\n\n\n\n* What benefits can I expect?\n\n\n* Health Insurance\n\n* 401(k) to help you save for the future.\n\n* New laptop/equipment of your choice.\n\n* Daily lunch (on us!).\n\n* Flexible vacation time.\n\n* \nBYOB: interested in a benefit? Let us know and we will try to accommodate it(:\n\n* \nLearning Opportunities: if you want to host a meetup or some other event for the community, we will give you a small budget to make it happen.\n\n* \nGuest Speakers: we've started doing an all-team \"coffee break\" once a week & inviting a guest speaker - customers, friends, people we just want to learn from. \n\n\nWe are looking for an ambitious software developer to join our engineering team. You will build, test, and ship software across the stack; from browser clients to render personalized web experiences, to performant APIs to distribute data in real-time, to high-throughput data pipelines for ingesting user data. As the first engineer, you will define the architecture of our core systems, own products from infrastructure to UX, and work closely with the CTO to set the tone for the engineering culture. This role is particularly suited for senior engineers interested in building scalable web infrastructure in a fast-paced environment.\nWhat you’ll do at Mutiny:\n\n\n* Architect, build, test, and ship highly-available services that deliver personalization at scale.\n\n* Create and maintain open source clients our customers will use to integrate Mutiny into their stack.\n\n* Use machine learning to surface audience segments and recommend personalizations.\n\n* Use data to support product decisions and prioritize the right projects for the team.\n\n* Use the right language and framework for the challenge at hand. Currently we have services in Ruby, Golang, and TypeScript and are open to expanding our stack to best address our engineering challenges.\n\n* Build great user experiences that allow customers to easily understand their web audience and create unique experiences for them.\n\n* Work with the founders to influence product direction and bring structure to a dynamic, fast-paced environment.\n\n\n\nWhat we are looking for:\n\n\n* 3+ years of software engineering experience in a web development or infrastructure position.\n\n* Familiarity with JavaScript or other compile-to-JS language and a deep understanding of how the browser works.\n\n* Fluency in a backend programming language such as Python, Ruby, Golang or Scala.\n\n* Familiarity with PostgreSQL or other relational database, and an understanding of database performance.\n\n* Advocate of automated testing. We always include a full suite of tests for a feature to verify and future proof our code.\n\n* Open source contributors who want to release and maintain high-quality open source libraries.\n\n* A proponent of diverse and inclusive engineering cultures, and a commitment to fostering such an environment.\n\n* An exceptionally high performance bar for oneself and everyone on the team. Unafraid to communicate what’s working and what needs to change.\n\n* Someone who is energized by ambiguity and can create structure in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.\n\n* A kind human who wants to build an extraordinary product, culture and brand.\n\n\n\n\n#Location\nSan Francisco/remote / Remote

\n\n\nAbout Us\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGordian Software is building an API for the airline industry. Our API makes it easy for travel companies to increase revenue by seamlessly connecting with hundreds of airlines and other travel vendors.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOur team is lean, entrepreneurial and moves extremely fast. We do 3-day sprint cycles and believe we all must take extreme levels of ownership to ensure we are successful together.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe are confident in our approach and have built a high level of revenue with minimal capital investment. We focus on what our customers actually want rather than following industry analysis.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the role\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGordian Software is hiring full stack software engineers. We are open to various levels of seniority. Most of our work is backend. Our stack uses Python, Flask, React and Postgres. We’re open to candidates proficient in any programming language and believe the right candidate can pick up Python quickly.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nYou’ll be working with extremely capable engineers, including former founders, who understand the business context for every product and feature that we ship. We expect everyone on the team to be capable of making good choices and give wide latitude for our engineers to make decisions while executing on what customers need. This means you’ll be excited to release frequently and take total ownership of your code from writing to testing to deployment.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRequirements\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe base our requirements on our 3 core values: Freedom, Impact, Ownership\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFreedom - You should be comfortable in fast paced and rapidly changing environments. You should be able to exercise autonomy rather than needing detailed direction.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nImpact - This is a software engineering role. You should be capable of writing high quality code to solve business problems. We look for at least 1 year of professional experience in some type of business venture (i.e. a company, your own startup, or a project with live users). We value experience and aptitude over formal qualifications and education; our team ranges from self-taught hackers to computer science PhDs.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOwnership - You should be proactive and do whatever you think is necessary for the team to achieve our goal. If you want to avoid things that are “not my job”, this role is not a good fit.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIf this sounds exciting, reach out to us here or at [email protected]\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGordian Software is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate against any employee or applicant for employment based on race, color, religion, national origin, age, gender identity and/or expression, sex, ancestry, citizenship status, mental or physical disability, genetic information, sexual orientation, veteran status, or military status.\n\n#Location\nBurlingame, CA / Remote
