You will liaise with developers and management on a daily basis, and with clients as required. Although the job is remote you MUST be based in the UK (applicants from elsewhere, please do not apply).

We are looking for a self-motivated Quality Assurance professional who is excited about being a QA department of one, working closely with backend and frontend software developers at a remote-first company. In this position, you would test industry-leading software used by librarians and researchers around the world to help them stay better engaged with their favorite peer-reviewed journals.

Third Iron is dedicated to bringing next-generation technologies to libraries, and was founded by technologists and librarians with broad experience in the information industry. Libraries are going through a rapid transformation, and Third Iron helps libraries provide a great user experience for their patrons.  If you have not been in a library lately, you may be surprised how technology is truly at the center of everything a library does. Our multi-platform service, BrowZine, enables academic & research libraries to make their peer-reviewed journals available to their patrons in an easy-to-use interface.  Response has been terrific from a variety of professors and researchers at world-renowned institutions.

Your Role

As a Quality Assurance teammate, you will help ensure we ship high-quality software and minimize shipped defects for Third Iron's flagship product, BrowZine <browzine.com>, and its supporting services.

Your work will likely start with cleaning up our existing manual test procedures and creating new ones of your own. Since you are the first person with a dedicated QA role, your creativity in exploratory testing will be important, as well as being organized about how you will structure and otherwise write and maintain the regularly-run tests. Communicating frequently, abundantly, clearly, and empathetically are core skills for this position. A good eye for anomalies also helps!

Third Iron is a remote-first company. Everyone contributes remotely, whether on software development, customer support, or sales. We stay tightly in step with the needs of our customers - researchers and librarians - to help them browse, read, discover, and organize scholarly information.

Key Responsibilities:

* Writing & maintaining test procedures

* Formalizing certain aspects of our QA and manual test procedures into new tools or formats (for example, using Cucumber/Gherkin)

* Managing test procedures and test results alongside our JIRA issues for new features, bugs, etc.

* Testing our software in an exploratory manner to find bugs that slip by the automated tests we write during development

* Working as part of the dev team to figure out what to test and to ensure you get test results to developers in a timely fashion

You will be helping test multiple web apps, including browzine.com , BrowZine's associated native iOS and Android apps, and back office support tools.

Our software is written in a variety of technologies, but the ones you'll come into contact with the most are built using Javascript (usually NodeJS or Ember), Postgres, Swift / Objective-C, and Java. Check out our entire stack at StackShare for more information.

Our Quality Assurance teammate will also help with end-to-end automated tests, too, using some of the wide variety of tools available. This will be an additional layer of testing to our existing comprehensive automated test suite at the unit and integration level.

What We're Looking For:

A passion for quality assurance, and a desire for constantly improving how you do things, is important to us.

Strong communication skills - communicating frequently, abundantly, clearly, and empathetically - are absolutely critical on our remote-first team.

Comfort and interest with technology - generally having a little comfort with the UNIX command line is a good litmus test for this, but this could be demonstrated in a variety of ways. Some of the testing will involve the UNIX command line, in addition to exercising the apps in web browsers and on Android and iOS devices.

Being a self-motivated tester who can work independently is important for remote work in general, and on our team.

A strong desire to learn new technologies is something our teammates share. We want to embrace the tools and techniques that help us build great software and let us sleep soundly at night, knowing our users are having a delightful experience and our servers are not catching fire.

When applying, please include anything that helps demonstrate your testing and quality assurance abilities, such as articles or blog posts you've written, bug reports on open source projects, or anything else you can share that is indicative of how you best contribute to a team.

US work authorization required.

If you are a software development firm looking to hire out a team, do not contact us; we are interested in a single, full-time candidate.

About Third Iron

BrowZine, our flagship service, is used by hundreds of universities, hospitals, corporations and government facilities around the world.  Third Iron is a Minnesota, USA, company, but our software development team is distributed throughout the USA. We have been included in a list of the Top Telecommute Companies.

Whether a researcher's interest is in science/engineering/STEM, social science, humanities, or any other area of study, BrowZine provides them with convenient workflow tool firmly integrated into other library systems to help them keep up with their journal reading.

We are looking for a Senior Quality Assurance Manager to professionalize our testing procedures. Currently, we do not have much of an organized QA process in place and we've grown to a point where that needs to change. We have a decent amount of Automation Testing, but we need better procedures in place to support its usage, along with the implementation of a whole testing process. We are a small digital agency with a very large project.

QA Manager's responsibilities include designing and implementing tests, debugging and defining corrective actions. You will also review system requirements and track quality assurance metrics (e.g. defect densities and open defect counts.)

The QA manager role plays an important part in our company’s product development process. Our ideal candidate will be responsible for conducting tests before product launches to ensure software runs smoothly and meets client needs while being cost-effective.

Ultimately, you should monitor all stages of software development to identify and resolve system malfunctions to meet quality standards.

Responsibilities

- Review requirements, specifications and technical design documents to provide timely and meaningful feedback
- Create detailed, comprehensive and well-structured test plans and test cases
- Estimate, prioritize, plan and coordinate testing activities
- Execute automation scripts and provide feedback to engineers on failure
- Identify, record, document thoroughly and track bugs
- Perform thorough regression testing when bugs are resolved
- Develop and apply testing processes to reduce bug flow into production
- Liaise with internal teams (e.g. developers and product managers) to identify system requirements
- Monitor debugging process results
- Investigate the causes of non-conforming software and train users to implement solutions
- Track quality assurance metrics, like defect densities and open defect counts

Requirements

- Proven work experience in software quality assurance
- Strong knowledge of software QA methodologies, tools and processes
- Experience in writing clear, concise and comprehensive test plans and test cases
- Hands-on experience with both white box and black box testing
- Hands-on experience with executing automated testing
- Experience working in an Agile/Scrum development process

## What We Do
Simply put, we make websites easier to use. Through a scientific method of determining which site improvements result in actual performance improvements, we replace the old way of designing sites through gut feel and management opinions with designing sites through data. Tactically speaking, clients come to us for both strategic direction and to supplement their internal teams.

## The Product Manager
As a Product Manager at CROmetrics, you will be a hybrid product manager, strategic thinker, account manager and data analyst. Your primary role is to partner with our clients to improve their websites through data-driven experimentation and personalization. A Product Manager spends much of their time interfacing with clients, designers and engineers. On the client side, the PM must be able to generate data-driven ideas that will improve revenue and other key metrics on client websites.

As a PM, you will be leading all A/B testing and personalization experimentation for the client, which includes the following:

+ Partnering with the client for the ideation, prioritization, road-mapping, design, and approval process for all hypotheses generation and experimentation
+ Diving deep into the results to deliver the data story, learnings and recommendations from the experiment
+ Collaborating with a remote team of engineers, designers and other PMs to support experiment ideation and execution
+ Managing all aspects of the client relationship from daily experiment monitoring to kicking off the renewal process to evangelizing the value of CROmetrics
In addition, as a CROmetrics team member, you will:
+ Support the professional growth of the team through leading and/or participating in ongoing training, e.g. book club
+ Engage in non-client related activities that help grow our business, e.g. writing the PM job description or delivering hypotheses and mock-ups for a sales deck
+ Actively participate in our remote culture

## Who we’re looking for
Our most successful candidates have the following skills/experience/traits:

+ 5+ years of professional experience working in digital product management, user experience design or similar roles on consumer-facing web products
+ Demonstrated extremely strong presentation and communication skills
+ Built and delivered product roadmaps full of winning and losing ideas
+ Passion for using data to improve user experiences
+ Hands-on experience analyzing digital business data to inform decisions and plan strategically
+ Worked cross-functionally in a highly collaborative environment, preferably in a remote capacity
+ Genuinely like working with clients and their distributed stakeholder groups
+ Love product strategy, but obsessed with the details on execution
+ Lifelong learner

_If you have questions as you go through this, make notes and if we haven’t answered them by the end, feel free to email chris@crometrics.com or tom@crometrics.com._

## Our Culture
+ **We’re a remote company.** We are spread out all over the country and enjoy the flexibility remote working affords. Want to go on a mountain bike ride in the middle of the day? Cool, don’t forget your helmet! Need to pick the kids up from school? Nice, you’ve got parent of the year in the bag. We stay connected through Slack and workcations, including one annual trip that is funded by the company.
+ **Our engineers value elegant code, but move fast.** We’re writing code that runs on top of existing websites. Some tests only run for a few days before disappearing (though some do so well they become a permanent part of the client’s site). If “minimum viable product” isn’t in your lexicon, you aren’t a good fit.
+ **Communication is critical.** We’re a remote company. That makes communication — including writing and reading comprehension — extremely important. You’ll work closely with engineers, designers and writers. This is not a simple “write specs and close tickets” gig. Successful applicants enjoy the process of defining and clarifying specs, documenting processes, improving processes, seeing their ideas and work affect millions of users, and uploading custom emoji to Slack.
+ **We’re relentlessly focused on our client’s happiness.** The PM is a client-facing role. Managing a client relationship virtually takes a different type of skill set – the PMs have to be both a strategic partner, the customer (represented by the data), teacher and project manager over the phone/email/Slack, all while delivering an exceptional level of service. This type of interaction is not for everyone, and we completely understand. It’s not easy!
+ **We are not perfect.** A the core of experimentation is the lesson to be learned from the test, whether a win, loss or inconclusive. We extend this concept to everything we do by setting the bar high for our team and fostering an environment of radical candor and constant learning.

This short essay sums up the philosophy we operate by: This is Professionalism: http://arches.io/2014/03/this-is-professionalism/

How do you apply?

## A unique application and hiring process, just like us
We’re glad you’re interested in working with us. We have a fairly unusual hiring process, but it has proven to work well both for us and for potential new hires. We have found that demonstrating basic competency is the best predictor of initial qualification for working with us, followed by actual work.

Our process reflects that. We’ve outlined our values and how we work above, and now we will ask you to complete a couple small tasks to show us you’re interested.

### Create A Work Sample
_The following is a typical task you would be doing on a daily basis. Follow the steps below to see if this type of work interests you and is a good fit. Please do not spend more than an hour on this task, as it is intended for you to be able to demonstrate basic competency in the core part of the job you will be doing_

We want to know how you think about designing elegant product solutions focused around increasing conversions.

Here is the website for one of our past clients: Hired.com. Hired spends a lot of money (e.g. through paid ads) to drive applicants, primarily software engineers, to their site. Their goal is to increase the number of leads/applicants that complete the signup flow and are ready to be hired.

1. Your first task is to come up with a hypothesis backlog of at least 6-8 ideas you have for improving conversions for the Hired.com. An example of a hypothesis is: “Adding a video to the Hired website will help job candidates understand how Hired works and therefore, increase conversions.”
2. Once you’ve developed your hypothesis backlog, choose one of the ideas that you believe is most likely to increase leads.
3. Write a spec for your chosen idea comprised of the user story, any supporting data, expected user or page interactions, engineering notes, etc. Optionally, you may also produce a wireframe and/or a visual to go along with your spec, using any number of UX tools such as Axure, Balsamiq, Invision or even simple pen/paper sketching. Just be sure to submit your spec as an image so anyone can view it without special software.

In a real-life client situation, you will work with the client to create a testing roadmap supported by data that aligns with the client’s KPI’s. You’ll then write a spec for the experiments, and will work with engineering to implement and QA the experiment. Once the test is implemented, you’ll run an A/B test, share the results with the client, draw insights from the test, and develop new ideas for testing.

### **Email Application**
When you’ve completed your hypothesis backlog and spec, please send an email to tom@crometrics.com and chris@crometrics.com. In the email, include the following:
+ A paragraph that tells us a little about yourself, why you want the job, and a description of prior A/B testing experience
+ Desired annual compensation range (to ensure we're not wasting one another's time - we're not going to hold you to this number) and general availability
+ Resume and link to your LinkedIn profile
+ The hypothesis/ideas backlog you created for Hired.com
+ The spec/wireframe for one of your top hypotheses
### Paid Interview
Assuming your submission exceeds expectations, we will reach out to schedule a few informal conversations with our team to learn more about you, and provide an opportunity for you to ask questions of us. If all goes well for both you and CROmetrics, we will hire you for a “paid interview” where you start working with us for a small number of hours each week as a 1099 contractor. This can be done on the side of your current full-time job so there is less risk to you.
If both parties like working together, we expand the relationship, generally into a full time W2 role. If not, we go our separate ways and both sides “won” in the deal. Thanks again for your interest in the Growth Product Manager position with CROmetrics. We look forward to hearing from you!

Are you an experienced digital marketer? Do you have a hunger to generate more revenue for clients? Are you passionate about conversion optimization? Then this job is definitely something for you! Our company will train and coach you to become a top-notch conversion optimization consultant.

Under the guidance of a senior conversion optimization consultant, you will help your (English speaking) clients to increase their revenue and profit through research and A/B testing.

You will work with owners of e-commerce sites on a day-to-day basis, and will be the single point of contact for your clients when it comes to conversion optimization.
A typical day in the job will consist of doing some form of research on your clients’ sites (Google Analytics analysis, user testing, heatmap analysis, form analysis, heuristic analysis, etc), coming up with hypotheses to test, and setting up tests (with the help of a developer).

## Requirements
* You are an experienced digital marketer and are passionate about conversion optimization. Ideally you have some experience with conversion optimization; however, good candidates without specific conversion optimization experience, but with other digital marketing experience, will also be considered.
* You have a thorough knowledge of Google Analytics. Preferably you are Google Analytics certified, or you are willing to get your certification before you start working for us.
* If you are ConversionXL Certified, then that's a big plus (although it's not required).
* You have experience working at an agency or as a freelancer in a client-facing role or at an e-commerce company.
* You love data and research, but you also have a lot of empathy and can easily put yourself in the position of the consumers visiting your clients’ e-commerce sites.
* You are a native English speaker. You are a good communicator, patient, friendly and honest.
* You focus on output and results rather than on ‘hours spent’. Efficiency and productivity are central in our company culture. Of course you're not on your own: we will help you to become more efficient and productive.
* You are a perfectionist.
* You have a can-do mentality. You don’t see problems, but rather challenges you will overcome. You are self-driven and always want to be the best. In short, you’re a high performer.
* You are flexible with your schedule. If you work remotely, you may be in a timezone different from that of your co-workers or clients. Therefore, occasional calls early in the morning or late at night may be unavoidable.

## We offer
* A challenging full-time job in an ambitious agency. We have great plans for the next few years and want our team to be diligent in growing together.
* A flexible working arrangement. You can work remotely from anywhere in the world. Or, if you prefer, you may relocate to Malta to work in our HQ. (Disclaimer: To relocate to Malta, you must be an EU or UK national or otherwise currently have the right to work in Malta.)
* A competitive salary - either as an employee (if you relocate to Malta) or as a contractor (if you work remotely).
* Performance bonuses.
* A few times per year, we hold get-togethers at our offices in picturesque Gozo (Malta) for all of our team members to have a chance to relax and get to know each other better.
* If you’re working from home and in need of a break, you’re always welcome to work a few days or weeks in our offices in Gozo (Malta)!
* You won’t have to travel to meet your clients - all meetings are held online through video conferencing.
* CRO boot camp consists of your first 2-3 weeks of training at our offices in Gozo. After that initial training period, you can start working remotely.
* We offer continuous on-the-job training. Learning opportunities don’t just cease after your initial training in Gozo.
* We offer a friendly work environment and a chance to meet and interact with people from all over the world.
* We have great English speaking clients to work with.
* We offer you 24 paid vacation days per year

*Are you currently a consultant? We understand that you may already have clients or projects of your own, and that is completely fine. However, we do request that you please mention this in your application. And please note that this is a full-time position, so you won't have much time left to keep working for your own clients or projects.*

Ideal Candidate
We're interested in someone comfortable with a generalist and devops role. You should be knowledgeable of standard system administration tasks and have a firm understanding of the role of load balancers and cluster architecture. It's 100x harder to write code if you don't know how the underlying operating system works.
We're looking for someone with a legitimate passion for technology, big data, and analyzing vast amounts of content.
We are also looking for people outside of the U.S. and Canada to maximize our time zone distribution. Ideally there should be least a 4 hour overlap with the Pacific Standard Time Zone (PST / UTC-8). We're based out of San Francisco but are migrating to the international level. If you don't have a natural time overlap with UTC-8 you should be willing to work evenings to be able to communicate easily with the rest of the team.
Culturally, we’re a remote company and want to embrace it as a way to reward our employees. We are fine with you working in remote locations as long as you’re generally available for communication and are productive.
We want someone to come in full time in a contractor role. We will need about 40 hours from you per week.
Job Responsibilities:
Understanding our crawler infrastructure and ensuring top quality metadata for our customers. There's a significant batch job component to analyze the output from the crawl to ensure top quality data.
Making sure our infrastructure is fast, reliable, fault tolerant, etc. At times this may involve diving into the source of tools like ActiveMQ, Cassandra and understand how the internals work. We contribute a LOT to Open Source development if our changes need to be given back to the community.
Building out new products and technology that will directly interface with customers. This includes cool features like full text search, analytics, etc. It's extremely rewarding to build something from ground up and push it to customers directly.
Architecture:
Our infrastructure consists of Java on Linux (Debian/Ubuntu) with the stack running on ActiveMQ, Cassandra, Zookeeper, and Jetty. We use Ansible to manage our boxes. We have a full-text search engine based on Elasticsearch, and store our firehose API data within Cassandra.
We have a totally new stack and infrastructure at this point. We recently did a full-stack rewrite and moved all the old code to our new infrastructure. This means we have very little legacy cruft to deal with.
Here's all the cool stuff you get to play with:
Large Linux / Ubuntu cluster running with the OS versioned using both Ansible and our own debian packages for software distribution.
Massive amount of data indexed from the web and social media. We index from 5-20TB of data per month and want to expand to 100TB of data per month.
Large Cassandra install on SSD.
SOLR / Elasticsearch migration / install. We’re experimenting with bringing this up now so it would be valuable to get your feedback.
Technical Skills:
Here's where you shine! we're looking for someone with a number of the following requirements:
Linux. Linux. Linux. Did I say Linux? We like Linux.
Experience in modern Java development and associated tools.
Maven, IntelliJ IDEA, Guice (dependency injection)
A passion for testing, continuous integration, and continuous delivery.
Cassandra. Stores content indexed by our crawler.
ActiveMQ. Powers our queue server for scheduling crawl work.
A general understanding and passion for distributed systems.
Ansible or equivalent experience with configuration management.
Standard web API use and design. (HTTP, JSON, XML, HTML, etc).
Cultural Fit:
We’re a lean startup and very driven by our interaction with customers, as well as their happiness and satisfaction. Our philosophy is that you shouldn’t be afraid to throw away a week's worth of work if our customers aren’t interested in moving in that direction.
We hold the position that our customers are 1000x smarter than we are and we try to listen to them intently, and consistently.
Proficiency in English is a requirement. Since you will have colleagues in various countries with various primary language skills we all need to use English as our common company language. You must also be able to work with email, draft proposals, etc. Internally we work as a large distributed Open Source project and use tools like traditional email, Slack, Google Hangouts, and Skype.
Familiarity working with a remote team and ability (and desire) to work for a virtual company.
Should have a home workstation, fast Internet access, etc.
Must be able to manage your own time and your own projects.
Self-motivated employees will fit in well with the rest of the team.
It goes without saying but being friendly and a team player is very important.

Repable powers data-informed decision making for streamers and eSports athletes.  Our passion is gaming, and we're constantly flipping back and forth between hard work and quick bursts of Overwatch, Hearthstone, League & other games.  We usually have Azubu, Twitch or YouTube live streaming in the background.  Our expertise is in analytics & data, and we're pooling on that knowledge to change the way the gaming industry operates.

You make things look amazing.  That’s what you do.  You have a fundamental understanding of why sites like Lever, Buffer, KISSMetrics, Slack, Hall and RescueTime look great and work well.  You also appreciate the concept of designing with data, knowing when to use numbers to inform your decisions, and when to go with your gut.

You aim to balance creativity with analysis & development, and look for cultures that respects design.  That being said, you've worked enough to know how painful the balance between shipping and perfection is.  Some say "design is beautiful.", but you know better, and believe "done is beautiful."

We’re a small team based out of Toronto, ON but are looking for like-minded individuals to grow with us within North America.  You don't need to live in Canada to be eligible for this position, but we'd prefer it if you were.

What Your First Year Will Look Like:

• You will be designing user interfaces, site flows and user flows for our product offerings.
• Our users will rely on your UI to make important decisions regarding their playing habits.  You'll know how to display data to them in a way that they immediately understand.
• Given that we’re working with gamers with limited technical knowledge, the UI needs to be clean to use and easy to follow.

You love being challenged to build interfaces from the ground up, and that’s what this position requires.  Your responsibilities will revolve around taking back-end developer output (API data) and turning it into works of UI art.

Requirements:

• You are an expert in visual design, having created the UI/UX approach to real world web products, preferably for SaaS or two-sided marketplace businesses.
• You'll be responsible for Repable's visual identify, creating our public-facing assets including website and other collateral as required.
• You can apply your exceptional understanding of visual design principles including color, shape, composition, and typography to web products.  You understand how they relate to web app development, user flow and UI specifically.
• You create UI components in a variety of styles that are both delightful and usable.
• You produce polished assets in Photoshop/Illustrator/etc efficiently as necessary.
• You can easily create assets that are consumable by front-end and back-end developers.
• You are passionate about iterating on designs in a fast-paced environment, before and after launch.
• You’re inspired by both qualitative research and analytics to creatively experiment and optimize your designs.
• You’re highly collaborative. You’ve worked with senior developers, product managers, internal sales teams and clients to provide successful designs solutions.
• You have knowledge of JavaScript, CSS3 and HTML5.
• You are familiar with MVC and MVVM patterns, frontend app frameworks (Extjs, AngularJS, backbone.js, knockoutjs, …).

Experience: 1 to 6 years experience in a similar role.

Skills:

Creativity, Photoshop Illustrator, Rapid Prototyping, Usability, Testing Information, Architecture, User Interface Design, Interaction Design,User modelling, User Experience, Design User Interface

Perks
• Work with people who have done this before
• A competitive startup salary
• Stock options - a part of this company could be yours
• Grow the early stage of a company

We are looking for a designer/developer who will have two main goals:

1. Brainstorm creative changes to our sites that improve traffic and performance, and then...
2. Make those ideas happen.

He or she must be able to continually imagine new strategies — everything from the obvious to the insane — and then design them, build them, test them, report on them, and finally make them live.

**Skills & experience…**

*Web development.* Proficient in JS, HTML, CSS, WordPress, and PHP (optional but preferred).

*A/B testing.* You know how to set up and track A/B tests that measure whether users are doing what you are predicting they do.

*Design.* Proficient in the major design softwares. UX-driven.

*Comfortable in Google Analytics.* You know what questions to ask regarding the effectiveness of your tests and you know where to look to get the data.

*Data-driven aesthetics.* You have your design ideals, sure, but you’ll shut them down as soon as you see the numbers pointing toward a different aesthetic. If the data shows that Papyrus is the font people click on more, we use it. It hurts, we know…but it works.

*Familiarity with the viral web.* You understand that even though this corner of the web is all about happy and heartwarming content, really it’s a strategy and numbers game. And you want to win.

*Self-motivated.* You care enough to do something crazy. We don’t want to ask for your ideas every day. We want to tell you to chill out because you have too many ideas on your own. And when you’ve been given the green light on an idea, you drive the project forward with little need for oversight.

*Cunning.* You push every boundary except ethical ones in your creative attempts to grow traffic and improve performance.

*Self-learner.* When you need to know something that you don’t already, you figure it out.

*Confident and personable.* You can interact well with the team, pitch your ideas, and convince the rest of us to try your crazy plans.

*Idea-generation.* “Brainstorm” is too mild of a word for the insane rush of creative thought spinning around in your mind.

**This role’s constant workflow…**

* Have a new idea for how traffic and site performance might improve.
* Design and develop this innovation.
* Create and track A/B tests to see if your new idea is effective.
* Analyze data and create a report based on the results.
* Present the results to the team.
* Decide with the team whether to implement the new idea.
* Implement the proven idea on the site.
* Manage meticulous QA.
* Start over at step 1.

Third Iron, founded in 2011 as a remote-first software development company, creates innovative library technologies to help academic libraries and the researchers they support. BrowZine, our flagship service, is used by hundreds of universities, hospitals, corporations and government facilities around the world.  Third Iron is a Minnesota, USA, company, but our software development team is distributed throughout the USA. A passion for testing, and a desire for constantly improving how you do things, is important to us.

Some of the testing will involve the UNIX command line, in addition to a variety of clicking in web browsers and tapping on Android and iOS devices.

Four year degree in an engineering or computer science discipline preferred.

When applying, please include anything that helps demonstrate your testing abilities, such as articles or blog posts you've written, bug reports on open source projects, or anything else you can share that is indicative of how you best contribute to a team.

US work authorization required.

If you are a software development firm looking to hire out a team, do not contact us; we are interested in a single, full-time candidate.

**What We Do**
Simply put, we make websites easier to use. Through a scientific method of determining which site improvements result in actual performance improvements, we replace the old way of designing sites through gut feel and management opinions with designing sites through data.
If you’re interested in checking out the swell people you’ll be working with, click here to [learn more about the team](https://crometrics.com/meet-the-team/).
**Our Hiring Process**
We’re glad you’re interested in working with us. We have a fairly unusual hiring process, but it has proven to work well both for us and for potential new hires. We have found that demonstrating basic competency is the best predictor of initial qualification for working with us, followed by actual work.
Our process reflects that: below, we outline our values and how we work, and then ask you to complete a small task. Assuming we like your response, we will hire you for a “paid interview” where you start working with us for a small number of hours each week. If both parties like working together, we expand the relationship. If not, we go our separate ways and both sides “won” in the deal!
This short essay sums up the philosophy we operate by: [This is Professionalism](http://arches.io/2014/03/this-is-professionalism/). Please read it and if you’re willing to work this way, read on!
If you have questions as you go through this, make notes and if we haven’t answered them by the end, feel free to email matthew.gossage@crometrics.com or chris@crometrics.com.
*Our positions are fully remote and to ensure compliance with all applicable labor laws, are open to U.S.-based applicants only. In general, we are not hiring in Washington state, Oregon state, San Francisco, or New York.*
**Our Culture**
* We’re a remote company. We are spread out all over the country and enjoy the flexibility remote working affords. Want to go on a mountain bike ride in the middle of the day? Cool, don’t forget your helmet! Need to pick the kids up from school? Nice, you’ve got parent of the year in the bag. We stay connected through Slack and [workcations](https://crometrics.com/culture/workcations/), including one annual trip that is partially funded by the company.
* We value elegant code as much as you do, but we move fast. We’re writing code that runs on top of existing websites. Some tests only run for a few days before disappearing (though some do so well they become a permanent part of the client’s site). There will be polling patterns and liberal use of !important.
* Again, we’re a remote company. That makes communication — including writing and reading comprehension — extremely important. You’ll work closely with product managers, designers and writers. This is not a simple “pull tickets and check in code” gig. Successful applicants enjoy the process of defining and clarifying specs, documenting processes, improving processes, and uploading custom emoji to Slack.

Since you are the first person who has a dedicated QA role, being creative about what to test is important to us, as well as being organized about how you will structure and otherwise write and maintain tests. Communicating frequently, abundantly, clearly, and empathetically are also core skills for this position. A good eye for things that look strange also helps!

Third Iron is a remote-first company. Everyone contributes remotely, whether software developer, customer support, or sales. We stay tightly in step with the needs of our customers - researchers and librarians - to help them browse, read, discover, and organize scholarly information.

Key Responsibilities:

* Writing test procedures

* Managing test procedures and results alongside our JIRA issues for new features, bugs, etc.

* Testing our software in an exploratory manner to find bugs that slip by the automated tests we write during development

* Working together with the dev team to figure out what to test and to ensure you get test results to developers in a timely fashion

You will be helping test multiple web apps, including browzine.com , and BrowZine's associated native iOS and Android apps.

Our software is written in a variety of technologies, but the ones you'll come into contact with the most are built using Javascript (usually NodeJS or Ember), Postgres, Swift / Objective-C, and Java. Check out our entire stack at StackShare for more information.

Eventually, we would certainly like our first Quality Assurance teammate to write automated tests, too, using some of the wide variety of tools available. However, that skill, or prior experience with this, is not necessary.

What We're Looking For:

A passion for quality assurance, and a desire for constantly improving how you do things is important to us.

Some of the testing will involve the UNIX command line, in addition to a variety of clicking in web browsers and tapping on Android and iOS devices.

About Third Iron

Third Iron, founded in 2011 as a remote-first software development company, creates innovative library technologies to help academic libraries and the researchers they support. BrowZine, our flagship service, is used by hundreds of universities, hospitals, corporations and government facilities around the world.  Third Iron is a Minnesota, USA, company, but our software development team is distributed throughout the USA. We have been included in a list of the Top Telecommute Companies.

About BrowZine

BrowZine is a service that helps researchers browse, read and monitor academic literature. Whether a researcher's interest is in science/engineering/STEM, social science, humanities, or any other area of study, BrowZine provides them with convenient workflow tool firmly integrated into other library systems to help them keep up with their journal reading.

We need a QA Engineer with test automation skills

We truly believe that hiring the best people and giving them the tools they need is the biggest key to success.  We're currently building a small development team and looking for friendly, talented folks to join the team.  We're well-funded and (we think) fun to work with.
A key part of moving fast is making sure our product meets a high quality bar. (People get very nervous if the company to which they're entrusting their financial future can't make their own website work right.)

We need a QA engineer who's comfortable at every part of the job: manual UI testing, black/white box acceptance testing, exploratory testing, test automation, and continuous integration. We've made a big investment in test automation, but we need to take that - and our quality bar in general - to the next level. Another way to put it: you need to be able to read and write code as well as you can write and execute test plans.

If you have a background in insurance that is a definite plus!

If you're interested, reach out!

Skills & Requirements

* Detail-oriented

* Eager to learn

* Fast

* Communicative

**_Our positions are fully remote and to ensure compliance with all applicable labor laws, are open to U.S.-based applicants only. In general, we are not hiring in Washington state, Oregon state, San Francisco, or New York_**
## The Director of Growth Product Management
As a Director of Growth Product Management at CROmetrics, you will be a player/coach overseeing a team of people who are hybrid product manager, strategic thinker, account manager and data analyst. Your primary role is to enable our product managers to be successful. Since you have done this yourself for a while, you’ll be able to quickly gain the respect of your team in showing them how it’s done while also helping them to develop the skills they’ll need to grow in their own careers. Product Managers spend much of their time interfacing with clients, designers and engineers. On the client side, our Product Managers must be able to generate data-driven ideas that will improve revenue and other key metrics on client websites while being rooted in better understanding what the customer wants.
Our PMs lead all A/B testing and personalization experimentation for the client, which includes the following:
+ Partnering with the client for the ideation, prioritization, road-mapping, design, and approval process for all hypotheses generation and experimentation
+ Diving deep into the results to deliver the data story, learnings and recommendations from the experiment
+ Collaborating with a remote team of engineers, designers and other PMs to support experiment ideation and execution
+ Managing all aspects of the client relationship from daily experiment monitoring to kicking off the renewal process to evangelizing the value of CROmetrics
The director must be able to do all of these things on their own, and be focused on enabling their team to level up their skills. Expect about 10% travel as you visit key accounts regularly.
If you don’t have previous management experience, an individual contributor role at CROmetrics might be a possibility. The type of individual contributor who will succeed in this role is strongly correlated with prior management experience since the type of client problems you encounter require solutions that leverage both the client and internal teams typical of strong internal product managers who need to influence teams that don’t report to them.
## Who we’re looking for
Our most successful candidates have the following skills/experience/traits:
+ 10+ years of professional experience working in digital product management, user experience design or similar roles on web products. You must have experience running successful, mature A/B testing or personalization programs. Familiarization with Optimizely is a bonus.
+ Experience managing other product managers or marketers running optimization programs.
+ 5+ years experience managing others.

+ Read more about our culture and core values on our [culture page](https://crometrics.com/culture/).

Since the position is for a player/coach, we’d like you to demonstrate basic competency as well. Please do not spend more than an hour on this task, as it is intended for you to be able to demonstrate basic competency in the core part of the job you will be doing._
We want to know how you think about designing elegant product solutions focused around increasing conversions.
Here is the website for a past client: Hired.com. Hired spends a lot of money (e.g. through paid ads) to drive applicants, primarily software engineers, to their site. Their goal is to increase the number of leads/applicants that complete the signup flow and are ready to be hired.
1. Your first task is to come up with a hypothesis backlog of at least 6-8 ideas you have for improving conversions for Hired.com.
When you’ve completed your hypothesis backlog and spec, please send an email to tom@crometrics.com, chris@crometrics.com and jill@crometrics.com. In the email, include the following:
+ A cover letter that includes a description of prior AB Testing, agency, and/or management experience.
+ A link to your LinkedIn profile and the name of the town/city you live in. Note the job is open to US-based applicants only.
+ Desired annual compensation range (to ensure we’re not wasting one another’s time – we’re not going to hold you to this number) and general availability
If all goes well for both you and CROmetrics, we will hire you for a “paid interview” where you start working with us for approximately one week (12-15 hours max) as a 1099 contractor. This can be done on the side of your current full-time job so there is less risk to you.
If both parties like working together, we expand the relationship into a full time W2 role. If not, we go our separate ways and both sides “won” in the deal. Thanks again for your interest in The Director of Growth Product Manager position with CROmetrics. We look forward to hearing from you!

We want a very experienced Automation Engineer to help us get our end-to-end test suite to the next level as we quickly build out new features and functionality for our direct sales/ecommerce platform. It's an exciting microservice architecture of 17 loosely coupled Rails services. It’s in production, supporting multiple brands and driving millions of dollars of revenue every month from US sales.

All of our services are well tested at the api level, but we have only key flows covered with Nightwatch.js from the browser. This role is to take the lead on getting detailed test coverage as part of our CI workflow.

We are a remote-first company with a globally distributed team of 60. We’re proud of the way we get great work done. Our clients love working with us and we partner with them on long-term projects. Our teams are engaged and excited about our work.

What do we offer?

* Work as part of a talented, globally distributed, successful team

* A focussed adherence to our agile/scrum processes (we really believe it helps getting good work done)

* An expectation that you understand the product, that you help Product Managers and Developers think through the implications of new features.

* A great working atmosphere where you can share and learn with other smart people

* The best-in-class toolsets: Slack, CI/CD with Docker etc

* Competitive rates

* A long term working relationship: at least a year working on this project, then others.

You'll be:

* Working within a fast moving team (working 11am - 8pm Central European time)

* Figuring out and prioritizing automation tests

* Writing and maintaining automation tests with Nightwatch.js

You will gain significant additional exposure to clients and applications you’d never have seen otherwise while working in a team comprised of seasoned experts and junior entry level penetration testers earning money for valid vulnerabilities you identify and document.

The main difference to public bug bounties of other large companies? You can actually find issues sometimes within just a few minutes because the apps you’ll test are not hardened and competition is much smaller than on a public bounty program. You can also see issues reported by other testers in real-time which you won’t find elsewhere. SQL injections, remote code executions, serious access control flaws, IDOR, buffer overflows etc. all within reach in these projects. When’s the last time you were allowed to exploit one of those for real?

The successful candidates will primarily be working in the areas of:

* Application penetration testing

* Internal & External Network & infrastructure penetration testing

* Secure application development lifecycle

* You will be expected to have some experience in some or all of the above areas and will wish to further your career in this area.

You’ll need to have a passion for this area and understand what it means to use ethical hacking skills to help organisations protect their systems and information assets. You could be responsible for trying to break the most advanced defences in the world working with the best in your field across industries and sectors. You’ll need an enquiring mind, the tenacity to overcome technical challenges, and an ability to approach problems from different perspectives.

Job description

You will be conducting manual penetration tests on applications of varying complexity, from a simple looking one-page website which will turn out to have issues across all OWASP TOP 10, to extremely hardened enterprise CRM web applications, mobile applications with proprietary algorithms, space station infrastructure and more.

The work is usually performed remotely as part of a team of other penetration testing experts that you will both compete with and collaborate with. You will have insights into the findings of any of the other testers on the team, so you will have the ability to learn from the very best on every assessment and improve your skills.

You will use a common tool suite for web and mobile testing, including Kali Linux, burpsuite (or other proxy tools you enjoy using) but have free reign over the choice of tools unless specific project instructions restrict that.

Are you the QA engineer to help us implement a robust QA process for our open source platforms developed for non profit organisations?

We like to build stuff… sometimes complicated stuff… and sometimes it breaks! So we’re looking for a confident and ambitious Senior QA Test Engineer to join our distributed team.

We do things a little differently, basing all our solutions on open source products, having flexible working hours and real team mentality. Our work covers web design, CRM, app development and branding for Charities and non-profit organisations across the country. Our clients include Charities such as Wikimedia and Farm Africa, galleries such as the Photographers Gallery and Craft Central but also companies, trade associations and government bodies.

We are also developing several open source products that are used by non profit organsiations worldwide and the role will be uniquely rewarding as you will have the opportunity to influence and support these valuable projects.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced QA engineer who has worked on many complex web applications in the past.

The role will involve a mixture of writing and executing manual test scripts, feeding back to developers on bugs or issues noted. There may also be some future work on automation testing although the primary focus for this role will be manual testing. The ideal candidate would have some existing CRM and CMS experience (ideally Drupal), be an expert in developing comprehensive test plans, have expert SQL knowledge and be comfortable setting up a basic development environment and working with Git.

What were looking for is someone who can grasp concepts quickly, has great attention to detail, and loves picking holes in (other people’s!) logic. In short, we’re a team of self confessed geeks who love tinkering and tweaking until something is just right, and we’re looking for someone who thinks and acts like us to join our growing team.

If you are interested in the role, please send your CV through to us with a short covering letter explaining what caught your interest and why you think you would fit in.

(Please note that this is a remote position)

IF YOU’RE A TASK-KILLING,

RIGOROUS THINKING,

ONLY-NEED-TO-BE-TOLD ONCE WARRIOR,

WHO FINDS SATISFACTION IN ORGANIZING CHAOS

Title: Senior Quality Engineer

At AutoLotto we’re assembling a world-class team of brilliant minds, resourceful doers and creative problem-solvers with a ‘find a way or make a way’ attitude. Founded in 2015 and based in San Francisco, California, AutoLotto is creating the next generation of lottery ticket sales & ticket management systems. We make buying and redeeming lottery tickets more convenient, secure and intelligent through our mobile application and online platform and we’re looking to grow our team of ‘BAMFs’ across key regions in the United States.

In the engineering team, we test our agility everyday, knocking out features and deploying high quality, maintainable and functional software. On any given day we knock out hundreds of scrum points and work to improve the quality and functionality of a rapidly growing product and infrastructure.  We’re data driven and growth-focused.  Our work directly impacts the success of the company and will be critical to our rapid growth and scale.

Curiosity:  Most of us dork out over non-work related topics at a ridiculous level of detail, because that’s how we’re wired. We’re naturally inquisitive, ask tough questions and aren’t afraid to ruffle feathers to find better answers.

Honesty: We’re transparent and honest because that’s the right way to treat other people. Integrity is the basis of trust, and trust is everything when you’re creating the future together.

Responsibilities

* Take ownership over testing and assuring quality of mission critical applications

* Produce maintainable, functional, high reliability code, procedures and tests which ensure compliance of key product functionality

* Our focus is building and keep iterating on universal experiences and interfaces that work for and delight users between ages of 1 and 99.

* The back-end is made available to our web app, our native mobile apps and our partner's applications as a simple REST API.

* Security is extremely important to us and we regularly work with experts to review our security strategy.

Are you the QA engineer to help us implement a robust manual QA process for our open source platforms developed for non profit organisations?

We like to build stuff… sometimes complicated stuff… and sometimes it breaks! So we’re looking for a confident and ambitious Senior Manual QA Test Engineer to join our distributed team.

Do you believe in the power of Open Source? Were you the kid that took apart the family TV not just to see how it worked but because you thought you could make it better? Can you detect and prevent the invasion of bugs better than the Orkin man?  If you answered yes to any/all of these, then you really need to be a Software Development Engineer in Test at Rackspace.

With the largest OpenStack public cloud in the business and our commitment to provide our customers the best platform to continue changing the world, the life of an SDET at the Rack can be quite unique and rewarding. How is this possible? Easy—we help match your passions, birthday wishes, and Sherlock skills with the right opportunity to be GREAT. Here’s a preview to get you started:

Pushing the Limits of the Cloud:

Rackspace has some of the most notable upstream OpenStack contributors on the planet. Duh…we co-founded the thing so of course we do. Whether for our public or private cloud offerings, our Devs are pounding out code in Python, Ruby, Java or whatever’s the next big thing at a break-neck pace. So when it comes to SDETs, we take pride in being true partners in excellence; not some robot or second-tier Dev whose only task is to cross off test cases from a checklist. Our SDETs have a tinker’s mind with a natural curiosity to know where we are going and to anticipate the unexpected. Diversity drives innovation people so our teams are dispersed across the globe—even working from their favorite Cheetos stained gaming chair at home.

 Internal Innovation:

Ten data centers around the globe with several hundred thousand servers that all need to seamlessly interact like one of your LAN parties back in college. If you like HUGE environments then jump on into this playground. Our DevOps Engineers, Software Developers, and Infrastructure Engineers have to keep up with the demands of the industry that didn’t exist, oh 5 minutes ago.  Our SDETs who partner with these teams are literally building their dreams to insure what’s new today is built to withstand the strains of tomorrow. Bulletproof code—that’s how we roll.

This is NOT your uncle’s Quality Engineering team where there was a lack of software development to accomplish testing and the job was just about manual button pushing. Are you ready to change the game doing what they said can’t be done? Are you ready to automate bigger things better and faster? What are you waiting for? Click that apply button, talk with one of our talent specialists and get ready to jump on in to the best adventure you’ve ever had.

Still not convinced? Hear from the Rackers who do this day in and day out but still can’t believe this is their job. QE at the Rack

In the great Northwest they call it an SDET.  Other places they call it a Test Engineer or Test Developer.  Whatever they call it, it's you.  You've somehow found yourself writing code that tests other people's code.

At Granbury we respect the mighty SDET and we'll need your help laying a safety net for a major refactoring effort.  You'll use a new front end test automation tool we've built on top of Selenium WebDriver to make sure our wine club, wine e-commerce, and tasting room point-of-sale systems work reliably and accurately.

Like Wes Mantooth, the other developers may hate you for it, but they will respect you.

And they'll work with you.  When you need DOM elements to have id's, they will give you id's.  You won't have to slog your way through with unwieldy xpath expressions.  You won't be a second class citizen and you'll get the respect and support you need.  No code ships without a green bar from you.

And you'll do all this from the comfort of your own home.  This is a remote position, but you'll keep in touch with your team with daily virtual standups.  We'll pick a spot on the map every so often and get together for a technical conference (including PNSQC in October) or an in person design confab.  And yes, there will probably be free wine and excuses to take your main squeeze on a trip to Napa Valley.  After we ship the most stable release in the company's history thanks to your efforts, you'll walk into the Napa office to a slow teary eyed round of applause.
