As a Senior Security Engineer, you will be a key contributor to leading security initiatives around foundational infrastructure supporting the PagerDuty SaaS offerings through architecture reviews, threat modeling sessions, and designing security tool implementations supporting PagerDutyโs security mission. You will work closely with our internal development teams to ensure we deliver secure, highly reliable, and scalable solutions to our customers. Things that make you smile: Secure Infrastructure, systems, automation, analysis, coding, and cute animal memes.\n\nKEY RESPONSIBILITIES \n\n\n* Act as technical team lead by providing mentorship designing and scoping implementation of security projects and guiding team members to ensure implementation is completed. Work closely with Product Engineering teams to review service designs (full stack) and provide security-focused recommendations to address potential threats or insecure designs. Provide oversight and mentorship to the Corporate Security team to ensure alignment with CISO mandates.\n\n* Mentor and help guide team members to ensure product and business objectives are considered for project implementations.\n\n* Work with loosely defined requirements where you exercise your analytical skills to clarify questions, share your approach, and collaborate with the rest of the team to build/test elegant solutions.\n\n* Participate in our teamโs on-call rotation, triaging and addressing security issues as they arise.\n\n* Enable service team security implementations by building security-as-code constructs into infrastructure-as-code (IaC) modules, maintaining hardened configurations in platform components (container images, kubernetes deployments, etc.), and maintaining developer focused documentation to ensure low effort adoption.\n\n* Continually improve infrastructure security implementations with consideration for IAM, Network Access, and Security Alerting supporting kubernetes and AWS infrastructure with services operating modern-day a microservice architecture.\n\n\n\n\nBASIC QUALIFICATIONS\n\n\n* 5+ years of experience as a full-stack Security Engineer in a cloud-native, micro-service SaaS, PaaS, or IaaS environment.\n\n* Strong understanding of AWS IAM best practices, and demonstrated experience in implementing a strong and scalable IAM strategy.\n\n* Must have current AWS and Kubernetes (EKS) experience. \n\n* Technical stack experience required to be successful in this role:\n\n\n\n* AWS Security (GuardDuty, CloudTrail, Secrets Manager, EKS/ECR, IAM family, Config), Vulnerability management (Qualys/Nessus, Twistlock, Snyk), SIEM (SumoLogic or Splunk), Container Security, CI/CD Discipline (Helm, Terraform, Chef, Kubernetes (EKS)), Security Incident Response & Risk Management. \n\n\n\n* Proficiency in at least one programming language and framework (e.g. Ruby on Rails, Python, Phoenix/Elixir, Java). \n\n* Familiarity with Threat Modeling principles.\n\n\n\n\nPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS\n\n\n* Current or past experience with obtaining and maintaining FedRAMP authorization. \n\n* Experience working at a SaaS company larger than 1000 employees and 100M in revenue. \n\n* Ability to think through a complex problem, build a solution, and execute that solution with effective change management skills. \n\n* Possesses a strong sense of ownership and a keen discernment for excellence in security systems within a SaaS environment, demonstrating the ability to distinguish what constitutes a truly robust and effective safeguarding infrastructure.\n\n* Ability to design, monitor, and operate security logging and alerting toolsets.\n\n* Demonstrated history of mentoring and coaching.\n\n* Familiarity with Corporate security needs and solutions. \n\n\n\n\nThe base salary range for this position is 176,000 - 277,000 USD. Your Role

Your Responsibilities
Enhance our mission and expand our product's capabilities by developing new integrations with third-party services and APIs. This includes eCommerce platforms, Point-of-Sale (PoS) systems, CRMs, and more. Your contribution will be instrumental in broadening our product's scope and enriching our platform's connectivity options, directly impacting the way our clients do business.
Building new features and functionality for both the frontend and backend.
Optimize existing complex backend processing jobs when required.
Collaborate with the CTO in identifying parts of the system that need fixing and optimization.
Participate in building new app features and our new dashboard.
Assisting in scaling efforts by performing benchmarks and optimizations as needed, and proposing changes to architecture design.
Your Qualifications
You have experience building applications with Ruby and Rails, ideally in projects involving complex interactions with 3rd party APIs.
You possess a deep understanding of application integration, including studying and understanding integration tools' documentation, and transforming it into efficient code.
You have a good background in JavaScript and familiarity with Hotwire and other popular JavaScript frameworks such as React, Vue, etc.
Strong experience with PostgreSQL, including working with large databases, complex queries, and materialized views.
A formal Engineering or CS background is preferred, but not required. If not, the candidate should be able to explain how they have learned the fundamentals of CS.
Familiarity with design patterns, Domain-Driven Design (DDD), and algorithms.
A strong sense of aesthetics and product design, with the ability to improve flows and UI designs independently.
Familiarity with common stack tools and technologies such as Github, CI, RSpec, AWS, CSS/Sass/TailwindCSS.
You are humble and have excellent asynchronous communication skills. You are open to giving and receiving constructive criticism.
You possess strong written and verbal communication skills in English and can explain complex issues clearly. Knowledge of Spanish or Portuguese would be a plus.
