Zapier Job Board is hiring a
Remote Engineering Manager Site Reliability

\nJob Posted: 1/4/24\n\nLocation: Americas (Pacific Time)\n\nHi there!\n\nZapierโ€™s on a mission to make everyone more productive at work.  With millions of people benefiting from automation, we're excited to keep expanding our product and team. As we continue to scale our product and grow our team, weโ€™re looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to manage a remotely distributed team of Site Reliability Engineers.\n\nOur Site Reliability Engineers collaborate closely with developers, aiding in the design, automation, and maintenance of services. While developers manage the services themselves, our SREs ensure they have the necessary tools and knowledge for success.\n\nIn this role, you'll work across various teams, ensuring your group offers the right support to developers. You'll coordinate multiple projects and collaborate directly with senior leaders to set project priorities. By nurturing your team's talents, you'll enhance application reliability through a software engineering approach to operations. This position allows you to impact every engineering team within the organization, utilizing a wide range of technologies. Maintaining strong relationships and effective communication with teams is key to your success.\n\nWhen issues arise, your team will be there to address root causes, learn from failures, and establish a robust and resilient system for our customers. We prioritize solutions that automate problems rather than relying on manual efforts.\n\nJoin us in our mission to revolutionize productivity through automation!\n\n \nThings We've Done Recently:\n\n\n* Developed numerous microservices within Kubernetes, spanning across multiple AWS accounts.\n\n* Actively participated in open-source Kubernetes initiatives to bolster our stack's autoscaling capabilities.\n\n* Scaled our infrastructure to effortlessly manage millions of daily requests.\n\n* Successfully executed substantial migrations involving hosting providers, database platforms, and stateful technologies.\n\n* Established efficient deployment pipelines utilizing GitLab and ArgoCD to facilitate continuous delivery.\n\n* Crafted user-friendly tools for instantaneously launching new Kubernetes services with a simple click.\n\n* Our journey has been filled with growth and innovation, and we're excited to continue pushing boundaries!\n\n\n\n\nWe know applying for and taking on a new job at any company requires a leap of faith. We want you to feel comfortable and excited to apply at Zapier. To help share a bit more about life at Zapier, here are a few resources in addition to the job description that can give you an inside look at what life is like at Zapier. Hopefully, you'll take the leap of faith and apply.\n\nOur Commitment to Applicants\n\nCulture and Values at Zapier\n\nZapier Guide to Remote Work\n\nZapier Code of Conduct\n\nDiversity and Inclusivity at Zapier\n\n \nAbout You\n\n\n* \n\nYou're an effective team builder. This isn't your first leadership role and you've been in a direct leadership role for at least two years. You know how to hire, train, and develop Site Reliability Engineers from all backgrounds. You understand the benefits of building a diverse and inclusive SRE team. You value teamwork and believe in helping others feel safe to grow and develop. You help engineers get better at what they do, and you donโ€™t need to be in the same room to help them succeed.\n\n\n* \n\nYou have a background in site reliability engineering. Youโ€™re comfortable talking about SLOs, incident management, and building a culture of reliability. You have empathy for our customers and our engineers who use our systems and are eager to make improvements for them. You seek to reduce toil and understand what it means to take a software engineering approach to operations.\n\n\n* \n\nYou're customer-focused. You seek to delight your customers. You have experience working directly with both internal and external customers to understand their needs. You know how to take a customer problem and help guide your team towards finding and implementing the best solution.\n\n\n* \n\nYou have excellent communication skills. You regularly work with engineers and other stakeholders, balancing engineering concerns (such as technical debt) with product concerns. Not only do you know how to share your knowledge with the team and document things well so they can be consumed asynchronously (we do this a lot as a remote company), but you know how to communicate effectively with software and support teams.\n\n\n* \n\nYouโ€™re a strong leader. You lead by example and empathy, understand the business and how to prioritize project work, emphasize mentorship, and create an environment of learning. You understand that experimentation is essential and know how to support your team through that process. You encourage diversity of thought and know that the team is collectively stronger than any individual.\n\n\n* \n\nYou know the cloud. Youโ€™ve designed and maintained highly available, cloud-based infrastructures in AWS or another cloud offering. You understand how to leverage infrastructure as code tools and have experience implementing best practices for reliability and observability.  We use Terraform, Kubernetes, Redis, GitLab, and Datadog.\n\n\n* \n\nYou can code. You have experience with a language like Python or Go to create automated tools. You believe in hands-off deployments and infrastructure as code. Well-honed expertise with the fundamentals of software development goes a long way here.\n\n\n* \n\nYou value our values. At Zapier, our values are at the heart of how we work together and think about our customers. In our remote setting, they help develop trust and ensure we work and collaborate to democratize automation. You see how these values can empower meaningful work, thrive in a collaborative setting, and are eager to continue growing excited to be part of the team.\n\n\n\n\n\n \nThings Youโ€™ll Do\n\nZapier is a fast-growing company, so you'll likely get experience on many different projects across the organization. Here are some things you'll probably do:\n\n\n* \n\nCollaborate closely with engineering peers to deliver high-quality, reliable, and efficient production software.\n\n\n* \n\n Champion the advancement of Site Reliability Engineering practices within the Engineering department.\n\n\n* \n\nLead the development of incident management processes and on-call response procedures.\n\n\n* \n\nOperate within an agile framework to provide essential infrastructure for Zapier's engineering team.\n\n\n* \n\nExecute the strategic vision of Production Engineering by identifying and delivering relevant backlog items.\n\n\n* \n\nFoster effective communication, monitoring, and leadership through weekly one-on-ones and team meetings.\n\n\n* \n\nKeep the leadership team informed of your team's progress through approaches like one-on-one discussions, updates, and regular team gatherings.\n\n\n* \n\nBuild rapport with each member of your Engineering Team (and beyond!) Support them through coaching and mentorship to help level up their skills.\n\n\n* \n\nActively participate in recruiting, onboarding, and training new engineers at Zapier, which may involve refining interview assessments and documentation.\n\n\n\n\n \nZapier Compensation Guiding Principles\n\nWe believe all Zapiens should be rewarded competitively and equitably, using practices that are simple and transparent. This philosophy ensures weโ€™re able to find, grow, and retain exceptional people from a broad range of backgrounds. Hereโ€™s how we define our compensation principles:\n\n\n* Competitive: Zapier pays well among the technology sector.\n\n* Equitable: Consistent pay practices; Pay for impact.\n\n* Simple: Pay is well understood, and pay practices are built for scale.\n\n* Transparent: Zapiens know how pay works, including how their pay is determined.\n\n\n\n\nThe pay ranges for this role are:\n\nUnited States $184,000- $230,000- $276,000 USD\n\nCanada  $184,000- $230,000- $276,000 CAD\n\nA Candidate's compensation package is finalized once the interview process is concluded and accounts for demonstrated experience, job knowledge, skills,  abilities, and internal equity. We use a business impact approach to base pay, which means we set pay for all Zapier employees based on their demonstrated impact to Zapierโ€™s success. In alignment with that philosophy, the upper half of a pay range is typically reserved for individuals who have consistently demonstrated a high impact in their current role and level while at Zapier.\n\nFor more information on Zapierโ€™s Total Rewards please click here.\n \nHow to Apply\n\n\nAt Zapier, we believe that diverse perspectives and experiences make us better, which is why we have a non-standard application process designed to promote inclusion and equity. This helps speed things up by letting us get to know you and your skillset a bit better right out of the gate. Please be sure to answer each question; the resume and CV fields are optional.\n\nAfter you apply, you are going to hear back from usโ€”even if we donโ€™t see an immediate fit with our team. In fact, throughout the process, we strive to never go more than seven days without letting you know the status of your application. Zapier will consider all qualified applicants, including those with criminal histories, consistent with applicable laws.\n\nZapier is committed to inclusion. As part of this commitment, Zapier welcomes applications from individuals with disabilities and will work to provide reasonable accommodations. If reasonable accommodations are needed to participate in the job application or interview process, please contact [email protected].\n\nApplication Deadline: The anticipated application window is 30 days from the date job is posted, unless the number of applicants requires it to close sooner or later, or if the position is filled.\n\nEven though weโ€™re an all-remote company, we still need to be thoughtful about where we have Zapiens working. Check out this resource for a list of countries where we currently cannot have Zapiens permanently working.\n\n#LI-Remote\n \n\n#Salary and compensation\n No salary data published by company so we estimated salary based on similar jobs related to Python, Education, Cloud and Senior jobs that are similar:\n\n $52,500 — $85,000/year\n

Global Fishing Watch is hiring a
Remote Machine Learning Engineer Sensing

\nBackground: Global Fishing Watch is an international, non-profit organization committed to advancing ocean governance through increased transparency. We create and publicly share knowledge about human activity at sea to enable fair and sustainable use of our ocean. Founded in 2015 through a collaboration between Oceana, SkyTruth, and Google, GFW became an independent non-profit organization in 2017. Using cutting-edge technology, we create and publicly share map visualizations, data and analysis tools to enable scientific research and drive a transformation in how we manage our ocean. By 2030, we aim to monitor and map all commercial activity at sea, including all industrial fishing vessels, small-scale fishing activity, all large non-fishing vessels, and all fixed infrastructure such as aquaculture and oil rigs. We also plan to work with intergovernmental organizations and 30 governments around the globe to promote the adoption of transparency more widely and publicly share ocean data to drive better management of marine resources.\n\nThe Position\n\nThe Research and Innovation team at Global Fishing Watch (GFW) connects data science and machine learning experts with the scientific community to produce new datasets, publish impactful research, and empower others to use our data. This team harnesses satellite technology, machine learning, and big data to shed light on some of the most pressing issues facing the ocean.\n\nWe are now working to map the global footprint of commercial activity at sea, including the activity of all ocean-going vessels and fixed infrastructure. This work involves combining deep learning and data fusion techniques with petabytes of satellite imagery (radar and optical), and billions of GPS positions from vessels, mostly from the Automatic Identification System (AIS) and Vessel Monitoring Systems.\n\nThe Machine Learning Engineer will assist with large data pipelines of satellite imagery and help build computer vision models to detect and classify maritime objects in imagery data. The initial focus will be on vessel detection in high-resolution (3 m) PlanetScope optical imagery from Planet Labs, leveraging an existing model architecture developed for Sentinel-2. Subsequent work includes implementing new models to expand the detection capability to offshore infrastructure using new satellite imagery sources. The candidate will also collaborate closely with other members of the Research and Innovation team to correlate detected vessels (position, time and length) to vessels tracked by AIS. Finally, the candidate will work closely with the GFW Engineering and Product teams to ensure solutions are compatible and scalable within our cloud infrastructure. \n\nThe incumbent will gain experience working with leading researchers in the field and will interface daily with GFWโ€™s team of data scientists and machine learning experts. They will develop further technical skills in programming, big data, and cloud computing while working for a globally diverse and fully distributed organization. The successful candidate will be organized and excited to help Global Fishing Watch develop strong partnerships and cutting-edge research. \n\nPrincipal Duties and Responsibilities\n\nModel development for small object detection\n\n\n* Design, train, and evaluate computer vision models for object detection in satellite imagery, with an emphasis on vessel detection in optical imagery \n\n* Implement preprocessing pipelines to obtain imagery and prepare it for annotation and modelling \n\n* Devise annotation strategies and tools for labelling vessels and fixed infrastructure in satellite images\n\n* Improve our training datasets and build new training datasets for other human-made objects, potentially managing external annotation services\n\n\n\n\nAdditional tasks may include\n\n\n* Provide technical support to the senior machine learning engineer(s) responsible for developing and advancing other Global Fishing Watch models\n\n* Assist data fusion efforts to integrate detections from multiple sources (e.g. Sentinel-1 SAR and Sentinel-2 optical), accounting for the recall of each model, length of the objects, cloudiness, and image resolution, among others\n\n* Analyze large amounts of data from various sources, such as vessel tracking, identity, and satellite imagery to identify trends, anomalies, and insights\n\n* Ensure the integrity and accuracy of key data pipelines and research BigQuery tables \n\n* Maintain and improve internal Python tools, such as modules and template repositories, to assist with migrating research projects from proof-of-concepts to automated prototypes\n\n* Lead or support eventual research publications and technical blog posts\n\n\n\nCandidate description\n\nSkills you should have\n\n\n* Bachelor's degree and at least four years of professional experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, in physical/earth sciences or a related field\n\n* Demonstrated skills and experience with Python\n\n* Strong foundation in mathematics and statistics\n\n* Familiarity working with geospatial data\n\n* Demonstrated experience working with cloud compute platforms and virtualized environments\n\n* Self-motivated with a strong curiosity and desire to learn new skills\n\n* Willingness to take ownership of projects and communicate project updates\n\n* Written and verbal communication skills in English\n\n* Ability to work with a remote team and embrace Slack, Google Suite, Jira, Notion and other collaborative tools\n\n\n\n\nAlso great\n\n\n* Some experience with database query languages such as SQL\n\n* Demonstrated experience with computer vision models\n\n* Demonstrated experience with frameworks such as TensorFlow or PyTorch\n\n* Familiarity with containerization tools like Docker and execution of models inside them\n\n* An appreciation for the complexities and rewards of collaborating in a remote, global and inclusive environment\n\n* Experience engaging with academic researchers and the peer-review process\n\n* Awareness of ethical considerations related to privacy and bias in satellite imagery analysis\n\n\n\n\nThe successful candidate will meet most, but not necessarily all, of the criteria above. Although it is obviously helpful, we do not expect that you already have a deep knowledge of building models or our key programming languages; we do expect that you have the aptitude to develop these skills and knowledge, and that you are excited about revealing human activity across the global ocean using these tools. If you donโ€™t think you check all the boxes, but believe you have unique skills that make you a great fit for the role, we want to hear from you!\n\nAdditional Information\n\nReporting to: Senior Data Scientist / Senior Data Science Manager\n\nManages: NA\n\nLocation: Remote - we welcome candidates based in any country\n\nTerm: Permanent position\n\nFT/PT: Full-time\n\nRecruiting process\n\nA cover letter along with a CV will be requested to see how your experience and interest connect to the position. We expect the cover letter to explain details on how your skills, interests, and aspirations align with the role. If selected for consideration, the hiring process for this position will include a formal 45 minute interview with 2-3 staff followed by a 30 minute administrative screening by a Human Resources manager. Candidates advancing beyond this round will be asked to take a technical assessment. Lastly, an informal 30 minute call with 3-4 members of the Research and Innovation team will be held with finalists.\n\nPlease apply by January 26, 2024\n\nWorking Hours: Global Fishing Watch supports flexible working, so the pattern of hours may vary according to operational and personal needs. The position will be part of a global team spanning many different time zones and so the candidate should be able to accommodate semi-regular early/late meetings to be able to work effectively. Weekend work may be required on occasion. The post holder may be required to undertake regional and international travel. No overtime is payable.\n\nCompensation: A compensation range for this position is US$ 90,000-$110,000 for US-based employees - For applicants located outside of the US, the pay range will be adjusted to the country of hire. Compensation is commensurate with experience and will vary depending on the hired candidateโ€™s country of residence, in accordance with local laws and regulations. GFW offers pension/retirement, health and other benefits commensurate with similar level GFW employees in the country of employment. The position may be a GFW employee or consultant, depending on the country of residence  \n\nEqual opportunities: Global Fishing Watch is an equal opportunities employer. Global Fishing Watch is committed to promoting diversity and inclusion within our organization and in the greater ocean management and conservation community. We believe that diverse backgrounds, skills, knowledge, and viewpoints make us a stronger organization. Klue is hiring a
Remote Senior Backend Engineer

\nWeโ€™re a highly skilled team of software engineers who are building an awesome product and moving fast. We value people who take initiatives, and empower everyone at Klue to make a real change in the product or processes. \n\n\nWe are looking for Backend Engineers to work with our team to deliver high quality products in the most efficient way.\n\n\n๐Ÿ’กFAQ \n\n\nQ: Klue who?\nA: Weโ€™re Klue and from a technical perspective, Klueโ€™s mission is to descale huge amounts of data to the human level, so people can process it and make use of it. Klue is that trusted intermediary, right now itโ€™s proven for sales enablement, but tomorrow itโ€™s all teams enablement.\n\n\nQ: What level of experience are we looking for?\nA: Right now we are looking for senior level experienced Back-End Engineers. \n\n\nQ: What is our development team working on?\nA: As part of our backend team, we are concerned with data storage and retrieval and the infrastructure to enable that. Hereโ€™s what our development team is working on and the opportunity for motivated Software Engineers to dig into, alongside us:\n- Big Data - lots of data \n- Ingesting thousands of news articles, web pages, marketing and sales data points per day. The challenge is indexing them for a long period of time and making them searchable and ready for different analysis.\n- Expanding our Rails REST API and offering public APIs to enable integrations.\n- Architect infrastructure for a scalable, resilient and robust service. We are migrating from a monolith architecture to K8S-hosted microservices. \n\n\nQ: What is our current tech stack?\nA: Python (Flask), Ruby (Rails), PostgreSQL, Elasticsearch, Redis, GCP, AWS, Tensorflow, Keras, Docker, Kubernetes.\nWe code review all changes, continuously integrate, pay down technical debt, and aim for high automated test coverage. We love microservices and, while we mostly use Python, Ruby, Google Cloud Platform, Linux, JavaScript, and React, new services can be built using whatever tools make sense to get the job done and support our game-changing innovation.\n\n\nQ: Are you HYBRID FRIENDLY ๐Ÿคฉ ?\nA: YES! Our hub is in Vancouver, BC, and most of our engineering is located in PST. Ideally, this role would be located in a Canadian timezone. We currently have team members in a couple of other hubs across Canada (Toronto & Winnipeg) and other countries.\n\n\n\nQ: What skills do you bring? \n* Expertise in at least one of the general programming languages like Python, Ruby, Go, Rust, Javascript, or similar.\n* Expertise in relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL\n* Experience in designing REST APIs\n* Experience using NoSQL databases such as Elasticsearch or MongoDB is a plus\n* Experience using Docker, Kubernetes, AWS, GCP is a plus\n* Bonus if you have Data Engineering interest and experience; ETL Pipelines, Snowplow, Snowflake, Big Query Redshift, Airflow, or equivalent.\n\n\n\nQ: What motivates our current team right now?\n* The type of work. Challenging, stimulating and meaningful work. New and relevant tech stack. We know engineers/developers especially want to work on hard technical and innovative problems.\n* The inspiration from skilled and proven leaders.\n* Entrepreneurial fingerprints on what will be a future billion dollar company anchored in Canada.\n* Culture, team, and the work environment.\n* High degree of autonomy and accountability.\n* High degrees of transparency and high quality communication.\n\n\n\nQ: What are the people at Klue like?\n* Builders\n* Intellectually Curious\n* Ambitious\n* Objective Oriented\n* Check us out!\n\n\n\nQ: What about total compensation & benefits?\n* Benefits. We currently have extended health benefits starting on your 1st day.\n* Time off. Take what you need. We want the team to prioritize wellness and avoid burnout. Vacation usually falls into 3 categories: recharging, life-event, & keeping a work-life balance. Just ensure the required work gets done and clear it with your team in advance. You need to take at least two weeks off every year. The average Klue team member takes 2-4 weeks of PTO per year.\n\n\n\n\n$140,000 - $175,000 a yearWe gather compensation benchmarking data across the BC & Canadian Tech Industry and use that data to build a range for our current team and future talent. Your exact salary is determined by experience level, skill, capabilities, and internal pay parity.\nIf you feel like this role is a great fit and have questions about comp, get in touch and weโ€™re happy to discuss further. There is always an ongoing conversation around compensation.\n\n\nโฌ‡๏ธ โฌ‡๏ธ โฌ‡๏ธ โฌ‡๏ธ โฌ‡๏ธ\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLastly, we take potential into consideration. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted in lieu of the specifics listed above. If you know you have what it takes, even if thatโ€™s different from what weโ€™ve described, be sure to explain why in your application. Reach out and letโ€™s see if there is a home here for you now or in the future.\n\n\nWeโ€™ve made a commitment to support and contribute to a diverse environment; on our teams and in our community. Weโ€™re early in our journey; we've started employee led resource groups, committed to Pay Up For Progress, and use success profiles for roles instead of 'years of experience'. We continue to scale our efforts as Klue grows. Weโ€™re proud to be an equal opportunity employer and have dedicated that commitment to our current and future #kluecrew. During the interview process, please let us know if there is anything we need to make more accessible or accommodate to support you to be successful.\n\n\nAll interviews will be conducted via video calls. We work in a hybrid model of WFH (remote) and in-office. Weโ€™re excited to meet you and in the meantime, get to know us:\n\n\n ๐ŸŒˆ Pay Up For Progress & 50 - 30 Challenge & Klue Blog\nโœ…โœ… Win-Loss Acquisition (2023)\n๐Ÿ…ฐ๏ธ Series A (2020)\n๐Ÿ… Series B (2021)\n๐Ÿ† Culture, culture, culture! \n๐ŸŽง Winning as Women & Competitive Enablement Show\n๐Ÿ” Glassdoor\n๐Ÿ About Us\n๐Ÿฅ Twitter\n๐Ÿ“ธ Instagram\nโ˜•๏ธ LinkedIn\n๐Ÿฆ„ Wellfound (AngelList)  \n\n#Salary and compensation\n No salary data published by company so we estimated salary based on similar jobs related to Video, Education, Cloud, NoSQL, Ruby, API, Senior, Marketing, Sales, Engineer and Backend jobs that are similar:\n\n $60,000 — $105,000/year\n
