Radix DLT is hiring a Remote Senior Front End Engineer

#What is the job?\n\nNo matter how powerful and flexible you build a platform, at the end of the day it’s the tools you present to the user that define the experience. Radix is seeking a savvy UX expert to come build the experiences that will define the future of decentralized finance (DeFi).\n\nDeFi has turned out to be the killer app that is taking public distributed ledgers from niche products for speculators and hobbyists to projects of global economic significance, and with it has come a new paradigm for user interfaces. Authentication models, interoperability expectations, and the entire concept of user accounts are all undergoing dramatic changes; at Radix you’ll have the opportunity to define the way forward while working at the very cutting edge of a space undergoing furious growth.\n\nWorking from a series of end-to-end user scenarios, you will wireframe delightful user experiences and pitch your design to a team of brilliant folks who care very deeply about the end result. Next, you’ll work with artists and UI experts to produce a consumable design with appropriate fonts, colors and iconography, after which you’ll move on to implementation with a small team. You’ll be primarily focused on delivering the front-end, but expect a healthy dose of implementing the requisite services you will consume, as well.\n\n#What are we looking for?\n\nYou’re able to isolate the 90% case for user experiences. You think in terms of making the most common interactions effortless, rather than making anything possible.\nWhen discussing new capabilities, your first instinct is to think of the user story rather than the feature set.\nYou don’t get wedded to ideas. You’re not reluctant to throw prototypes away when something isn’t working.\nYou’re a confident coder who has built public-facing user interfaces in the past. You have some experience building REST services and/or WebSocket backends.\nYou’re intelligent and learn quickly. Absolutely no one at Radix winds up only doing what’s in their job description, and adaptability is essential.\n\n#What do you need?\n\n4+ years as a professional software engineer\n\nFluent in JavaScript and TypeScript\n\nFluent with React or Vue\n\nComfortable with Java or C#\n\nA love for all things crypto is a huge plus!\n\n#Who are we?\n\nAt Radix, we're a team of like-minded thinkers who have long been convinced that we're living in the earliest stages of a global financial revolution. This revolution is being fuelled by decentralized finance (or DeFi for short), which is enabling an assortment of pioneering developers and entrepreneurs to re-invent almost every financial product that is currently traded and invested in traditional markets, without requiring central authorities or siloed infrastructure. DeFi has captured a great deal of attention and investment in the crypto-aware niche, growing assets under management from $1 billion to $40 billion in less than a year. Impressive as its growth has been, its current market size isn't even a rounding error on the over $111 trillion held in traditional finance. We're focused on what it will take to go from billions to trillions.\n\nRadix went back to first principles to come up with the right technical solution—the first layer-one protocol built specifically for mainstream DeFi—and we have already tested out at over 1 million transactions per second. We're keenly aware that the need for an infinitely scalable platform is only one prerequisite among many for mass adoption, and we're also blazing new ground in the areas of purpose-built developer tools, user experiences, and regulatory integration.\n\nWe have forged a path deep into the future of what distributed ledger technology is going to look like and we need you to come and be part of the team that is making that happen right now. \n\n#Salary and compensation\n$70,000 — $120,000/year\n\n\n#Location\n🌏 Worldwide

Saga is hiring a Remote Software Engineer Fullstack

At [Saga](https://saga.so), we are looking for multiple Full Stack Engineers to join our Engineering team. We are a small (but growing) remote company building a platform to connect knowledge and give teams contextual information at a glance.\n\nWhat makes Saga different is the ability to author content while having an overview of any piece of information that might be relevant to your current work.\n\n### What working for our Engineering Team will be:\n\n* We will explore two core directions in the next year: 1) make Saga the best tool for teams to collaborate on knowledge creation; 2) integrate Saga with external tools to allow teams to have an overview of their extended knowledge.\n* No stone left unturned: as we’re a small team collaborating on every issue, expect to touch every part of the product at some point, from frontend to backend to scaling our infrastructure. This doesn’t mean you need to know it all already. Every team member brings in their unique expertise, and we all learn from each other.\n* Collaboration over individual contribution. We collaborate most of the time over video. This means pair programming and deciding as a group how to move forward with any issue. Every two weeks, we decide together what to focus on, then we tackle those problems together to completion.\n* Flexible working hours. We strive to work together as much as possible to increase our collective throughput, but you will be able to set your own schedule and adjust your hours depending on your needs.\n* You will face hard technical challenges. We need to scale our product to digest information of ever-increasing orders of magnitude while keeping the user experience as simple as it can be.\n* Customer-facing, always. We have communities on Discord, Slack, and Reddit, you will be able to assess directly user feedback and iterate on it.\nOpen-source. We support and actively contribute to open source libraries that power Saga. You will have a chance to work on software that will be used by the open-source community at large.\n\n### What we’re looking for:\n\n* You have experience with (or interest in) React, Typescript, Node.js. Optionally, you have experience with GraphQL, Postgres, Firebase.\n* Bonus points if you have experience with one of: indexing and search engines; managing infrastructure at scale; CRDTs, and real-time collaboration libraries.\n* You know how to start a project from scratch. You have built an impressive side project, led a project in your day job or at school or you have been a founder before.\n* You think product-first. You want to create something used and loved by millions and are careful about shipping with customers in mind.\n* You can use your communication skills to make remote work a joy. You will seldomly see your colleagues in person, therefore communication is key. We document everything we do, and strive to have an open communication culture.\n\n### What we offer in return:\n\n- Generous compensation and employee-friendly equity options in Saga\n- 25 days paid vacation days on top of public holidays in your country\n- Flexible working hours\n- Home office equipment\n- Team retreats every few months in beautiful locations around the world (depending on Covid situation)\n\nPlease note that benefits may vary by country. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask us.\n\n### Diversity and inclusion:\n\nWe think diversity makes any company the best company it can be. We believe different backgrounds mean different points of view that can make us stronger and more robust as a company. We welcome people who are not afraid to challenge assumptions. We all live in different countries, speak different languages, have been or still are immigrants ourselves. We all had unorthodox careers, before starting Saga.\n\nNo matter where you come from or what your background is, we want to hear from you! \n\nIf you have any disability that might impact the interview process, please let us know if there’s any way we can make it better for you! \n\n#Salary and compensation\n$60,000 — $80,000/year\n\n\n#Location\n🌏 Worldwide

\nJob title: Principal Engineer\n\nType: Remote, permanent, full-time position \n\nDo you have a soft spot for profitable companies with a meaningful, globally used and loved product? Would you like to work within a compact, super-capable team in a refreshing work environment? Would you like to work on an application that is changing the way we learn and communicate? Drops could be the place for you.\n\nAbout us:\nOur goal at Drops is to ensure effective language learning through a delightful, seamless, gamified experience. We strive to be the #1 app for vocabulary learning. Our app has been live on the App Store for 4 years, covering 43 languages, serving over 30 million users across the globe and has been featured on both the App Store (App of the Day) and Play Store (App of the Year in 2018). Drops has also been featured by TechCrunch, FastCo, Forbes, CNN, Bloomberg, VentureBeat and many, many more. In short, we’re a tiny but very powerful team spread (mostly) across Europe, achieving great things the remote way! In December 2020, Drops was acquired by Kahoot!, the world’s leading game-based learning platform\n\nCheck us out here: https://languagedrops.com\n\nAbout you:\nYou’ve been working within high growth product companies for some time now and have extensive engineering experience. Perhaps you were an early key team member that nursed a startup to technical success or you hit the ground running in an already successful startup and took them to the next engineering level! \n\nYou’re a no-nonsense person who’s comfortable implementing projects across the tech stack and have worked in tech leadership roles perhaps as a technical lead or a principal engineer. You’ve got a solid understanding of full stack development, comfortable working within the backend and ops tooling but also writing frontend code for both the browser and mobile client. You enjoy the challenge of solving internal technology hurdles while growing a product with millions of MAU.\n\nYou believe variety is the spice of life - In this role, you’ll be developing a complex app deployable to web and app stores, building internal automation infrastructure/tooling and working on dynamic language dictionaries. You’ll also be working on our fully serverless architecture from feature development to keeping our build times down and our availability in the 5 9’s category.\n\nDrops is a deliberately small, but super effective team. You’re naturally drawn to the fate of the products & driven to grow as an engineer rather than to manage people.\n\n\nThe role:\n\nYou’ll be a core part of the development team, working on both our main products (Drops, Droplets, Scripts & Visual Dictionary) and internal development challenges. This role isn’t about writing 10x more code or closing all the tech debt tickets possible, it’s about being a force multiplier, improving efficiency in the tooling, engineering team and product. You’ll be the grease between the engineering cogs!\n\nYou will:\n\nSupport of the production applications be it through feature development, bug fixing or scaling infrastructure/ops work\nWork with the CTO on the technical roadmap, vision and hands on work within areas of improvement\nCommunicate effectively to ensure that everyone is aligned with technical best practices and trends\nAssist in levelling up our engineers through individual talent development pipelines and recruitment drives\n\nWhat’d be different here:\n\nWe’re a small team. We’re optimising for impact, not for headcount. You’ll be carefully considering any tradeoff that would lead to increased complexity\nWe have strict linter rules and every pull request needs to be approved before it lands in master. We use the rebase workflow and we release a few times a week\nWe’re currently using a single programming language - TypeScript. There are however better placed technology for different jobs which we’d love explore\nWe’re using React + Redux to develop UI, on both mobile and the web and use selectors extensively\nOur backend is AWS, deployed multi-region to Lambda and using RDS for our DB. We use Buildkite and Bitrise for our CI\nWe are BIG on AB testing. We focus on releasing high impact projects and minimise noise\nWe’re doing things in a functional way, concentrating state, minimising side effects and making dependencies explicit. We’re sharing 98%+ of the code between Android, iOS and Web\nOur biggest challenge is (and will remain) managing the complexity of sharing a lot of code between different apps\n\nYou have:\n\nExtensive experience in software/product development within leadership roles\nExperience building apps in a functional environment (React/Native and serverless)\nExperience architecting and developing complex web or mobile apps\nExperience in scaling internal tooling, promoting development best practices and prioritising technical debt\nProject management experience (everyone manages projects at Drops)\nStrong verbal and written communication skills \nExperience working in a high growth environment\n\nDrops values clear, honest communication and transparency. It’s the linchpin of our culture, success and freedom. You’ll be involved in both high and low level decision making and available during European working hours (10AM - 6PM CET).\n\nBenefits:\n🌍 All the perks of remote working\n👥 An awesomely compact 20 person team\n🧠 Yearly educational allowance\n💪 Fitness allowance\n💻 High-end Apple hardware and ergonomic accessories\n🏖 36 days of holiday per year\n✈️ Quarterly team gathering somewhere in the world (Amsterdam, Iceland, Lisbon and Budapest were previous locations) \n\n#Salary and compensation\n$40,000 — $100,000/year\n\n\n#Location\n🌏 Worldwide

Here’s a summary of the role.\n\n—\n\n##Required skills:\n\n* Proficient in React\n* Proficiency with modern Javascript\n* Good knowledge of Typescript\n* Good knowledge of Redux\n* Good knowledge of modern CSS\n* Good grasp of Webpack\n* Good command of the English language\n\n###Bonus points for:\n\n* Having good knowledge of PHP\n* Experience with Mobx\n* Experience with PostCSS\n* Experience with SASS\n* Familiar with WordPress plugin/theme development\n\n\n##Why work with us?\n\nRemote jobs, especially related to React development, are in abundance right now and we know that.\n\nHere’s what we offer to all our team members, whether they are employees or freelancers, full-time or not.\n\n###Timezones aren’t an issue\n\nAlthough you may need to be around for a team call here and there, most of the time you’ll be able to work asynchronously at any time you want. If you’re a night owl, go for it. If you’re more of a morning person, that works too. Whether you’re in Europe or somewhere else around the world, we make timezones work for us by making sure that we can all be flexible and show up when it’s absolutely needed.\n\n###Learning more on the job\n\nWorking alongside Miguel will allow you to learn from him (and his many years of development experience) while he also learns from you. If there’s something that you don’t know how to do, that’s fine. We’ll help you to learn and apply it in your work. The required skills above aren’t really optional, but if you’re unsure about one or two, we’ll probably be able to make things work. The bonus skills would be great for you to know, but if not, they’re not a deal-breaker.\n\n—\n\n##Your role:\n\nYou will be responsible for the following:\n\n* Developing React browser apps using Typescript and PostCSS modules\n* Integrating React apps with a WordPress PHP backend via a REST API\n* Create extensible and reusable systems using Typescript\n* Creating Redux stores that React components interact with\n* Configuring a Webpack build pipeline with code splitting\n* Maintaining packages on npmjs.com\n* Potentially converting legacy SASS into PostCSS\n\nAside from working alongside Miguel, you’ll also work with me (Mark), the CEO, to ensure that the projects move along smoothly. Our team is very open with each other and we like to constantly improve our processes to make sure everyone can work comfortably and reach their highest potential.\n\nThis position is a full-time role and it will potentially involve you in multiple projects over time, both existing and new ones.\n\n##Who you are\n\nWho you are is very important to us. Apart from your skills as a React developer, we’re looking for someone who is willing to learn, is open to feedback, is willing to critique others’ work in a constructive manner, and is a reliable person. \n\n#Salary and compensation\n$30,000 — $40,000/year\n\n\n#Location\n🌏 Worldwide

Description\n\nDo you have a soft spot for profitable companies with a meaningful, globally used and loved product? Would you like to work within a compact, super-capable team in a refreshing work environment? Would you like to work on an application that is changing the way we learn and communicate? Drops could be the place for you.\n\nAbout us:\n\nOur goal at Drops is to ensure effective language learning through a delightful, seamless, gamified experience. We strive to be the #1 app for vocabulary learning. Our app has been live on the App Store for 4 years, covering 42 languages, serving over 27 million users across the globe and has been featured on both the App Store (App of the Day) and Play Store (App of the Year in 2018). Drops has also been featured by TechCrunch, FastCo, Forbes, CNN, Bloomberg, VentureBeat and many, many more. In short, we’re a tiny but very powerful team spread (mostly) across Europe, achieving great things the remote way! In December 2020, Drops was acquired by Kahoot!, the world’s leading game-based learning platform\n\nCheck us out here: https://languagedrops.com\n\nAbout you:\n\nYou’re a no-nonsense person, comfortable taking on a variety of projects who has been working within product companies and has extensive front-end development experience.\n\nYou’ve spent years working with React and have experience in React Native with a deep understanding of the internal workings be it working within the browser or a mobile client. You enjoy the challenge of growing a product from an (already) large user base to a larger one with tens of millions of MAU with all the complexities it comes with.\n\nYou are an advocate for static typing and prefer to use a minimal set of simple tools over a diverse range of complex ones.\n\nYou believe variety is the spice of life - In this role, you’ll be developing a complex app deployable to web and app stores, a static site generator, building internal automation infrastructure/tooling and contributing to our internal CMS. You could also be working on our fully serverless architecture on the backend if you feel comfortable doing so.\n\nDrops is a deliberately small, but super effective team. You’re naturally drawn to the fate of the products & driven to grow as an engineer rather than to manage people.\n\nThe role:\n\nYou’ll be a core part of the development team, working on both our main (Drops) and auxiliary products (Droplets, Visual Dictionary, Internal CMS tooling). Drops values clear, honest communication and transparency. It’s the linchpin of our culture, success and freedom. You’ll be involved in both high and low level decision making and are available during European working hours (10AM - 6PM CET). Remember, we’re looking for a missionary here rather than a mercenary.\n\nYou will:\n\nWork cross functionally with our lead designer / data analyst / engineers / project owner to define, scope, estimate and plan various aspects of the product.\nWork independently (and with other engineers!) to develop new web experiences\nSupport of production applications / sites that you’ve built or helped to build\nCommunicate effectively and often to ensure that everyone is aligned\nWhat’d be different here:\n\nWe’re a small team. We’re optimising for impact, not for headcount. You’ll be carefully considering any tradeoff that would lead to increased complexity\nWe’re using a single programming language - TypeScript. We have strict linter rules Every pull request needs to be approved before it lands in master. We use the rebase workflow and we release a few times a week\nWe’re using React + Redux to develop UI, on both mobile and the web. We use selectors extensively. Our backend is on AWS, deployed multi-region to Lambda and using RDS for our DB\nWe are BIG on AB testing. We focus on releasing high impact projects and minimise noise\nWe’re doing things in a functional way, concentrating state, minimising side effects and making dependencies explicit. We’re sharing 98%+ of the code between Android, iOS and Web\nWe automate where it has positive ROI\nOur biggest challenge is (and will remain) managing the complexity of sharing a lot of code between different apps\n\n\nRequirements\n\nYou have:\n\nAt least 5 years of experience in software (product) development\nAt least 2 years of experience in building apps with React or React Native with state management tools (redux, flux, etc)\nExperience architecting and developing complex web or mobile apps and static sites\nSome experience in understanding basic user funnels, and collaborating with support to resolve user-facing issues\nProject management experience (everyone manages projects at Drops)\nStrong verbal and written communication skills\nThe ability to work well cross-functionally\nExperienced in strongly typed languages\nBenefits\n\n\n\n🌍 All the perks of remote working\n👥 An awesomely compact 20 person team\n🧠 Yearly educational allowance\n💪 Fitness allowance\n💻 High-end Apple hardware and ergonomic accessories\n🏖 36 days of holiday per year\n✈️ Quarterly team gathering somewhere in the world (Amsterdam, Iceland, Lisbon and Budapest were previous locations) \n\n#Salary and compensation\n$40,000 — $90,000/year\n\n\n#Location\n🌏 Worldwide

**Your responsibilities**\n\nWe’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer to contribute to building our core product and help with ongoing maintenance.\n\n**Your qualifications**\n\n* **Ruby & Rails:** Extremely knowledgeable and proficient in both Ruby and Ruby on Rails. Our main application is a large and complex Ruby on Rails app and requires some deep knowledge to navigate efficiently. Given our small team size, we work with a monolithic application and only break off services when absolutely necessary to keep overhead low. We utilize rails views (ERB) when we can and use React when the UI calls for it. Note that we have a mini ruby project that we’d like to use to help in evaluating skill level.\n\n* **Javascript & React:** Solid understanding and ability to work in React with Redux. Some areas of our application involve complex React apps, backed by Redux state.\n\n* **Postgres & ActiveRecord:** History of working with Postgres and interfacing with Postgres through ActiveRecord. Being able to think about potential performance implications while working through projects is very helpful.\n\n* **Full Stack Focused:** We are a small team and our projects therefore involve working on both the frontend and backend feature set in parallel to complete projects. Having a generalist mentality is very helpful here.\n\n* **Testing:** Experience writing rspec tests as well as proven ability to be able to reason through what and when to test.\n\n* **Navigating & Internalizing Existing Codebases:** Proven history of jumping into existing, complex codebases and becoming productive. Independence and mindset is a key attribute here. While we anticipate there being a learning curve and assisting in that learning, the ability to just dive in and be able to figure things out independently is a huge help during the learning process.\n\n* **Debugging, Diagnosing & Investigating Issues:** A large part of the job includes investigating and diagnosing application bugs or customer issues. Proven ability to reason through these issues to diagnose problems, present some potential solutions, and convey these issues and solutions in a clear manner to our support team is important.\n\n* **Writing & Communication:** History of very explicit, clear, and detailed communication including pull requests, git commits, documentation, and general team interactions.\n\n* **GitHub:** Proficiency with Git, comfortable using GitHub as primary code and project management platform.\n\n* **Working Remotely:** Proficiency and experience with working remotely.\n\n* **English Proficiency:** Comfortable clearly and accurately presenting ideas and documenting work in writing (90% of work at Loomly happens asynchronously). \n\n#Salary and compensation\n$120,000 — $180,000/year\n\n\n#Location\n🌏 Worldwide

This job post is closed and the position is probably filled. Please do not apply.
We built Metabase because existing tools for business intelligence didn’t feel like things we wanted to use. We wanted faster, simpler ways to ask questions about data, and wanted to strip away the colder feel of most Enterprise software. Folks seemed to agree, and now Metabase is used daily by tens of thousands of companies to give people in all sorts of roles access to insights they wouldn’t have otherwise had. None of this could happen without our user interface and that’s where you come in. We’re looking for someone with strong product sensibilities, extraordinarily good frontend skills, and solid software engineering fundamentals to join our team to advance the state of the art in our product and our industry.\n\n*Why choose Metabase*\n- The problems we face are genuinely interesting and aren’t trivial. Data influences so much of our world but isn’t that easy to interact with or understand. You’ll make tools that people rely on for their real jobs.\n- You’ll get to work in open source and get feedback directly from users and customers out in the open.\n- The company is growing and so is the business. We’re adding new remote team members from around the world and improving our processes. It’s an exciting time and you can really have an impact on how things work here.\n- We’ve tried to design our work environment to fit into real life. Work is only one part of who you are, so we emphasize reasonable workdays and prefer planning and avoiding panic. People at Metabase have families, dogs, plants, and lives outside of work and we try to support that however we can.\\n\n*What we’re looking for*:\n- You **care about crafting delightful user experiences**. You like to write code to enable people to do something and you understand that details and things like copy matter. If your focus is only on code this might not be the best role for you.\n- Prior **experience shipping non-trivial apps using React + Redux (or equivalent)**. Our front end is written in React (surprise!), so you’ll need really strong React and JavaScript knowledge to build fast and thoughtful user interfaces.\n- You have experience **writing tests, giving good feedback on other people’s code**, and writing proposals for more complicated problems that are thoughtful and clear. As we’re a remote company (even outside of pandemics) **communication and clarity are really important**.\n- Due to the nature of what we work on, computer science-y problems come up frequently. We’re not picky about a specific degree or accolade, but you’ll be expected to **write fast and performant code** and deal with a fair bit of **data structure manipulation** regularly.\n- We like everyone to care about the nuts and bolts of how to make things look good, so you’ll be expected to use our style guide and if necessary write or update our CSS, **so comfort in CSS and familiarity with things like design systems and component libraries is a necessity**.\n- You’ve worked on a large and complex JavaScript project. Metabase is a big product and code base so the **ability to adapt existing code and integrate new code into established systems** is important and you should feel comfortable digging in.\n\n*Not essential, but nice to have*:\n- Knowledge and prior experience with data visualization (especially if it has involved dc.js and d3.js).\n- Previous contributions to open source (not a requirement, but a huge plus).\n- Either pre-existing knowledge or interest in learning some Clojure, the language much of the backend of our application is written in.\n\n*The types of problems you'd get to work on*:\n- Lightning fast interaction with data. Think things like letting people see all the orders that came in from a specific region by clicking directly on a custom map of their sales regions and then letting them filter that list visually by directly interacting with the data table - and all of this happening in a responsive and delightful way.\n- Augmenting visualizations. To allow for people to further institutional knowledge, build the feature to allow annotations directly on specific data points in a line chart, and then determine how to expose those when it makes sense across dashboards and the entire app.\n- Wayfinding. We want to make sure people don’t have to do work that’s already been done, so build new ways to surface important metrics or segments to the right users across Metabase.\n- Embedded analytics. We have customers who deliver analytics to their own users via our embed product. You’d get to tackle the problem of making sure those can match their own products visually and enable easier integration of the embeds into their own code.\n\n#Location\n🌏 Worldwide

# We're building the Data Platform of the Future\nJoin us if you want to rethink the way organizations interact with data. It's inspired by Docker and Git, so it feels familiar. And it's powered by PostgreSQL, so it works seamlessly with existing tools in the Postgres ecosystem. Use Splitgraph to package your data into self-contained\ndata images that you can share with other Splitgraph instances.\n\n## **Splitgraph Cloud**\n\nSplitgraph Cloud is a platform for data cataloging, integration and governance. We resent repetition and inefficiency, and we never hesitate to automate the things that cause us friction. Here's a sampling of the languages and tools we work with:\n\n- **[Python](https://www.python.org/) for the backend.** Our [core open source](https://www.github.com/splitgraph/splitgraph) tech is written in Python (with [a bit of C](https://github.com/splitgraph/Multicorn) to make it more interesting), as well as most of our backend code. The Python code powers everything from authentication routines to database migrations. We use the latest version and tools like [pytest](https://docs.pytest.org/en/stable/), [mypy](https://github.com/python/mypy) and [Poetry](https://python-poetry.org/) to help us write quality software.\n\n- **[TypeScript](https://www.typescriptlang.org/) for the web stack.** We use TypeScript throughout our web stack. On the frontend we use [React](https://reactjs.org/) with [next.js](https://nextjs.org/). For data fetching we use [apollo-client](https://www.apollographql.com/docs/react/) with fully-typed GraphQL queries auto-generated by [graphql-codegen](https://graphql-code-generator.com/) based on the schema that [Postgraphile](https://www.graphile.org/postgraphile) creates by introspecting the database.\n\n- [**PostgreSQL](https://www.postgresql.org/) for the database, because of course.** Splitgraph is a company built around Postgres, so of course we are going to use it for our own database. In fact, we actually have three databases. We have `auth-db` for storing sensitive data, `registry-db` which acts as a [Splitgraph peer](https://www.splitgraph.com/docs/publishing-data/push-data) so users can push Splitgraph images to it using [sgr](https://www.github.com/splitgraph/splitgraph), and `cloud-db` where we store the schemata that Postgraphile uses to autogenerate the GraphQL server.\n\n- [**PL/pgSQL](https://www.postgresql.org/docs/current/plpgsql.html) and [PL/Python](https://www.postgresql.org/docs/current/plpython.html) for stored procedures.** We define a lot of core business logic directly in the database as stored procedures, which are ultimately [exposed by Postgraphile as GraphQL endpoints](https://www.graphile.org/postgraphile/functions/). We find this to be a surprisingly productive way of developing, as it eliminates the need for manually maintaining an API layer between data and code. It presents challenges for testing and maintainability, but we've built tools to help with database migrations and rollbacks, and an end-to-end testing framework that exercises the database routines.\n\n- [**PostgREST](https://postgrest.org/en/v7.0.0/) for auto-generating a REST API for every repository.** We use this excellent library (written in [Haskell](https://www.haskell.org/)) to expose an [OpenAPI](https://github.com/OAI/OpenAPI-Specification)-compatible REST API for every repository on Splitgraph ([example](http://splitgraph.com/mildbyte/complex_dataset/latest/-/api-schema)).\n\n- **Lua ([luajit](https://luajit.org/luajit.html) 5.x), C, and [embedded Python](https://docs.python.org/3/extending/embedding.html) for scripting [PgBouncer](https://www.pgbouncer.org/).** Our main product, the "data delivery network", is a single SQL endpoint where users can query any data on Splitgraph. Really it's a layer of PgBouncer instances orchestrating temporary Postgres databases and proxying queries to them, where we load and cache the data necessary to respond to a query. We've added scripting capabilities to enable things like query rewriting, column masking, authentication, ACL, orchestration, firewalling, etc.\n\n- **[Docker](https://www.docker.com/) for packaging services.** Our CI pipeline builds every commit into about a dozen different Docker images, one for each of our services. A production instance of Splitgraph can be running over 60 different containers (including replicas).\n\n- **[Makefile](https://www.gnu.org/software/make/manual/make.html) and** [docker-compose](https://docs.docker.com/compose/) **for development.** We use [a highly optimized Makefile](https://www.splitgraph.com/blog/makefile) and `docker-compose` so that developers can easily spin-up a stack that mimics production in every way, while keeping it easy to hot reload, run tests, or add new services or configuration.\n\n- **[Nomad](https://www.nomadproject.io/) for deployment and [Terraform](https://www.terraform.io/) for provisioning.** We use Nomad to manage deployments and background tasks. Along with Terraform, we're able to spin up a Splitgraph cluster on AWS, GCP, Scaleway or Azure in just a few minutes.\n\n- **[Airflow](https://airflow.apache.org/) for job orchestration.** We use it to run and monitor jobs that maintain our catalog of [40,000 public datasets](https://www.splitgraph.com/blog/40k-sql-datasets), or ingest other public data into Splitgraph.\n\n- **[Grafana](https://grafana.com/), [Prometheus](https://prometheus.io/), [ElasticSearch](https://www.elastic.co/), and [Kibana](https://www.elastic.co/kibana) for monitoring and metrics.** We believe it's important to self-host fundamental infrastructure like our monitoring stack. We use this to keep tabs on important metrics and the health of all Splitgraph deployments.\n\n- **[Mattermost](https://mattermost.com/) for company chat.** We think it's absolutely bonkers to pay a company like Slack to hold your company communication hostage. That's why we self-host an instance of Mattermost for our internal chat. And of course, we can deploy it and update it with Terraform.\n\n- **[Matomo](https://matomo.org/) for web analytics.** We take privacy seriously, and we try to avoid including any third party scripts on our web pages (currently we include zero). We self-host our analytics because we don't want to share our user data with third parties.\n\n- **[Metabase](https://www.metabase.com/) and [Splitgraph](https://www.splitgraph.com) for BI and [dogfooding](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eating_your_own_dog_food)**. We use Metabase as a frontend to a Splitgraph instance that connects to Postgres (our internal databases), MySQL (Matomo's database), and ElasticSearch (where we store logs and DDN analytics). We use this as a chance to dogfood our software and produce fancy charts.\n\n- **The occasional best-of-breed SaaS services** **for organization.** As a privacy-conscious, independent-minded company, we try to avoid SaaS services as much as we can. But we still find ourselves unable to resist some of the better products out there. For organization we use tools like [Zoom](https://www.zoom.us) for video calls, [Miro](https://miro.com/) for brainstorming, [Notion](https://www.notion.so) for documentation (you're on it!), [Airtable for workflow management](https://airtable.com/), [PivotalTracker](https://www.pivotaltracker.com/) for ticketing, and [GitLab for dev-ops and CI](https://about.gitlab.com/).\n\n- **Other fun technologies** including [HAProxy](http://www.haproxy.org/), [OpenResty](https://openresty.org/en/), [Varnish](https://varnish-cache.org/), and bash. We don't touch them much because they do their job well and rarely break.\n\n# Life at Splitgraph\n**We are a young company building the initial team.** As an early contributor, you'll have a chance to shape our initial mission, growth and company values.\n\n**We think that remote work is the future**, and that's why we're building a remote-first organization. We chat on [Mattermost](https://mattermost.com/) and have video calls on Zoom. We brainstorm with [Miro](https://miro.com/) and organize with [Notion](https://www.notion.so).\n\n**We try not to take ourselves too seriously**, but we are goal-oriented with an ambitious mission.\n\n**We believe that as a small company, we can out-compete incumbents** by thinking from first principles about how organizations interact with data. We are very competitive.\n\n# Benefits\n- Fully remote\n\n- Flexible working hours\n\n- Generous compensation and equity package\n\n- Opportunity to make high-impact contributions to an agile team\n\n# How to Apply? \nThe world changed in 2020.\n\n\nCompanies across the globe had to figure out how to complete their workflows in a completely remote environment. For sales teams selling complex products, this was an especially difficult challenge due to the collaborative nature of high-performing sales teams.\n\n\nLuckily, we at Demoflow had already been building a gamechanging platform to redefine the way remote teams sell together. We have created a live sales workspace paired with Zoom to provide an amazing environment and experience to all remote sales professionals and their customers.\n\n\nWe quickly raised a seed round investment from prominent VC firms and companies including the Slack Fund, and we've spent the last year hitting the market quickly. Accordingly, we are building an incredible team of high-performing individuals who are ready to build a category-defining platform for this new remote selling economy.\n\n\nOur company culture is driven by a value-based framework where our clients’ success is ultimately our success. We foster employee growth and development, and always strive to promote from within. What do we expect in return? A partner who is willing to give it their all in our fast-moving, ever-evolving, recently funded startup.\n\n\nYou will ACTUALLY have a direct impact on the success of our company. The work you do today will help build the foundation of (y)our team in the near future. Also, we like hiking, motorcycles, skydiving, movies, memes, and much more. You don’t have to like those things too, but we encourage you to be interesting.\n\n\nSenior Full Stack Engineer\n\n\nAs a senior Full Stack Engineer you will design, develop, and deploy large, integral parts of the application. We have a pipeline of features that span all areas of the tech stack, so you should be excited about the possibility of having a big impact on the product. Ideally, you have experience running development processes and/or managing development teams. That won't be required immediately, but would be a big nice-to-have as we scale.\n\n\nThe role is ideal for an engineer with strong attention to detail and a high bar for quality. Demoflow users run demos worth hundreds of thousands of dollars to their companies, so bugs and crashes in critical workflows are not acceptable. Accordingly, the engineer should have experience with test-driven development and modern testing tools. This engineer will not only have the opportunity to build new product features, but also have the opportunity to help build an engineering team and mentor newer engineers in the future.\n\n\nDay in the life:\n\n\n* Architect, design, develop, and deploy features across the tech stack.\n\n* Monitor, edit, and scale our infrastructure\n\n* Write automated tests in all areas to ensure we can continue to iterate quickly\n\n* Evaluate third-party tools versus building features “in house” \n\n* Communicate daily progress with the rest of the engineering team\n\n* Interface with Sales and CS teams to ensure we are always working on the most important jobs each day\n\n* Present new ideas and respectfully debate those ideas with the team\n\n* Deliver and receive open, honest, and constructive feedback\n\n\n\n\nIdeal Qualifications\n\n\n* 4+ years production experience with Rails and React\n\n* Experience with AWS infrastructure\n\n* Excellent communication skills\n\n* Electron\n\n* GraphQL\n\n* Jest\n\n* NodeJS\n\n\n\n\nAdditional Information\n\n\nThe most important requirement is that you are ready to be challenged, learn, and grow every single day. We are moving incredibly quickly as we build a category-defining product. We operate with transparent communication, honest feedback, and a growth mindset. \n\n\nTo demonstrate your attention to detail, please include your favorite book and author in the header of your cover letter. Some of our favorite books are “The Power of Now” by Eckhart Tolle and “The Infinite Game” by Simon Sinek. \n\n\nDemoflow is an equal opportunity employer; we are focused on creating an inclusive environment and believe that diversity of all types is essential to our success. We encourage all to apply, and will choose you on the basis of qualifications and merit.\n\n#Location\n🌏 Likely worldwide
