Remote Software Engineer App Stores Backend

Summary\n\nThis is an exciting opportunity for an experienced software engineer passionate about open source software, Linux, and Web Services at scale. Come build a rewarding, meaningful career working with the best and brightest people in technology at Canonical, a growing international software company.\n\nCanonical's Store team develops and operates the backend services that power the Snap Store and Charmhub.io marketplaces. Our services are built primarily in Python, within a bit of Golang. If you have a passion for clean APIs, have a bias towards shipping and believe that tests are the key to higher velocity and reliability, you'll fit right in.\n\nWe have some exciting challenges ahead including continuing to scale our production architecture, expand the store backend to handle additional package types, and enhance our on-prem offering for IoT and Enterprise solutions.\nWhat youโ€™ll do\n\n\nCollaborate remotely with a globally distributed team.\n\nWrite clean web service APIs to support both CLI and web frontend clients, using Python (and optionally Golang).\n\nDesign and implement new features and enhancements from spec to production and ongoing operations at scale.\n\nReview code and technical designs produced by other engineers.\n\nDiscuss ideas and collaborate on finding good solutions.\n\nWork remotely with global travel 2 to 4 weeks for internal and external events.\n\n\n\nWho you are\n\n\nYou have demonstrated professional proficiency developing public-facing APIs and web applications using Python.\n\nYou have a broad technology base but favor backend code and infrastructure.\n\nYou know your way around relational and non-relational databases and can effectively design data models that perform well, and tune queries to access them.\n\nYou are comfortable with Ubuntu as a development and deployment platform.\n\nYou have demonstrated strong academic performance in Computer Science, STEM or similar degree.\n\nYou love technology and working with a diverse set of talented people.\n\nYou are curious, flexible, articulate, and accountable.\n\nYou value soft skills and are passionate, enterprising, thoughtful, and self-motivated.\n\n\n\nAbout Canonical\n\nCanonical is a growing, international software company that works with the open-source community to deliver Ubuntu -- the worldโ€™s #1 cloud operating system. Our mission is to realise the potential of free software in the lives of individuals and organisations. Our services are helping businesses worldwide to reduce costs, improve efficiency and enhance security with Ubuntu.  Canonical is a unique tech company - global, remote-first, open source, with 700 professionals across 50 countries - we want to be the worldโ€™s best, not biggest, global software company. With almost every team remote by default, Canonical sets the pace on the 21st-century digital workplace.\nWhat Canonical offers:\n\n\nWork from home\n\nLearning and development allowances\n\nCompetitive Salary\n\nAnnual compensation review\n\nRecognition rewards\n\nGenerous annual leave\n\nPaid maternity, paternity and sick leave\n\nPriority Pass for travel\n\nExposure to international business and technology\n\n\n\n\nWe are proud to foster a workplace free from discrimination. Diversity of experience, perspectives, and background create a better work environment and better products. Whatever your identity, we will give your application fair consideration.\n\n#LI-remote\n\n#stack \n\n#Salary and compensation\n No salary data published by company so we estimated salary based on similar jobs related to Design, Python, Travel, Cloud, Engineer and Backend jobs that are similar:\n\n $70,000 — $110,000/year\n

Weโ€™d never claim to be perfect, but weโ€™re working hard to listen to our people and improve each day.\n\n\nWe really want the people who work at Jane to love being here, so it's important that we start with a bit about what makes our company unique and try to be as transparent as possible. Our values also provide some insights into Jane and hopefully, youโ€™ll have a better idea if this might be the kind of company you want to be part of.\n\n\nBefore we were Jane, our Co-Founders were solving problems for their own clinics not realizing that a few years later, this team would grow to support tens of thousands of healthcare practices in more than 60 countries. Our platform is now helping to modernize the world of practice management software. We enable the likes of physiotherapists, mental health counsellors, chiropractors, and other allied health practitioners to run their practices in a digital-first way through features such as online booking, charting, scheduling, telehealth, and billing along with an evolving library of features. You can see more of them \nhere. Although weโ€™ve grown, still to this day, weโ€™re rooted in solving clinicsโ€™ problems and making sure we donโ€™t lose sight of Janeโ€™s vision.\n\n\nWe have remained profitable for the past seven years, weโ€™re product-led and growing organically (and responsibly) to the point where 85% of our customer growth is either from customer referrals or word of mouth. Growth like this is unique, especially in the world of SaaS, and it doesnโ€™t happen by chance. We have a brilliant team of over 400 Janers who are doing an amazing job of listening to our customers, building what they need, and providing industry-leading support. We pride ourselves on flexibility & autonomy, some of our team block out their calendars to pick up their children from school (and this is normal at Jane), and we even have a #kids channel in Slack. \n\n\nWeโ€™re not a clock-in clock-out system-type environment. With that being said, weโ€™re not going to paint the picture of a perfect environment either. Weโ€™re a company thatโ€™s scaling quickly, we have many moving parts, many of us are doing this for the first time and sometimes, we donโ€™t have processes in place or clear views which can require a lot of resourcefulness and a passion for problem-solving.\n\n\nWith all that to say, if youโ€™re looking for an environment where you can grow, stretch yourself, and work with some incredibly talented people on problems that are positively impacting people's lives, Jane could be the place for you.\n\n\nCompensation Expectations for the Role\n \nJaneโ€™s committed to paying our team members fairly, clearly, and above all, paying for growth. This role has a minimum annual salary of $117,100 and a maximum annual salary of $182,900. As you may have noticed, this salary range is quite large, and this is intentional to account for the growth someone will experience in the role throughout their time at Jane (i.e., from building the skills, to accomplished, to highly proficient, all the way to achieving excellence in the role). When hiring talented folks to join the Jane team, weโ€™ve found that new team members are best set up for success when hired with the expectation of being fully accomplished in the role, which for this role would reflect a salary between $139,000 to $146,300. It's also possible to join Jane at a salary above or below this, which would mean a salary below $139,000 which typically reflects someone who has all the potential to be fully accomplished in the role but doesn't yet possess all the skills required, while a salary above $146,300 is typically for individuals who are currently in this role at Jane and had the opportunity to make a significant positive impact on our customers, product and company with deep Jane knowledge. At Jane, we pay for growth, which means that youโ€™ll continue to have conversations about your career development with your manager and see your compensation grow over time as you build an amazing career with us.\n \nMore information on Jane's benefits package can be found here \n\n\nLearn more about Jane's approach to compensation here\n\n\n\nThe impact you could have...\n* Own and contribute to the technical direction that will shape the trajectory of the Payroll & Compensation Team\n* Coach and mentor others on the team \n* Collaborate with engineers, technical leaders and cross-functional groups to ship impactful features that directly impacts our customers and company metrics\n* Improve engineering standards, tooling and processes\n* Identify, scope, and lead large technical projects, laying the groundwork for early-stage product to iteratively evolve and scale, and taming complexity and shoring up reliability of existing systems\n* Make effective tradeoffs that consider business priorities, user experience, and a sustainable technical foundation\n* Contribute to the codebase as a hands-on engineer\n\n\n\nThe experience we feel we needโ€ฆ\n* Extensive experience in building scalable platforms\n* Strong understanding of development best practices, modern technologies, and design patterns and apply them to the development lifecycle for your team to improve the teamโ€™s codebase\n* Comfortable in Ruby on Rails, Java, C#, Python or Go, navigating codebases with different languages and tools\n* 5-8 years of experience shipping high quality products \n* Ability to work well cross-functionally and earn trust from co-workers at all levels\n* Experience mentoring and growing senior engineers as their technical leader\n* Have experience in ensuring great user experience and ease of use of features and products you build\n* Have experience with financial product companies and interest in financial products and markets (nice to have)\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAt Jane, weโ€™re committed to fostering an environment that allows you to come to work as your truest self. We believe itโ€™s important to actively recognize, embrace, and celebrate our differences in order to make Jane an inclusive, equitable, and diverse workplace. \n\n\nWe want to build a team of people who make conversations rich with perspective and experience. We are committed to listening to every voice in order to learn and grow because doing this will allow us to meet the needs of the diverse community of helpers that Jane serves. \n\n\nWe do not tolerate discrimination, prejudice, or oppressive isms of any kind.
