**Your responsibilities**\n\nWe’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer to contribute to building our core product and help with ongoing maintenance.\n\n**Your qualifications**\n\n* **Ruby & Rails:** Extremely knowledgeable and proficient in both Ruby and Ruby on Rails. Our main application is a large and complex Ruby on Rails app and requires some deep knowledge to navigate efficiently. Given our small team size, we work with a monolithic application and only break off services when absolutely necessary to keep overhead low. We utilize rails views (ERB) when we can and use React when the UI calls for it. Note that we have a mini ruby project that we’d like to use to help in evaluating skill level.\n\n* **Javascript & React:** Solid understanding and ability to work in React with Redux. Some areas of our application involve complex React apps, backed by Redux state.\n\n* **Postgres & ActiveRecord:** History of working with Postgres and interfacing with Postgres through ActiveRecord. Being able to think about potential performance implications while working through projects is very helpful.\n\n* **Full Stack Focused:** We are a small team and our projects therefore involve working on both the frontend and backend feature set in parallel to complete projects. Having a generalist mentality is very helpful here.\n\n* **Testing:** Experience writing rspec tests as well as proven ability to be able to reason through what and when to test.\n\n* **Navigating & Internalizing Existing Codebases:** Proven history of jumping into existing, complex codebases and becoming productive. Independence and mindset is a key attribute here. While we anticipate there being a learning curve and assisting in that learning, the ability to just dive in and be able to figure things out independently is a huge help during the learning process.\n\n* **Debugging, Diagnosing & Investigating Issues:** A large part of the job includes investigating and diagnosing application bugs or customer issues. Proven ability to reason through these issues to diagnose problems, present some potential solutions, and convey these issues and solutions in a clear manner to our support team is important.\n\n* **Writing & Communication:** History of very explicit, clear, and detailed communication including pull requests, git commits, documentation, and general team interactions.\n\n* **GitHub:** Proficiency with Git, comfortable using GitHub as primary code and project management platform.\n\n* **Working Remotely:** Proficiency and experience with working remotely.\n\n* **English Proficiency:** Comfortable clearly and accurately presenting ideas and documenting work in writing (90% of work at Loomly happens asynchronously). \n\n#Salary or Compensation\n$120,000 — $180,000/year\n\n\n#Location\n🌏 Worldwide

**We're building a new way to think and work with numbers.** \n\nCausal is a tool for performing calculations, visualising data, and communicating with numbers ([check it out](https://causal.app)). We take the good parts of spreadsheets and combine them with the good parts of programming, to make number-crunching fast, collaborative, and accessible to everyone. \n\nWe're a small team and well-funded by some great VCs ([Coatue](https://www.crunchbase.com/organization/coatue), [Passion Capital](https://www.passioncapital.com/)) and angel investors ([Naval Ravikant](https://twitter.com/naval), [Scott Belsky](https://twitter.com/scottbelsky), and many more) across the US and Europe.\n\n---\n\nWe're looking for a full-stack engineer to accelerate our product development. As one of our first hires, you'll play a significant role in setting the direction of Causal's product, company, and culture.\n\nOur product primarily consists of a web UI on the frontend and a computation engine on the backend. Causal needs a low floor and a high ceiling — it should be simple enough for anyone to get started with, but powerful enough for really complex use-cases.\n\nPerformance is paramount on both the frontend and backend.\n\nFamiliarity with out tech stack is requires (frontend: TypeScript/React, backend: TypeScript/Node/Go).\n\nPlease check out this [link](https://www.notion.so/causal/Full-stack-Engineer-421f869ab09e4307a9011550e3bacced) for more info. \n\n#Salary or Compensation\n$60,000 — $140,000/year\n\n\n#Location\n🌏 Worldwide

**Radical candor? More like radical gander, right?**\n\nOk, enough goose puns for the moment, but now that we’ve got your attention, allow us to tell you more about this company called GooseChase and why might you want to join us!\n\nYou love an app that makes you smile, right? Well our product is a lot of fun. And even though our origins are that of a humble scavenger hunt app, we’ve now evolved (hatched?) into a super-flexible platform used by millions to create all sorts of experiences! It’s all the best parts of a scavenger hunt, with a delightful twist to keep you coming back for more.\n\nWith all that fun and flexibility, we’ve been growing like crazy. For teachers in the classroom, we’re the new “TV cart”, aka the learning tool that students legitimately look forward to. For today’s workplaces, virtual or otherwise, we help the team connect with each other to the point where they want to come into (or logon) to work. And for local cities and towns, we bring families together in a way that truly builds a sense of community.\n\nBut we’re also unique in that we don’t have any investors and, as a result, are able to put our people before profit. Seriously. We have a profit sharing program specifically for this reason! It also means we grow at the pace we want to and put the time into making this the best possible place to work. When we do something, it’s because it’s the best thing for our team and our customers, no matter what. We’ve actually been fully remote from the very beginning, because we wanted our people to have the flexibility to live wherever and however they wanted!\n\n**So what exactly is this job?**\n\nIf you’re looking for impact & ownership, this is about as good as it gets. You’ll have the opportunity to take lead on our back-end tech stack going forward, charting our technical path, contributing to our product direction and helping shape the team as we grow!\n\nFrom a day to day perspective, you’ll be a core member of our cross-functional product development team, focused on both the game organizer and participant experiences. Within our product team, there are no silos or artificial barriers, meaning you’ll be working closely with other engineers and designers! Whatever will help give our customers the best experience possible!\n\nWe recognize building the best products requires using the best tools, so we empower our engineers through access to the best tools and hardware available to remove barriers and enable fast iterating, robust code deployments.\n\nIn terms of technologies, you’ll be working closely with our front-end engineers as well as developing our API and async task system which:\n\n* Is currently based on Django / TastyPie / Celery, with plans to migrate to a Node.js-based architecture (that’s where you come in!)\n* Stores data in Postgresql, with images & videos in S3\n* Utilizes redis and memcached for caching, session storage, and async task result storage\n* Runs on Linode, switching over shortly to our new kubernetes-based cluster\n* Powers our mobile applications and web-based game manager\n\nLooking at how we work, our methodologies are:\n* Continuous integration using CircleCI to empower developer autonomy and shorten development cycles\n* Agile, with two week sprint cycles\n* Daily async check-ins - stay connected to the team, but without zombie standups\n* Project management in Asana, with our “office” taking place on Slack & Zoom - we have a very strong gif game\n\n**How do you know if this might be for you?**\n\nAt GooseChase you’ll be working alongside a team of highly motivated, world-class engineers with tons of opportunities for learning, growth, and mentorship. Our product team works closely together, so we are extremely selective about who we hire to ensure the calibre of our engineering talent remains high. Be prepared to bring your ‘A’ game!\n\nWe understand that relevant experience comes in all shapes and sizes and the ability to do the job is all that matters. With that in mind, we aren’t going to put together a generic list of all the requirements that we’re looking for with this job, however, there are certain things we are looking for - specifically:\n\n* Have you been able to collaborate & communicate successfully with others in a cross-functional team?\n* Do you have very high standards for your work and desire to work with other talented people?\n* Have you succeeded at architecting and implementing APIs that have been used by lots of people?\n* Are you passionate about full stack development and the web ecosystem?\n* Do you bring a depth of expertise in security and performance best practices?\n* Are you experienced in developing production-grade web systems that are performant and fault-tolerant at scale?\n* Are you based in the GMT-4 to GMT-8 time zones (North America), so you can work closely with our distributed product team?\n* Can you get down with an uncomfortable amount of goose puns?\n\nOk the last one isn’t super work related, but we honestly do have a lot of goose puns. It’s one of our favourite parts of our culture!\n\nWe do things differently here. We’re all about fun, but also making an impact. We care deeply about working with amazing people, and have set up our company culture specifically for that - our compensation is competitive, our work environment is autonomous and collaborative, and our emphasis is on learning and growth. Put simply, it’s the type of company we actually want to work at ourselves!\n\nSo, this is us, standing in front of you, asking you to join us. \n\n#Location\nNorth America

We give them a unified SQL interface to query that data, a catalog to discover and share it, and tools to build/push/pull it.\n\n# Learn More About Us\n\n- Listen to our interview on the [Software Engineering Daily podcast](https://softwareengineeringdaily.com/2020/11/06/splitgraph-data-catalog-and-proxy-with-miles-richardson/)\n\n- Watch our co-founder Artjoms present [Splitgraph at the Bay Area ClickHouse meetup](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=44CDs7hJTho)\n\n- Read our HN/Reddit posts ([one](https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=24233948) [two](https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=23769420) [three](https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=23627066) [four](https://old.reddit.com/r/datasets/comments/icty0r/we_made_40k_open_government_datasets_queryable/))\n\n- [Read our blog](https://www.splitgraph.com/blog)\n\n- Read the slides from our early (2018) presentations: ["Docker for Data"](https://www.slideshare.net/splitgraph/splitgraph-docker-for-data-119112722), [AHL Meetup](https://www.slideshare.net/splitgraph/splitgraph-ahl-talk)\n\n- [Follow us on Twitter](https://ww.twitter.com/splitgraph)\n\n- [Find us on GitHub](https://www.github.com/splitgraph)\n\n- [Chat with us in our community Discord](https://discord.gg/eFEFRKm)\n\n- Explore the [public data catalog](https://www.splitgraph.com/explore) where we index 40k+ datasets\n\n# How We Work: What's our stack look like?\n\nWe prioritize developer experience and productivity. We resent repetition and inefficiency, and we never hesitate to automate the things that cause us friction. Here's a sampling of the languages and tools we work with:\n\n- **[Python](https://www.python.org/) for the backend.** Our [core open source](https://www.github.com/splitgraph/splitgraph) tech is written in Python (with [a bit of C](https://github.com/splitgraph/Multicorn) to make it more interesting), as well as most of our backend code. The Python code powers everything from authentication routines to database migrations. We use the latest version and tools like [pytest](https://docs.pytest.org/en/stable/), [mypy](https://github.com/python/mypy) and [Poetry](https://python-poetry.org/) to help us write quality software.\n\n- **[TypeScript](https://www.typescriptlang.org/) for the web stack.** We use TypeScript throughout our web stack. On the frontend we use [React](https://reactjs.org/) with [next.js](https://nextjs.org/). For data fetching we use [apollo-client](https://www.apollographql.com/docs/react/) with fully-typed GraphQL queries auto-generated by [graphql-codegen](https://graphql-code-generator.com/) based on the schema that [Postgraphile](https://www.graphile.org/postgraphile) creates by introspecting the database.\n\n- [**PostgreSQL](https://www.postgresql.org/) for the database, because of course.** Splitgraph is a company built around Postgres, so of course we are going to use it for our own database. In fact, we actually have three databases. We have `auth-db` for storing sensitive data, `registry-db` which acts as a [Splitgraph peer](https://www.splitgraph.com/docs/publishing-data/push-data) so users can push Splitgraph images to it using [sgr](https://www.github.com/splitgraph/splitgraph), and `cloud-db` where we store the schemata that Postgraphile uses to autogenerate the GraphQL server.\n\n- [**PL/pgSQL](https://www.postgresql.org/docs/current/plpgsql.html) and [PL/Python](https://www.postgresql.org/docs/current/plpython.html) for stored procedures.** We define a lot of core business logic directly in the database as stored procedures, which are ultimately [exposed by Postgraphile as GraphQL endpoints](https://www.graphile.org/postgraphile/functions/). We find this to be a surprisingly productive way of developing, as it eliminates the need for manually maintaining an API layer between data and code. It presents challenges for testing and maintainability, but we've built tools to help with database migrations and rollbacks, and an end-to-end testing framework that exercises the database routines.\n\n- [**PostgREST](https://postgrest.org/en/v7.0.0/) for auto-generating a REST API for every repository.** We use this excellent library (written in [Haskell](https://www.haskell.org/)) to expose an [OpenAPI](https://github.com/OAI/OpenAPI-Specification)-compatible REST API for every repository on Splitgraph ([example](http://splitgraph.com/mildbyte/complex_dataset/latest/-/api-schema)).\n\n- **Lua ([luajit](https://luajit.org/luajit.html) 5.x), C, and [embedded Python](https://docs.python.org/3/extending/embedding.html) for scripting [PgBouncer](https://www.pgbouncer.org/).** Our main product, the "data delivery network", is a single SQL endpoint where users can query any data on Splitgraph. Really it's a layer of PgBouncer instances orchestrating temporary Postgres databases and proxying queries to them, where we load and cache the data necessary to respond to a query. We've added scripting capabilities to enable things like query rewriting, column masking, authentication, ACL, orchestration, firewalling, etc.\n\n- **[Docker](https://www.docker.com/) for packaging services.** Our CI pipeline builds every commit into about a dozen different Docker images, one for each of our services. A production instance of Splitgraph can be running over 60 different containers (including replicas).\n\n- **[Makefile](https://www.gnu.org/software/make/manual/make.html) and** [docker-compose](https://docs.docker.com/compose/) **for development.** We use [a highly optimized Makefile](https://www.splitgraph.com/blog/makefile) and `docker-compose` so that developers can easily spin-up a stack that mimics production in every way, while keeping it easy to hot reload, run tests, or add new services or configuration.\n\n- **[Nomad](https://www.nomadproject.io/) for deployment and [Terraform](https://www.terraform.io/) for provisioning.** We use Nomad to manage deployments and background tasks. Along with Terraform, we're able to spin up a Splitgraph cluster on AWS, GCP, Scaleway or Azure in just a few minutes.\n\n- **[Airflow](https://airflow.apache.org/) for job orchestration.** We use it to run and monitor jobs that maintain our catalog of [40,000 public datasets](https://www.splitgraph.com/blog/40k-sql-datasets), or ingest other public data into Splitgraph.\n\n- **[Grafana](https://grafana.com/), [Prometheus](https://prometheus.io/), [ElasticSearch](https://www.elastic.co/), and [Kibana](https://www.elastic.co/kibana) for monitoring and metrics.** We believe it's important to self-host fundamental infrastructure like our monitoring stack. We use this to keep tabs on important metrics and the health of all Splitgraph deployments.\n\n- **[Mattermost](https://mattermost.com/) for company chat.** We think it's absolutely bonkers to pay a company like Slack to hold your company communication hostage. That's why we self-host an instance of Mattermost for our internal chat. And of course, we can deploy it and update it with Terraform.\n\n- **[Matomo](https://matomo.org/) for web analytics.** We take privacy seriously, and we try to avoid including any third party scripts on our web pages (currently we include zero). We self-host our analytics because we don't want to share our user data with third parties.\n\n- **[Metabase](https://www.metabase.com/) and [Splitgraph](https://www.splitgraph.com) for BI and [dogfooding](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eating_your_own_dog_food)**. We use Metabase as a frontend to a Splitgraph instance that connects to Postgres (our internal databases), MySQL (Matomo's database), and ElasticSearch (where we store logs and DDN analytics). We use this as a chance to dogfood our software and produce fancy charts.\n\n- **The occasional best-of-breed SaaS services** **for organization.** As a privacy-conscious, independent-minded company, we try to avoid SaaS services as much as we can. But we still find ourselves unable to resist some of the better products out there. For organization we use tools like [Zoom](https://www.zoom.us) for video calls, [Miro](https://miro.com/) for brainstorming, [Notion](https://www.notion.so) for documentation (you're on it!), [Airtable for workflow management](https://airtable.com/), [PivotalTracker](https://www.pivotaltracker.com/) for ticketing, and [GitLab for dev-ops and CI](https://about.gitlab.com/).\n\n- **Other fun technologies** including [HAProxy](http://www.haproxy.org/), [OpenResty](https://openresty.org/en/), [Varnish](https://varnish-cache.org/), and bash. We don't touch them much because they do their job well and rarely break.\n\n# Life at Splitgraph\n**We are a young company building the initial team.** As an early contributor, you'll have a chance to shape our initial mission, growth and company values.\n\n**We think that remote work is the future**, and that's why we're building a remote-first organization. We chat on [Mattermost](https://mattermost.com/) and have video calls on Zoom. We brainstorm with [Miro](https://miro.com/) and organize with [Notion](https://www.notion.so).\n\n**We try not to take ourselves too seriously**, but we are goal-oriented with an ambitious mission.\n\n**We believe that as a small company, we can out-compete incumbents** by thinking from first principles about how organizations interact with data. We are very competitive.\n\n# Benefits\n- Fully remote\n\n- Flexible working hours\n\n- Generous compensation and equity package\n\n- Opportunity to make high-impact contributions to an agile team\n\n# How to Apply? Questions?\n[**Complete the job application**](https://4o99daw6ffu.typeform.com/to/ePkNQiDp)\n\nIf you have any questions or concerns, feel free to email us at [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected])\n\n#Location\n🌏 Worldwide

## What We Do\n\nOverleaf is a startup and social enterprise that builds modern collaborative authoring tools for scientists — like Google Docs for Science. We have over six million registered users from around the world. Our primary product is an online, real-time collaborative editor for papers, theses, technical reports and other documents written in the LaTeX markup language.\n\n## Who We Are\n\nOverleaf was founded by two mathematicians who were inspired by their own experiences in academia to create a better solution for scientific collaboration and communication. Now we are a team of about forty with fifteen developers, based mainly in and around the UK and in the US. We were recently recognised as one of the [UK's top 100 fastest growing businesses](https://www.overleaf.com/blog/overleaf-recognized-as-one-of-the-uks-top-100-fastest-growing-businesses) and as the [Best SaaS for Nonprofits or Education](https://www.overleaf.com/blog/overleaf-named-2020-saas-awards-winner) in the 2020 SaaS Awards Program.\n\n## Our Tech\n\nOverleaf is based on open source software, and most of our product code is itself open source. You can find it on GitHub: https://github.com/overleaf/overleaf (note: most activity is in the repos linked from there).\n\nWe run a mainly Node.js back end using MongoDB, PostgreSQL and Redis. We use a microservices architecture, with about a dozen services. On the front end, we mainly use Angular v1 and are incrementally migrating to React.\n\nWe're hosted on Google Cloud Platform using Google Kubernetes Engine. We use Docker to manage our development environments. We support continuous delivery and typically deploy at least a few times a day (less on Fridays).\n\n## How We Work\n\nOverleaf is remote-first --- all founders and staff work remotely. We also have an office in Farringdon for those in the London area, and when the pandemic settles down we'll again get the whole team together in London a few times a year for face-to-face time.\n\nWe encourage flexible working. Our core hours are 2pm–5pm UK time, during which our development teams have 10–15 minute daily standup calls. We have few standing meetings for developers, but we do many smaller video or voice calls for pairing or within teams.\n\nWe always collect user feedback to inform our work. We have UX professionals on our team, and we run many surveys and user interviews.\n\nWe organize our work with Kanban. We use GitHub pull requests for each feature with code review to share knowledge and best practices (and catch bugs). We test thoroughly with automated unit and acceptance tests, supported by continuous integration (CI). We're also fans of linting to minimise bike-shedding (and to catch bugs).\n\n## About This Role\n\nWe plan to add two developers to our team, both with a backend focus. Experience with some of Node.js, MongoDB, PostgreSQL, Redis or Kubernetes is desirable. We are also particularly interested in meeting you if:\n\n- you'd be interested in taking up a team lead role in the not too distant future, or\n- you have experience with setting up data pipelines for web analytics and/or business intelligence.\n\nKey projects on our road map this year include:\n\n- Improve our B2C conversion metrics and monitoring — we'll be setting up a new web analytics system to generate insights we need while continuing to respect user privacy\n- Consolidate our two project history systems — we currently have two from our integration with ShareLaTeX in 2017, each with hundreds of TB to be consolidated\n- Make our project PDF preview faster and less bandwidth hungry — we have prototypes showing big wins that now need productionizing\n\nHere are some examples of projects (large and small) we've recently completed:\n\n- https://www.overleaf.com/blog/new-feature-file-outline-is-now-available-on-overleaf\n- https://www.overleaf.com/blog/new-feature-transfer-project-ownership-on-overleaf\n- https://www.overleaf.com/blog/523-a-data-driven-approach-to-latex-autocomplete\n\nIn the longer term, we are planning projects around improved collaboration features for teams, improvements to our rich text mode, and more.\n\n## How We Hire\n\nThe stages in our hiring process are typically:\n\n1. We will aim to update you on the status of your application within 14 days from when we receive it.\n\n2. We'll follow up by email (or sometimes schedule a phone call) with any questions we have about your application, usually around logistics, your ambitions and your expectations about the role.\n\n3. We'll schedule a more in-depth interview, which is typically two hours long. The first hour is discussion, and the second hour is technical. For the technical, you'll have the option of either completing a homework assignment, which requires about one hour of your time before the interview, or solving a problem in the interview, if you prefer. The problems are practical in nature (no fizz-buzz or reversing linked lists), and you can use Google, man pages, etc., and ask us questions.\n\n4. We'll make an offer. We usually interview in batches, so there may be a short delay while we interview other candidates, but we will try to keep you informed throughout the process.\n\nIf you have a deadline, please let us know in your application, and we will try to be accommodating.\n\n## Requirements\n\nWe require that you:\n\n- have a minimum of 2–3 years of relevant experience (we aren't taking on more new graduates at the moment).\n- will work for us full time (or nearly full time).\n- will usually be available in our core hours, 2pm–5pm UK time.\n\nApplicants in the UK, Europe, US and Canada are preferred.\n\nExperience with the technologies we use is always a plus, but you don't need to know them all; your ability to learn is much more important to us.\n\n## Benefits\n\n- Remote and flexible working.\n- Salary £40k–£75k per year depending on experience.\n- You would join a small, dedicated and growing team.\n- We're substantially (around 80%) open source, so your work will often be on open source code.\n- We're backed by Bethnal Green Ventures (https://bethnalgreenventures.com/) and Digital Science (https://www.digital-science.com/), through which we're part of a wider community of startups in science, health and ed-tech.\n- Our London office is shared with several other Digital Science companies, so there's lots of interesting people to meet, and clubs and sports activities outside of work.\n- We get everyone together in London for team meetings several times a year for valuable face-to-face time (pandemic permitting).\n- You can pick your own equipment. MacBook Pro? Lenovo ThinkPad? Notebook and pen? However you like to work, we'll provide what you need.\n- We provide a training budget; many of our developers choose to attend relevant industry conferences or buy training materials.\n- We run quarterly [remote hackathons](https://www.overleaf.com/blog/overleafs-remote-hackathon-revisited-one-year) to keep learning and experimenting.\n- We run a weekly internal seminar series with short talks from staff about their work or personal projects, new technologies and techniques.\n\nWe are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity at our company. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status. \n\n#Salary or Compensation\n$55,000 — $105,000/year\n\n\n#Location\nUS, Canada, UK, Europe

# Summary\nReady to lead and grow a team of developers while executing the company vision? We need a hands-on Software Development Lead who can grow our team from 3 to 15 developers by the end of next year, while having a direct impact on the growth and future of the organization. You’ll be able to work remotely from anywhere in North America and we’re looking for someone to get started right away with growing the team!\n\n# About Us:\nAt Funnelytics, we provide the ultimate tool for marketers. We’re working to build the gold standard in marketing analytics products. We believe that analytics should be an interactive experience, rather than a simple visualization of charts and graphs. Analytics products with the same dry metrics are all too common. Our mission is to provide a marketing analytics platform that intuitively opens up new insights that you would only otherwise get from a team of data scientists.\n\nWe’re based out of Toronto, Canada, but you’re free to live anywhere in North America. There are 15 of us and we’re a pretty fun crew. We’re proud and excited about the work we’re doing. We can’t wait to meet you, share our passion, and bring you aboard!\n\n# The Job Overview:\nWe are looking for someone ASAP! You will play an instrumental role in reshaping the way in which businesses and marketers think about web analytics. We’ve thrown away traditional charts and graphs to start from scratch to build an immersive analytics platform.\n\nYou’ll take charge of growing out our engineering group from a modest team of three developers to a team of eight, and ensuring that those teams are able to do their best work under your leadership.\n\n# What You’ll Be Doing:\nYou’ll be leading the vision of the development and growing the team.\n\nYou will be personally responsible for leading a team of 3 incredible developers. We are expecting rapid growth over the next 6 to 12 months and need you to build out your driven and qualified development team to 8 members by early 2021.\n\nWe need a ‘Hands-on Developer’ who has no problem jumping in and learning the system. \n\n# Day to Day:\n\n**Setting up processes**\n* Driving Agile development methodology\n* Working within JIRA\n* Building integrations with multiple marketing platforms\n* Work closely with the Product Team for improvements\n* Development with Node and Redshift\n* Interviewing and hiring decisions on which highly-qualified engineers to bring on board\n\n**Responsibilities and Projects:\n**\n* Expand an engineering team focused on building the future of analytics.\n* Coach a team of engineers to remove roadblocks and implement features to the best of their abilities.\n* Implement processes to keep the engineering team performing at their peak.\n* Take the lead in new initiatives to increase security, monitoring, and testing.\n* Create and enforce timelines for development projects.\n* Construct an execution plan to reach goals set out in our technical vision.\n* Keep stakeholders informed on the progress of projects and the status of engineering.\n* Create strategies to reduce technical debt while continuing to deliver value to customers.\n* Create KPIs to maintain accountability.\n**Remember this role is 100% Remote in North America!\n**\n# An Ideal Candidate Looks Like:\n* Experience with Node, Redshift, Snowflake, Vertica, Clickhouse or any other column-oriented database (customer-facing analytics)\n* Experience leading development teams. If you have had past experience of growing out a small dev team one to two times, that’s great!\n* Experience in building out analytics products.\n* Strong communicator, both written and verbally.\n* No egos or micro-management. We want someone who just wants to build out the best software and take pride in their work.\n* It’s preferable if you’ve worked in small companies, but we’re open to backgrounds in large companies as well.\n\n# Tech Stack:\n**Essentials:\n**\n* Node\n* Redshift, Snowflake, Vertica, Clickhouse or any other column-oriented database (customer-facing analytics)\n\n**Nice to haves:\n**\n* Postgres\n* Mongo\n* Redis\n* Ember\nThis is a more backend focused role but frontend experience is helpful.\n\n# What else?\nCultural competency is important to us. We are looking for someone who is adaptable and can easily embrace change in a fast-moving environment. We are all team players and we encourage everyone to be transparent and communicate. We are problem solvers and always support each other to do the best work we can. Our company provides a culture where our team members can evolve professionally and personally while taking a sense of pride and ownership in everything they do.\n\n**So, what do you think? We want to hear from you! Our team is excited about adding a Principal Developer to our team and look forward to meeting you. **\n\n#Location\nNorth America

InReach is changing how VC in Europe works, for good. Through data, software and Machine Learning, we are building an in-house platform to help us find, reach-out to and invest in early-stage European startups, regardless of the city or country they’re based in.\n\nWe are looking for a back-end developer to continue the development of InReach’s data services. This involves: \n* Cleaning / wrangling / merging / processing the data on companies and founders from across Europe\n* Building data pipelines with the Machine Learning engineers\n* Building APIs to support front-end investment product used by the Investment team (named DIG)\n\nThis role will involve working across the stack. From DevOps (Terraform) to web scraping and Machine Learning (Python) all the way to data pipelines and web-services (Java) and getting stuck into the front-end (Javascript). It’s a great opportunity to hone your skills and master some new ones.\n\nIt is important to us that candidates be passionate about helping entrepreneurs and startups. This is our bread-and-butter and we want you to be involved.\n\nInReach is a remote-first employer and we are looking to this hire to help us become an exceptional place to work for remote employees. Whether you are in the office or remote, we are looking for people with excellent written and verbal communication skills.\n\n### Background Reading:\n* [InReach Ventures, the 'AI-powered' European VC, closes new €53M fund](https://techcrunch.com/2019/02/11/inreach-ventures-the-ai-powered-european-vc-closes-new-e53m-fund/?guccounter=1)\n* [The Full-Stack Venture Capital](https://medium.com/entrepreneurship-at-work/the-full-stack-venture-capital-8a5cffe4d71)\n* [Roberto Bonanzinga starts InReach Ventures with DIG platform](https://www.businessinsider.com/roberto-bonanzinga-starts-inreach-ventures-with-dig-platform-2015-11?r=US&IR=T)\n* [Exceptional Communication Guidelines](https://www.craft.do/s/Isrjt4KaHMPQ)\n\n## Responsibilities\n\n* Creatively and quickly coming up with effective solutions to undefined problems\n* Choosing technology that is modern but not hype-driven\n* Developing features and tests quickly with good, clean code\n* Being part of the wider development team, reviewing code and participating in architecture from across the stack\n* Communicating exceptionally, both asynchronously (written) and synchronously (spoken)\n* Helping to shape InReach as a remote-first organization\n\n## Technologies\n\nGiven that this position touches so much of the stack, it will be difficult for a candidate that only has experience in Python or only in Java to be successful in being effective quickly. While we expect the candidate to be stronger in one or the other, some professional exposure is required.\n\nIn addition to the programming skills and the ability to write well designed and tested code, infrastructure within modern cloud platforms and sound architectural reasoning are expected.\n\nNone of these are a prerequisite, but help:\n* Functional Programming\n* Reactive Streams (RxJava2)\n* Terraform\n* Postgres\n* ElasticSearch\n* SQS\n* Dynamodb\n* AWS Lambda\n* Docker\n* Dropwizard\n* Maven\n* Pipenv\n* Javascript\n* React\n* NodeJS\n\n## Interview Process\n* 15m video chat with Ben, CTO to find out more about InReach and the role\n* 2h data pipeline technical test (Python)\n* 2h web service technical test (Java)\n* 30m architectural discussion with Ben, talking through the work you did\n* 2h interview with the different team members from across InReach. We’re a small company so it’s important we see how we’ll all work together - not just the tech team!\n \n\n#Salary or Compensation\n$55,000 — $70,000/year\n\n\n#Location\nUK or Italy

As a senior backend developer at [Baremetrics](https://baremetrics.com), you will be working on a variety of projects from payment provider integrations and data ingestion to metrics processing and user-facing features.\n\nWe're a very small team with a huge bias for simplicity. Baremetrics has grown to its current state with just 2 backend developers. You'll be working on projects, large and small, from inception to completion.\n\nWe approach our work with focus and purpose in an environment of trust and autonomy. When we work on a difficult problem, we take the time to think through and research the possible solutions and then write an implementation plan. Sometimes that may also include some tinkering.\n\n## The way we work\nYou are free to work from anywhere and choose your own hours. Much of our product team are located in Europe, but the team as a whole is spread across five countries and many timezones. Our general cadence is two-week product sprints followed by a bug week. Bug weeks can also include chores, refactoring or customer support.\n\n## The stack you’ll use\nAll of our code lives in a mono repo and all of our backend code is written in Ruby. Postgres is our main database and our frontend is moving towards a single-page application written in Vue and Typescript. You should feel comfortable exploring and learning new technologies and languages.\n\n## The work to be done\nWe have interesting engineering challenges and exciting plans for the future of the product, much of which revolves around processing and finding insights in large data sets.\n\nHere are some examples of the type of problems you would work on:\n\n* Rewrite our Stripe integration from scratch\n* Investigate metric discrepancies reported by customers and fix them at the root cause\n* Work on making customer segmentation 10,000x faster\n* Investigate and fix a race condition in our Messaging Code\n* Implement a new user-facing product feature\n* Develop tooling to surface business insights across many terabytes of data\n\n## About you\nYou have a strong track record of shipping great products using Ruby. You understand the language in depth. You should also be experienced in SQL query optimization and designing efficient schemas, as that's a big part of our core business logic.\n\nWe expect you to be self-motivated and self-directed, a strong individual contributor and true "manager of one". Almost all of our communication happens in writing and while we do sometimes pair program, what we don't do is "meetings". It is important that you are a good writer and effective communicator.\n\n## The hiring process\nThere are a few stages in the hiring process. We know how nerve racking applying for a new job can be and we want to make it as smooth and enjoyable as possible. We're looking to make an offer to someone no later than September 30.\n\n**Stage 1: Initial application & questions** — You’ll send in your basic info and answer a few questions about your experience and skills. If we believe you’d be a good fit based on that initial application, we’ll dive in with a few more questions to learn more about you, what you want out of your career and how we can help you be successful.\n\n**Stage 2: Test Project** — We’ll do a test project to learn about how you approach problem solving as well as to get a feel for your coding style. The will take up to a few hours to complete.\n\n**Stage 3: Interviews** — You’ll having a video interview with someone on the engineering team to talk through your test project. You’ll then do a final video interview with our CEO to talk company culture, benefits, perks and the future of the company as well as to answer any questions you have.\n\n**Stage 4: Job Offer** — After consulting a few of your references, we’ll make an offer and hope that you’ll join the team!\n\n## Benefits\n* Work from anywhere (we're 100% remote)\n* [Minimum vacation policy](https://baremetrics.com/blog/unlimited-minimum-vacation)\n* Salary range of $100k-140k\n* Bonus structure\n* Flexible work hours\n* Full health, vision & dental insurance for you and your family\n* Annual company meetups\n* Kindle Paperwhite + Unlimited Books\n* Monthly "remote stipend" that you can use for anything\n\n## About Baremetrics\nBaremetrics is a business analytics & insights company. UBIO has built the Automation Cloud, a platform which can robotically perform any online task such as reserving a hotel for your trip to New York, booking a flight to get there and applying for a credit card to pay for it all. We are working towards a SaaS based solution for engineers to automate website actions and we need your help!\n\nWe are looking for an optimistic and resilient engineer who has developed markedly complex services in Javascript or Typescript. You would have been involved with platforms and services that perform and scale well on the cloud and you also enjoy discussing complex engineering topics. We are a small Engineering team, relying on tools like GitHub and Slack to keep us communicating efficiently. We also rely on architectural principles and guidelines to ensure our colleagues can pick up our work in the future, if necessary. \n\n# Requirements\n## You have considerable technical experience in:\n\n- One or more programming languages (5 years is about right)\n- Server side JavaScript/TypeScript with Node.js\n- Developing applications for the cloud (Google Cloud in our case)\n- Storage: Redis, SQL, MongoDB\n\n## And it would be great if you also have:\n\n- Experience with Prometheus and Grafana or other monitoring systems\n- Interest in Serverless functions (Google Cloud Functions) and containers (Google Cloud Run)\n- Exposure to Dependency Injection\n- Experience with micro-services and Message Bus architectures\n- Appetite for Golang\n- Exposure to PCI-DSS compliance\n\n## This is what you'll be doing:\n\n### Drafting and developing prototypes\n- If significant unknowns exist or risks need to be reduced, you’ll frame your thoughts into a prototype doc and develop a prototype in code or research to resolve those. You may need to develop a few prototypes before we can move on to implementation.\n\n### Getting features production ready\n- Once prototypes are out of the way, you’ll write tests, refactor and expand on your initial prototypes to get your code ready for deployment.\n\n### Rub virtual shoulders with Product\n- Engineering works very close to our Product function. You will frequently liaise with a product manager to ensure business requirements are current and to realign on delivery expectations.\n\n### Leveraging and evolving our standards\n- We have defined a handful of standards, including a framework for developing micro-services. - We have also defined architecture guidelines to more clearly inform our future. We will count on you to advance those by adhering to them and providing feedback for improvements.\n\n### Avoiding pitfalls and learning from failures\n- You will bring experience to the team and will help us avoid difficult paths, but you understand that experiencing failures is a building block for success. Your resilience will be key to navigate these situations.\n\n#### Communicating your needs clearly and responsibly\n- With the support of your Lead Engineer, you will be able to state clearly what is needed to deliver features in a timely fashion. You will do that with a good level of written and spoken English.\n\n### Owning Service Lifecycle\n\n- Be able to debug and provide support for services you ship in all environments.\n- Be able to communicate effective metrics for the code you write, be aware of its performance and how we can observe them inline with SLOs.\n\n### Positively adding to our culture\n\n- You have a positive outlook in life and you can also have fun away from technology.\n- You are able to focus on how to overcome obstacles, rather than being overly impeded by limitations and dependencies.\n\n#Location\nUk/eu

## TL;DR\nIf you are an experienced developer with a love for the craft, please join our Startup vialytics. We have developed a unique mobile + web application to locate and analyze road damages. You will join the Team remotely for ~ 12 months with possible relocation to our Head Quarter in Stuttgart Germany after.\n\nStill with us? Let's go over the details then!\n\n## What is vialytics?\nOur mission is to help cities better manage their roads. A city spends around 20-30% of it's total budget on road infrastructure. A gain in efficiency here results in more money that the city can spend on things like education, health, refugee help and other social services.\n\nTo increase Road Maintenance efficiency, we have developed a Smartphone App that can be placed in any municipal vehicle (Garbage Truck, Road Sweeper etc.). On every drive the App collects image data of the road surface. Our cloud based AI then detects common damages like cracks and potholes on these images. We visualize the results in our proprietary web based Geoinformationsystem (GIS). From the GIS our clients can plan their maintenance work based on almost real-time data.\n\nSo far we are working successfully with around 80 cities in Germany and are launching projects in many other European countries too.\n\n## The Team\nWe are a Team of 20 people from 8 different countries. The development team has four members at the moment that we would like to expand to five or six. Our Team-Lead Tim (the chillest Russian you will ever meet) will gladly mentor you on reaching your personal development goals while providing a safe environment to work in.\n\nOur philosophy to development is that we are a Team of self-responsible individuals that achieve quality results on there own schedule. We strive to develop thoroughly, even if it takes more time, so we don't create any technical debt. We feel that this is the only way a small Team can produce great software.\n\nWe fully support remote work. All communication is documented digitally in Jira Issues for future reference. We have daily remote meetings to get the whole Team so you truly get the full picture of what is going on in the company. We also hold regular digital after-work meetups to hang out and have a beer or spin up our own Minecraft server.\n\n\n\n\n# Responsibilities\n ## Your Job\nMost of your work will be backend related. We work with Postgres, MongoDB and Firestore as our main databases. Most of our data is geo-referenced and needs to be organized efficiently to support rendering of big maps for larger clients. \n\nWe follow the micro-service principle, so you will likely be adding new services and APIs in either Node.js (+ TypeScript) or GoLang (our new weapon of choice).\n\nWe also have a React.js Frontend that needs constant evolution. At the core of it there is a Mapbox GL map view that displays all of our geo-referenced data. Keeping high performance even for large clients is key. \n\n# Requirements\n## Your Profile\nYou will be working in a small Team, so flexibility is very important to us. If you are picky about programming languages or frameworks, this is not the place for you. We go with whatever language and framework that fits the problem. At the same time we do not expect years of experience with all of the tools we use. If you know how to code we trust your ability to adapt to whatever we might use for a project.\n\nA positive and resilient mindset is very important to us. We strive to create a relaxed working atmosphere and only impose deadlines where absolutely necessary. However we are a fast moving Startup, so if pressure rises you need to stay calm and keep focused on quality results.\n\n## What are we looking for?\n- You have at least 3 years of professional experience in programming\n- You have experience with JavaScript and NodeJs, you understand how JavaScript engine works\n- You have good experience with any statically typed language\n- You're up for mentoring coworkers and can give in-depth, productive feedback during code reviews.\n- You can communicate clearly in English, both written and verbally.\n- Your work hours have some overlap with EU business hours (we require your local timezone to be within CET +/- 3h) \n\n#Salary or Compensation\n$30,000/year\n\n\n#Location\n🇪🇺 EU-only
