**Your responsibilities**\n\nWe’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer to contribute to building our core product and help with ongoing maintenance.\n\n**Your qualifications**\n\n* **Ruby & Rails:** Extremely knowledgeable and proficient in both Ruby and Ruby on Rails. Our main application is a large and complex Ruby on Rails app and requires some deep knowledge to navigate efficiently. Given our small team size, we work with a monolithic application and only break off services when absolutely necessary to keep overhead low. We utilize rails views (ERB) when we can and use React when the UI calls for it. Note that we have a mini ruby project that we’d like to use to help in evaluating skill level.\n\n* **Javascript & React:** Solid understanding and ability to work in React with Redux. Some areas of our application involve complex React apps, backed by Redux state.\n\n* **Postgres & ActiveRecord:** History of working with Postgres and interfacing with Postgres through ActiveRecord. Being able to think about potential performance implications while working through projects is very helpful.\n\n* **Full Stack Focused:** We are a small team and our projects therefore involve working on both the frontend and backend feature set in parallel to complete projects. Having a generalist mentality is very helpful here.\n\n* **Testing:** Experience writing rspec tests as well as proven ability to be able to reason through what and when to test.\n\n* **Navigating & Internalizing Existing Codebases:** Proven history of jumping into existing, complex codebases and becoming productive. Independence and mindset is a key attribute here. While we anticipate there being a learning curve and assisting in that learning, the ability to just dive in and be able to figure things out independently is a huge help during the learning process.\n\n* **Debugging, Diagnosing & Investigating Issues:** A large part of the job includes investigating and diagnosing application bugs or customer issues. Proven ability to reason through these issues to diagnose problems, present some potential solutions, and convey these issues and solutions in a clear manner to our support team is important.\n\n* **Writing & Communication:** History of very explicit, clear, and detailed communication including pull requests, git commits, documentation, and general team interactions.\n\n* **GitHub:** Proficiency with Git, comfortable using GitHub as primary code and project management platform.\n\n* **Working Remotely:** Proficiency and experience with working remotely.\n\n* **English Proficiency:** Comfortable clearly and accurately presenting ideas and documenting work in writing (90% of work at Loomly happens asynchronously). \n\n#Salary\n$120,000 — $180,000\n\n\n#Location\n🌏 Worldwide

**We're building a new way to think and work with numbers.** \n\nCausal is a tool for performing calculations, visualising data, and communicating with numbers ([check it out](https://causal.app)). We take the good parts of spreadsheets and combine them with the good parts of programming, to make number-crunching fast, collaborative, and accessible to everyone. \n\nWe're a small team and well-funded by some great VCs ([Coatue](https://www.crunchbase.com/organization/coatue), [Passion Capital](https://www.passioncapital.com/)) and angel investors ([Naval Ravikant](https://twitter.com/naval), [Scott Belsky](https://twitter.com/scottbelsky), and many more) across the US and Europe.\n\n---\n\nWe're looking for a full-stack engineer to accelerate our product development. As one of our first hires, you'll play a significant role in setting the direction of Causal's product, company, and culture.\n\nOur product primarily consists of a web UI on the frontend and a computation engine on the backend. Causal needs a low floor and a high ceiling — it should be simple enough for anyone to get started with, but powerful enough for really complex use-cases.\n\nPerformance is paramount on both the frontend and backend.\n\nFamiliarity with out tech stack is requires (frontend: TypeScript/React, backend: TypeScript/Node/Go).\n\nPlease check out this [link](https://www.notion.so/causal/Full-stack-Engineer-421f869ab09e4307a9011550e3bacced) for more info. \n\n#Salary\n$60,000 — $140,000\n\n\n#Location\n🌏 Worldwide

This month's remote Postgres + Senior jobs

**Radical candor? More like radical gander, right?**\n\nOk, enough goose puns for the moment, but now that we’ve got your attention, allow us to tell you more about this company called GooseChase and why might you want to join us!\n\nYou love an app that makes you smile, right? Well our product is a lot of fun. And even though our origins are that of a humble scavenger hunt app, we’ve now evolved (hatched?) into a super-flexible platform used by millions to create all sorts of experiences! It’s all the best parts of a scavenger hunt, with a delightful twist to keep you coming back for more.\n\nWith all that fun and flexibility, we’ve been growing like crazy. For teachers in the classroom, we’re the new “TV cart”, aka the learning tool that students legitimately look forward to. For today’s workplaces, virtual or otherwise, we help the team connect with each other to the point where they want to come into (or logon) to work. And for local cities and towns, we bring families together in a way that truly builds a sense of community.\n\nBut we’re also unique in that we don’t have any investors and, as a result, are able to put our people before profit. Seriously. We have a profit sharing program specifically for this reason! It also means we grow at the pace we want to and put the time into making this the best possible place to work. When we do something, it’s because it’s the best thing for our team and our customers, no matter what. We’ve actually been fully remote from the very beginning, because we wanted our people to have the flexibility to live wherever and however they wanted!\n\n**So what exactly is this job?**\n\nIf you’re looking for impact & ownership, this is about as good as it gets. You’ll have the opportunity to take lead on our back-end tech stack going forward, charting our technical path, contributing to our product direction and helping shape the team as we grow!\n\nFrom a day to day perspective, you’ll be a core member of our cross-functional product development team, focused on both the game organizer and participant experiences. Within our product team, there are no silos or artificial barriers, meaning you’ll be working closely with other engineers and designers! Whatever will help give our customers the best experience possible!\n\nWe recognize building the best products requires using the best tools, so we empower our engineers through access to the best tools and hardware available to remove barriers and enable fast iterating, robust code deployments.\n\nIn terms of technologies, you’ll be working closely with our front-end engineers as well as developing our API and async task system which:\n\n* Is currently based on Django / TastyPie / Celery, with plans to migrate to a Node.js-based architecture (that’s where you come in!)\n* Stores data in Postgresql, with images & videos in S3\n* Utilizes redis and memcached for caching, session storage, and async task result storage\n* Runs on Linode, switching over shortly to our new kubernetes-based cluster\n* Powers our mobile applications and web-based game manager\n\nLooking at how we work, our methodologies are:\n* Continuous integration using CircleCI to empower developer autonomy and shorten development cycles\n* Agile, with two week sprint cycles\n* Daily async check-ins - stay connected to the team, but without zombie standups\n* Project management in Asana, with our “office” taking place on Slack & Zoom - we have a very strong gif game\n\n**How do you know if this might be for you?**\n\nAt GooseChase you’ll be working alongside a team of highly motivated, world-class engineers with tons of opportunities for learning, growth, and mentorship. Our product team works closely together, so we are extremely selective about who we hire to ensure the calibre of our engineering talent remains high. Be prepared to bring your ‘A’ game!\n\nWe understand that relevant experience comes in all shapes and sizes and the ability to do the job is all that matters. With that in mind, we aren’t going to put together a generic list of all the requirements that we’re looking for with this job, however, there are certain things we are looking for - specifically:\n\n* Have you been able to collaborate & communicate successfully with others in a cross-functional team?\n* Do you have very high standards for your work and desire to work with other talented people?\n* Have you succeeded at architecting and implementing APIs that have been used by lots of people?\n* Are you passionate about full stack development and the web ecosystem?\n* Do you bring a depth of expertise in security and performance best practices?\n* Are you experienced in developing production-grade web systems that are performant and fault-tolerant at scale?\n* Are you based in the GMT-4 to GMT-8 time zones (North America), so you can work closely with our distributed product team?\n* Can you get down with an uncomfortable amount of goose puns?\n\nOk the last one isn’t super work related, but we honestly do have a lot of goose puns. It’s one of our favourite parts of our culture!\n\nWe do things differently here. We’re all about fun, but also making an impact. We care deeply about working with amazing people, and have set up our company culture specifically for that - our compensation is competitive, our work environment is autonomous and collaborative, and our emphasis is on learning and growth. Put simply, it’s the type of company we actually want to work at ourselves!\n\nSo, this is us, standing in front of you, asking you to join us. \n\n#Location\nNorth America

# We're building the Data Platform of the Future\nJoin us if you want to rethink the way organizations interact with data. We are a **developer-first company**, committed to building around open protocols and delivering the best experience possible for data consumers and publishers.\n\nSplitgraph is a **seed-stage, venture-funded startup hiring its initial team**. The two co-founders are looking to grow the team to five or six people. This is an opportunity to make a big impact on an agile team while working closely with the\nfounders.\n\nSplitgraph is a **remote-first organization**. The founders are based in the UK, and the company is incorporated in both USA and UK. Candidates are welcome to apply from any geography. We want to work with the most talented, thoughtful and productive engineers in the world.\n# Open Positions\n**Data Engineers welcome!** The job titles have "Software Engineer" in them, but at Splitgraph there's a lot of overlap \nbetween data and software engineering. We welcome candidates from all engineering backgrounds.\n\n[Senior Software Engineer - Backend (mainly Python)](https://www.notion.so/splitgraph/Senior-Software-Engineer-Backend-2a2f9e278ba347069bf2566950857250)\n\n[Senior Software Engineer - Frontend (mainly TypeScript)](https://www.notion.so/splitgraph/Senior-Software-Engineer-Frontend-6342cd76b0df483a9fd2ab6818070456)\n\n→ [**Apply to Job**](https://4o99daw6ffu.typeform.com/to/ePkNQiDp) ← (same form for both positions)\n\n# What is Splitgraph?\n## **Open Source Toolkit**\n\n[Our open-source product, sgr,](https://www.github.com/splitgraph/splitgraph) is a tool for building, versioning and querying reproducible datasets. It's inspired by Docker and Git, so it feels familiar. And it's powered by PostgreSQL, so it works seamlessly with existing tools in the Postgres ecosystem. Use Splitgraph to package your data into self-contained\ndata images that you can share with other Splitgraph instances.\n\n## **Splitgraph Cloud**\n\nSplitgraph Cloud is a platform for data cataloging, integration and governance. The user can upload data, connect live databases, or "push" versioned snapshots to it. We give them a unified SQL interface to query that data, a catalog to discover and share it, and tools to build/push/pull it.\n\n# Learn More About Us\n\n- Listen to our interview on the [Software Engineering Daily podcast](https://softwareengineeringdaily.com/2020/11/06/splitgraph-data-catalog-and-proxy-with-miles-richardson/)\n\n- Watch our co-founder Artjoms present [Splitgraph at the Bay Area ClickHouse meetup](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=44CDs7hJTho)\n\n- Read our HN/Reddit posts ([one](https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=24233948) [two](https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=23769420) [three](https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=23627066) [four](https://old.reddit.com/r/datasets/comments/icty0r/we_made_40k_open_government_datasets_queryable/))\n\n- [Read our blog](https://www.splitgraph.com/blog)\n\n- Read the slides from our early (2018) presentations: ["Docker for Data"](https://www.slideshare.net/splitgraph/splitgraph-docker-for-data-119112722), [AHL Meetup](https://www.slideshare.net/splitgraph/splitgraph-ahl-talk)\n\n- [Follow us on Twitter](https://ww.twitter.com/splitgraph)\n\n- [Find us on GitHub](https://www.github.com/splitgraph)\n\n- [Chat with us in our community Discord](https://discord.gg/eFEFRKm)\n\n- Explore the [public data catalog](https://www.splitgraph.com/explore) where we index 40k+ datasets\n\n# How We Work: What's our stack look like?\n\nWe prioritize developer experience and productivity. We resent repetition and inefficiency, and we never hesitate to automate the things that cause us friction. Here's a sampling of the languages and tools we work with:\n\n- **[Python](https://www.python.org/) for the backend.** Our [core open source](https://www.github.com/splitgraph/splitgraph) tech is written in Python (with [a bit of C](https://github.com/splitgraph/Multicorn) to make it more interesting), as well as most of our backend code. The Python code powers everything from authentication routines to database migrations. We use the latest version and tools like [pytest](https://docs.pytest.org/en/stable/), [mypy](https://github.com/python/mypy) and [Poetry](https://python-poetry.org/) to help us write quality software.\n\n- **[TypeScript](https://www.typescriptlang.org/) for the web stack.** We use TypeScript throughout our web stack. On the frontend we use [React](https://reactjs.org/) with [next.js](https://nextjs.org/). For data fetching we use [apollo-client](https://www.apollographql.com/docs/react/) with fully-typed GraphQL queries auto-generated by [graphql-codegen](https://graphql-code-generator.com/) based on the schema that [Postgraphile](https://www.graphile.org/postgraphile) creates by introspecting the database.\n\n- [**PostgreSQL](https://www.postgresql.org/) for the database, because of course.** Splitgraph is a company built around Postgres, so of course we are going to use it for our own database. In fact, we actually have three databases. We have `auth-db` for storing sensitive data, `registry-db` which acts as a [Splitgraph peer](https://www.splitgraph.com/docs/publishing-data/push-data) so users can push Splitgraph images to it using [sgr](https://www.github.com/splitgraph/splitgraph), and `cloud-db` where we store the schemata that Postgraphile uses to autogenerate the GraphQL server.\n\n- [**PL/pgSQL](https://www.postgresql.org/docs/current/plpgsql.html) and [PL/Python](https://www.postgresql.org/docs/current/plpython.html) for stored procedures.** We define a lot of core business logic directly in the database as stored procedures, which are ultimately [exposed by Postgraphile as GraphQL endpoints](https://www.graphile.org/postgraphile/functions/). We find this to be a surprisingly productive way of developing, as it eliminates the need for manually maintaining an API layer between data and code. It presents challenges for testing and maintainability, but we've built tools to help with database migrations and rollbacks, and an end-to-end testing framework that exercises the database routines.\n\n- [**PostgREST](https://postgrest.org/en/v7.0.0/) for auto-generating a REST API for every repository.** We use this excellent library (written in [Haskell](https://www.haskell.org/)) to expose an [OpenAPI](https://github.com/OAI/OpenAPI-Specification)-compatible REST API for every repository on Splitgraph ([example](http://splitgraph.com/mildbyte/complex_dataset/latest/-/api-schema)).\n\n- **Lua ([luajit](https://luajit.org/luajit.html) 5.x), C, and [embedded Python](https://docs.python.org/3/extending/embedding.html) for scripting [PgBouncer](https://www.pgbouncer.org/).** Our main product, the "data delivery network", is a single SQL endpoint where users can query any data on Splitgraph. Really it's a layer of PgBouncer instances orchestrating temporary Postgres databases and proxying queries to them, where we load and cache the data necessary to respond to a query. We've added scripting capabilities to enable things like query rewriting, column masking, authentication, ACL, orchestration, firewalling, etc.\n\n- **[Docker](https://www.docker.com/) for packaging services.** Our CI pipeline builds every commit into about a dozen different Docker images, one for each of our services. A production instance of Splitgraph can be running over 60 different containers (including replicas).\n\n- **[Makefile](https://www.gnu.org/software/make/manual/make.html) and** [docker-compose](https://docs.docker.com/compose/) **for development.** We use [a highly optimized Makefile](https://www.splitgraph.com/blog/makefile) and `docker-compose` so that developers can easily spin-up a stack that mimics production in every way, while keeping it easy to hot reload, run tests, or add new services or configuration.\n\n- **[Nomad](https://www.nomadproject.io/) for deployment and [Terraform](https://www.terraform.io/) for provisioning.** We use Nomad to manage deployments and background tasks. Along with Terraform, we're able to spin up a Splitgraph cluster on AWS, GCP, Scaleway or Azure in just a few minutes.\n\n- **[Airflow](https://airflow.apache.org/) for job orchestration.** We use it to run and monitor jobs that maintain our catalog of [40,000 public datasets](https://www.splitgraph.com/blog/40k-sql-datasets), or ingest other public data into Splitgraph.\n\n- **[Grafana](https://grafana.com/), [Prometheus](https://prometheus.io/), [ElasticSearch](https://www.elastic.co/), and [Kibana](https://www.elastic.co/kibana) for monitoring and metrics.** We believe it's important to self-host fundamental infrastructure like our monitoring stack. We use this to keep tabs on important metrics and the health of all Splitgraph deployments.\n\n- **[Mattermost](https://mattermost.com/) for company chat.** We think it's absolutely bonkers to pay a company like Slack to hold your company communication hostage. That's why we self-host an instance of Mattermost for our internal chat. And of course, we can deploy it and update it with Terraform.\n\n- **[Matomo](https://matomo.org/) for web analytics.** We take privacy seriously, and we try to avoid including any third party scripts on our web pages (currently we include zero). We self-host our analytics because we don't want to share our user data with third parties.\n\n- **[Metabase](https://www.metabase.com/) and [Splitgraph](https://www.splitgraph.com) for BI and [dogfooding](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eating_your_own_dog_food)**. We use Metabase as a frontend to a Splitgraph instance that connects to Postgres (our internal databases), MySQL (Matomo's database), and ElasticSearch (where we store logs and DDN analytics). We use this as a chance to dogfood our software and produce fancy charts.\n\n- **The occasional best-of-breed SaaS services** **for organization.** As a privacy-conscious, independent-minded company, we try to avoid SaaS services as much as we can. But we still find ourselves unable to resist some of the better products out there. For organization we use tools like [Zoom](https://www.zoom.us) for video calls, [Miro](https://miro.com/) for brainstorming, [Notion](https://www.notion.so) for documentation (you're on it!), [Airtable for workflow management](https://airtable.com/), [PivotalTracker](https://www.pivotaltracker.com/) for ticketing, and [GitLab for dev-ops and CI](https://about.gitlab.com/).\n\n- **Other fun technologies** including [HAProxy](http://www.haproxy.org/), [OpenResty](https://openresty.org/en/), [Varnish](https://varnish-cache.org/), and bash. We don't touch them much because they do their job well and rarely break.\n\n# Life at Splitgraph\n**We are a young company building the initial team.** As an early contributor, you'll have a chance to shape our initial mission, growth and company values.\n\n**We think that remote work is the future**, and that's why we're building a remote-first organization. We chat on [Mattermost](https://mattermost.com/) and have video calls on Zoom. We brainstorm with [Miro](https://miro.com/) and organize with [Notion](https://www.notion.so).\n\n**We try not to take ourselves too seriously**, but we are goal-oriented with an ambitious mission.\n\n**We believe that as a small company, we can out-compete incumbents** by thinking from first principles about how organizations interact with data. We are very competitive.\n\n# Benefits\n- Fully remote\n\n- Flexible working hours\n\n- Generous compensation and equity package\n\n- Opportunity to make high-impact contributions to an agile team\n\n# How to Apply? ### **Job description**\n\n**What will you be doing?**\n\nAs with many young companies, your responsibilities will change over time. However, here are some of the responsibilities we expect you to take on as a Backend Engineer:\n\n* Gathering and processing large volumes of data, you'll play a meaningful role in improving a backend that processes very high volumes of raw data.\n* Supporting the rest of the team in improving the quality of our main Rails application.\n* Contributing to technology strategy – we will decide together how to evolve our data processing pipeline using technologies that fit our purposes.\n* Staying up to date with the latest trends in technology.\n\n### **Requirements**\n\n**Sounds interesting? Here’s what we’re looking for:**\n\n**Professionally**\n\n* You have 4+ years of experience, with at least 2 of them developing high traffic web applications.\n* Strong experience in SQL and data processing. We use PostgreSQL for almost everything.\n* You have experience with Ruby.\n* Good knowledge of cloud environments, particularly AWS and DigitalOcean.\n* Good knowledge of the fundamentals of software development – how to structure programs and decompose problems, when to apply patterns, and understand to select the right paradigm for a task.\n* Next to speaking English fluently, you are able to understand and translate business requirements into clearly articulated technology solutions.\n\n**Nice to Have:**\n\n* Experience with Rust.\n* Knowledge of CI/CD systems and practice.\n* Good knowledge of provisioning and orchestration tools. We presently use SaltStack and Terraform.\n\n**Behaviourally**\n\n* You're passionate about programming. You know how to run code, not just write it.\n* You're pragmatic and know when to be hands-on and enjoy taking the lead in challenging situations.\n* You're excited to learn new technologies and best practices.\n* You’re always up for pairing and tackling problems with your colleagues.\n* You're eager to learn, contribute to design and architecture decisions, and inspire change.\n\n**What is it like to work at ChartMogul?**\n\n* You’ll join the adventures of an early-stage company and experience what it means to have a job that’s incredibly impactful.\n* You’ll become part of a team of nice, awesome, and highly dedicated people that all have the same mission: Helping companies to build better businesses.\n* You’ll receive a great salary pack (market or upmarket).\n\nPlease note that we are only able to consider applicants who are eligible to work in the location of the role.\n\n#Location\n🇪🇺 EU-only

As a senior backend developer at [Baremetrics](https://baremetrics.com), you will be working on a variety of projects from payment provider integrations and data ingestion to metrics processing and user-facing features.\n\nWe're a very small team with a huge bias for simplicity. Baremetrics has grown to its current state with just 2 backend developers. You'll be working on projects, large and small, from inception to completion.\n\nWe approach our work with focus and purpose in an environment of trust and autonomy. When we work on a difficult problem, we take the time to think through and research the possible solutions and then write an implementation plan. Sometimes that may also include some tinkering.\n\n## The way we work\nYou are free to work from anywhere and choose your own hours. Much of our product team are located in Europe, but the team as a whole is spread across five countries and many timezones. Our general cadence is two-week product sprints followed by a bug week. Bug weeks can also include chores, refactoring or customer support.\n\n## The stack you’ll use\nAll of our code lives in a mono repo and all of our backend code is written in Ruby. Postgres is our main database and our frontend is moving towards a single-page application written in Vue and Typescript. You should feel comfortable exploring and learning new technologies and languages.\n\n## The work to be done\nWe have interesting engineering challenges and exciting plans for the future of the product, much of which revolves around processing and finding insights in large data sets.\n\nHere are some examples of the type of problems you would work on:\n\n* Rewrite our Stripe integration from scratch\n* Investigate metric discrepancies reported by customers and fix them at the root cause\n* Work on making customer segmentation 10,000x faster\n* Investigate and fix a race condition in our Messaging Code\n* Implement a new user-facing product feature\n* Develop tooling to surface business insights across many terabytes of data\n\n## About you\nYou have a strong track record of shipping great products using Ruby. You understand the language in depth. You should also be experienced in SQL query optimization and designing efficient schemas, as that's a big part of our core business logic.\n\nWe expect you to be self-motivated and self-directed, a strong individual contributor and true "manager of one". Almost all of our communication happens in writing and while we do sometimes pair program, what we don't do is "meetings". It is important that you are a good writer and effective communicator.\n\n## The hiring process\nThere are a few stages in the hiring process. We know how nerve racking applying for a new job can be and we want to make it as smooth and enjoyable as possible. We're looking to make an offer to someone no later than September 30.\n\n**Stage 1: Initial application & questions** — You’ll send in your basic info and answer a few questions about your experience and skills. If we believe you’d be a good fit based on that initial application, we’ll dive in with a few more questions to learn more about you, what you want out of your career and how we can help you be successful.\n\n**Stage 2: Test Project** — We’ll do a test project to learn about how you approach problem solving as well as to get a feel for your coding style. The will take up to a few hours to complete.\n\n**Stage 3: Interviews** — You’ll having a video interview with someone on the engineering team to talk through your test project. You’ll then do a final video interview with our CEO to talk company culture, benefits, perks and the future of the company as well as to answer any questions you have.\n\n**Stage 4: Job Offer** — After consulting a few of your references, we’ll make an offer and hope that you’ll join the team!\n\n## Benefits\n* Work from anywhere (we're 100% remote)\n* [Minimum vacation policy](https://baremetrics.com/blog/unlimited-minimum-vacation)\n* Salary range of $100k-140k\n* Bonus structure\n* Flexible work hours\n* Full health, vision & dental insurance for you and your family\n* Annual company meetups\n* Kindle Paperwhite + Unlimited Books\n* Monthly "remote stipend" that you can use for anything\n\n## About Baremetrics\nBaremetrics is a business analytics & insights company. We provide the tools and data businesses need to make solid business decisions.\n\nFounded in 2013, we're working hard to help businesses spend less time crunching numbers and looking at spreadsheets and instead give them instant access to metrics and business insights that they need to run their businesses.\n\nWe're not some flash-in-the-pan startup...we're seven years old, profitable, doing over $1.5M in revenue and growing. Nearly 1,000 business from all over the world trust us to help them grow their businesses.\n\nWe're looking for folks who like to solve problems and build a business and product that people genuinely love to interact with.\n\nRead about working at Baremetrics: [https://baremetrics.com/about](https://baremetrics.com/about) \n\n#Salary\n$125,000\n\n\n#Location\n🌏 Worldwide

The Senior Full Stack Engineer position is vital to the success of our company, partnering with all departments to align technology strategy with the company’s objectives.\n\nOur small and close knit engineering team currently consists of a UX specialist, 2 frontend engineers, one backend engineer, one WordPress engineer and several QA specialists. You’ll work closely with the team to implement solutions for all departments within Empire Flippers, be it compliance, customer support, sales and migrations. Additional responsibilities could lead to supervising our engineering team.\n\n# Responsibilities\n You’ll be responsible for the full software development life cycle, from conception to deployment building high quality, architecturally sound systems. You will use your initiative to design and implement client-side and server-side architecture, as well as implement API’s and integrations that address our business needs. Both our clients and staff will be using the software you write and you’ll be responsible for monitoring system performance and configuring new software and hardware. \n\n# Requirements\nWe believe in hiring people that are a good fit for us culturally.\n\nA good fit is actually more important to us than the skill set since we will teach you everything you need to know about our industry.\n\nYou must have a passion for travel, ideally with long periods of digital nomad experience with travel outside your home country.\n\nYou should have at least 5 good years of full stack experience under your belt, having implemented some complex, data driven applications. Your portfolio speaks louder than your words.\nYou should have team-lead or management experience with a remote team.\nAn in-depth understanding of database management systems, both relational and non-relational databases.\nHands on experience in IT, computer systems engineering, or systems engineering and analysis is necessary.\nYou should have an ability to conduct technological analyses and research, with a solid understanding of technological trends to build strategy.\nYou should be a ninja with every component of our tech stack. You must have a complete working knowledge of Ruby on Rails, SQL, Postgres, Sidekiq, Rspec, Git, Redis.\nExperience working with a wide range of 3rd party integrations. Our platform talks to many 3rd party applications, you should have experience building and maintaining such integrations in a test driven fashion.\nDev-ops/sysadmin skills, particularly AWS. Experience with managing servers, maintaining hosting environments, being responsible for uptime and responsiveness, addressing bottlenecks, ensuring backups are kept safe and sound.\nYou need to have immaculate attention to detail. We need to hear you grunting and moaning if something doesn’t quite look or feel right, to the nearest code change and to the nearest hexadecimal color, to the point you become annoying to us. At times other developers may edit your code, you’ll be watching to ensure the code base remains readable, scalable and fast.\nBe a good communicator. It sounds very cliché, but you’ll immerse yourself in almost every department, you’ll be learning problems and presenting solutions, and also overseeing the implementation of those solutions too.\nA self-starter. We need to see some evidence that you’re able to get up every morning, bite the bullet and just get on with it, even if you’ve tried four coffee shops and none have decent wifi. You won’t have eyes looking over your shoulder on a day to day basis, you’ll be working in almost full autonomy, we’ll need to trust you to deliver the goods. We don’t believe in micro-management.\nA complete working knowledge in React. Our client code is written in React. Being able to navigate the front-end code and patch things up is needed.\nThe following skills/experience would be a bonus, but not required:\n\nPHP/WordPress. We will be interfacing with WordPress significantly, being able to speak the same language would be great.\n\nDatabases. A comprehensive experience working with various types of SQL and noSQL databases would be very useful. MySQL, Postgres, DynamoDB, Cassandra, to name a few.\n\nCaching. The software we’re building needs to be fast and to remain fast as we scale, both in terms of traffic and database size. Having experience with Memcached, Varnish or experience with complicated CDN setups with many rules would be a plus. \n\n#Salary\n140,000\n\n\n#Location\n🌏 Worldwide

**The Opportunity**\n \nInterview Schedule is changing how teams hire. Our first product streamlines recruiting scheduling and coordination, saving teams hundreds of hours a month. We’re just getting started on, and have our sights set on making hiring a great experience for recruiters, hiring managers, and candidates. We’re building the platform to engage these key stakeholders and fix the $200 billion per year hiring industry. \n\nThis is an exceptional opportunity to join a small and fast-growing startup, transforming an industry with powerful and easy to use products customers love. As an early employee you'll have tons of ownership, a big impact on product, a say in our values, and opportunities to tremendously accelerate your career growth. \n\nWe're building a remote team and looking for the best individuals - no matter where you are. All we require is a reliable internet connection and passion for building an amazing company.\n\n**What We’re Looking For**\n\nGeneralist is too specific a term for you. Back end, front end, database design, infra - you've done it all. Building products end to end is where you shine - you don't like being constrained by titles. You can code the full stack and have built products end to end. You’re comfortable building web apps. If you don't know something, you learn what's needed to get the job done. You want to build something people want. You're product minded and have user empathy.\n\nWe use JavaScript (React), Python (Flask), and SQL (PostgreSQL). We’re hosted on AWS. Having these skills is great, but we know the best engineers can pick them up quickly when needed.\n\n**What We Value**\n\nAt Interview Schedule we believe in ownership and accountability, challenging the status quo, nothing is “not my job”, having empathy, being direct, and being honest.\n\nAs engineers we believe in picking the right tool for the job, balancing technical excellence with pragmatism, having strong opinions weakly held, and attacking ideas not people.\n\n**What We Offer**\n\n* Autonomy, impact, and ownership. As an early employee you’ll shape the product direction and company values.\n* Competitive salary and significant equity in a fast growing, early stage startup.\n* Remote employment - work where you want, when you want.\n* Generous vacation policy - take time whenever you need to recharge. Building a lasting company is a marathon, not a sprint.\n* Top-notch healthcare, dental, and vision coverage.\n* Life and disability insurance.\n* Annual company retreat - helps build camaraderie as a remote team.\n* Computer and home office setup - we'll buy anything you need to do your best work.\n* Continuing education allowance - learn what you want, when you want.\n\n#Location\nUSA

**About Us**\n\nAt[ Close](https://close.com/), we're building the sales communication platform of the future. With our roots as the very first sales CRM to include built-in calling, we're leading the industry toward eliminating manual processes and helping companies to close more deals (faster). Since our founding in 2013, we've grown to become a profitable, 100% globally distributed team of ~33 high-performing, happy people that are dedicated to building a product our customers love.\n\nOur backend [tech stack](https://stackshare.io/close-crm/close) currently consists of Python Flask/Gunicorn web apps with our TaskTiger scheduler handling many of the backend asynchronous task processing. Our data stores include MongoDB, Postgres, Elasticsearch, and Redis. The underlying infrastructure runs on AWS using a combination of managed services like RDS and ElasticCache and non-managed services running on EC2 instances. All of our compute runs through CI/CD pipelines that build Docker images, run automated tests and deploy to our Kubernetes clusters. Our backend primarily serves a well-documented [public API ](https://developer.close.com/) that our front-end JavaScript app consumes.\n\nWe ❤️open source – using dozens of open source projects with contributions to many of them, and released some of our own like [ciso8601](https://github.com/closeio/ciso8601), [LimitLion](https://github.com/closeio/limitlion), [SocketShark](https://github.com/closeio/socketshark), [TaskTiger](https://github.com/closeio/tasktiger), and more at https://github.com/closeio\n\n\n**About You**\n\nWe're looking for an experienced full-time Software Engineer to join our engineering team. You have significant experience designing, scaling, debugging, and optimizing systems to make them fast and reliable. You have experience participating in code reviews and providing overall code quality suggestions to help maintain the structure and quality of the codebase.\n\nYou’re comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with a small and talented team where you're supported in your efforts to grow professionally. You are able to manage your time well, communicate effectively and collaborate in a fully distributed team.\n\nYou are located in an American or European time zone.\n\n\n**Bonus point if you have**\n\n* Contributed open source code related to our tech stack\n* Led small project teams building and launching features\n* Built B2B SaaS products\n* Experience with sales or sales tools\n\n**Come help us with projects like**\n\n* Conceiving, designing, building, and launching new user-facing features\n* Improving the performance and scalability our API. Howdy 👋We’re the folks at Jilt, an email marketing platform built for eCommerce. We help thousands of stores surprise and delight their customers with emails that drive sales. We’re looking for a driven, detail-oriented engineer to join our team and build fast, scalable backend systems in Rails.\n\n**The Role**\n\nYou’ll work closely with your teammates on the engineering team to design, create, and refine systems that power the core platform; things like syncing data with external eCommerce platforms, optimizing our sending architecture & scheduler, and analyzing browsing & shopping behavior data. Jilt is built as a traditional Rails 5.2 app, with Postgres & Elasticsearch for persistence, and Sidekiq for background jobs. We use Angular (v1) to power our visual email editor and Vue.js for some areas with a lot of dynamic content, and are actively replacing both with React, so you’ll be able to help architect the APIs that will drive those new interfaces.\n\nWhile the majority of your time will be spent working on backend systems & features, you’ll also have the opportunity to work on various front-end systems, like fixing a bug with our email editor, replacing a legacy Slim template with a React view, or adding a new feature to our storefront JS.\n\nAs one of our senior engineers, the team will look to you for advice and direction. You’ll help shape our best practices, decide on libraries & tooling, and refactor older or underperforming parts of the codebase. You’ll also be responsible for moving your projects forward, communicating your progress and milestones with others, and clearly documenting your work.\n\n**Here are some things you may do on a given day:**\n* Research and write a pitch to improve the performance of our email scheduling system\n* Refactor our storage subsystem to abstract how we handle file uploads\n* Troubleshoot an issue with our campaign segmentation feature by deep diving into our Elasticsearch cluster\n* Analyze a slow SQL query and suggest ways to improve it\n* Construct a detailed, multi-step data migration to split an existing model into two, with zero-downtime and including complicated data transformations\n* Triage the Sentry queue for any exceptions that need investigation\n* Develop a new API endpoint to support updated React components\n\n**On the first day you will:**\n* Meet your team and get familiar with how we work\n* Setup your local environment and tooling\n* Commit a small tweak to the codebase and ship it to production\n\n**In the first week you will:**\n* Develop, QA, review, and ship a small feature improvement\n* Participate in code review for a teammate’s code\n* Help a team member with fixing a bug\n\n**In the first month you will:**\n* Work closely with the product team to ship a large feature\n* Participate in your first support rotation week and help our support team with escalated issues\n* Publish a retrospective on your first large project to share successes & planned improvements for the next project\n\n**Who you’ll work with:**\n* Justin Stern, CTO - You’ll work with Justin to deeply understand our codebase, and learn how the various parts of our systems work together.\n* Beka Rice, Head of Product - Beka will help you learn our platform, in detail, and all the ways that our customers use Jilt.\n* You’ll also work with the rest of the product & engineering teams (Ivan, Lucas, Jonathan, Wes, Artan, Jared, Chase) to review one another’s work and collaborate on projects.\n\n\n**You**\n\n**To succeed in this position, you should have:**\n* Deep experience & proficiency in Ruby & Rails\n* Demonstrated ability to break larger epics out into smaller discrete stories with detailed implementation tasks\n* Experience working on the front-end and excitement for combining front-end frameworks like React alongside Rails\n* Familiarity working with external APIs (have experience with eCommerce platforms? This is a bonus — tell us!)\n\nYou love writing code that’s clear, self-documenting (but you know that self-documenting doesn’t mean no comments), and standards-compliant. You prefer writing Ruby, but are comfortable in JavaScript or picking up other languages (like Go or PHP) as needed. You have deep experience working with Rails and all of its libraries and know when to roll a custom solution to a problem or use a gem. You’ve worked with Sidekiq or a similar background processing system, and understand the subtle but important guidelines to follow when architecting performant, fault-tolerant background workers.\n\nYou also love data and working with complex queries in SQL, whether as part of ActiveRecord or on the console. You have experience with Elasticsearch, or are excited to learn it, and are interested in the challenges involved with keeping separate datastores in sync. You love keeping up-to-date with the latest best practices and tools, and are constantly tweaking and improving the way you work. You know how to operate a hydraulic press, or least watched a YouTube video about them and think they’re totally rad.\n\nYou’re excited to solve engineering challenges in the most pragmatic way possible, and most importantly, you keep the end user in mind and love getting feedback from customers to help improve our products.\n\nFinally, you can’t wait to join a small team that loves their work as much as you do, affords the opportunity to work on challenging & interesting projects, continuously learn and improve, and constantly ship your work. You’re an excellent writer and can communicate effectively whether drafting up a bug report, chatting in Slack, editing a wiki page, or drafting a retrospective. You know that code is about communication and explaining your thought process clearly goes hand-in-hand. \n\nOur team is fully-remote and we communicate primarily through Slack, Clubhouse, Google Docs, Basecamp, and weekly stand-ups via Zoom (a few short meetings) — we believe the best work happens when given lots of uninterrupted time that’s free of distractions.\n\nAs a remote team, we believe that regular meetups are invaluable for getting to know each other better, so you should be available for 1-2 company-paid team trips per year. Curious about what those are like? Check out our recap of our last team retreat (SkyTrip), which brought the entire team out to Lake Tahoe, California for a week. It’s a plus if you think (like we do) that bears are absolutely the coolest animals in the forest. \n\nThis is a full-time, salaried position, but hours are flexible. We know your work will speak for itself with commits, issues closed, and wiki edits.\n\n**Process**\n\nAfter an initial screening, you’ll get an email with a few questions to answer. Following that, you’ll have a few 45 minute phone chats with different people on our team to learn more about you and answer any questions you have about the position and company. \n\nThe most qualified candidates will then be invited to complete a short one-day research project. If this goes well, we'll invite you to the final stage of our evaluation process: the trial project. During this ~2 week period, you'll work closely with your future manager, as well as a few other team members, as a paid contractor to implement your proposal from the research project. You'll be welcomed in Slack, introduced to any team members you may be working with, and will have regular chats with your future manager to share feedback and make sure all is going well. This brief trial period is a great way for you to make sure you enjoy the work and the team, and it also gives us an opportunity to do the same. At the end of the period, assuming a great experience for all, you'll be offered a full time position 🎉Then the real fun and full onboarding experience will begin! 😄\n\n**Benefits**\n\nHere are some benefits we're happy to offer to our team members:\n* Competitive salary\n* 27 days of paid time-off, in addition to 2 company holidays (SkyVerge Day in March, Founders Day in June 😀)\n* Medical, Dental, and Vision insurance for US and Canadian residents and their families (reimbursements for comparable care for non-US/Canadian residents)\n* 401k/RRSP Retirement plan with 4% company match for US/Canadian residents (contributions to comparable plans for non-US/Canadian residents)\n* 8 weeks paid parental leave for new mothers and fathers\n* Work flexible hours from anywhere that has a reliable internet connection\n* Tools (hardware/software) to help you be productive\n* Allowance for professional growth (books, courses, conferences)\n* Home office or co-working allowance\n* A Kindle to help you keep learning\n\n*We support workplace diversity and do not discriminate on any protected class. We believe when we work together as a team of different views, experiences, and ideas, we can build amazing things.*

Estately makes it easier to find and buy a home online and we need your help.\n\nWhat you'll do:\n\nYou'll collaborate to build, maintain, and streamline our large application, working with Ruby, Rails, Postgres, and more. Some examples of the work you'll be doing include the following:\n\n* Working closely with product and design to define and implement new features\n* Continually improving our fetching code, which grabs data on millions of properties throughout each day\n* Integrating various APIs to give our customers even more info about homes\n* Making our website a more delightful experience\n\nYou'll have both the opportunity and the independence to tackle all kinds of challenges: some days you'll work on refactoring a legacy part of the app to make it do something new, and on others, you'll build a brand new, greenfield feature.\n\nYou\n\n* You have experience architecting, building, and maintaining reliable web applications that serve hundreds of requests per second.\n* You care about maintaining a clean, readable, well tested codebase.\n* We work extensively with Ruby, Rails, Postgres, React, and Sass. You have experience with most of these technologies, and are eager to learn new ones.\n* You communicate well and collaborate with the whole team, be it to clarify product specifications or work through tough code problems.\n* You enjoy mentoring fellow team members in areas where you have expertise – and graciously accept mentorship in areas where you have an opportunity to grow.\n\nAbout Us:\n\n* We're a small team focused on opening up the old school real estate world.\n* Our goal is to build the best place for people to browse, shop for, and buy homes.\n* We employ an iterative approach to building products and deploy multiple times a day.\n* We have a big vision.\n* We believe in hiring smart people and giving them the support and flexibility to succeed.\n\nIf you work locally, you'll be in a relaxed and fun office in the Belltown neighborhood.\nWe're looking to hire the best people wherever they are in the world. If you don't want to relocate to beautiful Seattle, you should be awesome at working from home and available to join our daily standup at 9:30am Pacific Time. Some developers live in Seattle and come into the Estately office, while others live and work remotely, including from outside of the United States. We've had remote developers since 2011, and are seasoned veterans of working with a distributed team, across multiple time zones.\n\nOur Hiring Process\n\nWe believe in collaborative interviews where we work with you to solve realistic problems. We interview for practical skills in a one-on-one setting, and strive to use your preferred editor and tools whenever possible. Great candidates don’t usually write code on white boards, or implement basic data structures from scratch, so we won’t ask you to do that. We want our recruiting process to be transparent to you. It roughly consists of the following steps:\n\n     An initial call between you and a member of our team\n\nWe'll tell you more about the work that you'd be doing, and why we think Estately is a great place to work. You'll have the opportunity to ask us lots of questions, too. We'll ask you about your experience and some technical questions, mostly to get a feel for where you're at as we move forward with the process.\n\n     Individual Exercise\n\nWe have a few practical challenges to assess technical knowledge. Over the course of a few hours, you'll be fixing a bug in our app (that we've previously fixed), so we can see how you approach solving a realistic problem.\n\n     Pairing on a Few Potential Features\n\nDuring the pairing exercises you'll pair with one of our developers to implement an (existing) feature in the app. This will take a couple hours or so, and will mostly consist of discussion about approach, with some coding in the midst of it.\n\n     Discussion with representatives from our Product and Design teams\n\nAs a small team, all of our developers work very closely with product and design. These short sessions will give you a chance to meet and speak with the product and design folks that you would be working with on a regular basis.\n\nDiversity\n\nEstately seeks to increase the ratio of women and underrepresented minorities in software engineering and development, we encourage women and people from underrepresented groups to apply for this position. \n\nEstately is striving to be a diverse team, made of and built by people with different backgrounds and lifestyles. We don't discriminate based on race, gender, sexual orientation, marital status, disability, age, religion, color, or any other group.\n\nEstately is striving to be a diverse team, made of and built by people with different backgrounds and lifestyles. \nTechnology isn’t the answer to questions of poverty, public health, education, and the environment, but it shouldn’t be the problem. The current landscape is disjointed and it’s prohibitively difficult for most NGOs to turn promising technologies into better decisions. We’re building an AppStore and data-integration platform that helps social-impact organizations find, connect, and successfully implement key technologies. openFn is a non-profit, open-source project that's funded both by forward thinking foundations and revenue from our integration product.\n\nAs the first full-time senior technical hire you’ll own the codebase. It’s built on Ruby, PostgreSQL, Angular.js, and Heroku. The core functions are (1) guiding users to the right external technologies (e.g., electronic medical record systems, analytics tools, data capture apps, mobile payment systems, sms gateways, etc.), then (2) allowing them to build complex data integrations across these technologies through a simple, point-and-click interface. You’ll have leeway to redesign the stack if necessary, ensuring that the platform is optimally efficient as more and more endpoint technologies are added.\nYou’ll work primarily with openFn's founder, Taylor Downs, winner of the first annual Harvard SECON Social Impact Award, member of Forbes 30 under 30, and co-founder and former CEO of Vera Solutions—technology partner to over 125 leading impact-first organizations in over 40 countries. You’ll also have access to programming support from our external development firm and collaborate with product designers and developers around the world who are building technologies for social change.\n
