Founded in 2012 by noted database experts, and backed by major venture capital and high-wealth individuals, VividCortex is headquartered in Charlottesville, Virginia with a remote team in Montevideo, Uruguay. With more than 750% year-over-year growth, VividCortex is a company on fire!

About VividCortex

VividCortex is a modern database monitoring platform that gives developers and DBAs deep visibility into the database. Our solution is delivered as software-as-a-service and helps our customers see and analyze the work their databases are doing in great detail. It addresses critical pain points in measuring and managing today's large, distributed, diverse storage tiers composed of multiple different clustered products, all working together.

We have a fast-growing customer base of well-known companies, and a tremendous reputation in our market for delivering a high-quality, innovative solution for database performance problems that are common in tens of thousands of small and large organizations.

About The Role

VividCortex is looking for experienced software engineers with deep knowledge and interest in MongoDB to help us build and improve the platform that ingests, secures, and analyzes the massive amounts of performance and other data we measure from our customers' database servers. Our platform is written in Go and hosted on the AWS cloud. It uses Kafka, Redis, and MySQL for data storage and analysis. We are a DevOps organization building a 12-factor microservices application; we practice small, fast cycles of rapid improvement and full exposure to the entire infrastructure, but we don't take anything to extremes.

The position offers excellent benefits, a competitive base salary, an opportunity for equity, and a path to promotion. Diversity is important to us, and we welcome and encourage applicants from all walks of life and all backgrounds.

Responsibilities

  • Discover, define, document, and design selected portions of our infrastructure, whether that's public APIs, internal services, background worker tasks, statistical computations, or the like.
  • Write code, tests, and deployment manifests and artifacts, using CircleCI, Git and GitHub, pull requests, issues, etc. Collaborate with peers on code review and approval.
  • Engage with our product development and sales teams, as well as external stakeholders to advocate for our MongoDB product offering.
  • Deploy, observe, and operate the systems you build. Use ChatOps, VividCortex, Ansible, the Unix command line, and other tools to do this.
  • Measure and improve the code and system as it runs in production.
  • Help provide customer support. Help other departments, such as Sales, as needed.
  • Rotate through on-call duty.
  • Continually seek to understand and improve our security posture and practices; security is part of everyone's job here.
  • Continually seek to understand and improve performance, reliability, resilience, scalability, and automation. Our goal is that systems should scale linearly with our customer growth, and the effort of maintaining the systems should scale sub-linearly.
  • Contribute to a culture of blameless learning, responsibility, and accountability.
  • Collaborate as needed; work independently when needed. You must be self-managing. You must be present and online during your team's normal working hours, and attend and participate in team calls and the like.

    Ideal Qualifications

  • Successful candidates are collaborative, self-managing, and experienced in general development, deployment, and operation of modern API-powered web applications using continuous delivery and Git in a Unix/Linux environment.
  • SaaS multitenant experience is a bonus.
  • Experience with enterprise security is a plus.
  • You know MongoDB pretty well, and will advocate for it
  • Experience with Go and MySQL is very beneficial.
  • Bash scripting experience is desirable.
  • A 4-year degree from an accredited university.
  • A driver's license.

At VividCortex, we want to build a diverse team because it's the right thing to do, and because we believe diversity is strength. We encourage applicants from all walks of life and all backgrounds.

Note to Agencies and Recruiters: VividCortex has a strict company policy against engaging with unsolicited contact from agencies or recruiters. Solve hard problems with a team of infrastructure pros

NSONE is based in New York City with offices in San Francisco and Singapore. We’re a world class team of internet infrastructure experts, working on deep solutions to real world traffic management problems, and operating a large global delivery infrastructure powered by bleeding edge technology.

Tight-knit, customer focused, driven by innovation

NSONE is not a sprawling, hierarchy addled behemoth. We are lean and fast, and there’s a tight loop among our entire team. We’re all about automation, intelligent distributed systems, and quick iteration.

The role

We’re looking for smart, creative folks who enjoy a healthy mix of hacking and helping. You’re the type of guy or gal who secretly likes the fact that you run tech support for your entire family/office/commune. You have experience running Linux-heavy distributed applications at scale, but you never forget the fact that a product is nothing without a legion of happy users.

NSONE already has an awesome product AND the best customers on the planet - now we need you to help us keep moving it forward. 75% of your job will be comprised of the front-line systems-y support-y stuff you’re a seasoned pro at, and 25% will be pre-sales customer interaction. In this role you’ll be switching out your Systems Engineer hardhat for a fashionable Sales Engineer cap, teaming up with our expert sales folks in order to get in front of prospective customers and show them why NSONE is so awesome.

By interacting with customers early in the sales cycle you’ll ensure a smooth transition from prospect, to customer, to champion. You’ll take advantage of your deep technical background, leverage your intimate knowledge of our world-class platform, and bring it all together in order to help some of the most interesting companies on the Internet solve challenging problems.

In this position, you should have broad knowledge of the plethora of technologies that comprise modern WEBSCALE applications and be able to offer constructive advice for customer implementation as well as internal improvements. You’ll take responsibility for front line support, and your daily work will have an immediate company-wide impact.

Some stuff you’ll work on:

  • Troubleshoot DNS problems in the context of larger, client-specific application topologies
  • Take advantage of our unique feature set to implement distinctive solutions to complex traffic routing problems for our customers
  • Touch, monitor, and improve NSONE’s various subsystems
  • Identify areas for improvements and offer constructive advice, both customer facing and internally
  • Work collaboratively with a team of rockstar engineers and great salespeople to improve the customer's experience and make life (ours and theirs) easier

    Technologies

We run a custom stack in one of the world’s most distributed topologies, with infrastructure in more than 20 markets around the globe. Some tools we’re currently using to tie it all together include:

  • Ansible
  • Redis
  • Linux
  • MongoDB
  • Vagrant
  • RabbitMQ
  • Python (Twisted)
  • Hadoop/HDFS/OpenTSDB
  • Grafana
  • BPF and packet analysis

    Working @ NSONE

We’re a small, well funded startup with a casual work environment and strong work ethic. There’s a lot to do so we keep meetings and process to a minimum. We’re headquartered in NYC’s Financial District. We like to have fun, but skip most of the fancy startup gimmicks (fresh beer yes, gourmet chef and afternoon yoga no). We prefer candidates local to NYC or SFO, but will happily consider well qualified remote employees.

    We offer:

  • competitive compensation (salary and stock options)
  • medical, dental, and vision
  • commuter benefits

Requisition Number 15-0087

Job Description

The successful candidate will join our developer's team supporting a large infrastructure that supplies precision agriculture API, web, and mobile app services. We focus on increasing how many API calls/second we can support, reducing the latency of each API call, and of course on availability. The predominance of this work will be in cloud infrastructure providers such as Amazon EC2 and others.

A strong candidate will have experience with building automated and scalable management systems that can rapidly deploy systems in response to changing demands. We want people who would rather work with configuration management and automated deployment tools than execute the same command time and time again. We are firm believers of using and customizing automated tools.

Members of the developer team enjoy flexibility. On-call responsibilities are shared with the rest of the developers team for full 24x7x52 coverage. The team self-schedules on-call coverage. We strongly believe in fixing the root of the problem to prevent it from happening again, rather than simply dealing with the symptom. The position can either be in any of the Iteris offices around the country or a work from home position. For remote workers some additional travel will be required for multi-day team meetings.

Qualifications Required

  • B.S or B.A in Computer Science or related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
  • Three (3) years of relevant work experience including Unix system administration
  • Three (3) years of relevant experience with scripting languages such as Perl, PHP, Python, Ruby, or Shell
  • Three (3) years of relevant work experience in network administration such as BGP, OSPF, VLANs, and firewalls

    Qualifications Desired

  • Strong experience with administering systems and networks in Amazon AWS, Google Compute Engine, or other IaaS providers
  • Six (6) years of relevant work experience, including high-volume or critical production service environments
  • Experience leading teams and/or projects
  • Significant experience with high availability and scalable clusters of SQL databases. (We use MySQL and Postgres.)
  • Experience with NoSQL databases is a distinct advantage. We have a large Cassandra cluster and also use MongoDB, Couchbase, and Redis
  • Proven technical troubleshooting and performance tuning experience
  • Relevant configuration management experience with CFEngine, Chef, or Puppet
  • Excellent analytical skills, coupled with a strong sense of ownership, urgency and drive
  • Strong inter-personal and communication skills; capable of training users and writing documentation and policies
  • Good experience in automated monitoring and notification systems for production environments
  • Fundamental understanding of operating systems (e.g. user space v. kernel space, inter-process communications, differentiation of layers in the network stack, routing v. switching)
  • Ability to research and troubleshoot problems outside of comfort zone and knowledge base
  • Experience with HTTP caches, both on-site and distributed caches (such as CDN services)
  • Experience with supporting 7x24x52 production systems in complex configurations

As a Site Reliability Engineer at ReactiveOps, your primary goal will be to ensure our client’s applications are available, fast, and secure. Our clients need the best service, support, and products, and we need you to help us deliver.

JOB DESCRIPTION

At ReactiveOps, we offer two main products: DevOps consulting and managed operations. Through DevOps consulting, we write infrastructure automation, migrate to high-availability solutions, and craft Docker/CoreOS microservices architectures for our clients. You’ll work directly with clients to ensure their goals are met through automation, analysis, and infrastructure configuration.

Via managed operations, we act as our client's “outsourced, in-house DevOps team”, on top of AWS and other cloud vendors, as best meets our client’s needs. You’ll manage globally load balanced AWS installations, cross-datacenter replication on different vendors, or within client’s data-centers.

No matter the product, we take a DevOps-centric approach with our clients - we believe that we provide amazing service and our clients get the best value when we work closely together. We integrate task trackers (Pivotal, Trello, Asana), chat (Slack, Hipchat), and source control (github) into our own workflow through careful and clever use of automation, giving our clients the ability to contact us like they would with an internal DevOps team but without an operational burden on us.

You’ll work with virtualization and container technologies like Docker, CoreOS, Kubernetes, OpenStack, Vagrant, and Ansible. You will setup and automate high availability data clusters (MySQL Galera, PostgreSQL replication, Redis cluster, ElasticSearch clustering, Memcached, MongoDB etc.), application instances for technologies like Ruby-on-Rails, Django, Node, and Scala (to name a few). You'll engineer management, orchestration, monitoring, and alerting for fleets of instances. If you’ve ever wanted to work at a scale that few companies do, you’ll find the right challenge here at ReactiveOps!

We all work from home and have a “Remote First” culture. We are a Results-Only Work Environment, have a transparent and public technical ladder, minimum vacation policy and unlimited time off, and require healthy work-life balance. We pay 100% of individual and family health insurance premiums, participate in 401k match and have been bootstrapped and profitable since our founding. All employees participate in quarterly profit sharing, and we all get together for periodic all-expenses-paid retreats.

We're hiring across experience bands from mid to senior levels.

We are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity at our company. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform DevOps-focused consulting work for diverse clients
  • Create and maintain system architecture, design, and automation
  • Pair with other SRE/SAs, mentor junior staff
  • Release and maintain open-source software and projects
  • Author blog posts and participate in the community by going to meetups, conferences, etc. as a ReactiveOps representative
  • Manage availability and performance problems for clients; automate resolution to prevent re-occurrence

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proficient in Ruby, Python, or JavaScript
  • Significant experience with config management or automation frameworks like Chef, Puppet, or Ansible
  • 4 years maintaining production infrastructure on a Linux environment
  • Intermediate Ubuntu system administration skills
  • Strong DevOps experience and client service skills
  • Ability to participate in on-call/pager rotation as necessary

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5-8 years maintaining high volume, distributed production infrastructure and microservices/Docker architectures
  • Superior DevOps mentality and client service skills
  • Strong Ubuntu system administration skills
  • Deep experience debugging, profiling, upgrading Ruby on Rails, NodeJS, or Python applications and application servers
  • Previous database administration experience
  • Demonstrated public accomplishments via open source, speaking, blogging, etc.

About Us

We are an innovative IT startup looking to fundamentally change restaurant experience using cutting edge solutions. We are an exceptionally motivated team of technologists, who have taken significant sacrifices to make our project a reality. Despite being a small team we already spent 4 man-years on development from complete greenfield and placed solid foundations for our system. We are working hard to transform a great idea into reality and we need help from more people like us.

About You

You are a seasoned hands-on technologist, you understand what it means to build and operate mission critical IT and have relevant experience to show for it. You enjoy building complex systems that simplify users' everyday life. You have contributed to either open source or private IT projects in your spare time and added substantial value to them.

While you are really good at what you do, you don't just want to work for a large faceless corporation (even if they are doing cool things). Aside from a well paid job, you want to build something great that you also have ownership of. You enjoy having the freedom to act and to take decisions but you also take responsibility for the outcome. You get inspired and you put your full energy behind an idea you believe in. You like having skin in the game.

You have your areas of expertise but you also have the basic knowledge to work on any part of a system. You live and breathe automated testing and automated deployment. Agile work (sprints, branches, code reviews, continuous integration) is how you work. You have a "can do" attitude. Your work is not done until it's documented. You refactor as you go and fix the issues you spot.

About the Role

You will be working closely with our core team of technologists adding features and making changes to our system. You will drive the execution to the end of the mini-projects you take on. You will be involved in every aspect of the project and your contributions will be key to making it a success.

This is a unique opportunity to be part of a real startup in a very narrow time window where a large chunk of the work is under way and the go-live is very close. Our employees work for a salary, our partners work for equity. If you prove your worth as a partner you will be compensated just like the founders from a special pool of equity with a 5 year dilution protection which is really valuable when large scale funding is raised.

Given the compensation scheme for partners, there are broadly two ways you can contribute:

  • cautious but dedicated: you keep your job but you give up your free time and work with us at least 15 hours per week
  • all in: you quit your job, go into financial survival mode (or into your savings) and work full-time with us

We currently have people doing both. Anyone who does the latter receives a basic salary but definitely not a commercial rate. The kind of drive and motivation we want cannot be bought with money anyway. Needless to say that the more you contribute, the larger share of the equity pool you will get. The location preference is for London but you can work from anywhere in the world.

Experience in following helps but we expect you to be able to learn new technologies very quickly.

  • NoSQL databases, particularly MongoDB
  • multi-instance RESTful Java backends
  • JavaScript and AngularJS
  • hardware interaction on Android devices (NFC, GPS, gyro, battery, etc ...)
  • Andorid OS customization, especially for non-Nexus devices
  • networking on Linux, particularly IPsec VPN tunnels and SSL certificate based access
  • infrastructure automation and management on Amazon Web Services

DESCRIPTION

Who we are:

We’re in the business of delivering awesome meals to your home.
We build and run a superb website, suite of mobile apps, and a fleet of drivers, all so you can order from real restaurants, to your doorstep.

We work with hundreds of the UK's best loved restaurants (Carluccio's, GBK, Nando's, Rossopomodoro, many top quality independents) to deliver their meals to homes and offices everywhere. Our customers are as passionate about great food as we are — and we satisfy them in just 32 minutes on average!

What we do:

As a logistics company, our software is used to transport physical goods and solve real-world problems. We handle rapid decisions about dispatching drivers in real-time and remove slow human think-time and inefficient information discovery from every interchange point in the order processing workflow so food deliveries can be fulfilled as quickly as possibly. Our current total order fulfillment time from the time that the customer submits an order until they receive their meal is, on average, 32 minutes, although we know we can do better.

You:

Our product team needs to grow, quickly: our breackneck-paced growth comes with many challenges, from our dispatch backend to excellence in front-end UX, and from software architecture to highly usable mobile applications.

We're uncompromising though: we're like smart, ambitious software engineers, designers, and product managers to join us, and help us build and scale this lovable (and loved!) product.

We are looking for like-minded developers who truly love the craft of software engineering. We value a job well done rather than unreasonably long hours. We encourage engineer to be curious, put time into studying software development (learn new languages, study design patterns or algorithms, experiment with new open source frameworks, etc) and to continue to develop new skills.

As a Software Engineer (backend) on our team, you will:

  • Work with great product people, like Greg (our CTO), Simon (Head of design), Marty (full-stack engineer), or Julien (backend engineer).
  • Be exposed to the whole business, in an environment where your ideas counts.
  • Work with teams from the entire company to design and deliver features for a rapidly growing suite of products
  • Design, build, ship and maintain software features across one or more parts of our stack — from operations, backend, and APIs to highly interactive front-ends and mission-critical mobile applications.
  • Contribute to a learning organisation: you'll help defining how we work together, and how we build a great product.
  • Report to the CTO.

    REQUIREMENTS

  • Pride in readable, well-designed, well-tested software.
  • Professional experience with Ruby and Ruby on Rails (2+ years)
  • We'll still consider you if you have done some Ruby on the side, and have worked with similar environment (Python/Django, Perl/Catalyst, PHP/Laravel, Groovy/Grails).
  • Experience with relational databases (PostGreSQL, MySQL) and key-value stores (Memcache, Redis)
  • A relentless desire to satisfy every customer's palate.
  • A sense of humour.
  • A stash of Kangaroo GIFs (Cat GIFs tolerated).

    Nice-to-haves:

  • Experience with PostGIS, or any geography-heavy applications.
  • Experience with "NoSQL" data backends (Redis, MongoDB, ElasticSearch).
  • Experience with Go.
  • Experience with logistics.

    BENEFITS

  • Work where you want.
  • As long as you have a great internet connection, and you're happy to come see us regularly of course!
  • Top-notch kit. Bring your own or we'll get you a shiny new Macbook and stuff.
  • Eat great food.
    • If you're remote, that's a good reason to come to the office regularly!
    • If not, watch that waistline ^_^
  • Tech and food events with the team.
  • Gym membership (if in London). Probably important in a food company.
  • Swag! You'd better like kangaroos though.

Gitter

Devops Infrastructure Engineer

Gitter

At Gitter we're growing a communication network for developers and people who create software. We are home to thousands of open source software communities and help private teams communicate better.

Our small team is rapidly growing and are looking for great people in any corner of the world to help us build a better product.

About the role

You'll take ownership of the Gitter cloud infrastructure with the goal of ever improving the manageability, measurability, reliability and performance of the system. As the system architect, you'll be working closely with developers from the outset of any work to define how to build software with your goals in mind.

Additionally, you'll oversee the project to distribute our infrastructure across multiple availability zones and regions, including sharding our MongoDB infrastructure.

Gitter's usage is growing exponentially and our communities require zero downtime and snappy performance to communicate. You'll need to predict and forecast the needs of the system and continually take away system bottlenecks before they become an issue.

Open Source

Not only does Gitter host tens-of-thousands of open source communities, but we're passionate about using, and contributing back to, open source projects. We've open sourced our IRC bridge, our desktop clients, many libraries and have plans to open source a great deal more of our code-base. Wherever possible, we reject Not-Built-Here syndrome in favour of using -- and improving through contributions -- existing open-source projects.

GitHub is not your CV, but the ideal candidate will have a demonstrable experience with contributing to open source through commits, pull-requests, issues or comments.

Interesting challenges

Our stack is based around node.js, express.js, MongoDB, Redis, Elasticsearch, Marionette.js, LESS, Faye running on Ubuntu Linux on AWS Cloud infrastructure, orchestrated with Ansible and it's evolving all the time with our product. There's also iOS and Android pieces built on a hybrid HTML/native model.

Although we're a small company, you'll be growing past the boundaries of current state of the art of technology as far as as you would be in almost any (non-research) startup out there. For example, we've worked with Amazon as we've been the first to discover and isolate some unique serious issues in Amazon Webservice's ELB.

You'll be working in an open environment, where everyone's ideas are equally welcome and all new features are brainstormed together by the whole team.

We're looking for people who are accomplished, but not arrogant; experienced but hungry to learn; perfectionists, but pragmatic; passionate, but personable; we're looking for balanced individuals.

Requirements

You must have proven, real world experience with:

Managing Linux, BSD or Solaris cloud-based infrastructure
Excellent command-line skills
Kernel tuning and low-level unix-like diagnostic tools
Continuous integration and deployment systems (we use Jenkins and Ansible)
node.js services
MongoDB, including sharding
IT Automation tools, preferably Ansible
Amazon WebServices, particularly EC2, ELB, VPC but also S3, Cloudfront, Cloudwatch
Application Monitoring and Alerting (we use Datadog, monit and Pagerduty)
Additionally, experience with the following technologies would be a bonus:

Containerisation and similar technologies (Docker, CoreOS, FreeBSD Jails, Ubuntu Core, etc)
ChatOps (Hubot, etc)

Great users

Your role will be as a engineer, engineering software for software engineers. It's the ultimate dog-fooding and you will empathise with our users needs, frustrations and desires. In fact, Gitter was built using Gitter from day one.

Remote working

We have a great little office in London, but wherever you are most comfortable working, that's fine by us. If you do happen to come into the office, we get Graze snacks sent in every week and work just around the corner from one of London's best street-food markets, Whitecross Street Market, where we get our lunch together almost every day.

We will always be flexible on hours and if you have a family, we understand that they will always be your number one priority.

Stock Plan

We have a generous employee stock plan - and have allocated 20% of our shares to the employee pool (most startups are closer to 10-15%).

Help Scout

PHP Software Engineer

Help Scout

2yr

Apply

Summary

PHP runs a lot of what we do here at Help Scout. It drives most new features, integrations and all our back-end admin tools. We have ambitious plans for the future and are looking for customer-driven engineers to help us craft a wonderful product experience. You’ll be joining three other senior level engineers on our Platform team to create software used by over 4,000 (and growing!) companies around the world.

Tools We Use

  • PHP - the test-driven, object-oriented kind
  • Backbone.js, Marionette and jQuery
  • Node.js
  • RabbitMQ
  • Java (APIs)
  • MySQL and MongoDB
  • Git + Github
  • AWS

    About the Role

  • The engineering team currently has about fourteen people, three of whom will be your teammates on the Platform team. On a typical day you may help a customer with an issue, add a feature to our back-end admin tool or start work on a third party integration.
  • The Help Scout front-end is built with Backbone.js and Marionette, so you’ll be writing JavaScript as well. Building something new usually involves pulling in data from a Java API endpoint, creating a PHP passthrough and implementing the front-end components in JavaScript.
  • Your team works in two-week sprints and communicates mostly via Slack. When you finish a project and send a pull request, your teammates review the code and test cases (often over a screen-sharing session) before pushing to production. You’ll work autonomously for the most part and we trust you to get work done when/where you can be productive.
  • The Platform team is the first line of engineering support when a question can’t be answered by our in-house support team. We’ll get you up-to-speed with engineering support so you can help us craft a customer experience that’s always getting better.

    About You

  • You are very experienced with modern PHP development practices and open source frameworks. You’ve worked on these sorts of projects at scale and feel confident solving complex problems.
  • You have created Backbone (or similar framework) apps before and can write JavaScript from scratch to implement a feature. Marionette experience is a bonus, but not required. We can help you pick it up.
  • Your code is not only reliable and performant for customers, but can be read, maintained and understood easily by other engineers on your team. You can also speak and write in terms that non-geeks understand. Clear communication is super important in a remote culture like ours.
  • You believe remote teams are the future of work, or are at least excited about the idea. You have experience working with remote teams or can adjust your work/management style to be remote-friendly.

    About Us

  • Help Scout is a remote team with employees in eleven states and six countries (seven in the Boston office). We optimize the team for excellence over geography and overcome remote challenges through transparency, trust, and video conferencing.
  • We’re a customer-driven company and always will be. Everything follows the customer experience, no exceptions. There is no sales team. Everyone at Help Scout is aligned in their motivation to create outstanding content and build a product that is a pleasure for businesses to use.
  • Our company is growing quickly and has aspirations of helping millions of people around the world. Accomplishing our goals will present countless challenges and require you to excel in every aspect of the position. It’s super hard, but the people we’re looking for love tackling hard problems.
  • This is not the typical startup “rocketship”. We’ll never compromise customers or the experience in favor of growth. Our purpose is to build a profitable company that small businesses love and sustain it for the long term. There are no kegerators, playgrounds or Xboxes. Instead, we’d prefer employees to have a sustainable work/life balance and for their career at Help Scout to be a long one.

    Benefits

  • Work anywhere - work in our Boston office or anywhere in the world, as long as you have 4 hours overlap with your team
  • Health & dental - we cover you and your family's health/dental insurance 100% and reimburse up to half of your deductible
  • Flexible vacation - take time off when you need it, we trust you
  • Great tools - each employee needs a Mac laptop and 27' display, so we'll get you what you need
  • Professional development - everyone gets a stipend they can use to become better at their craft
  • Complete transparency - everyone has full access to business metrics and financial information about the company

Help Scout supports workplace diversity and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, gender identity or expression, national origin, age, military service eligibility, veteran status, sexual orientation, marital status, physical or mental disability, or any other protected class.

Help us plan, build and maintain the infrastructure behind our services layer.

We're already handling hundreds of millions of requests, and are expect significant growth in the coming months as we roll out our product set and continue to evolve and build out platforms for our key clients.

Everyone in our engineering team helps solve interesting problems with scaling, machine learning, data visualisation, our API architecture and core development framework. To date this has included our core infrastructure in AWS, the Google Cloud and other platforms. We're not at a size where we need to split out responsibilties in this area.

This is a ground floor opportunity for the right engineer to take the reins of a young, exciting and growing infrastructure, to plan for and support our rapid growth, and to build an opperations team that meets the needs of the wider business.

Why DADI+?

Early on we realised that, to attract the best people, we had to be flexible. We had to look outside the M25 and trust our people to work however suits them.

We think it makes DADI+ a pretty special place to work.

Our principles at work:

  • Work asynchronously. Individual team members more or less works at their own pace, with collaboration and agreement being handled by asynchronous mechanisms
  • No 9 to 5. Get the job done on time (and don't upset the client) and you can work the hours you want
  • Work at your own pace. We handle things like collaboration and sign off through the best tools for the job, all in support of asynchronous working
  • Minimal meetings. Unless we really need to powwow in person, we keep in touch using cloud-based tools like Slack (much more efficient, believe us)
  • Work where you want. Yes, be diligent, stick to deadlines and do great work. But where and how you do it is up to you

Find out more about how we work.

    What we're looking for:

We are looking for a driven and focused individual with a proven record of delivering large-scale infrastructure and supporting multiple products for a global audience.

In terms of skill set, you will have:

  • Significant experience with AWS, including EC2, Route 53, S3, Cloudfront and ElastiCache
  • Deep understand and proven experience working with Ubuntu
  • Experience with Redis, Node JS and MongoDB
  • Experience wotrking with APIs and with JSON
  • A proven understanding of the fundamentals of digital technology
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience managing and reporting against budgets
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritise and motivate teams

Apply

We are looking for an experienced sysadmin to scale an awesome international team. That's a posting for outside the USA, only remote. Right now the team consists of 4 great admins and we have a lot more work :)

Some background about our team and you:

  • We don't like bureaucracy. You are allowed to discuss any issue with any from the team including our CEO
  • We push changes live a few times a day.
  • The tasks you would work on may be quick and simple or very long and complex.
  • Our setup is about 100 servers in total. A few instances for mongo, mysql, redis, light frontends with nginx/varnish, heavy backends with uwsgi and django, a pool of servers for celery, EdgeCast cdn, etc. The servers are in AWS in 2 datacenters and 3 zones.
  • It's highly encouraged to show initiative and suggest new ideas. We understand that business goals come first but we try to keep our code clean
  • Your biggest responsibility as a sysadmin is communication.
  • You care about how your work and attitude affects those around you. I mean really care. If you hurt someone, it hurts you. Everything you do runs through this filter.
  • Everyone knows that when you take on a task whether it’s huge and scary or tiny and boring, you’re going to see it through to the best of your ability.
  • You are humble enough to bend to the will of the tools, technologies, constraints, and people you work with when doing so won’t have a materially negative impact. In other words, you can play by someone else’s rules when that’s the easiest and/or best thing to do.
  • You make pragmatic (often boring) technology choices at work and you play in your free time. You don’t build science projects just because you are smart enough to build them.
  • You are confident enough that you don’t have to prove to anyone what a great sysadmin you are, and therefore…
  • You don’t mind being the one that looks bad when you deserve it. You make mistakes sometimes, because you’re human, but rather than dwell on them you choose to fix and then learn from them.
  • You love to teach and learn from your co-workers.
  • Our backend, slicing and frontend teams are always happy to help
  • We offer paid vacation, paid sick days and local holidays in your country
  • You have flexible working hours when it's most comfortable for you

    Skills & Requirements

  • experience with AWS
  • dealing with mysql, mongodb, redis, uwsgi, nginx, varnish

  • Real-time infrastructure experience (Meteor, Socket.io, Node.js)
  • Database Experience (we use MySQL and MongoDB)
  • Asana or Trello Experience

    Perks For This Position

  • Rapid development environment with code deploys as often as several times a day.
  • Well defined work, but the ability to work in the order of the various projects as you feel makes the most sense.

Our customer base is growing quickly, and we want your combination of tech and people skills to help our customers solve problems and get the most out of their databases at Compose. We operate a fleet of various databases, so there's something for everyone: MongoDB, PostgreSQL, Redis, Elasticsearch, RethinkDB, InfluxDB and likely many more!

If you are a developer, DevOps/SRE magician, or database junkie and know how to help developers with technical questions, we want to talk to you. You will be most effective if you have an inquisitive nature, love to learn, and can read and tweak source code written in a variety of languages. We're not just looking to fight fires, we're looking to prevent them. We pride ourselves in providing top-notch support and guidance, so being able to communicate effectively with empathy and compassion is a must.

This is the perfect position for a smart hacker who wants to gain experience at a customer-focused infrastructure startup. Spending time with our customers and product will let you improve your tech chops vastly, and should be solid preparation for a high-end distributed systems engineering position (we need those too, so if you start on support and do a great job, there's a huge amount of room for growth).

Our crew are deep analytical thinkers, group participants, and tenacious bug-squashers. Sound like you? Talk to us about the engineering problems we help customers with every day.

We keep our hiring process pretty straight forward and it's better than what you're use to. How does it work you ask? We start with sample exercises. These are real-world problems our team handles every day. They show you what work at Compose is like (so you can decide if it's a good fit for you) and your responses show us how you work (and we can see how you'd fit at Compose). After we get your sample exercises back and our team objectively looks over them (they don't know anything about applicants, they just see the samples), we'll schedule a group interview (usually over Google Hangout). Once that's behind you, you get a second interview with more Compose folks, and then the possibility of an offer. The whole process is pretty quick and usually done within a few weeks. Pretty cool, right?

About CoreSpring

CoreSpring.org is a non-profit company whose mission is to put good content, and state-of-the-art technology into the hands of teachers and product developers. We create web-based components and products to help teachers to deliver computer-based Formative assessments in their classrooms.

We are Looking For

We want to hire an engineer whose primary responsibility will be system operations:

  • Design, build and maintain the platform, processes and toolchain that allows developers to easily and frequently deliver and deploy quality software releases for our customers and for internal operational systems.
  • Develop processes to perform ongoing monitoring of effective performance of all operational systems.
  • Provide support and training for the platform and processes

We are a cross-functional development team, and the Operations Engineer will be a peer on that team. They will be expected to learn and understand the workings of our software (and if time allows, contribute to development) They will be supported in the development of operation systems by other members of the development team as needed.

We operate as a Devops team: Software deployments and system operation tasks are undertaken directly by developers. It will the the primary responsibility of the Operations Engineer to provide the toolchain and processes that make these tasks as simple and safe as possible.

We have a small, flexible, skilled team and want to find someone who is a good fit for how we work: Someone who is creative but pragmatic in their approach to software solution design. Someone who works well with a team, but is also happy working independently on a project if needed. Someone who believes in test-driven development, and who we can rely on to produce high-quality, clean and effective code, and help keep the rest of us diligent about doing the same.

Please provide link to portfolio, github (or similar) when responding if available.

    Work Environment

We are a small company, and have a small development team (5-6 engineers) with most of the engineering team working remotely across the US and Europe.

It is a very interesting and meaningful project, exploring the boundaries of what's possible with the latest developments in browsers, and providing engaging experiences for students as they learn.

It is a fun team to work with, with a flat organization structure. All developers get to work on all parts of the system, and all developers get input into technical / architectural decisions.

We maintain a sane working environment and measure success in results delivered, not the schedule that was worked.

    We Use

  • Server Side: Scala, Play framework, Heroku, MongoDb/Mongolab, Jenkins CI
  • Client Side: AngularJS, bower, less, npm, grunt, jasmine, phantomjs
  • Collaboration: Hipchat, JIRA, Confluence, Google Hangouts, Join.me

  • You hate the corporate bureaucracy of a big company.
  • You're so over the chaos and uncertainty of a start-up. You like having reasonable hours and knowing that your job will be around next week.
  • Consulting/freelance is not your bag. You prefer to maintain and improve the products you've built rather than hand them off and move on.

This is a full-time, 40 hours per week, remote, W2 position with benefits (health/dental/vision/401k).

We require someone to work full time (approx 40 hours per week) on our projects, web apps built in node.js.

The projects are mostly at an early stage (prototype, or pre-prototype!), with one larger app running in production (Schedugram).

The tech stack we use is:

  • node.js / express
  • mongoDB/mongoose
  • mandrill (email)
  • async/Q (promises)
  • Stripe (payments)

And postgres for some projects, along with a bit of RabbitMQ/AMQP.

We are looking for someone mid-level with proven experience using Node and the above technologies. We are particularly looking for someone who can handle both backend (node) and frontend (AngularJS preferred, but open to alternatives – there will be some things server-side rendered too).

Dialogue Group builds tools that help people have conversations. That might mean a scheduling tool, a survey tool, or something else altogether! We're always iterating our projects and ideas, and there is a lot of things to get your teeth into.

You'll have a few years worth of experience with Node, having built or supported it in production on a sizeable codebase – that is, not just a TodoMVC app! I'd expect you to have some background in other languages etc.

You will be expected to work full-time (~40hr week), with at least 3-4 hours per day overlapping with our Australian team (GMT+11).

We are looking for someone who will work hard, and deliver daily code deployments (or at least committing their progress to git!).

2yr

Apply

The ideal engineer for this position has a high level of expertise with Solr specifically. We leverage Solr for several tools at Help Scout and are looking for someone that can improve and maintain our implementation as we grow.

Our engineering team is small (10), remote and responsible for supporting the code they write (talking to customers). There is no dedicated QA team, so we expect automated tests to be part of your development process. Due to our size and remote culture, Help Scout is not the right fit for entry-level or junior engineers at this time.

Tools We Use

  • Java 7 and 8
  • Play framework
  • MySQL, MongoDB, Solr
  • RabbitMQ
  • Git

    About the Role

  • You'll collaborate with the Operations team to scale our Solr infrastructure and work on improvements to the current codebase. Solr runs all search functions, reporting, folder views and other areas of the product.
  • You'll help to maintain the Help Scout APIs (internal and public) within a small team of passionate engineers. Your world includes everything from documentation to new endpoints and performance optimization. All new product features are built on the APIs and we'd like them to be a pleasure for developers to use as well.
  • The team consists of 10 senior-level engineers. Aside from a couple of weekly check-ins or project updates, you'll be able to work interruption-free. 90% of our communication happens over chat.
  • You'll be working with product people. The founders are technical and committed to creating a magical experience for customers. You'll deploy high quality work that moves the needle for businesses around the world.

    About You

  • You became an engineer because you like writing software that helps people.
  • You have a history of working on products at scale and can bring a high level of expertise to the business.
  • Your code is not only a pleasure for customers to use, but for other engineers to read and understand easily.
  • You can speak and write in terms that non-geeks can understand clearly, whether it be in a conference call, blog post or support email.

    Benefits

  • Work anywhere - work from our office in Boston or anywhere else, provided you have 4 hours of overlap with the team
  • Health/dental/vision - we cover you and your family's health/dental insurance 100% and reimburse up to half of your deductible. Short-term and long-term disability is offered at a very affordable rate.
  • Flexible vacation - take time off when you need it, we trust you
  • Great tools - each employee needs a Mac laptop and 27' display, so we'll get you what you need

2yr

Apply

If you were part of the Media Suite Team last month, you might have:

  • Attended company-wide Agile training;
  • Worked on a real time traffic monitoring and visualisation tool;
  • Contributed to a government-backed system to help plan, coordinate and collaborate on the Christchurch rebuild;
  • Enjoyed a retrospective session on a large project we rolled out just before Christmas;
  • Added a ton of new features to a clever online professional development tool;
  • Rolled out a large event website;
  • Got your head into a web tool for visualising road safety data;
  • Hacked on traffic light signals;
  • Deployed a website for a government agency
  • Eaten Yum Neua (usually a Wednesday);
  • Enjoyed our Friday developer lunch (where one of the team presents “something new” over pizza or sushi).
  • Helped plan New Zealands first Node.js Conference;

The good news is that we are looking for a talented software developer to join our team.

Our projects are generally interesting, large enough to get your teeth into but not so big that you get bogged down forever. We offer variety so you need to bring flexibility.

We use Agile methods (mostly based on Scrum) to deliver our projects and continually reflect upon and make improvements to our systems and processes.

You will be embedded into a multi-developer environment committed to a culture of testing, automation, peer review, knowledge sharing, professional development, remote working and embracing change.

Ideally you would have experience with (or a burning desire to learn) any of the following:

  • Node.js
  • AngularJS or Ember.js
  • SQL databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL)
  • NoSQL databases (MongoDB, CouchDB, Redis)
  • Other server side languages (ruby, python, php)

Why did we put the skill-set last? Because we genuinely value cultural fit and attitude ahead of specific experience. Even if you don’t have quite the right skills but think you can bring something we need - please get in touch. Just to be clear... the only non-negotiable is someone who is going to write great code.

Oh and we’re happy to consider hiring remote - we currently have people based in Christchurch, Wellington and Oslo, and from time to time working from cafes, houses, trains & airports.

If you have made it this far and are still interested, please email something that resembles a CV and cover letter explaining why you might be a great addition to the team. If we feel there is a possible match, we’ll get in touch with you to arrange an informal chat.

To find out about working with us make sure you read our careers page: http://mediasuite.co.nz/careers.php

With a fast-prototyping approach to a variety of projects, we’d love your help building a strong foundation.

Who we are

Planetary is a New York City-based digital product studio where happiness, empathy, and exploration are our core values. We want to inspire our clients and build products that will make them (and their customers) more productive and impactful in the industries they represent. We began as a remote team and, as such, have a relaxed, smart work environment with autonomy over your time, flexible hours, a virtual workspace (we use Slack), and freedom to travel.

What we’re looking for

You’re a backend or full-stack web developer capable of working with and building RESTful APIs, architecting databases, and rapidly prototyping software.

What’s important to us

We work with a huge variety of clients on a breadth of projects requiring different tools, libraries, and approaches. We most frequently use Node.js, Python, PHP, MongoDB, MySQL, Gulp, and SCSS. You need not be an expert at everything—we’ve all learned on the job.

We’re looking for someone self-driven who can kick-off a project and pace themselves well. Ideally, you’d be a backend developer who is comfortable working from wireframes, can rapidly prototype features in code, and works autonomously, without supervision.

Where you’ll work

Wherever you’re happiest. While Planetary is based in New York City, you can work from anywhere you’re comfortable and productive.

Perks

We’re big on work/life balance — you should be able to enjoy what you do and do what you enjoy. To that end you can work from where you like, have flexible hours, and get generous paid time off.
