We are dedicated to supporting developers within and outside of the Wikimedia Movement who create and use Open Source solutions to technical problems. You are comfortable sharing ideas, providing guidance and technical support, speaking in public, and communicating via asynchronous channels (mailing lists/forums/IRC). Our teams work remotely and so can you!\n\nThe Wikimedia Foundation is passionate about making it easier for people to use Wikimedia APIs and to contribute to the numerous Free and Open Source software (FOSS) projects that the Wikimedia movement relies on to power their wikis. Our Developer Advocates provide technical support; run workshops; produce sample code, tutorials,  and other documentation; and help to create a fun, inclusive and productive environment for our international technical communities.\n\nWe’d like you to do these things:   \n\n\n* Support and nurture a vibrant community of tool developers and API consumers.\n\n* Collaborate with volunteer developers as well as other teams and organizations across the Wikimedia Movement and beyond.\n\n* Help developers to diagnose and resolve technical issues with our Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) and Platform as a Service (PaaS) platforms and their code.\n\n* Produce tutorials, documentation, and sample code demonstrating best practices in the use of Wikimedia APIs and datasets to build tools and other software for the Wikimedia projects.\n\n* Conduct trainings and workshops and provide space for discussions and peer-learning both online and at movement events.\n\n* Mentor technical contributors toin FOSS development practices and local community norms.\n\n* Talk with teams, individual contributors at Wikimedia Foundation, and community volunteers to obtain an in-depth understanding of needs and requirements of technical contributors\n\n\n\n\nWe’d like you to have these skills:\n\n\n* Strong interpersonal skills, with a track record of modeling collaborative development practices.\n\n* Demonstrated experience with one or more scripting languages in a Linux/Unix environment, such as: Python, Javascript, Node.js, PHP.\n\n* Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.\n\n* Good analytical and problem-solving skills.\n\n* BS in Computer Science or other relevant technical field or the equivalent in related work experience.\n\n\n\n\nAnd it would be even more awesome if you have this:\n\n\n* Experience working with geographically distributed software engineering teams\n\n\n\n\n\n* Experience participating in FOSS projects or online volunteer communities\n\n* Ability to read and write multiple (human) languages\n\n* Familiarity with MediaWiki and/or MediaWiki APIs\n\n* Experience with writing and optimizing SQL queries\n\n* Experience with one or more cloud computing environments (OpenStack, AWS, GCP/GKE, Azure, DigitalOcean, Heroku, etc)\n\n\n\n\nShow us your stuff!\n\nIf you have participated in on-line collaborative communities please share links with us.
