\nSystems Administrator/ Network Engineer\n\nDesign it. Build it. Manage it. Make it hum.\n\nPivotal is seeking a Operations Engineer to join our Infrastructure Operations (IOPS) team in designing, building and managing our physical, virtual and cloud based infrastructure. \n\nDo you set up your own labs for fun? Have you ever tried to actually replace yourself with a small shell script? Do you see networks and systems as two sides of the same coin? Do you think that the future of system infrastructures is more brilliant than the past? Then it’s time for us to talk.\n\nWho is Pivotal?\n\nWe are a global software and services company, and we want to transform the way the world builds software. We’re building a Pivotal suite of software and services to let everyone, from big to small, create great software of their own. Our people are diverse, distributed and are world-class talents in their fields. \n\nWhat does Pivotal IOPS do?\n\nIOPS is Pivotal’s Infrastructure Operations team. We build and manage the core IT infrastructure for Pivotal which includes the core networks, systems, applications and services necessary for the rest Pivotal to function smoothly. This includes everything from Wi-fi to DNS to firewalls to applications like IPAM and DCIM. We believe that practically everything can be defined and managed in software and we can manage switches, deploy VMs and write code. We maintain the entire global infrastructure and as such, our staff is distributed across many locations. We are diverse, welcoming and we work vey closely together.\n\nWhat do we need from you?\n\nSystems and network engineering talent and experience. You will be the senior IOPS engineer in EMEA, and most of your teammates will be in different time zones, so effective independence and comfort with remote collaboration is a must.\n\nYou should be fluid, comfortable and highly competent in a heterogeneous systems environment. We are Mac-heavy on the user side and *nix-heavy on the server side. Which flavour of OS or distro shouldn’t matter to you. You should know Windows but prefer *nix. You should be equally comfortable in physical and virtualised environments for systems and networking. You should be familiar with cloud-based infrastructures such as vSphere, AWS and GCP. You don’t need to be a full-tilt developer but we write and maintain code and you should be familiar at least a couple programming languages such as Python or Ruby. We also use agile methodologies and pair as much as possible, so familiarity with Kanban, XP, etc. is a big plus.\n\nWe will work with many teams, communicate with many people, work with vendors, stay within budgets and meet deadlines. We design, plan, implement and maintain and we’re all as likely to set up Nginx as we are to sit down with executives. We share, communicate and train each other. We do travel as needed, but not all the time.\n\nWhat technologies do you use?\n\nSome keywords, of many, with no particular order or grouping: Juniper, Cisco, Palo Alto Networks, Meraki, NAC, LDAP, vSphere, Apache, Nginx, DNS, DHCP, config management such as Chef, Python, Ruby, OpenVPN, iptables, Graylog, MIT KRB5, AWS, NAS, iSCSI, git, SVN, IPAM, DCIM, SAML, DevOps.\n\nQualifications and factors for success:\n\n\n* Experience with small, medium and/or enterprise infrastructures.\n\n* The desire and ability to lead projects and potentially small teams.\n\n* Strong experience with virtualisation and cloud technologies such as VMware vSphere, VMware VCD, AWS, GCP, etc.\n\n* Experience working with and integrating SaaS providers.\n\n* Programming skills in relevant languages such as Python, Ruby or Perl, is highly desirable.\n\n* Strong networking skill and competency from Layer 2 to Layer 7, bonus for Cisco and Juniper experience.\n\n* Strong security skills including firewall experience, bonus for Palo Alto Networks.\n\n* Very strong experience with multiple flavours of Unix/Linux and Windows.\n\n* The ability to develop creative solutions to problems, complex and mundane.\n\n* Strong team collaboration skills along with the ability to work independently.\n\n* Experience working with globally distributed networks, sites and groups.\n\n* Demonstrated ability to communicate at all levels of technical expertise and seniority, inside and outside the organisation, both verbally and in writing.\n\n* Education and certification is desirable but not required.\n\n\n\n\nPivotal is an Equal Employment Opportunity employer that will consider all qualified applicants, regardless of race, colour, religion, gender, sexual orientation, marital status, gender identity or expression, national origin, genetics, age, disability status, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by applicable law. \n\n#Salary and compensation\n
