\nHelp us build UrbanFootprint!\n\nGeospatial data is at the core of UrbanFootprint. We enable urban planners to model the impact of land use decisions by providing relevant data “out of the box” that typically takes days, weeks, or months to gather. In many cases this level of data insight us simply out of reach for most planning professionals and projects.\n\nWe are looking for an experienced data engineer to advance the data pipeline and analytics which power UrbanFootprint. You should have specific expertise with data pipelines, ETL processes, performance optimization, and all of the tooling that is required along the way. You’ll be an integral part of our growing team, bridging the gap between our Platform and Analysis teams. The ideal candidate will also have some data science and statistical experience.\n\nYou will:\n\n\n* Be a critical member of a well-funded and fast-moving team.\n\n* Design and develop the next generation of our data pipeline for ingesting geospatial datasets. This will likely involve leading the evaluation of existing solutions and assessing the pros/cons of each.\n\n* Identify bottlenecks and recommend software and hardware solutions to solve issues.\n\n* Track key performance metrics over time to ensure we are constantly improving.\n\n* Create systems to validate input and ensure data consistency. Detect, debug, and fix data quality issues. Write tests to assert data quality. \n\n* Work with data scientists and software engineers to provide fast access to the data they need.\n\n\n\n\nSkills and Requirements:\n\n\n* Proficiency with Python, SQL, and other programming languages commonly used as glue in data pipelines.\n\n* Experience with distributed data processing and storage systems.\n\n* Experience building solutions on AWS, including understanding when to use a hosted solution vs. managing our own.\n\n* Ability to assess and recommend performance improvements via parallelism, reevaluating existing algorithms/processes, evaluate tradeoffs of compute vs. storage, etc.\n\n\n\n\nBonus Qualifications:\n\n\n* Experience working with geospatial data, particularly using open source tools such as PostGIS, OpenStreetMap, and Geopandas.\n\n* DevOps experience.\n\n* Working knowledge of common GIS platforms.\n\n* Focus and interest on cities and sustainability.\n\n\n \n\n#Salary and compensation\n
