Location: San Francisco, CA or Remote\n\n\n\nType: Contract\n\nHours: 20 hours per week\n\nDuration: 3 months (with possibility for extension)\n\nSummary:\n\nThe Wikimedia Cloud Services team is looking for a part-time Technical Support specialist to help the Wikimedia movement's volunteer developers to rapidly clarify and resolve their technical questions and issues.\n\nCome work within the Cloud Services team at the Wikimedia Foundation! We are administering a public OpenStack cloud (Infrastructure as a Service) with a modern Platform as a Service (Kubernetes) running on it. We are dedicated to supporting developers within and outside of the Wikimedia Foundation and upholding the Code of Conduct for Wikimedia technical spaces. Candidates need to be comfortable sharing ideas, providing guidance, following instructions, mentoring volunteers, and communicating in public and asynchronous ways (mailing lists/forums/irc). Our team works remotely and so can you!\n\nResponsibilities:\n\n\n* Actively monitor various IRC channels, wikipages, and mailing lists, for support requests\n\n* Help volunteer developers to diagnose and resolve technical issues with our IaaS and PaaS infrastructure and their code\n\n* Communicate clearly and patiently with individuals from our international communities of volunteer developers\n\n* Write, verify, and improve documentation used by volunteer developers and technical staff\n\n* Ensure positive and constructive discussions with the community and the Wikimedia Foundation\n\n* Work and communicate effectively within a small team distributed across multiple time zones\n\n\n\n\nRequirements:\n\n\n* Strong interpersonal skills, with track record of modeling good social and development practices\n\n* Experience using a variety of communications and collaboration tools, including wikis, mailing lists, and group chat\n\n* Experience using Linux command line tools\n\n* Ability to understand and explain technical issues\n\n* Intermediate programing experience in one of the following languages: Python, PHP, JavaScript (node.js)\n\n* Ability to work both independently and as part of a distributed team\n\n\n\n\nPluses:\n\n\n* Experience working in the Wikimedia Toolforge or Cloud VPS environments\n\n* Experience with the Wikimedia community, or a similar open source or collaborative community\n\n* Familiarity with MediaWiki and/or MediaWiki APIs\n\n* Ability to read and write multiple (human) languages\n\n* Experience with writing and optimizing SQL queries\n\n* Proficiency in multiple programming languages\n\n* Experience with one or more cloud computing environments (OpenStack, AWS, GCP/GKE, Azure, DigitalOcean, Heroku, etc)\n\n* Experience with Linux systems administration\n\n\n\n\nShow us your stuff!\n\nIf you have participated in on-line collaborative communities please share links with us.
