\nAmerica for Animals is looking for a resourceful PHP/MySQL developer (contractor) to lead a software development effort on an exciting initiative to bring technology innovation to animal advocacy.\n\nWe are building a novel social engagement app for animal advocates, currently in the final stages of design and in the early stages of development. You’ll be part of a vibrant start-up environment, and will have a say in how we operate.\n\nYour responsibilities will include some of the following:\n\n\n* Build a responsive web app on the SocialEngine PHP platform. Prior experience with SocialEngine is a plus but not required.\n\n* API development and integration\n\n* Establish and manage the DevOps environment.\n\n* Work with technical/cloud operations on release management and system performance.\n\n* Participate in a weekly one-hour product call with the AFA product team.\n\n* Work with Product Owner and Product Managers to plan for future sprints and quarters, manage committed deliverables, shepherd cross-team dependencies, and assure a high level of quality.\n\n* Conduct code integration, system tests, and performance tests\n\n* Guide the processes, technologies, and methodologies of the development process, drawing from experience to provide leadership and expertise.\n\n* Manage resources, set the collaboration strategy and ensure deliverables according to the project milestones and deadlines.\n\n* Actively work with architects and leadership in continuously improving SDLC process and the efficiency and effectiveness of the engineering team\n\n* Build and maintain a strong team culture which promotes innovation, growth, and high morale.\n\n* Define software development best practices and hold team(s) accountable for utilizing them.\n\n* Independently resolve complex technical problems.\n\n\n\n\nThis is a flexible part-time, work from home, independent contractor role needed for the development of AFA’s latest app. You won’t be expected to travel. You will be needed to work approximately 15 hours per week paid at an hourly rate determined based on experience ($75-100/hour). As a volunteer-run nonprofit, we can't always pay top dollar, but the job will afford considerable intrinsic benefits, such as flexibility and opportunity to lead a high-impact project to help animals. The length of the app engagement is expected to be 3-4 months, with the continued engagement expected after the successful app launch.\n\nWe’re based in San Diego however our product team is virtual and spread across the US. A southern California-based candidate would be a big plus but a location anywhere globally is fine as long as you can attend virtual meetings as late as 8pm Pacific Time. \n\n#Salary and compensation\n
