We are seeking an electrical or mechatronic engineer to design, build, and test prototype sensors and communication systems for use by operators in disadvantaged environments. This engineer will be a critical participant in the overall product development process. We’re a distributed company with team members spanning the globe. This role can be based anywhere, with preferred start date on or before July 1.

The project will be discussed in greater detail with top candidates during interviews.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and modify electro-mechanical systems with emphasis on sensors and communication devices
  
• Troubleshoot electronic devices in workshop and in field
  
• Plan, prepare, and execute prototype field tests and collect data
  
• Document designs and test data
  
• Be an active contributor to the product development team
  
• Develop products for rugged environments and untrained operators
  
  Technical Skills and Qualifications
  
  
• Advanced understanding of electronics and mechanical systems
  
• Experience with analog and digital control systems
  
• Ability to build user interfaces (e.g., switches, keypads, LED displays, etc.)
  
• Experience programming and interfacing with embedded processors, microprocessors, and/or FPGAs
  
• Experience with RF hardware and software design (e.g., cables, connectors, amplifiers, filters, correlators, etc.)
  
• Experience designing printed circuit boards
  
• Experience with basic mechanical design, including housings, connectors, and thermal considerations
  
• Ability to communicate clearly with team and users
  
• Ability to create and document design plans (blueprints, schematics, etc.)
  
• User-based product design (e.g., ease, robustness, appeal) are a plus
  
• Experience with power electronics, motors, and other hardware a plus
