\nDev Ops (MoodleCloud)\n\nType: Full-time\n\nLocation: Between UTC-8 and UTC+1 (eg Europe, American continents)\n\nMoodle is an award-winning international open-source project providing essential software used by educational institutions and companies around the world. We have a growing community of millions of users, over 200 regular developers, and over 70 royalty-paying partner companies world-wide, all coordinated by our own team based in Perth, where Moodle was founded.\n\nWe are building a state-of-the-art MoodleCloud hosted service for educators worldwide. The MoodleCloud team is growing and is looking to engage an experienced, reliable, independent-working DevOps to join our collaborative team.\n\nThis position complements our MoodleCloud team in Australia by assisting with support, maintenance, deployments and upgrades of our MoodleCloud platform outside of Australian business hours.\n\nTo do this, you will need to have the capacity, experience and knowledge to understand our custom MoodleCloud stack and a variety of other Moodle community servers to a deep level quickly. Experience of large-scale hosting, and AWS services are expected.\n\nThis position expects a high level of problem solving, good communication, proven capacity for working independently, as well as flexibility to engage in occasional online synchronous team communication in out-of-business hours.\n\nYou will be working in an exciting new area of Moodle to develop Moodle services in new and innovative directions within our dedicated team.\n\nWhat you need for this position:\n\n\n* Relevant tertiary qualifications or demonstrably equivalent commercial experience, knowledge and understanding\n\n* Minimum of 3 years previous experience in a devops or developer/sysadmin role within Amazon Web Services\n\n* Understanding of contemporary Cloud architecture\n\n* Confidence to perform deployments, maintenance and upgrades independently\n\n* Ability to work with development teams to troubleshoot and debug production issues;\n\n* Proficiency in linux server administration (e.g. upgrades, patches)\n\n* Capacity to take direction from other team members and to work independently within an international, multi-timezone team context\n\n* Outstanding communication skills with both technical and non-technical staff from diverse backgrounds\n\n\n\n\nWhat you will gain:\n\n\n* competitive wages and benefits\n\n* a brilliant environment to work in\n\n* involvement in building a new Cloud service\n\n* experience working in an agile team\n\n* the knowledge you are helping education worldwide\n\n* further skills by working with high skilled peers and determining new solutions.\n\n\n\n\nWhat you’ll be doing:\n\n\n* monitoring and resolving Cloud issues and alerts\n\n* conducting upgrades, patches, maintenance improvements\n\n* evaluating system performance and contributing system improvements\n\n* progressing backend development tasks for new MoodleCloud services, and supporting some front end integrations\n\n* effectively and consistently communicating work tasks, progress, issues to the Perth-based team through the Moodle project and communication systems\n\n* providing Cloud and Moodle IT support when key sysadmin and MoodleCloud team members on leave\n\n\n\n\nWhat we especially like to see:\n\n\n* experience leading and working in a team in a development environment\n\n* previous contributions to open source projects\n\n* some experience in Cloud service maintenance and development.\n\n\n\n\nIf you are passionate, hard working, fit the above criteria, are awake when we are asleep and interested in applying for this position please send us your cover letter and resume and direct us to some examples of your work.\n\nPlease read the job description for this position before applying https://docs.google.com/document/d/1_xUWhpSKJ5SvuzEQpMvS9edLRGeSK4Qxoczk0gRHqq8/pub \n\n#Salary and compensation\n
