Mission for the CMO: Create and implement high-ROI marketing strategies that grow WordPress’ users and revenue, and enable the business to scale from 24% of the web to 51%+.

Role & Responsibility:

Define strategic marketing plan for the company.

Define and implement scalable marketing strategies and processes based on customer segments (e.g., small business) to drive market share expansion and increase revenues.

Clearly and effectively articulate the value proposition to maintain and create market awareness and increase paid users and free users.

Drive performance.

Prioritize marketing initiatives and customer segments that will directly increase the number of free and paid users.

Increase the number of paid users and free users with a focus on paid users.

Develop a detailed roadmap to ensure results are being measured and met.

Establish measurable KPIs, goals, and milestones and continually evaluate performance against standards and objectives regularly (i.e., ROI targets, number of paid users, percent of market, etc.).

Define the purpose and mission for where the marketing function is going and ensure alignment across the Bridge Team and the company.

Leverage user and industry market data to drive decision making that will lead to increased revenue growth and market expansion.

Cultivate a high-performance environment.

Establish trust and foster a sense of collaboration and transparency across the organization.

Hire and retain A+ marketing talent.

Promote a marketing culture that focuses on data and analytics to inform decisions.

Encourage idea generation.

Be approachable and provide hands-on execution and leadership across marketing initiatives.

Drive marketing excellence.

Create and drive a data informed, efficient, and scalable marketing function that will win credibility within our engineering-focused organization.

Ensure the right mechanisms (i.e., marketing technology/systems, processes, etc.) are in place to successfully execute against marketing strategies.

Communicate marketing strategies and initiatives and get buy-in across all levels of company (i.e., Bridge Team, product managers, etc.).

Act as a trusted advisor to the Bridge Team and across the company on marketing initiatives and marketing strategies.

Experience and Background:

6+ years of relevant experience (focus on SMB and/or direct-to-consumer ideal).

Proven experience driving market penetration and driving net new revenue in a growth environment.

Track record of delivering a high marketing ROI and leading a successful marketing function within an internet, open source, SaaS or eCommerce company.

Expertise in multiple channels (i.e., social, mobile).

Expertise in Direct Response Marketing, particularly in driving online conversions.

Experience targeting small businesses and direct consumers using display, email, and SEM with a working knowledge of SEO and advertising technology.

Proven history of turning MQLs into SQLs and maximizing return on marketing spend.

Experience executing and measuring the effectiveness of brand advertising campaigns or event-based marketing is a plus.

Experience redefining go-to-market strategies and developing different playbooks for customer segments.

Success in building, developing, and retaining a high-performing and collaborative marketing team.

High intellectual horsepower and ability to operate in a flat organization.
