\nAmerican Express is embarking on an exciting transformation, driven by an energetic team of high performers. The International Digital Acquisitions product team is accountable for delivery of online card acquisition journeys supporting the International Consumer Card business. The Senior Engineer will partner with the Product Owner and interfacing technology teams to define, design, and deliver new customer facing capabilities and web applications. This is a nimble and creative team chartered with driving a product roadmap while adopting new technologies and continuous integration tooling. The successful candidate will be part of a fast-paced, entrepreneurial team responsible for delivering world class experiences. They will be challenged with identifying innovative ideas and proof of concepts to meet the existing and future needs of American Express customers. As a Senior Engineer, the successful candidate will play a key role understanding product strategy and collaborating with peers, technology partners, and product owners to translate complex user stories into successful product releases in an agile environment. \n\nResponsibilities include: \n\nServing as a core member of an agile team that drives user story analysis and elaboration, designs and develops software applications, and integrates automation testing tooling \n\nOwning all technical aspects of software development (architecture, design, and development of systems) for assigned applications \n\nPerforming hands-on software development, typically spending about 50% of time writing code, doing proof of concepts, conducting code reviews and testing ongoing sprints \n\nOngoing refactoring of code, utilizing visualization and other techniques to fast track concepts, and delivering continuous improvement \n\nDeveloping a deep understanding of integrations with other systems and platforms within the supported domains\n\nWorking with technical product managers contributing to blueprints, and assisting with annual planning of feature sets \n\nIdentifying exciting opportunities to adopt new technologies to solve existing needs and future challenges \n\nMentoring other Software Engineers, may have management responsibilities over 2-3 Software Engineers \n\nManaging time, and working well both independently and as part of a team. \n\nConverting HTML prototypes into functioning Web Applications through the integration of back-end data and process services \n\nEmbracing emerging standards while promoting best practices and consistent usage of frameworks/design patterns \n\n\n Offer of employment with American Express is conditioned upon the successful completion of a background verification check, subject to applicable laws and regulations.\nQualifications\nThis high energy Senior Engineer must have: \n\n5+ years of software development experience and preferably a BS or MS degree in computer engineering, computer science, or other technical discipline \n\nDemonstrated experience in Agile development, application design, software development, and testing \n\nExpertise with Java application design and development in an Enterprise setting using J2EE, Spring, and SQL \n\nExpertise in Objected Oriented Analysis and Design across a variety of platforms \n\nExpertise in applying SOA concepts for services design and development. \n\n Thorough understanding of XML, JSON, Web Service technologies, and data structure fundamentals \n\nExperience with HTML/XHTML, CSS, JavaScript, AJAX, DOM, and version control systems (such as svn, git) \n\nExperience with continuous integration and automation testing frameworks (JUnit, TestNG, Selenium, SOAP UI) \n\nExperience with adaptive and responsive development techniques \n\nExperience designing scalable solutions which easily extend to additional markets/languages, including expertise with Internationalization and Localization frameworks\n\nA strong desire to identify, learn and adapt new technologies as applicable to solve business challenges\n\nAbility to effectively communicate with business and technology partners \nAmerican Express is an equal opportunity employer and makes employment decisions without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, protected veteran status, disability status, or any other status protected by law.
