\nWe’re building a web application that will help people explore and visualize 100's of millions of objects at interactive rates. We’re looking for somebody to architect the application, help hire a team, and then lead the development effort and bring the application into production. The implementation is from scratch, but is based on experience with an in-production legacy system, so the requirements are as solid as they come.\n\nThis is a full-time position offering a market-competitive salary and benefits. Teraviz is being built by a small (but growing) and very stable company that has been delivering big-data solutions for decades. The team is distributed, but you will need to travel regularly (once or twice a month) to the East Coast for in-person meetings, candidates along the Boston-Washington Corridor may find this easier.\n\nYou will need to have full-stack understanding of everything from how databases work to how to design a GUI, and will be expected to do significant coding. The database has been chosen, but you'll be responsible for picking the rest of the technology stack. Knowledge of web visualization technologies, for example D3.js, would be great. However, you won’t need to do it alone, as you will help choose 2-3 more people to round out your development team.\n\nYou will need to have led a small team before, be experienced enough to recognize “danger areas” in the plans and schedules you put together, and have reasoned opinions on architectural approaches and development methodologies. You’ll also need to feel comfortable communicating with company management about plans, including justifying budget proposals and updating them on progress.\n\nSince the project involves integrating with new database technology (we’re one of the first few licensees), there’s no way to ask for experience with that aspect. Instead, we need somebody who can get up to speed quickly. We believe that requires an existing strong understanding of how databases work down to a fairly low level. To be clear, you won’t need to do implementation work on the database (it’s a very new commercial off-the-shelf system), but you will need to know enough to recognize when things are going sideways and be able to communicate effectively with the vendor's field engineers.\n\nIf you're interested and think you can do the job, please contact us and we can answer any questions and get you additional details. \n\n#Salary and compensation\n
