*Before you start reading, keep in mind that the aim of this job ad is to give you a feel for what it’s like to work at Catapult. There’s lots of research that suggests people often don’t apply because of so-called “requirements” in a job description. If you’re experienced in React, Rails or Elixir and open to working across the stack, we’d love to hear from you! *\n\n**What you’re getting yourself into**\nOur mission is to build the world’s best, flexible job. We spend our time thinking about how to give a global workforce complete control of their own work life while automating the hundreds of thousands of man hours which would normally be required to manage people on this scale.\n\nWe do this using React & Typescript on the frontend backed up by GraphQL servers, some written in Ruby and Rails and some in Elixir and Phoenix.\n\nBusinesses ranging from the largest high-street retailers to five star hotels and independent coffee boutiques rely on Catapult as their casual workforce. If you’ve spent time in a large UK city, you’ve probably been served by a Catapult waiter or sales assistant without even realising it! \n\nWe’re well funded by some amazing investors, our product is live in over 100 locations across the UK and we’ve recently launched in Berlin making us the first and only pan-european player in this space.\n\nOur company values https://writing.joincatapult.com/our-values/ are really important to us and influence every facet of how we work together.\n\n**Things we’ve been working on recently**\nNo two days are ever the same in a startup, but to give you a flavour of what we’ve been up to recently:\n\n* Standardising on React, Typescript and GraphQL across our suite of applications\n* Using Kubernetes to automatically deploy standalone environments for our feature branches, complete with anonymised production data\n* Applying machine learning to the billions of data points we generate each year to completely obsolete the interview process\n* Preparing the entire Rails, Phoenix, React and React Native environment for Globalization\n\n**About Us**\nWe’ve been growing rapidly over the last three years and as we continue our international roll out, we’re looking for ambitious engineers to help us build the future of work. Our engineering principles https://writing.joincatapult.com/engineering-principles/ give a good feel for how we work together and what we value. \n\nWe’re a distributed, remote first engineering organisation with team members in Prague, Gdansk, London, Bristol, Bournemouth and Bangkok. We work in autonomous pods, each of which has ownership of one area of our business. We’re open to remote applicants from anywhere within the EU.\n\n**Benefits**\nAs well as being a part of a well funded startup at one of the most exciting phases of it’s growth, you’ll get:\n\n* Competitive salary + stock options + 25 days paid holiday per year (and a very permissive unpaid leave policy)\n* For every year you're at Catapult, get an extra day of paid holiday\n* A strong approach to professional development and mentorship, everyone has a dedicated L&D budget for books, training and the like\n* Several product retreats per year where the whole team goes on a team retreat, looks back on how we can improve and then spends a week or so hacking on new ideas and exploring new technologies\n* Regular social events & the opportunity to travel to our other offices\n* Company Macbook Pro and generous equipment budget to get your perfect setup\n* A flexible work environment focussed on output not hours\n* Unlimited books (any book, ebook or audio book you want, we'll cover it!)\n\n# Responsibilities\n No two days are the same, but you'll be working with a diverse, remote team following an agile, sprint based process. \n\n# Requirements\nWe're not big on fixed requirements but it's quite likely:\n\n* You're heavily product focussed, you love building and shipping things people will actually use and enjoy thinking about the user and their perspective as well as the technical solution\n* You really buy into the importance of getting things into the hands of a user quickly and then iterating\n* You actively think about when to incur technical debt and when to pay it back\n* You like to explore new technologies and have a keen eye for when something new can add real business value \n* You’re in favour of, but pragmatic about, automated testing. You like all production grade code to have good test coverage but understand when it may make sense to test MVP’s with a lower degree of test coverage\n\nWe generally look for “T shaped” engineers, people who are happy to work across the stack but have a particular leaning. We’re looking for a few different “leanings” at the moment so probably one of the following applies to you:\n\n* You’re passionate about building frontends in React, you’ve either worked with or want to work with React Native and if you’re not already a Typescript & GraphQL user, you’re excited for their potential to improve the way we build complex client applications\n* You’re an engineer but secretly love infrastructure and devops. You’re just as happy writing Ansible scripts, tweaking kubernetes or finding crazy new ways for CI to make our lives better\n* You’ve been getting deeper and deeper into Elixir and Phoenix over the last few years and as much as you enjoy Rails, you feel like Elixir just might be the future. You love explaining to people what a GenServer is and why it’s awesome\n* You’ve spent a lot of time working with data scientists recently, helping to embed the models they build in production systems \n\n#Salary and compensation\n$75,000/year\n\n\n#Location\nEU Only

### About us:\n\nSince 2005, over 300,000 websites have used Crazy Egg to understand how their audience experiences their website and their product. We are pioneers in data visualization, in conversion rate optimization, and in helping small and medium businesses get immense value quickly and accurately from incredibly large data sets. That's what we love to do. We are looking for a product and customer minded Full Stack Engineer to help build on that foundation and improve our product, and the tools, technology and platform we use to help our customers. You will be joining Crazy Egg as a Full Stack Engineer and help in scaling our systems and move us towards a service oriented architecture. Here's what that looks like at Crazy Egg, and here are the values you’d be excited to stand behind:\n\n### As a team we strive for:\n\n- Direct, undeniable, customer impact. We have incredible customers that we're grateful for and we believe the best teammates are the ones who, regardless of function or discipline, are eager and excited to find a way to connect their work directly to customers.\n- Trusted independence with interdependence. You are fully trusted as a full owner of the work you do; self-determined, responsible, accountable, and celebrated. With that freedom, you acknowledge, a broader social context. We work together, we partner, we collaborate, and we make sure the work we take on and hand off is done thoughtfully and with care.\n- Assume positive intent. All outcomes may not be what we desired, what we expected, or what we needed. But they happened because people take chances and are willing to make decisions. We assume people try their hardest and try their best, we assume their actions started with the most positive of intentions. Every conversation, assessment, piece of feedback, starts with that assumption, on both sides. This ensures our team is built on a foundation of trust.\n- Care and inclusion; sincerely. We work at Crazy Egg because we believe in the opportunity, we believe in the vision, we believe in our people, and we believe in our ability to build something wonderful. It is those beliefs that also mean we care about the market, we care about the vision, we care about each other, and we care about building something wonderful. When all of this falls into place, our customers are able to build better businesses and succeed.\n\n\n### As an engineer what we hope you strive for:\n\n- The ability to work independently and with other engineers to develop new user experience-focused web applications, or provide support for existing systems.\n- Have the ability to work on multiple parts of a web application, from internal backend APIs to dynamic frontend interfaces.\n- Collaborate with designers, front-end specialists, other engineers, stakeholders, and clients to understand business goals, analyze requirements, formulate solutions, and ensure the successful execution and delivery of the end product using the best technologies.\n- Assist in scoping, estimating, and planning of projects.\n- Participate in code review, pairing, and other forms of knowledge sharing.\n- Support of production applications may be required on some projects.\n- Mentoring and helping others grow and make an impact\n\n### Experience and Skills we’re looking for:\n\n- Prior experience in developing single page applications - We use Ember.js/React/Redux/GraphQL\n- Prior experience developing web applications using web frameworks - We use Ruby on Rails/Node/Elixir/Phoenix.\n- Excellent planning, communication and collaboration skills\n- Understanding of best practices for web development and software design\n\n### Nice to have, but not required experience:\n\n- Previous remote working experience (nice to have but not necessarily required)\n- Prior client services, consulting, or freelancing experience\n- Working in a startup environment\n- Previous role as a team leader\n- Working on web applications that process large volumes of data and/or receive high volumes of traffic\n- Using a variety of AWS tools\n- Using Docker and Kubernetes in a production environment\n\n\n### Perks and Benefits\n\n- We believe in building the best team possible, regardless of geographic location. Our team is fully distributed all over the world and we believe in working where you’re the most productive and happiest.\n- We have full trust in you and believe in finding a good balance. Work should be a paced marathon, not a sprint, and so. \n- We have an unlimited vacation policy.\n- We provide full benefits of Dental/Medical.\n- We believe in supporting your growth and opportunity. Crazy Egg was founded 14 years ago by accomplished founders.\n- If you’re looking to learn what it takes to one day break off on your own and start your own startup, we think this is a good opportunity for you.\n\n#### Direct applicants only. No recruiters please.\n\nIf you’re interested in joining us, please share a bit about yourself, your background, and why you’re interested in joining our team to [email protected]

**DESCRIPTION**\n\nBefore you start reading, keep in mind that the aim of this job ad is to give you a feel for what it’s like to work at Catapult. There’s lots of research which suggests people often don’t apply because of so-called “requirements” in a job description. If you’re an experienced engineer, like the sound of working here and see something you’re not an expert in yet, that’s great, apply and you can learn it here!\n\nWhat you’re getting yourself in for\n\nOur mission is to build the worlds best part time job. We spend our time thinking about how to give a global workforce complete control of their own work life while completely automating the hundreds of thousands of man hours which would normally be required to manage people on this scale.\n\nWe do this through React Native based iOS and Android applications, React based web applications, a mixture of Ruby/ Rails and Phoenix/ Elixir on the backend and Rest API’s to communicate with machine learning services from our data science team.\n\nBusinesses ranging from the largest high-street retailers to five star hotels and and independent coffee boutiques rely on Catapult as their casual workforce. If you’ve spent time in London, you’ve probably been served by a Catapult waiter or sales assistant without even realising it!\n\nOur company values https://writing.joincatapult.com/our-values/ are really important to us and influence every facet of how we work together.\n\nThings we’ve been working on recently\n\nNo two days are ever the same in a startup, but to give you a flavour of what we’ve been up to recently:\n\nBuilding a stand-alone signup service to test different approaches to user on-boarding. We took this as an opportunity to test out Phoenix + GraphQL. We were so impressed with the productivity boost we’re also now incorporating GraphQL into our primary Rails application\nUsing Kubernetes to deploy standalone environments for our feature branches, complete with anonymised production data\nRe-thinking how we test Javascript and what the line should be between unit tests and acceptance tests\nAbout the role\n\nWe’ve been growing rapidly over the last three years and as we start our international roll out, we’re looking for ambitious engineers to help us build the future of work. Our engineering principles https://writing.joincatapult.com/engineering-principles/ give a good feel for how we work together and what we value.\n\nYou’ll be working joining out remote team so working from anywhere in Europe is fine! We work in small cross-functional pods of developers who focus on a particular product area and encourage people to rotate across teams.\n\n**REQUIREMENTS**\n\nWe've found that the best developers are outliers so these are guidelines rather than firm requirements. If you're passionate about building great software, finding the best tools for the job and learning new skills, we'd like to hear from you!\n\nAbout You\n\n* Solid experience developing web or mobile applications commercially\n* You really buy into the importance of getting things into the hands of a user quickly and then iterating\n* You actively think about when to incur technical debt and when to pay it back\n* You like to explore new technologies and have a keen eye for when something new can add real business value\n* Bonus points for Rails, React, Phoenix or GraphQL\n\n**BENEFITS**\n\nAs well as being a part of a well funded startup at one of the most exciting phases of it’s growth, you’ll get:\n\n* Competitive salary + stock options\n* A strong approach to professional development and mentorship, everyone has a dedicated L&D budget for books, training, conferences and the like\n* Product retreats at least every two months where the whole team either comes to London or goes somewhere warm (the next one's in Lisbon!), looks back on how we can improve and then spends a week together hacking on new ideas and exploring new technologies\n* Regular social events & the opportunity to travel to our other offices\n* Company Macbook Pro which you’re free to take home\n* A flexible work environment focused on output not hours\n* 25 days holiday + bank holidays\n

**Plug in Useful make some of the [most popular SaaS web apps for Shopify](http://https://www.pluginuseful.com/collections/apps). With over 100k users we've followed the rapid growth of Shopify and are looking to add a senior engineer to our 100% remote team of six.**\n\nAs a Senior Software Engineer you'll have worked with React and Rails before and ideally have used the Flux pattern on a decent-sized web app. You can both architect software, building it from the ground up, and maintain existing systems in a thoughtful way.\n\nJust as important is how you approach problems and work in the team. We don't want someone who puts their headphones on for three days and churns out code. Your instinct is to collaborate.\n\nYou'll work closely with our product manager to gather requirements, come up with technical solutions, present these in a clear non-technical way and agree on what to do.\n\nYou'll both mentor and learn from our software engineer through code reviews and working on problems together. And you'll help our QA tester to understand changes, how best to test them and be responsive in fixing bugs.\n\nWe're 100% remote across different timezones so clear, regular communication is key. Your location isn't important as long as there's a roughly 4 hour overlap with Eastern Time and European Time.\n\nYou're experienced in working remotely and have found a schedule and setup that works best for you. If that's a coworking space we can pay for that, but that's optional since you decide where you're at your most productive.\n\n### Skills & Experience\n* 1+ years React or similar frontend frameworks\n* 3+ years Rails\n* 5+ years software engineering\n* Have worked on web apps, ideally B2B SaaS\n* Software architecture\n* Have used a few different software patterns\n* Very collaborative\n* Clear non-technical communicator\n* Have worked remotely\n* Curious about new technologies\n* Ideally have worked with Kanban \n\nFull time, 100% remote from any location with a 4 hour overlap with Eastern Time and European Time. We believe strongly in work/life balance with reasonable hours (usually 37.5 hours or occasionally more when required) and paid time off. \n\n# Requirements\nApply by sending your CV and a brief email intro to [email protected] We love it when you mention something from the job description.

\nSupreme Golf is looking for a backend developer to work on our golf tee time aggregation service. Working with design/development leads, you will be involved in all aspects of development, including planning, execution and testing. You are someone who solves problems creatively, learns quickly and doesn't mind getting outside of your comfort zone.\n\n\n\nWe are looking for someone comfortable working the full stack, but understand that it's impractical to be an expert in everything. If you like to dabble in the graphic design space or are have experience on the frontend, that works for us as we overlap in responsibilities. We are not looking for people that dream about the Redis protocol or CSS3 transformations. However, if you dream about golf, that's okay, so do we. We are not looking for ninjas, Jedi, or rockstars. We are looking for people passionate about work — at work.\n\n\n\nWe are looking for someone that has experience in the following technologies and tools: Amazon S3, Ansible, Debian, Git, GitHub, HAML, Honeybadger, Linode, jQuery, Mandrill, Middleman, NGiNX, Passenger, PostgreSQL, ReactJS, RSpec, Rails 4.2, Redis, Ruby 2, SASS, Sidekiq, Twilio. We are looking for someone who can build for IE9+ and the latest versions of Safari, Chrome and Firefox.\n\nSupreme Golf is a small remote team with a fairly flat organizational structure. Some of us are in Dallas, Texas (Corporate Offices), some in Washington State, some on the East Coast. Our preference would be to hire someone located in or around Dallas, TX but we will accept applicants from anywhere in the United States.

\nHello! We’re Real HQ and we’re five years old. Since 2010, we’ve grown to 37 employees, maintained profitability, and significantly expanded our customer base. We have an office in Austin, TX but pride ourselves in being a remote company—more than half of our team is spread across the United States.\n\nOur Product team consists of two senior-level Rails developers and one frontend developer/designer. We maintain a custom-built, in-house CRM—creatively named Contacts—that supports our consumer-facing service, Agent Pronto.\n\nOver the next few months, we plan to expand our product line and add new services. In order to do that more quickly and efficiently, we’re hoping to round our three-person dev team up to an even four.\n\nWho You Are *fingers crossed*\n\nYou’re a seasoned Ruby on Rails developer who thrives in a flexible, self-directed environment. You have a history of delivering quality, scalable Ruby on Rails applications. You know what it’s like to be interrupted throughout your day and are excited to work with people that value the maker’s schedule. You transcend the left-brained developer stereotype, have an eye for design, and incorporate UX understanding into the things you build. Additionally:\n\n\n* You’re self-motivated to learn and incorporate new technologies and keep up with best practices.\n\n* You’re as comfortable writing code for the browser as you are code for the server.\n\n* You’re proficient with MySQL (database and query optimization is a plus).\n\n* You believe in the value of testing and rarely ship code without automated tests in place.\n\n* You have strong communication skills and are receptive to constructive feedback.\n\n* You have the ability to thoroughly, yet simply, explain features to everyday users.\n\n* You can clearly articulate your thoughts and feelings through writing.\n\n* You’re comfortable working on your own and are able to set ego aside when collaborating on features.\n\n* You’re not afraid to ask for help.\n\n\n\n\nHow We Make\n\nWe don’t separate “product” from “engineering”. Our dev team is the Product team, and we all take responsibility for defining features, collaborating on their design and implementation, and finally, announcing them to the team.\n\nWe build our products using the following tools and languages, and we’ll expect you to be proficient in each:\n\n\n* Ruby, Ruby on Rails\n\n* HTML (Haml)\n\n* CSS (Sass)\n\n* Javascript (jQuery, CoffeeScript, Ajax)\n\n* Data stores (MySQL, Redis, Memcached)\n\n* Testing tools (RSpec, Capybara)\n\n* Continuous integration and deployment\n\n* Linux\n\n* Git\n\n* Nice-to-haves: Bootstrap, Backbone.js\n\n\n\n\nWe communicate using Slack, Basecamp, Github, and Google Hangouts. Occasionally, we pair-code with Screenhero.\n\nSome Specifics\n\nWe’re looking to hire immediately for a full-time, salaried position. You can expect to be paid a competitive market rate and work around 40 hours per week. We request that you reside in the United States, but once hired, you’ll have the flexibility to work from anywhere. You can choose when to start and end work each day (though, we request at least some overlap with a 9-5 CST schedule). You’ll also be provided with the following perks and benefits:\n\n\n* Comprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage. We pay 100% of your premiums and 50% for your dependents.\n\n* Unlimited vacation.\n\n* Up to 12 weeks of paid maternity / paternity leave.\n\n* Laptop and phone upgrades every three years. We’ll also pay your monthly phone bill.\n\n* Ongoing education stipend to use toward conferences, seminars, etc.\n\n* Fringe benefits (books, software, etc.)\n\n\n\n\nWe understand that working remotely can get a bit lonely, so we’re happy to provide an office or coworking space near you. You’ll also be invited to attend departmental meetups and our annual company retreat, Real Life. Last year, we spent the week in Boulder, CO. This year, we’re flying everyone to South Lake Tahoe for a relaxing week of working and hanging out.\n\nThink You’re a Good Fit?\n\nTo learn more or to apply, send an email to [email protected] and include “rake” in the subject line. Also, let us know how you found this job posting. We won’t dictate the format of your application beyond that, so be thoughtful and creative. The application process will include several interviews, a remote pairing session or coding assignment, and a final, in-person interview in Austin (we’ll fly you in and host you). Thanks for looking, and good luck!

\nIf you’re smart, passionate about technology and enjoy solving complex technical challenges then you should apply to join our best-in-class tech team. We believe that people are our most important asset and one worth protecting. As such, we’re known for creating an enviable working culture to keep our employees smiling on a day to day basis. \n\nWe offer things such as flexible hours, remote working, fortnigtly hackathons and freedom to work on projects of individual interest to name just a few. In fact, our impressive working culture has recently earned us 1st place in the Sunday Times 100 Best Companies to Work for 2015. \n\n\nWe have two different positions.\n\n\n1. Senior Developers who would like to lead a team / projects - We envisage the split here being about 70% hands-on coding and 30% leading the team, liaising with product owners on prioritization work, attending iteration planning meetings with stakeholders, delegating tasks to dev team, and making sure we are following Lean / Agile processes correctly.\n\n\n2. Senior Developers who want to be 100% coders (non-lead) - This role will be 100% hands on working with our other Devs to code beautiful products for our customers! \n\n\n\nSome of our Current Projects: \n\nSeedy - Our custom built CMS. A hybrid, markdown based, sinatra driven CMS but with a TDD undercurrent. Content changes are no different to backend refactoring. Templates are written in a custom DSL that enforces our style guide while still supporting iterative changes and automatic deployment. Across the company people (including business teams) are now being tagged in pull requests and even writing code!\n\nAerie - We’re overhauling our data and analytics architecture. Using the latest approaches in event streaming, we are building a brand new data pipeline based on Kinesis and Redshift that will support the analysis of both structured and semi-structured data in near real-time. This will provide rapid and intuitive customer insight to our decision makers, while also providing exciting machine learning capabilities back to our core product offering.\n\nAAA - We are enhancing our new world platform. Our current focus is on security with a view to building out ‘infrastructure as code’ using tools such as AWS CloudFormation, AWS OpsWorks, Chef/Puppet and many others. Essentially, we believe a well architected system allows us to avoid unnecessary complexity and can enable individuals to generate great output.\n\nOur Tech Stack\n\n\n\n\n* Ruby\n\n* Rails                                                                                                                            \n\n* Scala  \n\n* MongoDB\n\n* RabbitMQ\n\n* Puppet/Boxen\n\n* AWS                                                                                                                        \n\n* Hadoop / RedShift / Looker /Tableau\n\n* Cucumber / RSpec / Jasmine                              \n\n* SASS / HAML / HTML5 / CSS3 / JavaScript / CoffeeScript / jQuery\n\n\n\n\n\nThis list changes all the time, as being on the lookout for new technology trials and opportunities is part of our code. We don’t believe in limiting ourselves, or the company. If there are other tools that could get the job done better, we’re committed to exploring them.\n\nThings we believe in:\n\n\n\n\n* TDD / BDD\n\n* Continuous Delivery\n\n* Pair Programming\n\n* Build – Measure - Learn\n\n* Active participation to open source\n\n* Our business people writing code (we've not seen this anywhere else!)                                \n\n* Cross functional teams (Dev / QA/ Data / UX / Product owners all sitting together)            \n\n* Release early and learn quickly - we release our software to production around 15 times a day on average!        \n\n* Continuous learning - we look to pay for courses and conferences and actively encourage our Devs to get out and about in the community. We have even sent some of our Devs to Miami, Portugal and Barcelona for conferences recently.                                                              \n\n* Have fun! We do ruby coding challenges during lunchtimes over pizza, we have desk beers on a friday, we have several social events throughout the year, we do fortnightly hackathons, we have afterwork clubs like: UX, Data science and Robotics club, we have flexible working hours, weekly 'show n tell' sessions, and lot's more!                                                                                                 \n\n\n
