**Promising drone-delivery startup is hiring a 3D game developer to work remotely. We need a game developer to develop a simulator in which we can train our virtual drones to fly around and deliver small packages. This drone will then deliver millions of meals and other packages in the real world.**\n\nWe are creating a food delivery app that uses autonomous drones to deliver the food. Our drone is 10 times more energy efficient, and 25 times more quiet than any other delivery drone. It is also very versatile and can fly autonomously through complex environments. We achieve this by training our autopilot in a simulator. Your job is to build that simulator.\n\nThe first part of your job will be to develop a city environment with realistic graphics. Then you will add a realistic model of our drone, with physical flight behaviour that is close to the real flight behaviour.\n\n# Responsibilities\n Because our machine learning algorithm needs a lot of variety, the simulator needs to be able to generate an infinity of different city environments. A lot of this is already done, we have a random terrain generator, a random building generator and many other features. The dynamics of the "gameplay" need to have a lot of variety as well. In each virtual delivery, the drone weight, the wind, the weight of the package etc. have to be a bit different. You will spend a lot of time creating these algorithms that are able to generate a big variety of situations. \n\n# Requirements\n* The most important thing is that you are excited about this project, and like the mission of our company.\n\n* You know how to develop Unity games, and you can show multiple projects you did in the past.\n\n* You are proficient at C#\n\n* You are good at software development in general. There will be some tasks that go beyond simple game development, like creating an efficient way for our autonomous flight software to fly around the game, and optimizing the computational speed \n\n#Salary and compensation\n$30,000/year\n\n\n#Location\n🌏 Worldwide

We look for at least 1 year of professional experience in some type of business venture (i.e. a company, your own startup, or a project with live users). This is a direct-producer role, we're looking for someone that wants to build the product, not just direct.\n\nCurrently, Kodable is multi-platform with a main codebase written in JavaScript using Cocos2d-X. We have production deployments for Web and iOS that routinely get hundreds of thousands of users a week. You'll be responsible for bringing this all to Unity, setting the framework for a platform that can be built upon for years to come.\n\nWho we’re looking for:\n\n\n* You care deeply about programming education\n\n* You have 5+ years of Unity development experience in a production environment \n\n* You have 3+ years experience building applications in with an actual programming language such as JavaScript, Python, etc.\n\n* You have released, or been a significant part of the public release of a game (doesn't need to be anything major like a Nintendo game, but ideally something that got a few users)\n\n\n\n\nHighly Preferable (but not required) if: \n\n\n* You have 1+ years experience with 2d game development\n\n* You have experience with any Cocos2d frameworks (Cocos2d-X, JS, iPhone). If you don't - that's ok! We can help you get up to speed\n\n* You have experience with networking and interfacing with server-side code (saving/loading data, offline syncing, etc)\n\n* You have experience building and deploying multi-platform games (deploying to Web and iOS, for example)\n\n\n\n\nBonus Points if:\n\n\n* You have experience with REST APIs (creating or consuming)\n\n* You have experience with game design or illustration\n\n* You know COBOL and are an expert at punch-card coding\n\n\n\n\nAbout the team:\n\nThe Kodable team is full of bright, ambitious people who are passionate about teaching kids to code. You’ll work with a product team with over 50 years of collective experience creating top-notch games for companies like EA, Leapfrog, and Scientific Learning. Every member of the team has a voice in making Kodable great.\n\nYou'll join a remote-first team that prioritizes communication, collaboration, and insights from diverse backgrounds when building new features. Most of the team is based in the Bay Area, but includes team members from across the United States as well as immigrants from Kenya and Kyrgyzstan. Kodable places value on creating an inclusive culture, where we can learn from each other’s different experiences.\n\nWe also focus on making each other better as people, not just as workers. For example, we have a #pushups channel in Slack (complete with pushup-coach bot) and we all set a weekly goal for ourselves that has nothing to do with work. Work/Life Harmony is a big focus at Kodable, and we prioritize our own mental health instead of just the typical startup grind.\n\nAt Kodable, you’ll have the opportunity to grow as a person, as well as professionally. Join the #pushups Slack channel (complete with pushup-coach bot) if you want to. You’ll also set a personal goal for yourself each week, that has nothing to do with work. Work/Life Harmony is important at Kodable, and we prioritize our own mental health instead of just the typical startup grind.

Koji - Web App Development Platform

closed

web dev

This job post is closed and the position is probably filled. Please do not apply.
\ntl;dr: We want you to make fun web games that ordinary people can remix using our platform. We will pay you $500 per game. These are simple games, so they shouldn't take you too long to create. Interested? Read on!\n\nKoji is a platform that lets non-coders "remix" games and apps to customize game assets, styles, and basic mechanics. We are excited to work with developers to grow our catalogue of games and let ordinary people remix them into new games that are hilarious, shocking, silly, fun, or all of the above!\n\nIf you have ever wanted to get paid to make fun games and reach potentially millions of people with your work, this is your opportunity. Koji games have been remixed and shared by all kinds of people, including celebrities, influencers, and athletes from around the world! Koji games embed natively in Reddit, Snapchat, and Instagram, and can be played from any device and on any browser.\n\nWe are looking for developers of all skill levels to create fun, engaging games that are easy to remix and customize. These games should NOT be complex. Game formats that work well on Koji include things like endless runners, puzzles like Candy Crush, new takes on classic arcade games, etc. Think of these things like the next evolution of Flash games, not the next Skyrim :)\n\nThere are already hundreds of game templates on Koji, some of our favorites include:\n\n\n* https://withkoji.com/~Svarog1389/element-match\n\n* https://withkoji.com/~Svarog1389/space-blast\n\n* https://withkoji.com/~Svarog1389/burger-revenge\n\n\n\n\nYou can see more of our favorites at https://withkoji.com/create\n\nThese games are created using Javascript, and are adapted to Koji through the inclusion of a few extra JSON files. Please click "Remix" on any of the games above in order to see the file structure, and how the app uses JSON config files in order to render Koji VCCs (Visual Customization Controls). These VCCs let non-coders customize and modify the games (to do things like turn this game into this game).\n\nIf you create a new game template that meets our specifications, we will pay you $500 USD per game. There is no limit on the number of games you can create for us, but additional games must be meaningfully distinct from each other in order to qualify for additional payment.\n\nIn order to be accepted, games must meet ALL of the following criteria:\n\n\n* Game must load properly in the Koji editor and publish correctly from the editor. We recommend remixing a scaffold, or remixing an existing game and simply deleting the game logic in the Koji editor and replacing it with your own game.\n\n\n\n* Game must include VCCs that allow people to remix and customize the game in meaningful ways (changing images, sounds, strings, and other game mechanics). Please remix some of the games on the "/create" page tor examples of what kinds of things should be abstracted into VCCs. Changes to VCCs should be reflected immediately in the live preview of the Koji Editor via hot reloading.\n\n\n\n* If appropriate, game should include a backend with a leaderboard. Take a look at the code of some of the sample games for examples of how to do this using an Express server.\n\n\n\n* Game must be responsive and work well on both desktop and mobile devices. Please make sure to test across browsers and devices. Game must work in Mobile Safari on iOS. If you do not have access to an iOS device, please join our Discord -- others in the community can help you to test and debug on iOS devices.\n\n\n\n* If game uses arrow keys, it should terminate propagation of those keypresses. Koji games render in iFrames, so pressing the down/up arrow keys when playing the game should not scroll the parent screen.\n\n\n\n* If a game has background audio/music, the music should not start playing until the user starts playing the game. No autoplay music on splash screens.\n\n\n\n* Game should feel compelling and fun to play. Use high-quality assets and pay attention to visual design. Use sounds when appropriate.\n\n\n\n\nJoin our Discord server to connect with other developers if you have questions about how to use the platform, or are looking for feedback/inspiration for your game.\n\nBefore you start working on your game, please apply using the application link and tell us a little bit about yourself, as well as give us a general idea of what you want to create. Don't worry, there's no lengthy interview process -- we just want to get a sense of what you want to build so we can make sure it meets our criteria before you start spending time working on it.\n\nOnce you've been approved (we try to process approvals within 24 hours), you will be given a link to a form where you can submit your game once it's finished, as well as your payment information. Once you've submitted your game, it will either be approved and you will be paid, or will be rejected with a list of required changes. After you make those changes, you can resubmit. Please make sure you share your game in Discord to get feedback from the community before submitting it to us for review.\n\nLet this be a change of pace from boring CRUD apps -- be creative, have fun, and get paid to make games! :)

\nJob description\n\nLooking for P5 ninjas!\n\nWhat if we could :\n\n\n* Create a marketplace, where developers can offer templates for makers to clone and create new apps .\n\n* Automatically set up a development environment, completely in the cloud, with a hot reloadable embedded preview, and the best cloud IDE on the market (Monaco Editor).\n\n* Make the IDE collaborative so that multiple people could work on code simultaneously, just like Google Docs.\n\n* Make it possible to have Visual Customization Controls (VCCs) that allow graphical abstraction of hypervariables, making it fast and easy to customize the app clone (without even touching code).\n\n* Make deployment of full-stack Progressive Web Apps effortless, so that even non-techies can do it, with all kinds of sugar (custom domains, subdomains, plugin injection, automatic submission to aggregators and app stores, etc.)\n\n* Create a community of developers (making app templates) and makers (cloning app templates and making apps).\n\n\n\n\nWell, we have!  It's called Koji, and it is growing.\n\nWe are looking for more developers to join our team and :\n\n\n* Create new P5 app templates for makers to clone.\n\n* Help makers (via collaboration) to modify or extend existing templates to meet their needs\n\n\n\n\nThis is just the beginning.  Here are the current templates : https://gokoji.com/templates\n\nHere is some press about our recent financing : https://venturebeat.com/2019/04/23/gometa-raises-6-million-and-launches-koji-web-app-development-platform/\n\nOur tech stack \n\nThe Koji platform consists of several services that work together to present our users with a unified development/deployment pipeline. Generally, consumer frontends are written in React/ES6, and backends in Typescript (Express for REST APIs and native websockets for RTC). We use Redis as a message broker and Postgres as a persistent datastore. Our infrastructure is (mostly) on AWS.\n\nThe most visually-prominent consumer product is the Koji IDE, a web-based editor that connects to a remote development server and enables full-stack development from any device with a browser. The remote development server uses Docker to create a per-project environment that runs both the editor server (file writes, PTY operations, OT-based real-time collaboration, Git operations, etc.) and the processes/servers required for the user to develop their project (backend servers, frontend dev servers, test runners, etc).\n\nAt a high level, the web editor’s frontend uses VSCode’s Monaco as a text editor and a custom parser that renders Koji-compliant JSON config files into intuitive visual controls. Because Koji projects are simply modern, standards-compliant Javascript projects (or projects that ultimately target JS), this hybrid approach gives our users the benefits of easy, visual configuration using no-code patterns for manipulating project-level config (strings, colors, styles, mechanics, settings, etc.) without subjecting them to the usual restrictions of no-code/low-code platforms (complex, unintuitive controls; ballooning trees/graphs once projects go beyond simple basics; no ability to drop down and edit native code; etc.).\n\nBecause Koji projects are staged in the cloud during development, the web editor’s live preview can be opened on any internet-connected device (without the need for ngrok, mobile device proxies, etc.). The editor provides some additional tools for easily testing backend routes and manipulating PTYs.\n\nKoji projects are backend by Git repositories. By default, new projects use a Git remote hosted by Koji’s Git server, but projects can also use repositories hosted by third-parties as their remotes. The Koji deploy pipeline uses Git hooks to trigger new builds (build steps are defined by a JSON file within the project) and shows build progress, logs, and notifications inside the web editor. Projects can deploy static bundles or dynamic services that are compiled, containerized, and deployed using Google’s Cloud Run.\n\nOnce a project is deployed, it can be accessed by an auto-generated subdomain. From within the editor, users can also register a custom subdomain on one of our root domains (e.g., myproject.withkoji.com), or register a custom domain name and configure DNS to point that domain to our CDN. We take care of HTTPS provisioning, deployment, and renewal automatically with Let’s Encrypt, and all projects are accelerated with our CDN partner, Fastly.\n\nThe CDN that serves deployed projects can also inject plugins at runtime based on path/pattern matching, which lets users easily enable features like Open Graph tags (something that is typically difficult to do on client-side SPAs without SSR or services like Prerender) or integrate things like Google Analytics. The web editor also renders server access logs for deployed projects, giving users an easy way to understand traffic and growth without the need for any third-party analytics/tracking tools.

If I can prove this is easier, will you folks try it this way?).\n\nYou should have a highly developed sense of collaboration – doesn’t mean you need to be a touchy-feely extrovert, but that you know sharing information, ideas and support is essential to commercial success.\n\nYou care about software, you have a passion for what you do which you can clearly convey by your actions rather than just waffly personal statements on your CV. For you it’s more than a job. Experience otherwise is relative – 2 years working in an agile/XP manner is worth much more to us than 5 in a traditional environment.\n\nIf you’ve not got working experience with things like TDD and refactoring (maybe you’ve always wanted to but your current job doesn’t allow for it) show us you’re at least familiar with the concepts and that you really want to work in this kind of environment and you’re still in with a good chance. • What’s the role?* You’ll be joining an extremely enthusiastic team who enjoy what they do. Things like Pair Programming, TDD/BDD, Refactoring, and Continuous Delivery are deeply embedded and we’re constantly striving to improve the way we work. However, we’re not perfect and not afraid to say so. We recognise we have many problems which need solving and a long way to go on our journey of continuous improvement. \n\nRequired technical skills:\n\nOur backend stack is based on Node.js for the most part, with some bits and pieces in different languages (Ruby, Go). The frontend stack is currently based on Pixi.js for Canvas and WebGL rendering. All our projects have a healthy automated test coverage and go through our CI servers. The provisioning / deployment process is fully automated with Ansible.\n\nWe’d be interested in candidates from any background as long as you have a keen understanding of Object Oriented languages and you're someone who cares about how software is written.

\nChange with us the Fantasy Sports landscape. We were the first company to bring Fantasy Sports games into Czech Republic four years ago. Now we are storming the market as the only Fantasy Sports solution provider in Central Europe. We work with the biggest lottery company and others to provide the audience with the best Daily Fantasy Sports game there is. Take a look for yourself at www.starliga.cz and www.sazkafantasy.cz.\n\n\nWe are still a young team, though filled with industry veterans. We have made 3 online MMO games in the past. Our Fantasy Sport game was played by over 200k players in Czech Republic alone.\n\n\nWe have a gorgeous office in Prague. It’s full of things that make our life easier from perfect coffee, awesome machines to variable height tables. We like to enjoy our time at work.\n\n\nThe job is certainly suited for a fulltime presence at our office. But remote may work, it mainly depends on you. We already have remote colleagues, so everything is set up. Working hours depend on you, we want to see the work done well. If you like to do it at 3 A.M., it’s your choice. But we meet physically every day, so remote work means a lot of calls. \n\n\nIt is also important to point out that we work on games that may be considered gambling by some people. \n\n\nWe seek a senior developer, you will have a lot of responsibility. Your code will work with money, so you need to know your stuff well.\n\n\nWe like to use cutting edge technologies, learn new skills and do our work the best way we can. Our team is very highly motivated and we only look for people with the same attitude.\n\nIf you are interested, send us your references || C.V. || github link or anything else you think we might be interested in. Be creative ;).\n\n\nWe are looking forward to meeting you.\n\nMartin & Allodium Crew\n\n\n\n\nFOREIGN INFO: If your don’t live in Czech Republic, we can help you relocate after some initial good remote experience. You would need fluent in spoken and written technical english. We also use many online collaboration tools. Anyway, we strongly prefer people with EU/US/Commonwealth citizenship.

\nWARNING\n\nI am just a one-man startup (with a few part timers), pre-product with no outside funding (yet). But I experienced a huge problem and have a great solution for it. But I need help.\n\nThis isn’t a job posting for someone who likes the 9-5 life and the safety of a regular paycheck.\n\nThis is a posting for someone who wants to make a fundamental improvement in the life of millions of people. There are approximately 1.5 billion language learners in the world, but only 7-15% can claim fluency. That means there are more than 1 billion people who started a language but never got there.\n\nIf you’re still reading and excited about the opportunity to promote foreign language literacy, you’re probably who I am looking for. \n\n--\n\nThe problem\n\nI speak Vietnamese, English and Japanese. My language ability has opened many doors and allowed me to travel the world. But learning a language IS HARD. And now I want to give back by making it easier to master a language. A. LOT. EASIER.\n\nStudying Japanese was probably one of the hardest things I have ever done. I have been studying for 7 years and at this point I still can’t say I’m fluent. I’m stuck at the intermediate hump, where real-world content is too difficult and time-consuming to master and most edtech tools like Duolingo are too basic. After a long day at work, I can’t be bothered to pick up a dense book full of characters that I don’t even know how to put in a dictionary in the first place. Studying a language requires persistence, time and motivation, which come in rare quantity for people with work and personal responsibilities.\n\n35% of all language learners are at the intermediate level, meaning that there are more than 500 million people who are likely facing the same issue I have. The most motivated ones make it over the hump, but most don’t.\n\n--\n\nThe solution\n\nI always wish I had a personal learning assistant, someone who would know my level and give me content that matches my current ability. Someone who would answer questions on the spot when I run into words or phrases I don’t know. Someone who would give me daily quizzes to make sure that I retain what I’m studying. That way, most of the time I spend studying is actually for studying, not fumbling around with a dictionary or flashcards.\n\nThat is the product I want to make. Using machine learning and natural language processing, as well as some good old spaced repetition system, I want to create a product that serves as your personal learning assistant. Showing is better than telling, so here is what it looks like: www.helium-app.com/?utm_source=stackoverflow. I don’t want to make a cookie-cutter language app, I want to make a pedagogically-informed, intelligent and personalized learning app. This is the future of edtech.\n\n--\n\nThe feedback\n\nIn about five days we’ve had 500 completely organic signups and tons of positive feedback. The average conversion rate is 20% (having excluded the first day which was mainly friends and family signups). People need this!\n\nHere is one:\n\n“My name is James and I'm more interested in Helium than the average person. I've been learning Chinese for years, and this is something I've always thought needed to be made. But on top of that, I'm a developer as well, and really appreciate the work you must be putting into this app. Right now I'm living in China still trying to improve my Chinese, and this app is basically exactly what I need. I have plenty of friends here studying for the HSK test that would absolutely love it as well.”\n\n--\n\nWhat’s in it for you\n\nIf you’ve gotten this far, chances are the opportunity to create something from scratch with massive potential impact together with smart and passionate colleagues is what gets you going. In addition to that, I will give you equity, and a lot of it, to make this thing happen. I’m committing my foreseeable future to this and just quit a very well-paid PM gig, and I want to make sure you do too.\n\nWe can talk about a minimal salary to support your expenses, but there is nothing that says I’m in like sipping ramen for months in exchange for a chunk of nothing that would be something when we make Helium a reality.\n\nJoin Helium, and rise!

\nRails Devs – Platform – Full Stack \n\nNo other game studio uses a web stack like Red 5. In most games, everything happens between the game client/server that saves the data to the database directly. Later, that data gets moved and the web team builds the product web site to finalize. At Red 5 Studios the client connects directly to the game server which handles all the real time simulation. It does not talk to the database. Instead it sends out information to the web stack and our other web sites which talk to those APIs. Our entire game is run on a web platform similar to a web company like FB, Netflix, or Twitter. This enables our Web Dev Team to actually build game features like crafting systems, progression and rewards systems and limitless other features working directly with our design team. Our web team spends roughly 80% of their time building in game features with web enabled technologies for millions of gamers to enjoy.\n\nWe offer an original IP, self-published in the US and Europe, a flat organization with a tremendous company team culture with innovative and creative technologies and marketing.  In addition, we have a profit sharing plan and with a still relatively small studio (150 or so) this could be quite lucrative.\n\nThe Discipline\n\nThe Red 5 Studio’s Web Development team is comprised of the brightest architects, designers, and engineers in the business. Building the web-based tools and features needed to form the backbone of our online presence, our Web Developers are committed to providing the best online experience for our users. To accomplish this, the web developers work closely with the game designers to create functionality in both Firefall the game and on the official Firefall website, and ensure that all facets of design are of the highest quality. The Web Development team also works alongside our Marketing and Community teams to design and implement community-focused web features and promotions.\n\nResponsibilities\n\nRuby Devs wanted to help develop our next gen MMO server infrastructure. No gaming experience required, but you will be working on highly scalable web services for social features, billing and item store systems, stat and data mining, crowd sourced support initiates and more challenging back end and front end systems. We are a case study for Amazon as we are the first next-gen MMO running in the cloud and work closely with them on unique real time challenges.\n\n\n* Scaling back-end infrastructure to large scale systems\n\n* Own your code. Write it, test it, and push it to production via continuous deployment\n\n* Design and construct scalable web service APIs to serve data needs of the platform\n\n* Constantly improving the game and user experience on your own accord\n\n* Writing unit and/or integration tests for your code\n\n* Deciding what is the most appropriate technology to be used for any situation\n\n* Monitoring the performance of your applications, and keeping them fast\n\n* Debugging platform-based issues\n\n\n

Your job, if you choose to accept it, is to refactor, rebuild, and/or extend the Android version of Evil Apples until it’s good enough to make millions of users proud to own it and stoked to play it.\n\nThat’s where you come in: we're looking for Android developers who has shipped Java Applications on the Play Store, and who's up to the challenge of making Evil Apples Android as good or better than the iPhone version of the game.\n\nAs a software engineer, you will be working on a small team directly with the founders of the company, and you will be responsible for day-to-day decisions about the architecture, technologies, and code of the Application. When it comes to the code, you will be your own boss.\n\nResponsibilities:\n\n\n* Creating a polished native Android/Java app with nice, animated interactions.\n\n* RELIABLY displaying the poop emoji across the fragmented landscape of Android devices and OS versions: \n\n* Communicating with a modern websocket server layer that sends weird chats and funny cards to Android clients in realtime with MINIMAL battery drain.\n\n* Making Evil Apples Android so good that you’d brag about it to your friends.\n\n\n
