**Wanted: Brilliant full-stack developer, long-term position, exciting company**\n\nHi there,\n\nMy name’s Kathryn. I work with entrepreneurs Till H. Gross and Edward Druce of Course Concierge.\n\nCourse Concierge is an online course publishing company that creates industry-leading online courses for NYT best-selling authors, TED speakers and YouTubers with millions of subscribers.\n\nOur clients include YouTubers with 100,000,000+ views, one of the most hotly-followed health experts on Instagram, and a coach to NFL athletes, NBA players and U.S. special forces.\n\nWe’ve run over a dozen launches the past year alone, and we’re doing very well.\n\nCheck us out here: http://courseconcierge.com\n\nFor the right person, this is a Dream Opportunity — and dream company.\n\nWe’re one-year-old and growing, and we’re looking for a second developer to join our team of 12.\n\n**If you are someone who…**\n\n- Wants to excel in your career and take pride in active and stimulating work\n- Is looking for a shot to prove yourself\n- Gets excited at the prospect of learning a tremendous amount, with fast-paced and varied demands\n- Has the ability to work within tight deadlines and juggle multiple tasks with poise\n…this could be the opportunity you’ve been looking for.\n\n**We’re a great company to join. Here’s why…**\n\n- We’re young (just a year old) and you will be getting in at the ground level\n- We have an unbelievably engaged team, with world-class people in every department (from video production to research to copywriting and design)\n- Our clients are fantastic. We only take on a handful and are incredibly selective in who we work with\n- We’re a remote company and you’ve the freedom to work from anywhere in the US.\n- We’re going places.\n\n**This position is the right fit for you if…**\n\n- You are someone who completely understands how WordPress works at the code level. You have built your own custom themes/plugins and you know how to extend WordPress core.\n- You understand how REST APIs work and you are comfortable consuming RESTful web services, either via the client (AJAX) or the server (PHP).\n- You like finding smart and elegant solutions to coding problems, in line with WordPress coding and security best practices. Your code is clean, understandable and well commented.\n- You have solid knowledge of PHP, MySQL, HTML, Javascript/JQuery, CSS. Experience on any kind of front-end framework (i.e. Bootstrap) or Javascript framework (React, Vue) is a plus.\n- You are competent with version control systems (Git) and having experience with modern web development workflows and tools (Yarn, Gulp, Sass) is a plus.\n\n**You need to…**\n\n- Like a big workload and be comfortable working quickly. We like to get a lot done in a day and you will be pushed\n- Welcome revisions and embrace our perfectionist tendencies (as well as our clients’)\n- Help us refine our technical processes\n- Be a clear and capable communicator. As a company we take writing seriously. Great English and attention to detail are essential.\n- Be someone we love working with! Fit comes first, above everything else for us. If you don’t ‘spark joy’ for the team, no matter how good you are, we won’t take you.\n\nNearly all of our communication is written (we use Basecamp 3 and are big fans of it), but we’d like you to be comfortable getting on the occasional call too.\n\n**You will be needed for the following…**\n\nThroughout each project, we have five core needs for development.\n\n**1. Lay the foundation**\n\nSetup of a client’s domain and hosting, and integration of a payment gateway, membership plugin, affiliate plugin and email platform.\nAs a team, we consider ourselves ‘mixed online course artists’.\nMost clients already have websites, hosting and email platforms. Whatever platforms they’re using, we need to be able to get on with them and have them work well together (minimising migrations as much as possible).\nThe one exception to this is we do everything on WordPress.\n\n**2. Create a stunning email capture page**\n\nHere are two examples from some of our clients…\nhttps://theweekendwoodworker.com/\nhttps://artofcoaching.com/\n\nFrom our design team’s PSDs, everything you create needs to be wonderfully responsive, and no stone (from the thank you page to a nicely formatted confirmation email) left unturned.\n\n**3. Build a long-form sales page**\n\nOur designers make sales pages that are many thousands of words digestible and enticing to read. We need you to do their work justice.\n\n**4. Creation of membership area**\n\nPick a favourite WordPress membership plugin and create a layout that houses a course with clear and simple navigation.\nWe always look to enhance the user experience for clients’ customers and deliver the best learning environment possible.\n\n**5. Checkout page**\n\nMaking sure payments are taken, membership entitlements are correct and segments are created in a newsletter platform for buyers.\nYou know where we can get free SSLs and best practices for security.\n\n*\n\nThe position will start at 20-25 hours per week, with a view to becoming near enough full-time in a matter of months. Pay will be set at a competitive hourly rate, fixed.\n\n**To apply…**\n\nPlease write to [email protected] with ONE example of a responsive page you have coded, along with a brief pitch on why you think you’d be a great fit.\n\nDo not send more than one link or your entry will be disqualified.\n\nDo not apply through our website or your entry will be disqualified.\n\nAlso, please do not send a resume, CV or attachment of any kind. We don’t care where you went to college (or that you even went at all) — all that matters is whether you can do it.\n\nWe won’t be able to get back to everyone, but for those who stand out, we will send a list of interview questions in writing, then, for the few we like best, set up a brief call to discuss the opportunity.\n\nThe deadline for submissions is June 10, though those who apply sooner have an advantage.\n\nWe will pick two candidates from interviews to begin a paid two-week trial (to assess on-the-job performance and cultural fit). One person will then be chosen for the ongoing role.\n\nThank you for reading. Best of luck, and I look forward to hearing from you!\n\nKathryn

We are embracing cloud, microservices and full automation throughout the stack. Our existing platform is primarily PHP/Apache/MSSQL/JavaScript but we will use the right tools for the right job and explore additional modern options (Node, Go, Scala as well as some staples like Java & Python) as we progress with our transition.\n\n\n\nWe don't dictate or micromanage, we want our teams to be autonomous, proactive and self organising.\n\n\n\n**About you**\n\n\n\nWe are looking for true technologists with a genuine interest in what they do day to day. \nTechnology isn’t the answer to questions of poverty, public health, education, and the environment, but it shouldn’t be the problem. The current landscape is disjointed and it’s prohibitively difficult for most NGOs to turn promising technologies into better decisions. We’re building an AppStore and data-integration platform that helps social-impact organizations find, connect, and successfully implement key technologies. openFn is a non-profit, open-source project that's funded both by forward thinking foundations and revenue from our integration product.\n\nAs the first full-time senior technical hire you’ll own the codebase. It’s built on Ruby, PostgreSQL, Angular.js, and Heroku. The core functions are (1) guiding users to the right external technologies (e.g., electronic medical record systems, analytics tools, data capture apps, mobile payment systems, sms gateways, etc.), then (2) allowing them to build complex data integrations across these technologies through a simple, point-and-click interface. You’ll have leeway to redesign the stack if necessary, ensuring that the platform is optimally efficient as more and more endpoint technologies are added.\nYou’ll work primarily with openFn's founder, Taylor Downs, winner of the first annual Harvard SECON Social Impact Award, member of Forbes 30 under 30, and co-founder and former CEO of Vera Solutions—technology partner to over 125 leading impact-first organizations in over 40 countries. You’ll also have access to programming support from our external development firm and collaborate with product designers and developers around the world who are building technologies for social change.\n

What are these teams working on?\n\n\n* Data & systems that support our global campus business - https://generalassemb.ly/locations\n\n* Evolving large applications into an ecosystem of microservices\n\n* Innovative online education experiences for consumer & enterprise users - https://generalassemb.ly/education/web-design-circuit\n\n* Platforms to connect our community of students & alumni - http://profiles.ga.co\n\n* Internal tools supporting every part of our organization \n\n\n\n\nWhat it's like to be on the team\n\n\n* We use GitHub for code review, Code Climate and Semaphore to keep entropy at bay, and Heroku to focus on building things\n\n* We favor trying new things over fear of mistakes\n\n* We are anti-dogmatic: use whatever code editor you like, pair-program when you like\n\n* We try to seek a balance between sticking with what works and fearlessly exploring the new\n\n* We are always learning, always teaching\n\n* We are passionate about writing good code\n\n* We apologize for and learn from our mistakes\n\n* We have worked hard to build a culture of trust, continual improvement, and mutual support\n\n\n\n\nWe <3 remotes!\n\nEven though GA is headquartered in New York City, more than half of our engineering team is not. We remote in from little towns and big cities from California to the Netherlands. And even our New York devs spend the odd day (or month) working from home or elsewhere.\n\nWe are serious about making remote collaboration work, with tools like Slack, Skype, and Screenhero becoming a big part of our daily lives.\n\nFour times a year, we fly the whole engineering team to New York for a few days of workshops, lightning talks, urban adventures, and an epic hackathon.\n\nBenefits\n\nPosition is full-time with competitive salary, stock options and great benefits. NYC or Remote. Benefits include: 401k, iPhone + cell plan, Macbook + 27' monitor, medical + dental + vision insurance, MTA transit credit and 50% discounted gym membership (in NYC).
