\nWe are hiring for a Frontend Architect who can work alongside our designers and full stack developers to create an well structured and visually consistent design system for our app. This position would be in our product development division, which is building out several new products for our main app, BriteCore. We are interested in building a team of frontend experts who could assist our full stack developers in working with our design system. This position would be the lead position on this team.\n\nThe kind of work we do\n\nBriteCore is essentially a CMS for insurance companies. They use it to manage all aspects of their business, including tracking policies, managing contacts and handling claims. This means our users typically see our app more as a business tool like Microsoft Word or Google Sheets than a website (even though it is completely a web-based app). They also are using BriteCore for several hours every day, and are concerned with doing things quickly and efficiently. This, along with the complicated nature of insurance, means we deal with some complex workflows, and try to set ourselves apart from our competitors with a smooth UX that helps them navigate these tough processes.\n\nWhat you might be doing\n\nTraditionally at BriteCore, full stack developers have done almost all of the development work. We haven’t been specialized into frontend or backend roles. This means our full stack developers are all working together to build out a Vue.js-based frontend and design system, but we’d like to have a team of frontend developers who can help create components, document standards, and continue to improve this design system as these products grow.\n\nAs a Frontend Architect, you could be doing the following:\n\n\n* Work with a lead a team of several frontend developers\n\n* Help draft standards around JS conventions\n\n* Create a new layout framework in CSS Grid\n\n* Work with a designer to implement a new component\n\n* Improve our utilization of Vuex\n\n* Architect and implement highly reusable, configurable Vue components\n\n* Improve our testing framework to ensure components can be safely and predictably modified\n\n* Create easier ways for our clients to add UI customizations and theming\n\n\n\n\nWhat it is like to work here\n\nBriteCore is a remote-first company — even employees who live in our home city of Springfield, MO usually work from home! And most of the people you will work with are scattered across the US and the globe. This means that remote team members are just as much part of the company as local employees. We also allow a lot of flexibility in terms of time off. In return, we expect all of our employees to be productive and accountable, which means you'll work alongside a great, dedicated team.\n\nResponsibilities & Requirements\n\n\n* Several years of experience in the field is preferred\n\n* Vue.js experience highly preferred, frontend JS framework experience required\n\n* Leadership/growth opportunities\n\n* Review code and PRs, and provide constructive feedback to team members\n\n* Communicate clearly and effectively over chat and video conference\n\n* Welcome feedback and collaboration\n\n* Be friendly, confident, and patient with others\n\n* Ship code on time\n\n* Self-direct\n\n* Stay familiar with the latest web development trends\n\n* Work at least half of your day during our normal business hours, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. US Central Time\n\n\n\n\nTechnologies We Use\n\n\n* JavaScript (ES6)\n\n* Vue.js\n\n* Node.js\n\n* Webpack\n\n* HTML5\n\n* SCSS\n\n* Python\n\n* Django and Django REST Framework\n\n* GraphQL\n\n* MySQL\n\n* GitHub\n\n* Linux (Command line knowledge such as BASH, ZSH, or FISH)\n\n* Docker\n\n* Amazon Web Services\n\n\n\n\nBenefits and compensation\n\n\n* Salary based on experience and proven performance\n\n* Benefit from working alongside and observing a team of world-class engineers and designers\n\n* Comprehensive health insurance coverage including medical, dental, and vision\n\n* Flexible schedule\n\n* Relaxed work environment\n\n* Remote work\n\n* Flexible learning time — explore your ideas and new technologies on the clock\n\n\n

\nAbout you\n\nYou love working at the intersection of form and function, making web apps that do their job and keep users coming back, again and again.  You have a passion for excellence in code.  Clean, tested code is just as important to you as your app's functioning and aesthetics.  You’re excited at the possibility of working for a small but established startup with big potential, whose customers are among the largest worldwide names in healthcare.  You also thrive in a work-from-home environment, and you have a proven track record of delivering your art from the quiet (or not so quiet) of your home, a coffee shop, the park, or whatever floats your Bring Your Own Office boat.\n\nYou live, eat, drink, and breathe Javascript.  The front end is your happy place, and the one you've spent the most time in.  You can handle it all by yourself, including architecting, developing, and testing.  You have deep experience with a huge variety of Javascript tools and frameworks, which gives you the confidence to make informed technology choices that are in tune with industry trends and Best Practices.  And while you prefer living in the front end, you can get by on the backend when necessary.\n\nAbout us\n\nAt Symplur we are connecting the dots in healthcare social media, elevating the patient’s voice. We’ve built a platform called Symplur Signals that promotes a deep understanding of healthcare as seen by patients, doctors and other stakeholders with real-time access to insights from over a billion healthcare social media data points. Our users range from world renowned universities and government agencies to global pharmaceutical companies.  \n\nWe offer paid healthcare, 100% remote work, and a generous vacation policy.  We follow the latest technology trends, and we strive to keep our systems updated and to use the latest and greatest tools.  We embrace MySQL, Redis, PHP, Laravel, Docker, Git, and AWS Cloud Hosting, to name a few.\n\nYour Responsibilities\n\nAt Symplur, your main task will be to head up our front end development efforts.  This means supporting our legacy customer-facing Laravel app while architecting and developing the front ends that will replace it.  This will involve integrating numerous Javascript libraries and tools, and helping to be the voice of the user when it comes to UI and UX design.  You will have significant sway on the technology choices used.  Your work will rely upon the brand-new REST APIs that our backend team is feverishly building.  You will work closely with them, helping to define which API services and data points are needed, and being the first real-world consumer of their work.

\nAbout you\n\nYou have a passion for excellence in code.  Unit testing is old hat to you.  You love working at the intersection of form and function, making web apps that do their job and keep users coming back, again and again.  You’re excited at the possibility of working for a small but established startup with big potential, whose customers are among the largest worldwide names in healthcare.  You’re okay with wearing multiple hats, including architect, developer, tester, and even system administrator on occasion.\n\nYou thrive in a work-from-home environment, and you have a proven track record of delivering your art from the quiet (or not so quiet) of your home, a coffee shop, the park, or whatever floats your Bring Your Own Office boat.\n\nWhile you love the frontend, you can hold your own on the backend too.  Writing MySQL queries and developing in a modern Laravel and PHP environment does not intimidate you (even though we all know you’d rather be writing Javascript!)  You are also thrilled that as our backend developers bring a new API online in the coming months, you will be the main architect and developer of our next-generation web apps which will consume it.  (Angular, anyone?  Or maybe you prefer React or Ember?)\n\n\nAbout us\n\nAt Symplur we are connecting the dots in healthcare social media, elevating the patient’s voice. We’ve built a platform called Symplur Signals that promotes a deep understanding of healthcare as seen by patients, doctors and other stakeholders with real-time access to insights from over a billion healthcare social media data points. Our users range from world renowned universities and government agencies to global pharmaceutical companies.\n\nOur backend is rooted in PHP and Laravel, with a healthy dose of AWS cloud hosting tools like OpsWorks, Aurora (MySQL), and ElastiCache (Redis).  Our frontend uses Bootstrap, HighCharts, and a wide range of open-source Javascript libraries.\n\nWe offer paid healthcare and a generous vacation policy.

\nDo you use the internet?  Do you eat food?  If so, you know a lot about our product already!  Come join our product team at RelayFoods.com, and help build the future of groceries.  We are the leading online grocery store in the Mid-Atlantic region, and take pride in an approach that prioritizes healthy food and supports local farmers and economies.  As part of the product team, you’ll be an integral part of every aspect of our business, from talking to and building features for our great customers to building internal apps and processes for our marketing, operations, and merchandising departments.  We are a remote team with a great culture, and are all passionate about building the absolute best grocery experience possible.\n\nWe're specifically looking for an experienced frontend developer to join our small, but mighty product team.  As part of the team, you’ll be responsible for being a thought leader and core architect for our frontend systems.  As such, you should have strong opinions about the strengths and weaknesses of different javascript frameworks, and a passion for building well-thought out and maintainable code.  That said, we are a small team that firmly believes in the 'always be shipping' mentality, so you should be pragmatic about the tradeoffs inherent in a very iterative development process.\n\nThe interfaces and features of the products we build are well regarded in the industry, and the result of a relentless focus on our customers' needs.  Much of the codebase has been built with backbone and marionette, while several products are built with meteor.  We even have a number of node based backend services created as lightweight event driven AWS Lambda functions.\n\nOur major challenge at the moment, and what we will specifically be looking for you to help address, is the speed and reliability of our interfaces.  We have begun experimenting with lightweight, reactive view layers such as react, efficient data fetching layers such as falcor, and better css/less organization such as BEM, but need someone who can truly lead the transition to these technologies and/or others that we've yet to experiment with.  If you do not have deep knowledge about this type of frontend development, then this particular role is probably not the best fit (though, stay tuned for others in the future!).\n\nResponsibilities\n\n\n* Support and build upon the existing UI frameworks that power our user experience.\n\n* Be a thought leader and challenge assumptions as we transition towards a more reactive set of interfaces\n\n* Lead efforts to significantly increase performance and reliability of our frontend systems\n\n* Help us think through and implement our hybrid mobile strategy (check out our responsive mobile site!)\n\n* Oversee the transition to a better set of testing tools/processes\n\n* Research, experiment with, and report on new technologies to achieve our goals\n\n\n\n\nLocation\n\nWe have always been a remote team, and as such, have created processes and tools that allow us to do so in fairly frictionless way.  I think you'll find that our team is more tight knit than most in-person teams you'll meet.  That said, we are not currently set up to handle far flung employees (think 'other side of the globe') - sorry!  We are headquartered in Charlottesville VA, but have offices in Richmond VA and Washington D.C., and team members in Atlanta GA, Greenville SC, and Indianapolis IN.\n\nHow to Apply\n\nWe don't care whether it's through a cover letter, resume, personal site, github repo, message in a bottle, etc., but we primarily want to see:\n\n\n* Evidence of your passion for products and technologies, bonus points if in a food related area\n\n* Evidence of your experience with and deep knowledge around reactive/performant frontend systems\n\n* The name of your favorite dessert, because 1) we care and 2) we want to know that you’re not a robot :)\n\n\n\n\nThere are quite a number of frontend developers these days, and our team is small / oversees the hiring process, so please respect our time by not applying if you don't meet the criteria.  Thanks!
