Greenlight Financial Technology is hiring a Remote Site Reliability Engineer

Greenlight is an Atlanta-based fintech company that makes a debit card for kids and companion apps for the family. We proudly serve more than 2 million parents and kids, with in-app tools for sending money, setting savings goals, monitoring balances, managing chores, automating allowance and investing.\n\nBut that’s not all that we do. Here at Greenlight, we are on a mission to support parents and help every kid grow up to be financially healthy and happy. It’s no small task, but it’s the reason we leap out of bed every morning to come to work. Because creating a better, brighter future for kids depends on it.\n\nAs we continue building and scaling our cloud-native systems and services, we are looking for a Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) to help keep our projects running smoothly. The ideal candidate will collaborate with product teams to ensure that services and features operate at an established level of availability, performance, observability, and maintainability (and help to define the SLI/SLO for new products). Our SREs work closely with our Operational Tools team to ensure that our CI/CD pipeline is as efficient as possible. \n\nThis role reports to an Engineering Manager.\n\nWho we are:\n\nIn 2021, Greenlight was valued at $2.3B, backed by leading venture capitalists and institutional investors. Now, it takes a special kind of person to join a never-been-done-before mission like ours. We need people who love working with each other because they know it makes us stronger, people who look to others and ask, “How can I help?” and then “How can we make this even better?” If you’re ready to roll up your sleeves and help parents raise a generation of financially smart kids, apply to join our team today.\n\nGreenlight is an equal opportunity employer and will not discriminate against any employee or applicant on the basis of age, color, disability, gender, national origin, race, religion, sexual orientation, veteran status, or any classification protected by federal state, or local law.

\nWho We Are:\n\nCardinal Financial is a nationwide direct mortgage lender whose mission is to prove that homeownership is possible for everyone. By bringing an open-minded approach to an often closed-minded industry, we're able to embrace every unique financial situation differently in order to craft the best possible loans for our borrowers. We pride ourselves on providing excellent service backed by our groundbreaking technology, and these two components of our process come together to complete a simple, personalized mortgage experience. But it all starts with our people.\n\nWe believe that no matter where you fit in our organization—Sales, Human Resources, Information Technology, or even re-stocking the break rooms with endless coffee supplies—everyone can influence the experience that we provide to our customers and our partners. We tell our customers and our partners that anything can be reimagined. So why not your career? Looking to join a company that values its people, innovates and expands on its proprietary technology, and is growing at a ridiculous rate?! Apply below!\n\nWho We Need:\n\nCardinal Financial understands that great people are the key to great companies. We are looking for intelligent, hard-working, passionate individuals that want to be part of something very different. We need people that dream big and possess a work ethic that will inspire those around them. We are seeking forward thinking people, who produce results rather than wait for them. You will not be micromanaged; but you will need to meet specific expectations and it will be entirely up to you to make sure that this happens. You will be backed by one of the strongest, most supportive and technical mortgage banking leadership teams in the industry and we are all committed to the success of the enterprise.\n\nWe are currently looking for energetic, hardworking, and knowledgeable Full Stack Software Engineers located on the East Coast and West Coast.\n\nWhat You Will Do:\n\n\n* You’ll be involved in every aspect of building and supporting our SaaS enterprise mortgage lending platform.\n\n* We’re an agile shop and you’ll be part of choosing what stories you’ll work on as they come up in the backlog.\n\n* You’ll do full-stack development because we’ve found it benefits the team and product when an engineer is familiar with the entire stack and has a genuine interest in all our software technology. We also recognize that each engineer is passionate and skilled in specific layers. We manage to blend the two realities very well.\n\n* You’ll manage your stories completely including working with end users to determine what is required, designing the UI, classes, business logic and data. We describe our approaches informally to get rapid review and critique by others.\n\n* You’ll write clean, concise code, and robust unit tests for all your work.  Finished code will be reviewed by others in the team. We mix up the review teams so everyone has good exposure to the whole system.\n\n* You’ll find ways to improve our product and how we work. We leverage tools and innovation to make more happen with less. When we identify an improvement, we implement it fast.\n\n* You’ll help with production support and help users when needed.\n\n\n\n\nWhat You Are Like:\n\nIf you think you’d like to work with us, here are some things that should apply to you:\n\n\n* You’re comfortable working in a small team. Each of us has a huge impact and we depend on each other to get things done.\n\n* You love a fast environment with a lot of churn.\n\n* You’re passionate about good object-oriented design, great UX, security, performance optimization and testing.\n\n* You pride yourself on understanding projects top to bottom.\n\n* You enjoy working alone or working with others. You’re comfortable doing things even when you’re not told exactly what to do.\n\n* You take pleasure in creation, chaos, spontaneity, change, debate and silence.\n\n* You like helping others become better and more successful. You know how to make life easier for others on your team.\n\n* You’re OK chipping in on things that have nothing to do with your current project, or helping with off-hour production emergencies and deployments.\n\n\n\n\nWhat You Need:\n\n\n* You have a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field and at least two years software development experience on a large-scale web application. Mortgage knowledge and experience is a plus.\n\n* You can analyze a feature story and design a robust and complete solution for it. You have excellent debugging skills and use tools to aid you.\n\n* You write well-designed, reliable code that you or others will find easy to understand and modify six months from now.\n\n* You know Java, databases and SQL very well. You’re comfortable with Linux commands and tools.\n\n* You’ve implemented UIs using HTML/CSS/Javascript. You’ve got solid JavaScript skills, including object-oriented JavaScript, not just jQuery. Experience with single-page application frameworks like Ember and Angular are a plus.\n\n* You're comfortable implementing integrations with third-party systems using HTTP and XML.\n\n* You know and use all of these: IDE, source control, debugger, continuous testing, build automation.\n\n* You communicate well whether you’re patiently helping a user, explaining a design to your colleagues, or writing a specification.\n\n\n\n\nOur Technology:\n\nOur SaaS enterprise mortgage lending platform is a challenging and complex system that includes lender and borrower interfaces, workflow, document management, advanced automation, and integrations with external entities and services.\n\nThe server architecture is stateless, cleanly managing the business logic and persistence layer, exposed as a RESTful JSON API. The server is written using a combination of Java 8 on Jetty, and Node.js for asynchronous tasks. We persist our data in MySQL using MyBatis and use Redis for caching, metrics, and non-critical message queueing.\n\nThe UI uses a custom, JavaScript MVC framework with many modern techniques: dynamic code loading modules, client-side routing and templates, powerful data-binding features, integrated services, and advanced component architecture.\n\nWe develop on Macs and deploy on AWS. Our tools include: github, Jenkins, gradle, grunt, JAXB, iText, Aspose, IntelliJ IDEA, Pivotal Tracker.

\n[Note: we are open to remote work but only if you can spend a minimum of one day per week in our Belfast office.]\n\nTHE ROLE\nYou’ll be the person responsible for building the front-ends to Opal, a cloud platform to create and manage Structured Documents: documents represented as data, created and managed programatically.\n\nYou'll be using JavaScript, React, HTML, and CSS to make the user experience sing. We don’t want your typical ugly enterprise app: it has to be elegant, delightful to use, and enticing during a demo.\n\nAs well as a magnificent web front-end, you’ll be working with Microsoft’s Office 365 JS API & Office Fabric to build document editing services right into the Word app.\n\nOur clients will generally be financial firms in the world’s leading financial centers, primarily New York City and London. You may need to travel occasionally, but not often.\n\nWe don’t care about prior experience in our industry (fintech); frankly we’d love it if you came from a design agency or other non-enterprise background. We want someone to build a wonderful user experience, and you can learn about the business domain while doing so.\n\nYOUR RESPONSIBILITIES\nYou’ll be doing some or all of the following:\n\n\n* working with our product manager to refine the UI/UX requirements\n\n* coding the front-end for the web and Office apps\n\n* writing some basic test packs. We won’t go overboard but we aren’t flying by the seat of our pants, either\n\n* in partnership with the CTO, the technical lead, and the rest of your team, defining and implementing standards for how we work: our agile methodology, coding standards, development tools, deployment practices, and more. This is a green field development and we want to use tomorrow’s best practices today.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWHO WE WANT \nWe are looking for a smart person with initiative and good judgment, who works well with others, and who will always look to balance the urgent needs of clients with the long-term technical architecture for our product.\n\nYou need to have:\n\n\n* excellent verbal and written communication skills\n\n* an eye for good design. You won’t be getting detailed wireframes, so your role will be at least partly that of a designer\n\n* a minimum of three years’ experience using client-side web technologies with a solid knowledge of HTML5 and CSS3, preferably gained from working at a design agency or product company\n\n* experience with ReactJS and knowledge of Node JS and webpack, as well as a unit testing framework such as Jest\n\n* prior experience working in agile \n\n* a pragmatic, get-it-done approach to things developers often don’t like e.g. writing tests, updating documentation, and talking to clients\n\n* a desire to learn new things. For example, we have a Ruby on Rails API, so there is an opportunity for someone who has good front end skills to become a full stack developer.\n\n\n\n\nA degree in Comp Sci or equivalent is great, but it’s not essential. It’s most important that you have good coding & design skills.\n\nAny of these things will help you stand out:\n\n\n* opinions – preferably grounded in knowledge and experience \n\n* experience on a team that has implemented a good continuous integration strategy (or if not, an awareness of the benefits of these strategies so you can champion them within the role)\n\n* Office 365 JS API experience would be wonderful (we know it’s a bit niche)\n\n* experience with Bootstrap or similar – we’ll be using Office Fabric, a similar library from Microsoft\n\n* working with RESTful API back-end components\n\n* development of a SaaS web product \n\n* experience working within a distributed development model i.e. with people in other locations and time zones. We’ll mostly be Belfast-based, but we may use specialists in other places such as sales engineers in London and New York. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nWHAT WE OFFER\n\nSalary is dependent on your experience and skillset. As well as the basics - competitive pay and benefits – we offer work on a greenfield product, in a small startup-like team. We’ll invest so you have good tools to work with and we’ll keep your skills up-to-date with a budget for technical books, training, and the like.

Engage in respectful and mindful conflict. Quality > quantity.\n\n\n\n* Know your stuff and know what you don't know;\n\n\n\n* No one is perfect but everyone can learn. Be humble enough to know your weaknesses. Be open minded and hard working enough to be able to fix them.\n\n\n\n* Take constructive critics;\n\n\n\n* Ask yourself "how to know if I'm wrong?". You may not, but not challenging your thinking is unhealthy. We challenge each other a lot @Scratchpay.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOur culture\n\nWe care about the human aspect of work and we expect others to. Excellence is also an important keyword @ Scratchpay. While everyone makes mistakes, we learn from them. We are conscious about efficiency and effectiveness in the positive way. There can be disconnects in the communication at times. We all need to navigate through this and push whenever it is critical to do so.\n\n* We are open-minded but things need to be moving forward.\n\n* We say what we have to. \nIBS has built and maintains an Accounting Management module as an integrated part of our Suite of Applications for golf and country clubs. This module allows clubs to manage their Payables, Banking, and General Ledger.\n\nAs part of this module, we have dozens of standard reports which our customers can use. However, in our experience, club reporting needs vary widely, leading to the business need for a custom financial report designer which would allow for customers to create their own financial statements and other reports.\n\nThe end product is a financial report designer with an Excel-like interface which allows club users to define for a given report what information will be shown, cell by cell. It will also have a formula wizard to help users with custom formulas to pull in the desired data. Data to be displayed on the reports is stored in a Microsoft SQL Server database.\n\nExample financial reports include Balance Sheet, Income Statement, Profit and Loss, Statement of Cash Flows, etc. The reports will pull account dollar figures, or budget figures.

\nWe're looking for a talented software engineer to join us in developing our personal finance app - MoneyHub. We help users plan and manage their finances with spending analysis, budgeting, investment tracking  and “what if” scenarios.\n\nYour work on this tool will directly help thousands (perhaps millions) of consumers get on top of their finances and make better informed financial decisions.\n\nWe are a full stack JS environment - you will be working with Node.JS and React.  We’re transitioning to a pragmatic micro-services based architecture and have an excellent CI system using tools such as Bamboo and Docker. We have solid test coverage across all of our modules - including a reliable BDD UI test suite. Experience with Node.JS is a plus, but not a requirement. We’re rather looking for software engineers who are passionate about building secure and reliable services through cleanly architected and well tested code.\n\nThis is a great opportunity to grow your skillset using the latest technologies. We use JavaScript throughout our stack: Node.JS & MongoDB on the server communicating via JSON with our Flux-React based client-side apps. We use Apache Cordova to distribute our app on iOS devices.\n\nWe’re a 50 person start-up who are now part of a large Insurance firm. We operate as our own business unit however - so we have the best of both worlds: start-up culture with enterprise backing. We invest in our team, with a generous training allowance and company pension plan and pride ourselves in creating an environment focussed on innovation, collaboration and openness. \n\nRole:  Software Engineer \n\nCulture: We're a young start-up with big ambitions. We're about collaboration and openness not command-and-control. We're fast moving and aim to iterate and ship fast.\n\nOpen Source: Our whole stack is based on open source software. We've contributed to open source frameworks and plan to to open source the reusable components from our application.\n\nStart Date: As soon as possible\n\nLocation: Centre of Bristol\n\nSalary: Excellent - dependent on experience
