**About GooseChase**\n\nGooseChase is a rapidly growing, fully remote web and mobile platform for creating and facilitating scavenger hunts. Through our website, organizers create custom "hunts" for anything from on-boarding new employees, touring museums, engaging at festivals, educating students and more! Participants can compete as teams or individuals to submit photo/video, text or GPS based missions through our native Android and iOS apps.\n\nThe key aspects of our platform are:\n\n* Game Manager (Web): The game manager is where game organizers create and manage their scavenger hunt games. We have an incredible number of different use cases for our platform, with various levels of organizer experience, making this a crucial interface for us to get right!\n\n* iOS & Android Apps: When someone participates in a GooseChase, they do so using our native mobile applications. The primary flows here are (i) finding & joining the right game, (ii) completing the missions via photos, videos, text responses & GPS check-ins, and (iii) staying up to date & engaged in the game via direct messages, announcements and bonuses from the game organizer. People can get very competitive when playing, so creating a seamless experience that doesnโ€™t get in the way makes a big difference.\n\nBecause of the flexibility and ease-of-use of our product, we have successfully powered game types ranging from festival-wide competitions, with thousands of dollars in prizes, to K-12 classroom lessons on government types, featuring gummy bears to help demonstrate the differences between a dictatorship and a democracy!\n\nSeeing the different ways the product can be used, and the joy it creates in those who participate, is an incredibly rewarding experience & is something weโ€™d love to share with you as well!\n\n**Perks**\n* Fully remote work - work whenever/wherever/however you want.\n* Competitive compensation & benefits, including stipends for equipment, co-working spaces, etc.\n* Join a company that is profitable & growing quickly, but still prioritizes doing the right thing over everything else.\n* Significant learning opportunities - whether itโ€™s learning about other parts of the business or taking on more responsibility, we expect everyone on the team to be continually looking to grow.\n\n# Responsibilities\n As our first full-time Product Designer, youโ€™ll have the opportunity to research & create new, exciting features for our game organizers & participants. You will work closely with our customers and collaborate with our product & revenue teams to ensure weโ€™re building the right thing in a beautiful, usable way.\n\nSpecific responsibilities include:\n\n* Being familiar and up-to-date with existing platform functionality and the use cases our customers have for those features.\n* Taking ownership of ideas all the way from the initial prototype phase to the final high-fidelity mockups phase and conducting the required customer & internal stakeholder research to get there.\n* Participating as an integral member of the product team - weโ€™re looking for someone who will readily work with the engineering team to understand existing design patterns for cost-effective development, while still prioritizing user delight!\n* Collaborating with the marketing team to create and design a mesmerizing story that immerses our customers in their journey through the product.\n* Working under limited supervision with significant latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. \n\n# Requirements\nThe candidate for this position must have:\n\n* 3+ years of product or UI/UX design experience.\n* A strong portfolio that highlights your ability to take concepts & turn them into highly usable, beautiful designs that achieve the desired business goals.\n* An ability to take ownership of work, maintaining high standards of design quality despite limited supervision.\n* Experience with standard design tools such as Figma, Sketch, Invision, etc.\n* Excellent written & verbal communication skills - as you may be occasionally writing customer facing copy, thereโ€™s a strong preference for native or near-native fluency in English.\n\nAlthough not required, it would be a big plus if the candidate:\n\n* Had past experience working with smaller teams, especially in a remote setting.\n* Is located within, or has regular working hours within the GMT-6 (CST) to GMT+1 (CET) time zones to ensure sufficient overlap with our distributed product team.\n* Has a passion for great stories! \n\nBe sure to mention the words **SNIFF ANNOUNCE WORLD** when applying to show you read the job post completely. \nWARNING\n\nI am just a one-man startup (with a few part timers), pre-product with no outside funding (yet). But I experienced a huge problem and have a great solution for it. But I need help.\n\nThis isn’t a job posting for someone who likes the 9-5 life and the safety of a regular paycheck.\n\nThis is a posting for someone who wants to make a fundamental improvement in the life of millions of people. There are approximately 1.5 billion language learners in the world, but only 7-15% can claim fluency. That means there are more than 1 billion people who started a language but never got there.\n\nIf you’re still reading and excited about the opportunity to promote foreign language literacy, you’re probably who I am looking for. \n\n--\n\nThe problem\n\nI speak Vietnamese, English and Japanese. My language ability has opened many doors and allowed me to travel the world. But learning a language IS HARD. And now I want to give back by making it easier to master a language. A. LOT. EASIER.\n\nStudying Japanese was probably one of the hardest things I have ever done. I have been studying for 7 years and at this point I still can’t say I’m fluent. I’m stuck at the intermediate hump, where real-world content is too difficult and time-consuming to master and most edtech tools like Duolingo are too basic. After a long day at work, I can’t be bothered to pick up a dense book full of characters that I don’t even know how to put in a dictionary in the first place. Studying a language requires persistence, time and motivation, which come in rare quantity for people with work and personal responsibilities.\n\n35% of all language learners are at the intermediate level, meaning that there are more than 500 million people who are likely facing the same issue I have. The most motivated ones make it over the hump, but most don’t.\n\n--\n\nThe solution\n\nI always wish I had a personal learning assistant, someone who would know my level and give me content that matches my current ability. Someone who would answer questions on the spot when I run into words or phrases I don’t know. Someone who would give me daily quizzes to make sure that I retain what I’m studying. That way, most of the time I spend studying is actually for studying, not fumbling around with a dictionary or flashcards.\n\nThat is the product I want to make. Using machine learning and natural language processing, as well as some good old spaced repetition system, I want to create a product that serves as your personal learning assistant. Showing is better than telling, so here is what it looks like: www.helium-app.com/?utm_source=stackoverflow. I don’t want to make a cookie-cutter language app, I want to make a pedagogically-informed, intelligent and personalized learning app. This is the future of edtech.\n\n--\n\nThe feedback\n\nIn about five days we’ve had 500 completely organic signups and tons of positive feedback. The average conversion rate is 20% (having excluded the first day which was mainly friends and family signups). People need this!\n\nHere is one:\n\n“My name is James and I'm more interested in Helium than the average person. I've been learning Chinese for years, and this is something I've always thought needed to be made. But on top of that, I'm a developer as well, and really appreciate the work you must be putting into this app. Right now I'm living in China still trying to improve my Chinese, and this app is basically exactly what I need. I have plenty of friends here studying for the HSK test that would absolutely love it as well.”\n\n--\n\nWhat’s in it for you\n\nIf you’ve gotten this far, chances are the opportunity to create something from scratch with massive potential impact together with smart and passionate colleagues is what gets you going. In addition to that, I will give you equity, and a lot of it, to make this thing happen. I’m committing my foreseeable future to this and just quit a very well-paid PM gig, and I want to make sure you do too.\n\nWe can talk about a minimal salary to support your expenses, but there is nothing that says I’m in like sipping ramen for months in exchange for a chunk of nothing that would be something when we make Helium a reality.\n\nJoin Helium, and rise!
