**Mission:** Shape everything 'design' at Aula and be the guiding voice for design throughout the whole product. \n\n**Who:** A humble and curious product designer who loves to deliver quality work that delivers impact. Aula is an **educational** technology company and that is a big reason for why you are applying.\n\n**How:** Work on all levels of the product, from gathering feedback from educators and students to designing beautiful solutions. Work hand-in-hand with product managers, engineers, learning specialists and our VP Product to implement your designs.\n\n## About you\n\nWe’re excited to tell you about Aula and what we’re working on, but first of all, let us explain who we’re looking for. The most important thing about you is that you are curious and care deeply about designing great products that affect people’s lives. You are excited about joining a startup with all the ups and downs that entails. You are transparent, reliable, considerate and ready to work hard to further our mission.\n\nYou have a real passion for precise design systems and designing mouth-watering user experiences. 🍭\n\nWhether you've previously worked at a startup, an agency or on your own projects, you've designed for both mobile and desktop, have experience leading the conceptualisation of a feature, an app or a whole design system. +1 if you have front-end engineering experience/interest.\n\n**Your location is flexible** - Aula is a fully distributed company - No offices :) You will be working with folks in the USA, Canada, UK, Netherlands, Georgia... You can be based anywhere from **GMT-6** to **GMT+1**, although we would need to be able to fly you into the UK a few times in the year.\n\nYou understand what working at a fast-pace startup means. We get close to our users to try to understand in detail their needs but we then trust our intuition to move fast. Aula will not be a place where we take months to research, design, build and ship, we design efficiently and don't hesitate to iterate constantly.\n\n# Responsibilities\n We’re looking for a complete product designer who enjoys working on a design solution from beginning to end.\n\n- Sitting down with students, educators, university administrators and the rest of the team to clearly understand existing infrastructures and determine existing pain points.\n- Conceptualise design solutions.\n- Design those solutions to the pixel.\n- Help the engineering team implement the designs.\n\nYou can be working at all levels, from designing a whole app from scratch to going into detailed optimisations for our custom-designed editor or the chat structure of our direct messages.\n \n\n# Requirements\n**You are the type of person who**\n\n- Appreciates the value of diverse and inclusive teams.\n- Isn’t afraid to meet teachers and understand teaching workflows.\n- Can seamlessly transition from collaborating with the PM on understanding the problem to working with engineers to implement the solution.\n- Wants to foster a culture of no-ego team players.\n- Can arrange a working day with 6 hours of overlap with the workday in GMT (and no further East than GMT +1).\n\n**You’ve done some of these things**\n\n- Been part of an excellent product-focused organisation, working directly with PMs and engineers.\n- Worked to increase engagement as part of your measure of success on a previous project.\n- Worked on an Agile development team with incremental releases (or continuous delivery). \n\n#Salary\n$85,000\n\n\n#Location\nGMT -6 / +1

> **Build a high-performing, diverse and mission-driven product organisation from scratch.**\n\n## The short version ⏳\n\n**Mission:**  Build a high-performing, diverse and mission-driven product organisation from scratch - think 'COO for product'.\n\n**Why:**  Shape the whole edtech industry by building a ‘foundational layer’ that can power an ecosystem of integrations - with the ultimate goal of making every student feel part of a learning community.\n\n**Who:**  An experienced product manager who has built teams from scratch and led them through scale. People-focused yet process-nerd.\n\n## What is [Aula](https://aula.education)? 🐝\n\nAula is a remote-first 35-person team from 11 nationalities building a communication platform for education. Think ‘Slack for education’.\n\nPowered by an ecosystem of integrations, Aula is the foundational layer in the tech stack that shapes a whole industry.\n\nWe built Aula because we believe digital infrastructure should encourage community and participation-based learning.\n\nWe’re backed by people like the founder of Unity, CTO at Eventbrite, a co-founder of Zendesk, a co-founder of JustEat and world-class VCs like Project A, BrightEye and Sunstone.\n\n## **The role: VP Product 🚀**\n\n‘COO for Product’ - focused on people and process - and member of Aula’s exec team.\n\nWork with Adrian, our CPO, to craft a world-class product organisation and shape how we build products at Aula.\n\nWe’ve built a minimum viable replacement of the current digital learning infrastructure at universities (Learning Management Systems). We’re now on a path to scale a team and build Aula into the platform that will make Learning Management Systems a thing of the past. \n\nYou’ll be the first product manager, but your trajectory is clear: lead the product organisation.\n\nInitially, you’ll build the team and leading a product area in parallel. As soon as we (or you 🤓) hire your replacement on your product area, you’ll focus on building the product organisation and defining our product management processes.\n\n## Read the full job description [__here__](https://www.notion.so/aulaeducation/Remote-VP-Product-Aula-3b0b311bf9b94f31aee1d25d8208a3ff) 🤓
