Nadine West is hiring a Remote Senior Full Stack Rails Engineer

Founded in 2013, Nadine West sends personalized outfits to your doorstep every month. No subscription fees. Pay for only what you like.\n\n**DESCRIPTION**\n\nReporting directly to the Lead Engineer, you will dive in and take ownership of our existing codebase, helping extend and scale our bespoke recommendations engine, order management, inventory, shipping, and reporting components.\n\nThis is a great opportunity to help lead the engineering team of a startup that is already profitable, already a well-known brand for women, but is still growing fast even in COVID times. # Software Engineer (Mid / Senior Positions Open)\n## LeadSimple, Inc\n\nLeadSimple is a fully-remote, motivated team solving big problems in the property management industry. Bootstrapped since 2013, we're passionate about helping small businesses simplify growth and streamline operations, providing the leading CRM in our space. Engineering works closely with our Product and Success teams to discover and deliver features that will make a real difference in a product our customers use every day.\n\n**Tech Stack**\nIn 2019 we re-built our tech stack in a phased rewrite (rather than a big-bang project) to adopt React, Typescript, and Relay on the front-end, talking to a GraphQL API powered by Ruby on Rails. (We also have a side project written in Elixir.) We have experience refactoring a large codebase, so we seek to move fast without creating technical debt (test coverage is important). We practice continuous deployment, dividing work into weekly sprints.\n\n**Team**\nWe're a _fully remote team_ working across 6 time zones, and we make heavy use of Slack and Zoom for communication throughout the day. We value work/life balance and work at a sane pace, 40 hour weeks, Monday - Friday. Our engineering team currently maintains 2-3 hours of overlap with US Pacific Time, to facilitate collaboration.\n\nWe prioritize customer impact across the organization. Our Success and Product teams work closely with end users on a daily basis, using their feedback to refine our roadmap and assist Engineering in creating an exceptional product.\n\nWe're looking for motivated and productive team members to help accelerate progress on our roadmap. We're open to mid or senior roles at this time.\n\n## Mid-Level Software Engineer\n\nYou have a solid understanding of core engineering concepts, are able to master our tech stack, tools and processes, and become a productive contributor to new feature development.\n\nRequired Skills:\n* Experience with Ruby on Rails and 1 or more of our other core technologies: React, Typescript, RelayJS, GraphQL\n* Taking well-scoped components to completion within a reasonable time frame\n* Great communicator, asks questions, explains themselves, open to feedback\n* Proficient learner and problem solver\n* Cares for the end-user (see [The Product-Minded Engineer](https://blog.pragmaticengineer.com/the-product-minded-engineer/))\n\n[Apply Here](https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeF5zo6hIcTQK8gP9LLGz6sTZMXGI1vDHPVbkpISxiy9CvOfQ/viewform?usp=pp_url&entry.473179885=Software+Engineer)\n\n## Senior Software Engineer\n\nYou are a rock-solid engineer with mastery of at least one domain. You can own technical design for projects of moderate complexity, understand trade-offs, debug systems in your domain, and write high quality code while getting a lot done. You're collaborative and an active contributor to product discovery conversations.\n\nRequired Skills:\n* Experience with 3 or more of our core technologies: React, Typescript, RelayJS, GraphQL, Ruby on Rails\n* Experience translating complex user stories into detailed requirements\n* Highly productive, moves fast without breaking things\n* Great collaborator, takes initiative, asks questions, explains themselves, open to feedback\n* Proficient learner and problem solver\n* Cares for the end-user (see [The Product-Minded Engineer](https://blog.pragmaticengineer.com/the-product-minded-engineer/))\n\n[Apply Here](https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeF5zo6hIcTQK8gP9LLGz6sTZMXGI1vDHPVbkpISxiy9CvOfQ/viewform?usp=pp_url&entry.473179885=Senior+Software+Engineer)\n\n## Benefits\n\nBoth positions offer the following benefits:\n* Early Off Fridays (every other Friday afternoon off)\n* 3 Weeks Paid Vacation (in addition to the above, but includes local bank holidays)\n* Healthcare Allowance\n* Vacation Allowance\n\n\nSelected candidates will be invited to a 30-minute call, followed by a 90-minute structured interview to discuss your career and some technical questions related to your role.\n\nIf you enjoy owning the outcome for customers, influencing product, and honing your craft, we'd love to talk to you.\n\n[Apply Here](https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeF5zo6hIcTQK8gP9LLGz6sTZMXGI1vDHPVbkpISxiy9CvOfQ/viewform) \n\n#Salary and compensation\n$50,000 — $100,000/year\n\n\n#Location\n🌏 Worldwide

With our SaaS we’re automating a large chunk of the busy-work that accountants are currently handling manually, and are building new tools so they can provide better services to their customers. We aim to optimize their workflow in such a way that accountants can spend more time on the much more impactful and rewarding work of advising their customers, the business owners.\n\nThe good news is we’re succeeding in doing exactly that. Every day more than 15.000 financial service professionals use Silverfin to help and advise more than 200.000 businesses. Our customers adore us! The even better news is there’s still plenty left to work on, and that’s where we hope you come in.\n\n\n\n### What makes the engineering team at Silverfin special?\n\nWe’re a remote-first engineering team of 25 people distributed in 14 different countries. A priority for us is maintaining proper work-life balance. We avoid meetings as much as possible, accept deadlines only when absolutely necessary, and never expect anyone to work longer hours than they’ve signed up for. A day in our working lives is pretty boring in this regard, and we feel that’s exactly how it should be.\n\nWorking with us means you can be flexible with your schedule. It’s OK to disappear for a few hours in the middle of the day to run some errands, get a haircut, pick up the kids — whatever reason, you don’t need to explain yourself. You also fully decide when you take time off: our team is sufficiently varied and well organized that there are always enough people around to handle the load, and in the rare cases it’s not, we will decrease the load instead of asking people to move their holiday.\n\nBeing remote-first means we favor asynchronous communication. We don’t shy away from chatting in Slack, but the important decisions or discussions are done in Gitlab issues, over email, or in our wiki, so there’s a written, persisted record. We’re mindful of maintaining long chunks of focussed time, which means we avoid @-mentions or PMs on Slack, and other triggers and interrupts. We encourage using Slack’s DnD function, especially when you’re not working!\n\nWe’d be really happy to welcome you in our #dev channel, but it’s not just virtual: we make sure we regularly get to see each other in real life too. Twice a year we fly the whole engineering team together to a different location in Europe, and at least once a year we join up with the rest of the company so we can spend some time together with the other departments.\n\n\n\n### What does working at Silverfin look like?\n\nWe work in nimble teams around 5 people in size, with each team taking ownership of a specific set of features of the application. Teams are responsible for a full slice across the stack, so both the backend as well as the frontend of each part is maintained by the same people.\n\nYou’ll be supported by our UI designer who develops and maintains HTML and CSS components into a reusable UI-framework, and even builds Vue.js prototypes where necessary, handling compatibility problems with different browsers for you, and making sure everything is responsive as well.\n\nOur ops team ensures things run smoothly, deploys happen correctly, and will work with you when issues should arise. We’re enthusiastic followers of the devops mindset, which means ops and developers work together to solve problems, and empower each-other to be self-sufficient, instead of throwing problems over the wall to the “other side”.\n\nOur stack is Vue.js and vanilla JS with a sprinkling of jQuery on the frontend and an up-to-date Rails monolith on the backend. We use PostgreSQL and Redis for persistence and caching, and everything is running on a Kubernetes cluster in Google Cloud. Our daily tools include GitLab, Quip and Slack, with Zoom as our remote conferencing tool of choice.\n\nNo code gets deployed without a code-review by a peer and testing is a must. Our pipeline automates deployment when the suite is green, and deploys happen dozens of times a day. Each team is currently doing Kanban, but they’re free to follow whatever process suits them best. There are regular retros held to work towards continuous improvement.\n\nSoftware for accountants is not considered to be very exciting, but we have our fair share of technical challenges. To give you a sense of scale: our database exceeds 7TB, and our largest table recently crossed the 10 billion row mark. We interface with more than 30 different external APIs, and provide third parties an API of our own.\n\n*: Our ops team noted that this actually isn’t that hard to achieve if you’re just indexing everything, but it still sounds impressive, right?\n\n\n\n### What does your future look like?\n\nPersonal growth is key to staying motivated. At Silverfin you don’t need to move to management in order to get promoted. We see the individual contributor track and the management track as two different growth paths which every engineer can follow and switch between. You can be promoted, including pay raises, as a contributor just like as a manager.\n\nEveryone has a €1000 yearly budget to spend on conferences, courses, workshops or other training to improve their skills and level up. This also includes accommodation, travel costs. If the conference is on a workday you’ll get paid like any normal day. Silverfin colleagues regularly visit conferences across the world. Are you going to Euruko this year? Come say hi!\n\nWe’re looking to hire a lot of new colleagues, and by the end of the year we’d like to have a couple of more teams. Each new team would also need a new teamlead, and we prefer to promote from within the engineering team. This means if you’d like to step onto the management track, there will be plenty of opportunities to do so in the near future. We pro-actively keep track of who would be interested, and provide feedback and learning opportunities to work towards such a goal.\n\n\n\n### What are we looking for?\n\n* You’re experienced in both Ruby and Rails, and also understand where the boundaries lie between them. You can code in Ruby without any of Rails’ training wheels if necessary.\n* You’re up for mentoring coworkers and can give in-depth, productive feedback during code reviews. While you appreciate the small stuff, you recognize bikeshedding and can avoid its pitfalls.\n* You code with reason and can justify the important decisions you made during development.\n* You can communicate clearly in English, both written and verbally.\n* You know and can apply best practices when relevant. That means the usual like version control, testing, and refactoring; but also higher level concepts such as good object oriented design.\n* You're aware of the trade-offs involved in proper engineering and can make balanced business decisions, keeping in mind all the stakeholders of the project.\n* You’ve got opinions on code design and you can discuss them, but you’re professional enough to not let those opinions get in the way of a consensus if necessary.\n\n\n\n### What can we offer you?\n\n* Actual, proper work-life balance\n* A salary range of €60.000 - €100.000 a year\n* Choose your own working hours and work 100% remotely\n* Personal growth training and opportunities\n* Join a distributed remote-first engineering team with 25 colleagues in 14 different countries\n* A refreshing work environment with professional, friendly and welcoming colleagues\n* A €1000 yearly budget for conferences, courses, workshops or other expenses that will improve your skills\n\n\n\n### Requirements\n\n* You have at least 4 years of experience working with Ruby, or 2 years of experience with Ruby and 4 years in one or more other programming language.\n* You get Rails\n* Your work hours have some overlap with EU business hours (we require your local timezone to be within CET +/- 3h)\n\n\n### Nice to have’s\n\nThese would be nice but are definitely not necessary. Don’t worry if none of the following applies to you.\n\n* Experience as a remote worker in a fully remote team\n* Experience with Javascript (ES6) and frontend frameworks\n* Experience working with large datasets and the problems they bring\n* Experience in Fintech\n* Accounting knowledge \n\n#Salary and compensation\n$74,000 — $123,000/year\n\n\n#Location\n🌏 Worldwide

As a senior backend developer at [Baremetrics](https://baremetrics.com), you will be working on a variety of projects from payment provider integrations and data ingestion to metrics processing and user-facing features.\n\nWe're a very small team with a huge bias for simplicity. Baremetrics has grown to its current state with just 2 backend developers. You'll be working on projects, large and small, from inception to completion.\n\nWe approach our work with focus and purpose in an environment of trust and autonomy. When we work on a difficult problem, we take the time to think through and research the possible solutions and then write an implementation plan. Sometimes that may also include some tinkering.\n\n## The way we work\nYou are free to work from anywhere and choose your own hours. Much of our product team are located in Europe, but the team as a whole is spread across five countries and many timezones. Our general cadence is two-week product sprints followed by a bug week. Bug weeks can also include chores, refactoring or customer support.\n\n## The stack you’ll use\nAll of our code lives in a mono repo and all of our backend code is written in Ruby. Postgres is our main database and our frontend is moving towards a single-page application written in Vue and Typescript. You should feel comfortable exploring and learning new technologies and languages.\n\n## The work to be done\nWe have interesting engineering challenges and exciting plans for the future of the product, much of which revolves around processing and finding insights in large data sets.\n\nHere are some examples of the type of problems you would work on:\n\n* Rewrite our Stripe integration from scratch\n* Investigate metric discrepancies reported by customers and fix them at the root cause\n* Work on making customer segmentation 10,000x faster\n* Investigate and fix a race condition in our Messaging Code\n* Implement a new user-facing product feature\n* Develop tooling to surface business insights across many terabytes of data\n\n## About you\nYou have a strong track record of shipping great products using Ruby. You understand the language in depth. You should also be experienced in SQL query optimization and designing efficient schemas, as that's a big part of our core business logic.\n\nWe expect you to be self-motivated and self-directed, a strong individual contributor and true "manager of one". Almost all of our communication happens in writing and while we do sometimes pair program, what we don't do is "meetings". It is important that you are a good writer and effective communicator.\n\n## The hiring process\nThere are a few stages in the hiring process. We know how nerve racking applying for a new job can be and we want to make it as smooth and enjoyable as possible. We're looking to make an offer to someone no later than September 30.\n\n**Stage 1: Initial application & questions** — You’ll send in your basic info and answer a few questions about your experience and skills. If we believe you’d be a good fit based on that initial application, we’ll dive in with a few more questions to learn more about you, what you want out of your career and how we can help you be successful.\n\n**Stage 2: Test Project** — We’ll do a test project to learn about how you approach problem solving as well as to get a feel for your coding style. The will take up to a few hours to complete.\n\n**Stage 3: Interviews** — You’ll having a video interview with someone on the engineering team to talk through your test project. You’ll then do a final video interview with our CEO to talk company culture, benefits, perks and the future of the company as well as to answer any questions you have.\n\n**Stage 4: Job Offer** — After consulting a few of your references, we’ll make an offer and hope that you’ll join the team!\n\n## Benefits\n* Work from anywhere (we're 100% remote)\n* [Minimum vacation policy](https://baremetrics.com/blog/unlimited-minimum-vacation)\n* Salary range of $100k-140k\n* Bonus structure\n* Flexible work hours\n* Full health, vision & dental insurance for you and your family\n* Annual company meetups\n* Kindle Paperwhite + Unlimited Books\n* Monthly "remote stipend" that you can use for anything\n\n## About Baremetrics\nBaremetrics is a business analytics & insights company. We provide the tools and data businesses need to make solid business decisions.\n\nFounded in 2013, we're working hard to help businesses spend less time crunching numbers and looking at spreadsheets and instead give them instant access to metrics and business insights that they need to run their businesses.\n\nWe're not some flash-in-the-pan startup...we're seven years old, profitable, doing over $1.5M in revenue and growing. Nearly 1,000 business from all over the world trust us to help them grow their businesses.\n\nWe're looking for folks who like to solve problems and build a business and product that people genuinely love to interact with.\n\nRead about working at Baremetrics: [https://baremetrics.com/about](https://baremetrics.com/about) \n\n#Salary and compensation\n$125,000/year\n\n\n#Location\n🌏 Worldwide

*Before you start reading, keep in mind that the aim of this job ad is to give you a feel for what it’s like to work at Catapult. There’s lots of research that suggests people often don’t apply because of so-called “requirements” in a job description. If you’re experienced in React, Rails or Elixir and open to working across the stack, we’d love to hear from you! *\n\n**What you’re getting yourself into**\nOur mission is to build the world’s best, flexible job. We spend our time thinking about how to give a global workforce complete control of their own work life while automating the hundreds of thousands of man hours which would normally be required to manage people on this scale.\n\nWe do this using React & Typescript on the frontend backed up by GraphQL servers, some written in Ruby and Rails and some in Elixir and Phoenix.\n\nBusinesses ranging from the largest high-street retailers to five star hotels and independent coffee boutiques rely on Catapult as their casual workforce. If you’ve spent time in a large UK city, you’ve probably been served by a Catapult waiter or sales assistant without even realising it! \n\nWe’re well funded by some amazing investors, our product is live in over 100 locations across the UK and we’ve recently launched in Berlin making us the first and only pan-european player in this space.\n\nOur company values https://writing.joincatapult.com/our-values/ are really important to us and influence every facet of how we work together.\n\n**Things we’ve been working on recently**\nNo two days are ever the same in a startup, but to give you a flavour of what we’ve been up to recently:\n\n* Standardising on React, Typescript and GraphQL across our suite of applications\n* Using Kubernetes to automatically deploy standalone environments for our feature branches, complete with anonymised production data\n* Applying machine learning to the billions of data points we generate each year to completely obsolete the interview process\n* Preparing the entire Rails, Phoenix, React and React Native environment for Globalization\n\n**About Us**\nWe’ve been growing rapidly over the last three years and as we continue our international roll out, we’re looking for ambitious engineers to help us build the future of work. Our engineering principles https://writing.joincatapult.com/engineering-principles/ give a good feel for how we work together and what we value. \n\nWe’re a distributed, remote first engineering organisation with team members in Prague, Gdansk, London, Bristol, Bournemouth and Bangkok. We work in autonomous pods, each of which has ownership of one area of our business. We’re open to remote applicants from anywhere within the EU.\n\n**Benefits**\nAs well as being a part of a well funded startup at one of the most exciting phases of it’s growth, you’ll get:\n\n* Competitive salary + stock options + 25 days paid holiday per year (and a very permissive unpaid leave policy)\n* For every year you're at Catapult, get an extra day of paid holiday\n* A strong approach to professional development and mentorship, everyone has a dedicated L&D budget for books, training and the like\n* Several product retreats per year where the whole team goes on a team retreat, looks back on how we can improve and then spends a week or so hacking on new ideas and exploring new technologies\n* Regular social events & the opportunity to travel to our other offices\n* Company Macbook Pro and generous equipment budget to get your perfect setup\n* A flexible work environment focussed on output not hours\n* Unlimited books (any book, ebook or audio book you want, we'll cover it!)\n\n# Responsibilities\n No two days are the same, but you'll be working with a diverse, remote team following an agile, sprint based process. \n\n# Requirements\nWe're not big on fixed requirements but it's quite likely:\n\n* You're heavily product focussed, you love building and shipping things people will actually use and enjoy thinking about the user and their perspective as well as the technical solution\n* You really buy into the importance of getting things into the hands of a user quickly and then iterating\n* You actively think about when to incur technical debt and when to pay it back\n* You like to explore new technologies and have a keen eye for when something new can add real business value \n* You’re in favour of, but pragmatic about, automated testing. You like all production grade code to have good test coverage but understand when it may make sense to test MVP’s with a lower degree of test coverage\n\nWe generally look for “T shaped” engineers, people who are happy to work across the stack but have a particular leaning. We’re looking for a few different “leanings” at the moment so probably one of the following applies to you:\n\n* You’re passionate about building frontends in React, you’ve either worked with or want to work with React Native and if you’re not already a Typescript & GraphQL user, you’re excited for their potential to improve the way we build complex client applications\n* You’re an engineer but secretly love infrastructure and devops. You’re just as happy writing Ansible scripts, tweaking kubernetes or finding crazy new ways for CI to make our lives better\n* You’ve been getting deeper and deeper into Elixir and Phoenix over the last few years and as much as you enjoy Rails, you feel like Elixir just might be the future. You love explaining to people what a GenServer is and why it’s awesome\n* You’ve spent a lot of time working with data scientists recently, helping to embed the models they build in production systems \n\n#Salary and compensation\n$75,000/year\n\n\n#Location\nEU Only

### About us:\n\nSince 2005, over 300,000 websites have used Crazy Egg to understand how their audience experiences their website and their product. We are pioneers in data visualization, in conversion rate optimization, and in helping small and medium businesses get immense value quickly and accurately from incredibly large data sets. That's what we love to do. We are looking for a product and customer minded Full Stack Engineer to help build on that foundation and improve our product, and the tools, technology and platform we use to help our customers. You will be joining Crazy Egg as a Full Stack Engineer and help in scaling our systems and move us towards a service oriented architecture. Here's what that looks like at Crazy Egg, and here are the values you’d be excited to stand behind:\n\n### As a team we strive for:\n\n- Direct, undeniable, customer impact. We have incredible customers that we're grateful for and we believe the best teammates are the ones who, regardless of function or discipline, are eager and excited to find a way to connect their work directly to customers.\n- Trusted independence with interdependence. You are fully trusted as a full owner of the work you do; self-determined, responsible, accountable, and celebrated. With that freedom, you acknowledge, a broader social context. We work together, we partner, we collaborate, and we make sure the work we take on and hand off is done thoughtfully and with care.\n- Assume positive intent. All outcomes may not be what we desired, what we expected, or what we needed. But they happened because people take chances and are willing to make decisions. We assume people try their hardest and try their best, we assume their actions started with the most positive of intentions. Every conversation, assessment, piece of feedback, starts with that assumption, on both sides. This ensures our team is built on a foundation of trust.\n- Care and inclusion; sincerely. We work at Crazy Egg because we believe in the opportunity, we believe in the vision, we believe in our people, and we believe in our ability to build something wonderful. It is those beliefs that also mean we care about the market, we care about the vision, we care about each other, and we care about building something wonderful. When all of this falls into place, our customers are able to build better businesses and succeed.\n\n\n### As an engineer what we hope you strive for:\n\n- The ability to work independently and with other engineers to develop new user experience-focused web applications, or provide support for existing systems.\n- Have the ability to work on multiple parts of a web application, from internal backend APIs to dynamic frontend interfaces.\n- Collaborate with designers, front-end specialists, other engineers, stakeholders, and clients to understand business goals, analyze requirements, formulate solutions, and ensure the successful execution and delivery of the end product using the best technologies.\n- Assist in scoping, estimating, and planning of projects.\n- Participate in code review, pairing, and other forms of knowledge sharing.\n- Support of production applications may be required on some projects.\n- Mentoring and helping others grow and make an impact\n\n### Experience and Skills we’re looking for:\n\n- Prior experience in developing single page applications - We use Ember.js/React/Redux/GraphQL\n- Prior experience developing web applications using web frameworks - We use Ruby on Rails/Node/Elixir/Phoenix.\n- Excellent planning, communication and collaboration skills\n- Understanding of best practices for web development and software design\n\n### Nice to have, but not required experience:\n\n- Previous remote working experience (nice to have but not necessarily required)\n- Prior client services, consulting, or freelancing experience\n- Working in a startup environment\n- Previous role as a team leader\n- Working on web applications that process large volumes of data and/or receive high volumes of traffic\n- Using a variety of AWS tools\n- Using Docker and Kubernetes in a production environment\n\n\n### Perks and Benefits\n\n- We believe in building the best team possible, regardless of geographic location. Our team is fully distributed all over the world and we believe in working where you’re the most productive and happiest.\n- We have full trust in you and believe in finding a good balance. Work should be a paced marathon, not a sprint, and so. \n- We have an unlimited vacation policy.\n- We provide full benefits of Dental/Medical.\n- We believe in supporting your growth and opportunity. Howdy 👋We’re the folks at Jilt, an email marketing platform built for eCommerce. We help thousands of stores surprise and delight their customers with automated emails that drive sales. We’re looking for a driven, detail-oriented engineer to join our team and build fast, scalable backend systems in Rails.\n\n**The Role**\n\nYou’ll work closely with your teammates on the engineering team to design, create, and refine systems that power the core platform; things like syncing data with external eCommerce platforms, optimizing our sending architecture & scheduler, and analyzing browsing & shopping behavior data. Jilt is built as a traditional Rails 5.2 app, with Postgres & Elasticsearch for persistence, and Sidekiq for background jobs. We use Angular (v1) to power our visual email editor and Vue.js for some areas with a lot of dynamic content, and are planning to replace both with React in the near future, so you’ll be able to help architect the APIs that will drive those new interfaces.\n\nWhile the majority of your time will be spent working on backend systems & features, you’ll also have the opportunity to work on various front-end systems, like fixing a bug with our email editor, replacing a legacy Slim template with a React view, or adding a new feature to our storefront JS.\n\nAs one of our senior engineers, the team will look to you for advice and direction. You’ll help shape our best practices, decide on libraries & tooling, and refactor older or underperforming parts of the codebase. You’ll also be responsible for moving your projects forward, communicating your progress and milestones with others, and clearly documenting your work.\n\nOur team is fully-remote and we communicate primarily through Slack, Clubhouse, Google Docs, Basecamp, and weekly stand-ups via Zoom (a few short meetings) — we believe the best work happens when given lots of uninterrupted time that’s free of distractions.\n\nAs a remote team, we believe that regular meetups are invaluable for getting to know each other better, so you should be available for 1-2 company-paid team trips per year. Curious about what those are like? Check out our[ recap](https://www.skyverge.com/blog/skytrip-2018-recap/) of our last team retreat (SkyTrip), which brought the entire team out to Lake Tahoe, California for a week. It’s a plus if you think (like we do) that bears are absolutely the coolest animals in the forest.\n\nThis is a full-time, salaried position, but hours are flexible. We know your work will speak for itself with commits, issues closed, and wiki edits.\n\n**Benefits**\n\nHere are some benefits we're happy to offer to our team members:\n\n* Competitive salary\n* Annual incentive for meeting team and company goals\n* 27 days of paid time-off, in addition to 2 company holidays (SkyVerge Day in March, Founders Day in June 😀)\n* Medical, Dental, and Vision insurance for US and Canadian residents and their families (reimbursements for comparable care for non-US/Canadian residents)\n* 401k/RRSP Retirement plan with 4% company match for US/Canadian residents (contributions to comparable plans for non-US/Canadian residents)\n* 8 weeks paid parental leave for new mothers and fathers\n* Work flexible hours from anywhere that has a reliable internet connection\n* Tools (hardware/software) to help you be productive\n* Allowance for professional growth (books, courses, conferences)\n* Home office or co-working allowance\n* A Kindle to help you keep learning\n\n# Responsibilities\n **Here are some things you may do on a given day:**\n* Research and write a pitch to improve the performance of our email scheduling system\n* Refactor our storage subsystem to abstract how we handle file uploads\n* Troubleshoot an issue with our campaign segmentation feature by deep diving into our Elasticsearch cluster\n* Analyze a slow SQL query and suggest ways to improve it\n* Construct a detailed, multi-step data migration to split an existing model into two, with zero-downtime and including complicated data transformations\n* Triage the Sentry queue for any exceptions that need investigation\n* Develop a new API endpoint to support updated React components\n\n**On the first day you will:**\n* Meet your team and get familiar with how we work\n* Setup your local environment and tooling\n* Commit a small tweak to the codebase and ship it to production\n\n**In the first week you will: **\n* Develop, QA, review, and ship a small feature improvement\n* Participate in code review for a teammate’s code\n* Help a team member with fixing a bug\n\n**In the first month you will: **\n* Work closely with the product team to ship a large feature\n* Participate in your first support rotation week and help our support team with escalated issues\n* Publish a retrospective on your first large project to share successes & planned improvements for the next project \n\n# Requirements\nYou love writing code that’s clear, self-documenting (but you know that self-documenting doesn’t mean no comments), and standards-compliant. You prefer writing Ruby, but are comfortable in JavaScript or picking up other languages (like Go or PHP) as needed. You have deep experience working with Rails and all of its libraries and know when to roll a custom solution to a problem or use a gem. You’ve worked with Sidekiq or a similar background processing system, and understand the subtle but important guidelines to follow when architecting performant, fault-tolerant background workers.\n\nYou also love data and working with complex queries in SQL, whether as part of ActiveRecord or on the console. You have experience with Elasticsearch, or are excited to learn it, and are interested in the challenges involved with keeping separate datastores in sync. You love keeping up-to-date with the latest best practices and tools, and are constantly tweaking and improving the way you work. You know how to operate a hydraulic press, or least watched a YouTube video about them and think they’re totally rad.\n\nYou’re excited to solve engineering challenges in the most pragmatic way possible, and most importantly, you keep the end user in mind and love getting feedback from customers to help improve our products.\n\nFinally, you can’t wait to join a small team that loves their work as much as you do, affords the opportunity to work on challenging & interesting projects, continuously learn and improve, and constantly ship your work. You’re an excellent writer and can communicate effectively whether drafting up a bug report, chatting in Slack, editing a wiki page, or drafting a retrospective. You know that code is about communication and explaining your thought process clearly goes hand-in-hand.

**Plug in Useful make some of the [most popular SaaS web apps for Shopify](http://https://www.pluginuseful.com/collections/apps). With over 100k users we've followed the rapid growth of Shopify and are looking to add a senior engineer to our 100% remote team of six.**\n\nAs a Senior Software Engineer you'll have worked with React and Rails before and ideally have used the Flux pattern on a decent-sized web app. You can both architect software, building it from the ground up, and maintain existing systems in a thoughtful way.\n\nJust as important is how you approach problems and work in the team. We don't want someone who puts their headphones on for three days and churns out code. Your instinct is to collaborate.\n\nYou'll work closely with our product manager to gather requirements, come up with technical solutions, present these in a clear non-technical way and agree on what to do.\n\nYou'll both mentor and learn from our software engineer through code reviews and working on problems together. And you'll help our QA tester to understand changes, how best to test them and be responsive in fixing bugs.\n\nWe're 100% remote across different timezones so clear, regular communication is key. Your location isn't important as long as there's a roughly 4 hour overlap with Eastern Time and European Time.\n\nYou're experienced in working remotely and have found a schedule and setup that works best for you. If that's a coworking space we can pay for that, but that's optional since you decide where you're at your most productive.\n\n### Skills & Experience\n* 1+ years React or similar frontend frameworks\n* 3+ years Rails\n* 5+ years software engineering\n* Have worked on web apps, ideally B2B SaaS\n* Software architecture\n* Have used a few different software patterns\n* Very collaborative\n* Clear non-technical communicator\n* Have worked remotely\n* Curious about new technologies\n* Ideally have worked with Kanban \n\nFull time, 100% remote from any location with a 4 hour overlap with Eastern Time and European Time. We believe strongly in work/life balance with reasonable hours (usually 37.5 hours or occasionally more when required) and paid time off. \n\n# Requirements\nApply by sending your CV and a brief email intro to [email protected] We love it when you mention something from the job description.

This job post is closed and the position is probably filled. Please do not apply.
**Area is modernising the user experience of buying and renting a home. We’re a platform for estate agents and their customers that makes it easier and faster to get things done. Area is an early stage, fully-remote and revenue-generating startup (based out of London). The team you’ll work with were the engineering and product VPs at Yoyo Wallet who laid the groundwork for it to become Europe’s fastest growing mobile wallet.**\n\nArea’s clients include some of the best-performing estate agents in the UK and over 10,000 customers interact with Area’s software each month (and may not even know it). If the words “estate agent” put you off, they shouldn’t! Our clients love us because we’re industry outsiders and we challenge the status quo. Most of the problems and challenges we're solving are no different than those at other early-stage startups.\n\n**The Role:**\n\nWe are looking for a remote software engineer with experience building commercially-deployed Rails applications to join us as we scale-up our infrastructure, engineering team and product. This is very much a get your hands dirty start-up role rather than a clock in-and-out role. As it’s remote, there is lots of flexibility around your working schedule, but we’re all about getting things done, so you’ll need to pull your weight. With that said, we value working smarter instead of harder and finding balance.\n\n**Must Haves:**\n\n* Extensive and current understanding of Ruby on Rails\n* Good track record of working on commercial-deployed projects\n* Experience building and deploying AWS-based environments\n* Fluent English speaker (with above-average writing skills)\n* Driven to create structured and well-tested code\n* Self motivated and able to manage your own workload\n\n**Nice To Haves:**\n\n* Experience working in partially- or fully-remote teams\n* Experience with Angular, React or Backbone\n* Experience with iOS and/or Android development\n* Interest in or experience in UX, UI and product development\n\n**The Benefits:**\n\n* Work from wherever you want (fully remote role)\*\n* Monthly remote working budget (e.g. coworking space rent)\n* Yearly skills development budget (e.g. courses or books)\n* MacbookPro and accessories you need to do your job\n* £45k - £75k\*\* per year depending on your skill set and experience\n* Private pension contributions (subject to UK residency)\n* Flexible holiday allowance and personal days as required\n\n\* You may need to adjust your working schedule to have a minimum of 2-4 hours overlap with other team members.\n\n\*\* Or negotiated equivalent contractor rate if you do not have/are not able to get a UK NI number.\n\n**The Process:**\n\n1. Please tell us about your experience and why you’re interested.\n1. Initial call with the CEO to learn more about each other\n1. Second call with the CTO to learn more about each other\n1. Short pair-programming session to see how you work in action\n1. If it's a good fit, we’ll make you an official offer in writing\n1. If you accept, we’ll meet up in person for on-boarding\*\*\*\n\n\*\*\* Either we’ll fly to you, you fly to us or we meet somewhere in between. Of course reasonable travel expenses would be covered. \n\n# Requirements\nPlease write to us at [email protected] and ensure you tell us about your experience, linking to anything relevant we should look at and why you would be interested in join us.

This job post is closed and the position is probably filled. Please do not apply.
Helpjuice is a SaaS product with large Enterprise customers such as Hertz, US Government, Nginx and others. We help many companies with their help center / knowledge base via our product: Helpjuice.com\nWe're a smaller, yet growing software company, where everyone wears multiple hats. It's a team of excellent people, who are all willing to help each other, because it's the way we work / our culture.\nWe're currently seeking a Senior Rails developer, with great English, and even better Rails skills. You should be really good with English -- almost excellent! :-)\nHere's what we're looking for:\n- Great English. Seriously, don't waste your time if your English isn't good enough to write/read/talk with it daily, with all of our team.\n- Really good in Rails (backend) + Javascript (Frontend). Rails alone won't get you much, and you know that -- thats why you need JS to build high performance fast web apps in 2018..\n- Cool person. We'll be working a lot together, we want you to enjoy it, just like we do!\nHere's what we offer:\n- Well paid salary. We don't monkey around, we pay well if we think you're great.\n- Smart team. Expect to learn...a LOT. Not just in development, but in other areas aswell, as you'll be working w/ other team mates (support, sales, product management)\n- Interesting product to work on. Imagine a product that thousands of businesses rely on, and that's entirely bootstrapped -- Yes, you'll for sure learn a lot, and have fun...and be a bit stressed at times :-)\n- Flexible hours/management. I'm the CEO - and I'm writing this job post. I'm very hands off with my team, because we have a great team -- everyone is great, which is why I can just rely on them to do their job and NOT micromanage. TLDR; It's a fun work environment :-)\nHow To Apply?\nFill out ALL the questions in our application form -- if you don't want to share code samples, we totally get it, but we believe no good developer has 0 public repos on their Github (you may argue with us, but this is our policy).

\nConnexity is looking for a Rails Developer responsible for important functional enhancements to our UI.  Used by outside customers, our internal business team, and our developer team, the UI is our fastest and cleanest view into highly complex, multidimensional data.  As a core member of our UI team, you will be the cornerstone of making our rich data accessible and visible, and by doing so will provide other groups in the company with the insights necessary to grow revenue.  With close to 200,000 streamed transactions per second and database tables with over a billion rows, we need a creative problem solver to provide windows of insight into our data.\n \n We are not a LAMP stack shop, but rather a NoSQL, Big Data, Real-Time stream processing shop. Our architecture is unique and our software stack purposefully diverse. We are searching for an engineer that likes a challenge, wants an opportunity to work with cutting edge technologies, and thrives in small teams. We are looking for a developer that wants to 'own' key aspects of the client interface and take pride in its evolution. Your contributions will be immediate and will be felt through out the company. Connexity is fun, fast-paced, and open-ended with a strong entrepreneurial spirit and with emphasis on being innovative. We provide ample opportunity for our engineers to grow their skill set beyond web development, offering a chance to design around several NoSQL platforms including Hadoop.
