But do it with respect.\n\n\n\n\nRequirements:\n\n\n* 5+ years of experience as a QA/SDET\n\n* Passionate about delivering a quality product\n\n* Strong experience implementing e2e automation test frameworks in a CI/CD environment (Selenium, Cypress, etc)\n\n* Experience creating and managing test plans / test cases\n\n* Solid understanding of at least one Cloud Provider (AWS, GCP, Azure)\n\n* Experience in at least one programming language such as JavaScript, Python, Go, Java, or C++.\n\n* Working knowledge of Git\n\n* Comfortable with Linux and CLI tools\n\n\n\n\nNice to haves:\n\n\n* Experience testing/deploying microservices (extra points if it was on AWS)\n\n* Automation with mobile devices\n\n* Docker / AWS Fargate\n\n\n\n\nAbout our tech:\n\nMost of our stack is currently written in JavaScript(Node.js/React) however we are always open to using the right tool for the job as we build out new features. We use both MySQL and DynamoDB for databases.\n\nWhile VideoPeel is based in Lehi, Utah, everyone is remote right now. We have employees in many parts of the world. \nSenior QA/Automation Engineer \n\n\nAbout Global Fishing Watch\n\nGlobal Fishing Watch (GFW) is an independent, international non-profit organization that advances the sustainability and stewardship of the ocean by offering, for free, data and near real-time tracking of commercial fishing activity. We also support new science and research and we engage with governments, management organizations, and NGOs to advance the global dialogue on ocean transparency. \n\n\n\nGFW processes a global database of vessel GPS positions, several terabytes in size, and applies machine learning models that infer each vessel’s type and size as well as when they are likely fishing. GFW is now developing new models, both on these GPS positions and on satellite imagery, to fully reveal activity in the world's oceans. These models include object detection from global feeds of satellite radar and optical imagery, and models that infer, based on vessel behavior, illegal activity, and unreported catch. We believe that these new models have the potential to dramatically change the way we monitor and manage the world’s oceans.\n\n\nGFW's goal is to offer all datasets for free and develop tools to help users navigate those datasets, through a variety of products featuring high impact visuals and intuitive user interfaces.\n\n\nWho we are looking for\n\nGlobal Fishing Watch is seeking to add a QA automation engineer to enable us to boost the production, improvement and maintenance of all of our products both front-end and back-end. In past years, after the first version of the Global Fishing Watch map, the engineering team has worked on improving the base infrastructure, data processing, and ways of delivering the data through APIs to the world; Our front-end product portfolio has increased from 1 to 5 making every time more challenging to assess quality. \n\nWe are looking for a talented QA person that likes challenges and enjoys delivering products that have quality and are useful for the users. Our products try to give users the ability to explore and analyze Global Fishing Watch underlying data in an easy and responsive way using non-regular data visualization methods. We are looking for someone that has passion for automating, enthusiastic, autonomous, and creative. We are looking for someone that can improve the efficiency of the development progress and robustness of our products by detecting issues as quickly as possible. \n\nThe role includes working closely with the product team that is responsible for creating the users stories that the engineering team will be implementing and with the engineering team that implements both the front-end products and the backend products. \n\nWhat you will be working on\n\nYou will get to work on projects that provide innovative ways of exploring GFW datasets :\n\n\n* Interactive maps showing vessel tracks, fishing activity heatmaps, encounters in high seas, etc., through time;\n\n* Dashboards used to analyze vessel activity and identify illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing and related activities;\n\n* Tools for users to display and analyze their own datasets alongside GFW’s datasets;\n\n* Interactive articles (i.e. “storytelling”) and other pieces to highlight our research team’s work (papers);\n\n* APIs all of our front-end products already use some of our APIs but we are expanding to have our APIs publicly available. \n\n\n\n\nDuring the first year, the main focus will be set on the quality of our front-end products, specifically on the upcoming new version of our map that renders fishing effort and also allows the visualization of other of our geo-temporal datasets. \n\nOur stack\n\n\n* Modern Javascript/EcmaScript (ES6+) and Typescript;\n\n* Frameworks: React (the one with hooks) and Redux;\n\n* Mapping and dataviz libraries: Mapbox GL, react-map-gl, D3, deck.gl, turf;\n\n* CSS 3, CSS modules;\n\n* Testing: Jest;\n\n* Tooling: CRA, Webpack, Babel, Typescript, eslint, Yarn;\n\n* Backend: Node, Go, PosgreSQL;\n\n* Infra: Google Cloud Services;\n\n* Design: Sketch, Invision;\n\n* Git, Github.\n\n\n\n\nYour responsibilities\n\n\n* Find ways of automating tests of the different GFW products with a focus on performance, responsiveness, and cross-browser testing, as our users are diverse and operate on a diverse set of equipment and connectivity;\n\n* Work closely with the product team in the definition of the user stories;\n\n* Design and write test cases for our user stories to ensure they meet the acceptance criteria and validate them with the product team;\n\n* Create the test suites for our products that will enable us to run only the necessary tests on different scenarios. It will also be your responsibility to decide which test cases are going to be automated or not, define the smoke tests suite and organize them in a convenient manner in our test suites;\n\n* Implement the designed automated tests for the different products. \n\n* Run regressions when new features are released to production or new versions of the underlying data are released;\n\n* Work jointly with the team to integrate automated tests into the CD process when possible;\n\n* Advance our overall QA testing strategy, infrastructure, and tools;\n\n* Estimate, prioritize, plan and coordinate quality testing activities;\n\n* Define, record, and report on metrics designed to assess QA testing impact and point to areas of weakness;\n\n* Run regressions on production environments in a periodic way;\n\n* Report found bugs in our issue tracking system and follow up the status until it is fixed.\n\n\n\n\nYour skills Required technical skills:\n\n\n* Experience with quality assurance practices and testing methodologies;\n\n* Experience with test plan and test case development and execution;\n\n* Experience with developing, executing, and maintaining automated test scripts;\n\n* Experience testing on different devices and OSs;\n\n* Experience testing non-traditional CRUD applications that use different kinds of data visualizations;\n\n* Experience testing APIs.\n\n* Experience testing Progressive Web Applications;\n\n* Experience doing performance testing;\n\n* Substantial experience with QA automation frameworks like Selenium;\n\n* Great attention to detail without compromising quality;\n\n* Having the mindset to try and ‘break’ things;\n\n* Comfortable with Git and knowledge of different branching strategies for development;\n\n\n\n\nHelpful Skills, but can be learned on the job:\n\n\n* CI/CD environments;\n\n* Open-source collaboration experience;\n\n* Experience working with Docker;\n\n* Experience working with cloud platforms like Amazon, Azure or Google Cloud Platform;\n\n* Experience testing applications with map interaction and other types of data visualization.\n\n\n\n\nRequired Team and Communication Skills:\n\n\n* Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with designers, developers, product managers, and other relevant staff members or clients;\n\n* Team player, willing to work with, teach and learn from the GFW team;\n\n* Proactive mindset – enjoys and exhibits a high degree of ownership of tasks and projects;\n\n* Comfortable working in a small but fast-growing organization;\n\n* Experience working in Agile teams is preferable;\n\n* High proficiency in English;\n\n* Excellent communication skills – in person, phone, and, most important, written;\n\n* Comfortable communicating with a wide range of individuals, including peers, juniors, and senior-level people;\n\n* Intellectually curious, forward-thinking, willing to suggest/try new technologies and creative approaches to problems;\n\n* Flexibility to adapt to changing instructions and requirements;\n\n* Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines;\n\n* Experience working remotely.\n\n\n\n\nLocation: GFW has a distributed workforce, with employees all over the world. Periodic domestic and international travel will be required to meet with team members and for workshops and typically annual all-hands meetings.\n\nEqual Opportunities: Global Fishing Watch is an equal opportunities employer. Do you love testing code and software products? Do you have a knack for breaking things and finding weird bugs and behaviors? Do you naturally think about how code should work in edge cases and “what if” scenarios? Do you believe that quality is just as important as the code itself?\n\nIf you answered yes to these questions, we are sure this position will sound super exciting to you. 🤩\n\nWe are looking for a friendly person in love with quality, performance, and testing to **join our QA Engineering team**. 🚀\n\nKeep reading for more details! 📝\n\n# Become Our New QA Engineer!\nIn your job as a QA Engineer, your primary focus will be **ensuring our products (software, systems, UI, and UX) works and performs as expected and needed, as well as it meets our quality, product, and performance standards and best practices**.\n\n**WP Media** is the French company behind successful WordPress plugins like WP Rocket and Imagify. WP Rocket is the premium **caching plugin for WordPress** used by +1,000,000 websites and +120,000 customers worldwide. Our plugin makes sites go at the speed of light in just a few clicks. We are so curious to know which new country will be added to our distributed team map! 🌍\n\n# What You Will Be Doing:\nHere is a list describing the tasks involved in this position (*do you happen to like making lists? So do we!*):\n\n* Acquire and maintain an excellent technical understanding of our products including WP Rocket, Imagify, and RocketCDN\n* Validate the quality, performance, impact, and outcome of fixes, features, optimizations, and enhancements\n* Design test plans (how we validate code)\n* Design testing scenarios and test cases (under what environments/stacks and normal and abnormal conditions)\n* Design testing data (the data that runs in the automated testing suites)\n* Audit and code review the automated tests to ensure they provide full coverage per test plan and scenarios\n* Monitor and analyze test results and report discrepancies to the engineering teams\n* Collaborate with the engineers on corrective actions\n* Collaborate with DevOps in the process of building testing containers for the many environments our products run in (different servers, settings, tools, plugins, themes, etc.)\n\nQA is young. Currently, our QA team focuses on manual testing, but do handle pushing and setting code and testing environments. In time, we will grow our QA capabilities to include more automated testing such as e2e, stress, and performance automated tests. In this role, you will help to shape our QA processes, operations, and capabilities.\n\nDuring this journey, you will get **cross-training and growth opportunities** by working with your engineering, product, and support team members while growing your skills.\n\n# What Do You Need To Excel at This Job:\n**Being Yourself.**\n\nThe WP Media team is diverse and composed of people from all over the world. **Respect**, **collaboration**, and **inclusivity** are some of our core values (*more on this below*). Solving problems and building solutions that help people are the values that make your work special and rewarding.\n\n**Consider how your work impacts others.**\n\nYou value customers. You consider how the code we build impacts them. You value developers and how hard it is to code bug-free solutions. You value personal growth and constructive feedback. People feel good around you because you love sharing what you know while continuously improving yourself, remaining thoughtful and flexible in your approach.\n\n**Proven QA testing experience.**\n\nYou are an experienced QA Engineer. You know how to validate that code works. You know how to identify “what if” scenarios. You know how to plan out a testing approach to validate a feature or bug fix.\n\n**Finding bugs and debugging are your superpowers.**\n\nYou have a knack for finding bugs. You can interact with the interfaces in ways that developers haven’t thought of, but users will. You have strong troubleshooting/debugging skills. You know that software isn’t perfect. You know there are hidden weird, wonky behaviors and bugs that can happen in the right unexpected set of scenarios. You really enjoy creating those conditions to find each one.\n\n**Love quality and continuous improvement.**\n\nQuality and continuous improvement drive you. You know that quality means the code not only works, but works as expected in many different environments and conditions. You insist on code being reliable, complete, robust, and stable. You are a collaborator, working with your teammates to continuously improve our practices, processes, code, tools, and pipelines.\n\n#### Do you want to know a few other things we appreciate about our candidates? Don’t worry if you don’t have experience in any of these areas. We’ll teach you.\n\n* **Know WordPress.**\nOur products are built on top of and used within WordPress. We’ll show you how to leverage its APIs and helper functionality.\n\n* **Automated testing.**\nYou have experience with automated testing, i.e. e2e, stress, and performance acceptance testing. You value how granular tests prove that your code works as expected even in unexpected conditions. Never built tests before? We’ll teach you.\n\n* **Automated code validation.**\nYou think code should comply with quality standards and best practices. You value automated code validation to do pre-code reviews while reducing our manual code review process. Don’t worry if you haven’t used PHPCS before. Why? It’s built into our development pipeline. We’ll teach you.\n\n* **Previous freelance or remote job experience.**\nSlack will be your virtual office, where all the life of the company takes place.\n\n* **Know the web performance.**\nYou have experience with web performance optimization. You know how to measure page load speeds. You understand caching. Terms like gzip, preload, minify, and lazyload are not foreign to you. You know the difference between PageSpeed score and page load time. If you don’t know, we’ll teach you.\n\n* **Love for cats or Corgis!** 😸🐶\nWhat would our working days be without our four-legged friends?\n\n# What Else You Should Know About Our Company: WP Media\nFounded in 2014 in the beautiful Lyon, France, [WP Media](http://wp-media.me/) is an equal opportunity employer with a distributed team of +35 teammates living around the world.\n\n![](https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/dCw_iuI2e-egWuXv1GN3y0qYTsEfgCSHIpuMNUXu5aO8C7w19nq4_wZXCNo9aAIMYPYiLeIeIHgZUzF9EwZeGFWNKn9WrTUR384r32GZP3TReiR4IRoM-8tiR5Nrido3VNhQRgRy)\n\n# Do We Share the Same Values?\n**Mutual respect**, **collaboration**, and **inclusivity**.\n\nThese are the fundamental values that support our life as a team.\n\n**Healthy balance between work and private life.**\n\nWe encourage our employees to enjoy their family and their hobbies with flexible working hours and minimum vacation policy (you should take a *minimum* of 5 weeks per year: really, we don’t count them!).\n\n![](https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/nsGMT7X35n4n-ZjLV9p5tX-INQBWGBf-rf-35is9TAbkxCv8OE6rPHK7URgKKtUpo-98hJAOw3oYtvBOynkzQCZWC6lreTw5wNnQVTTyjfMo_VzzgdrpfuMNfJTSgdSsRz1prFq1)\n\n**We care about the work you do, not about the hours you sit at your desk.**\n\nYou can organize your working day with flexible working hours. \nThe job\n\nOur current solution is built on a React Native app for iOS and Android, and a React.js web front-end with game components developed in Unity. Our backend is based on Python, Elixir, Redis, PostgreSQL, and deployed with Docker, Chef and ECS on AWS. Our integration tests are written in Cypress and Appium.\n\nOur tech department consists of nine developers (or at least it will after you have been hired), and is split between two four-person teams: the Live Experience team, and the Activation and Subscriptions team. You will be part of the Live Experience team, together with our experienced and dedicated full-stack and front-end developers. The team is responsible for creating a fun, interactive and engaging livestream experience that will keep our users coming back for more, with features like games and 3D races, live leaderboards, and seamless two-way interactions between instructor and user. \n\nDue to the interactive and dynamic nature of our livestreams, the job will involve a number of unique challenges. The data we present literally changes second to second, and transitions and animations are a core part of the experience. The user will often be interacting with our product through both our web app (and in the future, Apple TV and smart tv apps) and our mobile app. This mix of live data and multiple interacting components presents some unique challenges for test automation. We hope you’re up for the challenge!\n\nThe team also manages the build processes for a number of important components, including our mobile apps and some backend stuff, so we hope you will help to take an active role in maintaining and improving these integral parts of our infrastructure\n\nWho you are\n\nYou are an experienced QA engineer with a passion for delivering quality software and an intimate knowledge of the techniques and practices surrounding test automation. Your addition to the team will be essential for ensuring that our customers get a superb experience with our product, every time. \n\nMaintaining our manual tests will be part of your job, so it is important that you are skilled and well-versed in test automation for both mobile and web. Experience with writing tests in JS using the Appium and Cypress frameworks is a big plus. We also maintain a battery of pure backend integration tests written in python, and while these tests are not the biggest test automation challenge in this job, it would be awesome if you were comfortable helping to maintain these tests, too.\n\nYou’ll also be up to the challenge of maintaining our build pipelines. For our web apps, that involves tweaking AWS Amplify config files and writing bash scripts, on top of the actual integration testing. For our mobile apps, the builds run on CircleCI, and you will need to be familiar with both Gradle, for android, and Fastlane for the iOS app build.

\nWhat we do\n\nPractichem, a Raleigh-based biotech firm focused on speeding antiviral cures to market, uses a patented protein chromatography instrumentation platform to deliver time and cost savings in the race to deliver critical viral health solutions worldwide. \n\nChromatography instrument technology lags well behind consumer tech. Many current scientific instruments are controlled by 1993-era software. When compared to current technology, chromatography instruments do not store and share data well. Studies reveal scientists spending the majority of their applied time extracting, converting, and loading data as part of their workflow. This is not a research science problem, or a chromatographic problem. This requires a software technology solution.\n\nPractichem believes scientific instrument software should be as intuitive to use as a smart phone app. We’re setting a new standard for the laboratory by creating browser based software that runs our scientific instruments. Help us drive innovation to the laboratory for greater discovery and collaboration.\n\nWho we are\n\nPractichem is a different kind of company and we like it that way. We have incredibly high standards and hire exceptional people who enjoy pushing themselves to perform at their highest levels every day. Join our team and enjoy an environment that appreciates hard work and achievements. \n\nWhat we expect\n\nYou appreciate a start-up environment free from bureaucracy. You thrive on open discussion. You have incredibly high standards for documentation and testing procedures. Organization and consistency are standard operating procedures for you.\n\nThis must excite you. You must be curious and practical. You will be expected to challenge and be challenged, to create and innovate. Practichem's work style is not for everyone. \n\nWhat you will do\n\n\n* Manage software testing and strategy.\n\n* Update tests to reflect the latest user stories.\n\n* Devise client and server system tests.\n\n* Write automated integration tests, maintain and update existing tests.\n\n* Participate in design discussions.\n\n* Test software and hardware on web applications and instrumentation.\n\n* Clearly and consistently document issues, bugs, and testing procedures.\n\n* Prepare and present technical information to departmental, cross-departmental, and executive groups.\n\n* Provide subject matter expertise and reach out for help when needed.\n\n* Juggle fast changing priorities, be process minded, and detail driven.\n\n\n\n\nPreferred experience and skills\n\n\n* Bachelor's  degree plus at least 5 years relevant experience or demonstrated technical competencies plus at least 5 years relevant experience.\n\n* Javascript\n\n* Jenkins, Selenium, or Cucumber\n\n* JIRA or similar tracking system\n\n* Effective verbal and written communication skills.\n\n* Strong problem solving and analytical skills.\n\n* Understand and analyze complex issues.\n\n* Work with minimal supervision and document daily goals.\n\n* Have strong organizational skills.\n\n* Experience in scientific instrumentation.\n\n* Experience with databases.\n\n* Start-up environment experience.\n\n\n\n\nWhat we offer\n\n\n* Competitive compensation and benefits. We work reasonable hours and rarely get called on nights, weekends, or holidays.\n\n* We support remote work.\n\n* You'll work alongside other accomplished engineers and scientists.\n\n* Choose a Mac or a PC. You can run Windows or a Linux distro.\n\n* Join Practichem and get $500 in cozy cash to set your workspace how you want. Buy a super mouse, a wrist thingy, a special chair, plant, mood ring, or maybe a Maneki-neko?\n\n\n\n\nFun\n\nMake sure you’re having fun at work -- meet new friends, push yourself in new ways, try new things. If you aren’t having fun at some level, you’ll be unhappy. We don’t want that. We want you to work hard, love what you do, and have fun.

This developer will work on our functional E2E testing suite as well as performance engineering tasks.\n\nThis is an exciting opportunity for a candidate who wants to grow with an established startup company!\n\nAbout ProKeep\n\nProKeep is a software company that has developed a messaging platform for the $100+ billion wholesale distribution market (i.e. plumbing, electrical, HVAC, etc). We are post product, post revenue and growing fast in the US and Canada. Our team is small, nimble, and devoted to making our customers lives easier with simple to use technology. We envision a world where distributors using our tools are more efficient and able to build stronger relationships with their customers.\n\nResponsibilities\n\nWe are looking for a dedicated QA/Functional testing engineer who is excited to make significant contribution to our application reliability, performance, and defect management process. You should have strong opinions about tools and architecture, but should also be able to explain those opinions persuasively, not abrasively. You should also take pride in writing performant, logically structured, and readable code, config, and documentation, but be pragmatic enough to realize that sometimes shipped code is better than perfect code. Some training will be provided.\n\nRequirements\n\n\n* 3+ years experience working as a QA Engineer\n\n* E2E functional testing\n\n* Elixir/wallaby (ruby/capybara and node/chai/mocha for exceptional candidates)\n\n* Headless chrome/phantom\n\n* Javascript\n\n* qa test management SaaS (qtest, zephyr, etc most likely integrated with jira)\n\n* Running automated tests in CI/CD environment (gitlab)\n\n* Configuration management\n\n* Working in a geographically distributed team.\n\n* Desire to collaborate with other developers and ability to communicate over various channels (email, phone, Slack, Google Hangouts, etc.)\n\n\n\n\nIdeal Skills and Experience\n\n\n* Performance tests with jmeter\n\n* Postgres/RDS capacity and performance improvements.\n\n* Docker/ECS\n\n\n\n\nWorking Relationship\n\nThis is a full-time salaried position starting immediately. At this time we can only hire US based full-time employees and cannot consider consultants or contractors. This is a remote work opportunity, but you should be able to work core hours in U.S. pacific time.\n\nNext Steps\n\nIf interested, please email [email protected] to introduce yourself and start the process.
