Specto is hiring a Remote Android Performance Engineer

At Specto we're building the next-generation platform for ***application performance monitoring*** and analysis in the age of mobile.\n\nMore and more users access essential services (banking, transportation, healthcare) through mobile devices. With the increased competition in the space it became apparent that just having a “working” app is not enough. The app has to offer a fast and smooth user experience, otherwise companies are losing users and consequently, it affects their revenue. Existing performance management tools were built with a focus on server performance and as such lack the functionality needed to efficiently monitor, analyze and debug modern mobile apps. We're addressing that by building a mobile-first application performance monitoring service which will help power the next generation of smooth mobile experiences.\n\nWe are a remote team (and always have been) distributed across North America and Europe. ***We will remain fully remote in the post-covid era.***\n\n### Responsibilities\n\n- Develop world-class mobile performance telemetry infrastructure\n- Own Android performance metrics end-to-end\n- Work on automating the collection and analysis of performance data\n- Analyze and optimize mobile infrastructure code\n- Work with our most important customers to help them get the most out of Specto\n\n### Minimum qualifications\n\n- Experience with Java and/or Kotlin\n- Familiarity with debugging and profiling Android apps\n\n### Preferred qualifications\n\n- Familiarity with the Android/Linux kernel\n- Experience with the ART and Dalvik runtimes\n- Experience with performance profiling of large-scale apps\n- Experience with modern C++\n- Experience building SDKs for constrained environments \n\n#Salary and compensation\n$160,000 — $180,000/year\n\n\n#Location\n🌏 Worldwide

**Radical candor? More like radical gander, right?**\nOk, enough goose puns for the moment, but now that we’ve got your attention, allow us to tell you more about this company called GooseChase and why might you want to join us!\nYou love an app that makes you smile, right? Well our product is a lot of fun. And even though our origins are that of a humble scavenger hunt app, we’ve now evolved (hatched?) into a super-flexible platform used by millions to create all sorts of experiences! It’s all the best parts of a scavenger hunt, with a delightful twist to keep you coming back for more.\nWith all that fun and flexibility, we’ve been growing like crazy. For teachers in the classroom, we’re the new “TV cart”, aka the learning tool that students legitimately look forward to. For today’s workplaces, virtual or otherwise, we help the team connect with each other to the point where they want to come into (or logon) to work. And for local cities and towns, we bring families together in a way that truly builds a sense of community.\nBut we’re also unique in that we don’t have any investors and, as a result, are able to put our people before profit. Seriously. We have a profit sharing program specifically for this reason! It also means we grow at the pace we want to and put the time into making this the best possible place to work. When we do something, it’s because it’s the best thing for our team and our customers, no matter what. We’ve actually been fully remote from the very beginning, because we wanted our people to have the flexibility to live wherever and however they wanted!\n**So what exactly is this job?**\nIf you’re looking for impact & ownership, this is about as good as it gets. You’ll have the opportunity to take the lead on our Android platform going forward, charting our technical path, contributing to our product direction and helping shape the team as we grow!\nFrom a day to day perspective, you’ll be a core member of our cross-functional product development team primarily focused on the participant experience. Within our product team, there are no silos or artificial barriers, meaning you’ll be working closely with other engineers and designers! Whatever will help give our customers the best experience possible!\nWe recognize building the best products requires using the best tools, so we empower our engineers through access to the best tools and hardware available to remove barriers and enable fast iterating, robust code deployments.\nIn terms of technologies, you’ll be working on our native Android application, which:\n* Is a blend of Java and Kotlin, with new code being written exclusively in Kotlin.\n* Currently has an MVC architecture, with migration plans to MVVM in the near future.\n* Stores data in Realm, with images & videos in S3.\n* Interacts with our Django back-end via a REST api.\nLooking at how we work, our methodologies are:\n* Continuous integration using CircleCI to empower developer autonomy and shorten development cycles.\n* Agile, with two week sprint cycles.\n* Daily async check-ins - stay connected to the team, but without zombie standups.\n* Project management in Asana, with our “office” taking place on Slack & Zoom - we have a very strong gif game.\n**How do you know if this might be for you?**\nAt GooseChase you’ll be working alongside a team of highly motivated, world-class engineers with tons of opportunities for learning, growth, and mentorship. Our product team works closely together, so we are extremely selective about who we hire to ensure the calibre of our engineering talent remains high. Be prepared to bring your ‘A’ game!\nWe understand that relevant experience comes in all shapes and sizes and the ability to do the job is all that matters. With that in mind, we aren’t going to put together a generic list of all the requirements that we’re looking for with this job, however, there are certain things we are looking for - specifically:\n* Have you succeeded at owning the development and making architectural decisions for at least one Android app used by lots of people? Put another way, are you an Android expert that is excited by the opportunity to own our codebase going forward?\n* Have you been able to collaborate & communicate successfully with others in a cross-functional team?\n* Do you have very high standards for your work and desire to work with other talented people?\n* Do you really care about the Android ecosystem and want to make the apps built for it the best they can possibly be?\n* Do you know enough about iOS to collaborate with Attila, our dedicated iOS engineer?\n* Are you based in the GMT to GMT+2 time zones, so you can work closely with our distributed product team?\n* Can you get down with an uncomfortable amount of goose puns?\nOk the last one isn’t super work related, but we honestly do have a lot of goose puns. It’s one of our favourite parts of our culture!\nWe do things differently here. We’re all about fun, but also making an impact. We care deeply about working with amazing people, and have set up our company culture specifically for that - our compensation is competitive, our work environment is autonomous and collaborative, and our emphasis is on learning and growth. Put simply, it’s the type of company we actually want to work at ourselves!\nSo, this is us, standing in front of you, asking you to join us. \n\n#Location\n🇪🇺 EU-only

ABOUT KIKO\n\nThe world of real estate is broken - landlords, renters, and agents have to live in a system that is boring, inefficient, and expensive. \n\nKiko builds real estate tools and housing infrastructure for the internet. We’re helping small landlords and the world’s biggest companies to rent out their properties in a few minutes online anytime, from anywhere.\n\nWe are for the rebels, the supportive, the impatient, and most of all, the obsessively user-focused. A culture built for builders and doers - people with unrelentingly high standards who inspire others to do more and go further.\n\nWe're never satisfied with the status quo and unapologetically driven by pushing the boundaries of the possible. We move incredibly fast while never compromising on our extremely high-quality standards. At Kiko, it’s about what you do, not what you’re called. We want you to take what you’ve been hired to do, and deliver solutions better than we've ever imagined.\n\nKiko was founded by Val and Tony, who met while expanding Revolut to millions of people. We're one of the fastest-growing Proptech companies in Europe and our team has previously worked at some of the best technology startups (Revolut, Blockchain.com, Yandex, and Kaspersky). Kiko is backed by Seedcamp and some of the finest investors in the European tech scene.\n\n\nABOUT THE ROLE\n\nWe're looking for a Senior Backend Developer to drive the development of our platform. You'll have the unique opportunity to work very closely with two world-class founders that previously have helped companies such as Revolut and Blockchain to acquire millions of users and build products that process millions of transactions every day.\n\nWe’re looking to hire some of the most talented developers that the world of tech has to offer, and we’re keen to showcase their talent to the world - and that’s where you come in. \n\n\nWHAT YOU'LL BE DOING\n\n* Work closely with the CEO and CTO to define and implement elegant solutions to interesting problems\n* Be involved in the user experience design process, from wireframes and mockups through implementation and release\n* We have a minimalist approach and avoid using big frameworks, with emphasis on maintainability and fast turnaround with TDD, DDD, and Continuous Integration & Delivery\n* The work will focus on greenfield development to deliver a robust and scalable platform\n* Projects will include building REST APIs and integration of external services to build product features\n* Our technology stack is based on Kotlin, Postgres, and Redis. Hosted on GCP in Kubernetes\n* Join as 6th teammate, the current team includes: CEO, CTO, FE developer, BE developer, Head of Ops\n\nWHAT YOU’LL NEED\n\n* Deep understanding of the Java or Kotlin\n* 3 years (or above) experience in back-end development\n* Bachelors Degree (or above) in Computer Science/Maths/Physics/similar\n* Experience collaborating on software projects with design and frontend aspects\n* Quick learner with an ambitious and results-driven personality\n* Excellent communication and organizational skills\n* Works well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment\n* English required\n\nWHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR\n\n* You can work autonomously and take ownership.\n* You thrive in solving complex problems with elegant solutions \n* You operate best without lots of bureaucracy. We don’t hide behind fancy job titles or clunky processes ‘because that’s how things are done’.\n* You approach work in a logical way. We are not afraid to make mistakes but we use data and logic to back up decisions and improve our understanding.\n* And you share our mission to improve the way we rent properties\n* Bachelors Degree (or above) in Computer Science/Maths/Physics/similar\n\nTHE OFFER\n\n* Competitive salary\n* Employee stock options\n* Fully remote team with offices in London and Moscow\n* Flexible schedules\n* MacBook Pro \n\n#Salary and compensation\n$60,000 — $80,000/year\n\n\n#Location\n🇪🇺 EU-only
