HopSkipDrive is hiring a
Remote Rails Engineer III

\nWho you are\n\nYou are looking for a challenging and rewarding experience. You are inspired by our vision and the opportunity to define a new category in an incredibly fast-growing market. You are excited to learn, grow and collaborate so we can achieve our mission of creating opportunity for all through mobility.\n\nAt HopSkipDrive, we know that challenges require different approaches, unique perspectives and new ways of thinking.  We are building a team of creative problem-solvers from many different backgrounds.\n\nYour role:\n\nA Rails Engineer III will enter this level capable of taking well-defined tasks and completing them in a way that is considered by the team to be high-quality with supervision from more senior team members. The progress through this level is focused on taking tasks of increasing complexity, scope and importance and completing them with very high quality with a lessening need for manager/tech lead oversight.\n\nThis level is the bread-and-butter level of engineering growth. Engineers at this level should be focused on becoming great engineers, learning how to set high quality bars for their work without sacrificing productivity. All engineers at and above this level should religiously follow stated best practices for the team without excessive hand holding. Engineers at this level will continue to make mistakes, but should be improving the speed at which they learn from these mistakes. By the time an engineer II is ready to be promoted they will have focused on some technology as their expertise and become capable of mentoring interns and new engineers in these areas. They will start to participate more in the technical design process, often with guidance from senior engineers.\n\nEngineers at this level are assumed to be constantly making steady progress on tasks that are assigned to them and know when to ask for help when they are blocked. They can own their independent small-to-medium features all the way through from technical design to launch. They are capable of prioritizing the work in front of them and able to make forward progress, avoiding the temptation to focus on unimportant details or excessive bikeshedding.\n\nThe impact at this level is focused on task completion and depth in a small area of the code base. Engineers at this level should be capable of taking responsibility for their code during releases as well as on-call support for simple incidents in areas that they are not always familiar with.\n\nThey communicate well and are capable of delivering feedback to peers and their manager. When given a task with unclear requirements they know how to ask for clarification, and ensure that all assumptions are vetted before work starts to reduce the need for re-work. They understand how their work fits into the larger picture for their team, and use this to identify conflicting requirements to their tech lead and product manager. An important focus of this level is developing empathy for the users of their software, whether they be internal employees, customers, or other developers on the team. A team member at this level is seeking out the context they need to understand the why of a particular feature and nurturing this empathy via that understanding.\n\nAbove all, they want to build something that fundamentally improves the lives of families.\n\nWhat you will do:\n\n\n* Communicate well with all members of the team\n\n* Perform well-defined engineering tasks; doesnโ€™t get caught up in the unknown, works to figure it out, asks questions\n\n* Alert manager/team to any issues preventing their work from being accomplished, asks for help\n\n* Actively pursue improving engineering skills, including but not limited to problem solving, writing readable/testable/efficient code, mastering technology in our stack, and learning to anticipate scaling issues.\n\n* Seek to tie stories back to user value and impact for our drivers and organizers\n\n* Contribute meaningfully to the definition of stories\n\n* Pick up any story and suggest a solution for completing it\n\n* Lean into challenges when they offer the potential to create large impact, and does so with productivity and positivity\n\n* Be able to dive in to an area of the code/product that youโ€™re not familiar with and make changes\n\n* Make sure your code is readable & easy to maintain\n\n* Make sure your code is tested appropriately\n\n* Review other engineersโ€™ code and provide constructive feedback\n\n* Monitor changes in production and rollback if necessary\n\n* Have production access and use it responsibly\n\n\n\n\nWhat you'll need:\n\n\n* 2+ years experience with Ruby on Rails\n\n* 3+ years of professional software engineering\n\n* Solid experience with PostgreSQL or MySQL\n\n* A thirst for knowledge and continuous learning\n\n* Experience working on a team in a professional setting\n\n* Demonstrated ability to collaborate well with a team\n\n* Demonstrated ability to learn from mistakes\n\n* Demonstrated ability to unblock themselves, asks for help where necessary\n\n* Demonstrated good communication skills with teammates and showed a good degree of emotional and professional maturity.\n\n* A connection to HopSkipDriveโ€™s mission and values\n\n\n\n\n** This role will be fully remote from a state where we do business AZ, CA, CO, FL, IL, KS, MD, WI, OK, UT, TN, NC, SC, NV, NM, NJ, NY, OR, TX, VA, WA, MO, MI**\n\nWhat you will get\n\nWe want you to be an owner in our company and share in executing our vision, so every full-time employee has equity. Yard Stick PBC is hiring a
Remote Senior Software Engineer Web Applications

\nAbout The Role\n\n\nYard Stick is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to help us combat climate change with soil. We use spectral imaging and machine learning to measure organic soil carbon, bringing down the cost of soil measurement and creating incentives for better soil management and carbon sequestration.\n\n\nWe are looking for someone who is excited to be part of our mission and part of our small team, working on a wide variety of projects both for our customers and our various internal teams. Most of our work is Python (for the data processing end of things) and Ruby (for the web front end), and weโ€™re looking for someone who is expert in at least one of those stacks (and willing to work in the other).\n\n\nThis role is on our software team, reporting directly to the VP of software, and would work in close coordination with our product teams (data science, hardware, soil science) and our sales, business development, and field teams. This is a full-time, remote position, and we are looking to hire as soon as possible.\n\n\nAbout Yard Stick PBC\n\n\nYard Stick is a remote-first climate tech startup with cofounders based in Boston, MA and Oakland, CA. We are on a mission to reverse climate change with agriculture. Scientists and farmers alike know that climate-friendly agricultural practices have the potential to remove atmospheric CO2 at gigaton/year scale. When these practices are adopted, more carbon is stored in soils, improving soil health and fighting climate change. But significant measurement challenges have held soil carbon efforts back - until now.\n\n\nBy reducing the cost of soil carbon measurement by 70-90%, Yard Stick will dramatically expand the opportunities for evidence-based regenerative practices to simultaneously improve ecosystem health, increase farmer income, and combat climate change. \n\n\nCurrent soil carbon measurement technologies are slow, expensive, and cumbersome, relying on conventional soil cores and labs to quantify carbon stocks. In contrast, Yard Stick is fast and cheap - without sacrificing accuracy. As a testament to our technologyโ€™s potential, alongside our scientific collaborators, we were awarded $18M across six USDA Climate-Smart Commodities projects, and we have additional grant financing from ARPA-E, NSF, CDFA, and other discerning grant-makers. Weโ€™ve also raised another nearly $18M from top climate VCs, including Toyota Climate Venture Fund, Lowercarbon Capital, Breakthrough Energy Ventures (Bill Gatesโ€™ climate fund), Microsoft Climate Innovation Fund, The Nature Conservancy, Extania, Pillar VC, MCJ Collectiveโ€ฆ the list goes on!\n\n\nFor more background, check out some coverage of Yard Stick in TechCrunch, Fast Company, and AgFunder.\n\n\nWe offer competitive salary and equity (benchmarked to 75th percentile of SF/NYC), health/dental/vision insurance, a 401k, and home-office reimbursements. We have a number of founders and other team members with young families and have a strong track record of creative, flexible approaches to hours and communication expectations which let folks feel great about their commitments both to Yard Stick and their lives outside of work. \n\n\nWeโ€™re also a PBC, or public benefit corporation, which is an alternative corporate structure which protects our ability to prioritize climate impact over profits if the two are in conflict. You can read more about PBCs in this article which also features Yard Stick.\n\n\n\nResponsibilities\n* Work with customers and our business development team to extend our customer portal and API\n* Improve our geospatial project management and planning tools, building sampling plans, visualizing GIS data, and developing new data services as needed\n* Develop and enhance internal tools for data review and quality control on collected and analyzed soil data\n* Develop and improve our data pipeline, machine learning tools, model management, and anything to help our data science team work more efficiently\n\n\n\nQualifications (Must Have)\n* 3+ years of relevant work experience\n* Expertise in web application development, either with a standard Ruby+Rails or Python environment, plus willingness to work in both stacks (since we use both)\n* Work experience producing professional, production quality software\n* Passion for climate impact\n\n\n\nQualifications (Nice To Have)\n* Experience with both of the Ruby and Python stacks mentioned above\n* Experience with data analysis using Jupyter notebooks or similar\n* Ability to design and implement great customer experiences\n* Experience with productionized data processing pipelines\n* Knowledge of GIS data, mapping, pathing, etc.\n* Familiarity with AWS\n* Experience processing data from hardware sensors\n\n\n(None of these are required, but if you have experience in these areas, please highlight it in your application!)\n\n\n$170,000 - $195,000 a yearCompensation and Other Details\nโ€ข Market salary and equity commensurate with expertise. Directionally, we expect an annual salary in the range of $170k to $195k. We benchmark to 75th percentile of โ€œTier 1โ€ city compensation (e.g. SF, NYC).โ€ข We offer health, dental, and vision insurance via Justworks, our benefits and payroll provider. We contribute 80% of base healthcare plan premiums (regardless of employee plan type (e.g. single vs. family) and 50% of a base dental plan, as well as offer additional contributions to HSAs for employees who select eligible high-deductible plans.โ€ข We provide unlimited PTO, unlimited sick leave, 6 weeks paid primary caregiver leave, and 4 weeks paid secondary caregiver leave (flexible as to format, eligibility includes surrogacy and adoptive contexts).โ€ข We offer to extend post-termination exercise periods to 10 years when you leave the company so you donโ€™t get screwed out of your options.โ€ข Weโ€™ll buy you a computer and provide a work-from-home reimbursement to use how you please.โ€ข Additional benefits include One Medical, Health Advocate, and Talkspace memberships and a company-sponsored 401k.โ€ข This role can be based anywhere in continental U.S. time zones. We have no specific working hours except to โ€œcollaborate excellentlyโ€ within teams - that typically requires overlapping with your teammates at least a few hours per day. (If resident in the U.S., then U.S. work authorization is required.)\n\nOur Commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion\n\n\nYard Stickโ€™s impact goals go well beyond climate science. Why? Our company operates primarily in the US agricultural sector, which is predicated on centuries of mass land theft and disenfranchisement of Native and Black people. This harm continues today. If weโ€™re going to work in this sector, we need to leave it better than we found it.\n\n\nConsistent with our core value of โ€œPursue Justice,โ€ we speak up about these issues, and we support emerging solutions and relevant policy efforts such as H.R.40 and S.300. We also publicly highlight the risk of further racial discrimination in emerging agricultural legislation like the Growing Climate Solutions Act.\n\n\nRegarding hiring and culture, we work to create a work environment where everyone feels confident sharing their ideas, problem-solving happens openly and collaboratively, and mistake-making is welcomed. We also standardize our interview process and questions to reduce โ€œlikeabilityโ€ bias, benchmark salaries against industry databases to reduce negotiation, and utilize tools like the Gender Decoder. Climate change is arguably the most complex challenge ever faced by humanity - we need all of humanity activated to fight back, and that motivates us to build a diverse team. \n\n#Salary and compensation\n No salary data published by company so we estimated salary based on similar jobs related to Design, Python, Payroll, Ruby, Microsoft, Senior and Engineer jobs that are similar:\n\n $60,000 — $115,000/year\n

Mutiny is hiring a
Remote Infrastructure Engineer

\nAbout Mutiny:\n\nMarketers have a problem. Today companies spend over $1T to bring customers to the door, but $19 of every $20 they spend does not convert to revenue. Companies have no choice other than to dedicate large engineering and data science teams to manually build more relevant, higher converting experiences for different customer segments.\n\nMutiny is a no-code AI platform that helps marketers convert their top of funnel demand into revenue, without engineers. Mutiny gives marketers everything they need to drive revenue and prove it โ€” from data and analytics to AI-powered recommendations and content writing. Our customers are some of the fastest growing companies in the B2B space including Notion, Ramp, Carta and Segment. We are backed by Sequoia Capital, YCombinator and CMOs from some of today's fastest-growing tech companies including AngelList, Carta, Gong, Hopin, Salesforce and Snowflake.\n\nAbout the Role:\n\nWe are looking for a software engineer who is passionate about DevOps (emphasis on the Dev) to join our engineering team. You will build, test, and ship software to manage, operate, and improve our high-throughput web application and data pipelines and associated cloud infrastructure. Work closely with our product teams to create the best system architecture for delivering key features that drive value for customers. Make key architectural decisions and set the direction for our infrastructure as we scale. Be a critical voice in choosing the right components for our core systems, help to define an inclusive engineering culture, and learn from a world-class team of experienced engineers.\n\nWhat youโ€™ll do:\n\n\n* Architect, build, test, and ship highly-available and secure services that process and serve data at scale. The team primarily writes in Ruby and Elixir.\n\n* Manage our AWS, Kafka, and Elasticsearch cloud infrastructure through code and automated systems, including terraform and Kubernetes\n\n* Use data to support architectural decisions and impact core business metrics with your work.\n\n* Build the operational framework for the monitoring, deployment, and maintenance of our web services and data pipelines.\n\n\n\n\nWhat you bring:\n\n\n* 5+ years of software engineering experience in a infrastructure position\n\n* Fluency in a backend programming language of choice (e.g. Elixir, Python, Ruby, Node, Scala, etc).\n\n* Proficiency managing cloud services such as AWS, Azure or Google Cloud\n\n* Experience as a Directly Responsible Individual, project leader, or system owner for an infrastructure component (e.g. build system, internal tool, Kubernetes, etc.)\n\n* Proficiency with a container management system such as ECS or Kubernetes\n\n* Ability to design the necessary infrastructure to support software system requirements\n\n* Familiarity with PostgreSQL or other relational database\n\n\n\n\nYou Are:\n\n\n* Comfortable working fully remote\n\n* An advocate of automated testing. We always include a full suite of tests for a feature to verify and future proof our code.\n\n* Someone who sets an exceptionally high performance bar for oneself and everyone on the team. You are unafraid to communicate whatโ€™s working and what needs to change.\n\n* Someone who is energized by ambiguity and can create structure in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.\n\n* A kind human who wants to build an extraordinary product, culture and brand.\n\n\n\n\nWhat youโ€™ll get out of it:\n\n\n* We are backed by Sequoia Capital, Y Combinator and CMOs from some of today's fastest-growing tech companies including AngelList, Carta, Gong, Hopin, Salesforce, and Snowflake. We are growing incredibly fast and about to hit another inflection point. The potential is unreal. Join and youโ€™ll see what we mean.\n\n* You will create a name for yourself by getting to work with and support some of the fastest growing companies in B2B SaaS.\n\n* You will get exposure to real business problems every company faces (growth) that you can take with you to start your own company (or to help scale another).\n\n* You will have fun, plain and simple. There is a reason our first company value is that work should feel like play.\n\n* You will experience a new way of working. Our team is fully distributed across North America and the EU. But we come together as a company for quarterly offsites (most recently in fun places like Seattle, Austin and Miami). This combination of experience-based work is a competitive advantage we lean into.\n\n\n\n\nThese values define how we approach our work every single day:\n\n\n* Work should feel like play\n\n* Faster always wins\n\n* Stir the post, regularly\n\n* Do the right thing when no oneโ€™s watching\n\n* All hands on deck\n\n* Live in the world you want to change.\n\n\n\n\nWe also believe in balanced teams, which is why we have maintained a 50% male to female ratio in our investors and are committed to maintaining diversity of gender, lifestyle, ethnicity and thinking in our team as we scale.\n\nWe are fully remote.
