\nProKeep is seeking a backend developer/cloud engineer for a messaging platform that is experiencing rapid growth in the construction industry. This developer will work on adding functionality to and scaling our API as well as enhancing our internal administrative application along with handling general devops/cloud engineering tasks.\n\nThis is an exciting opportunity for a candidate who wants to grow with an established startup company.\n\nAbout ProKeep\n\nProKeep is a software company that has developed a messaging platform for the $100+ billion wholesale distribution market (i.e. plumbing, electrical, HVAC, etc). We are post product, post revenue and growing fast in the US and Canada.\n\nOur team is small, nimble, and devoted to making our customers lives easier with simple to use technology. We envision a world where distributors using our tools are more efficient and able to build stronger relationships with their customers.\n\nRequirements\n\nWe are looking for an engineer who is excited to make significant contributions to our API and other backend systems. You will be primarily focused on systems and cloud engineering, but we are a small and highly collaborative team, so from time to time you may also take a diversion into enhancing our API or working on our internal administration app. You don’t have to be an expert with all the tools in our stack, but an interest in working on projects at all levels of the stack will be helpful as we expand the breadth of our platform. You should have strong opinions about tools and architecture, but should also be able to explain those opinions persuasively, not abrasively. You should also take pride in writing performant, logically structured, and readable code, but be pragmatic enough to realize that sometimes shipped code is better than perfect code.\n\nIdeal Skills and Experience\n\n\n* 5+ years experience working as a cloud engineer ot backend developer.\n\n* Experience with varied AWS services: ECS, CloudFront, SQS, S3, EC2\n\n* Experience with devops and CI/CD (ideally, GitLab CI).\n\n* Experience building web apps, single page apps, and GraphQL APIs a big plus.\n\n* Experience with Elixir/Erlang or strong desire to learn.\n\n* Ability to write performant SQL queries and tune as needed.\n\n* Experience writing automated tests and following coding standards.\n\n* Willingness to perform code reviews and refactor existing code.\n\n* Experience working in a geographically distributed team.\n\n* Desire to collaborate with other developers and ability to communicate over various channels (email, phone, Slack, Google Hangouts, etc.)\n\n\n\n\nWorking Relationship\n\nThis is a full-time salaried position starting immediately. You will work with the existing development team to build new features and fix bugs in our product.\nThis is a remote work opportunity, but you should be able to work core hours in U.S. pacific time.yagJzhkdapAsCMnUw7CpJAMi

\nAbout the job:\n\nWe are looking for two Senior Backend Engineers to develop and grow our crawling and extraction services. Our automated service is used directly by our customers via API, as well as by us for internal projects. Our extraction capabilities include automated product and article extraction from single pages or whole domains using machine learning and custom built components and we plan to expand it for jobs and news. The service is still in early stages of development, serving its first customers.\n\nAs a professional services company we are often required to build a custom crawling and extraction pipeline for a specific customer. That requires crawl and extraction planning with respect to customer needs, including crawling time estimation and HW allocation. The volume is often very high, and solutions have to be properly designed to provide the required performance, reliability and maintainability.\n\nOur platform has several components communicating via Apache Kafka and using HBase as a permanent storage. Most components are written in Python, while several crucial components are made using Scala and Kafka Streams. Currently, main priorities are improving reliability and scalability of the system, integration with other Scrapinghub services, implementation of auto-scaling and other features. This is going to be a challenging journey for every good Backend Engineer!\n\nJob Responsibilities:\n\n\n* Design and implementation of a large scale web crawling and extraction service.\n\n* Solution architecture for large scale crawling and data extraction: design, hardware and development effort estimations, writing proposal drafts, explaining and motivating the solution for customers,\n\n* Implementation and troubleshooting of Apache Kafka applications: workers, HW estimation, performance tuning, debugging,\n\n* Interaction with data science engineers and customers\n\n* Write code carefully for critical and production environments along with good communication and learning skills.\n\n\n\n\nRequirements:\n\n\n* Experience building at least one large scale data processing system or high load service. Understanding what CPU/memory effort the particular code requires,\n\n* Good knowledge of Python\n\n* experience with any distributed messaging system (Rabbitmq, Kafka, ZeroMQ, etc),\n\n* Docker containers basics,\n\n* Linux knowledge.\n\n* Good communication skills in English,\n\n* Understand a ways to solve problem, and ability to wisely choose between: quick hotfix, long-term solution, or design change.\n\n\n\n\nBonus points for:\n\n\n* Kafka Streams and microservices based on Apache Kafka, understanding Kafka message delivery semantics and how to achieve them on practice,\n\n* HBase: data model, selecting the access patterns, maintenance processes,\n\n* Understanding how web works: research on link structure, major components on link graphs,\n\n* Algorithms and data structures background,\n\n* Experience with web data processing tasks: web crawling, finding similar items, mining data streams, link analysis, etc.\n\n* Experience with Microservices,\n\n* Experience with JVM,\n\n* Open source activity.\n\n\nyagJzhkdapAsCMnUw7CpJAMi

\nWe're looking for a salaried full time Backend Python Engineer to work remotely from within Europe or from our London office. You will be joining an existing team of 20 to work on our server monitoring and cloud management service, Server Density.\n\nWe help our customers stay online, giving teams the right information at the right time so they can solve performance problems, and keep their systems running! Our product helps the UK National Health Service run the 999 emergency systems for ambulance response, it helps organisations like Greenpeace run effective campaigns and helps startups launch without embarrassment. Monitoring might be behind the scenes, but it has a real impact!\n\nWhat will you be working on?\n\n\n* Backend engineering - you will be working with our product backed with Python, Tornado (and other async Python libraries), Kafka/Storm, Google Cloud Bigtable and MongoDB. You'll be designing, building and usability testing new functionality and improving existing features.\n\n\n\n* Feature development - we have a long roadmap and you will get to lead development on major new functionality. This isn't backend internal work - everything will be customer facing.\n\n\n\n* Customer development - you'll get to see how our customers use the product on a daily basis so you can help fix bugs and improve existing functionality based on real feedback. Why have a stock reply we send to hundreds of customers experiencing the same problem when a quick code fix can solve it once and for all?\n\n\n\n* Writing for a large audience - our blog is popular because our team write about common problems and interesting developments we're experiencing. You will have the opportunity to tell people about the interesting fix you made and why it worked so well, a tricky problem you were able to solve or teach our subscribers an improvement you were able to implement. Some of our team have even developed these into talks at local and international meetups and conferences, which we encourage with preparation help, marketing sponsorship and all travel expenses paid.\n\n\nyagJzhkdapAsCMnUw7CpJAMi\n\n#Location\n- ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡บEU-only

When applying for jobs, you should NEVER have to pay to apply. That is a scam! Posts that link to pages with "how to work online" are also scams. Don't use them or pay for them. Also always verify you're actually talking to the company in the job post and not an imposter. Scams in remote work are rampant, be careful! When clicking on the button to apply above, you will leave Remote OK and go to the job application page for that company outside this site. Remote OK accepts no liability or responsibility as a consequence of any reliance upon information on there (external sites) or here.
