You design and build a cutting edge analyzing and reporting platform for our network data security products and work in close collaboration with our product management. The role requires strong Java knowledge.

This year

Seeq is a data analytics startup. What makes us different is that we’re going after a big market that’s often overlooked by tech companies: industrial process data. Think pharmaceutical manufacturers, wind farms, and energy companies with tons of equipment and sensors. We’re applying a unique mix of technologies and a deep understanding of the problems faced by these industries to build and refine a product that's a huge leap over existing tools and methodologies.

Our company is 100% remote. You can work anywhere in the US and Canada (we're staying in compatible timezones for now). We use a variety of collaboration tools, like Sococo and Slack, which makes us feel like we’re in the same building together.

Technology Stack

  • Java / JVM languages
  • Cassandra
  • Tinkerpop 3 / Titan Graph Database
  • Elasticsearch
  • Spark (soon)
  • Node.js
  • AngularJS

    Skills & Requirements

You love to code, and you love great software design. You know a well-written API when you see one because you’ve written many yourself.

You are constantly finding ways to perfect your craft, be a better teammate, and come up with cool stuff.

You’re disciplined with a high attention to detail. You love Agile/Scrum. You evangelize unit testing, continuous integration, and elegant solutions. You are allergic to bugs and have to take care of them immediately.

You learn things quickly. You’re usually the one suggesting new technologies and raising the bar for the whole team. You listen really well, and you know how to make your ideas be heard without turning people off.

You’ve got a Bachelor’s, Masters or PhD in Computer Science or Engineering.

You know Java like the back of your hand and you’ve used other JVM languages. You want to work with the tech stack we listed above, and on cloud platforms like EC2/GCE/Azure. You may be an expert at one (or more!) of these. You may or may not be Batman and/or Catwoman.

You are up for traveling periodically to hang out with your colleagues and get some face-to-face time.

You know how to balance life & work, and you don’t want a job that forces you to choose between them.

You want to work with a bunch of really smart people that love working together. And you want to work for a startup with good investors and a bright future.

We are a team of distributed software developers focusing on exciting challenges of voice, video and text: real-time communications. We are Mojo Lingo: Voice Applications that Work Like Magic.

At Mojo Lingo, the focus of everything we do is communications. Communications underlie everything humans do: every new idea that spread, every magnificent cathedral built, every successful revolution happened because the team behind it communicated effectively. Our mission is to bring seamless, contextual, powerful communications to the world.

We seek an experienced Voice & Messaging Engineer to join our team creating these applications. As a remote position, you will be largely autonomous, and depend on conferencing, instant messaging and screen sharing for collaboration. Your strong problem-solving skills and love for a challenge will be brought to bear delivering ambitious features and vanquishing complex bugs. Each person on our team is empowered to make decisions and enjoys great latitude in choosing the right tools and method for the job, and so will you.

You should have experience developing, deploying, supporting, troubleshooting services that support voice & messaging. Ideally, this will include Voice over IP (such as SIP) and/or Instant Messaging (such as XMPP). You should be familiar with popular open source options, and even better if you know about commercial ones too. You also should not be afraid of pulling out tools like Wireshark and wrangling gigabytes of logfiles.

From the beginning we have been a distributed team, with headquarters in Atlanta, but our team members are located around North America, South America, and Europe. We build tools that enable people to communicate fluidly across a wide range of devices, technologies and physical spaces. We are known as application developers and often use technology like speech recognition, text-to-speech, Voice over IP (telephony and non-telephony), instant messaging/text chat and everything to do with the Web.

If you enjoy delighting people by making computers do unexpected things, all while solving complex, technical challenges in a unique industry, come join us!

Summary Requirements

Must Haves - Soft Skills

  • Curiosity and aptitude for learning complex systems

  • Experience developing and deploying voice or messaging applications

    Duties and Responsibilities

Drive development of high-visiblity, customer-facing projects

  • Diagnose failures in staging and production environments, understand the underlying issues, and resolve them
  • Work on stories as described in our agile project management tool (Pivotal Tracker or Sprintly)
  • Join our daily standup calls to report status to the team
  • Take feedback from testers and users to identify and resolve application problems
  • Make recommendations on additional features or functionality
  • Communicate with clients to understand requirements and report regularly on progress

The Zotero team is looking for a full-time, contract developer to work on the Zotero website, joining a major redesign of zotero.org and helping to shape the Zotero ecosystem going forward. You’ll work with both front- and back-end technologies, including the latest standards and tools for building rich client-side web applications, which you’ll help choose. (Think we should use ES6 via Babel or build something with React? Let’s do it.) While you’ll be primarily responsible for the Zotero website, you might also pitch in with other parts of the project, helping to extend the Zotero web API, optimize the AWS infrastructure, or build back-end services to power new features. As part of a small team, you’ll have responsibility over core components of the project and the freedom to experiment and find creative solutions to tough problems. Most importantly, you’ll participate in a vibrant global open-source community with amazing community developers and passionate users.

The core Zotero development team meets periodically in person (conference room in Virginia, falafel joint in Paris, cafe in New York City), but you’ll primarily be working remotely, communicating with Zotero developers and users via chat rooms, forums, mailing lists, and GitHub. We have a highly collaborative but asynchronous workflow, and you’ll be in control of your own schedule. Our hours are flexible and variable: we might be debating a new feature at 1 p.m. or deploying a major upgrade at 1 a.m.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience with JavaScript and PHP (don’t worry, we don’t like PHP either, but we have existing code that uses it; for recent projects we’ve used JavaScript/ES6, Python, and Go)
  • Experience building rich client-side web applications
  • Comfort using command-line Linux/Unix systems and services
  • Strong attention to privacy and security issues
  • A love of free and open-source software
  • Strong communication skills — we discuss and debate nearly everything we do, so it’s critical that you can (and want to!) take part in that

    Bonus Points

  • Previous remote work experience
  • Experience with open-source infrastructure software: MySQL, Node.js, Memcached, Redis, Elasticsearch, etc.

    About Zotero

Zotero is an open-source project that develops software and web services to help people collect, organize, cite, and share their research. Our software is recommended by universities worldwide and used by students, scholars, researchers, scientists, and many others. We have some big plans for the future, and we need help making those happen.

The Zotero team is looking for a full-time, contract developer to work across the Zotero ecosystem. Your work might include improving the Zotero desktop software and browser extensions, extending the Zotero web API, managing an extensive AWS infrastructure, or building back-end services to power new features. As part of a small team, you’ll have responsibility over core components of the project and the freedom to experiment and find creative solutions to tough problems. As a Site Reliability Engineer at ReactiveOps, your primary goal will be to ensure our client’s applications are available, fast, and secure. Our clients need the best service, support, and products, and we need you to help us deliver.

JOB DESCRIPTION

At ReactiveOps, we offer two main products: DevOps consulting and managed operations. Through DevOps consulting, we write infrastructure automation, migrate to high-availability solutions, and craft Docker/CoreOS microservices architectures for our clients. You’ll work directly with clients to ensure their goals are met through automation, analysis, and infrastructure configuration.

Via managed operations, we act as our client's “outsourced, in-house DevOps team”, on top of AWS and other cloud vendors, as best meets our client’s needs. You’ll manage globally load balanced AWS installations, cross-datacenter replication on different vendors, or within client’s data-centers.

No matter the product, we take a DevOps-centric approach with our clients - we believe that we provide amazing service and our clients get the best value when we work closely together. We integrate task trackers (Pivotal, Trello, Asana), chat (Slack, Hipchat), and source control (github) into our own workflow through careful and clever use of automation, giving our clients the ability to contact us like they would with an internal DevOps team but without an operational burden on us.

You’ll work with virtualization and container technologies like Docker, CoreOS, Kubernetes, OpenStack, Vagrant, and Ansible. You will setup and automate high availability data clusters (MySQL Galera, PostgreSQL replication, Redis cluster, ElasticSearch clustering, Memcached, MongoDB etc.), application instances for technologies like Ruby-on-Rails, Django, Node, and Scala (to name a few). You'll engineer management, orchestration, monitoring, and alerting for fleets of instances. If you’ve ever wanted to work at a scale that few companies do, you’ll find the right challenge here at ReactiveOps!

We all work from home and have a “Remote First” culture. We are a Results-Only Work Environment, have a transparent and public technical ladder, minimum vacation policy and unlimited time off, and require healthy work-life balance. We pay 100% of individual and family health insurance premiums, participate in 401k match and have been bootstrapped and profitable since our founding. All employees participate in quarterly profit sharing, and we all get together for periodic all-expenses-paid retreats.

We're hiring across experience bands from mid to senior levels.

We are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity at our company. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform DevOps-focused consulting work for diverse clients
  • Create and maintain system architecture, design, and automation
  • Pair with other SRE/SAs, mentor junior staff
  • Release and maintain open-source software and projects
  • Author blog posts and participate in the community by going to meetups, conferences, etc. as a ReactiveOps representative
  • Manage availability and performance problems for clients; automate resolution to prevent re-occurrence

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proficient in Ruby, Python, or JavaScript
  • Significant experience with config management or automation frameworks like Chef, Puppet, or Ansible
  • 4 years maintaining production infrastructure on a Linux environment
  • Intermediate Ubuntu system administration skills
  • Strong DevOps experience and client service skills
  • Ability to participate in on-call/pager rotation as necessary

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5-8 years maintaining high volume, distributed production infrastructure and microservices/Docker architectures
  • Superior DevOps mentality and client service skills
  • Strong Ubuntu system administration skills
  • Deep experience debugging, profiling, upgrading Ruby on Rails, NodeJS, or Python applications and application servers
  • Previous database administration experience
  • Demonstrated public accomplishments via open source, speaking, blogging, etc.

DESCRIPTION

Who we are:

We’re in the business of delivering awesome meals to your home.
We build and run a superb website, suite of mobile apps, and a fleet of drivers, all so you can order from real restaurants, to your doorstep.

We work with hundreds of the UK's best loved restaurants (Carluccio's, GBK, Nando's, Rossopomodoro, many top quality independents) to deliver their meals to homes and offices everywhere. Our customers are as passionate about great food as we are — and we satisfy them in just 32 minutes on average!

What we do:

As a logistics company, our software is used to transport physical goods and solve real-world problems. We handle rapid decisions about dispatching drivers in real-time and remove slow human think-time and inefficient information discovery from every interchange point in the order processing workflow so food deliveries can be fulfilled as quickly as possibly. Our current total order fulfillment time from the time that the customer submits an order until they receive their meal is, on average, 32 minutes, although we know we can do better.

You:

Our product team needs to grow, quickly: our breackneck-paced growth comes with many challenges, from our dispatch backend to excellence in front-end UX, and from software architecture to highly usable mobile applications.

We're uncompromising though: we're like smart, ambitious software engineers, designers, and product managers to join us, and help us build and scale this lovable (and loved!) product.

We are looking for like-minded developers who truly love the craft of software engineering. We value a job well done rather than unreasonably long hours. We encourage engineer to be curious, put time into studying software development (learn new languages, study design patterns or algorithms, experiment with new open source frameworks, etc) and to continue to develop new skills.

As a Software Engineer (backend) on our team, you will:

  • Work with great product people, like Greg (our CTO), Simon (Head of design), Marty (full-stack engineer), or Julien (backend engineer).
  • Be exposed to the whole business, in an environment where your ideas counts.
  • Work with teams from the entire company to design and deliver features for a rapidly growing suite of products
  • Design, build, ship and maintain software features across one or more parts of our stack — from operations, backend, and APIs to highly interactive front-ends and mission-critical mobile applications.
  • Contribute to a learning organisation: you'll help defining how we work together, and how we build a great product.
  • Report to the CTO.

    REQUIREMENTS

  • Pride in readable, well-designed, well-tested software.
  • Professional experience with Ruby and Ruby on Rails (2+ years)
  • We'll still consider you if you have done some Ruby on the side, and have worked with similar environment (Python/Django, Perl/Catalyst, PHP/Laravel, Groovy/Grails).
  • Experience with relational databases (PostGreSQL, MySQL) and key-value stores (Memcache, Redis)
  • A relentless desire to satisfy every customer's palate.
  • A sense of humour.
  • A stash of Kangaroo GIFs (Cat GIFs tolerated).

    Nice-to-haves:

  • Experience with PostGIS, or any geography-heavy applications.
  • Experience with "NoSQL" data backends (Redis, MongoDB, ElasticSearch).
  • Experience with Go.
  • Experience with logistics.

    BENEFITS

  • Work where you want.
  • As long as you have a great internet connection, and you're happy to come see us regularly of course!
  • Top-notch kit. Bring your own or we'll get you a shiny new Macbook and stuff.
  • Eat great food.
    • If you're remote, that's a good reason to come to the office regularly!
    • If not, watch that waistline ^_^
  • Tech and food events with the team.
  • Gym membership (if in London). Probably important in a food company.
  • Swag! You'd better like kangaroos though.

Gitter

Devops Infrastructure Engineer

Gitter

2yr

Apply

At Gitter we're growing a communication network for developers and people who create software. We are home to thousands of open source software communities and help private teams communicate better.

Our small team is rapidly growing and are looking for great people in any corner of the world to help us build a better product.

About the role

You'll take ownership of the Gitter cloud infrastructure with the goal of ever improving the manageability, measurability, reliability and performance of the system. As the system architect, you'll be working closely with developers from the outset of any work to define how to build software with your goals in mind.

Additionally, you'll oversee the project to distribute our infrastructure across multiple availability zones and regions, including sharding our MongoDB infrastructure.

Gitter's usage is growing exponentially and our communities require zero downtime and snappy performance to communicate. You'll need to predict and forecast the needs of the system and continually take away system bottlenecks before they become an issue.

Open Source

Not only does Gitter host tens-of-thousands of open source communities, but we're passionate about using, and contributing back to, open source projects. We've open sourced our IRC bridge, our desktop clients, many libraries and have plans to open source a great deal more of our code-base. Wherever possible, we reject Not-Built-Here syndrome in favour of using -- and improving through contributions -- existing open-source projects.

GitHub is not your CV, but the ideal candidate will have a demonstrable experience with contributing to open source through commits, pull-requests, issues or comments.

Interesting challenges

Our stack is based around node.js, express.js, MongoDB, Redis, Elasticsearch, Marionette.js, LESS, Faye running on Ubuntu Linux on AWS Cloud infrastructure, orchestrated with Ansible and it's evolving all the time with our product. There's also iOS and Android pieces built on a hybrid HTML/native model.

Although we're a small company, you'll be growing past the boundaries of current state of the art of technology as far as as you would be in almost any (non-research) startup out there. For example, we've worked with Amazon as we've been the first to discover and isolate some unique serious issues in Amazon Webservice's ELB.

You'll be working in an open environment, where everyone's ideas are equally welcome and all new features are brainstormed together by the whole team.

We're looking for people who are accomplished, but not arrogant; experienced but hungry to learn; perfectionists, but pragmatic; passionate, but personable; we're looking for balanced individuals.

Requirements

You must have proven, real world experience with:

Managing Linux, BSD or Solaris cloud-based infrastructure
Excellent command-line skills
Kernel tuning and low-level unix-like diagnostic tools
Continuous integration and deployment systems (we use Jenkins and Ansible)
node.js services
MongoDB, including sharding
IT Automation tools, preferably Ansible
Amazon WebServices, particularly EC2, ELB, VPC but also S3, Cloudfront, Cloudwatch
Application Monitoring and Alerting (we use Datadog, monit and Pagerduty)
Additionally, experience with the following technologies would be a bonus:

Containerisation and similar technologies (Docker, CoreOS, FreeBSD Jails, Ubuntu Core, etc)
ChatOps (Hubot, etc)

Great users

Your role will be as a engineer, engineering software for software engineers. It's the ultimate dog-fooding and you will empathise with our users needs, frustrations and desires. In fact, Gitter was built using Gitter from day one.

Remote working

We have a great little office in London, but wherever you are most comfortable working, that's fine by us. If you do happen to come into the office, we get Graze snacks sent in every week and work just around the corner from one of London's best street-food markets, Whitecross Street Market, where we get our lunch together almost every day.

We will always be flexible on hours and if you have a family, we understand that they will always be your number one priority.

Stock Plan

We have a generous employee stock plan - and have allocated 20% of our shares to the employee pool (most startups are closer to 10-15%).

We are seeking an experienced Web Front End Developer to join our team creating these applications. As a remote position, you will be largely autonomous, and depend on instant messaging and screen sharing for collaboration. In particular, we’re looking for someone who is a strong problem-solver and relishes a challenge in wrangling ambitious features and vanquishing complex bugs. Each person on our team is empowered to make decisions and enjoys great latitude in choosing the right tools and method for the job.

When we say “Front End” we are primarily looking for someone who can use the great power of JavaScript and Ruby on Rails to create interactive and ultimately usable web applications. The skills we think you’ll need the most are JavaScript (experience with frameworks like React, Angular, Ember or similar is required, but we’re looking for someone who is flexible), as well as experience delivering applications with Ruby on Rails. Obviously you should also be strong with HTML and CSS. If you’re not a great designer, not to worry. We’re more concerned about someone who can deliver the function over the form.

Want to change how the world engages with news and data?

Selerity has dominated ultra-low-latency data science in finance for several years. Now our real-time content analytics and contextual recommendation platform is gaining broader traction in media and we need to scale up!

We’re looking for an experienced, hands-on data scientist to join a major initiative at a critical point in our company’s growth. We use a combination of open source NLP/machine learning tools and proprietary technologies to solve hard problems in areas like information extraction and contextual recommendation.

This position offers a great opportunity to work with advanced technologies, collaborate with a top-notch, global team and disrupt a highly visible, multi-billion-dollar market.

You:

  • Possess a rock-solid background in Computer Science (minimum BS in Comp Sci or related field) + at least 5 years (ideally 10+) of challenging work experience.

Clearly communicate complex technical and product issues to non-technical team members, clients, etc.
  • Bonus points for experience implementing machine learning algos on GPU's or other hardware acceleration!

Our stack combines leading commercial and open source technologies with numerous home-grown innovations, including:

We are a design driven team of three founders, focused on impeccable user experience. Simplicity, quality, and care inform our decisions and processes. We believe in a collaborative, feedback-rich design process, and feel that great experiences can only come from teams who care deeply. This is the company we’ve always wanted to exist. We share what this all means to us on our blog.

You’re a product minded software engineer who evaluates all of your work through the lens of user experience, regardless of which layer of the stack you’re working in. You’ve created a number of fully-formed software products that have been released into the wild. You believe that code is a means to an end, not the end itself.

Because the range of projects is diverse, we need a full-stack Rails engineer with experience working on a wide variety of products. You’ll work on projects like: improving our natural language date range search, implementing integrations with 3rd party services, or working to improve the responsiveness and reliability of our API. You’ll also work with the entire team in creating new customer-facing features, from idea, through prototype, to release and maintenance.

  • Our backend runs on Rails with MySQL, Redis, and Elasticsearch on AWS. You should have experience building scalable and maintainable services with Rails.
  • Our front-end is built with CoffeeScript, SASS and HAML. You should have a deep understanding of HTML, CSS and Javascript.
  • The glue between our front-end and back-end is HTTP, so you should have a thorough understanding of this part of the stack including: cookies, caching, AJAX, cross-domain sharing, security issues, etc.
  • We write automated tests for all of our code. You should be passionate about testing since you know it’s the only way to deliver high quality software.

We’d love for you to work with us in Palo Alto, but we’re open to the right person, anywhere.

If you’re interested, please send a link to your Github account and any products you’ve worked on recently that you are particularly proud of. We prefer great work over resumes.

DESCRIPTION

Let’s just cut right to the chase. This job is for you if

  • you’re passionate about the idea of helping churches solve ministry problems through data and intelligence in a way that truly impacts the lives of the people they (we!) serve;
  • solving these ministry problems with JavaScript (browser and Node.js), Elasticsearch, and Redis in a distributed, service-oriented architecture is firmly in your wheelhouse;
  • you thrive working remotely (if not, we also have an office in San Diego).

Is your head nodding in agreement as you’re reading this? Please, keep reading!

    What We’re Building

Here at MonkDev, we’ve spent nearly ten years building Ekklesia 360 into a platform that’s now used by thousands of churches across the globe. It’s likely that you’ve visited a church website powered by us, such as The Village Church or Eagle Brook Church.

As you can imagine, this provides us with access to a lot of data. But it’s data that churches have no idea how to interpret and apply. In fact, most churches still rely on giving and attendance numbers to make ministry decisions. Not that those are necessarily bad metrics, but consider how rudimentary they are compared to the tools available to sales/marketing or even us in the product/engineering world.

We want to change that. By tapping into the data to provide intelligent, actionable metrics, we believe we can truly help churches make better ministry decisions.

So, that’s what we’ve begun building, and we need your help to further the vision!

    REQUIREMENTS

  • A passion for helping the church and its members. All of us at MonkDev feel incredibly blessed to serve a market we care so deeply about and get to nerd out with code and technology. It’s a special combination that’s not easily found. Be sure to read more about us and see our lovely faces.
  • Real-world experience shipping stuff using JavaScript (browser and Node.js), Elasticsearch, and Redis in a distributed, service-oriented architecture. We’re a very small team, so chances are you’ll touch just about everything up-and-down our stack. To be clear though, it’s heavier server-side than front-end. This is not a job for strictly front-end JavaScript developers.
  • Curiosity and drive to be learning continuously. We’re looking for pretty specific skills here and now (the ones listed above), but that doesn’t mean they’ll always be the right tools for the job. Maybe we’ll decide that Elixir or InfluxDB is better suited for the problem down the road. The only way we’ll know is by staying curious.
  • The ability to collaborate and communicate in a remote environment. While part of the team is centralized in San Diego, a number of us are scattered throughout the US working from homes, coffee shops, and co-working spaces. Slack and Google Hangout are our dear friends.
  • Care for writing simple, clean, and beautiful code. Code is craft. However you like to word it, we’re looking for excellence and attention to detail. Yet, it’s balanced with a desire to ship early and often, and not two years later when every line is perfect and fully tested. (It’s a hard balance, don’t get us perfectionists wrong.)
  • An eye and appreciation for good design and user experience. We want to build a product that delights, and we believe that starts within the culture of the Engineering team.
  • BONUS: Experience with PHP, Ruby/Rails, and MySQL/PostgreSQL. We use these in other parts of Ekklesia 360, so it only helps us as a team if you can jump in and get familiar quickly.

    BENEFITS

  • Competitive salary
  • Health, dental, vision and life insurance
  • 401(k) matching options
  • Flexible Spending Account (FSA/Section 125)
  • Premium Only Plan for pre-tax deduction of eligible benefits
  • Comprehensive employee assistance program (counseling and advice on legal, financial, and personal matters)

About the Team

There are no monoliths here. Each application in our platform has a clear and distinct purpose and all of them are built in house. That means small, clean code bases with little technical debt and lots of flexibility. We use RabbitMQ to send messages about real-world events to other apps which decide whether or not to do something with them. This de-coupled, asynchronous architecture allows us to scale with ease and add or change components as needed. We use a combination of shared gems and RESTful services to share synchronous business logic between our systems.

About the You

We hire engineers with great Product instincts because we are also the Product team. Building great software is a collaborative effort, so we work directly with stakeholders in the business. We deliver products & solutions—not features—because we understand how Stitch Fix works and are trusted to focus our time and effort where they are needed most.

We are looking for an experienced full-stack engineer who has built or worked heavily on a couple of Rails applications and has some other MVC framework experience. You want to learn from an experienced development team and develop your own skills.

You may not have much hands-on product experience but it’s something you are keen to learn because you love talking to your clients & users about what you can build for them. You are interested in how StitchFix works as a business, not just in the technology, and you would like a chance to make it work even better.

We get excited about candidates with…

  • Real Tech Fluency--you can build anything with anything, and you probably have several years software development experience with a couple of those years working in Ruby on Rails. You can learn from us, and we can learn from you.
  • Great Communication Skills--you aren’t just great at listening, speaking, and writing. You are able to convey complex ideas and information regardless of the medium or situation.
  • Product-Centric Thinking--you have opinions about how the product you’re building should work. You dig deep and work with customers, the company, and our executive team to uncover the ideal way to leverage technology to solve problems.
  • Self-Directed Working Style--once you’ve got something, we don’t have to worry about it. You have a bias toward action. Our team doesn’t have QA, Project Managers, or Product Managers, so we take ownership of what we build.
  • Respect for the Craft--you build software sustainably, using modern techniques. You are always looking for more and better ways to write software, and are willing to share them with your team.
  • Respect, Empathy & Humility--you take your work seriously but not yourself. You show everyone respect, regardless of the circumstance. Extra points if you’re already a Stitch Fix superfan!

    Bonus Points

  • Experience working collaboratively as a team--we use GitHub, Heroku, HipChat, Screen Hero, and Blue Jeans to get stuff done online. We’re more interested in your personal process for collaboration than specific technologies, but are always on the lookout for better ways to work.
  • Good at prototypes and design discussion--experience using pull requests, one-pagers, or screencasts to create rapid prototypes that demonstrate new features
  • Experience with testing and CI--we're working with the usual Ruby gems like Rspec, Capybara and others for unit and feature tests and use CircleCI to bring it all together.
  • Experience or interest in distributed, service-oriented architecture--we’re using tools like RabbitMQ, ElasticSearch, and headless HTTP services to scale our team and software. We’re learning as we go, so your experience or keen interest can ensure our systems handle our ever-increasing load.

Why you will love working at Stitch Fix

  • Competitive salaries and generous equity.
  • A business that trusts and embraces tech.
  • A leadership team that wants to do it right and is open to new ideas.
  • A startup with a proven business model that’s growing fast.
  • Use your preference of tools and hardware.
  • A comprehensive health insurance plan, including full dental and vision coverage.
  • Fully stocked pantry with your choice of snacks and drinks.
  • Sunny offices in downtown San Francisco, downtown Pittsburgh, or your home :)
  • Full support for remote work—you get to visit our SF office every couple months to connect with your peers and partners.

    About Stitch Fix:

At Stitch Fix we are redefining retail shopping being the first fashion retailer to blend expert styling, proprietary technology and unique product to deliver a shopping experience that is truly personalized for you. Using a unique blend of art and science we deliver a deeply personalized shopping service to our customers. This novel juxtaposition, at once analytic and artistic, technical and adventurous, attracts an extraordinary collection of talented people who are both thinkers and doers. Our diverse workforce has catalyzed enormous company growth over the past three years in terms of customer satisfaction and service efficacy. We would love for you to help us carry on the trend.

The Company

Our mission at Simple is to radically redesign the consumer banking experience with a focus on beautiful interfaces, transparent policies, modern technology, and extraordinary customer service.

The Job

The whole team at Simple takes security very seriously. We value robust high-level security architecture, meticulous security engineering, and harmony between Security and the rest of the company. You'd be the third member of our Security Engineering team. This is a hands-on position -- candidates should be ready to design, build, and maintain secure systems. They should also be comfortable in the role of an internal security consultant, communicating thoughtfully with the rest of the team about security design concerns and tradeoffs. The position will include a mix of high-level security design, day-to-day operational security tasks, code reviews, and building and maintaining security infrastructure.

We recognize the dire lack of diversity in our industry, and we're not okay with it. We actively seek to address it with our hiring, onboarding, and retention processes, as well as our office culture. We want a great coworker in addition to a great coder -- passion, humor, and desire to learn are a must!

An ideal candidate for this position would:

  • Be comfortable with multiple programming languages and willing to learn and work with unfamiliar platforms.
  • Understand and be ready to use modern development processes like revision control, automated testing, static analysis, and continuous integration.
  • Be familiar with or ready to learn the Amazon Web Services platform (e.g., IAM, EC2, S3, KMS, SQS, Redshift, CloudFormation, VPC).
  • Have experience with some of the specific open source and commercial security tools we use (e.g., Suricata, BroIDS, ModSecurity, OSSEC, OpenVPN, Snorby, MozDef, OpenFPC, Nessus, Burp, Threat Stack, CrowdStrike).
  • Be prepared to design and build effective security controls in web applications, mobile platforms, and backend systems.
  • Be excited to work with our Product team to design user-facing security features with an eye for user experience and simplicity.
  • Be ready to share in day-to-day operational security tasks such as security event review and incident response.

  • Be willing to work with our Information Security Governance team to keep our security controls and business processes compliant with relevant policies and standards.

    Technical Environment

We have a service oriented architecture with code in Scala, Clojure, Ruby, Go, Javascript, and more. Our code runs on Ubuntu Linux in AWS and is built around immutable snapshot-based deployments with a focus on automation. We also rely on many other open source components like Chef, Postgres, RabbitMQ, ElasticSearch, Apache, HAProxy, and Heka.

We believe strongly in automation, metrics, testing, continuous integration, and working fluidly and harmoniously with our development, operations, and product teams. We strive for simplicity and maintainability in everything we write. Our team includes active open source contributors and we hope that you are too (or, at least, that you want to be).

    Benefits

We offer competitive pay, great benefits, bonus opportunities, and a nice budget for all the tools you need to do your job. We encourage and subsidize conference participation and continuing education. We believe in work/life balance and fostering a happy workplace.

Technical Ops Lead

TrackAbout

2yr

Apply

At TrackAbout, you'll work with a first-class team of passionate, friendly, fun and highly-skilled people. Our technical talent is, frankly, outstanding. Our software solves real-world, challenging problems for our customers all over the world, and they appreciate it. You'll gain first-hand experience working for a tight-knit, awesome company that has big, global customers.

We are seeking an exceptional Tech Ops Lead. This role reports directly to the Chief Technology Officer of TrackAbout.

This job is intended to be staffed in our Pittsburgh-area office, but we will consider a remote worker living in the United States if the fit is good.

You will be responsible for:

  • Managing the infrastructure on which TrackAbout runs its services and its business, hosted and on-premise (35-40 servers). This includes network, server and OS, but also third-party SaaS and self-hosted applications and platforms upon which we depend.
  • Monitoring, alerting.
  • Patching and updating.
  • Setting and implementing security policies.
  • Automation via Chef (Ruby) and PowerShell, primarily.
  • Managing key vendor relationships, including that of our hosting provider. You will also manage the relationship with our Pittsburgh managed service provider (MSP) who provides primary help desk services in our office. Our MSP deals with most office technology issues, but you may be called upon to help out here.
  • Troubleshooting of all types.
  • Collaborating closely with our developers to make everything awesome.

This is an "on call" position, meaning you could be alerted by our monitoring systems and get involved in a firefighting situation in the wee hours. However, know that at TrackAbout, these incidents have been few and far between. This is a testament to the talent and dedication our entire team brings to making sure things run smoothly.

You must be very familiar with:

  • Virtualization (VMware, in our case). Experience with AWS and Azure is a plus.
  • Windows Server and Clustering (NOTE: Our customer offerings are written in .NET/SQL Server. Strong Windows skills are a must.)
  • CentOS or Red Hat Linux
  • Networking: firewalls, load balancers, routers, intrusion detection/prevention
  • Relational databases (SQL Server, MySQL/MariaDB)

You must have a passion for good security and understand how best to strike a balance between security and convenience.

You're going to need to know things like:

  • Implementing strong Active Directory group policies
  • Hardening Windows and Linux
  • TLS/SSL certificate management and cipher suite selection
  • How to analyze a network tcpdump
  • How to troubleshoot high CPU incidents, file locking, etc.
  • DNS domain registration, managing records
  • Monitoring with WMI and SNMP
  • SMTP config and relaying

You must be able to demonstrate your scripting or programming skills. We do not want "gray button mashers" who manage via RDP and GUIs. We automate everything we can at TrackAbout, and that requires capable scripters or programmers. You'll need to know git to manage your code and scripts.

Ideally, you'll have worked in an ISO-9000-compliant company, or a company that follows quality guidance such as ITIL or otherwise. You understand the importance of logging and documenting your work, but you make every effort to avoid creating crippling, bureaucratic processes that don't help anyone.

    Other cool stuff we use:

  • Slack - Enterprise chat
  • Trello - How we manage the work queue
  • Git/GitHub - How we manage our code and scripts
  • Zenoss - Open source monitoring
  • ELK Stack - ElasticSearch, Logstash, Kibana - centralized logging
  • New Relic - Server and Application Performance Monitoring
  • Pingdom - External monitoring
  • StatusPage.io - Public status page and incident managemnet
  • Mediawiki - Our documentation platform of choice is a wiki
  • Google Apps for Work - Gmail, Gcal, etc.

Travis CI is looking for a support engineer to manage our frontline support and help our customers.

Support engineers help our customers with both our hosted platforms for open source and private projects, and our Travis CI Enterprise product, which our customers install and run on their own infrastructure.

Our support requests involve build problems across multiple programming languages and build environments, with solutions oftentimes focusing on technical problems with programming languages, build tooling and their ecosystems.

The role of a customer support engineer in our team also includes reviewing support tickets, feedback requests and GitHub issues regularly to help us improve our product and our documentation.

Our main office is in Berlin and we have customers and a team spread across the globe. We're looking for support engineers to cover either the EU or US timezones.

Travis CI seeks to increase the ratio of women in software engineering and development, and we encourage women and people from underrepresented groups to apply for this position.

Travis CI is striving to be a diverse team, made of and built by people with different backgrounds and lifestyles. We don't discriminate based on race, gender, sexual orientation, marital status, disability, age, religion, color, or any other group.

REQUIREMENTS

You like working in a team, diving into and learning new technologies. Customer support is our team's highest priority and everyone's concern is to support you and our customers to keep them happy. You'll always have someone from the team available to have your back.

You enjoy talking to and helping people (in English) and support them in finding good solutions to the issues they approach us with, writing clear instructions to walk them through the solution.

You have experience with supporting (or building) applications in at least one programming language, and with troubleshooting problems in build automation and services like MySQL, RabbitMQ, or ElasticSearch. Experience with the Linux command line is beneficial.

You want to help us shape our customer support environment. We foster a culture of continuous improvement and we'd like you to be an essential part of it. If you have an idea for a better way to do something, you have our full support to implement it.

BENEFITS

This posting is specifically for the US and EU timezones but you can work from anywhere you want. You don't have to come to Berlin, but we're happy to fly you in to meet with them team whenever you want.

You choose your own working hours. We're flexible in how you work and where you work. We have families, and we encourage you to spend plenty of time with yours.

You take a minimum of 25 days paid leave per year.

We chip in for your health insurance. As a German company, we generally split about 50/50 between employer and employee, no matter where you are.

A Kindle book allowance so you can take time off and read.

You visit conferences. We'll pay for travel and tickets.

ABOUT US

Travis CI is a continuous integration platform: We run people's tests, deploy their code and help them be confident about their work.

We have strong roots in open source, both in our community and how Travis CI was built. We continue to support the open source community wherever we can.

Travis CI is run as a hosted service, free for open source, and a paid product for private code. It's also available as an on-premises version (Travis CI Enterprise).

We're a small, bootstrapped business from Berlin, Germany with a team distributed across the globe. Our goal is to help people build better software. Travis CI is profitable, and we're building a sustainable business for the long run.

Our team values working at a healthy pace and a normal working day over working crazy hours. We'd prefer you go take a walk or spend time with your family than try to work through just one more support ticket.

Empathy is one of our core values as a team and company, towards each other, and our customers.

We foster a culture of continuous improvement and learning. If something's worth fixing or improving, it should be fixed or improved. Making mistakes is part of what we do, and we make sure we have each other's backs and learn from them.

At Travis CI, we value diversity in all aspects of our team. We value everyone's questions, insights and feedback.

We devote time to help our customers, the open source community, diversity in software development and to help our local communities. Most importantly, we thrive to help and support each other.

Buzzstarter is a Y Combinator (S14) graduate looking to add a senior developer to our small product team.

Our product is a dual sided marketplace connecting advertisers with online influencers and distribution channels. We work with anyone from Fortune 500 companies to mom-and-pop shops to deliver any message to any audience.

So why work at Buzzstarter?

Culture

Culture is immensely important to us, we’re looking for a cultural fit as much as a technical one. We’re a highly passionate and self-motivated group of individuals whose location spans San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, New York and even some Europeans. You can be anywhere that makes you most productive and we realize that innovation doesn’t necessarily happen in an 8 hour time window. We’re looking for the best from anywhere on this planet.

Technology

We are an engineering culture of experimentation, fast releases and semi-continuous deployment. We use git flow and have automatic deployments to production after a round of automated testing and Rainforest QA.

Our stack is primarily Ruby + Node, with Angular for some complex internal Operations tools. We use Postgres, Mongo and Elasticsearch for various DB, analytics and search needs.

Opportunity

Forgive the cliche statement, but this market is gonna be huge. It’s an emerging market, one overlooked for so long and the soothsayers are saying it’s gonna be big.

We're looking for a talented Django developer to work on next year's Shorty Awards site. The Shorty Awards, now in its 8th year, are the awards for the best of social media. Past winners include Ricky Gervais, Taylor Swift, Conan O'Brien, Cory Booker, Jenna Marbles, Retta, George Takei, Bella Thorne, and Jerry Seinfeld. The Shortys also honor the best work by brands and media companies on social media. The annual ceremony brings together people in real life from around the world.

About The Position

You’ll be working with the Shorty Awards production team to execute a major update to the Shorty Awards website.

Our tech stack includes Python, Django, Celery, SASS, Redis, Elasticsearch, Nginx, Ansible, Gunicorn, Varnish, and Heroku.

This is a freelance job that can be done mostly remotely. It'd be ideal if you were in New York and could meet us in person. If not, it'd be best if you were in a US timezone.

About You

You'll be successful if you:

  • Have significant experience working on a complex, high-traffic site, particularly at a startup or software-as-a-service company.
  • Have 2-4 years experience with Django, Python, and other software in our tech stack, with a willingness to learn in those areas where you have less experience.
  • Enjoy working with and collaborating with designers, UX experts, and product managers to create outstanding features.
  • Take pride in the quality of the code you write. Your code is readable, testable, and understandable six months later. You adhere to the Zen of Python.
  • Are able to manage complexity in a large project, and incur technical debt only after considering the tradeoffs.
  • Work well in a fast-paced development environment with testing, continuous integration and multiple daily deploys.

Activision Blizzard USA is seeking to add a senior technical member to our team on a contract basis. We hope you have heard of us! We are a premier global entertainment technology company, with a 30-year track record of beloved game hits: Call of Duty, World of Warcraft, Starcraft, Guitar Hero, and many, many other titles.

We’ve got an advanced technology initiative underway around real-time business intelligence. It involves rapid handling of a mountain of continuous logging data. =)

We’re looking for veteran System Administrators in Asia and Europe to join our team as offsite after-hours DevOps members. We are particularly interested in Korea, Singapore, New Zealand, Poland, and U.K. based on time zone and English proficiency.

This means you can work from wherever you want as long as we establish sufficient security standards. It is not necessary that you reside in the USA. In fact, due to the after-hours working shift, we prefer East Asia or Europe geographically. In any case we know there are talented and reliable people all over the world today.

Your general responsibilities, as you know, are server design, setup, maintenance, product deployment, and monitoring. We will be hosting on AWS.

The positions will initially be 3-to-6-month contracts, with the potential to be extended to long-term or employee status after internal scale-up of the platform we are building.

We understand that not many people will have direct experience with all of the bits and pieces listed below -- checking all the boxes is not important. The truly important things are:

  • that you have some experience with large production environments handling a lot of data and throughput
    • passion for the craft that we all share
    • a love of ongoing learning to keep yourself at the top of the game.

In this modern era of rapid technology evolution, how quickly you can master new skills increasingly outweighs a dusty library in-your-head of evaporating skills-inventory.

For this type of DevOps role, excellent English communication is obviously vital. When issues crop up you need to be able to jump on it instantly, alert the rest of the team, and document what you are doing clearly and precisely.

      =================== The Laundry List ====================

      DevOps environment

  • Hosting: AWS
  • Task tracking: JIRA
  • Code repositories: Github, Stash
  • Continuous integration: Jenkins
  • Deployment: Docker
  • Application development: Java and Python

Our customer base is growing quickly, and we want your combination of tech and people skills to help our customers solve problems and get the most out of their databases at Compose. We operate a fleet of various databases, so there's something for everyone: MongoDB, PostgreSQL, Redis, Elasticsearch, RethinkDB, InfluxDB and likely many more!

If you are a developer, DevOps/SRE magician, or database junkie and know how to help developers with technical questions, we want to talk to you. You will be most effective if you have an inquisitive nature, love to learn, and can read and tweak source code written in a variety of languages. We're not just looking to fight fires, we're looking to prevent them. We pride ourselves in providing top-notch support and guidance, so being able to communicate effectively with empathy and compassion is a must.

This is the perfect position for a smart hacker who wants to gain experience at a customer-focused infrastructure startup. Spending time with our customers and product will let you improve your tech chops vastly, and should be solid preparation for a high-end distributed systems engineering position (we need those too, so if you start on support and do a great job, there's a huge amount of room for growth).

Our crew are deep analytical thinkers, group participants, and tenacious bug-squashers. Sound like you? Talk to us about the engineering problems we help customers with every day.

We keep our hiring process pretty straight forward and it's better than what you're use to. How does it work you ask? We start with sample exercises. These are real-world problems our team handles every day. They show you what work at Compose is like (so you can decide if it's a good fit for you) and your responses show us how you work (and we can see how you'd fit at Compose). After we get your sample exercises back and our team objectively looks over them (they don't know anything about applicants, they just see the samples), we'll schedule a group interview (usually over Google Hangout). Once that's behind you, you get a second interview with more Compose folks, and then the possibility of an offer. The whole process is pretty quick and usually done within a few weeks. Pretty cool, right?

You probably haven’t run into a company like Olark before.

We are 35 people distributed around the globe. We care deeply about customer service, which means everyone on the team spends time talking directly to our customers. We call this All Hands Support. It’s a unique way to make sure we all remember why we are building our product. We focused on our customers and now help over 10,000 of them provide amazing service.

This is a unique point in our company history. We just crossed the 30 employee mark this year, and you will play a pivotal role in helping define our engineering culture, and help us fulfill an important part of our mission, to build a positive organization.

Your primary responsibility will be to join the team that builds applications, systems, and infrastructure. You’ll be helping scale Olark to help 100,000s of people better serve their customers.

You will help us solve key engineering challenges:

  • How do we ensure real time message delivery to hundreds of thousands of concurrent visitors on tens of thousands of websites?
  • How do we design a robust integrations API that makes it easy for other developers to integrate with Olark without increasing our support cost?
  • How do we maintain real time state across mobile, desktop, and web?
  • How do we reliably store terabytes of transcripts and customer interactions?
  • How do we act on the vast quantities of data available to us, to make our users the most informed and capable chat agents on the internet?

You bring a lot to the table:

    You:

  • Work well as part of a distributed team. You are comfortable working outside of a typical office. You are happy to work independently, but know when to ask for help. You know how to give, and receive, direct feedback. You are a team player, and comfortable leading and contributing to projects.
  • Great communication skills. You are comfortable giving technical talks and mentoring other engineers. You are able to clearly communicate your thoughts in writing. You realize listening is just as important as speaking your mind. You know when a conversation should be in chat, skype, or face-to-face.
  • Curious. You are comfortable with ambiguity, and like to figure out how things work or what to do next.

    Your technical background and experience:

  • Very familiar with web technologies and patterns for scaling software like message queues, caching, and load balancing.
  • Meticulous attention to detail. You should be able to review code written by other engineers and find room for improvement. You should be able to write test suites for your code that exercise complicated code paths and prevent production mishaps. Every time we push out new code is an opportunity to delight thousands of customers (or a risk of making a bad day for those people).
  • Strong understanding of network programming, and operating system fundamentals. You’ve used command line tools to debug networking issues, know the difference between processes and threads, and understand the challenges of building software in the cloud.
  • Write good code. You should have examples of code you have written that is easy to read, maintainable, and testable. You should be able to decompose complicated problems into elegant solutions anyone on the engineering team can understand.
  • Always learning. This is a Python position, but you don’t need to have a ton of production Python experience. You are excited to learn our tech stack, and to help lead it forward. You’re comfortable making the right call when it comes to choosing between new technologies and tried and true standbys.
  • Significant production experience. You have 2+ years of experience shipping and maintaining production code that is used by 1000s of people. You have run into the edge cases of operating at scale, and can teach us how to avoid them.

You can expect a lot from us:

First off, make sure to read about our team culture at olark.com/jobs, and our values at olark.com/values. You can also get a sense of our history at olark.com/10000.

Beyond what you see there, as a member of your engineering team you can expect:

  • A great remote culture: much of our collaboration takes place via Hipchat, Github and Skype. That said, we’re happy to facilitate in-person meetups too -- in addition to our annual company retreat.
  • A life outside of work: Olarkers generally work 40 hour weeks, work is a marathon, not a sprint. We are building a company for the long haul.
  • Work within a large Service Oriented Architecture built on Python, Twisted, Thrift, and RabbitMQ. There’s MySQL, Redis, Elasticsearch, NodeJS, Rails and Ejabberd as well (bonus points if you're already familiar with these technologies!)
  • Quality-driven culture: we strive to automate testing and heavily monitor our production system. Our goal is ensuring that any end-user issues are short-lived and limited in scope.
  • One weekly required engineering meeting and team wide sync - we also only allow meetings on Monday and Wednesday to keep ourselves focused.
  • Great compensation and benefits: competitive pay, phone/internet stipend, health benefits, $1K vacation bonus for the first week you take off a year, 401k, charitable donation matching, coworking space if you are remote.

Olark is committed to diversity in its workforce. Olark is an equal employment opportunity employer and considers qualified applicants without regard to gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, race, veteran or disability status. Women and people of color are encouraged to apply.

About CoreSpring

CoreSpring.org is a non-profit company whose mission is to put good content, and state-of-the-art technology into the hands of teachers and product developers. We create web-based components and products to help teachers to deliver computer-based Formative assessments in their classrooms.

We are Looking For

We want to hire an engineer whose primary responsibility will be system operations:

  • Design, build and maintain the platform, processes and toolchain that allows developers to easily and frequently deliver and deploy quality software releases for our customers and for internal operational systems.
  • Develop processes to perform ongoing monitoring of effective performance of all operational systems.
  • Provide support and training for the platform and processes

We are a cross-functional development team, and the Operations Engineer will be a peer on that team. They will be expected to learn and understand the workings of our software (and if time allows, contribute to development) They will be supported in the development of operation systems by other members of the development team as needed.

We operate as a Devops team: Software deployments and system operation tasks are undertaken directly by developers. It will the the primary responsibility of the Operations Engineer to provide the toolchain and processes that make these tasks as simple and safe as possible.

We have a small, flexible, skilled team and want to find someone who is a good fit for how we work: Someone who is creative but pragmatic in their approach to software solution design. Someone who works well with a team, but is also happy working independently on a project if needed. Someone who believes in test-driven development, and who we can rely on to produce high-quality, clean and effective code, and help keep the rest of us diligent about doing the same.

Please provide link to portfolio, github (or similar) when responding if available.

    Work Environment

We are a small company, and have a small development team (5-6 engineers) with most of the engineering team working remotely across the US and Europe.

It is a very interesting and meaningful project, exploring the boundaries of what's possible with the latest developments in browsers, and providing engaging experiences for students as they learn.

It is a fun team to work with, with a flat organization structure. All developers get to work on all parts of the system, and all developers get input into technical / architectural decisions.

We maintain a sane working environment and measure success in results delivered, not the schedule that was worked.

    We Use

  • Server Side: Scala, Play framework, Heroku, MongoDb/Mongolab, Jenkins CI
  • Client Side: AngularJS, bower, less, npm, grunt, jasmine, phantomjs
  • Collaboration: Hipchat, JIRA, Confluence, Google Hangouts, Join.me

About Us

We're building a nationwide network of crowdsourced commercial real estate databases. Our wild start-up days are behind us – we're all grown up and profitable now with a 14-year track record and tens of thousands of clients that love us.

Within our small team, you'll be doing a little bit of everything:

  • Building and maintaining server-side frameworks and APIs
  • Adding and refining front-end features (JSP, JavaScript, JQuery, HTML5)
  • If you're into it, configuring and managing parts of our stack (JBoss/Wildfly, MySQL, MongoDB, ElasticSearch/ELK, salt)

We're not dogmatic about our tools/technologies – we use whatever best suits the task at hand.

    About You

Like us, you value stability, work/life balance, group decisions, and working with people that are good-natured, interesting, hard-working, and self-motivated.

You're a quick study, have some experience using Java to build web applications, and aren't afraid of the command line.

    Catylist is for you if...

  • You hate the corporate bureaucracy of a big company.
  • You're so over the chaos and uncertainty of a start-up. You like having reasonable hours and knowing that your job will be around next week.
  • Consulting/freelance is not your bag. You prefer to maintain and improve the products you've built rather than hand them off and move on.

This is a full-time, 40 hours per week, remote, W2 position with benefits (health/dental/vision/401k).
