## Now Hiring: Remote Senior Backend PHP Developer\n👪 Parental Leave\n🏥 Insurance Coverage\n💡 5 Years of Experience\n🌴Flexible Time Off Policy\n💼 Professional Development\n🗺 Anywhere in Eastern Europe 🗺 (This will be a remote position preferably in Slovenia but we’re open to hiring the right talent remote anywhere in Eastern Europe)\n## Who We Are\nCartHook is the leading checkout and upsell platform for Shopify brands, and we’re growing. To date, our customers have processed over a billion dollars through CartHook and, as we pursue our mission to help eCommerce merchants thrive, we have some big plans for expansion. That’s where you come in.\nWe are a group of people who give a damn. We believe in doing what’s right and speaking up, even when it’s difficult. We pursue success, humbly.\nWe work on two continents, with offices in Portland, Oregon, and Ljubljana, Slovenia. However, we’re growing our remote teams, so you can live and work just about wherever you want, as long as it meets any role-specific location or time zone requirements (which are outlined below). Just make sure you have a reliable internet connection.\nWe bridge time zones and distance with thorough and transparent communication, and processes designed to empower and support each other. We’re a company of people from a variety of backgrounds, with a range of perspectives, which makes us stronger. We frequently work in cross-functional teams, and you’ll get to work with awesome people in all different roles in the company. We leave our egos at the door and value input and ideas from everyone at the company.\n## How We Work\n**Live Where You Want\n**\nWe’re a hybrid of co-located and distributed teams, so you can live and work just about wherever you want.\n**No Crazy Hours\n**\nWe’re all adults and we trust each other to manage our time appropriately. There’s no need to punch a clock, or ask for permission to take off early one afternoon to go see the doctor. We look at what you accomplish, not how long you are in front of a computer. We work hard and smart, but we’re in this for the long haul.\n**Responsible Time Off\n**\nWe want you to take time off; it makes you happier, healthier, and more productive. In fact, we have an unlimited time-off policy, plus two mandatory weeks for a holiday break in December/January. It’s important you take the time you need, whether you’re caring for your health, the health of a family member, or going on vacation. (We look forward to seeing pictures of your trip in #the-pub Slack channel!) Be mindful of Black Friday through Cyber Monday. That’s our merchants’ busiest time of the year, and we need all-hands-on-deck just in case.\n**Grow and Learn\n**\nWe aren’t satisfied with what we already know; we want to learn more and we want you to as well. Think conferences (when those are a thing again), online courses and resources, and dedicated time away to learn something new…it’s up to you and your manager. Let us know what you need.\n**Benefits\n**\nInsurance coverage: For our U.S. employees, we offer health, dental, and vision insurance. We cover 100% of your medical and dental premiums and 75% for vision. We also cover a percentage of the premiums for dependents. If our default plan isn’t right for you, there are other options available to fit your needs.\nParental leave: All parents who welcome a new child by birth, surrogacy, foster, or adoption are eligible to take 8 weeks of paid leave. All birth mothers are eligible for an additional 8 weeks of paid leave. New mothers will be able to have a flexible, soft re-entry coming back to work.\n401k Plan: Employees are eligible for a 401k plan provided by Guideline and integrated into our payroll system. Plans are funded by the employee.\n## The Role\nAs a senior backend engineer, you will be creating powerful, flexible, highly scalable APIs and developing various backend systems and operations. Additionally, you will architect, define and maintain our database and models, and ensure our systems can keep up their high performance and responsiveness. You will be responsible for implementing new features and integrations as well as supporting our existing functionality. You will also join us in sprint planning and retrospectives and have the opportunity to make a lasting impact on our stack and the future of eCommerce.\nThis is a full-time, fully remote role. Ideally, you are located in a European timezone, but we are open to other timezones on a case by case basis\n## What we’re looking for\n- Minimum 5 years of experience in backend systems and API development\n- Advanced knowledge of PHP (minimum of 5 years)\n- Advanced knowledge of Laravel (minimum of 2 years or other related frameworks)\n- Advanced knowledge of MySQL or similar relational database systems\n- Excellent REST API understanding\n- Excellent understanding of OOP concepts\n- Excellent understanding of software design patterns\n- Excellent time management skills\n- GitHub, Docker, Buildkite, and similar development tools\n- Ability to problem-solve, track, and follow up on a variety of complex technical issues with internal and external stakeholders\n- Ambition, the ability to think beyond, be highly collaborative, and extremely driven\n## Bonus points\n- AWS Knowledge\n- Ecommerce knowledge\n- Scrum and agile development\n- Experience with high-performance systems\n- Deep understanding of database operations\nSo, are you game? [Nomad List](https://nomadlist.com) is the most popular website for the fast growing movement of location independent remote workers. We have people from all the big tech companies, from hundreds of startups, and thousands of freelancers who use Nomad List every day to find places to live, work and travel to, and to meet like-minded people there.\n\n[Remote OK](https://nomadlist.co) is the most popular remote jobs board on the web with customers like Y Combinator, Stripe, Intercom, Airtable, Invision and Sketch relying on it for hiring the best remote workers from a worldwide pool of talent. You're on it now and you're the best!\n\nUntil now I ([Pieter Levels](https://twitter.com/levelsio)) have always done everything myself. To take off the load as a founder so I can take a break in 2021 after a years of non-stop working, and [do things a bit more properly](https://levels.io/deviance/), I've started to hire people to replace me.\n\nI'm looking to hire a Product Engineer. With that I mean a generalist software engineer focused on product outcomes rather than any specific part of the stack or language. You need to be more frontend focused than a typical programmer, and re-use any API or backend that exists to get the job done.\n\nThis is a full-time position.\n\n# Responsibilities\n- keep existing features working (we monitor most pages and API endpoints every minute)\n- fix bugs that might come up (we have live PHP/JS bug tracking)\n- build new features, that means coding the client side part of it (usually plain JS or w/ jQuery, but without fancy frameworks), and the back end side of it (usually plain PHP with SQLite)\n- ship fast and iterate based on customer feedback (right now we deploy CI/CD-style about 50 times per day)\n\n# Impact\n- you work on sites that get over 1.4 billion requests per year used by over 1 million people per month\n- you work directly with me (Pieter Levels) and learn how to ship fast with a laser focus on building what customers want while learning how to market those new features directly to an audience\n\n# You should be\n- autonomous and be able to figure things out for yourself, but I might go AWOL for awhile, so you need to make the best choices yourself how to fix something, or how to build a new feature\n- not wanting to do things the proper overengineering way with Kubernetes clusters and Docker and multi layered sharded databases to scale like in BigCo tech enterprise; doing things proper is good but making customer's happy is the #1 priority, quickly made scrappy code can always be refactored later if a feature starts making money, instead of proper code that took a long time to write for a feature that nobody ends up using\n\n# You'll work in a team with\n- a Site Reliability Engineer, who keeps the sites up\n- a Community Manager, who keeps the Nomad List community safe\n- a Customer Service Specialist, who keeps our customers happy\n\n\n\n#Location\n🌏 Worldwide

VertiStudio is a distributed [team](https://themeisle.com/about-us/) of more than 20 people all over the world ( Romania, Poland, Greece, Portugal & more), together we run a [profitable](https://www.romanian-companies.eu/vertigo-studio-srl-29109287/) and bootstrapped business for more than 9 years. \n\nWe’re not serial entrepreneurs and we don’t think we are the biggest, brightest developers tackling the biggest technical challenges on the planet. \n\nBut we think companies have unique DNA; VertiStudio is our means to express ourselves in our professional lives. \n\nWhat makes us different?\n\nIt’s not a product, a methodology, or a one-page manifesto.\n\nIt’s through hundreds of little things that we’re different. \n\n**What will you be working on?**\n\nIt depends on your interests & experience. \n\nWe have 3 major projects: [Neve](https://themeisle.com/themes/neve/), [Optimole](https://optimole.com/) & [our own sites](https://vertistudio.com/#vertistudio-portfolio),  our products are being used by around 1 million people & our content sites reach half a million people every month. You will be the technical lead for one of these major projects. \n\nHow will you get there?\n\nWe’d start with a short 2-week trial when you’ll identify some things that can be improved and start improving them immediately.\n\nSee, we’re looking for someone who can teach us something & take our team on the next technical level.\n\n**What kind of people thrive here?**\n\nWhen I’m thinking about technical people, the ones that thrive are those that don’t like doing the same thing twice. \n\nThey’re independent. They like to get to the bottom of the problem. They use the latest technologies, but they’re realistic enough to figure out how it fits the project.\n\nTake this example: https://github.com/Codeinwp/neve/issues/1989 \n\nOr the time an intern used a small internal hackathon as an opportunity to learn a new programming language by asking “can the blocks be made in exotic programming languages like PureScript, F# with Fable or Elm?”\n\nFor this particular role, you’ll need to understand WordPress really really well, have experience in leading a small team or at least running a major project on your own & have strong PHP & Javascript knowledge.\n\n**How to apply?**\n\nUse the form below and clearly state in a written or video form : \n\n* Your experience with WordPress development.\n\n* What is your favorite code performance tweak & show us some code you’ve written that you’re proud of if possible\n\n* Tell us a bit about yourself and why you should be considered.\n\n* Profile links with code samples (GitHub, GitLab, WordPress.org, etc).\n\n* Other profile links if available (Your website, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc).\n\n* A technical improvement that you’ll do on https://github.com/Codeinwp/neve\n\n* For the input field asking if you agree, the answer is **themeisle**. Unfortunately 90% of the people doesn't seem to read this.\n\nPlease take your time to go through those and answer carefully, we don’t have a long interview process, nor any technical tests per se, we’ll need those answers and references to go through them and figure out your technical skills.\n\nNote: I won’t be able to individually respond to all applications, if you’re a match we’ll reach out.\n\nWhat does the process look like?\n\nIf you seem to be the right person, I will reach out to you for a quick 30’ meeting.  I would like to learn more about what you are looking for and answer your questions, alternatively, we can do this via text as well. \n\nIf we agree to move forward, then the next step would be a chat with [Marius](https://github.com/selul), our CTO, about the technical work you’ve done and what you would like to do.\n\nIf this goes well, we’d move into the 2-week paid trial to see how things would work.\n\nIf this goes well, you’re hired. \n\n#Salary\n$60,000 — $120,000\n\n\n#Location\n🌏 Worldwide

For example, by improving our handbook at [https://handbook.interaction-design.org](https://handbook.interaction-design.org). Or use our library of evergreen literature on back-end and front-end subjects to broaden your horizon.\n\n**You and our future-proof stack**\n\n* We seek a balance between sticking with what works and fearlessly exploring the new.\n* We use the latest stable version of PHP 7 because it allows us to write better code using features like strict type declarations, typed class properties and arrow functions.\n* We leverage the elegance, simplicity and readability of the latest Laravel version.\n* We want to spend our precious time on things that matter the most; that's why we perfect our easy to run development environment with Homestead and custom scripts.\n* We write and run tests with PHPUnit and cypress.io.\n* We have a great set of tools to maintain the code quality and run on CI/CD (psalm (error level 4), rector, phpcs, php-cs-fixer, phpcpd etc.)\n* We use Rector to maintain our code quality.\n* We’re constantly refactoring our front-end code with the goal of reaching front-end heaven:\n * Laravel Blade template engine.\n * PostCSS to maximize the power of modern CSS.\n * Webpack for perfect control over front-end assets.\n * Latest JS with support for ES2020 features. To accomplish this we use the latest Babel releases.\n * BEM/ITCSS in combination with Tailwind CSS based utility classes.\n * A custom-made [design system](https://design-system.interaction-design.org) to achieve consistency and ease of use.\n\nForget IE and clunky workarounds for compatibility with other dinosaur browsers: We spend our time only on modern Web APIs since we only support evergreen browsers.\n\nWe ❤ CI (Continuous Integration) and CD (Continuous Delivery) so we usually deploy a few releases per day: Zero downtime. Just a few buttons to push. No sweaty palms.\n\nWe care deeply about Developer Experience (DX) of our codebase and tools. DX and DevOps is our middle name: Git, GitHub, HTTP/2, Assets CDN, AWS, Enterprise SSDs on our high-spec servers, and much more.\n\n**About you**\n\n* You have expert knowledge of PHP.\n* You have expert knowledge of Laravel or Symfony.\n* You have experience with test-driven development (TDD).\n* You have 6+ years of experience working professionally with OOP.\n* Your work is based on a solid foundation in computer science fundamentals from data structures and algorithms to design patterns.\n* You are an engineer by mindset and always try to understand how things work under the hood.\n* You have substantial experience working with RESTful web services and ORM concepts.\n* You love to learn through doing. # About the Job\nDo you program web applications? Do you want to work from the comfort of your home? Do you prefer prototyping versus being handed a huge technical document? Do you want your opinion to matter?\n\nWe are a fast-growing tech company with decades of domain experience in agriculture and farm management. We're a small team of highly driven, hard-working folks who love the work we do and are excited about growing our company together.\n\nWe are looking for a jack-of-all-trades to work with us as we continue to evolve our enterprise SaaS stack in the agriculture sector. The right candidate will need to do everything from server maintenance to backend development to frontend. You will be working under the CTO, giving advice and using your expertise to build simple but powerful tools for our customers.\n\nOur software includes a frontend management and reporting interface, a dashboard system with even more reporting and graphing, an API, and a mobile app that allows farm workers in the field to manage their work and keep records. The system has been in continuous development for over 10 years, and is regularly in use by many users, so a mind for backwards compatibility is a must. The development style is a prototyping and iterating approach, with a goal of creating components that can be reused in a variety of different contexts and for a variety of different purposes. This approach has allowed us to build software that makes it simple and intuitive for our users to capture data, but can turn simple data into rich and complex analysis and reporting that can drive critical business processes and decisions.\n\n\n# Required Qualifications\n* Ability to set up your local working environment (LAMP-based stack)\n* Ability to communicate in English\n* Ability to work independently – which includes knowing when and how to ask questions about proper\narchitecture and domain knowledge\n* Knowledge of design patterns and object oriented programming\n* Knowledge of SCCS (Subversion)\n* Knowledge of ES6\n* Knowledge of Ember/React/Angular javascript framework\n* Knowledge of SASS\n* Knowledge of Responsive Design\n* Knowledge of PHP 5.4 and 7.2\n* Knowledge of PHP MVC frameworks (Symfony)\n* Knowledge of REST\n* Knowledge of relational databases and the ability to write stored procedures (MySQL)\n* Knowledge of NoSQL databases (CouchDB)\n* Experience with ACLs/RBLs\n\n\n# Optional Qualifications\n* Experience with GPS / geolocation, mapping, geofencing or similar\n* Experience integrating with third party systems\n* Experience with inventory management\n* Knowledge of Klipfolio or similar dashboarding environments\n* Knowledge of D3 or similar data visualization technologies\n* Knowledge of CSS animations\n* Knowledge of Cordova\n* Knowledge of Responsive Design\n\n\n# The benefits of working at AgSquared\n* Competitive salary\n* Flexible working hours\n* Work from home – or from anywhere in the world\n* Work in a scrum team\n* An opportunity to learn new technologies and learn about the agricultural domain\n\n#Location\n🌏 Worldwide

Our team's family time is important; we won't typically require long hours when we can avoid it, which is almost always. Our entire team works remotely using Slack for casual interaction, so you can live practically anywhere in the World if you have an Internet connection. We’re Dashwork Studio, a small remote team of 4, spread across India, Greece, and Portugal. We make great stuff with WordPress.\n\n[Codestag](https://codestag.com/) — A premium WordPress theme shop where we create handy, user-friendly and modern WordPress themes. We sell themes across our own website, ThemeForest (Envato), and WordPress.com\n\n[AnalogWP](https://analogwp.com/) – At AnalogWP, we offer a free/premium plugin called “Style Kits” for Elementor page builder. Style Kits offers additional global controls over Elementor along with a set of templates, blocks, and theme style kits.\n\nWe’re currently looking for someone to extend features for Analog and maintain Codestag, and build fast, secure, and maintainable code in PHP.\n\nYou’re a passionate developer who respects old code no matter how ugly it looks. You enjoy figuring out how an old code base works, refactoring it and taking on the challenges that come with it. You’ll have the opportunity to share your ideas openly and learn from others.\n\nYou own your successes and failures. When a project you’re leading turns into a disaster, you own it and you learn from it. You never point the finger at others.\n\nYou’re able to work with little to no supervision and not afraid to ask for help when needed. You can do your best work in isolation without interruption and can formulate a plan of action.\n\nOur plugins are built on top of WordPress. We follow a superset of the WordPress coding standards and actively invest in tooling & testing to improve both the quality of our products and the happiness of our team building them.\n\n# Responsibilities\n Your primary role would be to extend and maintain features at our [Style Kits](https://wordpress.org/plugins/analogwp-templates/) plugin, but not limited to that. You’ll also be maintaining the backend for Style Kits template publishing, maintaining themes at [Codestag](https://codestag.com/) and product support for Style Kits (all of us do it, as it helps understand the product better and gives a chance to know the end-users).\n\nI need a talented developer to take over the development of Style Kits plugin. I will be reviewing your pull requests myself. Style Kits makes heavy use of both PHP and React, so you must be experienced with that.\n\nWe're also planning on creating some WooCommerce extensions in near future. So experience in that area will be preferred. \n\n# Requirements\n\n\n* Excited to work in a team-oriented environment with an emphasis on growing and helping one another\n\n* Able to translate technical descriptions into detailed engineering implementation tasks\n\n* Detail-oriented & curious, with a drive to understand and solve technical challenges\n\n* A self-starter, able to work in a remote environment without constant supervision\n\n* Committed to constant improvement, learning, sharing your knowledge, and building meaningful relationships as a member of a highly efficient, fast-paced team\n\n\n\n\nBonus points if you also have…\n\n\n\n* Experience working with Elementor\n\n* Experience with Automated Testing (PHPUnit/CodeCeption)\n\n* Experience working with WooCommerce\n\n* Experience working with React.js + REST API\n\n* Experience with Gutenberg\n\n\n\n\n#Location\nIndia

\n ABOUT US\n\nWe're looking for a new teammate in our lean company (33 people from 16 different countries, 45% engineers), and give you the opportunity to be part of a fascinating journey. We’ve seen incredible growth over the last 9 years (the apps in our portfolio have been downloaded 100M times) – driven by a talented and versatile yet small team. It worked well so far, but now we want more.\n\n\n\n ABOUT THE ROLE\n\nYou are a Senior Backend Engineer PHP (f/m/d) with strong experience, and you will be an essential part of our bootstrapped and 100% remote company with a flat organizational structure. The position is full-time. This is an excellent career opportunity to join a fast-growing company in a key position.\n\n\n\n WE OFFER YOU\n\n\n* a great work-life balance - work whenever you want from wherever you are. Results - not hours. We care about what you achieve.\n\n* no bullshit - we are a fact- and engineering-driven company (including the founders)\n\n* to work on something important. A lot of businesses say they change lives, but we actually do it. We've helped millions of people find love and happiness.\n\n* 30 days paid vacation\n\n* a competitive salary\n\n\n\n\n\n\n YOU WILL\n\n\n* work on the backend for our award-winning apps that are used by millions of users on a monthly basis\n\n* be part of our cross-functional product scrum team that is responsible for the backend of the mobile app, and service architecture\n\n* work on the mobile apps API, data processing, and interfacing with different components of the Joyride platform and external services\n\n* take ownership of features, tools, and services\n\n* work agile with a motivated and innovative lean team of experts (including us, the two founders)\n\n\n\n\n\n\n REQUIREMENTS\n\nAn ideal candidate is autonomous, proactive, and has experience working in a variety of different platforms and technologies. We admire engineers who take the initiative, make their own decisions, and implement them precisely. We're a bootstrapped company that doesn't have millions in VC funding to drive growth at all costs. We're building a sustainable, long-term company that our users love, and we love working for.\n\n\n\n YOU\n\n\n* have SOLID programming skills in PHP7. Many core services are written in PHP, newer services also in Kotlin (with Spring Boot). Bonus: You have experience with reactor-pattern implementations, ideally amphp.\n\n* are not intimidated by distributed services like Cassandra or Kafka\n\n* already packaged and deployed applications with Docker and Kubernetes\n\n* are not stuck with a certain language or framework, and you have experience in other programming languages like JavaScript, Java, Kotlin, Python, etc.\n\n* love getting things done - You never give up, when it’s getting difficult. It’s a challenge to master every situation.\n\n* are self-motivated, and comfortable working remotely with the minimal direction\n\n* preferably have experience working on a mobile app with a large userbase\n\n* you speak and write business-fluent English\n\n\n\n\nIf this profile matches your expertise, experience, and aspirations, we’d be delighted to receive your full application, including references and your portfolio.

\nNOTE: This is a remote position. \n\nDefiant is a small, dynamic, fast-growing, and profitable company with loyal customers who love our products and services. We are the global leader in WordPress security, protecting over 3 million websites.\n\nAre you excited about working for a technology company that is securing the web? Are you looking for full-time, flexible hours* working remotely from anywhere in the UK, Canada, United States, Australia, or New Zealand? If so, this may be your dream job! \n\n*Required core hours of 10am - 2pm Pacific Time\n\nCompany Culture\n\nYou'll work with a talented and highly-motivated team that is friendly, fast-moving, self-managing, and highly capable with a sense of humor. Our team's family time is important; we won't typically require long hours when we can avoid it, which is almost always. Our entire team works remotely using Slack for casual interaction, so you can live practically anywhere in the World if you have an Internet connection. There's no micro-management here—we trust that you will see tasks through to completion and communicate with your fellow team members when needed or ask for help when needed.\n\nAt Defiant, ‘trust’ is the attribute we value most highly among our team members. We need to know that you can grab a task, communicate clearly with stakeholders, and see the task to completion with superb attention to detail.\n\nWe use apps like Slack, FogBugz, GitHub, and Google Apps for our workflow.\n\nRequirements\n\nWe must be able to trust that you can grab a bug, do a great job of implementing the required code and do it in a way that is scalable, secure, bug free and maintainable. Our release tempo is frequent, and we put a premium on our team being able to produce well engineered software. We're not a bureaucracy. The code you write will be deployed in short order on over 3 million websites and we need to ensure that our team continues to provide the high standard of engineering our customers have become accustomed to.\n\nThe specific skills we require for this position are:\n\n\n* Significant development experience with PHP. You've written code that is not only secure but scales to a large number of users. Experience with Laravel is a strong plus.\n\n* Production experience with MySQL. You've designed database schemas with an emphasis on scalability and performance.\n\n* Experience working with large amounts of frequently updated data, and designing efficient schemas, is a plus.\n\n* Experience with Apache, NGINX, HAProxy, and/or OpenResty. You've built apps on a LAMP/LEMP stack.\n\n* Experience with HTML, CSS, and JS. Vue.js and/or Node.js experience is a strong plus.\n\n* Working knowledge of Git and GitHub. You've collaborated with other developers on a project on GitHub.\n\n* Experience using Linux systems. You're comfortable using the command line to troubleshoot issues on a server.\n\n* Experience with AWS. You've built apps that run and scale in AWS.\n\n* Understanding of common web vulnerabilities. You're able to identify vulnerabilities through code reviews.\n\n* Experience with WordPress. You've written custom code that utilizes the WordPress API.\n\n* A keen interest in infosec. Credentials like Security+, CISSP or other is a strong plus.\n\n* Knowledge of other languages a strong plus.\n\n\n\n\nAll positions require a trial period of approximately 2-3 weeks with a minimum commitment of 10 hours per week. You will be paid for this short-term contract, and it will be used to evaluate whether both parties want to pursue an ongoing, regular employment relationship.\n\nAll offers of employment are contingent on successful completion of a background check. The results of the background check are considered as they relate to the position and do not automatically disqualify someone from a offer of employment with the company.\n\nBenefits\n\n\n* Full time telecommuting and flexible working hours, with a company that has been 100% remote for over 5 years.\n\n* 100% employee premium and 50% of dependent premium paid by company for premier- level medical, dental, and vision insurance.\n\n* 21 days PTO per year to start.\n\n* 401(k) with a 4% Safe Harbor company match that is 100% vested immediately.\n\n* Latest in laptop and workstation technology.\n\n* Fitness stipend for a local gym membership or home fitness equipment.\n\n* Paid training and study time for work-related training and certifications.\n\n* College tuition reimbursement.\n\n\n\n\nDiversity at Defiant\n\nWe value diversity and do not discriminate based on race, color, religion or creed, national origin or ancestry, sex, age, physical or mental disability, military or veteran status, gender identity or expression, marital status, sexual orientation, political ideology, economic status, parental status, or any other non-performance-related status.

\nWordPress doesn’t try to keep its users inside walled gardens, a rare thing in a world that is dangerously moving away from the open web. Instead, WordPress gives them the freedom to build a business website, an online store, or a personal blog – the way they like it. Big sites or small, using the community-run open-source project or Automattic’s WordPress.com, vanilla or customized with hundreds of plugins, WordPress users always get to own and control their data, their expression, and their freedom.\n\nWhat have we worked on recently?\n\n\n* Gutenberg is a new block-level editor with clean abstractions for users, too, not just developers.\n\n* Jetpack is a plugin that brings cloud-scale features to self-hosted sites and our latest addition is Rewind, think git for WordPress sites.\n\n* WooCommerce is the most popular e-commerce platform on the web.\n\n* To view more of our recent work, check out our longer product list on Automattic.com.\n\n\n\n\nHow do we work?\n\n\n* We’re kind to each other and our users – we strive to build a positive, supportive, and inclusive culture of cohesive teams focused on delivering value to our customers.\n\n* We work as a global and distributed workforce resulting in a unique way of working built around our creed. \n\n* We offer flexible work arrangements allowing our team members to work when they feel best.\n\n* We open-source! We’re cool with open-sourcing everything except passwords, or secret keys.\n\n* We ship often, deploying many times daily with the help of peer code review, continuous integration, and our global workforce in over 70 countries.\n\n* We welcome collaboration, and you can be involved in any discussion across our many communication channels.\n\n\n\n\nEnough about us, let‘s talk more about you. The Software Engineer position might be a good fit if you:\n\n\n* Have production experience with several programming languages. We mostly use PHP and JavaScript at Automattic – you should either be familiar with them already or the idea of using them on a daily basis should not be a blocker for you.\n\n* Have experience working on a large-scale system. Making it faster, more scalable, and fault-tolerant.\n\n* Know about systems architecture.\n\n* Are highly collaborative and you love participating in code reviews and discussions about architecture, or design.\n\n* Are passionate about and experienced in software development; in particular, advanced PHP knowledge is a plus.\n\n* Are knowledgeable about design patterns and testability; having experience with testing frameworks, performance testing, and unit testing is very welcome.\n\n* Are thoughtful about product design, with good user experience instincts.\n\n* Are open and able to travel 3-4 weeks per year to meet up with your teammates in person. \n\n\n\n\nExtra credit:\n\n\n* WordPress programming experience.\n\n* Open-source contributions or contributions to programs designed to help underrepresented people enter the tech field.\n\n* Experience working on accessibility.\n\n* Familiarity with JavaScript.\n\n* Data analysis experience, and understanding of how analytics can help with product decisions.\n\n* Knowledge of tooling and build systems.\n\n\n\n\nSpeaking of interests and skills, here are some areas in which you can grow and have further impact in the future at the company:\n\n\n* Leadership – we offer a variety of leadership options to those who have an interest, including becoming a team lead and managing releases.\n\n* Learning and development – we have a generous personal development budget and encourage you to grow your skills through courses, books, and conferences.\n\n* Architecture – we encourage developers to develop expertise in the systems they work with, guide their evolution and mentor other developers working on them.\n\n* Engineering effectiveness – we believe in helping other developers become more effective through tools, practices, cross-team collaborations, and process improvements.\n\n\n\n\nThese are exciting times at Automattic and you’ll have a unique opportunity to shape the future of our products. Join us! We look forward to hearing from you.\n\nCurious who works in engineering at Automattic? Meet our Code Wranglers – Brandon, Jeremy, Mark, Jennifer, Roy, and Kat!\n\nWhat to Expect\n \n We know applying to jobs can be stressful and we want to ease the stress by giving clear expectations upfront about our process. We’ve outlined everything you need to know here including all of the steps in the process as well as how we approach hiring. We’re always iterating so if you happen to join us in the process, please feel free to offer feedback on what else we can include there!\n\nHow to apply? \n\nHead directly to our website and read the instructions to apply there!

\nScalable Path is looking for a Senior Full-Stack PHP Developer with modern MVC Framework expirience to join the team and work on a client project. This is a remote, full-time position.\n\nCLIENT COMPANY DESCRIPTION:\nThe client company is a membership organisation which provides country sports insurance and other benefits to members in the UK and Ireland. The company and its first club were established in 2008 and sister club was launched in 2017. They are looking to streamline the purchase process and improve overall user experience to encourage new members and maintain existing members. They also want to improve their search rankings by ensuring the new site is optimised to help potential customers find them, and relevant information about their products, quickly and easily.\n\nDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:\nYou will be tasked with developing two new websites from scratch (and potentially maintain them in the future)\n\nBoth websites are for clubs which require a membership database, members area with login, e-commerce and an admin control panel to manage memberships / purchases etc. There are various referral forms and a member’s benefits page which needs to have an interface for Trade Associates to upload details of special offers to members - this needs an approval system. There are lots more unique elements which require additional features for specific types of memberships/sales and, although functionality is broadly similar across the two sites, the second club also requires some extra functionality not required in the first.\n\nFeatures they do not currently have and would like to introduce include optional recurring / automated renewal and payments, means to purchase multiple memberships in a single transaction, claims forms and claims management in the admin panel, ability to attach uploaded files to a member's record, ability to create custom reports and many more minor tweaks.\n\nThe current websites have been built (and built upon) by their in-house web developer. As the company has grown, requirements and systems have changed and the existing database and code is no longer fit for their purpose. They require a full structural review of the database and rebuilding from the ground up to ensure everything is fully cohesive. Existing membership data will need to be migrated into the new database and systems.\n\nOnce the new sites are finished and launched the client will require ongoing maintenance and updates.\n\nRELATIONSHIPS - WHO YOU'LL BE WORKING WITH:\nYou will be reporting to the Managing Director and consulting with existing in house developer (and potentially another freelance developer) as needed. The client is in the Europe/London (+00:00) GMT time zone.\n\nREQUIRED SKILLS:\n- Strong English Communication\n- PHP (Laravel or Symfony experience strongly preferred)\n- JavaScript\n- HTML\n- CSS\n- MySQL\n- Server Configuration and Management in AWS\n- Git\n\nDESIRED (NICE-TO-HAVE) SKILLS:\n- Experience with a modern JavaScript framework like React, Angular or Vue)\n- Payment Gateway Integration experience\n\nSTART DATE:\nMarch 16, 2020\n\nEXPECTED CONTRACT DURATION:\nAbout 6 months but this is flexible. Ongoing maintenance thereafter.\n\nNOTES:\nThe client is open to someone who can start part-time, but with a transition to full-time.\n\nHOURLY RATE:\n\nThe pay rate for this role is from $30 to $50 USD per hour, depending on experience and capability.
