We Are: {linebreak}MageMojo Magento hosting, a group of 35 talented devops peeps who all work remotely. We believe passionate, talented people all working together smoothly yields awesome work that lets us build a solid infra and processes to prevent fires instead of spending time always putting out fires. We get along and we constantly improve only because we don't bullsh!t each other or our clients, we don't hide or say what we think others want to hear. We do this with respect and we value truth, transparency and honesty above all else. Of course there are times when we are in headphones-on, hyper-concentration mode. But we also draw a lot of support from each other and try to focus on the "human side" of support. We are curious students of the internet age who are interested in continuing to enhance our own work, sharing what we've learned, and learning from those around us. {linebreak}{linebreak}You Are: {linebreak}A solid human being with a good sense of humor in search of a job with a crew that is big enough to host important, meaningful sites and small enough to have fun doing it. Attention to detail and a seamless customer experience are important to you. You feel at home in the shell and have some scripting knowledge. You know there's nothing you can't do and no problem you can't solve with the help of the Interwebz, and Google of course. You have strong opinions about the way things should be done but aren't necessarily a zealot for any one process, technology, or denomination. You're inclined to express yourself through animated gifs and obscure movie quotes from the youtubes. You work well at the 11th hour, but even better at the first and second so we can be out at end of shift. You have an ear to the ground for new tech, whether it comes from hacker news or a programming subreddit, and a desire to dive in and try things out. {linebreak}{linebreak}How To Apply: {linebreak}Submit your resume and a few words about yourself, your achievements, what you love most in life, and what you want out of your career. We're not interested in standard issue cover letter babble and HR bubble wrap. Talk to us like a human being who values directness and using your own words. If you need to use a four-letter word to effectively express a previous engagement or an appropriately inappropriate metaphor to describe your ideal work environment, we'll take that over what you would think we typically "need to hear" in a job application. This is a full-time position with benefits and we're open to starting you with a freelance gig if wading into the water is preferred on both sides. Compensation is competitive and commensurate with experience.

Do you love computers? Do you prefer to spend three hours scripting some boring repetitive action than 30 minutes doing it manually? Would you like to work in your pajamas, from anywhere in Australia?{linebreak}{linebreak}Smith Software is a boutique engineering firm that provides remote talent to Silicon Valley companies. One of our clients has asked us to build a DevOps team to support them in their Australian operations, so we're looking for energetic people with the following skills: {linebreak}{linebreak}- Googling StackOverflow{linebreak}- Googling ServerFault{linebreak}- Reading man pages{linebreak}- Rapidly figuring out that the reason why something broke in prod is because some dude maintaining an obscure python dependency decided to change its API without telling anyone{linebreak}- Finding issues like that before they hit prod{linebreak}- Not having an aneurysm when discovering that systemd configuration is in /usr/lib/systemd instead of /etc/systemd{linebreak}- Writing a bash for loop without having to google the syntax (just kidding, even we can barely do this){linebreak}- Being polite to clients{linebreak}- Knowing the differences between TCP, UDP, IP, HTTP, HTTPS, SMTP, POP, PvP, PCP, Elemeno P, etc.{linebreak}- Being courageous enough to occasionally edit things in prod when necessary, but competent enough to not catastrophically break everything{linebreak}- Using vi or one of its descendants{linebreak}{linebreak}No education required, you don't even need to know how to spell! Okay, you need to know how to spell. But enthusiasm and linux wizardry will be accepted in lieu of formal education or work experience. Emacs fanboys will be accepted but forced to assimilate - if you think we're going to be installing emacs on our IoT nodes, you need to seriously reduce your LSD intake. {linebreak}{linebreak}Basically, we're looking for anyone who types 'xargs' in their day-to-day life. If that sounds like you, hit us up! {linebreak}{linebreak}Salary depends on what we can convince the client to pay for you, but if you're good, it should be a lot. We mentioned that they're in Silicon Valley, right?

## **Can you help us automate our infrastructure and build our first SaaS product?**{linebreak}{linebreak}We like to build stuff… sometimes complicated stuff… for Non Profits, Charities and Art Galleries. We’re on the lookout for a confident and ambitious Devops / Sysadmin to join our fast growing startup to help us automate our development processes and build our first SaaS product.{linebreak}{linebreak}We do things a little differently, basing all our solutions on open source products, offer a great work-life balance with flexible working hours and a real team mentality.{linebreak}{linebreak}Our work covers web design, app development and branding for Charities and non-profit organisations across the country. Our clients include Charities such as Wikimedia and Farm Africa, art galleries such as the Photographers Gallery and Craft Central but also companies, trade associations and government bodies. We mainly work on the Drupal platform, but someone with a wide range of interests would be favourable.{linebreak}{linebreak}We are looking for someone to join the team with the vision to help us automate our infrastructure so that everything runs like clockwork. That will involve:{linebreak}{linebreak}- Automating tasks such as security and deployment releases, site updates and server maintenance using tools such as Jenkins, Chef, Puppet, Ansible etc{linebreak}- Maintaining and developing our Docker containers for developer environments and testing environments{linebreak}- Be a key architect in helping us to develop a robust SaaS platform for a really significant Drupal project for the not for profit sector that we are currently working on.{linebreak}- Integrating with Slack/Hipchat/Stride and developing an inhouse Hubot (or similar).{linebreak}- Develop command line tools to simplify developer tasks such as cloning client sites to local environments.{linebreak}- There will also be the opportunity to get involved with data migration, data integration, database tuning and management and the ideal candidate would have existing MySQL (or similar) experience.{linebreak}{linebreak}If you live and breath Linux and love reconfiguring Web servers for the LEMP/LAMP stack until they are as secure as a rock but would also enjoy the challenge of developing a new SaaS platform on AWS then we would love to hear from you.{linebreak}{linebreak}**Skills and requirements**{linebreak}{linebreak}Key skills we are looking for are:{linebreak}{linebreak}– Excellent Linux administration skills.{linebreak}– PHP Web server experience (NGINX preferable, Apache useful).{linebreak}– Some DB admin experience (Mysql or equivalent).{linebreak}– Experience with cloud technologies AWS/Open stack.{linebreak}– Previous experience with CI/DevOps tools platforms (i.e. Jenkins, Chef, Puppet, Ansible).{linebreak}– Good Git skills (comfortable preparing release branches).{linebreak}– Previous PHP deployment automation desirable.{linebreak}– Some experience/Knowledge in monitoring tools.{linebreak}– Strong collaboration, written and verbal skills.{linebreak}– Love creating awesome documentation!{linebreak}{linebreak}What were looking for is someone who can grasp concepts quickly, has great attention to detail, and most importantly loves a tech challenge. In short, we’re a team of self confessed geeks who love tinkering and tweaking until something is just right and are looking for someone who thinks and acts like us.{linebreak}{linebreak}**Location**{linebreak}{linebreak}At Compucorp we are a distributed team and we welcome people to join us from all around the world, however as a UK based Company some overlap with UK hours will be required. By default you should assume that your working hours would be +/- 3h max from GMT start times of 9.00AM UK start time. There is some flexibility in this but please be aware that staff members starting outside of these hours are rare and as such if you would expect these hours to be an issue for you then we would not suggest that you apply. {linebreak}{linebreak}For the Devops role, due to EU data protection requirements, the team member must be from either an EEA country or a country that the EU considers to have adequate level of data protection. The list can be found at the link below:{linebreak}{linebreak}https://ico.org.uk/for-organisations/guide-to-data-protection/principle-8-international#eea-countries

Sr. Platform Engineer - DevOps{linebreak}{linebreak}{linebreak}Are you a Sr. DevOps Engineer obsessed with building high traffic Linux-based cloud infrastructure, mobile technologies and committed to automation? Still looking for a REAL DevOps Role? Then here is your chance to shape the direction of a company at the forefront of the mobile revolution!{linebreak}{linebreak}{linebreak}Moovweb’s cloud-based platform delivers experiences optimized for any device. As the fastest-growing mobile solution, Moovweb allows companies to launch new experiences fast, iterate often, and deliver better mobile experiences. Headquartered in San Francisco, Moovweb powers experiences for market leaders including Nordstrom, Macy's, AIG, Kaiser, Fairmont, and Campbell's. Currently Moovweb powers over 200 mobile experiences, delivering to 60 million mobile users every month.{linebreak}{linebreak}{linebreak}We’re looking for talented individuals ready to do the best work of their lives and solve hard problems at scale (hundreds of servers) in high-traffic PaaS/SaaS infrastructure. Working on our DevOps Team you will be bridging Dev and Ops to collaborate at the core of what makes Moovweb successful - the cloud platform that serves up over 6 billion mobile requests every month.{linebreak}{linebreak}{linebreak}We work on a platform that was built for the cloud, from the cloud, and by people committed to automation like you. Along your journey spanning through Dev and Ops, you’ve spent at least 2-5 years mastering Unix Systems Administration (AWS/EC2) in a production environment with lots of traffic (hundreds of millions of page views). You have incredibly strong automation (Puppet) and scripting skills (Python/Perl). Programming (Ruby, C) is a walk in the park. You likely have experience with TCP/IP/HTTP protocols as well as backend technologies and common DevOps tools (Apache, MySQL, Nginx, Varnish, HAproxy, Nagios). But don’t get too hung up on the tech stack - we're not. Having experience with some of those technologies is great, but we are primarily interested in your intelligence and hire SMART people.{linebreak}{linebreak}{linebreak}In addition to technical excellence, we value engineers that embody these qualities:{linebreak}{linebreak}{linebreak}Passion. You feel ownership of everything you work on and do what it takes to get things right. You routinely go beyond what’s ‘normal’ for your role and push yourself to get better at what you do.{linebreak}{linebreak}{linebreak}Flexibility. You’re ready to learn and iterate rapidly in terms of technology, product and process.{linebreak}{linebreak}{linebreak}Fearless. You view challenges as opportunities, and embrace them. You learn from failures and move on.{linebreak}{linebreak}{linebreak}Biased to Action. You jump into ambiguous issues and help define the path forward.{linebreak}{linebreak}{linebreak}{linebreak}Being at the forefront of the mobile revolution isn’t enough? Here at Moovweb we offer a fun office environment in one of the best locations in Downtown San Francisco with easy Bart/Caltrain access. Other benefits include 401(k) plan, full medical/dental/vision package, and an unlimited vacation policy.{linebreak}{linebreak}If you are ready to do the best work of your life and shape the mobile revolution, Apply Now!{linebreak}{linebreak}We are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity at our company. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.{linebreak}{linebreak}Extra tags: Puppet, Linux, AWS, Perl

Ideal Candidate{linebreak}We're interested in someone comfortable with a generalist and devops role. You should be knowledgeable of standard system administration tasks and have a firm understanding of the role of load balancers and cluster architecture. It's 100x harder to write code if you don't know how the underlying operating system works.{linebreak}We're looking for someone with a legitimate passion for technology, big data, and analyzing vast amounts of content.{linebreak}We are also looking for people outside of the U.S. and Canada to maximize our time zone distribution. Ideally there should be least a 4 hour overlap with the Pacific Standard Time Zone (PST / UTC-8). We're based out of San Francisco but are migrating to the international level. If you don't have a natural time overlap with UTC-8 you should be willing to work evenings to be able to communicate easily with the rest of the team.{linebreak}Culturally, we’re a remote company and want to embrace it as a way to reward our employees. We are fine with you working in remote locations as long as you’re generally available for communication and are productive.{linebreak}We want someone to come in full time in a contractor role. We will need about 40 hours from you per week. {linebreak}Job Responsibilities:{linebreak}Understanding our crawler infrastructure and ensuring top quality metadata for our customers. There's a significant batch job component to analyze the output from the crawl to ensure top quality data.{linebreak}Making sure our infrastructure is fast, reliable, fault tolerant, etc. At times this may involve diving into the source of tools like ActiveMQ, Cassandra and understand how the internals work. We contribute a LOT to Open Source development if our changes need to be given back to the community.{linebreak}Building out new products and technology that will directly interface with customers. This includes cool features like full text search, analytics, etc. It's extremely rewarding to build something from ground up and push it to customers directly. {linebreak}Architecture:{linebreak}Our infrastructure consists of Java on Linux (Debian/Ubuntu) with the stack running on ActiveMQ, Cassandra, Zookeeper, and Jetty. We use Ansible to manage our boxes. We have a full-text search engine based on Elasticsearch, and store our firehose API data within Cassandra.{linebreak}We have a totally new stack and infrastructure at this point. We recently did a full-stack rewrite and moved all the old code to our new infrastructure. This means we have very little legacy cruft to deal with.{linebreak}Here's all the cool stuff you get to play with:{linebreak}Large Linux / Ubuntu cluster running with the OS versioned using both Ansible and our own debian packages for software distribution.{linebreak}Massive amount of data indexed from the web and social media. We index from 5-20TB of data per month and want to expand to 100TB of data per month.{linebreak}Large Cassandra install on SSD. {linebreak}SOLR / Elasticsearch migration / install. We’re experimenting with bringing this up now so it would be valuable to get your feedback.{linebreak}Technical Skills:{linebreak}Here's where you shine! we're looking for someone with a number of the following requirements:{linebreak}Linux. Linux. Linux. Did I say Linux? We like Linux.{linebreak}Experience in modern Java development and associated tools.{linebreak}Maven, IntelliJ IDEA, Guice (dependency injection){linebreak}A passion for testing, continuous integration, and continuous delivery.{linebreak}Cassandra. Stores content indexed by our crawler.{linebreak}ActiveMQ. Powers our queue server for scheduling crawl work.{linebreak}A general understanding and passion for distributed systems.{linebreak}Ansible or equivalent experience with configuration management.{linebreak}Standard web API use and design. (HTTP, JSON, XML, HTML, etc).{linebreak}Cultural Fit:{linebreak}We’re a lean startup and very driven by our interaction with customers, as well as their happiness and satisfaction. Our philosophy is that you shouldn’t be afraid to throw away a week's worth of work if our customers aren’t interested in moving in that direction.{linebreak}We hold the position that our customers are 1000x smarter than we are and we try to listen to them intently, and consistently.{linebreak}Proficiency in English is a requirement. Since you will have colleagues in various countries with various primary language skills we all need to use English as our common company language. You must also be able to work with email, draft proposals, etc. Internally we work as a large distributed Open Source project and use tools like traditional email, Slack, Google Hangouts, and Skype.{linebreak}Familiarity working with a remote team and ability (and desire) to work for a virtual company. {linebreak}Should have a home workstation, fast Internet access, etc.{linebreak}Must be able to manage your own time and your own projects. {linebreak}Self-motivated employees will fit in well with the rest of the team.{linebreak}It goes without saying but being friendly and a team player is very important.{linebreak}{linebreak}{linebreak}Extra tags: Linux. Linux. Linux. Did I say Linux? We like Linux. Experience in modern Java development and associated tools. Maven, IntelliJ IDEA, Guice (dependency injection) A passion for testing, continuous integration, and continuous delivery. Cassandra. Stores content indexed by our crawler. ActiveMQ. Love devops and want to contribute to the development of a platform-as-a-service? Primarily, we need help supporting our customers, who are running common Linux-based stacks on virtual machines (AWS). In between support tasks, there's an opportunity to assist with platform engineering tasks, which mostly involve infrastructure and container (Docker) management tools, software-defined networking, and more fun stuff, all within a heavily regulated (HIPAA) and high security context. Initial commitment requires 10-20 hours per week, with possible ramp-up down the road. You have the option to work on-site in our Nashville office, 100% remotely, or a combination of both. Compensation is based on an hourly rate (DOE). Interviews will be conducted through video chat.
