We are fast growing startup, building an awesome product. We are looking for full stack Ruby on Rails developers to help shape and take part in the process.

This month

Kundi is looking for a bright and motivated engineer, of any gender or age, with a mind wide open and tendency to constantly feed inner curiosity that motivates investigation and discoveries. We're looking for someone who's over with working in places where they offer ping-pong and foosball tables as a compensation for bad work morale.

Even though the company wishes to remain small, we are ready to accept another computer poet amongst us. Our mission is creating tools that help our users win with providing sophisticated tracking tools for their websites.

Our methods at work include a variety of approaches that allow expressing diverse combinations of both brain hemispheres: from machine learning, highly scalable concurrent systems, building server infrastructures, designing data storages and flows, tuning controllers and models in the backend, to scheming and implementing user interfaces with the ease of use in mind in the frontend.

Our main technological stack is Ruby on Rails, Ember.js, Scala, Elixir, Postgres. You should be well acquainted with at least one of these technologies.

We're offering a full remote position and a work schedule that is truly flexible. You pick your own pay depending on what you think you deserve. We're able to award you with a reasonable monthly payment. To test our compatibility, we'll begin with some real-work test tasks.

The ideal candidate should not be afraid to use fire when needed, but should also know how to fight fire in case of uncontrollable flame. We need somebody who knows how to be pragmatic in given circumstances and apply just the right amount of engineering when solving an issue. Strong opinions are preferred, but even bigger empathy is desired.

Instructions

Send us a cool message. Write some points on why you'd want to join, and what you achieved so far. Provide a related great example of a code (written in ember.js / ruby / javascript) that you're proud of. Generic CVs will be discarded.

  • Integrate data storage solutions, including databases, key-value stores, blob stores, etc.

  • Integrate user-facing elements built by your front-end developer teammates with server side logic.

  • Identify bottlenecks and bugs, and devise solutions to these problems.

  • Help maintain code quality, organization, and automation.

  • Optimize applications for speed and scalability.

  • Collaborate with other team members and stakeholders.

  • Ability to integrate multiple data sources and databases into one system.

  • Understanding of fundamental design principles behind a scalable application.

Codeable

Senior Software Engineer (Ruby, Rails, Postgres)

Codeable

ruby

senior

engineer

dev

ruby

senior

engineer

dev

1mo

Apply

How is this job different?

Well, it's not that different, but people working at Codeable are.

We're a bunch of proud nerds - be it tech, design or business wise - who have a great sense of humour and also manage to get work done.

What do you even do?

Codeable is a leading outsourcing platform in the WordPress market. We're 4 years old and experiencing sustained growth each month since day one. In March 2016, we became profitable which enabled us to buy-back shares from our main Danish investor that summer.

So, we are a premium outsourcing platform for all your WordPress needs. Think UpWork, Elance or oDesk but as a Mercedes-Benz (great quality and very reliable). We actually interview people (freelancers) who want to work for us, check their coding skills and equally importantly their communication skills. We turndown 97% of all applicants, so the ones we have working through our system are the real deal. We currently have 255+ WordPress developers on our team and adding more every week.

Quality is the DNA of our service and we're well known for our awesome customer support. We’re in fact replying all tickets in less than 3 min in average (we had 21,900 customer support replies the last 90 days). Our experts are all following our strict guidelines and they are only taking on projects they know they can solve. We’re turning down 40% of all projects posted but 98% of all completed projects get rated with highest rates and we have more than 78% returning clients.

We currently have around 10 permanently involved people (programmers, marketing ...) a few working for us part time (UX, Design) and 2-3 agencies to whom we outsource some development and marketing stuff. That said, we are currently lacking power in the backend/API "department".

What am I going to do?

The things you do the best. We believe that we can get the best out of our people if we focus on the things they do best. If chosen, you will have a month-long (or two month) testing period where we see how you fit in the team and how you perform at your work.

Proactive approach is most wanted since we're not a big company and we don't have a development/programming department. Meaning if you see something that should be fixed or made better and you can do it, then do it.

If you know you can improve something, just do it.

Now to the real business...

Our backend code needs a bit of a "face-lift" and some optimization and refactoring. At the same time, we would like to change a bit how we are building our application.

We are very keen on approaches that would allow us to extract some of the code from Rails so we could manage it better and at the same time speed up our most valuable tests.

We're not aiming for the "big rewrite". What we have in mind is a gradual approach to improving our code. An evolution of some kind.

What do I need?

  • Experience of growing and sustaining software over several years
  • Solid knowledge of Ruby
  • Solid knowledge of Rails
  • Productive with CI and continuous deployment
  • Understanding of REST
  • Experience in designing and implementing APIs
  • Great relationship with Git (we use feature branches approach)
  • Previous experience with refactoring code (preferably not just your own)
  • Curious gene (you have to love testing new stuff and doubting and improving old)
  • Openness to other platforms and approaches/methodologies

What will make me cut the hiring line? (Any of the skills below so we can become more cross-functional)
  • Extraordinary refactoring skills
  • Extraordinary speed optimization skills (Rails, PostgreSQL)
  • Some front end development experience (AngularJS, React)
  • Google Cloud (Kubernetes + Docker) knowledge (AWS won’t hurt either)
  • Experience with scaling apps in the cloud
  • Experience with data collection/warehousing/storing for analytics purposes
  • Experience with R and Python for analytics/machine learning/data science
  • Experience writing SQL for analytic purposes

Your responsibilities a bit more detailed

  • Developing new and maintaining existing features
  • Designing and shaping the new version of API (v1 is getting old)
  • Designing, shaping and integrating services in good OO manner
  • Collaborating with frontend developers to find the best solution for improvements or new features
  • Some manual (DB, console, ...) number crunching work to satisfy our spreadsheet gods
  • Helping us all develop a good programming/development culture (freedom of choice and sense of responsibilities/ownership)
  • Participation on dailies (every working day at 10AM (GMT+1)

What am I going to get?

  • An option to work remotely (duh!)
  • Freedom of choice: right tool for the job (but own it - if it breaks it's your responsibility)
  • Flexible working hours: only our 10am daily is mandatory - can be skipped on occasions if requested
  • Competitive salary: If you are that good, then you deserve it!
  • Team building/meetups: Since we're all working remotely we have the need for human touch once in a while, this is when we meet together, eat some nice food, do some cool activities, talk, walk around and work together
  • Working environment where people care about what they do
  • An opportunity to be part of a rapidly growing company, which is changing the world of online outsourcing. The market is enormous and so are the opportunities!

To apply: Send a resume and a cover letter to matjaz@codeable.io with subject "hiring application" and CC sinclair@codeable.io.

Dear programmer who cares about doing meaningful work,

If your dream is to grow a product with a small team that already has its legs under them, and have a big impact on a problem that matters, I’ve got some good news for you…we’re hiring a Rails programmer at Know Your Company.

First, a quick introduction.

My name is Claire Lew, and I’m the CEO of Know Your Company. It’s nice to meet you. My company, Know Your Company, is a tool that helps business owners with 25 to 75 employees get to know their employees better. Companies like Airbnb and Kickstarter use Know Your Company each week to improve their company culture.

Our software was originally built by Basecamp (formerly 37signals) in early 2013. Know Your Company ended up becoming so successful as a product, Basecamp decided to spin it off into its own company. In 2014, I became the new CEO of Know Your Company.

Our mission is to help people become happier at work. We believe this happens when people can communicate openly and honestly at work. As the CEO, this is also my own personal mission. I’ve felt the pain of working in a company where Know Your Company didn’t exist. Since then, I’ve made it my life’s work to help others not feel the same way.

So what’s the job?

You’ll be a one-person product team. As our sole programmer, responsible for building, improving, and maintaining Know Your Company as a product end-to-end. We’ll riff on feature concepts together, drawing from conversations you and I have had with customers. You’ll uncover the underlying jobs-to-be-done in the situations they’re facing and ensure the concepts we’ve discuss align with our overall vision for the product. Then you’ll take those concepts from sketches to code to production. What you ship will be used by over 12,000+ employees in over 15 different countries every single day.

There’s no project manager, no design team, and no user research team here at Know Your Company. It’s you and me thinking, experimenting, playing detective on how to help CEOs and employees get more out of the product. No marching orders here either — it’s us together deciding what to prioritize, what to focus on, and what to improve.

You will also serve as the primary technical caretaker of Know Your Company. You’ll be our only line of defense when it comes to the stability, reliability, and efficiency of Know Your Company running smoothly.

We’d bring you on first as a contractor, to make sure you enjoy working with us and vice versa. Then if it was a good fit, we’d bring you on full-time. Eventually, we’ll hire another full-time designer for you to work alongside with. As the company grows, we’d continue to build a team around you. And if things worked out well, you would grow into a CTO role.

We recently brought on a Head of Business Development Jess Singer a few months ago. Thanks to her, we just had our record high number of sales in December. With your help, we’re excited to build on that momentum in 2017.

Together, we’d grow Know Your Company to be a tool that improves the lives of hundreds of thousands of CEOs, managers, and employees every day.

Who am I looking for exactly?

I’m looking for someone who works fast and smart. Someone who is a clear thinker and communicator. You write clean, tidy code. While you don’t consider yourself a pure designer, you have an eye for design. You’re always up for learning and becoming better in everything you do.

You know what it means to hustle. It doesn’t matter what you’ve studied (or if you graduated from school at all), or how many jobs you’ve worked at previously. All that matters is what you’ve built. It’s likely you’ve shipped your own product (or several). You might’ve even started your own business (or several!). Throughout your life, you’ve noticed that where other people have failed, you’ve succeeded simply because you stick with things longer than most.

You’re a problem-solver at heart. To you, there’s no greater thrill than building something that helps other people. You love the process of taking an idea that’s just written on a sheet of paper, and turning it into something real and useful. You know what it feels like to be obsessed with what you’re doing…and you can’t wait to feel that again.

You exude humility. You never believe you have all the answers, and are the first to admit when you’ve made a mistake. You’re always eager to teach or explain something in a way that’s simple and friendly to others. In fact, your day is made when you watch someone’s face light up when something “clicks” for them, or when you surprise them by doing a favor that makes her or his life a little easier.

Most importantly, you believe in the vision of Know Your Company. You’ve personally felt the pain of communication breakdowns in the workplace. Or you’ve previously had a boss who you never felt comfortable giving feedback to. Either way, you’re passionate about what Know Your Company stands for, and how we can help as many people as possible become happier in the workplace.

I want to hire the best person for this role — so it doesn’t matter where you’re located. If you’re in Chicago, that’s fantastic. But if not, no worries. I’m open to working with you from anywhere. (Being in a North American timezone is preferred though, given how closely you and I will work together).

I’d love to hear from you.

If you’re interested in working together, please send me an email at claire@knowyourcompany.com. Tell me a little bit about yourself, share your personal story, and include any relevant work and links. Writing samples are a plus too.

This is a unique opportunity to shape a product from the first floor and up, and to help solve a significant problem. If you’re the right person for it, I’d be honored if we got to tackle it together.

Looking forward to hearing from you,
-Claire Lew
CEO of Know Your Company

---

If this doesn’t sound quite like you, but someone you might know, please feel free to pass along this post them! And, I’d really appreciate it if you clicked the ❤️ below too… That way, someone who might be a great fit will see this, too. Thank you!

PS: You might recall us hiring for this role a few years ago. Matt, our original programmer and first employee, served this role incredibly well and recently accepted a position as a partner at another company that his friend runs. We’re thrilled for him! And, even though of course we’re bummed he’s leaving Know Your Company, we are excited that this role has opened up to bring in a fresh perspective. Matt will be sticking around a bit to help around with the transition, and even is pitching in to help screen applicants for us. He, Jess, and I look forward to hopefully meeting you 😊

To apply: Please send me an email at claire@knowyourcompany.com. Tell me a little bit about yourself, share your personal story, and include any relevant work and links. Writing samples are a plus too.

  • Deep experience with PostgreSQL or a no-SQL data store, eg MongoDB or Redis

DESCRIPTION

About Veeqo

Veeqo is an award winning high growth tech startup company which has customers around the world and an ambition to become the best software platform for online retailers to manage their business. It helps online retailers sync their stock between their website, retail stores and marketplaces like eBay and Amazon.

Veeqo is growing at an astonishing 300% per year and is expanding globally. Joining Veeqo is a unique opportunity to get involved in a world class start up. Our company is based in London and Swansea and is expanding internationally rapidly ( US, Germany …)

Our position

We need a mid-level Ruby backend developer. In our team, you will grow your skills faster than in any other team; you will learn from the best senior engineers. You will get your code right into production very quickly and see real impact — a task in our team is not complete until a problem of a user is solved in reality.

Job location

We have offices in London, Swansea and shortly Cardiff but some of our team prefer to work remote, which we fully support.

After working with us for some time you will:

  • Know Ruby better than the average Ruby programmer. You will know what implicit context is, the difference between ‘self’ and ‘default definee’ and when exactly these two don’t match. Soon you will know which race conditions are possible despite GIL and what "metaclass of eigenclass is eigenclass of metaclass" really means.
  • Contribute to open-source projects and develop your Github account.
  • Be able to work in a distributed team and become a geographically independent programmer.
  • Juggle git objects with ease and consider even interactive rebases as a daily routine.
  • Know how to monitor production servers and identify real-life problems.

In short, after 2-3 years of working with us you will be much more valuable on the labour market. We specialise in fast growth of junior and middle developers. But don’t forget that greater reward comes with greater risk:

    ----

    REQUIREMENTS

    Who are you ?

  • You're very enthusiastic about programming and have a passion to learn more
  • Ambition and eagerness to learn and improve
  • You want to build a career in a global company
  • You thrive in a fast-growing, always-changing environment
  • You want to be challenged every day

    Technical prerequisites for this job

  • Be confident in the Ruby language, some metaprogramming is required
  • Know how to use RSpec, have a habit of test-driven development
  • Have enough knowledge of Ruby on Rails framework, be able to write a simple CRUD app without googling
  • Know basic git operations

    Our backend technology stack

  • Ruby as an imperative language
  • Elixir as a functional language
  • Rails and Phoenix as web frameworks
  • Postgres as a relational database
  • Redis and Memcache as key-value storages
  • RabbitMQ and Redis as message queueing solutions

What do we (as a development team) practice:

  • TDD (obviously)
  • Continuous integration
  • Continuous delivery
  • Infrastructure as code
  • Well-defined planning process
  • Regular team retrospectives

    ----

    BENEFITS

  • Annual budget for going to conferences or training in Europe
  • Spotify Premium, Private GP and Gym Membership
  • Share option
  • Be part of a fast growth start-up and make a difference
  • We are a relatively small team, your contribution will be significant
  • Our workflow and practices are based on shared culture rather than on red tape
  • Learn more in a few years at Veeqo than you will in any other job
  • Work in a friendly, cross-functional team, with people who aim to be the best and love to tackle problems
  • Relaxed and flexible work environment with free hot and cold drinks, Spotify Premium, private GP and gym membership
  • Remote first - we believe in quality of work, not sitting in an office for 8 hours
  • Explicitly allocated time every week to learn new technologies and hack
  • “The No Asshole” rule is applied

Our microservice architecture of 17 loosely coupled Rails services (http REST, async queuing etc) has been developed for the last 2 years. It's in production, supporting multiple brands and driving millions of dollars of revenue every month from US sales.

This year

What you'll do

You'll collaborate to build, maintain and streamline our large application, working with Ruby, Rails, Postgres and more. Some examples of the work you'll be doing include the following:

continually improving our fetching code, which grabs information about millions of properties throughout each day
integrating against a new REST api to give our customers even more info about a house
making our mobile website a more pleasant experience
rewriting a SQL query to be 100x faster
You'll have both the opportunity and the independence to tackle all kinds of challenges: some days you'll work on refactoring a legacy part of the app to make it do something new, and on others, you'll build a brand new, greenfield feature.
You

You care about both building and maintaining a clean, readable, well tested codebase. We're looking for someone with Ruby experience. We do Ruby, Rails, Postgres, plus JavaScript, CSS and HTML on the front end. We don't require you to know all of those, but you should be comfortable in Ruby, and familiar with Rails. You communicate and collaborate with the whole team, be it to work through tough code problems or clarify product specifications.

About Us
We're a small team focused on opening up the old school real estate world.
Our goal is to build the best place for people to browse, shop for, and buy homes.
We employ an iterative approach to building products and deploy multiple times a day.
We have a big vision.
We believe in hiring smart people and giving them the support and flexibility to succeed.
If you work locally, you'll be in a relaxed and fun office in the Belltown neighborhood.
We're looking to hire the best people wherever they are in the world. If you don't want to relocate to beautiful Seattle, you should be awesome at working from home and available to join our daily standup at 10am Pacific. Some developers live in Seattle and come into the Estately office, but the majority live and work remotely, including several who live outside of the United States. We've had remote developers since 2011, and are seasoned veterans of working with a distributed team, across multiple timezones.

Our Hiring Process

We don't believe in algorithmic interviews under hostile conditions. We'll never ask you to invert a binary tree on a whiteboard or interview you with five interviewers at the same time. We like our recruiting process to be transparent to you. It roughly consists of the following steps:

An initial call between you and a member of our team
We'll tell you more about the work that you'd be doing, and why we think Estately is a great place to work. You'll have the opportunity to ask us lots of questions, too. We'll ask you about your experience and some technical questions, mostly to get a feel for where you're at as we move forward with the process.

Individual Exercise
We have a few practical challenges to assess technical knowledge. Over the course of a few hours, you'll be fixing a bug in our app (that we've previously fixed), so we can see how you approach solving a realistic problem.

Pairing on a Few Potential Features
Finally, during the pairing exercises you'll pair with one of our developers to implement an (existing) feature in the app. This will take a couple hours or so, and will mostly consist of discussion about approach, with some coding in the midst of it.

Diversity

Estately seeks to increase the ratio of women and underrepresented minorities in software engineering and development, we encourage women and people from underrepresented groups to apply for this position.

Estately is striving to be a diverse team, made of and built by people with different backgrounds and lifestyles. We don't discriminate based on race, gender, sexual orientation, marital status, disability, age, religion, color, or any other group.

Please note: At this time we are only able to accept candidates in the United States, Canada, and the UK.

In the present world of application development it's difficult to determine where the front-end stops and the back-end begins. While we don't feel wise enough to define where this point may be, we feel the right candidate will be adventurous enough to focus more on how to provide the strongest and cleanest user experience. We're seeking someone familiar with Rails and JavaScript who is interested in creating beautiful and functional work. Compose will lead you to opportunities to learn and grow, while providing excellent conventions (like our internal framework Megatron) to comfortably work within.

As an Application Developer with Compose, you'll contribute your creative flair to the design, function and user experience of our product. You will be supported be a talented in a self-managing and open organization. We're remote first and have a diverse group of friendly people located all over the world.

Compose has grown into a vibrant work environment where folks can feel comfortable being themselves, living a balanced life. We welcome you to enjoy comfort when taking risks, collaborate with spirited peers, and to unleash your creativity personality. If you love making beautiful and functional things and want to have some fun, we'd love to see what you can cook up for us.

Technical things we hope you're good at (or can become excellent at):

  • Rails and JavaScript: Fluent in Rails/JavaScript. We use a lot of Go within our infrastructure, but this role doesn't require it. An idiomatic and structured approach to your work is appreciated.
  • Utility: You'll run into bugs. A handy stable of useful tools and a keen eye for broken things is essential.
  • API: A pragmatic and thorough understanding of API as a database-like source of data.
  • Testing: Able to write tests and specs for new features and offer insight to improve existing specs.
  • Databases: We provide Databases-as-a-Service; a solid fundamental understanding of good practices and various management systems would be helpful.
Security: Awareness of security vulnerabilities and protection techniques.

We're excited to see what sort of character will wind up in this role... a few helpful traits include:

  • Driven: We're a self-managing organization that gives you the respect, trust and responsibility to operate with minimal oversight.
  • Compassionate: Compose is stuffed with many great hearts, minds, and spirits. We'd love for you to want to collaborate and grow with them.
  • Inventive: You'll need buckets of creativity to help you solve a wide range of (sometimes vague) conundrums.
  • Accepting: Freedom to fail! Things won't always work, but things will always iterate. This is a fun role and should feel that way.

    Think you're a match?

Compose implements blind-hiring! Merit based, objectively graded work samples are the first step. We have worked hard to minimize our own biases as much as possible and find the best possible humans for the team. We respect a fancy education or a list of spectacular previous accomplishments, but nothing is more impressive than the right combination of ingredients - which you can objectively demonstrate.

At any time during the process, we are available to chat (email, video, whatever you like) to ensure you are comfortable with the process and feel that you're being treated fairly and with respect.

We look forward to meeting you!

Please note: At this time we are only able to accept candidates in the United States, Canada, and the UK.

StackShare helps developers discover and compare software tools. We’re building a platform for developer knowledge. From Airbnb to Dropbox, to individual developers and CTOs, StackShare has become the defacto place for companies and engineers to share the software they use and why. But we're just scratching the surface- we believe we have an opportunity to fundamentally change the way that software is built.

As Software Engineer, you will influence every aspect of the product from ideation to execution. Not only will you help shape the product moving forward, but you'll be joining a small founding team so you’ll help to shape the company.

You’re comfortable working on something different every day as priorities shift. You enjoy shipping code and you believe new features should be treated as experiments and measured closely. You build with the following in mind: make it work ➤ make it right ➤ make it fast.

Bonus Points:

  • You’re a StackShare user (include your profile URL in your application).
  • You’re familiar with most of the tools in our stack (http://stackshare.io/stackshare).

DESCRIPTION

Who We Are

Since 2007, Quimbee has helped law students prepare for classes and final exams. Starting at $15 per month, law students get access to a comprehensive database of case summaries, video lessons, practice questions, and a legal dictionary. Over the past nine years and through sheer word of mouth, we have become one of the most widely used and trusted sites for law students, serving both institutional clients, such as American University and University of Illinois, as well as thousands of individual law students.

We’re headquartered in Charlotte, NC, but we’re big believers in remote working. Our team is spread out among Taiwan, Uruguay, and different cities in the U.S. We don’t mind where you work, so long as you’re passionate and hardworking. To stay in touch, we mostly use Google Hangouts and Slack. To stay organized, we use Pivotal Tracker and Basecamp. But overall we think we’re low bureaucracy. We use a lightweight agile process. We have a pretty much horizontal organization so everyone in our team is encouraged to bring new ideas which could drive our business in new or improved ways.

As our site has grown, so has our need for exceptional designers and developers. We have had the privilege of working with some outstanding dev shops in the past, but we’ve moved on to building our own full-time dev team since 2014. We like small teams and we try not to grow the team unless we really feel the need. With our application growing in size, usage, and complexity, we can now see that we’re in dire need of welcoming a new versatile, experienced developer to the team. That’s where you come in.

Who We’re Looking For

You must be a senior developer. Technically we’re mostly interested in your recent Ruby on Rails and general web development experience at all levels of the stack, from Angular (or similar) front end apps, to dealing with search engines, DB query tuning, and everything in between, but we’d expect you to have worked with other languages/frameworks during your career. You’ll join a very small tech team, so your voice will be heard when we need to make new technical decisions as our product grows. We expect you to go beyond coding to give input on the product roadmap, design, and architecture.

These are some of the tasks (beyond “simply” coding new features and fixing bugs) our tech team has been dealing with over the last few years so you can get a big picture of the tasks you’d be involved with:

  • Investigate and mitigate memory bloat (we’ve used coverband, oink, skylight and other tools).
  • Handle a layered fragment caching system via a Russian Doll caching scheme.
  • Write scripts to automate Markdown processing and manipulation (we’ve used Pandoc having to dive a bit in Haskell).
  • Write scripts to import content from Word documents.
  • Constantly add new features without rewriting the app from scratch while maintaining a high level of code maintainability.
  • Use feature toggling techniques to maintain our master branch constantly deployable to production.
  • Maintain a sane set of automatic tests (we use Rspec and Capybara) without being dogmatic about 100% code coverage.
  • Prepare our platform for changing our payments processing backend without stopping our service and maintaining our low level of money related bugs.
  • Keep our Ionic Framework based mobile app updated with new features and make sure that our changes in the backend are compatible with the existing mobile app version.

Our application is currently based on these main technologies:

  • Ruby 2.2.x, Rails 4.2.x, Bootstrap, SASS, Ionic Framework.

Some of our upcoming possible tasks are:

  • We might migrate all our payments and subscriptions related code from Chargify to Stripe. Have any related experience? Let us know!
  • Try a new approach for our mobile app. Some alternatives could be a closer-to-the-web approach, using * Turbolinks and pure server-rendered HTML views similar to how Basecamp does it, or maybe trying out React Native? Do you have better alternatives/suggestions? Speak out!
  • We’re considering migrating some/all of our current Angular based code to React or Elm.
  • We’ll be adding a bunch of different dashboards with stats per user, per group of users, etc. Have any experience extracting this kind of data from a DB and/or using JS graphing libraries? Don’t forget to mention it!
  • We’re rebuilding our search engine, so if you have experience integrating advanced search services into web and mobile apps you have extra points!

    Generally speaking, you should be:

  • A versatile engineer. You know what you don’t know and feel comfortable learning new skills. You’re not ashamed of recognizing mistakes and take measures to avoid falling again.
  • A team player. We working remotely doesn’t mean you’re going to work alone. We share code-ownership as much as possible. You’ll have to fix other people’s code as much as other teammates will be fixing yours.
  • A full-stack developer. You have lots of experience building Rails applications, and you’re also very comfortable writing front-end code (HTML/CSS/JS).
  • A minimalist. You believe a new feature should be built only when the evidence supports it. You’re willing to push back when you believe this rule is being ignored or violated.
  • A great communicator. You communicate your ideas, feedback, and criticism thoroughly, clearly, and courteously. You believe there’s no such thing as over-explaining or over-clarifying because that’s how miscommunication is avoided.

We have been building on an elegant microservice architecture of 17 loosely coupled Rails services (http REST, async queuing etc) for the last 2+ years. It's in production, supporting multiple brands and driving millions of dollars of revenue every month from US sales.

We are looking for 2 experienced and smart developers to join our team and help us deliver more features, faster for our long-term client. Are you an experienced developer looking for a new challenge? Does working in a company that specialises in high performing distributed teams sound exciting?

What do we offer?

  • Work as part of a talented, globally distributed, successful team
  • A focussed adherance to our agile/scrum processes (we really believe it helps getting good work done)
  • Hard problems to solve (you won't find all the answers on Stack Overflow) - and the opportunity to own the solutions
  • A great working atmosphere where you can share and learn with other smart people
  • The best-in-class toolsets: Slack, CI/CD with Docker etc
  • Meetups in our Barcelona offices for our remote folks
  • Competitive rates
  • A long term working relationship: at least a year working on this project, then others.

    You'll be:

  • Working within a fast moving team (working 11am - 8pm Central European time)
  • Solving hard business logic with elegant software design
  • Identifying bottlenecks, using tools to diagnose and refactor code for scale
  • Ensuring the robustness, performance and failure characteristics of the system.
  • Writing well tested (rspec), defect free code with CI/CD
  • Taking ownership of production applications - managing issues, releases and ensuring quality
  • Occasionally going full stack and also building functionality for the SPAs in javascript (experience in node/react/backbone is useful)
  • Good english verbal and written communication skills are essential.

This is a contract position with a long term outlook (12 months+ full time project) for the the right candidate. We are looking for remote workers (most of the company is remote) or have openings based in our Barcelona office.

Why is it good to work with us?

We know that big ideas and big results only happen when you have the right people, working together smartly - whether that’s across the room or across the globe. We make the work fun and rewarding.

Because we work on cool projects. Sure, we can list the latest set of technologies that we use, but that is a given. What's more interesting is how they are used - the design, the architecture, the approach to solving business problems. And we do that across multiple clients - each and every one we're excited to work with.

Because we believe in constant learning and exploring - whether that’s a new skill, a new role, or a new way of seeing. And because we've found that we learn the most when we take on new challenges as a team. We’re proud that people love working with us (and still have lives outside of work).

    What we’re looking for

We’re very new, and despite having a fully functional platform, we’re still in our infancy with our product.  Your job would be two fold - actively working on the existing platform and supporting clients - while also architecting a future-proofed, scalable, micro service-like platform.

We are looking for someone to work full-time.

    You

We’re looking for someone with a strong Ruby on Rails skill set as well as a background with Amazon web services (Lamda), React, Dokku, Codeship, custom integrations (.edi files, APIs) etc.

As mentioned, our business relies on integrating with various clients who all use different gateways, so figuring out the best way to deal with these different environments is critical.
