**DESCRIPTION**

Before you start reading, keep in mind that the aim of this job ad is to give you a feel for what it’s like to work at Catapult. There’s lots of research which suggests people often don’t apply because of so-called “requirements” in a job description. If you’re an experienced engineer, like the sound of working here and see something you’re not an expert in yet, that’s great, apply and you can learn it here!

What you’re getting yourself in for

Our mission is to build the worlds best part time job. We spend our time thinking about how to give a global workforce complete control of their own work life while completely automating the hundreds of thousands of man hours which would normally be required to manage people on this scale.

We do this through React Native based iOS and Android applications, React based web applications, a mixture of Ruby/ Rails and Phoenix/ Elixir on the backend and Rest API’s to communicate with machine learning services from our data science team.

Businesses ranging from the largest high-street retailers to five star hotels and and independent coffee boutiques rely on Catapult as their casual workforce. If you’ve spent time in London, you’ve probably been served by a Catapult waiter or sales assistant without even realising it!

Our company values https://writing.joincatapult.com/our-values/ are really important to us and influence every facet of how we work together.

Things we’ve been working on recently

No two days are ever the same in a startup, but to give you a flavour of what we’ve been up to recently:

Building a stand-alone signup service to test different approaches to user on-boarding. We took this as an opportunity to test out Phoenix + GraphQL. We were so impressed with the productivity boost we’re also now incorporating GraphQL into our primary Rails application
Using Kubernetes to deploy standalone environments for our feature branches, complete with anonymised production data
Re-thinking how we test Javascript and what the line should be between unit tests and acceptance tests
About the role

We’ve been growing rapidly over the last three years and as we start our international roll out, we’re looking for ambitious engineers to help us build the future of work. Our engineering principles https://writing.joincatapult.com/engineering-principles/ give a good feel for how we work together and what we value.

You’ll be working joining out remote team so working from anywhere in Europe is fine! We work in small cross-functional pods of developers who focus on a particular product area and encourage people to rotate across teams.

**REQUIREMENTS**

We've found that the best developers are outliers so these are guidelines rather than firm requirements. If you're passionate about building great software, finding the best tools for the job and learning new skills, we'd like to hear from you!

About You

* Solid experience developing web or mobile applications commercially
* You really buy into the importance of getting things into the hands of a user quickly and then iterating
* You actively think about when to incur technical debt and when to pay it back
* You like to explore new technologies and have a keen eye for when something new can add real business value
* Bonus points for Rails, React, Phoenix or GraphQL

**BENEFITS**

As well as being a part of a well funded startup at one of the most exciting phases of it’s growth, you’ll get:

* Competitive salary + stock options
* A strong approach to professional development and mentorship, everyone has a dedicated L&D budget for books, training, conferences and the like
* Product retreats at least every two months where the whole team either comes to London or goes somewhere warm (the next one's in Lisbon!), looks back on how we can improve and then spends a week together hacking on new ideas and exploring new technologies
* Regular social events & the opportunity to travel to our other offices
* Company Macbook Pro which you’re free to take home
* A flexible work environment focused on output not hours
* 25 days holiday + bank holidays

* Ability to mentor other software engineers and work directly with product managers to deliver solid software solutions.
* Pragmatic: A problem solver with a passion for well-implemented solutions.
* Fast Learner: You're a software engineer who thrives on applying their knowledge and learning new technologies.
* Automated Tests: You have experience writing automated tests in Ruby and Javascript.
* Front-end Development Skills: Our application suite utilizes quite a bit of Javascript.
* Experience with web infrastructure, distributed systems, and/or performance analysis and optimizations.
* We would love for you to show evidence of your work - preferably open-source contributions on Github, or elsewhere on the web.
* Work remotely provided you have 5 hours of overlap with the team in the U.S. Our core hours are 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM PST and 5% travel time required per year to company HQ and events.

Full Stack Ruby On Rails Developer
Remote

Job description
(This position accepts remote candidates, as well as on-site for our Jacksonville office)

Who We Are:

* Helpjuice empowers large and small companies (such as Hertz, US Government, and thousands of others) to deliver instant support

* We're a smaller, yet growing software company, where everyone wears multiple hats. It's a team of excellent people, who are all willing to help each other, because it's the way we work / our culture

* We care about our customers, and are a very transparent company in how we build software (e.g.: our product roadmap is public & customer-driven)

Who We're Looking For:

* You want to learn from a founder who has launched multiple companies and see a job not just as a way to write code and get paid for it, but as a great learning opportunity

* You value a team that works both hard and smart - who are obsessed with helping customers and honing their craft more than anything

* You actually want to love your job, the people you work with and the software you help create, instead of simply tolerating them

* You’re looking for a career, not just another job

* You know, like and agree with most of the views shared by the Basecamp guys

Requirements

* You have 3+ years in Rails, ideally 1+ year in Rails 5

* You've worked with a monolith code base and understand that 'micro-services' are not a solution for every scenario

* You can write beautiful JavaScript code, and prefer instantaneous JavaScript apps. Apps that refresh are in the past

* You're a damn good communicator, and don't make excuses. "It works on my computer" isn't a valid response why our app is down

Are you up for the challenge?
Apply now via the application form. For more information about our organization, visit www.helpjuice.com.

**Plug in Useful make some of the [most popular SaaS web apps for Shopify](http://https://www.pluginuseful.com/collections/apps). With over 100k users we've followed the rapid growth of Shopify and are looking to add a senior engineer to our 100% remote team of six.**

As a Senior Software Engineer you'll have worked with React and Rails before and ideally have used the Flux pattern on a decent-sized web app. You can both architect software, building it from the ground up, and maintain existing systems in a thoughtful way.

Just as important is how you approach problems and work in the team. We don't want someone who puts their headphones on for three days and churns out code. Your instinct is to collaborate.

You'll work closely with our product manager to gather requirements, come up with technical solutions, present these in a clear non-technical way and agree on what to do.

You'll both mentor and learn from our software engineer through code reviews and working on problems together. And you'll help our QA tester to understand changes, how best to test them and be responsive in fixing bugs.

We're 100% remote across different timezones so clear, regular communication is key. Your location isn't important as long as there's a roughly 4 hour overlap with Eastern Time and European Time.

You're experienced in working remotely and have found a schedule and setup that works best for you. If that's a coworking space we can pay for that, but that's optional since you decide where you're at your most productive.

### Skills & Experience
* 1+ years React or similar frontend frameworks
* 3+ years Rails
* 5+ years software engineering
* Have worked on web apps, ideally B2B SaaS
* Software architecture
* Have used a few different software patterns
* Very collaborative
* Clear non-technical communicator
* Have worked remotely
* Curious about new technologies
* Ideally have worked with Kanban

Full time, 100% remote from any location with a 4 hour overlap with Eastern Time and European Time. We believe strongly in work/life balance with reasonable hours (usually 37.5 hours or occasionally more when required) and paid time off.

Requirements

Apply by sending your CV and a brief email intro to jobs@pluginuseful.com. We love it when you mention something from the job description.

**Area is modernising the user experience of buying and renting a home. We’re a platform for estate agents and their customers that makes it easier and faster to get things done. Area is an early stage, fully-remote and revenue-generating startup (based out of London). The team you’ll work with were the engineering and product VPs at Yoyo Wallet who laid the groundwork for it to become Europe’s fastest growing mobile wallet.**

Area’s clients include some of the best-performing estate agents in the UK and over 10,000 customers interact with Area’s software each month (and may not even know it). If the words “estate agent” put you off, they shouldn’t! Our clients love us because we’re industry outsiders and we challenge the status quo. Most of the problems and challenges we're solving are no different than those at other early-stage startups.

**The Role:**

We are looking for a remote software engineer with experience building commercially-deployed Rails applications to join us as we scale-up our infrastructure, engineering team and product. This is very much a get your hands dirty start-up role rather than a clock in-and-out role. As it’s remote, there is lots of flexibility around your working schedule, but we’re all about getting things done, so you’ll need to pull your weight. With that said, we value working smarter instead of harder and finding balance.

**Must Haves:**

* Extensive and current understanding of Ruby on Rails
* Good track record of working on commercial-deployed projects
* Experience building and deploying AWS-based environments
* Fluent English speaker (with above-average writing skills)
* Driven to create structured and well-tested code
* Self motivated and able to manage your own workload

**Nice To Haves:**

* Experience working in partially- or fully-remote teams
* Experience with Angular, React or Backbone
* Experience with iOS and/or Android development
* Interest in or experience in UX, UI and product development

**The Benefits:**

* Work from wherever you want (fully remote role)\*
* Monthly remote working budget (e.g. coworking space rent)
* Yearly skills development budget (e.g. courses or books)
* MacbookPro and accessories you need to do your job
* £45k - £75k\*\* per year depending on your skill set and experience
* Private pension contributions (subject to UK residency)
* Flexible holiday allowance and personal days as required

\* You may need to adjust your working schedule to have a minimum of 2-4 hours overlap with other team members.

\*\* Or negotiated equivalent contractor rate if you do not have/are not able to get a UK NI number.

**The Process:**

1. Please tell us about your experience and why you’re interested.
1. Initial call with the CEO to learn more about each other
1. Second call with the CTO to learn more about each other
1. Short pair-programming session to see how you work in action
1. If it's a good fit, we’ll make you an official offer in writing
1. If you accept, we’ll meet up in person for on-boarding\*\*\*

\*\*\* Either we’ll fly to you, you fly to us or we meet somewhere in between. Of course reasonable travel expenses would be covered.

Requirements

Please write to us at join@usearea.com and ensure you tell us about your experience, linking to anything relevant we should look at and why you would be interested in join us.

Apply

Estately makes it easier to find and buy a home online and we need your help.

What you'll do:

You'll collaborate to build, maintain, and streamline our large application, working with Ruby, Rails, Postgres, and more. Some examples of the work you'll be doing include the following:

* Working closely with product and design to define and implement new features
* Continually improving our fetching code, which grabs data on millions of properties throughout each day
* Integrating various APIs to give our customers even more info about homes
* Making our website a more delightful experience

You'll have both the opportunity and the independence to tackle all kinds of challenges: some days you'll work on refactoring a legacy part of the app to make it do something new, and on others, you'll build a brand new, greenfield feature.

You

* You have experience architecting, building, and maintaining reliable web applications that serve hundreds of requests per second.
* You care about maintaining a clean, readable, well tested codebase.
* We work extensively with Ruby, Rails, Postgres, React, and Sass. You have experience with most of these technologies, and are eager to learn new ones.
* You communicate well and collaborate with the whole team, be it to clarify product specifications or work through tough code problems.
* You enjoy mentoring fellow team members in areas where you have expertise – and graciously accept mentorship in areas where you have an opportunity to grow.

About Us:

* We're a small team focused on opening up the old school real estate world.
* Our goal is to build the best place for people to browse, shop for, and buy homes.
* We employ an iterative approach to building products and deploy multiple times a day.
* We have a big vision.
* We believe in hiring smart people and giving them the support and flexibility to succeed.

If you work locally, you'll be in a relaxed and fun office in the Belltown neighborhood.
We're looking to hire the best people wherever they are in the world. If you don't want to relocate to beautiful Seattle, you should be awesome at working from home and available to join our daily standup at 9:30am Pacific Time. Some developers live in Seattle and come into the Estately office, while others live and work remotely, including from outside of the United States. We've had remote developers since 2011, and are seasoned veterans of working with a distributed team, across multiple time zones.

Our Hiring Process

We believe in collaborative interviews where we work with you to solve realistic problems. We interview for practical skills in a one-on-one setting, and strive to use your preferred editor and tools whenever possible. Great candidates don’t usually write code on white boards, or implement basic data structures from scratch, so we won’t ask you to do that. We want our recruiting process to be transparent to you. It roughly consists of the following steps:

An initial call between you and a member of our team

We'll tell you more about the work that you'd be doing, and why we think Estately is a great place to work. You'll have the opportunity to ask us lots of questions, too. We'll ask you about your experience and some technical questions, mostly to get a feel for where you're at as we move forward with the process.

     Individual Exercise

We have a few practical challenges to assess technical knowledge. Over the course of a few hours, you'll be fixing a bug in our app (that we've previously fixed), so we can see how you approach solving a realistic problem.

Pairing on a Few Potential Features

During the pairing exercises you'll pair with one of our developers to implement an (existing) feature in the app. This will take a couple hours or so, and will mostly consist of discussion about approach, with some coding in the midst of it.

Discussion with representatives from our Product and Design teams

As a small team, all of our developers work very closely with product and design. These short sessions will give you a chance to meet and speak with the product and design folks that you would be working with on a regular basis.

Diversity

Estately seeks to increase the ratio of women and underrepresented minorities in software engineering and development, we encourage women and people from underrepresented groups to apply for this position.

Estately is striving to be a diverse team, made of and built by people with different backgrounds and lifestyles. We don't discriminate based on race, gender, sexual orientation, marital status, disability, age, religion, color, or any other group.

Job description

We’re a year-old startup that’s initially grown with a licensed tech solution that includes customer and admin mobile/web apps. We now need to incrementally build out our own stack and therefore need an experienced, hands on dev to kick start and grow our tech team.

You’ll be working directly with the CEO (me) and the growth team to plan and incrementally build out our tech stack. I’ve built out software and data-science teams, am a Rails dev/geek and (I hope) not a dick so we should get along well.

We’ll work on delivering value quickly without skipping on important stuff like good test coverage, thoughtfully refactored code and a CI suite. My plan is to quickly grow the tech team as we prove value to the board. You’ll have the opportunity to grow into a management position (although the CTO will probably need to be Sydney based) or just keep your head down cutting code.

Skills

* Experience professionally developing software in Rails

* In a senior role at a startup

* Working fullstack

* An understanding and appreciation of

* User-friendly software

* Delivering value (customer, business)

* Experience integrating with other tech: CRMs, ERPs etc

* A range of front-end technologies

* The foundations: various DBs, DevOps, TDD, Queuing, REST APIs etc etc

* The ability to think architecturally: build or SaaS, monolith or services, when to spike vs when to ensure quality

* Open-source experience and an understanding of growth marketing a plus.

Remote & flexible

We’re based in Sydney but the team’s scattered around Au and NZ so we constantly interact with each other remotely. The hours are flexible. It doesn’t matter if you work best first thing in the morning after some tai-chi or at 3am after 5 Red Bulls - as long as you put out quality work.

Keen?

Shoot me a response with your experience and why you think you’re right for the job. It doesn’t need to be War and Peace - your experience should speak for itself.

Helpjuice is a SaaS product with large Enterprise customers such as Hertz, US Government, Nginx and others. We help many companies with their help center / knowledge base via our product: Helpjuice.com
We're a smaller, yet growing software company, where everyone wears multiple hats. It's a team of excellent people, who are all willing to help each other, because it's the way we work / our culture.
We're currently seeking a Senior Rails developer, with great English, and even better Rails skills. You should be really good with English -- almost excellent! :-)
Here's what we're looking for:
- Great English. Seriously, don't waste your time if your English isn't good enough to write/read/talk with it daily, with all of our team.
- Really good in Rails (backend) + Javascript (Frontend). Rails alone won't get you much, and you know that -- thats why you need JS to build high performance fast web apps in 2018..
- Cool person. We'll be working a lot together, we want you to enjoy it, just like we do!
Here's what we offer:
- Well paid salary. We don't monkey around, we pay well if we think you're great.
- Smart team. Expect to learn...a LOT. Not just in development, but in other areas aswell, as you'll be working w/ other team mates (support, sales, product management)
- Interesting product to work on. Imagine a product that thousands of businesses rely on, and that's entirely bootstrapped -- Yes, you'll for sure learn a lot, and have fun...and be a bit stressed at times :-)
- Flexible hours/management. I'm the CEO - and I'm writing this job post. I'm very hands off with my team, because we have a great team -- everyone is great, which is why I can just rely on them to do their job and NOT micromanage. TLDR; It's a fun work environment :-)
How To Apply?
Fill out ALL the questions in our application form -- if you don't want to share code samples, we totally get it, but we believe no good developer has 0 public repos on their Github (you may argue with us, but this is our policy).

Based in Toronto, Format.com is the leading online portfolio platform for professional visual artists around the world to exhibit, market and sell their work. We are a proudly self funded business with tens of thousands of customers across every country worldwide.

You’ll be working on our Product team working on new product features as well as iteration and maintenance on existing features. Typically this entails taking high fidelity designs and technical requirements, working with the stakeholders to decide on solutions, and then working with your team to implement, test, and ship. You should have a keen attention to detail and the ability to understand and make trade-offs at multiple levels of abstraction.

You’re enthusiastic, have high standards and a keen attention to detail, and you instinctively take ownership of your work. You’re excited at the idea of writing software that will be simple, easy to grok, but also performant and scalable when appropriate.

Every member of our team is expected to ship top-notch work and take complete ownership of their responsibilities. In return, this is an incredible opportunity to get down into the trenches of a growing business and product, work with cutting-edge technologies, be immersed in a seriously awesome company culture, and solve challenging problems daily.

Role Responsibilities:

* Building and shipping: You love the satisfaction that comes from building software that strikes the perfect balance between simplicity, flexibility, and functionality. You leverage your knowledge, experience, and toolset to maximize your productivity, and you pride yourself on shipping high-quality software every day.

* Consulting and estimating: You deeply understand the unique use cases and challenges of building modern web applications. You’re adept at investigating and understanding your team’s requirements, flagging potential issues, and proposing creative solutions. You realize software estimation is a hard problem, but you’re well-versed in estimation approaches and you care deeply about delivering on your commitments.

* Managing requirements, dependencies, and scheduling: You have no problem balancing development commitments for multiple stakeholders, and you’re comfortable managing your own priorities and schedule.

* Fixing and improving: You’re passionate about continuously improving processes, systems, and codebases, and you’re vigilant about keeping a high bar of quality. When you see a problem, you want to fix it, and you’re skilled at uncovering the root causes of  problems.

* Communicating: You’re a skilled and fearless communicator -- clear, direct, and to the point, no matter whom you’re communicating with. You recognize that quality of  communication is what makes the difference between a good developer and a great one. Whether written or spoken, your colleagues value your ability to distill information into accurate and unambiguous language.

What we’d like to see in our ideal candidate:

* You have 3+ years experience building complex web applications with modern technology

* You have deep experience with the Ruby on Rails framework and ecosystem including RSpec, Bundler, Sprockets, JavaScript and ES6, Haml, and CSS/SCSS

* You would be perfectly comfortable modifying an existing JavaScript library or writing a custom Ruby gem and bundling it into your own project

* You’re very comfortable with git and understand commits, revisions, merging, and conflict resolution

* You enjoy the idea of deploying your own code on your first day of work and being responsible for what happens

* You’re excited by the prospect of teaching yourself new technologies as needed

* You are passionate about user experience, whether that means multiple iterations to deliver a simple yet powerful UI, or an API that a developer of any skill level could understand and consume

* You can accurately set and meet deadlines

* You are obsessive about reducing operational overhead whenever and wherever possible

* You can make informed technology and implementation decisions and justify them

* You understand the concept of React + Redux and you’re comfortable writing and modifying components

* You’re familiar with Lua

Introduction

We are currently going through a very exciting evolution of our platform. We are moving from a traditional RoR architecture to a modern "single page application", exposing our application as a set of API's consumed by Ember to provide a rich interactive experience.

To date we have migrated our customer facing application to an Ember app, with great success. We are currently working on rebuilding the backend of our platform with the present focus been on our "Point of Sale". We are now looking to add to our team to accelerate the creation and rollout of this change across the remainder of our platform. This covers the CRM, reporting/analytics and configurations aspects of our backend.

To do this we are looking to hire new people to join our team. This person should be able to contribute across the entire development stack. However, we are looking for the new hire to have strong experience in building and rolling out SPAs. Ideally, with experience using Ember to do this.

About Ticketsolve

Ticketsolve is a web based online and box-office ticketing platform. We currently have over 220 clients based throughout UK and Ireland. These clients are a mixture of Theatres, Arts and Music Festivals and specialty offerings such as Ice Skating and Christmas attractions. We are a consistently profitable company with healthy year on year growth. The new features and abilities we are adding to Ticketsolve puts in a place to deliver strong growth in the coming years.

Skills & Requirements

- 3+ years experience developing web applications
- Experience with programming Javascript preferred with role focused on Ember based development. Ruby a huge bonus but good programmers always welcomed as well
- Strong understanding of front-end technologies: JavaScript, HTML5, SASS, Ember preferred
- Strong programming skills with focus on clean design, well refactored code and automated testing
- Comfortable working as part of a remote team
- Related to remote working a working knowledge of English is required

Technologies we use

- Ruby on Rails is our primary server framework evolving towards pure API server
- Ember is our primary front end development framework
- JSONAPI::Resources, http://jsonapi-resources.com/, is how we are building our API’s
- MySQL / Redis / Elastic are our primary storage engines
- All our servers are Ubuntu based managed through CHEF
- Deployed on AWS using terraform for managing infrastructure
- GitHub for source code management and process support
- Travis for continuous integration

How we work

We run a lightweight process that focuses on feature based delivery on a weekly basis. Our co-ordination and communication is largely through daily 'catch-up meetings' and use of appropriate tools such as Trello for backlog management, Slack for communication and Git(GitHub) for source control and feature deployment through PR's and Milestones.

From a coding perspective we place a strong emphasis on clean, minimal, well refactored code backed up by strong suite of automated tests. We make use of peer review for all design and development work.

In general we strive for an approach that empowers and trusts individuals to 'do the right thing' and as a team we try and keep each other true to this.

Remote working

Our development team works as a remote team with members in Berlin, Malmö, Barcelona, Singapore and Taiwan. Our wider organisation has people based in United Kingdom and Dublin. Dublin is our headquarters and only office space - with core Support team and Sales and Marketing team.

Remote working has become part of our company DNA. We believe that it offers a lot of advantages to both Ticketsolve and employees. We expect that our new hires will likely be remote working. This means that you should be comfortable working as part of a remote team. If this is new to you, don't worry, it was for us at the beginning as well. We now have lots of experience helping people settle in - so keep an open mind and imagine a working day with no daily commute.

Important to note that timezones are a consideration for us with remote working. Our experience is that European and Asian time zones are preferable, as it allows for collaboration at reasonable times.

How do you apply?

We are initially looking for resumes and portfolio examples of your work e.g. GitHub repositories, blog articles, etc. If you do not have anything suitable we can provide a problem piece to work together on.

From there we filter down and do a series of remote interviews. These are often 'work' focused i.e. looking at code together, pair programming for example. Our preference is for candidates to talk to as much of the team as possible so that we, team and candidate, can make the best decision possible. If appropriate and makes sense we will also look at facilitating face to face meetings as well.

After this stage we will be in a position to make a formal offer.

Are you prepared to take charge of maturing and expanding an entire web platform? We're looking for an excellent Ruby developer to build out Baymard's custom-built Rails-based web platform.

**The Job**
In this position, you will have a lot of influence on the technical direction of the company since all Baymard employees are e-commerce UX researchers except one (Jamie, co-founder of the business, and the person you’ll be working most closely together with). It’s an opportunity to help envision and build the technical platform of a research company that, while it works with tech, isn't yet another app or web service. (Because of this we’re also more than happy to open-source our internal code and scripts because we don't make our money from code.)

**Requirements**
\- We're looking for someone with strong programming skills since we want you to take charge / ownership of our tech platform.
\- Since all of our current infrastructure is written in Ruby, it's a major plus if that's your choice of language too.
\- Familiarity with JavaScript and CSS are a bonus, but not required.

_Note: you must be fluent in English, comfortable working remotely via digital platforms and willing to do a few yearly travels for team meetups (expect 2-4 weeks of travel each year)._

**Are We A Good Fit?**
If you’re looking for a chance to work on long-term goals rather than chasing monthly user growth targets, this will be a good match. We’re a business that has been profitable from day one and we really don’t care about temporarily spiking our user metrics in order to flip the company or impress VC investors. We’re much more interested in steady and sustainable improvements to our business – continually increasing the value we deliver to our customers (from which sustained increases in profitability organically follow). Since all of Baymard’s research is delivered through its website, your work will have an immediate and tangible impact on the company.

We want to work with the smartest and most dedicated people around the world, and all of our positions are therefore open to full-time remote work. In other words, you are welcome to work with us from any location you prefer (which many of our employees do). If you want to, you’re of course also welcome to work in our Copenhagen-based office.

**About Baymard**
Baymard Institute is a small independent web usability research organization, specialized in conducting large-scale generic usability studies of e-commerce sites. These studies are published as industry reports and benchmark databases at baymard.com (this site is a big part of the web platform you’ll be working on) – which is being used by thousands of web professionals, all the way from the independent freelance web designer to the UX Director of a Fortune 500 company.

You'll be working with a team of dedicated usability researchers conducting cutting-edge e-commerce research used by UX teams at some of the biggest brands in the world (clients include Nike, Lenovo, Etsy, etc.)?

**Apply**
If you’re interested in this position, please send the following to jamie+job@baymard.com (listed in order of importance):

\- Samples of back-end code you’ve written.
\- Samples of front-end code you’ve written (optional).
\- Other information you find relevant (hobbies, interests, work experience, CV, ..).

_Note: All applications and materials are kept strictly confidential. That said, open-source contributions are perfectly fine as code samples too – just send along / point us towards whatever “work” you feel best represents your skills._

### Who we are

Boords is a bootstrapped, self-funded SaaS company on a mission to make storyboarding simple. We've been running for just under 2 years and in that time have gone from an idea on the back of a napkin to a profitable, fast growing company. Boords is a web-based storyboarding tool, which makes it easy to add, remove, reorder and replace content to make the perfect storyboard quickly and easily. We’ve been keeping storyboarding simple since 2015.

We’re a small team who share an office in Old Street with our sister company Animade (award winning animation studio), so you’ll be working with a tight-knit group and have the opportunity to make a real impact.

### What's the job?

We're looking for a Full Stack Developer with experience using ReactJS and Rails to help us take Boords to the next level. We place emphasis on high quality code, great design and a great company culture. From a technical perspective, Boords is a Rails application with a ReactJS frontend, and a couple of Golang microservices thrown in for good measure.

Both of our founders are from a design & technical background, and we're fully committed to making something great over the long term.

### Requirements

Initially we are looking for someone to join us on a 3-month contract, with a view to extending to full time if we find the right fit. You should have solid experience working on production applications using ReactJS and Rails, and believe in writing well formatted, testable code.

Being a remote role, great written and verbal communication skills are particularly important. Initiative, self-motivation and good time management skills are also a must.

### Benefits

We understand that developers are in high demand - there's a lot of jobs out there for people who can write great code. However a lot of those jobs are at larger companies where you'll spend your time sitting in meetings, working on archaic code or otherwise not getting your ideas heard. We believe working at Boords offers the opportunity to make a real impact on a growing product in within a great company culture.

Working with use, you can expect:

- Great work/life balance
- Pension scheme
- Profit share scheme
- All you can drink Nespresso
- Foosball table
- Team away days and trips. Last year we hired a villa in Tuscany!
- Monthly team building activities organised by our ‘culture captains’
- Incredible team spirit
- Boords hoodie 🙂

Salary will depend on experience. If you want to work in a small, passionate team pushing code into production several times a week, get in touch.

What you'll do

You'll collaborate to build, maintain and streamline our large application, working with Ruby, Rails, Postgres and more. Some examples of the work you'll be doing include the following:

continually improving our fetching code, which grabs information about millions of properties throughout each day
integrating against a new REST api to give our customers even more info about a house
making our mobile website a more pleasant experience
rewriting a SQL query to be 100x faster
You'll have both the opportunity and the independence to tackle all kinds of challenges: some days you'll work on refactoring a legacy part of the app to make it do something new, and on others, you'll build a brand new, greenfield feature.
You

You care about both building and maintaining a clean, readable, well tested codebase. We're looking for someone with Ruby experience. We do Ruby, Rails, Postgres, plus JavaScript, CSS and HTML on the front end. We don't require you to know all of those, but you should be comfortable in Ruby, and familiar with Rails. You communicate and collaborate with the whole team, be it to work through tough code problems or clarify product specifications.

About Us
We're a small team focused on opening up the old school real estate world.
Our goal is to build the best place for people to browse, shop for, and buy homes.
We employ an iterative approach to building products and deploy multiple times a day.
We have a big vision.
We believe in hiring smart people and giving them the support and flexibility to succeed.
If you work locally, you'll be in a relaxed and fun office in the Belltown neighborhood.
We're looking to hire the best people wherever they are in the world. If you don't want to relocate to beautiful Seattle, you should be awesome at working from home and available to join our daily standup at 10am Pacific. Some developers live in Seattle and come into the Estately office, but the majority live and work remotely, including several who live outside of the United States. We've had remote developers since 2011, and are seasoned veterans of working with a distributed team, across multiple timezones.

Our Hiring Process

We don't believe in algorithmic interviews under hostile conditions. We'll never ask you to invert a binary tree on a whiteboard or interview you with five interviewers at the same time. We like our recruiting process to be transparent to you.

Finally, during the pairing exercises you'll pair with one of our developers to implement an (existing) feature in the app. This will take a couple hours or so, and will mostly consist of discussion about approach, with some coding in the midst of it.

**Please note: At this time we are only able to accept candidates in the United States, Canada, and the UK.**

In the present world of application development it's difficult to determine where the front-end stops and the back-end begins. While we don't feel wise enough to define where this point may be, we feel the right candidate will be adventurous enough to focus more on how to provide the strongest and cleanest user experience. We're seeking someone familiar with Rails and JavaScript who is interested in creating beautiful and functional work. Compose will lead you to opportunities to learn and grow, while providing excellent conventions (like our internal framework Megatron) to comfortably work within.

As an Application Developer with Compose, you'll contribute your creative flair to the design, function and user experience of our product. You will be supported be a talented in a self-managing and open organization. We're remote first and have a diverse group of friendly people located all over the world.

Compose has grown into a vibrant work environment where folks can feel comfortable being themselves, living a balanced life. We welcome you to enjoy comfort when taking risks, collaborate with spirited peers, and to unleash your creativity personality. If you love making beautiful and functional things and want to have some fun, we'd love to see what you can cook up for us.

Technical things we hope you're good at (or can become excellent at):

* Rails and JavaScript: Fluent in Rails/JavaScript. We use a lot of Go within our infrastructure, but this role doesn't require it. An idiomatic and structured approach to your work is appreciated.
* Utility: You'll run into bugs. A handy stable of useful tools and a keen eye for broken things is essential.
* API: A pragmatic and thorough understanding of API as a database-like source of data.
* Testing: Able to write tests and specs for new features and offer insight to improve existing specs.
* Databases: We provide Databases-as-a-Service; a solid fundamental understanding of good practices and various management systems would be helpful.
Security: Awareness of security vulnerabilities and protection techniques.

We're excited to see what sort of character will wind up in this role... a few helpful traits include:

* Driven: We're a self-managing organization that gives you the respect, trust and responsibility to operate with minimal oversight.
* Compassionate: Compose is stuffed with many great hearts, minds, and spirits. We'd love for you to want to collaborate and grow with them.
* Inventive: You'll need buckets of creativity to help you solve a wide range of (sometimes vague) conundrums.
* Accepting: Freedom to fail! Things won't always work, but things will always iterate. This is a fun role and should feel that way.

Think you're a match?

Compose implements blind-hiring! Merit based, objectively graded work samples are the first step. We have worked hard to minimize our own biases as much as possible and find the best possible humans for the team. We respect a fancy education or a list of spectacular previous accomplishments, but nothing is more impressive than the right combination of ingredients - which you can objectively demonstrate.

At any time during the process, we are available to chat (email, video, whatever you like) to ensure you are comfortable with the process and feel that you're being treated fairly and with respect.

We look forward to meeting you!

**Please note: At this time we are only able to accept candidates in the United States, Canada, and the UK.**

StackShare helps developers discover and compare software tools. We’re building a platform for developer knowledge. From Airbnb to Dropbox, to individual developers and CTOs, StackShare has become the defacto place for companies and engineers to share the software they use and why. But we're just scratching the surface- we believe we have an opportunity to fundamentally change the way that software is built.

As Software Engineer, you will influence every aspect of the product from ideation to execution. Not only will you help shape the product moving forward, but you'll be joining a small founding team so you’ll help to shape the company.

You have experience building web applications with at least one year of experience using Ruby in a production environment. You have experience building APIs (and consuming them). You hate bureaucracies and want to work at an early stage company that has few processes. You’re comfortable taking the initiative and building things in a way that makes sense to you.

You’re comfortable working on something different every day as priorities shift. You enjoy shipping code and you believe new features should be treated as experiments and measured closely. You build with the following in mind: make it work ➤ make it right ➤ make it fast.

Bonus Points:

- You’re a StackShare user (include your profile URL in your application).
- You’re familiar with most of the tools in our stack (http://stackshare.io/stackshare).
- You’re a tools geek; you sign up for new tools and services just to kick the tires and satisfy your curiosity.

In short, Security Roots helps make the Internet safer. We work with IT security professionals and ethical hackers to help them find security holes and vulnerabilities in systems before the bad guys do.

There is a lot of creativity and innovation involved in findings those holes. Unfortunately, it’s not all fun and games, in order for their “findings” to be useful, they need to document their results, track progress, notify stakeholders, review mitigations implemented, verify, re-test, etc. There is a lot of overhead involved in the process.

Surprising no one, IT Security experts like the fun and games but don’t like the overhead/ back-office stuff. That’s where we come in, we exist to make the life of IT Security professionals easier, better, more enjoyable by making all of these overhead tasks easier and more painless.

We make the world's most powerful ergonomic keyboard, the ErgoDox EZ. You will be helping us vastly improve our [configurator](https://configure.ergodox-ez.com), a Rails 5/React 16 app.
You will be introducing sane state management, re-architecting the data models, upping test coverage, as well as introducing some great new features once all of this tech debt has been dealt with. You're not a rockstar, nor a ninja. Hopefully you're simply a nice human being who wants to make solid software together.

We're a tiny company. You'd be working with me (Erez Zukerman, the CEO, who's also a Rails/React dev). We'd be using simple, low-ceremony tools like Trello, daily standups, and some lightweight scrum (nothing crazy).

As part of the job, you will of course be getting one of our keyboards, fully specced out to your liking. Actually, bonus points if you already happen to have one. ;)

So the laundry list:

- A mastery of React
- Great frontend skills (CSSNext FTW)
- Jest is our testing framework of choice
- Bonus points if you know some Capybara
- A liking of MobX (I do prefer it over Redux and have experience in both)
- A liking of Rails (you don't have to be a Rails rockstar though)
- Pay: $60k/yr initially, then we can ramp up based on performance and reach $90-100k.

I've been working remotely for 17 years now, so I get the culture. This is not about the hours -- it's about producing some great work together and making a sizable dent in the universe of mechanical keyboards.

How do you apply?

Don't send me a boring CV, please. Send me a great email answering the following:

- What are the first three features you'd add to the configurator, and why
- Why do you prefer mobX over Redux (or, why am I wrong to prefer it)
- What is the thing you like _least_ about agile?
- Some examples of your work

Not all emails will get a reply -- my apologies in advance for that. On the plus side, I (Erez) will personally be reading your email, not some recruiter or an AI bot trying to filter you out. :)

We're looking to hire the best people wherever they are in the world. If you don't want to relocate to beautiful Seattle, you should be awesome at working from home and available to join our daily stand-up at 9:30am Pacific Time.

Great candidates don't usually write code on white boards, or implement basic data structures from scratch, so we won't ask you to do that.

We’re growing and looking for a Full Stack Rails Developer to join our passionate and talented team. We’re specifically looking for someone to join our remote team working in the Central European timezone, and who is fluent in both Polish and English.

You’ll be part of our 15 member development team working to:

* Plan, implement, test, and ship new features

* Architect and deploy new infrastructure

* Investigate performance issues and execute improvements

* Analyze technology proposals and advise

* Hunt down bugs and fix root causes

* Support the efforts of our design, front-end, support, and marketing teams

You’re enthusiastic, have high standards and a keen attention to detail, and you instinctively take ownership of your work. You’re excited at the idea of writing software that will be simple, easy to grok, but also performant and scalable when appropriate. Some examples of recently launched development projects:

* Supporting our Front-End Developers as they transition existing interfaces to React+Redux

* Implementing client proofing pages for users to service their clients

* Launching v2 of our JSON API to support our Lightroom plugin and Theme development platforms

* Integrating Webtype fonts to allow users to use them on their portfolios

* Transitioning our platform to enforce SSL for all requests

Every member of our team is expected to ship top-notch work and take complete ownership of their responsibilities. In return, this is an incredible opportunity to get down into the trenches of a growing business and product, work with cutting-edge technologies, be immersed in a seriously awesome company culture, and solve challenging problems daily.

Qualifications:

* You have 3+ years experience building complex web applications.

* You are proficient in Ruby, Rails, RSpec, JavaScript/CoffeeScript/ES6, CSS/SCSS, HTML, MySQL.

* You would be perfectly comfortable modifying a jQuery library or writing a custom Ruby gem and bundling it into your own project.

* You are very comfortable with Git and GitHub.

* You enjoy the idea of deploying your own code on your first day of work and being responsible for what happens.

* You are passionate about user experience, whether that means multiple iterations to deliver a simple yet powerful UI, or an API which even the most novice developer could master.

* You are obsessive about reducing operational overhead whenever and wherever possible.

* You can make informed technology and implementation decisions and justify them.

* You can accurately set and meet deadlines.

Bonus Points if:

* You have a deep understanding of Git.

* You’re comfortable writing and modifying React/Redux.

* You’re familiar with Lua.

* You enjoy debating with others to advocate for what you think is best.

* You enjoy tinkering with new and interesting technologies for evaluation.

As this is a remote position, we're looking for someone well-suited to remote work. You should:

* Be willing to come visit us in Toronto once in awhile (travel paid by us, of course).

* Be comfortable with a workday that overlaps at least a few hours daily with our timezone (EST).

* Be comfortable working independently and able to set your own priorities.

* Have a propensity towards action. You don't like waiting for someone to wake up on the other side of the world and you'll figure out how to move forward on your own

* Be a great written communicator. Most of your interaction with the rest of the company will be over Slack, e-mail, and other messages.

* We use Mac computers. You should have your own Mac computer or be willing to purchase one and we are happy to help you do so if need be.

It was late, but I was clearing the last few remaining emails in our support inbox when I noticed something. It started slow -- just one notification at first. Then two, three.. Before long, there were dozens. Our error reporting tool was connected to Slack, and these notifications meant something was wrong. Seriously wrong.

I stopped the email reply I was typing mid-sentence and switched over to Slack. I had a look at the growing error log, now over two scrollbar lengths deep, and pinged my CTO. He was already on it. It wasn’t long before we figured out what the problem was: our bank connection was down.

Several frantic phone calls and meetings later, we found out why: the bank’s executive team had met and decided they no longer wanted to do business with us. Not only did this violate the agreement we’d signed just a few weeks prior, we received zero prior notice. Now our phones were ringing off the hook with disappointed startup founders who could no longer process card payments through their online stores.

Three years later, and I still remember this scenario like it was yesterday. Today, I’m the CEO of Verify. Our mission is to usher in the decentralized financial future; a future where banks don’t decide who can and can’t participate in the economy. Our long-term plan to achieve this vision starts off with a native value transfer solution called Verify Payments.

About Verify Payments

Verify Payments is an API-based solution that enables instant, low cost bank transfers anywhere in the world. We’re a small team that moves fast, with an ambitious plan to offer efficient real-time transfer of value, both locally and internationally. We operate 100% remotely.

About the role

Things we’re looking for:

* You love to learn

* You can’t resist a good challenge

* You get results

Give us examples of situations you’ve been through that demonstrate these 3 things. While we don’t require a fixed number of years of experience, we care about your track record.

When applying, remember:

* Show, don’t tell. Action speaks louder than words -- and we want to see what you’ve built. Share your Github, demo links and live applications.

* Demonstrate results. Tell us about what you’ve done, not what you’d do.

We haven't said much about how we work because you're going to be the first full-time technical hire at the company. You'll be shaping the processes that future hires will follow.

Who We Are

HLT was sparked by paper flashcards that Alec Whitters, Co-Founder and CEO, and his peers were using to study for their dental boards. Wouldn’t it make better sense, he thought, to use their smartphones to study? When he didn’t find an effective mobile-learning solution, he decided to create it. HLT was born. Since its start in 2012, HLT has attracted millions of learners and become the market-leading platform for mLearning applications.

What You Will Be Doing

You will be part of our Rails and API team that is responsible for building and maintaining our API that drives our mobile applications, as well as working to help us expand our rapidly growing web-app.

Who We Are Looking For

We are looking to work with the best. Our peer. Someone who learns from us as much as we learn from them. We are looking for someone bright with a proven track record in developing software for high quality, scalable applications. Someone we'll be proud to say is part of our family and who will play a large role in pushing HLT forward.

We’re not going to list 100 technologies you need to know to join our team. Through our hiring process we’ve determined that there are really only a few must-haves to pass the bar:

* You understand Computer Science fundamentals such as data structures/algorithms

* You have a passion for continuous learning and improvement

* You are a seasoned Rubyist and have a solid knowledge of Rails

Other things that are helpful to know are Postgres, Heroku, modern JS and CSS frameworks.

How We Work

While our offices are in Coralville, Iowa, our developers work wherever they want. We just need you to be online and available via Slack during regular business hours. We're a team and we work as a team, so even if your preferred hours are the wee hours of morning, that doesn't work for us because we need a team player, not a lone wolf.

What We Pay

This is a full time position and everyone who works for us gets paid pretty darn well. In addition to medical, dental and vision insurance, we also offer 8 holidays + 3 floating paid holidays. We have always maintained a "take what you need but don't screw it up for others" stance on vacation and sick leave.

How To Apply

So if you are interested in working for a great company alongside a bunch of really talented developers, building cool software with the best tools, all from the comfort of your own home then please send us:

* Your github username

* A short description of something really cool you've worked on - code or tech-related, and preferably as your own project rather than something as part of an existing job. Perhaps a Ruby gem, or a mobile app. Or a fun game you built. Something!

That it's. You can send us your resume too, but those things read like fiction anyway, so we're more interested in seeing the work you've done and projects that you've contributed to.
